A.I. Art World In Shock As Leading A.I. Admits To Being Human Artist
FIJMU News 8-12-22 by Erik Snoodmaster
The growing A.I. Generated Art world was surprised and sickened with today’s revelation that the popular visual AI platform known as “Mid-Dali” was in fact merely an artist named Ari Bach.
According to computer graphics expert Ralph Codemonger, “It’s pretty sad when these lousy ‘traditional artists’ pretend to be programming and technology to get ahead in the industry. Bach is an utterly inferior artist and frankly I knew all along that Mid-Dali was a fake from its- his lack of creativity and skill.”
Bach has been charged with fraud and “stolen virtuality” and his drawings, which were falsely pushed on several thousand innocent prompt-requesters an hour, will be refunded. Mr. Bach, pathetic liar to the end, insisted during his arrest, “I swear! I’m not an artist! I’m just some code on a mainframe somewhere!” He was then moved to read-only-memory to await sentencing.
His legal app could not be reached for comment, but it is expected that Bach will be dragged to the recycle bin and over-written.
OpenAI is the developer of DALL-E 2 and ChatGPT. 505 of the approximately 700 employees are threatening to resign and follow Altman to Microsoft, where he was just hired.
I recently started playing with DALL-E 2, which will attempt to generate an image to go with whatever text prompt you give it. Like its predecessor DALL-E, it uses CLIP, which OpenAI trained on a huge collection of internet images and nearby text. I've experimented with a few methods based on CLIP, but DALL-E generates particularly clear, coherent images.
So of course I decided to use it to mess up corporate logos.

Cat face image (middle cat face) was produced by Dall-E 2 with the prompt “two-dimensional ceramic ornament of a cat’s face with eyes closed and big third eye in the middle of the forehead, outsider art.”
I reinterpreted the AI design on a hand-built mug. I attempted to copy the cat’s face, but it looks distorted due to the fact that it’s handmade and because it’s difficult to get a good photo of an image carved on a curved surface. I used two symmetricalized cat faces from each side of the distorted cat face on the cup cool collaged onto another Dall-E 2 image of some cats at a Halloween party in a Soviet propaganda style. Hoping to reinterpret these as masks at some point.
It's called “Catanus” because the cat’s anus is visible under the handle. May sound nasty to the uninitiated, but cat owners will get it.
