A happy ending for Sasuke is literally not even POSSIBLE for basically ALL of Naruto like it's not even funny. He really never even had a CHANCE he has of living a decent life, it's not even on the TABLE, by literally no fault of his own (because he's never done anything wrong). I'm going to scream.

0-6? Forces unbelievably outside of his control are organizing, ensuring, and executing an ethnic cleansing of his entire clan at the hands of his favoritest person in the world. Forces including the shattered psyche of said favoritest person, who tortures him until he is too terrified and traumatized to even think about anything else for years.

7-12? enrolled in Child Soilder School, completely isolated socially (not as a pariah but as a prodigy) befret of any support system, still traumatized beyond belief, and left with no outlet for any of his issues besides obsessing over the day, one day in the future, where Itachi will be dead and all this unresolved suffering and guilt and love and anger and fear and fear and FEAR will go away forever. Right? Because it has to. There has to be an end. Right?

12? Government assigned found family give him the support and love and attention and outlet and for the future that he's been craving for so long he didn't even KNOW it's what he needed. Has a soulmate and a bestie that can read his mind and a mentor who actually is willing to meet him where he's at and help him and maybe even love him and is this......Hope? That perhaps he can have a life outside of what Itachi did to- Itachi. Itach- FUCK. ITACHI IS LITERALLY HUNTING NARUTO FOR SPORT WITH ALL HIS WAR CRIMINAL FRIENDS AND SASUKE SHOULDN'T HAVE LET HIS GUARD DOWN BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW STRONG KAKASHI OR EVEN THE WHOLE VILLAGE IS, ITACHI WILL KILL ANYONE SASUKE IS STUPID AND SHORT SIDED AND CRUEL ENOUGH TO CARE ABOUT, HOW DID HE FORGET, HOW DARE HE FORGET, HE NEEDS TO GET STRONGER HE NEEDS TO AVENGE HIS CLAN HE NEEDS TO FUFILL HIS FRATERNAL DUTY HE NEEDS TO LEAVE BEFORE ANYONE ELSE IS MURDERED BY ASSOCIATION-

He dropped a lit match on his support system behind him him and ran into the cold shadows of obsessive anger that he only stepped out of long enough to loose the ability to ignore the gnawing want for warmth. That's bad enough, not even taking cohabitating with goddamned OROCHIMARU. No further explanation required there.

17? Kills his brother, gets NONE of the 'benefits' he spent his life convincing (begging) himself must be awaiting at the end. Instead everyhting has, in fact, gotten much worse very quickly and now all he has is a list of powerful people and systems that don't work and hurts and kills and tortures the people they've promised to protect that no one except him will oppose because it's basically suicide, and isn't he already so familiar with being on the shit side of this dynamic? Isn't it the normalest thing in the world, to fill the hole where his vengeance used to be with a hunt with near identical goals and intentions of his first vengance, the only real difference being his increasing dissalussion with ever being able to 'go back home', his almost all comsuming doubt that there's a 'home' waiting for him still, if there ever even was? So he dives into another goal before it goes as cold as the love he doesn't dare indulge, accumulating more power and rage then he knows what to do with (where can he put it down? where can he put it down?) and no reason NOT to challange corruption until it's either all gone or it kills him. Naruto, once the only person who looked at him with empathy instead of pity or expectation, thinks he should grit his teeth and bear it and go back to the village, as if that was ever an option for him. Sakura, once the only person who understood him, who followed his every thought process with ease and loved him even when he thought himself a monster, has finally given up on him and tries to kill him. What can he do but laugh as the world burns? It burned him first.

Now, honestly, a good chunk of the guys would not be good at all for anxiety, they don't even rate out of ten haha

Some of them are sadistic enough to purposefully try and trigger panic attacks when they learn you have anxiety, like the Living Death. Now, he's a pervert, but I feel like he would enjoy your anxiety because he could feel more in control of you; it would help him isolate you further. If he could manipulate you into never leaving his cabin, he'd be the happiest man on the seven seas

But some guys like Dr. Campbell would enjoy seeing you crumple before him for more nefarious reasons. I can imagine him mocking his darling as he fucks them, telling them how much he loves it when they act hysterical because they clench him so good. He's a complete sadist who would get turned on the second he knew he was the one causing his love anxiety. There would never be even a second of comfort for you in his home, Ichabod would do everything in his power to keep you on edge all the time.

And finally, my lovely bedbug monster ❤️ he definitely cares about you, but only in a primal sense. You are his mate, you shall carry his spawn, and you shall stay at his side. He wouldn't understand what anxiety is, since he keeps you in a constant state of pain and fear. Yeah, he may be cuddling your side, but you're never not covered in blood; and not all of it is your own. If you're struggling, it's no different than when he's tearing into your abdomen to pump children direction into your body ❤️

Hot take, but I think Gortash has immense self hatred and actively choses to be miserable.

It would be easy just to go back home. His parents love him now. He has the money to fix everything. He controls them. There's no way they can harm him anymore. And yet he doesn't. He stays away, in his fortress, in his Iron Throne. In scarcely decorated places that lack most comfort.

It would be easy to use his money to look spotless, splendid, to blend in with society and be just like the others, just how his parents always wanted him to be. But he doesn't. Instead, he continues to be eccentric. And worst of all, he wears all the symbolism of the hell he's just escaped. The tormentor of his childhood is everywhere.

It would've been easy to discard everything and run away with Durge. He got them to defy their father to a frightening degree. If he had tried, he could've convinced them. It would've saved himself, Durge, both of them if he did. And yet he pushed forward, even knowing what he did and what end would eventually wait for him.

Gortash apparently knew the brain was changing. But he decided to do and say nothing about it. I love me some unhinged Orin but I'd argue she'd be reasonable enough to postpone her bloodkin lobotomy plans if she caught wind of an elder brain changing into a netherbrain thanks to said bloodkin doing funny stuff. They could've prevented this whole story if my guy had simply said something. But he decided to just, not?

He's deeply contradictory. He's a genius, but his mistakes and faults in his plans are evident to even the greatest fools. He's determined to be loved, to be a hero, and yet when he's offered love, or heroism he turns away from it.

Also did I mention that he's the one person who can legitimately turn on his patron but refuses to? Ketheric can't because otherwise Isobel is forsaken. Durge and Orin can't because Bhaal can just barge in and control them like the puppets they are, but Bane? He doesn't have a hold like this over Gortash. Gortash doesn't even seem to fear him as much as he'd like. And yet that man refuses to turn his back on a deity who will torture his soul for fuck all reasons without really receiving smth in return. He just keeps going knowing he can't win.

Oh and the whole 'putting Bhaals handcrafted scion on a leash' bit? Normal people would stay a safe distance away from people that can and will gut them for minor reasons, but he decided to understand that as a challenge?

I'd argue he's just an arrogant maniac, but the utter disregard of his safety kinda goes against that. Being a tyrant is cool but you can only properly tyrant if you're alive, and Gorty over here is making 0 efforts to improve his life or keep it for that matter.

procrastinating school work so let me talk about my starwars (Anakin) aus

There's that lion!Vader Au, if I named it I don't remember the name but basically, either Anakin doesn't tell Padme where he's going or she doesn't go to Mustafar. might actually have R2D2 with Padme as her bodyguard or Anakin just didn't want r2 to know what he did to the separatist leaders. anakin doesn't come back from Mustafar because when he leaves the planet, the force decides 'okay, enough atrocities for the next... two decades.' and transforms him into a lion and sends him to a green planet. Sidious finds him a year later and decides to just build a gladiator ring and throw him in there to execute the people he wants dead on television.

19 years later Luke, Leia, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Padme, Cody, and Rex all get captured and are sentenced to be executed as a group with some other non-important people. Anakin eats the non-important people and vaguely recognizes some but tries to kill Luke and Leia because he doesn't recognize them.

SITS au - sith in the senate au - me trying to explore my favorite arc (mortis) and what would have happened if Anakin left with the son (and the daughter) and the father let Ahsoka and Obi-wan go thirty minutes later but Anakin is nowhere in sight when they go back to the real world. this is also the au where the Tusken massacre is really addressed in this au, in others it didn't happen, obviously in lion!vader it did since it only changes in rots. i don't know if it's really a character study that I'm doing for this au but I'm actually writing an essay on Anakin for my writing class and I'm so using elements from this for that and from that for this.

(please- someone stop me from making Barriss run away from the Jedi and Anakin adopting Barriss after she ends up on Tatooine and Anakin gets over his initial feeling of 'YOU D:<')

anakin gets found by Palpatine and Shmi dies (i think) but surely its not you Pal Friendpatine's fault :0

Anyway, Palpatine finds Anakin at like... 5 and adopts him and brings him on his path to becoming chancellor and then the clone wars start at the Naboo blockade, Palpatine started cloning **early**. no, I have no idea how old Jango Fett is, why do you ask? anakin befriends some of the clones and takes an interest in politics because he thinks he can convince then senate to stop creating clones and just recruit normal civilians to the army.

this au is inspired by Hazbin Hotel song 'you didn't know' and some brave group of clones tries to plead their case to the senate, ankin watches in on it, nala se mentions the chips in the kaminoan rebuttal of clone rights and Anakin FREAKS. palpatine tries to calm him saying 'they are to control them, they're dangerous otherwise' and basically dooms himself. also, Anakin specifically has wings. see, I subscribe to the thinking of 'Anakin can shapeshift due to his unstable DNA' Edit: I Found it! @thewildballyntynesgrow or mballyntyne on Ao3 with their series 'A Wild Thing to Tame'. Anakin leaves taking a majority of the coruscant guard with him and goes back to Tatooine and starts freeing a whole bunch of planets over the years. the meeting in the senate takes place when he is fourteen, the empire starts when he is seventeen. Anakin adopts Boba and Galen Marek. anakin and the freed outer rim either hide rebel bases or use their revolutions as distractions for the empire.

Retconned rebel Anakin Au. aka, Barriss is the same age as Anakin and befriends him and Ferus eventually befriends him, and Anakin is closer to those two and some others than Obi-wan and Ahsoka (who is Obi-wan's padawan) Barriss never bombs the temple, the empire rises but the original empire dies like a year into the reign and another emperor rises.... Emperor Obi-wan Kenobi and his daughter Ahsoka how are both overly attached to rebel leader Anakin Skywalker and are both trying to adopt him and turn him to their side... by kidnapping Anakin's family. (rexanidala). anakin adopts so many kids, most of them are force-sensitive and want to fight so he lets them reluctantly but those not young enough to choose or fight are sent to live with Rex, Padme, Luke, Leia, and their grandparents; Dooku and Plo.

Ventress and Anakin Swap au, sort of. anakin got nabbed from his mom by Dooku. Dooku never found Ventress, Obi-wan does instead. Obi does not train Ventress but they are friends forever after. ventress tries forcefully redeeming the seventeen-eighteen year old Sith lord and it only sort of works. he defects but really only after he finds out about the slavery in creating battle droids. Anakin isn't really a separatist general, he just has a specialized group of droids that he rebuilds after fights with Jedi. he never fights clones with droids.

after defecting Anakin plans with Ventress and decides to free the outer rim then take the former slaves that will join him and start up a third party to the war. inspired by 'blood oath' by the art of pleasing princes.

okay so for this next au, named Anakin Umakkar, The rain storm. sources are ADragonsFriend and @fialleril or fialleril on a03, and @clawedandcute or ClawedandCute (Adi_Fire) on a03. and songs this au is inspired by for this au is (and in order) Puppeteer, Done For, Hell is Forever, There are Other Ways, What Did I Miss? and Respectless.

Umakkar was a name I first read about in a book called 'Elder sisters' by ADragonsFriend. I first heard about Ekkreth in Fialleril's books. the concept of Anakin staying on Tatooine was inspired by ClawedandCute's book and au 'The Accidental Sith'

Anyway, Qui-gon and the queen's ship never stops on Tatooine, but the clone wars do not start early. a solid two months into the Clone Wars, it is revealed that Jabba the Hutt has been dead for a year, and Tatooine has freed itself from the huts. Senator Padme Amidala and Jedi Obi-wan Kenobi (and Padawan Ahsoka Tano) are sent to Tatooine to try to get Tatooine to align with the republic. now please listen to Puppeteer and Done For (no, Anakin does not turn any clones into pigs, just like any non-clone serving in the army ). once Obi-wan draws his lightsaber on Anakin, Anakin just swipes it away, unhurt, and has him and other... three (Cody, Padme, and Ahsoka)locked up until he decided to hear them out. (cue hell is forever, the last lines being, "the freed outer rim has found both the separatists and the republic to be the enemy" ya know due to their armies) then when it looks like Anakin is gonna do something to them to send a message to the republic, Obi-wan pleads with him and mentions the Sith Dooku mentioned and any evil smile on Anakin's face slips away into annoyance "Sidious, huh?" and in 'There are other ways' fashion tells obi-wan about Mortis and other wells in the force that might be better for the Jedi to focus at. when asked why he had that reaction to the 'Sidious' character, he implies that Sidious has reached out to him to join either side of the war, like once per side.

he sends Obi-Wan and the Clones that want to return on their way and a year later decides that enough is enough and heads to Coruscant under the pretense of negotiating. palpatine sets up a committee to welcome Tatooine to the republic only for 'respectless' to happen and Anakin starts arguing with Orn Free Taa, then Palpatine himself and once Palpatine leaves, turns to the Jedi in the room and says "yeah, you might want to look into that..." and leaves.

Detached Mortis god au: inspired by the ocean saga

switching up the timeline here, Rako Hardeen happens, the Wrong Jedi arc happens, *Then* mortis happens. Anakin is alone on Mortis, he decides to stay, Padme is pregnant, the empire rises, Padme survives and joins the rebellion, Ahsoka becomes Fulcrum. Obi-wan joins the rebellion to help train Luke and Leia. Luke, Leia, Han, Ezra and some others start on a mission, but it starts off rough. Ezra decides to pray to a Force Diety he or Ahsoka met once and the diety appears and decides to grant them safe passage to the actual start of the mission as long as they keep Ahsoka, who they meet up with later on the mission, safe. if they accept and fail, another god is going to have a really big problem with them. they accept and all goes well until the last day of the mission, everything falls apart and Ahsoka is separated from the group and captured. the gang decides they need to go back to base to think and plan. on their way back their ship is seemingly attacked but they cant tell by what, they crash land at base and get out of the ship, not the falcon, only to meet two dragon-like-creatures, and a portal opens and a very pissed Anakin steps out. he kidnaps a bunch of rebels and puts them in the world between worlds and tells them they only get their people back when Ahsoka is safe. Obi-Wan and Padme only make it to the hangar this goes down once Anakin has stepped back through the portal.

i love that the answer to how to integrate heart pirates, or at least law and bepo, into one piece movie plots is through bepo lmao. bc it’s so true, law is too smart, his nature is too controlling and he’s too protective of his crew for it to make sense for him to fall into crazy shenanigans and traps the way straw hat crew tend to do, yaknow? for it to make sense, law has to be dragged into the shenanigans, but how to accomplish that? imo, One Piece Red did it perfectly bc of how the story used bepo. dare i say, when bepo is involved, this changes everything for law! bepo wants to go to uta concert? ok bepo can go but law insists on chaperoning! perfect way to integrate law and bepo in one piece movie plot, 10/10, would love to see again 🤌✨

also can i just say that i will never ever be over how insanely protective boyfriend-coded law is in Red? i imagine the conversation went something like bepo begging law to let him go to the concert and law is hesitant at first bc he’s heard concerts can be dangerous and he worries for bepo’s safety but then he realizes the obvious solution is that he will go with bepo to make sure his babygirl stays safe! like?? i love it, i can’t get over it! uta concert is definitely not law’s scene, he could’ve just as easily said that bepo can’t go, but law wants bepo to be happy and he knows bepo loves uta, so that law likely insisted on going to the concert as bepo’s chaperone, so that he can make sure bepo is safe and also make bepo happy, it is just so sweet! such a perfect example of law’s Bepo Bias™️, bepo is the exception to nearly every rule isn’t he lmao, i love that so much!

so RED was absolutely brilliant. how to get Law to partake in a silly thing-turn dangerous - make it Bepo's fault - there are no losers there - Bepo tends to do silly shit and he will be forgiven and Law will turn everything upside down for his baby - be it going to a ridiculous concert with him or be it saving him....we need Bepo as a damsel in distress - we need nexnext OP movie plot to have first mates be damsels in distress so we can have a reluctant captain trio team up and also killer-zoro-bepo to interact

and law's protective boyfriend-ism in RED is insane and we should rave about it every day because THEY WERE CRAZY TO DO THAT - OH ARE YOU A FAN TOO TRAFALGAR? NO (MY BABY WANTED TO GO) its soooo unnecessary for him to go himself but because he is Law and you gotta have Law in your movie they created a situation where its "holy shit he couldve sent ANYBODY but he went himself because he loves Bepo so much??? I think something that's so interesting about Mr. Scratch is that even though he's formed partially if not mostly from distorted rumors and vibes the press and general public have about Alan, he doesn't seem to recognize Barry's importance in his own creation. Barry, Alan's agent, responsible for handling the outward flow of information about Alan's frankly apeshit behavior. 0-o

There's so many different possibilities, on one hand Mr. Scratch could be so much worse, without Barry being there to litigiously protect Alan every time he threw a punch. Not only would Alan probably continue rampaging but also it would spin out of control in the tabloids. Mr. Scratch is shown as being able to focus on task (i.e. getting distracted by literally every female character in American Nightmare but quickly pivoting back to his job– like attacking the observatory guy in the middle of hanging out with Emma Sloan in the Diner), but imagine a much more frantically violent Mr. Scratch who really isn't able to control it or cover it up with a veneer of eerie congeniality, because without Barry there to babysit Alan and run interference, everyone would be able to see just how fucked Alan's behavior was, and with that stoking the fire of public judgement, it would carry through to be an even more prominent trait of Mr. Scratch's. In a way Mr. Scratch is as competent as he is because his shred of impulse control doesn't come naturally from Alan, who had to develop it later.

On the other hand, Barry being a lifelong friend of Alan and trying and failing to intervene in Alan's self-destructive impulses to the point that they spill out into *everything*-destructive impulses to the tune of $30k+ is what gives Mr. Scratch the foothold to be an actually very physically intimidating enemy. That's so fun too, something that makes him feel so strong compared to the both literally and metaphorically bundled up Alan. It's not like it's Barry's fault, Alan is the stubborn one having a mass scale attitude problem, but even that struggle contributes to why Mr. Scratch has a negative opinion of Barry too, he's just gonna get in the way of his fun!! EYELESS JACK

How I see it eyeless jack seems different from a couple others, but maybe some people have thought the same!!

Jack is a person who had become possessed by evil (Demon, Devil, Spirit, Etc.) but no one really knows which evil it is.

Eyeless Jack in my verison is actually a successful vessle sacrifice! The vessle itself has completely lost all awareness and ego which has been replaced with whatever Jack is.

Technically, Jack isn't even his name :0]. The name was swipped from an Author.

Jack enjoys literature immensely and will regularly take books from homes and libraries (returning the library books though)

He's a yapper, bro can't shut the fuck up even in tense situations.

He can eat only meat and only raw. This actually includes anything that just isn't a plant: seafood, livestock, and humans are all easily digestable to him.

He however enjoys a human kidney the most!

Jack isn't actually all that shy. He loves fear in the taste of meat so he will regularly lift his mask to scare people more than with it on.

As he is eyeless, Jack sees in light and dark patches and is extremely sensitive to light levels.

The sap/tar-like substance in his eyes can actually be seen through, making him able to spread out his limited vision over a wide area.

As long as the tar stays wet (and takes very long to dry anyways) hes able to see through it as though its his own vision!

Jack isn't able to process others emotions. He understands emotion and is able to describe it but all his information comes from stalking/hunting victims and books. Interaction isn't great.

He can be degrading most of the time and loves to start shit (between two other people not just with him) but its almost weirdly able to make you talk to him

Jack, while he doesn't actually understand this, has a constant mental haze around his person. He is able to lull others into spilling out more and speaking their mind because of this ability. It isn't controllable and is just a constant.

Jack will sometimes get the vessles memories, but completely disregards them and even sometimes insults them because he finds the lingering possession more fun than sad.

He is completely obsessed with anatomy. It is his ultimate interest and will just explore anatomy of any living thing only to explain it to others later. This has gotten him the (unofficial and morally questionable) role of doctor

His room has taxidermy animals (created by Zero) and bug collections (made by Jeff) with some being present in the infirmary/office.

He loves making deals with victims who try to barder for their life and then chastises them "is your life worth so little?" "Do you find yourself that important?" "Shame you can't think grander." And much else

THE TRAPPER

April is so evil man. You can say it isn't her fault because of her father but she herself admits she's going straight to hell and even regularly insults God and Death about their inability to take her life.

April, after escaping prison, returned a month later to the men's side to brutally murder her father in his cell. (They were kept in the same facility)

She then murdered her lawyer (Easter), the prosecutor (Father's Day), and the Judge and their entire families (Christmas) because she absolutely hated the fact she was put on death row when her father only got life.

She keeps herself in bogs, swamps, and marshes and can trasport between the places as she pleases.

April will regularly let herself be murdered by her victims to allow them some feeling of victory because she finds their terror knowing shes alive after all the better.

April is an amazing cook and will seak out recipes to try out anytime she can.

April finds everyone to be a meal and will even categorize people into dishes she'd cook them into.

Being The Trapper she has riddled and even loaned out traps. All her traps are made with the intent of causing as much pain and blood loss as possible to the recipient and does tests on them herself to prove effectiveness.

She is a lover of pain and blood.

She has regular arguments with her superiors (proxies) and is an all around pain in the ass to deal with but she can't refuse a single thing they say.

She works hard and works efficiently, unless she's bored then she's fucking around and even killed in broad, crowded daylight considering she's already a convict.

Ghost Boy (Titus) is her immediate boss and has a very brash and unloving relationship with the man. She tries to get under his skin regularly and even invades his space until he snaps at her to die.

Guns are her favorite thing in the whole world (just behind her husband) and has a vast collection. The gun she uses the most is a 4 gauge which she keeps in prime condition. The gun is named Harvey after her late husband.

Harvey is the only person in April’s entire life that she considered a true love. To this day she will wear her wedding ring (Harvey's had been taken by his family) and will always fight tooth and nail to keep it in her possession.

While not canon (BONUS)

Eyeless Jack and April hang out regularly and enjoy meals together.

The two are absolutely menaces in any situation together.

April would be an (un)honory doctor along side Eyeless Jack as she had gone to collage for medical before being arrested.

felipe massa and the championship that got away: an analysis

prompted mostly by massa pissing me off so bad with his campaign of misinformation (like bro sue the weather while you’re at it); this involved rewatching absolute disasterclasses and a few snoozefests during my free wednesday (the weather was terrible as well so took the time to refresh my memory on some of the less memorable 2008 races and compile this mess) and my eyes were bleeding so please show some love

ok, so on a more serious note, he wasn’t absolutely dreadful (apart from in the wet); my biggest issue is that we probably don’t know just how good that 2008 ferrari really was; in the hands of someone with much better quali/race pace it could probably have dominated much more strongly; i think his performance was quite average considering the potential the car had; he had some brilliant weekends as well, but i think they are quite significantly overshadowed by the dreadful ones; then again, 2008 wasn’t lewis’ best season either, and this analysis isn’t really to compare the two, it’s mostly to showcase that massa’s assertion of it being a ‘perfect’ championship isn’t quite true…is all this necessary? ofc not, but i’m going to have some fun with it anyhow;

i also made this because the concept of ‘deserving’ something is one i deeply deeply despise in sport; the only thing you can bring to the table with such discourse is your own subjective opinion; you win or you don’t, end of; you can, of course, be robbed of something when a rule is indeed broken, but the concept of ‘deserving a championship due to how you performed over the course of a season’ is frankly stupid; and do i think massa was robbed? no. he can’t prove that crashgate was the very thing that cost him the championship because it conveniently ignores everything else that happens afterwards. there’s a clear break in the chain of causation. he neither ‘deserves’ it in my opinion, nor was he robbed of it and i also don’t like the historical revisionism he’s campaigning for either so here’s a full rundown of felipe massa’s season (i tried to be as impartial as i could in this):

top 2 in the driver’s standings (included only for the sake of completeness, please don’t cite toto’s 'wikipedia statistics' quote at me):

some background information:

the 2008 championship comes right after the spygate shitshow of the previous season; fernando alonso leaves mclaren for renault after one year; heikki kovalainen replaces him to drive alongside lewis hamilton at mclaren; felipe massa and kimi raikkonen (the reigning world champion) are teammates at ferrari (kimi’s 2008 season is also interesting to revisit considering the internal ferrari politics at play but i’ll save it for a different time); it's an eighteen race season, and for this season traction control has been banned! (it's important to mention considering the ban had been brought up several times over the season as a reason to explain some of felipe's performances considering he had never driven a formula one car without traction control before);

moreover, the fia’s decision-making this season was questionable to say the least; this is obviously not felipe's fault ofc, but there were a few decisions which he had certainly benefited from at lewis’ expense (spa comes to mind…);

2008 scoring system quick refresher: p1: 10 points, p2: 8 pts, p3: 6 pts; scoring only up to eighth place;

for the race results i will only include the top 3 as well as lewis if he finishes off the podium; for the championship standings i will include the top 3 in the championship as they were after every race (+ HAM/MAS/RAI if they were outside) and on how many points they were after every race;

australian gp (0 points, dnf)

bit of an embarrassing start tbh…massa qualifies p4 but spins in the first corner of the first lap all on his own and hits the barrier; he manages to get back into the pits though and get a front wing change; however, on lap 26 he collides with DC when trying to overtake him; DC retires, but massa continues only to retire from an engine failure a few laps later; pretty shit start to the season

race result: lewis hamilton p1, nick heidfeld p2, nico rosberg p3 (the infamous brocedes podium btw)

malaysian gp (0 points, dnf)

much better qualifying, ferrari clearly has pace as massa qualifies on pole, with raikkonen in p2; however on lap 31 felipe spins off and gets trapped in the gravel; this race was a masterclass from kimi btw, he won by nearly twenty seconds from kubica in p2; also before massa crashed, kimi also managed to get ahead of felipe in the first round of pit stops after pitting a lap after felipe by producing a brilliant in-lap

race result: kimi raikkonen p1, robert kubica p2, heikki kovalainen p3 (lewis p5- qualifying penalty for impeding drivers in quali and had started p8 + slow pitstop by mclaren in the race)

championship standings: HAM (14 points), RAI (11), HEI (11) + MAS (0)

bahrain gp (10 points, p1)

it’s kubica on pole (who i also need to mention because he arguably was the best driver of the 2008 season) and massa starts p2; felipe overtakes kubica in the first corner and then maintains the lead for the rest of the race; very good performance for him and good bounce-back from the first two races

race result: felipe massa p1, kimi raikkonen p2, robert kubica p3 (lewis p13- bit of a disaterclass from him this time around, as he went into anti-stall at the start due to going into a wrong engine mode and dropped positions; he then drives right into the back of fernando’s renault and had to get a nose change, dropping him to p18)

championship: RAI (19), HEI (16), HAM (14) + MAS (10)

spanish gp (8 points, p2)

ferrari are dominating the past few races and the same happens in spain; kimi pole, felipe p3; massa overtakes alonso at the start and it's a ferrari 1-2 procession to the end basically; the race was basically sorted with the overtakes made at the start; also a literal snoozefest;

race result: kimi raikkonen p1, felipe massa p2, lewis hamilton p3

championship: RAI (19), HAM (20), KUB (19) + MAS p4 (18)

turkish gp (10 points, p1)

actually a pretty good race from massa; starts on pole and wins the race; lewis comes in second, executing a three-stopper (arguably this strategy cost mclaren the chance of fighting for the win but they were worried about tyres…still i think, a bit on the conservative side from mclaren in terms of strategy and considering lewis’ amazing pace relative to massa bit of a missed opportunity)

race result: felipe massa p1, lewis hamilton p2, kimi raikkonen p3

championship: RAI (35), MAS (28), HAM (28)

monaco gp (6 points, p3)

wet monaco and absolute chaos! (great race to rewatch btw); massa qualified on pole, but then lost the lead because of a mistake in the wet; lewis wins, and also brilliant race by kubica;

race result: lewis hamilton p1, robert kubica p2, felipe massa p3

championship: HAM (38), RAI (35), MAS (34)

canadian gp (4 points, p5)

massa qualifies p6, ferrari fuel rig problem in the pit lane meant he dropped down to p17; he fights back to p5; and because hamilton crashed into raikkonen in the pit lane, he managed to outscore the both of them that weekend; also robert wins! relative to the others, a pretty good weekend for massa;

race result: robert kubica p1, nick heidfeld p2, david coulthard p3 (every time i remember DC raced in 2008 it’s like a shock to my system)

championship: KUB (42), MAS (38), HAM (38) + RAI, p4 (35)

french gp (10 points, p1)

again, ferrari are pretty much dominating in quali; kimi takes pole, felipe p2; it was kimi’s race to win and he was comfortably leading however he then had to slow down due to his car suffering from an exhaust pipe breaking and hence, loss of engine power; felipe therefore, inherits the lead and wins the race;

race result: felipe massa p1, kimi raikkonen p2, jarno trulli p3 (lewis- p10, he had to take a grid drop for the incident in the pitlane in canada when he ran into the back of kimi; in the race he has to serve a drive-through penalty for cutting a corner and gaining an advantage)

championship: MAS (48), KUB (46), RAI (43) + HAM, p4 (38)

british gp (0 points, p13)

massa qualified p2 alongside lewis; this is one of lewis’ best drives of the season i think; he was leading the race comfortably in the beginning stages, pulling away from felipe like crazy (he gained 1.8 sec in the first lap, had a 3.7 sec lead by lap 4, 11 sec by lap 18, clearly on a mission); mclaren don’t pit him under safety car when everyone else around him does, so he has eight laps to build a large gap before having to eventually pit himself; he does on lap 50 and overtakes massa and piquet jr for the win (some really nice overtakes btw); massa really just didn’t have the pace to compete;

race result: lewis hamilton p1, nelson piquet jr p2, felipe massa p3

championship: HAM (58), MAS (54), RAI (51)

hungarian gp (0 points, p17/dnf)

this one was bad luck because massa suffered an engine failure when leading the race; it would have probably been his best win of his career had he not dnf'ed- good overtake on lewis at the start

race result: heikki kovalainen p1, timo glock p2, kimi raikkonen p3 (lewis- p5, suffered a tyre puncture on lap 40; tbf the early seasons also show lewis is still learning about tyre management and that he’s still prone to overcooking his tyres making them vulnerable to punctures)

european gp (10 points, p1)

qualifies on pole and wins the race; he nearly manages to crash into sutil when released into the pit lane after his pit stop; the team is charged with 10,000 euros after the race but felipe keeps his win (it would be dealt with so differently these days lmao but can’t really blame him)

championship: HAM (70), MAS (64), RAI (57)

belgian gp (10 points, p1)

this race still makes my blood boil; funnily enough felipe wins after not leading a single lap in this race! lewis gets handed a 25-second penalty by the stewards and gets demoted to p3; quick recap: lewis tried to pass kimi at the bus stop chicane, but he cut the corner and got into the lead; he allowed kimi to re-pass him because he gained an advantage by going off track; but smartly, he passes kimi again at la source; post-race he’s handed a penalty; mclaren then appeal and say that charlie whiting himself said that lewis had given the place back to kimi completely legally; thing is, charlie isn��t the stewards, who say that lewis didn’t give kimi enough of an advantage; it causes a bit of a storm in the media, niki lauda goes off and calls it the ‘worst judgment in the history of f1’; thing is, it's a really grey area, to some extent i can understand the stewards’ reasoning, but the severity of the punishment is absolutely ridiculous and also points to how inconsistent the fia is...handing him 25 seconds just doesn’t fit the crime at all; (also the last four laps are just pure drama in general! worth a watch);

(if i had a nickel for every time felipe massa got handed a lucky win in 2008, i’d have two nickels. which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice)

race result: felipe massa p1, nick heidfeld p2, lewis hamilton p3

championship: HAM (76), MAS (74), KUB (58) + RAI, p4 (57)

italian gp (3 points, p6)

bit of a disasterclass, qualifies p6, finishes p6; but funnily enough, he still finished ahead of both kimi and lewis as the both of them were sent out on the wrong tyres in qualifying and only managed to qualify p14 and p15; btw beautiful overtakes by lewis (he finished p7- just one place behind felipe); also seb wins!

race result: sebastian vettel p1, keikki kovalainen p2, robert kubica p3

singapore gp (0 points, p13)

crashgate! he gets pole (quite an impressive pole lap i must admit) and leads the race until piquet jr crashes, and felipe pits, ferrari release him too early and he drives off with the fuel hose still attached to his car…to that i say, maybe sue your pit crew as well

race result: fernando alonso p1, nico rosberg p2, lewis hamilton p3

championship: HAM (84), MAS (77), KUB (64) + RAI, p4 (57)

japanese gp (2 points, p7)

now this one is a disasterclass on all fronts, but if you want drama i recommend watching it; felipe qualified p5; he managed to crash into hamilton and got himself a drive-through penalty; he also tangled with bourdais when attempting to overtake him on lap 50; bourdais was blamed for it and got a 25-second penalty after the race; thing is, i don’t see how it’s only bourdais’ fault tbh? massa squeezed bourdais as he attempted to pass him going into the first corner and bourdais couldn’t just disappear…anyway the decision to penalise bourdais was criticised a lot, also considering that penalising him went against charlie whiting’s pre-race direction that the car exiting the pit-lane has the right of way (which bourdais was);

race result: fernando alonso p1, robert kubica p2, kimi raikkonen p3 (lewis hamilton- p12, bit of a disasterclass from him as well)

championship: HAM (84), MAS (79), KUB (72) + RAI, p4 (63)

chinese gp (8 points, p2)

qualifies p3, behind lewis and kimi; lewis comfortably leads the race and wins it fifteen seconds ahead of p2; massa finished second after raikkonen is instructed to let him through (ferrari team orders, bit of a deja vu)

race result: lewis hamilton p1, felipe massa p2, kimi raikkonen p3

championship: HAM (94), MAS (87), KUB (75) + RAI, p4 (69)

brazilian gp (10 points, p1)

ahead of the last race of the season, massa could still win the title if he wins the race and lewis finishes p6 or lower; massa did all he could: he got pole and won the race; mclaren opted for an incredibly conservative strategy in the race (they only needed to secure p5, and considering how they lost the title only the year before, it’s explicable): for e.g. waiting for a relatively long time to get lewis off the inters when it began to dry during the first part of the race;

race result: felipe massa p1, fernando alonso p2, kimi raikkonen p3 (lewis- p5 and world champion!)

championship: HAM (98), MAS (97), RAI (75); shoutout to robert kubica who had an absolutely amazing season and who also finished on 75 points, but ended up p4 on countback.

Let's (re)Read The Eye of the World! Chapter 29: Eyes Without Pity

Hello and welcome to my rewatch of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds! Despite being entirely about Alfred Hitchcock and not fantasy novels, this post contains massive spoilers for the series The Wheel of Time, from book 0 to book 14. If I could spoil books -2, -1, and 15 through 17 I would, but spoiler alert: They're never going to happen. Very sad.

This chapter starts with a wolf icon, which is a reflection of all of the new wolf powers that Perrin is going to be unwillingly developing this chapter. It's pretty straightforward.

Perrin exchanged glances with Egwene. She stuck her tongue out at Elyas’s back. Neither of them said anything. The one time Egwene had protested that Elyas was the one who wanted to go around the hills and he should not blame them, it got her a lecture on how sound carried, delivered in a growl that could have been heard a mile off.

Elyas is going above and beyond in terms of trying to keep these two kids safe, but he's yet another dude who is completely biting Egwene's head off. Girl puts up with way too much crap in this first book. And way worse in the next book. Thank goodness it'll be her turn to be awful in book three I guess.

“We’re wasting time,” he said, starting to stand, and a flock of ravens burst out of the trees below, fifty, a hundred black birds, spiraling into the sky. He froze in a crouch as they milled over the trees. The Dark One’s Eyes. Did they see me? Sweat trickled down his face.

More corvid slander, but I'll take it because they're about to be genuinely terrifying in a book filled with a lot of competition.

Elyas shook his head. “In the Borderlands I’ve seen sweeps with a thousand ravens to the flock. Not too often—there’s a bounty on ravens there—but it has happened.” He was still looking north. “Hush, now.”

It would be absolutely hilarious if one of the reasons that the Blightborder was constantly expanding was that the removal of carrion eaters from the ecosystem encouraged the exact kind of unnatural ecologies that thrive in the Blight.

Abruptly a fox burst out of the trees, running hard. Ravens poured from the branches after it. The beat of their wings almost drowned out a desperate whining from the fox. A black whirlwind dove and swirled around it. The fox’s jaws snapped at them, but they darted in, and darted away untouched, black beaks glistening wetly. The fox turned back toward the trees, seeking the safety of its den. It ran awkwardly now, head low, fur dark and bloody, and the ravens flapped around it, more and more of them at once, the fluttering mass thickening until it hid the fox completely. As suddenly as they had descended the ravens rose, wheeled, and vanished over the next rise to the south. A misshapen lump of torn fur marked what had been the fox.

Good advice, Elyas. Sadly, completely wasted on these two, as Perrin's fears never come close to killing him and Egwene's uncontrolled ones are entirely post-traumatic and not really her fault.

Moving in a stumbling trot, Perrin exchanged a glance with Elyas. The man’s yellow eyes were expressionless, but he knew. He said nothing, just watched Perrin and waited, all the while maintaining that effortless lope.

On the one hand, Elyas really doesn't seem to appreciate that this isn't the time. On the other hand, he's the only person who makes Perrin take any steps towards his personal growth, so it's hard to be that mad at him for it.

The wolves had no notions of time the way men did, no reasons to divide a day into hours. The seasons were time enough for them, and the light and the dark. No need for more. Finally Perrin worked out an image of where the sun would stand in the sky when the ravens overran them from behind. He glanced over his shoulder at the setting sun, and licked his lips with a dry tongue. In an hour the ravens would be on them, maybe less. An hour, and it was a good two hours to sunset, at least two to full dark.

I just love stuff this whole sequence. I don't have much to say about it, it's all just... grim and tense. Everything feels hopeless and I know for a fact that things are going to be all right.

Perrin looked at Egwene again and blinked away hot tears. He touched his axe and wondered if he had the courage. In the last minutes, when the ravens descended on them, when all hope was gone, would he have the courage to spare her the death the fox had died?

This is an interesting semi-recurring issue in Perrin's arc, one that kinda steps on Rand's toes and clashes with a few things; his having to learn the things that aren't his calls to make, whether it's marrying off his staff or deciding when to put someone out of their misery. It's something that could have been a better character beat if it had been focused on instead of his refusal to take responsibility, but like I said it's just weirdly clashing with that instead.

I think it's an artifact of the fact that the three ta'veren boys were originally going to be one character, maybe? Perrin was clearly the grab bag choice for overflow, either because Jordan had an intermediate step of trying to do two ta'veren before realizing even that was too much or because once he did the split he wanted to do three and didn't notice how the third leg of the tripod was shorter than the others.

Safety, that’s what. We made it, you bloody fools. No raven will cross that line . . . not one that carries the Dark One’s eyes, anyways. A Trolloc would have to be driven across, and there’d need to be something fierce pushing the Myrddraal to make him do the driving.

Thanks for telling them that salvation was on the way, Elyas. The terror they felt being completely unnecessary is clearly very funny to you!

“A stedding,” Elyas roared. “You never listen to stories? Of course, there hasn’t been an Ogier here in three thousand odd years, not since the Breaking of the World, but it’s the stedding makes the Ogier, not the Ogier make the stedding.”

I believe this claim of Elyas's, since this particular stedding probably has the best documented history of the uninhabited one. It does make me wonder though why this one was overlooked the whole time. It was empty in Hawkwing's day when the population crisis wasn't anywhere near what it is now, and it's good enough land for the Ogier to work.

No questions. Not now. No explanations. Not ever. But a small voice taunted him. But you would have done it, wouldn’t you?

I'm trying so hard to not be unfair to Perrin, so let's just leave things at "Dude obviously cracked under the stress of their situation", but like... Jeez bro. It's a fucked up thing to think, even under the stress.

Artur Paendrag Tanreall, Artur Hawkwing, the High King, united all the lands from the Great Blight to the Sea of Storms, from the Aryth Ocean to the Aiel Waste, and even some beyond the Waste. He even sent armies the other side of the Aryth Ocean. The stories say he ruled the whole world, but what he really did rule was enough for any man outside of a story.

Is this another story having grown in the telling or early installment weirdness? In the established canon, the fleet that Artur sent to Shara never accomplished anything, which is really the more sensible outcome of a naval assault on an incredibly defensive nation. But it's been a thousand years and Shara's such a mystery that people definitely could believe it. I'm just not sure if Jordan believed it at the time too.

TBWF Reread Ch0

Here it is, the start of my reread of the The Boy Who Fell, with analysis and an accompanying drawing or sketch each chapter. I'm doing this as a combination of a few things I want to do, namely reread TBWF and get better at art.

Not sure how I want to order this in the future, for now I'll do art first and then analysis.

Chapter 0 is fairly short so I don't have much to say. The striking solid red cover does a great job establishing the tone and prevents readers from getting the wrong impression from the majority of chapter 0 before Ren is pulled off the roof. Even while the basic school plot is happening, the reader wonders what that chapter cover was about and what the deal is with the ominous past tense narration.

It's interesting seeing Yuu's characterization here. You don't learn a ton about him in this one short chapter, but he's definitely different to how his characterization is later solidified in Springtime of Yuuth. Visually different as well, not just in art style which obviously shifted over time but in terms of body language and posing as well.

Ren's characterization is very nicely introduced here. Throughout the chapter, the narration in Ren's voice is going back through the events that transpired and trying to think over what he could have done differently. The nervous self-doubt is mixed with self deprecation, as Ren states that he is "simply bad luck". Ren stating that "Yuu had nothing to do with it" and that it was just his own bad luck shows him solely blaming himself for negative occurrences that are—though not entirely out of his control—decidedly influenced by other factors; this stays true of his character up to late in the series, where he finally starts to accept that the things he was pushed to do are proof that he is a victim too, not that he has committed unforgiveable acts. This isn't to say that Yuu is at fault here; the roof edge was precarious, but an eldritch tendril from hell pulling Ren off is the problem, Ren would not have fallen otherwise. This is just an early indication of a larger part of his character. Ren is also shown to be someone with little to no social connections and a pushover when it comes to someone with more self confidence than him, other aspects of his character that are relevant early on though not as long lived as his self-deprecating blame.

My favorite panel of the chapter is the last one on page twelve. The composition is very striking, with the directly top down view as Ren is being pulled off the roof and is now parallel to the ground facing up at the sky. This wonderfully recontextualizes the very first page, the only color page of the chapter, which is devoted to a full view of the sky. Though not the exact view Ren would see when falling, page two (as the copyright notice is technically page one) definitely conveys a different tone with the context of how the chapter ends. Page twelve is also the best view of Ren in the chapter, providing a full body depiction. This is the moment when you see Ren in the most detail in chapter 0: right as everything goes to hell.

My Art

I was definitely overambitious here for my first time ever drawing a scene in a digital art program. The perspective proved to just be too tricky, so Ren and Yuu's sizes don't quite match up; Ren in particular has a massively wide chest, strange proportions I was not intending. I wanted to try and shade things with screentone to replicate somewhat the look of the comic earlier on, but I didn't actually reference and see how star tended to use screentone so it's not quite the same. Overall though, I think I had a good concept for the piece and that the composition is fine even if the anatomy and proportions are all out of wack. There are things I decided to not go back and fix because I don't want to strive for perfection on every piece; I feel like I'm more likely to improve faster if I keep making new pieces rather than tweaking one until I'm absolutely satisfied with it. Real missed opportunity though to just make the sun the sun, I realized afterwards it would have been really cool to have made it the Hell Kitchen logo.

I gained a lot more familiarity with shortcuts and navigating layers, so it's nice to already have noticeable improvement even just from when I started this drawing to when I finished.

Non-sexual thing that always makes the muse melt?

People often assume that Peter is just a sexual kind of person, meaning there’s not much else that can get to him, but… the truth is, that’s at least as much overcompensating as it is genuine feelings. He will get very weak if his S/O holds him close, without any ulterior motive. Even though he’s perfectly fine and willing to have sex most of the time, cuddling or being held without sex is almost like a shock to him. Do they really not need or want sex to be happy with him? That’s the only way he can keep them happy, isn’t it, because there’s nothing else about him they’d want? His mind takes him to bad places sometimes, convinced that sex is… the only reason anyone would stay with him. That if he or they don’t want it any particular night, they’ll get bored of him. To be held gently, having his S/O not want anything but his body beside them, it’s a much-needed reminder. They chose him. They want him. All of him, not just momentary pleasure. That someone wants to lie next to him at night, that they keep choosing him, makes him fall apart in a way he desperately needs to fall apart.

What’s the best way to calm down your muse when they’re angry?

Is it even possible to calm him down when he’s pissed…? Angry is pretty much his default state of being, unfortunately. The best his partner can hope for is that his anger is at a low buzz instead of a deafening roar on any given day. Though he might eventually get better with this, he really is just someone who’s prone to anger issues. What usually works most effectively when he starts to get angry enough that he might start yelling or threatening is a gentle touch somewhere. A hand on his shoulder is typically the gesture to go to. Something about it brings him back to the moment and reminds him to think about whether his anger is proportionate and necessary. Most of the time, if his S/O gives him that hand on the shoulder, he slowly deflates and turns toward them, and away from the object of his ire, hopefully prepared to ignore things from there on out.

Does your muse want to have kids? If so, how many and what’s the reasoning behind the number?

He’s not… sure he wants children of his own. For one thing, given whatever medical condition he and his sister have, he’s not even for sure that he’s capable of having biological children. To put it mildly, he’d be awfully surprised if he ended up getting someone pregnant. As for adopting or anything like that… he really just doesn’t know. It’s not something he’s thought much about, so, he’d have to give it more thought if it was ever seriously a possibility. If he decided he might want children, and if his S/O did as well, he’d… prefer to start with one. He’s not for certain that he could keep a plant alive, much less a human being, so until he knows how he’d do with one, he doesn’t want to think about more than that.

Is your muse good with kids? What ages?

On that note, he’s not the best with kids unless he’s performing. Being that he’s spent most of his life being mistaken for a child even once he was an adult, it’s left him with something of a bitterness toward children. He knows it’s not the fault of any children, so he does his best not to let it show when he’s interacting with kids. Although he likes being able to talk to children, and hold them or such for a short time, he doesn’t really think he’s good with them even outside of his bitterness. He swears frequently, he’s physically not strong so he can’t control them if they try to run off or something, and also… well… no way to sugarcoat it, most children think he’s another child, meaning he has exactly zero authority with kids. Still, he’s not bad for short bursts!

Do dirty jokes go over their head, or are they the one making the dirty jokes?

Oh, he is definitely the one telling the dirty jokes! Not only does he overcompensate, the man is filthy, even when it comes to his taste in humor. He wouldn’t repeat these things in polite company since he still has some manners, but he’s got an arsenal of jokes that would make everyone in a room blush should he tell them to an audience. There’s a particular one he tells whose punchline is Prop-a-gate, and he’s practically in stitches before he even gets to the end of it every single time.

I just read your thing about your WIP with the aro character and it literally sounds so amazing please tell me more

omg yes yes okay thank u sm here is a big ramble below the cut!!!!! cw for emotionally abusive family members.

okay SO!! the book has two main characters, brian (he/him, aroace) and xeno (they/them, non-SAM aro). they became roommates in their junior year of college through chance. they are both autistic (and brian has adhd), but brian tends to be hyposensitive (needs more stimulation) and xeno tends to be hypersensitive (needs less stimulation) and i think possibly brian didn't know he was autistic at this point, so for a while they had lots of clashes through their sensory needs being so unaligned, and not properly thinking to communicate about it. xeno could not stand brian for probably the first five or six months they knew each other.

but at about the six month point, the two of them started to figure things out, and they also found out that they were both aro (they'd each known, but hadn't told each other) (brian came into xeno's room for the first time (they are a very private person and did not allow him in before), saw their aro flag on the wall, and went "!!!!!!!!!!!" about it). so there was a little bit of awkward transition as they started to figure out how to coexist in a way that met both of their needs, and then they started to get along much better, to the point where they decided to stay roommates for their senior year.

over the course of that year, they grew much much closer, and ultimately entered into a qpr with each other. they continued living together after they graduated. the novel starts midway through the first year after they graduated college, so they're both 23-24.

now!! here is where things get interesting. brian is a wizard, and comes from a whole magical family. but his family is mmmm extremely Not Good. they dedicate themselves to saving the world from monsters (there's a lot more technicality/worldbuilding around this, it's a lot more complicated than that, but that's the tl;dr of it). but the thing is, if you are constantly fighting monsters, sometimes you don't win. and if the monsters want to end the world, not winning is not an option. so the family really prioritizes having Lots of family members, so that there is always enough backup that someone dying won't meant the world ends. but this results in the mindset that any individual family member is expendable. it is a very toxic and traumatizing environment to grow up in; there's a lot of strict hierarchy going on, and a lot of prescribed roles people are expected to fill, and deviating from those roles is heavily frowned upon.

brian is kid number 4 of 9 in his own lineup of siblings, and has a ton of cousins. he wound up taking on the role of peacekeeper in his immediate family. he had to do a lot of managing the emotions of his older siblings and parents, and a lot of parenting his younger siblings, all while neglecting his own needs. so he is a very sweet boy, very attentive to the needs of others, and very good at ignoring his own needs. he has 0 self esteem and does not believe he matters at all, but is really good at hiding it.

he came out to his family as aroace when he was a freshman in college; he'd known for a while, but hadn't told anyone. the reason he decided to come out is that he didn't feel comfortable with the idea of bringing a partner or children into the family, when the family business is so dangerous, because if anything were ever to happen to them he'd consider it his fault. he loves children very much and would love to be a parent, but he doesn't think it is possible for him to do that, because he's unwilling to let his children be part of the family business, and doesn't believe it is possible to cut his family off when he's so used to being controlled by them. and so, even though his reasons for not wanting kids or a partner had nothing to do with his being aroace, he used coming out as an "excuse" for why he wasn't comfortable with that, rather than tell his family the truth about why he won't have kids.

now, the thing is, from brian's behavior, most people tend to assume he's gay, which he has very mixed feelings about. but his family are among the people who assumed he's gay. they were perfectly ready to be supportive of that when he came out, but they were taken off guard by his being aroace, and by his announcement about his intention not to have kids when that's such a big value in the family. so brian was put in a state of semi-disownment where his family refused to talk to him and forbade him from contacting his younger siblings (which he was very crushed over).

xeno, on the other hand, had a really nice childhood in a well-adjusted family that was supportive of their gender and their aroness and their autism. they have two moms, and two siblings, one older and one younger (i forget what the genders of the siblings are, but i do have it written down somewhere). at least one of their moms, possibly both, is/are (a) lawyer(s) (this will be important towards the end of the story). their moms also have like. intimidating scary goth x nonthreatening-but-actually-equally-as-dangerous bubblegum pink vibes. it's great.

xeno majored in accounting in college (which will also be important towards the end of the story), and wants to go into accountancy, but currently they work at the local library. i think they probably have a special interest in math (which means i have to do research about math to write them well, rip me lol) (they probably also have a little bit of shame/internalized ableism going on about it, all "oh i have such a stereotypical SpIn, im a bad autistic" </3 but they've been working on working through that for a while now, and it's much better than it was in for example high school). they have alexithymia and really struggle with projecting the socially appropriate emotions for a given social situation.

so that's how things stand going into the opening of the novel, when brian's family decide that it's time to bring brian back into the fold. his two oldest siblings, marlena and garrett (marlena is in line to become the matriarch of the family, garrett is her second in command, they are both very manipulative people) show up to get brian's help with defeating the latest threat to the world (which is, again, an oversimplification, there's a ton of worldbuilding around what they're actually trying to do, but that's the gist of what they're doing).

brian desperately tries to get them to leave before xeno comes home by agreeing to their every demand, but he isn't fast enough and xeno arrives while marlena and garrett are still there. now, xeno has picked up, from things brian has let slip in the past, that his family is Not Great and Probably Emotionally Abusive, so they immediately go into fighting mode to protect brian.

marlena, meanwhile, notices right away how close brian and xeno are. she doesn't really understand what a qpr is, but she does process that xeno is very important to brian and he would clearly do pretty much anything to keep them safe. so in her mind, xeno immediately becomes a target (which is what brian was afraid of and why he wanted her to leave before xeno got home), the idea being that if she can convince xeno to go along with what she wants and join the family business, brian will follow, and she'll have full control over him again like she was used to growing up. the problem with that plan being that xeno is extremely stubborn and strongly distrusts magic and has also already decided that they hate marlena's guts, so. convincing them to join the family is Not Going To Happen.

marlena and garrett want brian to come with them, and xeno is unwilling to let brian go anywhere with his family, but brian feels like he Has To go. marlena proposes that xeno can come along. brian is adamantly opposed to this idea, wanting to keep xeno away from his family for their own safety, but he won't defy his family enough to not go with them. and xeno also doesn't want to go, but isn't willing to leave brian, so they agree to come along.

after a stop at brian's family home to pick up some magic supplies as well as his younger sibling arlo (they/them), who is just old enough to begin going on these types of quests, they begin basically a Magical Road Trip. wherein xeno has their distrust of magic challenged, brian has his belief that he must obey his family challenged, and a whole lot of fun and interesting spoiler-y stuff happens in the effort to Save The World, from a threat it turns out the likes of which have not been seen in living memory.

i am currently almost done with the plotting stage for this story, and then i plan to write it, edit it, and start looking for an agent!! i have been writing (mostly fantasy novels) for almost nine years now, and i think between the amount i've developed my writing skills, the hook for the story, and my level of investment in this story, i'm ready to try and get published. so. the goal is for this to be an actual real book that people can buy, sometime within the next few years. we'll see how it goes!!

-ABILITIES:

Werewolf, recently started transforming into a large wolf with dark gray fur when confronted with survival situations of high adrenaline or stress. He currently is unaware of what is happening and does not remember his time as a wolf, or refuses to remember. A full moon, this is a time of unavoidable transformation where the wolf is strongest. The wolf then searches the forest for prey, for those unwise enough to tempt fate under the dark twisting branches as the light of the full moon sends splinters of light onto the blood soaked mossy ground at its paws. When he transforms the wolf eats its way out of his insides as it shreds the muscles and skin of his body away from the inside to free itself from the human prison. The wolf is larger than most men, stronger and faster than most wolves, and possesses an intelligence more cunning than both.

-LIMITATIONS:

No control over changing or what he does while in that form as he is still newly changed since moving to Babylon. Under great stress leads to the wolf taking over. No memory of what happens when in this form leaving him with no explanation for the blood on him or the strange places he wakes up in. Has emotional problems and deals with them by working too much or partying too much. Meaning waking up in strange places isn’t exactly unheard of. Impulsive decision making and a little easily manipulated by affection.

-PERSONALITY: He’s smart, he‘s jaded, and he’s a bit beaten down by both. He tries to do good and help people when he can, to a fault. While acting like he doesn’t give a damn and kinda being a dick. Tries to not let people get close because he’s not worth it. Very haunted by his parents death and the things he saw in the police departments.

-BACKGROUND:

- Even as a child you understand that you’re living in poverty. You hear your parents fighting about money. You see that your things are cheap and broken. You see that you don’t get a lot and when you ask for something you get told no so many times you stop asking for things.

- As you get older you grow into a man's body, you go to school and they call your parents in to say you have anger issues. Your dad has an idea to help you channel that anger with fights. So what if he pushes you hard, he has money riding on it after all.

- Your dad wants you to be a cop so you can do some good with your life. Unlike him. You’re an adult now so you have adult responsibility helping your family make ends meet and he still needs you in those fights sometimes. So much money for this fight, and you just can’t win it this time. Apparently your dad made a big bet with people who don’t have a lot of patience if you can’t pay up. You come back home to find a mess of your parents' bodies. A message left in pools of blood to anyone considering not paying up on their lost bets. Message received.

- Years spent trudging through the ranks and jumping through hoops to make your way to being a detective. Following your dad’s hopes for you to make something of yourself. All to just see that you can’t make a real difference when you’re pushing through corruption. You decide to transfer out of the city filled with crooked cops and go to a small town to do actual help. Or maybe you’re told you’ve been transferred for making a big scene about corruption.

- It’s a small town with small crime typically, but also where a cop can do good for someone in need. It’s been five years of actually helping people and making a small difference. It gets boring sometimes, but you try hard to stay busy. It’s on a case that you're looking into when you find yourself in strange situations you can’t quite explain. A wolf acting unusual, seeming to try to get you to leave an area you're investigating and attacks you as a last resort and you have to go get medical attention. You get real sick from this but you eventually heal up and get back to work, wondering the whole time about what that wolf was keeping you from. You eventually go back to see but there’s nothing there anymore. So that’s another case without a satisfying answer.

I think Ballas from Warframe fits the bill!

Spoilers for Warframe (basically the entire game through New War), TW for emotional abuse and mentions of violence against children

This absolutely terrible awful man creates sooo many problems just because he REALLY misses his ex-wife. Who he killed because she wanted to not murder the children aboard the Zeroman 10-0. He torments his Ex's adopted children, manipulates a completely unrelated woman, Natah, into being a copy of his ex-wife, and then rats out his entire society to her dad (who is a massive evil robot) when she breaks up with him over the emotional abuse. Aside from that, he also forcibly mutated some random guy into a mute war machine and then forced that guy to kill his own family. And that's just the cliff notes of the backstory, we haven't even gotten to the actual events of the game yet!

Ballas first shows up to ''''''convince''''''' the player character's mother figure, The Lotus/Natah (it's a very long story), into going back to her shitty biological family. In reality, he manipulated and kidnapped her, but the player didn't realize this because of his gaslighting. The next time he shows up is after the player reconstructed Excalibur Umbra (the guy who had to kill his own son) where he gets way too cocky that the Tenno won't kill him. They do, specifically by giving Umbra the will he needs to impale him. Now, if Ballas was respectable, he'd die here, but instead, The Lotus/Natah shows up and gets him medical attention.

the next few cinematics are dubiously canon due to retcons, but what can be picked out is that The Lotus/Natah has been coming to her senses and has been avoiding him. Her brother, Erra, supposedly took over looking after him, but he's easily manipulated and is basically Ballas' cool little murder pet (It can be interpreted that part of why Erra was so easily manipulated was because he has a crush on Ballas that Ballas is using to his advantage, but Erra is also just kinda a pushover). At some point, Hunhow (Erra and Natah's father) starts to realize that Ballas' gross gaslighting and manipulation reflect how Hunhow treated his children, and Hunhow drops all contact with the murder robot forces, leaving Erra (and by extension Ballas) to inflict wanton damage and destruction.

With Hunhow's loose moral code out of the picture, Ballas starts turning Natah into a living battery so that she's weak enough for him to properly manipulate her. He convinces Erra that it's for the best, and also starts taking over the Origin system with freaky mind-control masks. He forms Narmer, an empire based on mind control and a likely butchered version of the murder-robot's religion. When the player comes to rescue Natah, he decides that now is the time to enact his sick sense of 'revenge' (that, might I remind you, is actually against a different woman that Natah NEVER EVEN KNEW) by making her watch him impale her adopted child before tossing them both into the Void.

luckily, an alternate version of the player character (there are alternate timelines in this game but that's unrelated) saves Natah from death and nurses her back to health. However, before she's fully recovered, Natah goes on a trama-fulled murder attempt, meeting Ballas on the mothership and attempting to kill him. It doesn't work, as Ballas gaslights and berates her into submission again, but the player character is here to remind Natah that hey, she really doesn't deserve to be treated like this, and also she ISN'T that woman that he killed and undefined amount of time ago! Finally, Natah is able to overcome his abuse and chuck his ass into the sun. during this scene, it's also revealed that he's going to use the sun to power a trip to the Tau Centi system and he somehow spins the imminent destruction of the sun (and therefore all life in Origin) into Natah's fault. This man is nasty.

I hope this is the sort of awful blorbo you are looking for! Some of this is my personal interpretation of the game, but I swear the rest is canon and happens in-game.
