I am not up to date with Law & Order so I don't fully know what is and isn't happening, but I've seen so many people talking about how amazing the slow burn between Elliot and Olivia will be and I get so frustrated. At some point, you have to accept the so called slow burn has been TOO slow. Just having two people know each other for so many years and then having them get together is not a good slow burn.

A slow burn is meant to be a gradual build. You slowly see two people fall more and more in love over time until they finally get together. And maybe this is just me - and I say that honestly because just because I didn't personally see it doesn't mean it wasn't meant to be there - but I never saw a romance between Olivia and Elliot. I always only ever saw them as friends. Strong, powerful friends, sure, but nothing more than that.

And I am so tired of every male and female friendship turning into a romance. Men and women can be friends. Just let them be friends, for pete's sake!

Okay I just woke up into another chaos and I need answers WTH IS GOING ON ARE YOU SERIOUS SVU?? 

I've been crying since I woke up and I'll keep crying for some more time. Did Muncy actually leave? And your reason is that fans hated her?? Fans just started to like her!! Have you seen the hate for churlish? And what will happen to my dear veluncy 😭 I was expecting them to end up together. How could they do this to us? At the end of the day, all the bensler fans are happy... but we'll never get more scenes of our ship again. I'm sooo mad and sad at the same time. Veluncy was the only reason I kept watching svu but now I'm done with it. I didn't even watch the episode. And frankly, I'm not planning to watch it bc I know I'll cry AGAIN. The only thing they care about is bensler... I think bensler was Dick Wolf's tactic to keep fans hooked on the show for years. I thought that the fans would get what they wanted in the season finale and that veluncy would be paved the way. We didn't deserve this ending... I won’t believe it until Molly explains. I want muncy back! I want my veluncy back 🥺

And the terrible things don't stop there. Whelan's dead? Is he really? I can't get over how they write terrible endings to all my favorite characters. Duarte, Whelan and now Muncy... Whelan didn't deserve such an ending and so much hate. Most of the fans have so much hatred for the new characters and don't give them a chance. Then they say they're glad they're leaving and it drives me crazy. I think we would all be happy if a separate series for the bensler and a separate series for the side characters 🫠

What about those deleted scenes? I don't really care about the deleted scenes after Muncy's departure and Whelan's death, but they deleted the scene with Velasco working with Reyes. Everything I was excited about about this crossover has turned out so badly. Looks like I will keep crying for a while 🤧 Depression mode: on.

I just want to wake up again and see that it was all a nightmare. I’ll never be ready to watch these episodes. Unless Muncy comes back next season saying "hey I'm back", I won't be in a good mood. What will Velasco do without her? She was the only one who really trusted and loved him. As he said, Muncy was his “only real friend”.

I’m also sad about Jet and Jamie… they could make a cute couple 🥺 There might be an open door for Muncy but Whelan is gone forever now. I still don’t want to believe. He was baby Stabler. My tears will become a fountain when I watch the scene he dies (if I can watch it) Svu writers are really good at ruining good things…

I’m starting to see these comments pop up about Sprina being seen as a childish couple because they aren’t bumping and grinding all over the place like they have Jex doing. This is what happens when comparisons are made. I’m new to soaps so is it unheard of to slowly build towards intimacy because the couple is young and hot. I’m a longtime Bensler sufferer so maybe I don’t get this need to call them childish because they haven’t had sex yet

It's funny to hear that some people consider Trina and Spencer "childish" because all I was thinking about today is how the only way they can make a friendship between them and Joss work these days is to regress them like all the recent life experiences they've been through haven't happened.

Anyways, Trina and Spencer are following the more old school formula of building up intimacy. This is how it was with the supercouples of the 80s and 90s and it's also how it was when I was watching in the 2000s. The rush to sex and burn fast type of writing is more a modern soap thing. It's about "aren't these two people pretty?" and not much else because they don't have faith in keeping the audience's attention for long.

Trina and Spencer are always building toward something because they're popular and the show is aware that their milestones are "events" that can be milked for ratings. If they did it successfully with the first kiss, they have all the incentive in the world to do the same with their first time. I don't get the comparisons because Trina and Spencer are a fundamentally different story from Joss and Dex and always have been.

But I won't blame the fans solely for falling for that trap of comparison anymore because I've seen enough instances of the writing trying to force a parallel between the two pairings that doesn't fit. It's something they're doing because they rushed Joss and Dex in hopes that aesthetic and sex alone would be enough to make them compelling. It did not. It turns out people do actually need some type of depth of character to cling to, which neither really has. So now they're trying to gaslight the audience into seeing them as just like Trina and Spencer because that's the story that they actually did successfully.

Trina and Spencer, when they're alone are far from childish. They're being given classic soap couple writing with the banter and the depth of connection. The type of couple writing that made a lot of GH pairings memorable. The problem is they're never alone. The writers' room is too aware of how popular they are, and they're using their scenes to push agendas instead of telling their story. I think that's what people who are frustrated are actually responding to.

Trina and Spencer, if anything, are suffering from growing up too quickly. A lot of their relationship is stalled more than it needs to be because they're both written to be carrying the burdens of others at expense to themselves.

I have been thinking about the eo/thg AU and something that you did that I think is SO SMART is you incorporated the Bensler with the Chriska

Like for the first 12 seasons half of what carried svu so long was the will they/won’t they between Elliot and Olivia and chriska for years dealt with the interview questions in the public about it and are they a couple in real life (despite the fact that they’re both married!) and like that connection was so strong it brought Chris back and now again they’re still getting those questions and we as viewers are still SO invested in EO because they’re so compelling!

It’s almost like the media/fandom in this AU is the capitol citizens and the Network that can cancel the show or not is the capitol who has the power to kill Elliot or Olivia at any time if they don’t keep up the ruse

(This sounded much more articulate in my head but I’m not the best at writing my thoughts down lol) anyways I’m so impressed by the nuance you were able to achieve in the first installment of it and I’m very much looking forward to what’s in store! You are a mad genius! 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

To be clear, I love the Concept of Chriska and follow their every move like everyone else, I take a very live and let live approach to shipping, including rpf, as long as folks aren't shoving it into the actors' faces (or their families'). But I do think it's important to consider how it would feel to have your relationship be subject to such intense public scrutiny, to have it tied up in the stability of your career, to have to listen to people speculate about something so personal (bc as much as I firmly believe fans shouldn't subject actors to rpf thoughts it absolutely happens, all the time).

And the thing is in thg the citizens who watch the games are us. In this fic I'm obviously not trying to make the same level of social commentary as in the original work but it'd be disrespectful imo to ignore it altogether. So the point of putting the Chriska in is to encourage some consideration of the toll it takes on people to constantly have to police their public behavior to match an invented persona while trying to protect their private selves.

So in this fic I'm doing what I often do in aus, one of the things I like best about aus, which is to take an existing theme/structure that underlies the story and blow it up in this far fetched scenario that really lets us examine the nitty gritty of it. In monsters the daemons speak for eo, say the things they're feeling but can't acknowledge openly. In instinct we dug into how eo both feel there's something fundamentally Wrong inside them, and how they absolve one another of those perceived sins. And in vv we're looking at how the public vs private of EO's (and Chriska's) relationship creates this tension where they can only be Real with each other. It's fun! Lol

Hi!! Nice to meet another Zibell fan and fic writer! I have to admit that my time on Tumblr is a bit sporadic (real life is way too busy), but I'm always glad to talk about Zibell and writing fic for them. I've written a lot of romantic fic for them, but I definitely enjoy the platonic friendship on screen, so I could really go either way with them. Do you ship them romantically at all or just platonically? Any favorite moments?

[Disclaimer: I am only on S3 of the show, so some of my comments might not be (as) applicable anymore. Also, there might be some prime Zibell moments from S4 and S5 that I don’t mention when talking about my favourites because I haven’t seen them yet. Sorry!]

I could go either way with them too! I read (and write…maybe… 👀) romantic fanfic for them, and I’m definitely on the lookout for budding feelings between them when I watch the show. However, when it comes to their canon relationship atm, I only ship them in the sense of “I’m rooting for them”, not in the sense of “I want them to be together”. It’s like you said on another post: I’d like their professional dynamic and platonic intimacy to develop some more before they drop any romantic ILYs (I’d be down for some platonic ones though; tv needs more of those!) or passionate embraces. I think there are some things they can discover about each other more meaningfully (to me) if they aren’t in an exclusive, committed relationship when they learn them.

(I answer the rest of your question below the cut, but it’s looong so be warned lol.)

Like, some things are kind of expected to be shared when you’re dating someone, and the idea of Maggie and OA sharing those things with each other just because they want to instead—just because they feel comfortable turning to each other before any friend or family member or even side character love interest, even though on paper they’re simply colleagues!—is really quite special to me. For example, when OA shows up at Maggie’s place and confides in her: his seeking her out means more in my eyes because, traditionally, he’d be expected to disclose what’s troubling him about his past if Maggie were a romantic partner, but not when she is merely a professional one—at least, not the details, not in such a personal setting, not when their job is already done. Plus, the fact that they don’t always share these kinds of things with each other (e.g., Maggie doesn’t tell OA that she suspects Erin has relapsed and that she is making the big decision to help her move back to a rehab centre) suggests that they aren’t yet at a place to let each other in so completely. That being said, I don’t want to suffer through another Bensler torture method! There is a difference between a tasteful slow burn and a fourth-degree scorch, Dick Wolf! And it’s not just the length of it, either, but the pacing! I could last twenty-four seasons of romantic tension between Zibell as long as it’s not a dragged-along, low-key out-of-character romantic tension, y’know?!

[deep breath] Sorry. Where was I? Right, I ship them platonically and would like them to get a happy ending together romantically at some point, but that should be a decent way off imo. On the show, at least. I’m an impatient, lovesick twat and will absolutely peddle and plead for romantic art, fic, and edits on Tumblr, YouTube, and AO3. :)

As for favourite moments… If you mean scenes that won points for their relationship in my book, I would say any where there was a Thing they had to talk about but were resisting until the crucial instant where they chose to let down their walls to the other. So when a case directly hits close to home, when something personal is bothering them and affecting their job, when the two of them are disagreeing and need to get on the same page… Those moments. Those conversations. I live for those small, subtle relationship development milestones! Also, anytime they back each other up. I’ve said this before, but when one of them gets snarky and the other smirks to themself, or when one of them successfully captures a person of interest and the other smiles in gratitude/pride, or when one of them seconds the other’s hunch against the rest of the JOC… I also live for those small, subtle signs of a healthy, stable foundation, ’cause that’s what any future romance—if there will be any—will be laid upon, y’know?

Now, if you’d prefer my list of scenes that I obsessively re-watch for the Drama and Feels, I can definitely be more precise. ;P

1x01 (their banter about OA’s arachnophobia and drawing; Maggie struggles with Emmett’s death and OA reassures her that her evac order was the right move; when OA goes to take down Bernardo and Maggie runs after him, their conversation was hilarious; their side whispering like the person they’re discussing isn’t right there; OA brings up Maggie’s husband and she shuts him out but also thanks him! OA and Maggie smiling at each other after the case; “All you need is a ride?” “For now”)

I grew up watching original Law and Order with my parents. Started watching Law and order SVU S1E1 Mariska as Olivia was my favorite character for over 10yrs, I came to Love Raul Esparza as Barba, I know a few people that became Lawyers because his amazing character!!!! When he left half my heart went with him, I've lagged behind by half to a full season since but kept watching hoping that Kelli Giddish's and Peter Scanovino's characters would eventually get together! They finally do it's for in less than two seasons!!! Such a ripoff for us Rollisi fans! I don't know if I'll be watching anymore after season 24. I don't know if this has anything to do with Elliot's return and the cost of Law and order OC, perhaps more focus in the coming season will go to Elliot and Olivia but I'm over the idea of Bensler for a long time. I think Olivia deserves better after everything she's been through. I'm totally biased but would love to see Olivia and Barba together Barson!
