SICKFIC TROPES THAT MAKE ME GUSH

so we all know i love sickfics, they’re my favorite type of fanfictions (hmu if u have recs im desperate). so, in order to make a sickfic catered to my tastes, here is what i want (and tw for mentioned vomiting!) :

first of all, i REALLY love it when a character denies they’re sick and the other character(s) are kind of like but you are though. bonus pts if person a accidentally snaps at b but b is relentless

oh and when i say sickfic, the ones i prefer are LONG oneshots about like a high fever or horrible flu, the more pain the better (is that a bad thing to say)

there is something so tender about a placing a gentle hand on b’s forehead and saying something like “ur burning up”, my personal favorite. bonus pts if b leans into the “cool touch” LIKE UGH

an alternative to the previous one is a kissing b’s forehead and realizing how warm they are

the more detailed a description about a character’s ghastly appearance, the better. i’m talking pale as fuck, feverish blush, sheens of sweat, the works

for some reason, in het ships, i like it better when the man is being taken care of because it shows a weakness they typically wouldn’t show if it goes against their character (thats why how lily stole christmas is my favorite episode of himym)

if we’re being honest, i adore sickfics where its like a father/son relationship (TALKING ABOUT IRONDAD SPECIFICALLY) the dad person taking care of the son person is so sweet

FAINTING. if a character faints, you have me hooked. bonus pts if they get FOUND like hours later and dont faint in front of their caretaker (but thats okay too)

vomiting is permitted. personally, ive only thrown up three times in my life and i dont have emetophobia so it doesnt bother me and tbh i think it makes the fic better

NIGHTMARES. OMG WHEN A IS SHAKING AND CRYING FROM A FEVER DREAM AND B IS LIKE ITS OKAY IM HERE YOURE GONNA BE OKAY JUST *chefs kiss*

this doesnt happen often in sickfics i see, but b watching a sleep? its actually v sweet and romantic

CUDDLING. when a is laying on b’s lap and b is running their fingers through a’s hair UGH

i like when sickfics start in the middle of the night and a is being taken care of in the dead of night

singing of lullabies or sweet songs, very comforting and heartwarming

when a is delirious out of their mind. bonus pts if u get a confession out of it or some sad shit a has been keeping to themselves slips out I THRIVE ON THEIR ANGST AND PAIN

when b finds out that a is sick and carries them to bed bc they cant walk right—something about it just hits different

BREAKFAST OR ANY SORT OF MEAL IN BED— bonus pts if b feeds a jfc im spiraling

if the sickfic ends with a getting better, ALWAYS say something along the lines of “the fever broke” bc for some reason i like that way of describing a fever being gone

appendicitis fics are awesome even though that SHIT HURTS (ive never had it but ive seen that episode of the cartoon madeleine where she got it)

i dont like sickfics where the character is terminally ill because I MAY WANT THEM TO SUFFER BUT NOT ETERNALLY

when b drapes a blanket over a sleepy/cold a like that shit is so fucking adorable—if they give a jacket, thats cool too

when b has to take home a from a date or something cause they’re sick and being a stubborn lil bitch

any sort of touchy-feely stuff in fics will earn a 10

BE DESCRIPTIVE AS POSSIBLE. DESCRIBE A’S CONDITION. DESCRIBE B’S DESPERATE ATTEMPTS TO NURSE THEIR TRUE LOVE TO HEALTH DAMMIT

also make sure a drinks hot tea with honey at some point cause tea is delicious (and better than coffee. no, i will not take that back)

sore throats?? um yes thank you

stomach flu? yes pls

a rough cough?? okay yes i need

descriptions of the eyes are something i usually dont mind not having in sickfics but if they’re there, you get bonus pts. its stuff like “fever bright eyes” or “glassy eyes” or “bloodshot eyes” that i LOVE

make sure a gets a cold icepack or a cold washcloth on their forehead like its tender the way it’ll be placed on a sleeping a’s forehead

a’s refusal to eat bc they are either whiny asf or just cant keep shit down

bonus pts if the reason a is sick is because they were wounded previously and the wound is infected in some way

MAKE THEM DIZZY, i always get dizzy when im sick

i said this already but it needs its own bullet point—make it a long oneshot—like i want a to be sick for like a week or so

the tucking of a into bed or helping a change into comfy clothes

okay i think im done for now, but SICKFICS UGH I LOVE THEM I WISH PEOPLE APPRECIATED THEM MORE. also its the only type of fic i know how to write without sounding horrible. but pls write or recommend sickfics they’re my weakness.

Your parents fawn over her and talk about it as though these are regular school occurrences, but you insist on calling her a freak. Better to lash out than to let on how envious you are.

But then her tone changes about Potter, and one summer she starts bringing him home.

Your breath catches. James Potter is polite—even to you who Lily must have no kind words for (right?)—and you weaken.

He liked to come around when Albus wasn't home. He pretended to be disinterested when he learned Albus was out, but Aberforth knew better. They had been playing this game for months. It was partly what made Aberforth so angry.

But Gellert clicked his tongue at Aberforth before breaking into a smile (no, a smirk—Gellert didn't smile). "So mad, all the time. Honestly, Ab." He rolled his eyes.

"I warned my brother from you, so stop coming around already," Aberforth said from the Dumbledores' stoop.

"Tell me why, then," Gellert provoked, happily invading Aberforth's personal space just once more.

It wasn't fair.

The wedding happened quickly, after Hogwarts. Rodolphus had a wedding ring that tied him to the pull ring from a grenade—yes, he was deemed worthy to marry Bellatrix, but. It wasn't fair.

Bellatrix's eyes never focused on anything except reshaping the world into one for purebloods, a world meant for the Dark Lord. Her eyes never truly drifted Rodolphus' way.

That was why Rodolphus felt neither anger nor disgust when the family learned a few years later that Andromeda eloped with her Muggle-born. Andromeda… Bellatrix-light—someone softer, fairer, someone who wanted a family…

It wasn't fair.

Friday evenings were for Dorcas.

Sundays were for solo studies. Mondays began the week with her thwarting Marauders pranks meant to disrupt everyone's day. Tuesdays she spent in the library, partly attempting coursework while attempting to convince Remus he could make better friends. Wednesdays always turned into girls' nights (Alice's doing? She couldn't recall), and Lily disappeared for Head Girl and Head Boy meetings on Thursdays, so Marlene would give in and get into a little trouble with Sirius then, because James had to attend, too.

But Fridays were for Dorcas and thinking of a future beyond these castle walls.

"What do you think?"

Hannah dropped her Zonko's bar and stared at Susan. She fought a smile and furrowed her brow. "Um…"

Susan sighed and twirled one of her pigtails. "That bad?" She chuckled.

Hannah chuckled, too. "Were you trying to do them up the way I do mine? I'm flattered you like them, but I much prefer your usual pulled-back look." She paused and blushed, as if realizing she'd said too much. "If you like, I can help you untangle those…"

Susan sat for Hannah, but having Hannah's fingers in her hair was much better than looking like her.

236: DominiqueRegulus

Dominique feels lucky to have stumbled across him. She wonders if Regulus feels the same when he catches her eye across the sky as they go for a night flight.

She commiserates with him. Not surviving in secret—she's never been in war. But being in a family is rough; that she knows well enough.

She knows what it's like to have the hopes piled on you.

She knows what it's like to be cast aside when she isn't enough. She feels like an unwanted extra.

Regulus doesn't see her as an extra, though.

Maybe they can be enough, together.

237: LavenderCho

In another life, people wouldn't worry about vanity. Then perhaps Lavender wouldn't be sitting here, hiking her scarf up in uncomfortably warm weather, shielding herself from curious eyes.

It was so hard, even years later, to venture out with such visible scars creeping up her neck to her jawline. But she knew she couldn't lock herself away like some lonely princess…

Besides, she thought with a smirk as Cho spied her in the stands and zoomed over for a quick peck on the lips, this princess had landed herself a Quidditch player in the end. Why care what others think?

238: OliverLouis

Oliver had had his fill of Weasleys. That was why he couldn't like Louis, despite all the fun they had chumming around at every official Quidditch event.

He had loads of good reasons, too! Louis only acted older than Oliver, for one, but they had decades between them. They were on opposing teams—Chudley and Puddlemere. They even belonged to different Houses! And Louis wasn't even all that nice a bloke…

…but that buggering attitude of his was just like a certain uncle's when he was in a snit—and Oliver never had gotten over his soft spot for Percy…

239: FreddieScorpius

You are so used to things blowing up in your face (another thing inherited from your eponym)—on purpose or otherwise—that you freeze when a familiar Slytherin Prefect catches you outside the greenhouses, potion in hand. How dare your twin abandon you in your time of need! (But thank Merlin Roxanne escaped!)

Scorpius barely blinks before the potion slips, sending sparks and a violet plume of smoke up, which coats you both.

You pale.

But it's a pleasant change, that your prank makes the gorgeous Malfoy heir chuckle and turn a delightful, delicious shade of pink as he laughs.

240: GinnyBlaise

Ginny's jokes are for her mates only. It frustrates her that the castle feels cozy in her final year, with a bunch from Harry's cohort being back for an eighth year, so it's hard to escape the familiar faces. Especially in the library.

And it doesn't matter what type of joke or with whom she shares it—Luna, Demelza, Ritchie—Ginny can practically bet on hearing Blaise's snickering in a nearby nook.

But then it clicks, and she approaches him with a smirk. "So you do have a sense of humor, Zabini," she realizes.

His eyes twinkle devilishly in reply.

Why do you think Klance will be canon? I read somewhere you though it was the most logical conclusion, could you outline your thoughts? Or if you already have, could you add a link to your post?

I have written about it before but I’ll put down my new thoughts to include season 6. I’ve never been certain of it, keep in mind, it just always has seemed like an inevitable thing based on every single thing we’ve been told about the show and characters, no matter what angle i’ve looked at it from.

So, here’s what we had been given on romance in the show:

-they were planning a slow burn with all romances

-endgame romances couldn’t really happen with all the space plot stuff going on

-lance’s love interest will be someone lance needs, rather than what he wants, and will get him to a place opposite of where he started. they will be self assured and confident, in order to help HIM be more confident and help him with his insecurity. jeremy shada said that lance would fall in love with someone a little bit and like having one person rather than just going all over the place, and he would mature in all ways.

-when asked in a post-season 2 interview about keith and allura’s development, steven yeun replied “I like playing this mystery of where the romance is. I don’t know where it is. It could be between anybody. That’s the natural evolution of this relationship. Even as a friendship, it has fits and turns and ups and downs. I think this is the beginning of a wonderful, wonderful storyline.”

What we get from this is that all the endgame romances will take massive amounts of time to develop properly, and since they are slowburn, it really can’t be with characters introduced far past the halfway point, cause that’s the opposite of slowburn. we also know that they couldn’t really explore ANY romance that wasn’t relevant to the galra plot. lotura is an exception, because it was literally the foundation of the plot in seasons 5 and 6, so they were able to fully go there. but other possible romances have been inching along at a snail’s pace.

Now, in season 6, allura and lance’s relationship has been getting a LOT of focus. i ship this heavily, but in this season I personally was put off by the way their scenes were written and how they reacted to one another. this isn’t evidence that it’s not going to happen, because these are all my subjective opinions and that’s NOT factual, but if you’re interested in why I feel this way, I’ve written about it a lot in the last few days, just do a search on my blog.

so, my opinions aside, there was a lot of focus on their relationship.

but we can look back and see all those keith/allura scenes in season 2, when everyone was certain THEY were going to end up together. in season 1, people were sure it was going to be allura/shiro, before allura was revealed to be in the teen paladins’ age group. it changes literally every season. this is the most it’s ever been, because lance canonically is in love with her, but it’s still just more of the same.

I’ve said it before, but any and all endgame romance in the show will be limited to keith, lance, and allura. pidge is too young for any of them and hasn’t had a single serious one-on-one interaction with any of them, shiro is too old and is seen as a mentor/brother figure, and hunk is linked to shay. any side character hasn’t had enough development, and it’s too late to properly develop a relationship with a brand new character. so, romances are only possible between those 3 – and we’ve already seen this come into play, what with the ship fodder for their various combinations in every single season. and steven yeun even said it himself - “it could be between anyone.”

now, before season 6, I would have said immediately that it would be keith/lance, because allura doesn’t fit the description of lance’s love interest (and he’s the only character confirmed to have one). he’s wanted her since episode 1, so how could she possibly be not what he wants, but what he needs? however, since season 6, you could also read it as that he’s wanted tons of girls, but he really needs just one. this is where one half of my brain is at right now.

the other half of my brain can’t stop thinking about the lgbt rep.

you can cry “queerbaiting!” all you want, but the fact of the matter is that they wouldn’t be so secretive about it if it weren’t happening and if it weren’t main characters. here’s literally everything that’s ever been said on the subject:

So today I got to meet Jeremy Shada at TBCC. I made him a little doll of his character just like I did for Josh Keaton. I was so nervous but Jeremy was super nice and friendly! He loved the doll thankfully. I asked him about lgbt representation in voltron and his response was “I can’t say, but don’t worry. You’ll be happy.” Just the hope alone makes me happy lol

Shada has also said some things on the subject that were illegally recorded and shouldn’t be repeated, but in short, there IS lgbt rep, it’s between two characters, and it’s apparently such a big deal that it would LITERALLY SPOIL PLOTLINES AND CAN’T BE TALKED ABOUT.

they’ve revealed info about the characters before. they said lance was cuban mere months after season 1 was released, even though that information wouldn’t come up in the show until years later. that could have been considered a spoiler. but no, it didn’t have to do with any actual plotline, so it was easily shared information to make people happy about good rep.

if the lgbt rep weren’t a big deal, they would tell us. they would at least say there’s definitely going to be some. i mean, people ask about it so fucking much, i’m sure they would say what it is if it would get fans to shut up.

and even before there was a fandom, tim hedrick said he would just let it play out as it goes, meaning it’s THERE and he wants people to watch the show and react to it naturally.

something else that i’ve said before – let’s go through the main characters one by one to determine who it could possibly be:

-pidge: has shown no interaction with any girl her age, and the creators have said that “if you want to see her as trans, you can” which is coding, NOT rep. plus, they did that in season 1, and they still won’t talk about the lgbt rep. she’s out.

-shiro: has shown no interaction with any guy his age. i originally thought it would be him and matt, but matt turned out to be younger than him and they haven’t interacted at all since matt came back. a husband back at home wouldn’t be a BIGGGGG SPOILER THAT THEY CAN’T CONFIRM OR DENY. he’s out.

-hunk: linked to shay. out.

-coran: has shown no interaction with any man his age currently. interacted in the past with alfor, but he’s dead, and the lgbt rep is a major plotline that can’t be spoiled. out.

-allura: has shown no interaction with any single girl her age. she interacted with shay, but shay is linked to hunk. unfortunately, i think romelle is too new a character for them to properly develop a relationship between them. out.

-lance: yall know.

-keith: yall know.

LITERALLY who could it possibly be besides keith and lance?? like i said, they wouldn’t be so hush-hush if it weren’t main characters and if it weren’t a huge plotline. i cannot think of a single other option. and anytime anyone’s tried to GIVE me another option, i just immediately disprove it. plus the fact that keith is super insanely self assured and confident now with his additional 2 years, his mom, and his brother safe and sound. he’s exactly what lance needs.

so that’s where the other half of my brain is.

I MEAN i really can’t be sure anymore. if you just go by romance alone it could totally be like allura/lance and keith/romelle or some other terrible het keith ship. or they could go back and rekindle keith/allura and do lance/romelle. but then when you factor in the elusive lgbt rep, there is no other fucking option than keith/lance.

and if one of yall dumbasses comes on this post crying “sh*ith!!” i’ll come to your house and piss on your lawn.

when of if I started shipping it: Leoji didn’t really start being popular until Guang Hong literally imagined himself taking a bullet for Leo, but the first time they were on the screen, my first thought was “omg small boyfriends” and it only kept growing

my thoughts: They are pure and they are best friends that realized that they loved each other and they just… they are the fluff pairing

What makes me happy about them: everything, they are adorable and they love each other

What makes me sad about them: time zones and distance… they work through it, but I imagine that they miss each other a lot…

things done in fanfic that annoys me: nothing really, I haven’t found a leoji fic that I disliked

things I look for in fanfic: fluffffffff and reunions

My kinks: I don’t ship them sexually a lot, but I do like the idea of Guang Hong dressing up for Leo, in like the playboy bunny type outfits or short skirts and heels and stuff

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Phichit

My happily ever after for them: Guang Hong moves to America to live with Leo and they share an apartment and have a little chihuahua thats named something cute like Taco and they visit Leo’s family every weekend because Leo’s family absolutely LOVES Guang Hong. Leo’s mom basically already adopted him and loves cooking with him and trading recipes. Leo is a coach and teaches kids how to skate and he plays music in his spare time (maybe teaching kids how to play guitar too), while Guang Hong works at an animal shelter, taking care of them and helping them get adopted, and when he isn’t there, he’s vlogging. (A lot of his vlogs include Leo and Taco, because he loves chasing them with a camera.) He does a lot of cooking videos because he just likes to, and he’ll post videos of Leo singing and playing guitar, and tag/challenge videos. Especially when Phichit comes visiting… So many videos will be recorded then. They go to bed every night thankful that they can finally hold each other and be in the same time zone, and they are happy.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Chris/Victor. they are like… brotp but they’ve also definitely fucked before. at least once.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t think that Chris is really sexy? like… I think he’s really pretty, but not necessarily sexy

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish it had GIVEN MYSTERY MAN A CANON NAME AND TOLD US IF HE IS CHRIS’ BF OR HUSBAND.

a head cannon fact: After the banquet, Chris helped Victor get Yuuri back to his hotel room. Chris was drunk, but not nearly as bad as Yuuri. Victor had enough to be tipsy, and his inhibitions were out the window… Am I implying that they had a drunk threesome in Yuuri’s hotel room after the banquet, and that Victor woke up the next day and got Chris out of there before Yuuri woke up because “hold on I called dibs why are you here?” but then he also had to leave so Yuuri had no idea what had happened when he woke up? Yes, most definitely, I am.

my gender bend: Christophina/Chrissy, her hair is long and wavy/slightly curly and it’s blonde with the underside dyed brown. She got hella curves and she knows she’s hot af and she loves to show it off. I also feel like she would make lots of gay jokes and reminds everyone that she’s a huge lesbian, which makes her girlfriend sigh constantly. 2: What is your latest fandom?

The latest fandom I’ve gotten involved in would probably be Supernatural.

7: List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in:

Harry Potter: Anyone/Voldemort Hermone/Ron (I know this is canon but honesty I don’t think they belong together) Snape/any male (unless its in a trio with a female involved? I don’t know why I just don’t see Snape as gay)

Supernatural: Wincest (Ugh I just can’t get behind incest.) Dean/Lisa (I know this was canon for a while, but no. He belongs with Cas, end of story lol)

Dramione- I’ve read some and I honestly don’t hate it, I just can’t picture Draco with anyone but Harry.

Harmony- I just don’t think Harry and Hermione are a good fit- For several reasons- Just like Ron, I don’t think Harry would be enough of an intellectual challenge for Hermione. And of course Harry belongs with Draco hehe.

24: What fic do you desperately need to edit or rewrite?

Ugh my fic Magicae Principium Revelabit- I started it, and then I totally got writers block and now looking at it I’m considering just scraping it and starting over!!

26: How do you come up with your fanfiction titles?

Usually I base them off of the prompt I used to write them, or sometimes they are inspired by song titles. Otherwise they are really obvious- like my fic The Pureblood in Pink Panties is literally just about Draco wearing pink panties haha.

35: Do you write Drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?

Yes- most of my fics so far are drabbles or oneshots. I usually like writing them based on prompts or challenges. A fun one to do is the Hogwarts365 challenge on livejournal- they post 3 new prompts every week, you have a week to submit, and the fic must be exactly 365 words. (Oh and no Het allowed) My drabbles are usually Drarry.

40: What do you struggle with most in your writing?

Um I start one thing and then get an idea for something else and start that without finishing the first thing. Like constantly. I have sooo many unfinished drafts sitting on my computer lol.

I post on all three (I haven’t really posted full fics on Tumblr- just snippets and links) but I definitely prefer A03 when it comes to posting fics. The format is just way easier and aesthetically pleasing to me. As for Tumblr, I love posting pretty much everything here :)

51: Rant or gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction!”

I really hate the fandom wars, and also people who go and leave mean or useless comments on a fic just because the pairing or some other part of the story is not something they are into. why are you here then?? Someone commented on one of my Sevmione oneshots and part of their comment was- “Hermione/Snape shippers love that, as for me…” and I’m like, why are you even reading this?

But for the most part being a part of the fanfiction world as been a positive experience for me. It’s lovely to read so many creative things/see amazing art and its nice to have a whole community of people who are also way too invested in fictional characters ;)

so we rented Promare and

wow that movie is a

fucking trip

it is not a movie it is an experience

(it was not at all like that the second time around and I’m not sure if that is better or worse...???)

a Highly Experimental Style of having idek how much conflict you can shove in one movie, which we kept pausing to guess plot twists about 5 seconds before they happened, which is why it took us like 4 hours to watch the movie, anyway here’s a recounting of our watch:

- less than 10 minutes in: “uhhh I know I should give it time to get good but this does get better, right??” “IDK literally no one on twitter said why they liked it, they just said they loved it go watch it and drew fanart of a person we haven’t seen yet, maybe it’ll get good when we find that protagonist?? Maybe they set this fire and we’ll meet them soon?”

- prediction: “surprise, mystery protag is Big Boss”

- 1) nailed it

- “Not exactly a criticism but this is very 90s cartoon”

- prediction: “Galo’s going to have to break Lio out of jail”

- 2) Bad guy terrorists are actually victims of discrimination/genocide

- prediction: “Lio planned to get captured on purpose??”

- Teenage Mutant Pizza Turtles scene. Also I couldn’t remember anyone’s names because I hadn’t turned on subtitles to go with the English track yet so we have Old Time Cop Show Guy, Gonzo from Spirit Tracks, Ice-cold Megane guy, Feral Scientist Entrapta, Misty, okay I did learn Galo’s name. Also what’s that guy from Teen Titans, Cyborg?? We have Evil Cyborg and All Might as well.

- prediction: “Galo’s all like ‘I love my dad Gov!’ so Gov is def. gonna be evil, he’s secretly corrupt and actually supporting Burnish discrimination”

- prediction: “Pizza guy is Burnish”

- nailed it

- prediction: “Aina’s sister is very sad looking she’s secretly a Burnish, this is also why Aina is so pro-Burnish-rights”

- Discrimination/racism/immigration/marginalization commentary, “Maybe twitter liked the movie so much because it tackles current topics??”

- missed opportunity: “Wait wtf is under the ice? ....hm I guess that’s just how the art style is. It’s probably nothing after all.”

- Het ship kiss time

- Kiss of life, “Lio is too OP”

- “Oh okay my bad I guess it was funerary rites instead????”

- prediction: “now that his ideals are challenged Galo will have a big anguished ethical dilemma re: dad Gov and Lio’s accusations”

- 3) okay or he’ll not be conflicted at all and just confront dad Gov immediately I guess

- why does the volcano look like a demon, is that relevant

- 4) Volcanopocalypse now

- 5) Space travel, complete with Space Whales

- 6) Gov isn’t even pretending not to be evil

- prediction: “Wait is Gov actually Burnish??”

- prediction: Okay no Lio will rescue Galo instead then

- “We’re literally already sacrificing everyone on earth except 10,000 people I hand-selected as being worthy, are you seriously balking at the fact that we’re going to torture some Burnish sacrifices to do so.”

- 7) “We knew you got captured on purpose so we let you escape on purpose dumbass, we outplayed you”

- prediction: “Okay so they just shoot an Absolute Zero Bullet into the volcano to freeze the magma and end the apocalypse!!! ........................... actually that’s probably super bad for the Earth’s core and will cause another natural disaster apocalypse but that’s a battle for another day...??”

- prediction: “um okay Heris/Elis will break Galo out??”

- prediction: Aina won’t get on the ship, forcing Heris/Elis to sabotage the launch

- 8) Epic dragon final confrontation, complete with YGO psychotic faces. “....WAIT WE’RE LITERALLY ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE MOVIE WHAT. THE FUCK????”

- prediction: Galo will have to chill Lio out

- “What...is in Gov’s fist... NEVERMIND Galo SMASH”

- punching out your feelings YYH style

- prediction: They’re gonna evaporate that whole lake

- 9) “WHAT THE FUCK THERE WAS A SECRET COMPLEX IN THE ICE THE WHOLE TIME???? YOU CAN’T INTRODUCE THIS MANY MAJOR PLOTS TWISTS IN ONE MOVIE THIS IS NOT HOW DRAMATIC STRUCTURE WORKS”

- Welp Aina’s definitely missed the launch now

- 10) that one gif from the History Channel, because “It was aliens all along.”

11) DEUS X MACHINA, THEY REALLY JUST FUCKIN WENT THERE “I literally can’t tell if this movie is self-aware or not but either way this is the best scene in the entire movie”

- “You’re not chosen ones this is literally just a convenient deus ex machina shoved in here to help resolve the plot DEUS OUT”

- “Is he dead?” callback

- “Why...are you questioning if Gov killed Deus...he literally gave a speech about making hard decisions, is murdering the majority of the population of Earth, also the Burnish, etc, how is the death of this one man the moral tipping point.”

- prediction: “GENOCIDE. CULTIVATION. BEAM. Okay Gov is LYING about the other planet, he just needs it as an excuse so he can build the warp drive in the space ship, so he can kill the Burnish, so the whole world will be covered in lava, which turns to rock, which he will turn to farmland once he brings the ship back down and becomes CAPITALIST DICTATOR OF THE WORLD.”

- Blue Eyes White Dragon, x4

- 12) Heris sabotages the ship

- Did....did Gov just fire an Absolute Zero Bullet into the volcano as literally an afterthought that has zero effect on the plot????

- 13) Gov is Burnish

- prediction: “I just realized, we haven’t seen Aina in ages. Jump, Heris! Your sis will catch you on her hovercraft!”

- nailed it

- “Now he’s performing CPR....callback to the kiss of life...?”

- 14) “Callback to the kiss of life!! ..................this is.....a very long kiss.....”

- “no pyro!!!”

- “Wait did he....I swore Lio had his shirt on while they were making out...??”

- “Get in loser we’re going firefighting!”

- “So the cloud forms a heart before they start Drifting in their giant robot...”

- 15) “I don’t understand...did we apocalypse the earth? Did we avert it? Is the earth destroyed? is the earth fine? was the earth entirely renewed? what was the plot resolution here??????”

- “WHAT IS THE RESOLUTION WITH GOV????? WHAT????”

- “We thought this movie was addressing deep issues and then promptly waterskiing over them, but it turns out it was aliens all along and now they’re gone so uh what the hell kind of allegory is that.”

In summation, we have no idea if it was good or not. The first time around the sound was mixed extremely poorly with loud battle scenes, excessive shouting, and not being able to understand anyone (forcing me to turn on subtitles while watching in English), which weirdly wasn’t so bad the second time around.

Promare might have been good and deep if it had like 10 fewer plot twists and allowed the remaining 5 time to breath and reflect on their implications. Character stuff would have been interesting to see explored. TBH this probably would have been an amazing anime series and we might not have minded the aliens plot twist then.

On the other hand, it’s fun, watching it twice in a row was actually fun, and whatever reviewer the roomie found who said it was “not campy” was lying out their ass, we nearly died of all the gay innuendoes to be had. And the art is pretty cool.
