Ellie Headcanons!

I love she. I've been thinking about her a lot lately so I've decided to share some HCs. Both recent ones and ones I've been kicking around in the past.

Her full name is Elinor Madison Hayden.

She grew up on a farm, as I stated before. Her father is the farm's owner, while her mother is an animal carer. Ellie grew up among nature and animals and thus has a strong admiration for them, just like Gabby. Her family in general is utterly chaotic, but they love her and she loves them just as much.

Her mother named her for the titular character of Elinor Wonders Why - a show Ellie grew a strong love for growing up. Bluey is also a family favorite.

Her favorite food is pumpkin pie, especially when baked by her uncle.

She owns a lot of stuffed animals. Not quite as many as her girlfriend but still a respectable amount. Especially bunnies!

She's a very big pop-punk fan. Some of her favorite artists include Boys Like Girls, The Maine, Dashboard Confessional, Yellowcard and All-American Rejects. Her all-time favorite song is, as I mentioned before, "Only One" by Yellowcard. She's also someone who regularly listens to different pop-punk albums every day and thus she's had a lot of wonderful experiences hearing new songs and bands. In particular, "A Twist in My Story" by Secondhand Serenade is one album that had her in tears.

She happens to be an amazing singer, too. (wishing so bad we could have a DC musical season)

Though, she's not particularly a great dancer...she often needs Gabby to help her out lol. But with Gabby's guidance, the girlfriends have shared some amazing slow dances in nature.

Autumn and spring are her favorite seasons. Autumn for the general coziness, warm lattes, orange leaves and happy vibes. Spring because she loves when it starts to warm up again after winter, and also she loves the smell of spring flowers so much. Getting to know Gabby has her loving spring even more - seeing Gabby's energy whenever spring starts is always adorable to her!

I've already mentioned that Ellie's favorite flowers are peonies and lavender (if you count that as a flower lol) but she also loves roses, gardenias, lilies of the valley, hyacinths just like Gabby, jasmine and lilacs. ...Okay she loves most flowers lol. In general, flowers have always been something Ellie has loved. Whenever her jobs were stressing her out, Ellie finds some time to spend admiring flowers, and it calms her down. Gabby has taken notice of her girlfriend's love of flowers and thus uses floral-scented products to wash both herself and the girls' belongings, and Ellie finds it so utterly heavenly.

Ellie's interest in fashion sprouted when she caught some My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on television as a young girl and really admired Rarity's eye for fashion. Her father also has an old friend who is in fashion school.

At school, Ellie made a couple friends, but was also picked on a lot for her looks and being too much of a "girly girl" for her fashion interest and love of flowers.

Ellie realized she was bisexual not long after joining high school, where she started crushing on two different people - a quarterback boy, and a girl on the soccer team. Her family accepted her the very nanosecond she confessed.

She ended up asking both suitors out, but neither went all that well. While the quarterback let her down gently, the soccer player rejected her pretty brutally, pushing her onto the crowd and calling her nasty names. Ellie didn't ask anyone out again for a while after that. Falling deeply for Gabby truly changed her life.

In spite of her enjoyment of fashion and beauty stuff, Ellie generally doesn't use make-up. It's not her style...and she's pretty allergic to lots of make-up products anyway.

She gives AMAZING hugs. (Might as well be canon)

Her dad has an old Gamecube which Ellie plays a ton, often with Gabby and a couple of their other friends outside DC. Her favorite game for the system is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. You can bet she turned into a squealing little ball of joy when the remake is announced, and now she has a Switch on pre-order!

As a kid she made friends with one of the pigs on her family farm, a girl named Amelia, and spent time every day going to see her and play with her. She loved that pig dearly. Sadly, Amelia ended up passing away not long after she returned from season 1, devastating Ellie. Luckily she did have Gabby as her shoulder to cry on in those tough times.

In general, being with Gabby has helped brighten Ellie up considerably in her daily life. Sure she's pretty cutthroat when it comes to high-stakes reality TV shows like Disventure Camp, but when she's not in a competition, she's a sweet and tender soul. Her family in general is grateful to Gabby for bringing so much happiness out of their little girl. 💖

I've probably forgotten some but whatever, these are just a few of the ones I have.

Miguel breathes in heavily, his chest heaving as he lets it out. His head throbs from lack of sleep, yet can never bring himself to do so. Every time he closes his eyes he sees you. Your smile, your daughter, your family, and then in a flash—he sees a glitch.

And now you’re crying. He sees the image of you staring wide-eyed at him as you hold Gabby tightly in your arms, sharing the same terrified look he had on his own. It haunts him, embedded deeply in his mind as something he will never forget.

Another flash—and you’re gone.

He wakes up in a pool of sweat. It’s not worth it. He thinks, throwing himself back into work. Better than having to see the expressions you and Gabby had before… He shakes his head. Best not to think of it.

“Miguel,” he hears Peter B call for him. “This isn’t healthy, man. You gotta take it easy. You know, eat something? And when was the last time you got any sleep?”

Miguel ignores him, continuing his focus on the screens, watching.

“Miguel,” he tries once more—and again, he is met without an answer. Sighing, Peter walks up to Miguel, grabs him by his shoulder, and forces the stubborn man to look at him. Peter is shocked by what he sees.

His friend looked sickly. His once tan skin was now a shade of pale, and his eyes were sunken in. He looked malnourished. Weak. His once muscular body held no structure.

“Christ Mig,” Peter spoke again.

Miguel shook him off, mumbling something about getting back to work.

“I need to fix this. I need to come back to her, I need her to come back to me.” He ranted under his breath.

To Peter, it was like looking at a mirror. But rather than a pitiful Peter Parker from his past, he is met with an even pitiful version of himself: Miguel O’Hara.

“She’s not coming back, Miguel. And neither is Gabby,” he grimaced, but it had to be said.

That got his attention.

Miguel swung his sickly body to stare daggers into Peter’s eyes. “You don’t know that,” he started. “I’m so close. Just a couple more days or months and she’s back. They'll both be back."

“Or never, Miguel! Do you seriously think doing all this is going to get them back?” He paused, “Think about it. By some miracle you end up ‘fixing it,’ then what? You'll bring them here?”

Exasperated Peter continues, “Her universe will be put in danger, just like the other one! Worse, by some rarity she manages to stumble into the Spider-Verse, she steps one foot onto this Earth and we’re all fucked. You can't keep hoping that enough tweaking on that gizmo will let you defy the boundaries of the universe!" Miguel twitches.

"What happened before was enough—this is all insane, Miguel. And I'm not going to sit here and watch you kill yourself!" Peter barks out.

Miguel turned back around, huffing stubbornly, and grabbed the syringe on his desk before injecting himself with it.

Taking in a shaky breath, he grunted, "Get out."

"Miguel, c'mon–"

“I said, get out!” Miguel roared, and this time Peter got the memo.

"Fine! Whatever. Kill yourself for all I care," Peter muttered—slamming the door shut as he left.

After what felt like hours Miguel sat back down with a shaking body. His limbs shook and his eyes were blurry. Calm down, he grasped onto the desk edge like a lifeline to stabilize himself.

When he finally caught his breath, he mumbled the same mantra about finding you.

OC Intro: Family Edition - Part: 3 of 5

We're going back to OC intros, (Yes, I know have too many OCs, and I'm not even halfway done with introducing them all, but that's what the OC page is for.) and we're starting with Derek's best friend, André Lawrence, and his lovely little family, consisting of Gabby Patton-Lawrence, and their 6 month old, Breana Lawrence.

NOTE: These are all newer characters of mine that I’m still developing. Details are subject to change, but here’s what I’ve got for them so far.

André Lawrence (He/Him)

Age: 33 || Birthday: May 3rd ♉ || Traits: Active, Bro, Family-Oriented, Cheerful || Height: 5'6"ft || Sexuality: Heterosexual || Occupation: Personal Trainer || ethnicity/nationality: African-American

André is Derek’s best friend and current personal trainer. The two of them became fast friends back in middle school during their first day of sixth grade P.E., when André —who was the more athletic of the two— decided to stick up for Derek when some girls were poking fun at him for struggling to finish his laps for the day. André decided to run off the bleachers and run alongside him until he finished his laps, despite André having just finishing his own set From then on, they became each other’s hype men, with André encouraging Derek to join him as he got more involved in school athletics, while Derek supported André through his transition, becoming the first person to accept him as André in secret during their 8th grade year.

In high school, they decided to take a weight-lifting class together, where André discovered his love for the sport and began to explore the possibility of becoming a competitive weightlifter in the future. He would then go on to graduate high school and pursue his studies in sport management with a goal to become a certified personal trainer who competes on the side. As he began his physical transition through college, with the newfound support of his family, he and Derek would continue to meet up for their workouts and weekend video game nights, making André a bit of an uncle figure for Derek’s daughter, Angie, as she grew up.

Through the pandemic, when gyms were closed and André was out of his usual, in-person, personal training work, he and Derek developed a routine of daily video chatting through their workouts sessions and online gaming. However, with the recent birth of André’s stepdaughter, Breana, and the world starting to open back up, they don’t have as much time to hangout these days, dignity or IRL. Then suddenly, one day, André received a call from Derek asking for advice on how to best help a transwoman he found on his way home from work on the coldest night of the year, and this is where his side of the story begins.

Gabby Patton-Lawrence (She/Her)

Age: 33|| Birthday: January 10th ♑ || Traits: Quick Learner, Bookworm, Loyal, Family-Oriented || Height: 5'4"ft|| Sexuality: Bisexual || Occupation: Kindergarten Teacher || ethnicity/nationality: African-American

Gabby and André have quite a bit of history between them. Gabby actually went to the same elementary school as André when they were kids, and they were swing buddies on the playground during 4th grade. He developed a huge crush on her in 5th grade, but she was starting to get interested in some of the boys in class, so André did his best to hide his feelings from her, until she and her family moved out of town during the second half of the school year. Several years later, Gabby and her family moved back in town, just in time for their junior year, were they found each other again and started dating until their graduation, where they mutually decided dating long-distance through college probably wouldn’t work for them.

Fast forward to late 2018, when Gabby and her now ex-husband where in an on-and-off separation, and she decided to give André a call to reconnect. At first, she though it was just going to be a cute, platonic thing, but she quickly caught feelings for him again, and began to see her ex less and less as she and André picked up where they left off. When her divorce was finalized in early 2020, she quickly moved in with André, only to discover she was pregnant as the lockdown began. André was a good sport though and helped her through her pregnancy, having always wanted to be a parent himself. The two of them decided to tie the knot in the middle of the pandemic in a courthouse ceremony over zoom.

Now with the sudden push to “end the pandemic,” Gabby has grown conflicted on what to do. She’s getting called to return to her in-person job as a kindergarten teacher, but between not wanting to get sick on the job with a baby at home, and her new husband not really having consistent work himself, she’s not exactly sure how well things are going to work out financially for them is she doesn’t return to work. Part of her wants to stay home to take care of baby Breana and maybe start planning a “real” wedding ceremony for her and André, but the extra money from teaching in person again— albeit a very small amount— would definitely be nice too. What’s a mother to do?

Breana Lawrence

Age: 6 months || Birthday: June 18th ♊ || Traits: Calm || Height: 25 3/4 inches || ethnicity/nationality: African-American

She's just a little baby, but she's super into sweet potato purée right now, absolutely hates oatmeal and bedtime, but loves André so much that it makes Gabby cry sometimes. She has yet to meet her biological father, but honestly, he doesn't seem to care about her existing yet. Who knows if that will change once the guy finally decides to mature, whenever that maybe. 🙄

Brittany/Bretagne/Briezh - partie trois

It is October 7 and we have been home 5 full days. I am back on Michigan time but due to my new "job" (watching Freya on Tuesdays and Fridays) there has been little time to sit and write. It doesn't mean I haven't been having a blast explaining about PSI and gravity and how a pump works. I have such a receptive student...

Mark has also had different duties - and the cornbread taste test went very well.

But back to our trip...

Gabby and Danielle left to return to their home about an hour away after breakfast this morning. Sometime during our often broken conversations in Franglish, we discovered that Gabby and Danielle are sailors and have a Beneteau 48 ft sailboat. That gave Gabby and Mark plenty to try to talk about. (Gabby's English is so much better than Mark's French - but they did communicate without too much trouble. Gabby and Danielle are a delightful couple and we look forward to seeing them next year in California.

The day was overcast and threatening rain - but full speed ahead. Francoise suggested we take a road trip to see Côte de Granite Rose (The Pink Granite Coast) about an hour away. She had other things to show us on the route too. So off we went.

Carl was driving, Mark was in the front seat and Annie, Francoise and I were in the back seat - BUT the only person who knew where we were going was the only non-native English speaker. One would like that everyone would just listen carefully to Francoise - but NOPE! Everyone - including the car GPS - had a plan. But Francoise pushed forward and got us to everywhere she had planned. (Damned pushy, pig-headed Americans!!).

And what a treat for us! We stopped for some lovely views along the way and then we arrived. The coast is indeed Pink Granite! Francoise was disappointed that it was overcast because the sunshine makes the place much pinker to the eye - but we loved it clouds and all.

I could not help but see the resemblance to the Canadian North Channel where Mark and I spent 15 magnificent summers on our sailboat.

It is as if these locations so far away shared the same planet - or something. Beauty abounds.

The weather threatened rain - but it held off until we were having a lovely lunch by the harbor. After a lovely lunch Francoise had another trick up her sleeve - a trip to a sleepy village named Tréguier established during the 6th century and somehow escaped destruction during WWII. It was delightful.

But then, we turned the corner and saw this:

WHAT!?!? A massive cathedral in this tiny town!?!?!?

The history of this still active Catholic Cathedral - this not really a cathedral - is fascinating. A "Cathedral" is the church of a bishop and this place hasn't had a bishop since 1802, however the church is still referred to as Tréguier Cathedral or Saint Yves' Cathedral.

I'm lifting this right off the WWW. "It was in the 6th century that Anglo-Saxon invasions caused Saint Tugdual to leave Wales and settle in Brittany. Tugdual had been a pupil at the monastery of Llanwit Major founded by Saint Iltud, but now, with his mother and several fellow monks, he braved the seas and settled in Brittany at a point where the rivers Guidy, Jaudy and their estuary joined and eventually and in around 532, founded a monastery there which he called "Landreguer" ("the monastery of three rivers") and around this monastery and the village of Minihy grew what was to eventually be the town of Tréguier."

From that monastery grew a church - made of wood. After Tugdual was made a saint and was buried there and a few hundred later it was decided that this place needed something a LOT better than a wooden church -- so in 970 a new cathedral was built in the Romanesque style. Only a little bit of it remains - look at the tower in the center of the picture below. If the windows have a round top - Romanesque. If the windows are arched - Gothic. Cool huh?

In 1339 - the construction of the Gothic cathedral began to replace the completely old fashioned and way too small Romanesque building. Why had it become too small? St. Yves. In 1252, the soon to be Saint Yves, a native son of Brittany was born. He proved to be a brilliant student, a pious, kind and generous man and from the website Catholic Saints: "During a famine God almighty came to the assistance of his generosity by visible miracles. A flour bin which a domestic had found empty was found filled when Yves himself went with the domestic to examine it. Once he fed two hundred hungry persons with seven loaves of bread; at another time he fed twenty-four persons with a small loaf." TA-DA!!! Upon his death in 1303 he was buried next to Saint Tugdual. And at that point this church became a pilgrimage destination.

Anyway, what we see today is what happened from 1339 to the 1700s as the cathedral grew. It is quite impressive inside and out.

I loved the cloisters.

We walked around this quaint little village and then headed back to Loguivy de la Mer.

There were naps and downtime and then our darling hostess, Francois took her position back in the kitchen meeting all our needs before we even knew we had them. What a sweetheart! Nos chérie!

Carl has developed a cough and feels a bit rundown, so tomorrow he will rest while the we go to Île de Bréhat for the day. Our time here is quickly drawing to a close and I will truly be sad to leave. This part of the world is just extraordinary and let me say again - we have been treated like royalty by our wonderful hosts.

We finished the night with a card game with Francoise by my side learning. Tomorrow night she will sub in. Fun in Brittany/Bretagne/Breizh!!
