Sorry but I love the idea of Durge killing and enjoying it in a form of 'control' thing so I'll talk about it.
Cuz let's be real, Durge was puppeteered around their entire life, all major events were orchestrated by daddy dearest, so when they find something that they can do, they can do well and it even makes them feel great they completely bloom into it. Kill to regain control of oneself kinda but also controlling the life or death of someone in form of vivisections and all that is an almost godlike level of control.
Like yeah sure, the sacrifice dedicated to father, but also to themselves, because they could choose who and how and even that is a marked improvement to 'wake up and everybody's dead also dad has some very fucked up ideas of what we gonna do in your free time'.
It also serves as an 'explanation' why they view Gortash in a different light compared to Ketheric, Orin or Sarevok. Cuz Gortash is control incarnate, there's not even a loose strand of hair on that man. He's essentially a fucked up version of an idol for Durge, embodying the control they want.

Actually the murder is a control bit for Elli.
The vivisections though? They're just for fun.
The cannibalism is just him looking out for the environment. Why waste resources when they're already scarce?
Banging the tyrant? Well, is he not allowed to have deep, profound relationships with his father's rival, whom he just so happens to fuck (around) with?

Back on my Elf BS cuz it's just driving me insane.
Elven lore was pretty much entirely retconned in 5e.
Originally they did mature slower, grew up slower, they actually had these differences, with each new edition they made them less significant until they eventually revamped the entire thing in 5e.
Now elves grow up at the same rate as humans and are generally speaking really just treated like slightly fancier humans with pointy ears in human society, in elven society they're still somewhat similar to the OG elves but there too they changed it so elves r essentially what you'd consider an adult at 20.
Long story short; they made them very fuckable and the whole maturity bit is now explained by 'oh actually elves are reincarnators'
Which, well, cool flavour, gives them some uniqueness back, except NOW THERES A FINITE/LIMITED AMOUNT OF SOULS.
Which is a massive issue when you consider Drow and Half Elves exist. Where do their souls come from? They're not elven souls anymore. The OG Drows may have been but Drows don't reincarnate, Lolth keeps their souls, so where the fuck is she getting new ones for new Drow? Does she steal them? They're certainly not soulless, I mean they aren't undead, so what the fuck is going on there? And half elves? How do they work? Do they generally all get human souls cuz no elven ones are left to spare? What if an elf looses their soul cuz of undeath or smth? Does it just vanish? Do they reincarnate regardless? Is it sufficient if the soul 'dies' for that to happen?
Yeh sure explained the low birth rate, but buddy this sparked so many more questions.

Past Life Dark Urge Asks - 8th Edition:
The Patriars, what does Durge think of them? Do they share the same mindset as Gortash or do they maybe like some of the messed up stuff the patriars did?
Durge was around when Elturel was dragged into Avernus, what did Durge think of these events? Were they maybe even personally affected by the aftermath?
Did Durge ever believe in a deity that wasn't Bhaal? Which one?
Gortash wanted to ascend as God himself, and he wanted Durge to join him. But what did Durge think of that plan? We're they on board or did they consider it heresy?
What does Durge think of Bards? Do they like them, despise them, did anything ever happen?
The vampire coven in Baldurs Gate is responsible for a lot of people disappearing. Did Durge take advantage of it and blame some of their murders on them? Did they dislike them?
Children; a great source of joy, perhaps annoyance, and certainly nutrition. But what exactly was your Durge's opinion on them besides being a great snack?
Spelljammers are a beloved mode of transportation on Toril, both for military and cargo means. Did Durge ever board one of these vessels, and what did they think? Or did the sole idea of getting close to something like that terrify them?
Generally speaking, if Durge needed to travel, how would they go about it? By foot or horse, or did they have a familiar to use?
Describe them with 1 quote, it can be anything you like but give me their whole being in a nutshell.

So apparently it's normal to want your favourite characters to have the bestest most perfect fluffiest of them all happy ending.
Anyway, I'm currently debating how I'd pull off that 1 Scanlan/Grog/Vax scene but make it durgetash. Specifically, that one Scene where Travis displayed so bloody brilliantly what an excellent actor he is. If you know, you know- not gonna spoil cr here

ALSO, Irenicus, at least for those that like elves, is a very neat character study and tells you a lot about their lore. And that man was BITTER. Also low-key seems like inspiration for the elf and half elf. Though tbf Bodhi seems to be a massive inspiration for Astarion. The whole vampirism to forcefully prolong your own life bit.
Anyway, here's his story in a nutshell; tried to become as powerful as the Seldarine (elven gods) fucked up and was subsequently cast out of what's essentially the entire race. Most powerful elven spellcaster turned exile cuz he tried to fuck with the source of the elves' life essence.
Now, cursed with a regular mortals life span and what is referred to as senility (his mind was essentially wiped) he and his 'sister' and Co conspirator went absolutely batshit insane trying to somehow 'fix' their mess and still attain godhood. Bodhi essentially became an extra mad vampire spawn and Irenicus (successfully) became a fake Bhaalspawn by stealing a bunch of Bhaalspawn's essences. Also torturing them cuz yay fun.
Of course, like all good villains, he too was married at some point. Until a sorceress just about as mad as he himself killed his wife and waited for him to love her instead. Some things he fucked up but other things people fucked up for him. Balanced.
Well at least until he was killed in an all out war (he allied with a dragon too btw), his essence was transported to Bhaals realm, he fought with Abdel and managed to turn into the Slayer himself, but was eventually defeated with whatever was left of him cast to a different plane where fiends made snacktime of him.
To quote one of the most bitter men in Faer没n history; "I have tried to recreate it, tried to spark it anew in my memory, but it is gone...a hollow, dead thing. For years I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. And then nothing鈥搕he Seldarine took that from me too."
Elves are wildly fucked up, btw. At least in FR lore, they're not the elegant benevolent beings they're often viewed as. They're majorly fucked up and the reason for multiple apocalyptic events. I love elves. (Also the Starym house which name I borrowed was fucked up as well. They own a magic sword that turns people irrevocably mad.)

I'm sorry I usually refuse to touch the Astarion fandom for reasons but, this is about elves. Elves are my bit. So let me just-
Elven sense of maturity is not the same as what humans consider mature. They're different races. They don't work the same way, duh
For elves maturity is a wholly spiritual thing. Even non mature elves will start training in whatever field they've chosen for themselves as soon as they're tall enough to do so, latest in their 2nd or 3rd decade (so with 20 or 30) and work and participate in elven society just like any other mature elf would. The difference between them and mature elves is specifically this
Mature elves will be very protective of them and try to keep them close/won't let them leave the community as the Drawing of the Veil is a deeply traumatic event and oftentimes elves will struggle with depression even decades after it happened if they had no sufficient support system in place
Young elves do not get to receive an adult name before the Drawing of the Veil. Until then, they'll be called by their child name, which is usually a 1 or 2 syllable gender neutral name.
They have access to memories of their past lives/they have a connection to their primordial soul. This connection is meant to teach them about life and not to repeat the same mistakes. This connection is also VITAL for them to learn how to manage their memories, as their brain works the same way that of any other humanoid does, so they need special techniques to manage their memories and retain those that are important
That's it. That's all the differences. Elves, too, even in elven communities, start working with 20 or smth. Just like humans. Cuz, once again, it's a spiritual thing. They're being trusted with weapons and destructive spells.
And most importantly:
This only applies to elves raised in a wholly elven communities. We're talking Evermeet, Hidden Wood Elf Villages or the likes. Not Baldur's Gate or any other human kingdom/city.
Do as the locals do, and elves do precisely that. And no, a family consisting only of elves or being part of a noble house does not count as community either if you're living and being raised in a human kingdom/country/city/village/etc.
The Drawing of the Veil is important to elves, as having ur connection to your past lives severed means you're truly tied to the present from now on and you will not recieve any more guidance, but having this connection does not make you any less of a full grown adult. Also the second Astarion died his connection to his past lives was presumably cut off, as undead generally do not have any ties to their prev lives and that includes the perks that come with it, so he had his Drawing of the Veil. Oh and the age when it happens can be anywhere in their first century. Some may experience it with 99, others with 121. It's a wholly unique thing. Cuz it's not actually some fixed age and 'gz u can drink now', it's a spiritual event.
Btw since they revamped a lot of elven lore in 5e this has become even more of a spiritual bit, as the reason it happens in the first place is due to the curse of reincarnation placed onto them by Corellon and the other Seldarine.
There is also no x elven years = x human years as wilchur said. It's the same. Elves are not dogs. Neither are humans.
I'm writing fics pretty much exclusively using Tel'Quessir MCs. I spent a hot minute researching elves in Faer没n. Their lore is fucked but at least since 5e, which BG3s homebrew is based on, they're very much adults the second they hit 20 latest (depending on local customs, ofc). Monster manual, DM Guide and Handbook all make sure of that. MToF and TCoE only elaborate further.
I鈥檝e decided i don鈥檛 care what people have to say about the stupid lore-ignoring takes people have in the bg3 fandom so i鈥檝e deleted the post lol. Sorry fellas

The desire to point out why Gortash is such an insignificant villain and how his 'villainous' acts are just so utterly tame/straight up community service.
Y'all have no idea how nice that man is, considering he's from Faer没n. Sure he's a villain but like... Compared to actual established villains he looks like a cute lil kid attempting to copy his idols. And failing at it. Horribly. My man why are you like that

Let me be a lore nerd for 5 minutes so you don't need to research and I get to talk about FR lore; Bhaalspawn/the Slayer edition.
Irenicus, the archmage, certified power-hungry maniac, and the guy that tortured several Bhaalspawn in the past for funsies and to become what's essentially a fake Bhaalspawn, noted that anytime a Bhaalspawn uses their 'gift' aka the Slayer, something was taken from them. As in, using the Slayer wasn't just using a god's avatar; it ate away at the sanity and humanity of the Bhaalspawn who used it and actively ruined their already fucked up mental state.
Should this apply to Durge too, this retroactively makes Gortash's comment about Durge not being a monster, or rather his efforts to convince them of that fact, a lot worse. Cuz if he knows anything about Bhaalspawn, which most people do, he should understand what using the Slayer means. And that Durge is actively turning more and more monstrous and less humane anytime they do.
He's not telling a 'monstrous person' they're not a monster. He's saying that to an actual monster.

No but I completely agree. The game itself is nice, personally I'm also a fan of the Faer没n lore in general, but comparing the actual long established lore with whatever the hell is going on in BG3 is like comparing apples and pears. Looks somewhat similar but vastly different lol
Defo not over how they butchered specific Deities or characters. In and of itself the story is cool and all, but the previous games were essentially the Bhaalspawn crisis in real time, while this one is 'Illithid empire, oh and somehow people you could consider Bhaalspawn were involved in that at some point but this is all about the tadpole'
Genuinely scared what that means for BG4 though, cuz Hasbro/WotC already announced they're looking for a new studio and I don't think I'm reaching when I say they're just looking to cash in on the love the current companions get and the series will just continue to derivative from the original Idea. Can't wait for BG4 to introduce the new Dead Three, Gale, Astarion and Vlaazel or smth (maybe they'd switch Minthara with Astarion so the two community sweethearts Shart and Astarion can be on the good side and become recruitable)
Rant aside, valid opinion, good game, my buddy is probably right in saying I should check out the DOS series, but it is not a good BG or just general DnD game. It's a good Larian game, they make great games, but they're better at original rather than fanfiction.
I've never felt more vindicated in my opinion that BG3 is an absolute crap Baldur's Gate game and only works as a Larian game than just now when I saw someone on tiktok say (and I quote)
"BG3 didn't get me into the Baldur's Gate series, it got me interested in Larian Studios' work."
BRUH.
No shade to the commenter because I absolutely get why they feel that way, that is not my issue. I'm just absolutely flabbergasted how you can fumble the "making a sequel" part of your job so bad, people legitimately don't give a shit about the previous installments or where the story might go from there. Maybe that would be understandable if the OG games were bad, but those are literally genere-defining classics???
People who haven't played BG1 and 2, don't play Durge and/or read up on the topic largely don't even know that Baldur's Gate is The Bhaalspawn Series because Larian almost completely stepped away from that in favour of making a self contained DnD original while still keeping the name. I feel like I'm going insane because I can't be the only one who is bothered by it? Right?? Hasn't Hollywood been getting shit for nostalgia bait constantly for the last few years? Yet people say this like it's a good thing, an achievement on Larian's part and a testament to how good the game is. Idk, it just leaves such a sour taste in my mouth.

Making a ref sheet for a gremlin rn (since weeks lmao I pick it up and drop it again)
And atp each part just shows clearly whenever I've picked up a new trick of the hell that is procreate. Also. Halftones? Yeah I get it now. I'm in love. 11/10.
Still salty I haven't found 'nice' (subjective af) alcohol brushes yet but, yk. Actually sitting down and tryna figure out that digital art bit does seem to work out.
Though ngl I feel the overwhelming desire to just sit at my desk and throw some paint at some canvases and make pretty objects or smth. But it's still - degrees in nearly may so it's cold and I feel like rn isn't the time I should stain my hands with dye lol. Doubt that's what you should do b4 an interview.
Edit also not my ass posting on the wrong blog oh well. I'm sleep deprived, is it noticeable?

Ah fuck it. We all know of the theory that Gortash looks and behaves the way he does cuz of grief. But, what if it's not grief? What if it's duty? What if it's guilt but also, dare I say it, affection?
What if the reason he couldn't care less about that grand plan and those horrible ambitions and himself is cuz he's the survivor. Cuz he now has the duty to actually live and not function in his partner's stead?
What if he's trying to rush and put everything to an end simply because his priorities shifted from being a nice little cog in someone else's machine to actually, truly living for the first time because he's still capable of it when others aren't anymore? Others that allowed him to be in that position in the first place? What if it's to honour them, because that was their last wish? What if it's a last desperate act of affection for the person he tried to convince isn't a monster?
They wanted for Gortash to live. At the very least, they wanted for him to live longer than most. So what if he's trying that now that they're gone, and he's cursed with the privilege of being alive? Durges prayer told him to live, so what if he's struggling to do exactly that now? To honour and love whom he's lost, who mattered to him?

Typical breakfast conversation is Gortash fishing out the mornings newspapers and reading the names from the obituary.
Durge just immediately responds: yes, no, no, yes, yes, yes, maybe, to the ones they have & haven鈥檛 killed.
Gortash doesn鈥檛 even need to ask they just do it automatically based off this sort of unhinged energy they have.
