Lucia let out a breath as she laid down on her bed after the crazy long day she has had. Lucia has been in New Jersey for four weeks now and she has played in multiple games already and she feels like she’s getting use to playing professionally.

They had just played the fifth game of the playoffs series against the rangers last night and had won 4-0. They are 3-2 in the series with the Rangers right now.

Lucia turned on her phone for the first time all day and frowned slightly seeing the hundreds of messages and missed calls but decided to not click on them assuming they were just group chats and the boys spamming her. She clicked on instagram and the first post she saw made her heart drop in her chest.

She quickly sat up and looked at the screen intently, Mackie had a girlfriend? A girlfriend he was hard launching with. Did the girlfriend know about her. Lucia felt sick. She has the scratches and bruises from the last time she spent with Mackie still on her body and he’s posting with another girl.

Lucia quickly turned her phone off and tossed it onto bed before she hurrying up and rushing to her bathroom and puking out her guts. Lucia dry heaved as she tried to catch her breath.

Lucia didn’t know what to think. She’s been hooking up with Mackie for almost two years and she knows they officially never had a girlfriend/boyfriend title but they promised to not sleep with anyone else. Hell, Mackie introduced her to his friends from home calling her his girl.

Lucia could feel her skin crawling remembering his hands on her and wondered if he’s touching his girlfriend like he touched her.

She shakily stood up wiping the back of her hand over her mouth. She walked to her shower putting it on the hottest setting and quickly stripped out of her clothes and hurrying under the boiling water and starting to scrub at the places that still have any reminders of him left.

Lucia leaned her head onto the cold wall, a stark contrast to the boiling water. Her heart felt like it was chipping slowly and she hated it. She hated that someone could hurt her this bad. She hated that she trusted him enough to love him. She hated herself for falling for him.

She remembered when her mother talked about her first heartbreak and Lucia resented the fact she feels the exact same way as her mother described.

She wasn’t supposed to get hurt. She wasn’t supposed to care for him.

Lucia stumbled out of the shower and threw on random clothes not caring what it was. She walked over to her bed and flopped down staring at her ceiling.

She was glad Jack was out for the night and she didn’t have to deal with trying to explain anything about this to him.

Lucia ignored the vibrating of her phone and chose to continue to stare at her ceiling for hours.

She didn’t even realize she spent so many hours staring at her ceiling until the sun started to come through her windows and looked at the clock seeing it was already almost seven in the morning.

Lucia took a deep breath and sat up, she needed to do something to get enough of her emotions out for her to focus on her game tonight.

She put on a pair of running shorts and a hoodie, slipped on running shoes before heading out of the apartment into the gym in the building.

Lucia hoped right onto the treadmill and slipped her noise canceling headphones and just ran.

Running to get out all of the emotions and just staring out the window and running.

Lucia could feel the sweat dripping down her but it was a good distraction from feeling anything else.

Her phone buzzed with an alarm and she looked down still ignoring all of the notifications and saw she needed to get back and get ready for the game.

Lucia hopped off the treadmill and she realized she ran for three hours and didn’t stop.

Lucia headed back up to Jacks apartment and walked in seeing Jack chilling on the couch on his phone.

“Hey moosey!” Jack’s head snapped up at the sound of the door opening and saw Lucia in workout clothes and flushed in the face but had really dark circles under her eyes, “Hey did you get any sleep?” Jack looked at her in concern wanting to make sure her rookie year wasn’t getting to much already.

“Yeah i did must still be tired, i’m gonna try to get a nap before we leave.” Lucia smiled tightly and Jack nodded looking reassured.

Lucia let out a breath as she turned down the hallway, she didn’t know what hurt more. The fact she had to lie to her brother as they weren’t close enough anymore to talk to him about Mackie or the fact that Jack didn’t even know she was lying straight to his face.

Lucia walked into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror and groaned frustrated at herself, how could she fool herself into thinking he loved her back and why did she think it was a good idea to want to confess to him in the future but she obviously wouldn’t amymore.

Lucia ran a hand through her sweaty hair and decided to grab her phone that was still sitting on her bed and of course the first notification was from Mackie, she clicked on it wanting to know what bullshit he has to say.

He doesn’t want you anymore sweetheart. Block his number.

“Bitch.” Lucia cursed as she realized his girlfriend knew about her and still was with him. Lucia shook her head and decided the two deserved each other.

Lucia saw she had thousands of messages from her three best friends and she knew they knew about this but she couldn’t talk to them right now, it would make it hurt all over again.

Lucia looked at her home screen and saw a photo of their group at Michigan and she angrily scowled at how she was in Mackie’s arms and the bright smile on her face, Lucia quickly changed it to whatever photo she saw first that didn’t have Mackie in it.

Today is Saturday the boys just won their first game of the season. I’ve been dating Johnny for about two years now, we’ve been dating since high school, I’ve been busy with sophomore year beginning so the only thing I’ve been doing is doing homework, hanging out with Johnny, and going to watch him play, I haven’t had time to meet his new teammates, tonight was going to change since the sophomores are throwing a party to celebrate the win.

Johnny had texted me before the game to meet at his house after the game, so I made my way to the house. Once I got there, I made my way to his room so I could drop my bag and to change out of my hoodie and into a white babaton long sleeve bodysuit to go with the light blue mom jeans I was wearing.

Once I was ready, I heard the door of the bedroom open and close, I felt arms wrapped around me and a kiss to my cheek making me smile.

“Hey babe, you had an amazing game” I told him

“Thanks babe, I love you” 

“I love you too” 

“You ready to go downstairs?” he asked

“Yes, let’s go” I said grabbing his hand and going downstairs.

We both went and got ourselves some drink and went to hang out with some of the other sophomores.

Dylan was talking our ears off, and I finished my drink, so if I need to keep hearing Dylan talking I need another drink.

“I’m going to go get myself another drink” I told Johnny, he nodded.

I made my way to the kitchen and opened the fridge to get any other beer.

“Hey, you’re really pretty, I’m Ethan” Ethan said when I turned around.

I knew he was on the team since Johnny had told me about him.

“I’m y/n” I replied, why not mess with him.

Ethan continued to flirt with me, I was not flirting back but he wasn’t getting the hint. I saw Johnny making his way over to us.

“Oh that’s hilarious” Johnny said laughing when he stood next to me.

“What, me flirting with a girl?” Ethan asked in disbelief.

“No, you flirting with my girlfriend” 

“WHAT?”

“Ethan meet y/n, my girlfriend” Johnny said introducing us.

“I think I might love you.” Johnny whispered as he ran his fingers through your hair.

You two were currently cuddled up on his couch in his apartment, your head against his chest.

“You- what?” You asked, confusion striking your features. You weren’t sure how to respond to your boyfriend of just a few months.

Sure, you had known him for a while because of Jack, but still.

Throwing around the L word wasn’t something you took lightly.

“I think I love you.” He repeated, more firmly.

He knew he did, he just didn’t know how to tell you; or when.

He knew weeks ago when he saw you in his apartment, in his tshirt at his stove. He was watching you cook breakfast and knew this was something he could wake up to every day.

He knew then he loved you.

“Why?” You murmured out.

“Well,” he shifted as he slowly moved to lean against the headboard, your head now resting on his torso, “First of all, I adore how much you love your family. How protective you are over Luke, hell even Jack and Quinn.” He started as he ran his hands over your arm, “I love how your eyes light up when you see your friends, family, anyone you love. I love that smile that’s on your face when you see a dog in the streets or in a video on tiktok.” He continued on, “I love how demented your mind is when there’s something you laugh at that honestly, you probably shouldn’t have,” he chuckled as you let out a laugh at that, “See? Inappropriate timing.” He pointed out, “and that’s just a few things that I adore and love about you.”

“When did you know?” You asked sheepishly.

“I knew from the moment I met you,” he said, “but it really set in a few weeks ago when you spent the night.”

You gave him a smirk as you looked up at him, “That was a good night.”

“It sure was.” He grinned down at you, “Seeing you that morning, in my clothes, in my house? Made me want to relieve that entire night again.”

“Well we can always relieve it again,” you replied as you ran your hand over his chest, “Oh! And,” you laughed, “I think I might just love you too.”

new team, new city

April 8, 2023

Lucia was in her blue pinstripe suit and just finished pinning up her braided crown, when a knock was at the door and Jack peeked in smiling at his sister, “You ready moosey?” Jack was ecstatic and had been waiting for the day that his sister was finally joining him.

“Yeah.” Lucia looked over and nodded grabbing her hockey bag and followed Jack out of her new room in Jack’s apartment.

Lucia had gotten into New Jersey late a day ago and Jack had picked her up at the airport, She had quickly fell into bed once Jack showed her, her room.

Lucia followed Jack out of the apartment and into the parking garage and hopped into the car.

Lucia sat pretty silent as Jack yapped to her the entire car ride to the Prudential Center.

“You ready for this?” Jack looked over at his baby sister once he parked the car, he is trying to be a good supporter for his sister especially for her rookie year and he knows it’s gonna be hard for her because she’s the first woman to ever be drafted to the NHL and to be signed to a team.

“Might as well be.” Lucia dismissed his concerns just shrugging and hoping out of the car grabbing her very large hockey bag and throwing it over her shoulder and following Jack into the arena.

Jack brought her to the room where she had to have a meeting with the managers and team for her contract and everything involving that, Jack opened the door and gave her one more reassuring glance and patted her shoulder encouraging before walking away to his physical therapist training.

Lucia took a deep breath and headed into the room, she shook everyone’s hands and introduced herself. A staff member took her hockey bag for her.

They basically were going over everything, contracts rules and what she shouldn’t do and public appearances and all of that. Lucia hated it but knew she had to listen to all of it. It took over an hour and they were done.

Tom walked her over to another room where they were waiting for her to sign her contract and had some media there already.

“Where do you want me signing?” Lucia asked as she picked up the pen.

“Alright, right here.” Tom told her pointing to the line on the papers in front of them, “Who’s the witness?” He questioned.

“Uh Jack.” One of the team members told him.

“Oh yeah he’ll come in.” Tom nodded and pointed at the papers, “Alright you sign up.”

Lucia nodded and started signing her name ignoring all the clicks from the camera.

“And don’t put your number.” Tom teased her making Lucia let out a breathy chuckle and she looked up dropping the pen. Tom grabbed the pen and started signing.

Tom smiled and turned to her holding out his hand and they faced the cameras shaking hands.

Jack walked in with a grin and protein shake in his hand, “What up Rowdy.” Lucia greeted as she heard him walk in. Jack smiled and walked over patting his baby sister’s shoulder.

“You’re the witness bud.” Lucia piped up as she saw the proud smile on her brothers face. Jack set his drink down and hopped into the seat next to his sister and started signing the papers.

“Alright sweet.” Lucia mumbled as they stood up.

Jack smiled softly and proudly pulling her into a tight hug, “Congrats Moose.” He pressed a soft kiss to the side of her head.

“Thanks.” Lucia nodded at her big brother before she was dragged away to do media.

Jack was only asked to do a small interview so he watched his baby sister with a proud smile.

Lucia was finally released from media as they had to head to Boston, she knew wasn’t playing that game but she would be practicing with the team in Boston.

“Ready?” Jack asked swinging an arm over his baby sister, Lucia hadn’t been able to meet many of the team as she didn’t have a training camp and she has been in Michigan, she’s only met a few teammates and that’s because Jack brought them home.

Jack led her out of the room and they saw Nico waiting out side of the room on his phone, Nico heard the door open and he clicked his phone off and smiled, “Hello Lucia.” Nico greeted warmly having met her a few times in person and many times from Jack on facetime.

“Hey.” Lucia nodded back and shook Nico’s hand.

Nico walked with the two towards the rest of the team, Nico and Lucia both let Jack yap to them they could tell he was exicted and the two shared a fond look.

Lucia had quickly been fond of Nico when she met him as he reminded her so much of Quinn.

Jack opened the doors to the room the players wait to get on the bus to the plane, the team all knew they were getting a rookie joining them soon especially because Jack has been very exicted and talking about it nonstop.

“Little Hughes!” Nate smiled and quickly got up pulling her into a hug, Jack had introduced them a while ago and he has spent some time at the lake house.

“Hi Bas.” Lucia mumbled hugging his gently.

Jack face was just stuck in a proud expression as he watched his sister meet their team.

Everyone who was in the room already all got up and introduced themselves to Luica.

John walked into the room seeing the team all standing up and around each other and he figured Jack’s sister was here.

John noticed first was her eyes, they were brown but had such an interesting brown shade to them, such a warm chocolate color something he has never noticed about anyone else before but he shook that thought off and walked over to his team.

“Ah Moose this Johnny boy.” Jack smiled wrapping an arm around his sister turning her to John.

Lucia quickly looked at him and nodded politely and John simply smiled nodding back.

After she was introduced to her new team they all headed to the bus, Jack made sure Lucia was sitting with him, he hasn’t see him sister since Christmas so he was taking advantage of being with her now.

The bus drive the team to the airport and everyone walked up the stairs of the airplane and Jack didn’t even let his sister choose before he pushed her into the seat and sat next to her giving her an innocent smile.

Dawson and Alex sat across from Jack and Lucia and Dawson flashed a mischievous grin and pulled out a deck of cards and Lucia nodded making Dawson cheer and open the deck and started shuffling the cards.
