The Neverland Mermaids appeared in an old Disney comic called "Bubbles the Water Baby."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, they've been given a downgrade on their attire, dressing as blandly as Atlanticans with generic clam bras. Who is which mermaid from the movie is anyone's guess.
Entire comic is here:

The Fifties...The world was still rebuilding itself after the Second World War, and American patriotism was at an all-time high. The public, in turn, demanded champions who reflected and defined their ideals.
Beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Mercury, and stronger than Hercules, Wonder Woman embodied all the positive values of the 1950s. To celebrate the decade, this volume features several never-before-reprinted stories that show the mighty Amazon facing off against menacing robots, aliens, and giants; teaming up with Robin Hood and the Justice Society of America; revealing the origins of her golden lasso, tiara, and invisible plane; and trying her hand at different careers!
Often dangerous, sometimes humorous, but always uplifting, Wonder Woman's adventures in the 1950s exemplify her fortitude, perseverance, and compassion. Join us in honoring Diana of Themyscira's legacy with this collection of tales curated from All-Star Comics, Sensation Comics, and the original Wonder Woman series, written and illustrated by Robert Kanigher, Harry G. Peter, and other talented creators from this classic era.

Pics:
1 to 2 & 5. Covers for collections of Shaver's ideas, as written by others.
3 & 4. Comicbook versions helped popularize the Dero vs Tero 'conflict.'
6. Shaver's 'updates' were always 1st found in Amazing Stories magazine.
1906: The Earth (is) Not Hollow.
Intro: In 1943, Richard S. Shaver wrote a rambling letter to Ray Palmer, editor of Amazing Stories.
Shaver claimed to have discovered 'Mantong' - the Proto-Human tongue from which all Earthly languages now descend from.
Then, after proving to be popular, 5 dozen stories, articles, promos & extracts were written, running from 1945 until 1950.
This "Shaver Mystery" series ran only in Amazing Stories & its sister mag, Fantastic Adventures.
Plot: All of this work detailed an under ground civilization where a war was being waged by the dangerous Deros against the more peaceful Teros!
And how the Deros loved to kidnap, torture & kill surface dwellers!!
Author Output: Shaver used several pen names to author supportive & 'testimonial' works that "backed up" his ideas.
But, the real secret behind all of this printed material was the # of writers that were actually involved.
Ray Palmer, Bob McKenna, Chester S. Geier & other company writers added to the mass of published works.
These extra writers were all needed, as sales of Shaver's tall tales appealed to such a wide audience!
Readers found Shaver's Mystery to be both, seemingly real & compelling. And, they wanted more...
Like Lovecraft allowing others to "play in his sandbox", these writers formed a shared universe of stories.
But, like all things, Shaver mania soon started to wane.
By the 1950s, a new cosmic star started to rise - today's Flying Saucers...
Note: And that wraps up my 'little' side look at Subterranean & Hollow Earth fiction.
(It truly took on a life of its own...)
Tomorrow, we'll turn back to our examination of H.P.L. & his works.
Don't worry, it'll be fairly painless.
Fairly.
I'll even provide a quick overview so we can all catch up...
Ciao.

This WEDNESDAY, March 22 @ 6:00pm EST: COMIC BOOKS & THE TWILIGHT ZONE free webinar! According to Rod Serling’s widow, Carol, Serling was “…an admirer of fantasy and horror tales…his library was full of books by Poe and Lovecraft, Shelley and James, and work by their ‘great-grandchildren,’ published in Fantasy & Science Fiction, Galaxy and If.” But did Serling’s library include comic books, like the 1950’s E.C. science-fiction stories with twist endings that so many Twilight Zone episodes resemble? For the answers to these and other questions—like how The Twilight Zone influenced comic books that came after the series—come to comic book and Twilight Zone historian (Visions from The Twilight Zone and The Silver Age of Comic Book Art) Arlen Schumer’s free webinar, and you’ll see The Twilight Zone, and the comic book stories that both influenced, and were influenced by, the legendary series, in ways that will make you see them all as if for the first time! Alter Ego # 178 November 2022 (magazine review)
Alter Ego # 178 November 2022 (magazine review)
Now here’s something you don’t see every day or even year, an issue of ‘Back Issue’ devoted to one comicbook artist. Editor Roy Thomas says they’ve done it a few times in the past although I have to confess its not in the issues I’ve reviewed, as far as I can remember, so far. This particular 1950s artist is Emil Gershwin, a cousin of Ira and George. The reason he’s less known is because he…
