Love
Summary: Buck shows up at Reader's house in the middle of the night and soon makes a confession that sparks joy in her heart.
TW/CW: Evan "Buck" Buckley x Reader, thunderstorms keep them both awake, Reader almost hits Buck with a baseball bat, mentions of dying/death.
Requested?: No
A/N: I finally started watching 911 again and here we are.
Tumblr media
(Y/N)'s POV
I roll over in bed for the umpteenth time, still scrolling through TikTok. I pause the video for a second thinking I heard something. Holding my breath I listen carefully. I hear a soft thud and a few footsteps which causes my heart to leap into my throat. As quietly as possible, I step out of bed and grab the baseball bat tucked between it and the side table. I carefully and quietly make my way to the kitchen, bat held high ready to strike. As I round the corner, the intruder jumps, “Woah, woah! (Y/N) it’s me! Don’t swing!”
I drop the bat to my side and breathe a sigh of relief, “Buck, what the fuck are you doing here?!” I had given him a key to my apartment a while ago in case of emergencies but here lately, he had been using it just to come over and say hi or hang out when he couldn’t sleep. Even still, he usually lets me know ahead of time.
He shrugs, “I couldn’t sleep.”
Still confused, I tilt my head, “No text? No call?”
He scratches the back of his neck, suddenly turning around to attend to whatever he had brought with him, “I didn’t wanna wake you. I know you haven’t been sleeping well.”
It occurs to me why he had turned around so abruptly, “I-I’m gonna go put pants on,” I stutter out, looking down at my oversized hoodie and lack of pants.
As I turn to leave, he responds, “Y-yeah, I’m gonna make- make some coffee.” I shuffle to my room and retrieve a pair of sweatpants before tugging them on. When I return to the kitchen, throwing my hair up in a messy bun on the way, Buck is watching the coffee pot fill up with a bunch of Chinese food laid out on the bar.
I take a seat on a barstool as Buck notices my reentry, “We’re you hungry or something?”
He looks over his shoulder at me, shrugging, “I couldn’t decide what I wanted and I figured you’d been hungry when you woke up.”
“Speaking of waking up, I haven’t been able to sleep,” I jump as a bolt of lightning emits a white light through the window and thunder crashes soon after, “because of that bullshit outside.”
Buck turns around, handing me a warm mug of coffee, and nods, “Yeah, it’s been keeping me up too.” He makes his way over to my side and takes a seat in the other barstool. Together we consume nearly all of the buffet he bought and soon we’re plopping down onto the couch, having decided to watch a movie. As I’m scrolling through Netflix, I feel Buck’s eyes on me.
I look over at him and he immediately turns his attention back to the screen. “What? Do I have food on my face or something?” I ask, turning back to the TV.
“N-no,” he replies quietly.
I toss the remote onto the coffee table, forgetting about the movie, and turn my body to face his, “What’s wrong, Buckaroo?”
He shrugs, “Just been thinking a lot lately.”
I giggle, “That’s a first for you. Don’t hurt yourself,” I say picking at him.
He finally looks into my eyes, “Too late.”
My brows scrunch together and I frown, “What do you mean?”
His gaze drops to his lap as he fiddles with his fingers, “I’ve caught feelings for someone but I’m almost positive they won’t feel the same way. Not to mention it’s not a good idea for me to date them, I don’t wanna risk them getting hurt.”
I pat his shoulder, “Buck, Honey, Sweetheart,” he looks up at me, “First of all, you never know how someone feels unless you ask. Secondly, anybody would be lucky to date you and insane to not feel the same. Finally,” I place my hand on his arm, “why do you think they’d get hurt just by being with you?”
He seems to think for a moment, “I mean, my job comes with risks. There might be a day where I don’t come home from work and she gets a knock on her door from the LAFD…” he trails off.
“Buck, you can’t go through life afraid to do something just because you might die… When you love someone, you walk through life side by side no matter what might come,” I state gently, rubbing small circles into his arm with my thumb.
He stares at his lap for a few silent minutes. Just as I take a breath, about to speak again, he takes my hand in his, “What if I’m scared of losing the friendship I already have with her because she might not feel the same?”
I feel my cheeks heat up as he stares into my eyes. My heart skips a beat thinking he might actually be talking about me. I swallow those thoughts as I reply, “Buck, if she’s truly your friend, you won’t lose her. It’ll be something the two of you need to discuss throughly but if she values her friendship with you then she’ll be smart enough to work it out.”
He takes a deep breath, never breaking eye contact, “(Y/N), do you value our friendship enough to work through it if you don’t feel the same as I do?”
I smile softly at him, trying not to get my hopes up, “Of course I do, Buck. I value our friendship above most things.”
“(Y/N), I’m in love with you,” he blurts out, looking away to fiddle with the string of his hoodie this time.
I place my hand on his cheek and nudge him to look at me. Upon making eye contact, I confess, “I’m in love with you too, Buck.”
The smile that arches across his face is so bright even the flashing lightning outside couldn’t compare. He leans forward, placing his forehead against mine, closing his eyes, “Will you be my girlfriend, (Y/N)?” I nod happily and he takes the opportunity to kiss me. Unfortunately, our sweet moment is short lived as thunder booms outside.
I jump and glare at the window, “Way to ruin a good moment, Mother Nature.”
Buck laughs, pulling my attention back to him, “I know you got beef with her and all it let’s just drown Mother Nature out for once, yeah?”
I nod and curl into his side as he retrieves the remote and begins scrolling through Netflix once more. I glance up to see a smile still plastered on his face, a smile that mirrors my own. When he first started talking, I was scared I was losing him but now he’s mine and together we’ll take on the world.

Detective's rescue
Pairing: Eddie Diaz x Reader
Summary: Eddie's relationship, the reader is a detective, they both on 24hour shift. Reader responds a 9-1-1 call and ends up needing first aids
Warning: blood, angst, OD symptoms described, mention of drugs
Tumblr media
Being a detective on patrol wasn't the best thing ever to be frank, but it was something when you knew your boyfriend would accompany you all night long with his own 24 hour shift, it was rare thing for our double shifts to be on the same time, but when it happened I both liked it and didn't like it, we were both out. I usually work on cases in the office and do my research and help the firefighters with cases and they help me occasionally.
"So where are you strolling now?" Eddie asked, I was driving while I had a Bluetooth headphone.
"In the area of the homicide, the father killed his daughter while the mother was away… there is still no handy information for a warrant so I am looking for something I've missed" I explained briefly as I was driving past the house.
"Baby…" Eddie started to say, I knew how he felt when I was getting so passionate about a case. He disliked it, I overworked myself and forgot many things such as sleeping, eating or going to my shift.
"How about you? Didn't hear anything from dispatch, quiet night?" I wondered, cutting him off elegantly, setting my line of defense. I wasn't like Athena, I do not leave my job behind once my shift is over, I admire her for that though. I actually have to spend more of my personal time researching and studying. I have to go undercover to gather information, but I am not complaining. Sometimes though I need my people to understand me.
"Yea we are just hanging around." He replied with a heavy sigh he didn't respond to the q-word, I knew he wouldn't be bothered. I knew the response was unwilling. He knew my drill "Buck fell asleep at the Gym, Bobby and Hen are playing chess and Chimney is cooking" he analysed their situation and I smiled.
"Tell him to make an extra plate for me, I'll be dropping by" I spoke hoping that would make up for my big-headed behaviour.
"Oh You i decided to have a proper meal other than burgers and donuts" he joked with small giggle.
"Happens sometimes" I chuckled when I heard the wireless "babe hang on"
"This is 221-L99 available tell me the issue dispatch" I asked, I could tell it was May.
"Alright, there's drug dealing on the "overroof" club, there's a rave going on, some ODs based on caller's information, 118 of LAFD shall be there to take care of those." She informed me as I heard the bell on Eddie's side.
"I'll be in touch Dispatch" I spoke as I was connected to the team I would cooperate.
"Diaz no phones on patrol" I spoke as I was driving and couldn't finish the call. "221-L99 moving on scene. I am nearby I see three overdosed in their twenties one male two female they are simply left on the ground I am engaging the victims now." I spoke and got out of the car.
"Copy detective" Captain Nash affirmed me.
I approached the victims and checked the pulses. "All alive you need to come in quick…" I couldn't leave the uncouncisous civilians alone.
"Already ahead of you detective you are clear to proceed" my boyfriend replied sweetly, or at least that's what I thought.
"Dispatch moving in the club incognito, there's no bouncer or doorman" I informed them and opened the door. This wasn't a good sign, the dance floor was empty and so was the kitchen, I would have to go down stairs. "Ground floor empty moving to basement staircase" I announced and moved i could hear voices. "Dispatch sent some back up, I hear people" I spoke and dispatch obeyed my request.
I was right behind the stairs and I heard enough keywords that included heroin, drugs, and that the police can't find. That was my queue. "LAPD hands in the air" I yelled, Eddie always said that my voice in that phrase was so cold, smooth and dictated he found it sexy. "Don't move" I ordered. My voice was strong. They were three but I had a gun.
"Nope ass" one said and charged to get my phone I kicked him to the ground he slid to the floor with no Injury but before i could get in control of the other two, they had two bags of drugs five kilos each if I calculated correct the moment one of them came and punched in my face causing the white dust to be spread all around me in the air I stumbled backwards fell hitting my head on staircase, I took a deep breath trying to orientate, my vision got blurry.
"Detective Y/L/N, report" I heard dispatch between the ringing of my ears but the only response I could find was groan, I felt my heart going erratically with the beats. I was shaking.
"Detective" It was Captain Nash this time, his voice tense. But there was a pause. "Dispatch three offenders running away with two white bags one leaking" he reported and that's when my sudden dysphoria was making sense.
"Help" I managed to pronounce "OD" as I started to shake. I couldn't make out what I was hearing or what was going on, suddenly I saw Eddie in a mask with Chimney. They moved me outside my eyes were wide open but I couldn't react I was shaking, my body started twitching, I was held down, I could recognize Eddie's arms pressing me down, and smaller but still powered hands in my legs, chimney my guess. I coughed I could feel the salty, warm liquid laking inside my mouth, I coughed again.
"Baby… I am here" Eddie's voice was fading as black spots invaded my vision as I started having trouble breathing.
"I get no pulse" Chimney announced, "Hen start compressions" he instructed as he pushed on the oxygen in my face
"Oh no no honey, please-" before Eddie could finish his sentence I heard Buck taking him away as another person took his position next to me.
"Captain bring the AED" Hen requested she kept the pounds on my chest.
"Still unresponsive" Chimney said, causing Eddie to make a movement closer to me, Captain and Buck held him back
"I'm unbuckling the shirt, we are shocking" Hen spoke I heard footsteps
"Eddie please leave" Captain requested with a heavy sigh, I am sure he thought of the time Athena was in my position.
"Just let me be by Y/N Captain" Eddie requested , next thing I feel his warm loving hands on my face removing my hair stroking my cheek his fingers on my neck in desperate hope he would get the slight pulsation in my veins.
"Eddie hands" Hen spoke and he removed them as I felt electricity, I couldn't define what kind of pain it was or if it was, more like a sting to my whole body that would either wake me up or be the last thing I feel…
"Give me more Chim" Hen encouraged him the third clear was heard, the screen kept beeping. There was silence other than that.
"No no no baby no" Eddie panicked he started compressions but Buck pulled him off of my body. He yelled at him Buck yelled back I wasn't sure, my ears started ringing, was I dying…? The first ponder that dominated my mind, made my stomach twitch. I coughed vomit out…
I was alive
"Hey girl, hey easy now" Hens' voice sounded and turned me to the side to let it all out. Chimney secure my position so it wouldn't cause any damage.
Eddie raced next to me, he leaned in and kissed my forehead "oh god love, you scared me so much." I smiled as I turned on my back looking at him upside down as he leaned above my head.
"I'm sorry" I smiled and reached his face, I was shaking rapidly, he simply took my hand and kissed the palm before bringing it to his cheek, his cheek so hot against my freezing skin.
"Hey no no, it's not your fault, we must get you to the hospital now alright?" He smiled down at me and my smile faded at the hearing of the location I had to be.
"I won't be admitted in, I'll sign out" I announced, the sweet moment long gone as I made a move to get of the stretcher.
"Wow,now detective, you have to be cleared out in order to return to your cases, we are transferring you to the ER. I have to do it by the book, you know the drill" Captain Nash intervened immediately, and I could see the relief on my fiancee's face.
"Ah now we are by the book, that's nice to hear" I barked, I knew I was wrong, but hospitals, hospitals gave me anxiety, Eddie would have to go to Christopher eventually and I don't like being alone in those white cold rooms. "Guys please" I pleaded
"you are facing an extended pcp od, and a small hit on the back of your head, your blood pressure is perilly high and you have extremely unstable arrhythmias" Hen essayed the reasons I should listen to them as my eyes turned teary I was panicking.
"Hey hey sweetie" Eddie sighed "I'll be with you the whole time" he promised and kissed my cheek gently as they all stood up carrying me to the ambulance. He stepped in sat next to me while Hen joined, just in case. He was holding my hand, just looking at me, his ember eyes, he was worried even if he wouldn't admit.
"What about Christopher?" I asked concerned.
"Buck is already on his way, but how are you feeling Y/N?" He asked me softly stroking my head.
"I have dysphoria" I explained and soon Hen gave me a mask my eyelids turned heavy as I slipped from counsiousness.
I don't know what time it was, or how long I've been out. I blinked my vision clear, the lighting was dim in the room Eddie fell asleep on the chair next to me, I couldn't help but smile. He did stay. I stood up holding on my IV, feeling lightheaded, I moved to the bathroom, I looked terrible red eyes pale skin, weakness though was the worse.
"Y/N;" I heard his voice call my name in alert.
"What is it?" I asked making abrupt movement to get to the door I leaned there feeling another hit of vertigo getting the best of me.
"I thought you left, hey let me help you baby" he sighed in relief and approached, he was still on patrol clothes. He scooped a hand over my waist and held my weight as he walked me to the bed, softly placing me to lay down.
"Can I kiss you now? Or I am still high?" I asked him placing my hands around his neck, the IV tube got tangled between us, he smiled getting it out of the way. He leaned in and kissed my nose. His lips formed a smile.
"You have been good tonight, not running away, so it is well deserved" he smiled and located his lips on mine, the sweet kiss forming, he was gentle and cautious as he was touching me.
"Mhm mostly because I have been unconscious all night long and I get dizzy after three steps, that played it's part too" I spoke and kissed his cheek softly
"Let a man be happy" he spoke faking frustration before he kissed me again. And again.

Buddie in 9-1-1 Theories (Bingo?) Post-Bi!Buck
Someone in the fire fam has clocked Buck (probs Hen) but no one sees Eddie being gay coming
Someone assumes Eddie was the person that kissed Buck
We get a Buddie kiss in S7 but they won’t get together just yet because they still need to figure things out for themselves (we know how 911 loves to make their characters suffer)
There won’t be as much drama in the “getting together” as we think - this isn’t a Bathena, Madney or Henren situation. They’ve known each other for so long that being together is the most natural thing in the world (once they figure their personal shit out)
Something traumatizing happens in S8 that forces them to acknowledge their feelings
Christopher figures it out before they tell him
Buck telling Maddie and Bobby is VERY emotional - Chim is the last to find out; Hen is lovely but very Clocked It
Buck’s parents are surprisingly accepting
Eddie’s parents less so
Tia and Pepa are ABSOLUTELY supportive
They slip up somehow and someone catches them in a compromising position
The working together part will be the most dramatic obstacle - I see the LAFD trying to separate them
Michael is Eddie’s gay Yoda at least once
They bring back someone’s ex that’s like “I KNEW something was up.” Either Ana or Taylor (or both)
Tommy is the one to point out Buck’s feelings for Eddie

I was talking about this with @thegeekcompanion but, like, if they make buddie canon, that would 3 out of 7 main characters confirmed queer. 3 out of 7 main characters who are queer in a cable show not a streaming service, on a show that's not about queer themes? That's unheard of. Sure you have the addition of queer characters on shows like grey's anatomy that have more queer characters than I expected now that I stopped to take a count of many are there, but that's none of the og cast. 2 out 5 of the og main cast of the show is confirmed queer. We had Hen and Karen and Michael from the get go. We have Josh and Tommy. We had Glenn and Eva and David. Multiple people in calls. No one is doing it like them. Like, quite literally.

Here's the thing, I honestly don't mind if Buddie doesn't become canon as long as they don't mess with their relationship and they develop whomever ends up being their partners
But I genuinely have a hard time trying to even imagine how they could give them a partner that not only matches, but gets even a more intimate and deep bond than the one Buddie have.
Buck and Eddie already had a strong bond when they met (once Buck's silly rivalry faded), but it has done nothing but grow more and more for 5 seasons. What's more, it still keeps growing and developing and getting stronger.
I trust the writers will create great characters if they decide to give them a romantic partner, and I believe they'll be able to give them a deep intimate bond, but will it even hold anything over Buck and Eddie's (still growing) bond!?

“Thank you.” You groaned as Buck helped you into the wheel chair, it was still an adjustment for you. You not remembering this man other then the fact he tried his hardest to fight for you and save your life, you assumed he was just doing his job but now he tells you, the two of you had a relationship and your baby was his, it was far more complicated. You weren’t sure how to react to that. You just knew you felt safe with him. It’s been exactly three days and every day, he would come at the same time—5:15. On the dot and take you down to see your daughter. Today would be the first time you are able to hold her, things were starting to look up for her and just maybe you didn’t need surgery after all, you were looking like yourself— Sorta! Thanks to your friend girl, who came over and hooked up your makeup and hair and give you some proper clothes other then that tacky hospital gown. But none of that truly mattered— you were alive. You could be dead, your daughter could be dead but thanks to Buck, you both survived. “Mm.” You groaned.
You were still in a lot of pain from surgery and the broken bones, morphin drips helped but it was only temporary.
“Let me help you.” He parked the wheelchair walking around to you, he took your hand as you held them out. “Thanks, again.” He nodded, you leaned against the crib that your daughter was in, she was a sight for sore eyes. The most beautiful human being you’d ever laid eyes on. She was clearly a split between the two of us, she had bucks nose and eye shape, my everything else. She looked like the both of us, more so him in this moment so there was no denying– he was her father. He even offered to take a test, just to prove he was. Not only for himself but me. He told me how everything went down between us, what caused us to shift but it kind of made some sense. But none of that mattered because, I didn’t know him. “Are you ready?” The nurse smiled, lifting our daughter up out the incubator bed.
You smiled. “Yes.” You nodded your head from ear to ear, Buck smiled at her, as she was rested in my arms. “Are you sure that it’s okay?” You ask the nurse as you gently rocked your daughter in your arms. She nodded. “Yes. You’re her mother and it’s important that she builds a bond with you, you can have an hour with her today.”
She smiled, touching Buck’s arm with a slight wink. You looked up to see his response but he nervously pulled away, you just brushed it off but part of you was a little bothered by it. You didn’t know why. “I’ll be back later.” She smiled before exiting, you propped up your daughters head as he helped you sit back in the wheelchair, he pulled up a chair brushing his hand over her head full of curls, placing a kiss on her forehead. “She’s so beautiful.” His eyes settled of water. You just watched him, you never saw a man cry before. You remember your father saying men crying was a sign of weakness. But you always thought that was a load of bull. “Aww, Buckley’s shedding some tears.” You joke, he chuckled slightly. “Yeah I’m an emotional wreck.” He slightly chuckled wiping his face, brushing his hands up and down his thigh. “She’s just perfect.”
“She really is,” you brushed your hand over her head as well.
He slightly chuckled with a smile. “Are we going to come up with a name yet?” I looked at my daughter, I had the perfect name but wasn’t sure if he would like it. “I have a name but, I’m not sure you’d like it.” He folded his fingers together looking at you. “Try me.” You looked into her eyes. “Grace.” You looked him in the eyes. “It’s a miracle she’s even here, that I’m even here so I figu—” he cut me off. “No, no. It’s perfect. Grace. It’s a beautiful name. Could I ask one thing?” You nod. “If it comes back that she’s mine, could we name her after my sister, Maddie? Maybe, Grace Madison?” You had no problem with that so you agreed, you both just sat and looked at your daughter in silence. She had soon fallen asleep. “May I?” You hadn’t realized that you never let him hold her, you apologized and handed her over, he held her so delicately and so tight you were just in love, the way he looked at her.. you loved it. You knew he would protect her, by any means. But this situation was so strange, you were out of your comfort zone.
“She looks just like you, you know?” He chuckled
You smiled. “Funny, I was about to tell you the same thing. She’s a spitting image of both of us. Is it crazy that I don’t even know you but I hope that she is yours?” He looks away from her then at you. “No. It’s not crazy at all.” He flashed that beautiful smile, a smile that’ll make any woman weak at the knees. “I get out of here tomorrow, my mother won’t be able to make it until the day after so.. I’m..” he shook his hand as he still held Grace, not looking away from her. “Not a problem, I’ll be here first thing and take you to your place to settle in.” You smiled. “But, don’t you have to work?”
“I do but, I’m also not the only fire fighter. My boss, Bobby. He understands the situation and we are all like family, pretty soon you’ll see.”
You just nodded. “I honestly don’t want to leave her.” He let out a sigh. “I don’t blame you, I don’t either. I’m already attached to her, I just wanna hold her and never let her go. I love kids. I just never thought I wanted one of my own until now; now that she’s here, I want her to be mine.” He looked away from her then to me. “I’m in love with her already, I just wanna protect her. Love her. Be a father to her and treat her like the princess she is.” You smiled, “That’s so sweet Buck.” You slightly pouted because you felt bad, what if it wasn’t his? You had no memory, so you couldn’t tell him if she was or wasn’t. But deep down you believed that she was
: Fire House Visit (A Week Later) :
It was proven that Buck was indeed Grace’s father. Over the last week, the two of you had gotten close. You were developing a friendship, mainly because of your daughter and you also knew because Buck was trying to get you to remember him, which was hard. But, you were feeling him. The feelings were strong. Maybe a little too strong.
“You got the diaper bag?” You ask Buck as he got into the driver side, buckling his seat belt.
He looked over at you. “You know that I did. Relax, Y/n.” You let out a deep sigh, you were nervous to meet his friends whom were like family to him. You didn’t know why, but you were. You asked yourself what if they didn’t like you. “Don’t tell me to relax. I’m just nervous to meet your friends, I haven’t exactly seen anyone of them since all of you saved my life.”
Tumblr media
“If you’re worried about them not liking you, don’t worry about that. If I like you, they’ll love you. Besides you’re the one woman that I refuse to let get away, they’ll probably be intrigued and wanting to know your secret.” He joked.

The parallel of Buck’s face at the start of 5x14 when Eddie is telling him that he practically doesn’t see the point to life, and then at the END of the ep where Eddie breaths in and says that yeah,,, maybe he does see the point to life is O U T S T A N D I N G to me like !!!! That man went through the 7 stages of grief in the first part. His features tensed, his look hardened, that man was scared,,, then after working so hard he finally manages to get a positive reaction from Eddie and he’s so relived and content he could wag his tail had he one 😫

The Abduction
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eddie Diaz x Reader (established relationship)
Warnings:angst hurt blood bullet wound
Summary: reader gets shot trying to escape the situation, will they be taken care of on time
We had been called in a riot, police escort and all the crazy things that happened in state prisons. We had a fire to put out either way, I hadn't had the chance to speak with Eddie after last night's argument. I have to admit, storming out of the house during night wasn't the nicest reaction but it was better than saying things upon fury. When we arrived at the station, dispatch immediately got us to the prison incident.
We arrived and police were all around us, I could feel Eddie's eyes closing on me making sure I was nearby. We were moving out as we noticed the two inmates that were barely alive, Eddie and Buck got one of them aiding him out to our ambulance while we waited for more police escort.
"What if he codes?"I asked Captain Nash who sighed heavily.
"Alright Y/L/N approaching Diaz and Buckley" he informed the systems as I jogged towards their route.
"Approaching them now" I filled in as I arrived and started walking next to Buck.
"Hey there" he greeted with a smile, he could sense the electrified atmosphere between me and Eddie, therefore he knew it wasn't the moment to talk or ask about it.
"Officer why don't we move forward, prepare the ambulance we shouldn't be exposed to the yard" I suggested and snuck my hand on Buck's pocket I was moving, I wouldn't give them space to argue with me. He did follow. I heard Eddie's exhale and I shook my head as I was jogging to the exit.
"You seem like you know our job" the escorting guard commented as I opened the ambulance and got the bed out.
"It's true, I was in the police academy but then being a paramedic won me over." I explained and prepared the bed as the rest exited as well, I lowered the bed so the inmate would be laid quicker. I got in the back of the ambulance and so did Eddie and one guard as the other and Buck went on the front. The siren was heard.
"Eddie, give me the IV" I requested as the supply was closer to him,I started cleaning the spot not really realizing what was going on, I plugged the small tube of the fluid bag to the needle and then carefully placed it on his arm as the siren stopped. There was silence no one said a thing, I would break the silence as my fianceè was in a mood to start a conversation.
"What the hell?" Eddie murmured the moment I stood up to hook the IV,I turned my head abruptly as I noticed the abrupt movement of the prison guard that was holding a gun pointing at me. Eddie held my wrist the moment I was frozen standing and pulled me to sit down again next to him. He didn't let go, I slid my hand to hold his too.
My throat went dry, my gaze spectated Eddie, he was staring at the guy angered, his expression was solid and tremendously decisive as if he was scheming a plan… I had my own plan though as well. I breathed out, not realizing I was holding my breath, it came out like a sob.
"It's going to be alright"Eddie assured me, we were close to each other so close he was putting his body forward so I was behind him just in case. I didn't resist, I simply held his hand tightly, he could feel me shaking.
"We can't thank you enough, I was waiting to get out of there 18 years ago." He sighed heavily and smiled at us, the vehicle was slowly stopping. "Now how about we get out of here for a while." He winked at us, signing us with the gun.
I stood up and opened the doors slowly, Eddie was close behind me. I took a step and tripped, in my attempt to stop the fall I grabbed a drawer making it fall along with its interior to the ground. Before I fell Eddie wrapped his arm around my waist pulling to my feet. As he did I managed to snatch two sedative injections.
Once I was down Eddie followed suit, he came close to me, as on my other side there was Buck, he was angry too, but in a way that he was to do something stupid. "Check them" the one that was on the back ordered and the other one started patting Eddie's suit then it was my turn, his eyes fixed on me as foreign hands patted my body over the suit.
"That's enough" he spoke and the guy laughed a bit and moved to Buck as I managed to cover the injections.
"What do we do" Buck asked lowly and I swallowed
"There are two of them and two of us" Eddie spoke and I shook my head
"And then there's me, with two sedatives on my sleeve, so I need a distraction" I announced and looked at Eddie slightly.
"The fall as you got out" he realized with a heavy sigh
They ripped our wirelesses and took our phones and wallets. One was holding Eddie. He took a photo of Christopher out "Cute Kid" he noticed "Yours?". He overstepped, Eddie's behavior changed, softened I could feel the fear he felt for his son. "I guess he lives with you at 4995 South Be-" he was to say the address but Buck interrupted him with a punch landed on his face.
This was my distraction.
The other guy fought Buck with a punch as I moved to the other one to inject him before I could, there was a shot heard, I turned my face immediately to Buck who was next to me and then Eddie only to see fear flooding both of their faces. Seconds later I felt the same fear as I felt the bullet enter and exit my shoulder, I fell with a sob as Eddie raced stumbling next to me as if guns weren't there, he held me close to him, I was breathing sharply already red in tears, he leaned me on his chest applying pressure with his fireproof coat, he removed mine too.
Buck soon approached and took my wrist."strong pulse." He informed Eddie who was letting go of my wound.
"It's an in and out. Only shoulder." Eddie spoke, I calmed down, my head upon his heartbeat, assisted me to control my breaths and calm down, it made me feel safe.
"I assume that now we are on the same page" one of them said.
I was only waiting for what would come now… I didn't move an inch from where I was hidden "Get in" he ordered us.
Eddie had me standing. "Are you alright?" He asked as he wrapped the coat carefully so then pressure would be applied.
I nodded "don't worry I am hanging" I assure him, I walked on my own to the vehicle behind me then boys. "He is in cardiac arrest" I realized as the patient had no pulse and was choking in his own blood.
"Then save him" he spoke
"She c pman't" Eddie pointed out as he and Buck started the attempts to regain his pulse.
"Don't worry, when will be just fine she is a paramedic, and besides that if she dies you two will die." He announced and my blood went cold.
"He is right, you revive him and I will take care of myself" I smiled reassuringly. "I am just getting the patches to stop the bleeding of my wound," I said.
"No, I have it stable with my coat Y/N… remove it and it may get worse" Eddie remarked. "You have to rest so your pressure falls enough and the blood you lose is preserved " he suggested and I nodded, laying back I was speaking advising them on how to behave with the patient.
Soon we arrived at the hospital, it was dark outside and I was starting to slip in and out of consciousness. Everything I heard was blurry. I woke up from Eddie and Buck shouts.
"Okay he ought to go to the hospital with Buck but Y/N needs to follow along." Eddie exclaimed "She is bleeding out" his voice sounded scared.
"Her life it's not in my hands, and in case you haven't noticed I am holding the gun, so now do as I say before I quicken the bleed out" he sighed and Buck slowly got off the ambulance with the other guard.
Eddie approached me "Hey Y/N" He sighed softly and pulled me to the space on the floor so I would lay down "how are you feeling?" He asked me as he processed one IV on my hand, I flinched with a sob.
"I am alright" I breathed, barely making my voice audible "just dizzy" I spoke and smiled weakly.
"You said her life is not in your hands… what do you want to let us go" Eddie yelled slightly.
"My son is on life support, waiting for a heart transplant, but you see his priority spot is not so high up…" he explained "I am available and compatible… but I also am a convict… so I cannot donate." He explained and lowered his gaze to me.
I could hear him, he looked at me with a slight sigh. My breathing was shallow as I was laying on Eddie's arms. "You can't stay here forever, they will make a move eventually and both of them will die…" Eddie spoke for some reason and it seemed to work. "If we go out and you turn yourself in, I have a friend, Taylor Kelly. She will let people know of the situation and the transplant will be found," he suggested.
"We will do our best too, if we know your son's blood type" I spoke my voice came out hoarse, I coughed turning on my side, if I passed out I should be on the right position, Eddie helped me his hand str
Oking my head, untangling then braids I had to let me looser, he kissed my temple before looking back up.
"Alright… we are going out…" he finally announced. "Secure her to last for a few more minutes and let's go out. You care moving first" he ordered Eddie.
Eddie placed me on the floor of the vehicle and kissed my head, I brought my exhausted glare to meet his gaze, reassuring still. "It's going to be alright, see you in a few minutes" he assured me gently stroking my head, I smiled raising my head to kiss his lips, he responded by cupping my face softly. "Hang on for me" he spoke and moved to the door, I heard him exhale loudly. The door was clicked open.
He spoke loudly to the cops in order to be heard, his tone remained calm, soon the ambulance shook slightly as our captor got out, seconds later I heard a shot, I gasped trying to move but I could barely speak, I felt my heart race. I wasn't able to keep my eyes open, I knew Eddie was alive… I heard him right before everything went black.
"Tell them to prepare an O.R… Then get in the ambulance, Y/N is still in there in need of blood… please"
"Y/N" Buck yelled, getting in.
"How bad is it?" Eddie asked
"Pulse barely exists, I am moving her out, I got it." I heard Buck as he placed his one hand underneath my knees and his other over my waist, he supported my head on his shoulder, I could sense the shift of my body and the alterations of the environment, everything seemed in a far dream… a bad dream.
I shot up feeling a stretching ache on my shoulder and hand, the IV and the stitches… I was in the hospital, I looked around, I took a look at the screens that monitored my heart, I realized I was panicking… there was no need… I was safe… that's what the hospital meant. I pressed an emergency button soon the nurse came and checked on me, she highlighted the fact that it was amazing how quickly I responded to the blood transfusions, they calculated I'd be out until dawn.
"Are you up for any visitors?" She asked and I nodded with a smile.
Soon the room flooded with people. Eddie came by my side with a sigh and kissed my cheek. He was carefully hugging me. "Is the kid safe?" I asked him softly and he nodded and signed me to look at the people that entered the room.
"How are you doing?" Bobby asked me as he moved in with his wife.
"I am alright." I assured them, Buck approached me and Eddie hugging us both carefully with a heavy sigh.
"You two gave me quite the scare" he sighed and slapped slight hate back of Eddie's neck and ruffled my hair.
"Sorry, we had work to do" Eddie chuckled at his best friend and kissed my cheek.
We talked and laughed, and ate. They were my family, so important to me… and to Eddie. He was sitting next to me on my bed as I started dozing off, they begun to flee my room, Eddie kissed my lips and cheek but I felt exhausted, he sat on the chair next to me holding ,my hand, I could feel his fingers stroking my wrist, subconsciously feeling the pulsation in my veins that it is still there.

Summary: When the 118 are called out to a crash scene, there is a bit of a communication problem that only Evan can solve. He's the only one who knows sign language. And the victim.
Enjoy.

Running a hand through his hair, Evan let his head flop back on the pillow and a quiet groan tumbled past his lips when he noticed the time. He had to get ready for work. Not that he wanted to go in today. Evan loved his job, it was rewarding and demanding and every day was different and brought about new experiences, some of which he would rather forget at times.
But he didn't feel like going in today, he wanted to stay home. With (Y/n).
His tired, dreary eyes locked on the tv that was playing quietly in the background. Evan used to have the tv turned up on high volume, his hyper tendencies and short attention span made it hard for him to concentrate when he watched a tv show or a movie. The volume had to be loud so he could understand what people were saying and process their words.
Ever since he and (Y/n) moved in together, Evan's problem with loud volume was solved. (Y/n) needed the subtitles on whenever they watched something and at first it was hard for Evan to concentrate on watching tv and read the titles at the same time. But he found it helped him immensely. Even when (Y/n) wasn't home, Evan still kept the subtitles on and he found himself squinting angrily at the tv in the station when he had no words to process and had to use his ears for a change.
With a deep breath, Evan pushed himself up off the bed and slowly made his way towards the bathroom. He tried to shake the tiredness out of his system and liven himself up, he only had an hour before he needed to be at the station and he couldn't drive there half asleep like this.
When he walked into the bathroom, a tender smile curved on his lips that pressed together tightly when an idea popped into his head.
(Y/n) being unable to hear anything meant Evan never had a problem sneaking up on her. She prided herself on being unphased by most things until she married Evan and he found all sorts of ways to shock her and give her jump scares.
He shut the bathroom door behind him and gingerly approached the shower, taking a second to tilt his head to the side and admire the view his wife was unknowingly giving him.
He shrugged off his lounge shirt and shorts, kicking his bottoms off along with them before he tried his best to open the shower door slowly so (Y/n) wouldn't notice the sudden change in temperature. Steam curled around Evan's face and clung to his hair, turning it damp before he put one foot under the water.
Evan's tongue got caught between his teeth and his lips spread into a smirk as he hunkered down, stretched his arms out and suddenly clamped his hands down on (Y/n)'s hips.
(Y/n)'s arms coiled into her chest and a small scream mixed with a gasp tumbled past her lips when familiar fingertips dug into her hips and she was sent off balance. Her heart thumped away in her chest sending her vision blurry when she snapped her eyes open while her knees bent and gave way.
She could feel Evan laughing. She didn't have to look at him to know; his chest always shuddered and trembled, vibrating back and forth when he laughed. And (Y/n) could feel his broad chest pressing up into her back as his hands moved to bind around her waist to prevent her from falling down. Her feet skidded against the puddle of water pooling around the drain and she braced one hand on the surprisingly cold tiled wall while her other hand clamped down on Evan's forearm.
She let her eyes fall closed again so he couldn't see her rolling them at him while she tried to catch her breath.
She had been lost in thought until he snook his way in. Usually (Y/n) was able to sense Evan, but sometimes he went into stealth mode and she didn't feel him coming up behind her like this.
Evan was sure he heard her mumble his name and it only made him grin as he pulled her up so she was back on her feet again. He felt the shower door bump into his shoulders as it closed behind him and he walked (Y/n) forward a foot or two so he wasn't in danger of pushing the door back open and falling out.
He couldn't stop himself from grinning when he tucked his face into (Y/n)'s neck and pressed his lips against her skin. With his head tilted down, he could feel the water trickling through his curls, flattening his hair down against his temple. The water traced down the bridge of his nose and trickled down onto (Y/n)'s collar bone causing her to shudder against him.
With pursed lips, (Y/n) moved her hands in front of her, kept her palms open and moved her hands back and forth over her chest but the word she signed only made Evan smile. Scary. He had managed to scare her.
He grinned into her skin and bit down on her neck to make her shiver just as (Y/n) grabbed one of his hands and moved his palm to rest over her chest so he could feel her heartbeat. He had given her a fright just like he intended and he could feel her pulse. Her heart was thrashing away in her chest causing her skin to vibrate with each beat.
"Hi sweetheart," Evan leaned his cheek onto (Y/n)'s shoulder so she could see his lips moving. She wasn't the best at reading lips, especially not right now when water was cascading down around them, distorting the way his lips moved and blurring her vision of him.
So Evan curled his arms tighter around her and pressed his hands into fists so he could place them over (Y/n)'s chest. She looked down to where his hands were on her chest with his knuckles touching and when Evan started to curl his thumbs up and down like he was giving a thumbs up, (Y/n) leaned over to kiss his cheek.
It was the sign for sweetheart.
(Y/n) looked down when she felt Evan's hands move down from her chest so his arms were back to squeezing into her waist but this time, he placed his hands down to cradle her stomach. His thumb brushed up and down her skin against the water cascading down around them and (Y/n) took a sharp breath when he suddenly bit down on her neck like a vampire.
(Y/n) turned her head and nuzzled her nose against Evan's damp hair that turned a few shades darker when wet. Her hands moved to grip his wrists and she started to brush her thumbs across his skin in a slow, soothing motion. The movement made Evan smile against her skin that he was still kissing and nipping at like he was doing his best to create bruises all along her neck.
She knew what he was doing. He had his hands on her stomach because he was desperate to feel the baby move and now they were five months along, they should start to feel movements soon.
Despite Evan's eagerness, (Y/n) was the one who was silently yearning to feel the baby move. She couldn't hear the heartbeat when they went to their appointments. Evan got to sit and listen to their baby's heartbeat and know what that sounded and felt like. He got that experience whereas (Y/n) was reduced to watching the monitor, scrutinising it to see that heart beating away, forever silent in her ears.
Feeling the baby move would prove to (Y/n) that the baby was okay and actually real. Her bump didn't give her that comfort like she dreamed feeling the movement would.
Taking care to be slow, (Y/n) turned around in his arms so she was facing him and dragged her fingertips up his biceps and over his shoulders until she could cup the back of his neck. Her thumbs smoothed across the side of his jaw but she gasped as Evan's hands dug into her hips and he moved her back until she was pressed against the tiles.
They were like ice cubes sticking to her burning skin and the mix of hot and cold made her shake until Evan tilted his head down so their foreheads were pressed together. Most of the water from the shower trickled down the back of Evan's neck but the leftover droplets fell down his forehead and jumped onto (Y/n)'s skin.
It felt comforting to have Evan's arms around her, one secured around her waist and the other wormed around her shoulders and his hand wedged between her and the wall to cup the back of her neck. She could feel his fingers scratching into her skin and she let her head drop back against the tiles so she could look up at him.
She liked the way the water dripped down from his pale pink lips and jumped free from his chin. Each droplet made (Y/n)'s chest tighten until she pushed her hands against his neck and pulled him down to her level. Her fingertips stayed pressed into his skin as she connected his lips down to hers. She sucked his lower lip between her teeth and gave a little bite until Evan's chest vibrated and he meshed her into him.
Evan's head tilted down to the left and his eyes intently focused on his wife's hand as she pointed at him before curling her fingers until only her index finger and thumb were sticking up. She bent her index finger and tilted her hand up and down towards him.
She was asking if he was going to be late.
When he looked up at her, he could see she was muttering 'will you be late' under her breath and he could barely make out her voice. It didn't matter how many times Evan told her she could speak around him, she preferred to sign. (Y/n) couldn't hear her voice, she couldn't tell if she was pronouncing her words correctly or if she was whispering or talking too loudly.
But when she was particularly animated, she would speak as well as sign, but only around Evan. It made him feel special that he was the only one to hear her voice.
"I've got time," His voice was deeper than before and his eyes were hooded and each drop of water that fell from his lashes tried to distract (Y/n) from watching the way his lips moved. She could lip read well enough when up close and personal like this.
A soft smile formed on (Y/n)'s lips when she felt Evan's hand move from the back of her neck to reach down and grip the underside of her thigh. He looked her leg over his hip and pulled her closer until he was stood in between her thighs, smirking down at her because he knew she wouldn't object, whether he was going to be late or not.
With one hand still gripping (Y/n)'s thigh, Evan tilted his head down to look at his wife while he moved his left hand up. He hovered his hand over his face, going from his forehead to his chin in a circular motion before he pressed his index finger against his cheek and made a line down to his chin.
His sign made (Y/n)'s lips press together to hide her grin before she pushed up to kiss him.
'Pretty girl.'
***
"LAFD. Miss, I'm here to help you, are you okay?" A tender smile flooded Bobby's face as he yanked the passenger door open and wedged himself into the seat.
His eyes raked over the woman sat in the driver's seat, noticing that she was thankfully the only one in the car and she was awake, alert and responsive. She had very piercing eyes that took Bobby off guard as he watched her drag her gaze all over him like she was petrified some random stranger had just decided to climb into her car after she'd had an accident.
Terror ransacked (Y/n)'s body when she stared at the older man who sat down next to her. Something about his expression made her feel safe, his presence was calming and the florescent jacket was the same one (Y/n) knew her husband wore. He was part of the emergency service, someone safe who was here to help get her out.
One minute (Y/n) was on her way to Maddie's house to see her sister in law, the next, a car tried to overtake her on a single road and ended up crashing into a car coming from the other direction.
(Y/n), along with four other cars, collided when they all tried to break and swerve out the way. And (Y/n) was relieved other people were around to call for help. She had never had to call 911 before and she couldn't remember how to use the texting system that was in place for deaf callers. Maddie had been meaning to go through it with her for an emergency but they never got round to it.
"Can you tell me your name?"
(Y/n) dragged her eyes up from the man's jacket to look at his face but she couldn't work out what he had said. Confusion had to be clearly written across her face because he repeated himself, but it didn't sink in. Her body was shaking, her nerves were going haywire and the adrenaline made it hard to focus on one thing in particular. She couldn't see what he was saying.
Heat prickled along the back of (Y/n)'s neck and flooded her skin up to her wrists. Blood didn't seem to want to circulate through to her hands that were numb and on fire from panic. When she started to get anxious, she lost the feeling in her hands and they went cold and numb, blood went to the vital organs and forgot about her hands and feet.
Coiling her arms up to her chest, (Y/n) pressed her palms forcefully against the sides of her neck and scratched her nails into the skin at the base of her head.
She could feel each ragged breath that bubbled past her lips. She could smell the petrol, oil and burnt embers floating through the air, rolling into the car along with smoke that had been building up gradually since the moment they all crashed. And (Y/n) could feel her body trembling back and forth in the seat that felt cold against her unusually heated skin.
The man's hand on her shoulder brought her back to reality and she jerked away from him. Her body stayed facing the steering wheel and her elbows dug into her waist until her sides started to hurt. But (Y/n) forced herself to look back at the stranger. She had to communicate with him somehow.
(Y/n) swiped her eyes along her arm to try and clear her eyes and she unhooked one hand from the back of her neck so she could move her shirt. She rolled it up until the end of her shirt was tucked up against the bottom of her bra and her stomach was exposed.
"You're pregnant," Bobby needed assistance here. This girl was going into shock, she wasn't speaking or acknowledging him and she was starting to go into a panic attack. He wasn't getting through to her. "How far along?"
He tried again and kept motioning towards her stomach. He had the right mind to reach out and try to assess her abdomen in case she had sustained any hernia or movement with the baby but he didn't want to touch her when she seemed very unsettled and panicked.
"Five months?" Bobby watched the girl hold out her trembling hand and wave her hand at him and she seemed to nod when he spoke this time. "Can I assess you, what's your name?" He motioned both his hands out towards her but she started to shake her head as tears flushed her face and she began to sob.
With her right hand, (Y/n) pressed her fingers together in a straight line and stuck her thumb up before she looked at the man and started to rub her hand across her chest. Then she curled her fingers into a fist, kept her thumb stuck up and bashed her fist down into her left hand.
'Please help me.'
(Y/n) repeated the action again and then a third time until the man realised she wasn't having chest pains, she was using sign language with him.
She was deaf. Realisation and anger dawned on Bobby. He had wasted time trying to wait for shock to wear off when shock wasn't the problem, communication was.
"Buck?" He leaned towards the open door and grabbed the radio on his jacket.
"Yeah Cap?"
"You know sign language, right?" Bobby tried to think back to the Christmas party a few months ago at the station. Someone had come in to drop gifts off but the old lady only knew sign language and she was over the moon when Evan turned up and started to converse with her. Bobby could use those skills right now.
"Yeah…" Evan didn't like where this was going.
"I need you to come down to the dark green Ford and act as a translator for me. I have a young woman here using sign language and I don't know what she's trying to tell me. Hen, come down for medical assistance too please."
It was one of the few things Bobby was starting to scold himself for. He needed to learn some basic sign language because there were more and more people out in the community who they cared for and Bobby couldn't communicate with them. At least someone on the team had some basic knowledge.
"No, oh no. Please don't be (Y/n)," Evan tilted his head back and closed his eyes, praying to anyone that would listen.
That had to be a coincidence. It had to be circumstantial that there was a deaf woman, driving the same car as his wife, now caught up in a road accident. It had to be someone else. Evan tried not to calculate the odds in his head because deep down, he knew the chances of it being a stranger were very slim.
Evan passed the wrench in his hand over to Eddie before he made off in a jog down the side of the road, doing his best to be quick but safe so he didn't slide down into the ditch beside them.
He could feel his heart dropping down to his gut like a stone when he locked eyes on the number plate.
That was his wife's car.
"Fuck!" Evan ripped his florescent jacket off and tossed it on the floor behind the car, suddenly overcome with heat and panic all at once.
He barely looked at Bobby who eased out of the car, about to smile until he saw Evan's petrified expression. Ducking down, Evan clambered into the car and slumped down into the passenger seat, leaning across the gear stick to reach out for his wife.
"Sweetheart, sweetheart it's me. I'm here, you're okay."
Shockwaves rattled through (Y/n) and sent her shaking in her seat when a pair of familiar hands suddenly cupped her face and tilted her head to the left. Her lips parted and a shuddering breath tremored through her teeth when her eyes locked on Evan. Tears were already welling up in his eyes and his face was starting to turn a dark shade of red (Y/n) wasn't used to. He leaned over until his elbow was pressed into her arm and their foreheads were touching. But when he traced his thumb across her lower lip, a small cry left her lips.
He was here. Evan was on scene. Someone she loved and trusted was here with her. She didn't have to sit here alone, petrified, and wait for someone to come over who would be able to communicate with her. Who better to sit and translate for her than her own husband?
He tilted her head down and pressed his lips longingly to her forehead, taking a second to breathe in her scent and relish in her touch before he gently let go and trailed his eyes up and down her frame.
"Cap, Buck, what have we got?" Hen rounded the other side of the car and worked on wedging the driver's side door open so she could bend down at (Y/n)'s side.
Evan pointed his index finger at (Y/n) before he held his right hand palm- upwards and kept his fingers on his left hand straight as he waved his left hand over his palm as if he was pretending to cut something. 'Are you alright?'
"Her name's (Y/n)… she said she's in pain with her leg," Evan rested his left hand on (Y/n)'s knee for a moment or two and moved his other hand to cup the back of her neck. He reeled her into his chest and kissed the side of her head until (Y/n) grabbed his bicep to gain his attention and her hands started to move.
Hen wasn't used to seeing someone perform sign language but she could tell (Y/n)'s shaking was affecting her ability. She was flexing her fingers to stop them trembling and try to keep herself under control. But Hen didn't like the way Evan's expression started to change and morph into something worried and unsettling.
"Fuck, the airbag didn't activate, she's hit her stomach on the steering wheel and she's five months pregnant."
"I'll check them both over, see if she's okay to transport," Hen rummaged through her bag for her blood pressure kit but she kept darting her eyes back to Evan. Watching the way he leaned over the girl next to him so he could look down at Hen and see what she was doing. He wasn't usually this anxious. "Do you two know each other?" She muttered quietly.
"She's my wife."
Evan dragged his hand down his face and rubbed at his jaw before he dared look back down at Hen. This wasn't how he wanted them all to meet. He didn't want the team seeing his wife in a state like this the first time they came to know her. He wanted to bring (Y/n) to the annual cookout they had at the station and show her the brighter side of the job. He wanted the circumstances to be calm and natural, not forced and in work mode.
"Oh."
"This is Hen," Evan spelled out her name and pointed down to Hen so (Y/n) had an idea of who was around her. And he fumbled for the letters to spell out Bobby and pointed behind him. He was forever talking about the team but he hadn't gotten around to showing (Y/n) any photos of the people he worked with.
Evan smiled reassuringly and mumbled 'blood pressure' whilst doing the sign he had recently learned for when they had their hospital appointments. They had worked all (Y/n)'s appointments around Evan's days off so she didn't have to worry about trying to lip read and use a pen and paper to talk to the midwife. Evan was always there to act as translator.
(Y/n) curled her left hand around Evan's thigh and leaned her head on his shoulder, trying to hold her right arm straight so Hen could slip the cuff up near her shoulder.
She hated having her blood pressure taken. It made her feel light headed and the tightness sent shooting, tingling pains up and down her arm even after the cuff was removed.
Evan peeked his head over (Y/n)'s waist and looked down at the reading on the blood pressure before he glanced down at (Y/n). He curled his fingers together and held his index and middle finger out straight, level with his chest before he raised his hand up towards his forehead. Her blood pressure was high.
When Hen found the stethoscope in her bag, she lifted it up and indicated towards (Y/n)'s stomach. She would listen for a heartbeat. That was the only thing they could check right now. They couldn't do a scan and no physical exam would tell them if there were any issues with the baby. They wouldn't eb able to see if there was any internal bleeding or if the baby or placenta had moved.
(Y/n) would need a scan once she got to hospital, but the important thing right now was finding a heartbeat.
Her hand stayed looped over Evan's thigh and she leaned more into him when the cold end of the stethoscope was pressed against her lower abdomen, making her push back in her seat.
(Y/n) brought her other hand up to her lips and bit down on her nail, trying not to stare down at Hen but she didn't know where else to look or what to do with herself. What if she couldn't find one? What if it was there but very shallow? What would they do?
She bit down so hard on her nail that a pinch of blood welled in the corner of her thumb but she didn't care. Her head turned to look up at Evan and her hand moved from his thigh to grip his shoulder as she took a deep, tremoring breath. Waiting for him to tell her the verdict.
Evan bent his index and fourth finger down to his palm and held his hand over his chest to imply the heartbeat. He then curled both hands into fists against his shoulders and pulled away, unclenching his hands. 'A strong heartbeat.'
He could feel the relief radiate through (Y/n) when she slumped her head onto his shoulder and managed a small smile against his exposed neck. That was one less thing for them both to worry about.
"Okay, I'm going to do a saline drip, then we can get her in the ambulance."
Evan moved his fingers along his other palm to signal that he was going to walk around the car so he could go round to Hen and help get (Y/n) out the car. He hated to unravel (Y/n) from around him and when she reached out to clutch his bicep, he leaned forward and kissed her forehead before he scrambled out so she didn't have a chance to panic or drag him back.
A shiver rolled down (Y/n)'s spine when she felt Hen squeeze her hand and push the needle into the back of her hand.
A calming smile found its way onto Evan's lips when Hen moved out his way and let him take her place, crouching down beside (Y/n). He rubbed his hands up and down her thighs for a few seconds before he gently took hold of her legs and twisted them so her feet were firmly on the floor and she was sat facing him.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" Evan pressed his closed fists together against his chest and moved his thumbs up and down, smiling up at her calmly despite the wince he saw flash across her face.
He watched the way (Y/n) tilted her head to the side when she looked down at him and the deep breaths she tried to take as she blinked furiously, fighting off tears.
Her left hand moved to cup her forehead and she rubbed her index finger along her temple. While her right hand pressed to her bump with only her middle finger curled inwards and she moved her hand from left to right along her stomach.
"What's she saying?"
"She feels sick. That's alright baby," Evan waved his left hand over his right palm to signal that was alright before he pushed up so he was stood up with his upper half bent down towards (Y/n) instead of crouching in front of her.
His hands curled around her elbows and when (Y/n) nodded, Evan carefully eased her up from the car until she was stood in front of him. Her hands clamped down on his biceps and her forehead pressed into the middle of Evan's chest which made him smile. He leaned over and kissed the back of (Y/n)'s head, moving his hand around to her back while he took the IV bag from Hen and balanced it on his shoulder so it was easier to carry around.
Evan kept his right arm around (Y/n)'s waist and tucked her into his side while Hen stood on her other side, wedging her between them as they made a slow descent towards the ambulance.
"Hen, drive them to the hospital, Eddie tag along with them, me and Chim will stay here and sort out."
Evan wordlessly nodded while Hen opened the back doors and then proceeded round to get in the front of the ambulance. They would all reconveen together at the hospital when this scene was cleared up. It looked like Evan wouldn't be staying for the night shift today.
Moving his hands, Evan clamped them down on (Y/n)'s hips and walked behind her into the back of the ambulance. He raised a brow when she turned her head to look up at him and her lips pressed together.
Did she have to sit on the gurney?
Her leg was was aching and most likely bruised but it wasn't broken, she could walk perfectly fine. (Y/n) didn't want to sit on the gurney and be taken into A&E as if she couldn't walk when she could. It made her feel uneasy. She turned in Evan's arms and tried to give him her best smile but sweetening him up wasn't going to work and she could see that in her husband's firm expression.
He let go of her, moved one hand to hold the gurney behind her and pointed at her with the other hand.
"Sit." He knew she could read that one simple word from his lips but when she didn't move, Evan clicked his tongue and reached his hands out for her hips. He could feel her gasp soak up into his shirt when he lifted her up and sat her down on the edge of the gurney and placed the IV bag down on the pillow at the end so it was out the way and wasn't at risk of becoming tangled or blocked.
To make her feel better, Evan turned round and perched down on the gurney with her, swinging his legs back and forth until Eddie hurried up into the back and closed the doors.
Eddie plonked himself down on the seat opposite them with a curious, if apprehensive smile. Why was Evan sat on the gurney with the patient? Why wasn't the patient sat properly? Did they know each other? They seemed to be smiling and looked friendly with one another. Just as Eddie went to say something, he stopped when the girl pointed at him curiously.
(Y/n) gingerly tugged on Evan's shirt sleeve to gain his attention before she pointed over at the man in front of them. She cupped her thumb and index finger around her chin and tilted her finger away from her chin and back, asking who he was.
Evan pressed his thumb into his palm and curled his fingers over until his nails touched the top of his thumb. E.
Then he pointed his index finger upwards and pressed his middle and fourth finger against his thumb. D.
"This is Eddie,"
In sign language, it was easier to refer to someone's name as their first initial and he talked about Eddie a lot to (Y/n). Eddie was his work partner, the person he was always teamed up with and doing various escapades with so it was natural he talked about him. (Y/n) knew the team by the stories Evan told her and this unfortunately had to be the first time she met them.
"Eddie, this is my wife, (Y/n)."
This was turning out to be an interesting day for everyone.
