The Fourth Day of Christmas ~ Evan Buckley

Prompt: Decorating the Christmas tree

A/N: First time writing Buck, so I hope it's okay!

You struggled to hold the box in one hand as you used the other to twist the key to Buck’s apartment in the lock. You should have just texted him when you were in the elevator, but you figured you’d be fine on your own. You were wrong. The box almost slipped from your hand, but you caught it at the last second. With a sigh of relief, you managed to unlock the door and push it open, “Buck? I’m here.” Before you could even get the door shut, Buck was bounding into the room and taking the box from your hands. You tried to stop him, “I’ve got it.” He gave you a pointed look and you laughed, fully closing the door now, and stepping further into the apartment. Buck set the box on the kitchen island and watched as you looked around at the decorations.

He shoved his hands into his pockets, “So what do you think?” He looked around the room and you smiled as he refused to meet your eyes, instead opting to look around at all the work he had done. There was garland wrapped around the banister of the stairs and lights strung up wherever he could get them. It was colorful and warm

You smiled at him, “It looks great.” He smiled back at you and you clapped your hands together, “Let’s get started on the tree.” You moved over to the box you had brought with you and opened it up. You couldn’t wait to show Buck your ornaments. Each one was unique and held a special meaning to you and you wanted to share that with him. Turning back around, you were met with Buck holding a clear plastic box filled with colorful and glittery baubles. Your eyes moved from the ornaments to Buck’s face and back again, “What are those?”

He followed your gaze down and then he was looking at you again, his eyebrows furrowed, “They’re my ornaments for the tree.” He shrugged one shoulder as you only stared at him, trying to figure out how to word your next sentence.

“No.”

Buck took a small step back, his mouth open and his eyes wide, “No? What do you mean no?” He clutched the box tighter to his chest, turning slightly as if to shield the decorations from you.

You giggled quietly as you stepped forward, “I’m sorry. I just… I meant those are horrible ornaments.” Buck gasped and you giggled again, “It’s just there’s no personality. No sentimental value. Did you get them on sale?” You could see an orange sticker on the side of the box and Buck swiveled again to hide it from you.

“No!” His shoulders sagged and he loosened his grip on the box, “I might have.” His grip tightened again, “There’s nothing wrong with that.”

Stepping forward, you ran your fingers through his hair, noting how he melted into your touch, “Of course not. I just think that you deserve something better.” With slow movements, you took the box of baubles from him and set them on the counter. You took Buck’s hand and pulled him over to the box you had brought with you, “Look at these.” You sifted through your ornaments, pulling them out to show Buck what you meant by better. The agnel that had been on your grandmother’s tree when she was a child, your Baby’s First Christmas ornament, the hand painted ornament you had gotten on your trip to Australia, a plastic bauble that had been filled with fake snow and decorated with stickers by your niece, and the Mickey Mouse ears that you had because he was your favorite character. You gushed over each ornament that you pulled from the box, stopping when you sensed that you had shown him enough to get your point across. Looking away from the box, you smiled, “You see?”

Buck wasn’t looking at your ornaments, he was looking at you, a dopey smile on his face as he nodded, “Yeah. Let’s put them up.” You nodded as you placed the ornaments back in the box and carried the entire thing over to the tree. Reaching in, you grabbed the angel and placed her on the tree. Buck followed suit and grabbed an ornament from the box and hooked it onto one of the branches.

The two of you worked together, Buck occasionally asking you about an ornament and you telling him 10 minute stories for each one. When the box was empty, you moved back to the kitchen and grabbed the baubles. Buck bit back a laugh as you open the cheap plastic container and picked a red and silver one, handing it to him. He took it by the hook as you grabbed another one for yourself. The pair of you moved over to the tree and filled in the empty spaces with your baubles. You grabbed a few more and Buck helped you fix any bare spots.

After the tinsel had been set on the branches, you both stepped back. Buck wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you close to his side. Your head moved to rest on his shoulder as you both stared at the glittery tree. Buck smiled, “It looks perfect.”

You nodded to him, “It really does.” You adjusted your position so you could look at him, “Thank you for inviting me and my ornaments to be part of your decorating.”

With a grin, Buck leaned down and pecked your lips, “Thanks for being part of it.” You smiled at him and turned to look at the beautiful tree once again.

it's gonna be a blue christmas, egotist

it's the most wonderful time of the year - unless you got family issues or live in a third world country in the global south, but hey, we can't all be winners right?

The jolly season descends upon us, and this year I'll be giving into the holiday spirit of over indulgence by doing a whole ass 12 drabbles. It's the 12 Days of Christmas Event! From December 14th to December 25th there'll be one Christmas themed drabbles per day!

With the polls done the character list is made, it has been a ride but hey, that's democracy I guess. But the basic concept worked, and here we have the final result, for each day we have a theme, except for days 10 and 11 where the poll was so close, I decided to just repeat the theme!

❅ 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS MASTERLIST

it was cold and dark as gray clouds loomed heavily above the busy streets of the city. quickly making your way across the sidewalk as you spot your destination just around the corner, silently begging that you can get there before the skies start pouring. this week has been stressful enough and walking in the rain would only add to your frustration.

the holidays have always been a busy time, and although you enjoyed all the activities that came with this season, you couldn't argue how taxing all the hassle was. which is why you decided to give yourself an early christmas gift by booking a full body oil massage to help you destress and relax.

whispering a small “made it'' under your breath when you finally reach the glass doors of the building and step inside, just in time as you look back and notice small droplets of water starting to fall against the glass. the massage parlor you've visited before was booked so after doing a bit of research you found that this one had great reviews and managed to get an appointment that fit your schedule perfectly.

the place was more welcoming than you imagined, the space was lit by a soft light and candles were distributed around the room, some of them scented creating a relaxing atmosphere. your attention is shifted when a tall redhead behind the front desk welcomes you with a friendly smile, dressed in a tight white shirt that shows his pectorals nicely, you couldn't help but sneak a glance at his large muscles while he was busy searching your name in the system.

shooting you another toothy smile as he guides you towards the back, opening the door for you to another room with a similar atmosphere as the lobby, and handing you a soft robe as he instructs you to take off all your clothes and get comfortable while you wait for the masseuse to come service you. thanking him as he shoots you a wink with the same charming smile before he exits the room to give you some privacy.

stripping your clothes and setting them neatly at a nearby desk as you lace the warm robe around your body, walking around the room while you wait as you take in the soft music playing in the background. inhaling a deep breath when the rich smell from the candles fills your senses, picking up one of the unlit candles as you bring it up to your nose to smell it before flipping it over to see the scent notes, already imagining what some of them are since the unique scent of palo santo has been engulfing you ever since you stepped inside the building. combined with the rich smell of cinnamon and star anise that has your body already feeling relaxed the more you breathe in the spiced fragrances.

the door opening behind you pulls you from your trance as you look over towards it, your eyes meeting with the most alluring vermilion irises you've ever seen, as a tall blonde steps inside the room, wearing the same white shirt as the redhead and some white loose pants as he closes the door behind him. giving you a small smile before introducing himself and telling you he would be your masseuse for the day. he said his name was bakugou, and you couldn't help but repeat it in your head as you took in his broad shoulders and wide muscles straining against the tight shirt.

“you like that scent?”he asks, pointing at the candle in your hands.

“yeah!, i already feel relaxed just breathing it in”, you chuckle while placing the candle back where you got it from.

“good to hear it, you ready to start?”, he asks while pulling some towels from the towel warmer and placing them on the massage table.

“mhm”, you hum as you make your way towards the table.

“great, please take off your robe and lie down while i get the oils ready”, he instructs before turning around to give you some space while he grabs the oils and materials from the shelf. you remove your robe and lay downwards on the table, lacing the warm towel over your rear before adjusting your head to lay more comfortably on the table as you let your arms rest by your sides.

“okay, just relax and let me know if anything, yeah?”, he says while placing a bowl of warm oil next to you.

“okay”, you say before taking a deep breath and closing your eyes, focusing on the relaxing music in the background and the soft sound of rain falling against the window while you wait for him to begin the massage.

A bit spontaneous, but this is a fanfic collab event we just came up with today on the discord server, us being @birdofdawning (idea for the fic) @lavendelhummel (advent calendar idea) and myself (collab idea):

24 days of Bering and Wells ficlets, creating a (semi-)cohesive getting together fanfiction! If you want to write for one of the days, sign up in a reblog addition or ask, and your name will be put on the list! You write your ficlet and aim to post it on the corresponding day of December, but as long as it’s posted some time in the month it’s fine. If you can coordinate with the people who post the days before yours, maybe tell us your planned summaries so everyone can adjust accordingly, that’s cool, but if the ficlets don’t fit together perfectly that’s alright, we’re just here to have a fun B&W advent time!

“Never get involved with a roommate!” The fanfic idea is: each day’s title is something Myka tells herself not to do in order to avoid getting involved with Helena, and of course ends up doing anyway.

However, next year we will try to mix it up and re-visit some of the events that didn't make it this year, or some new ones. Except 12 Days of Christmas and the FiKi Week - those are a given.

2023 Wrap

Since there was no Tumblr year in review this time around, I made my own! Ok, full disclosure, I was already going to make my own. For some reason I started tracking everything I posted back at the beginning of the year and last week I totaled things up just for my own information but then I thought…why not share it?

I’m only including fandom stuff here because I do not want to attempt to figure out how many posts I’ve put together for my other lists (Writer’s Corner, ADHD Stuff, Poly Stuff) but my most popular post was this ADHD one. It has over 90,000 notes and is still climbing.

Law’s End: I call this a project, not just a new story because it was supposed to be a bit more far-reaching than just a story with character profiles, mock news articles, and multiple episodes. So far there are two character profiles (graphics for that by @harleybeaumont), one article, and many fabulous extras made by @secretaryunpaid. I am working on wrapping up episode one. Once the question of who killed Trent is answered, episode two will move on to a new mystery, while still focusing on the relationships between the main characters.

Word Warriors: Again, this is more than just a blog. It’s a Discord group, live discussions, a peer support group, and a critique group. The blog itself provides a list of writing resources and advice in addition to information about the Discord group, the live discussion schedule, and notes from past sessions.

Cordonia Royal Airlines: This is more of a collaborative project than a series. There will eventually be images posted as well as drabbles, one-shots, and chapters written by other contributors. (That’s the plan anyway.)

Personal Milestones Passed:

1,000 followers (now over 1,400 but waiting to hit 1,500 to post it)

1,000,000 words posted on Tumblr.

Published my first book in February.

Blog Shut Down:

Who could forget the infamous blog shutdown of 2023? It went down on July 25th and didn’t come back up until August 29th. Well, maybe everyone but me could forget it. I was in withdrawal lol. Five weeks of being mostly off Tumblr forced me to examine and reevaluate a lot of things. And even though I was thrilled to finally be unblocked, things aren’t the same. And that’s okay. Things change, life marches on.

I am by no means saying I’m out of here. Never fear. As long as I have fanfiction to write, I suppose I’ll be posting it here. I just feel less and less like working on my TRR stuff. I still want to finish the series I’ve started, and I’ve found I still have plenty of ideas for one-shots or short miniseries, but I’m not sure I have another epic, long TRR saga in me. Who knows, though? I’ve said that before and been proven wrong. I don’t control when inspiration happens or where the muse takes me.

I don’t know the fate of all those side blogs yet. Since I recently reorganized my master list, (yet again), I don’t know that they are needed. For now, they will remain as basically parking lots. Just a different way to organize my content.

The Rest of Tumblr:

2023 was the year I finally figured out how Tumblr works! I now understand the phrase shitposting on main. I discovered the rest of Tumblr, not just this little corner of it. From Goncharov to other fandoms to the existence of entire communities that I belong wholeheartedly to: Queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, writers, etc. I found my people on this hell site.

What’s Next:

The Choices fandom will always have a special place in my heart, and I have made real, lifelong friends here and for that, I’ll always be grateful. My just over two years here have had their ups and downs for sure, but the ups far outweigh the downs. (If they didn’t, I would have left long ago).

And @harleybeaumont got me to play Heaven's Secret (#romanceclub) and not going to lie, no choose your own adventure story has grabbed my attention like this since TRR. And yes, there is already a folder marked “Heaven’s Secret” on my laptop with three WIPs in it!

Then there’s my original fiction. Long before I found Tumblr and got bitten by the fanfic bug, I was posting flash fic on my own website, saving short stories for submission to anthologies, and working on a few different original novels. I want to get back to that. Not to mention a lifetime worth of poetry that needs to be sorted, organized, and published.

All of the above may have to be put on hold as I navigate life with constant volleyball tournaments, a continuing search for the right second career, and a burgeoning business to manage and contend with. Not to mention a five-year-old with high energy, high needs, and high sensory-seeking behaviors. Life is complex on the best days.

Meanwhile, I’ve found that I really enjoy running the discussions for Word Warriors, giving feedback on other people’s work, and helping other writers on their journey. I can’t wait to get back to that in January.

I don’t know what 2024 holds but I am wishing the best for each and every one of you. Let life’s adventures continue!

The Third Day of Christmas ~ Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin

Prompt: Visiting a tree farm to pick the perfect tree

Pairing: Jake Seresin x reader

Word Count: 862

A/N: This went in a direction that I had not expected, but I really like how it turned out.

The sound of your car door slamming echoed in your ears as Jake stepped over to you, slinging his arm around your shoulder. He pulled you in close as the two of you walked over to the entrance of the local tree farm. There was a big sign next to the table where you paid to get in. Jake squeezed your shoulder, “Look at that, sweetheart. You can cut your own tree.” He smirked over at you, and you snorted a laugh.

“You’re gonna cut down a tree yourself?”

Jake looked offended as he shook his head, “You think I can’t?”

You smiled sweetly at him, “I never said that. I just figured you wouldn’t want to mess yourself up, pretty boy.” You gestured to his hair and clothes, and he scoffed loudly. He opened his mouth to retaliate, but you pulled away from him quickly and skipped over to the table, handing over some money to the teenager sitting behind the table. She gave you a white and green ticket in return and told you to enjoy your day. Jake had caught up to you and pulled you into his side once again, following your lead down the rows of trees. They seemed to go on for miles and you had a good feeling, just knowing that you’d find exactly what you were looking for here.

The two of you had been searching for over an hour and that good feeling was fading fast. You were starting to feel a little discouraged and a little bit worried that you weren’t going to find a tree at all. Jake had continued to point out beautiful trees, but none of them were perfect. You wanted this year’s tree to be perfect. You needed it to be perfect. “What about this one?” You were broken from your thoughts by Jake, who was standing next to a nice seven-foot tree. Stepping over to him, you circled the tree, analyzing every needle and gently prodding every branch. Jake waited quietly while you examined the tree, hoping that it would be the one. You shook your head and his shoulders sagged just slightly.

Pointing to a section near the top of the tree, you looked to your partner, “There’s a hole.” Jake followed your finger, but he couldn’t see what you were talking about. It looked fine to him, just as the ten other trees before this one looked fine.

He sighed, “Sweetheart… these trees have all been fine.” As you turned to him, he placed his hands on his hips, looking up to the sky as he tried to gather his thoughts. And you couldn’t blame him because he was right; the trees had been fine. But…

Shaking your head again, you turned away from him, “Fine is not good enough. Our tree needs to be perfect.” You turned to him again, a small frown on your face and your eyebrows furrowed.

Jake stepped closer to you, his hands resting gently on your shoulders, “Why?”

You refused to meet his eyes as you swallowed, “This is our first Christmas together.” You didn’t say anything else, and you still looked at the ground. Jake’s eyebrows shot up and he resisted the urge to scratch his head.

He tried and failed to catch your eye, “What do you mean? We’ve been together or two years.” You finally looked up at him, stopping him from saying anything else. He stared at you as you shook your head once again.

“Yes, but we each went to our own families places that first year and last year you were overseas.” His gaze softened as you rubbed your arm, “This is the first Christmas we will be spending together in the same place, and I want every part of it to be perfect.” Your gaze drifted to the ground again, your feet shuffling in the dirt. Then Jake’s lips were on yours and your hands were moving to rest on his cheeks. Stepping closer, he deepened the kiss, his own hands moving to rest on your neck.

He pulled away, pressing his forehead against yours, “It’s already perfect.” Your lips split into a smile, and you closed your eyes for a brief moment. Warmth radiated between the two of you and you moved closer, savoring the feeling of him being so near. The chatter of other families picking out their trees drifted over to you, and you opened your eyes again. Jake was still staring directly at you, his grin getting bigger by the second, “Okay?”

You nodded, your fingertips running gently over his cheeks, “Okay. Let’s get this one.” You nodded to the tree next to you and Jake’s grin got bigger if that was even possible. He pulled away from you quickly, shocking you slightly as the cold air hit your face again.

Jake clapped his hands together, “Let’s get chopping.” He turned side to side, searching for an axe probably. You barked out a laugh as you shook your head, watching him find what he needed and make his way over to the tree. That warmth was back, and you couldn’t wait to get your perfect Christmas tree home.

9. Letter to Santa + Anthony Bridgerton

Summary: Gregory and Hyacinth’s letters to Santa got sent to you and you wrote back.

“Santa wrote back!” Hyacinth shouts as she races through the foyer to Anthony’s office.

“What?” Anthony asks as he looks up from his laptop to Hyacinth who is bouncing excitedly on the balls of her feet on the other side of the desk, frantically waving a piece of paper back and forth above her head.

“Santa! He replied to my letter!” Hyacinth repeated excitedly.

“When did you send Santa a letter?” Anthony asks as he tries to wrack his brain. He’d taken Hyacinth and Gregory to a whole host of holiday-related events over the last few weeks. 

Mum had been swamped with work, the holidays being the busiest time of the year of a caterer. And so He’d taken his youngest siblings to their school holiday program, ice skating in the city center, the Christmas panto, and helped them make so many assorted cookies for their teachers that he still smelled like gingerbread.

But he had no memory of a trip to meet Santa, or of dropping off letters somewhere that would deliver them to “Santa.”

“I put it in the mailbox of the storybook house,” Hyacinth replies in her know-it-all tone that makes whatever she’s saying sound as though it’s obvious. “I wanted to make sure that it got to the north pole in time.”

“Right, of course,” Anthony plays along. “Why don’t you go find Daphne and Amelia and show them the letter?” He redirects his youngest sister. Figuring that as a new mother, Daphne would have plenty of patience for their sister and hopefully figure out what exactly was going on while he wrapped up a few more emails before the end of the day. 

When Anthony finally reappeared from his home office he found Daphne and Simon sitting alone at the kitchen table while the rest of the family was watching a Christmas movie in the living room.

“Look who finally joined us,” Daphne teases as she stands from the table to head into the kitchen. “Let me grab your plate.”

“Isn’t the whole point of being a higher-up at your company that you make the people who report to you work on the holidays so that you can enjoy time with your family in your expensive vacation home?” Simon asks.

“I’d rather not have those employees and their family’s constantly plotting my murder. Thank you,” Anthony tells his brother-in-law/best friend. “Besides, I take plenty of time off to spend time with you lot, it’s still over a week until Christmas.”

“But you make the rest of us look lazy, working all day while we stuff ourselves with your mum’s shepherd’s pie,” Simon replies with a fake pout as he gestures to the second helping sitting in front of him as he pats his stomach.

“You said it, not me,” Anthony quips. “Thanks, Daph,” He adds as Daphne places the reheated plate in front of him.

“So what was all that about a letter from Santa?” Anthony asks.

“Apparently, she put her letter to Santa in the mailbox of the house on Homestead Road, Hyacinth always calls it the storybook house because it looks like it’s out of a fairytale,” Daphne tells him with an amused shrug. “So I guess whoever lives there humored her and wrote back as Santa.”

Simon changes the subject while Anthony tries to rack his brain dying to remember who lives in that house.

Which is why, on Sunday morning, Anthony finds himself standing on the front step of the “storybook house.”

He’s surprised when a young woman opens the door.

“Hi, how can I help you?” You ask as you cross your arms over your chest, your baggy sweater not doing much to block the gust of cold air that blows through the open doorway.

“Hey uh, this is going to sound really weird, but I think you got my sister’s letter to Santa,” Anthony explains with a sheepish look.

“Ah,” You say with a nod and an understanding smile. “You must be one of Hyacinth and Gregory’s brothers,” You reply.

“Greg wrote to you too?” Anthony asks as he groans internally, rubbing at his chin as he tries to formulate his apology to this poor, kind woman. 

“I’m guessing you’re Anthony, at least, I hope you’re the serious brother, I’d hate to think there’s a brother even more uptight than you, you look like you’re going to give yourself a hernia,” You reply with a small burst of laughter.

“I’m sorry, my mum’s swamped with work right now, so I’ve been picking up the slack, but I must have forgotten about mailing their letters to Santa,” Anthony tries to explain.

“It’s alright. It sounds like your family’s been through a lot, and with eight kids I figured you could use a hand,” You reply.

“There was a lot of personal information in those letters, I guess stranger danger isn’t really a thing when it’s Santa,” Anthony says.

“Can I, Did they, what did they ask for?” He asks after a moment.

“You can have the letters,” You tell him. “Come on in, I’ll go grab them for you.”

“They’re sweet kids,” You comment as you lead Anthony through your house into your kitchen. “And they clearly adore their older brother, there’s a very thorough description of the gingerbread versions you made them of your family in Hyacinth’s letter.”

You circle your kitchen table until you find the letters and pluck them up. 

“Here they are!” You tell him happily as you pass them over to him. Watching with amusement as he pulls the lined paper out of the bright red envelopes.

“I can’t believe you really read these, and then wrote back to them,” Anthony says with a shake of his head. “You didn’t need to.”

“It was nothing, really,” You insist. 

“It was nice, I uh, well my family isn’t close by so it was nice to do something festive,” You admit. “I used to write a letter to Santa every year as a kid, and my dad, he would always promise me he’d mailed it to Santa, and a few weeks before Christmas I’d get a letter from him, and obviously, looking back, it was my dad, but I kept every single one of them.” 

“Well, thank you, you made their year,” Anthony tells you.

“Do you- Would you want to come over for hot cocoa tonight?” He asks. “You’ll have to keep your identity secret but uh, we could use some of your festive spirit in our house.”

“I’d love to,” You reply with a smile.
