this is so embarrassing but like - I'd really like to get into fanfic writing and stuff like that!! But I'm worried that I'll make the characters too ooc, and the last thing I want to do is just completely misinterpret them and take away their key personality traits. I guess I'm just wondering if you have any tips? Or what you do to get over the anxiety of posting? I really love your work!! 💗

i think you should go for it, one hundred percent 🫶

write your ideas, no matter what they are. as long as you tag properly and show effort—someone will love your work. posting seems daunting, and trust me, i totally understand the anxiety of putting yourself out there. but you're not alone; me and every single fanfic writer has felt that way, i'm sure.

but y'know what? who cares about judgment. writing is an art form, whether it's silly cod drabbles or Shakespearean plays. if you feel passionate enough to spend precious time writing, tuning, and brainstorming a piece—you deserve to have it be seen, no matter how "small" the audience is. and that's one of the few things i enjoy about tumblr; there's a post/blog for everyone!

focus on the writing that keeps it a fun hobby, always. be mindful of what your followers want/enjoy but remember that you're doing this for free!! basically what i'm saying is, you have to push yourself and hit post. it might be a slow burn, or you'll be a lucky one and have your first few posts blow up.

either way, you wrote something and were brave enough to share it with the internet (a very, very scary place. not to mention certain parts of this fandom).

as for tips on characterization, i heavily recommend you take inspiration from other media. watch your favorite show, read your favorite book — and think 'that fits ___ really well' or 'this character has a similar personality to __, i'll remember that for reference'. and don't be afraid to steal lines from the game/media and put it in your writing!! it's an underused easter egg that i love!!

i'm not sure if my advice makes sense. when it comes to what's ooc or not, i've always had a good mind for it—knowing what fits and doesn't, what is realistic or isn't. (and i'm by no means claiming that i'm a master at it. trust me, i'm not.) that might not be the case for you, and that's okay. strengths and weaknesses are what make art, art.

stick with your gut. don't be afraid to spend extra time re-working dialogue; you're on your own schedule, and it's better to like what you've written than rush it and not. remember that it's only fiction. and it's fiction that you are taking time out of your day to work on, might i add. at the end of the day, if you're tagging things properly and being respectful—who the fuck cares that you put price in a catsuit? or made gaz hate oranges? yeah, exactly.

i hope i didn't ramble too much for you, anon. and i apologize if this advice doesn't have a sliver of sense to it. I wish you the best of luck with writing & sharing your work. 💗💗💗

A symphony of shoe soles hitting the cement and the moon’s hypnotising gleam. A cigarette hung from Thomas’ lips, his face pressed to the car window. Y/N observed his beauty - the side of his freckled face kissed by the moonlight, his hazel eyes almost closed. God does have his favourites, she thought. 

Her hand squeezed his own - a gesture both of them had developed within the first months of their friendship. He squeezed back with a small smile on his face. Her gaze landed upon his lips. Y/N had felt them thousands of times before: against her own, caressing her inner thighs, or simply tracing them with her fingertips; yet she found herself wanting to kiss him again. The soft whimpers that fell from his mouth shook her out of her daydream and brought her back to reality, in the backseat of a taxi heading to her apartment.

“I love you.” Y/N knew he couldn’t hear her. She didn’t care. 

Her hand slid down to his cheek; a few specks of pink glitter sparkled, amongst the sea of brown dots. His eyelids still coated in the make-up from his earlier performance. Y/N’s palm slid down his neck, brushing a few golden strands off of his shoulders. 

Thomas nodded, following the girl into the building and to the elevator. Even in the dim light he looked stunning, a feathery shirt pressed to his skin; a black corset tightened around his waist. 

“Thommy, you have to wake up, we're here.” She whispered as the car came to a stop.

“Just a few more minutes.” The guitarist cuddled at her side.

“No, sunshine, not now. Let’s go upstairs and then you can have all the sleep you want, yeah?” Y/N held his face gently. 

The front door cracked open, as the girl twisted the key in the keyhole. 

“Did you like the show?” The boy smiled.

“Loved it. I took so many pictures, I will show you in the morning.” Y/N nodded along, before the mechanic doors slid open. “Let’s go.” She grabbed the boy’s hand, leading him to her apartment. 

Y/N smiled, taking the make-up wipe and stroking it over his skin - glitter and eyeshadow coming off. She leaned down pressing her lips to his cheek. 

“Go to the bedroom, babe. I’ll help you get ready for bed, yeah?” She kissed his cheek.

“Thanks, love.” As Thom’s voice trailed off, Y/N went to gather some items; all the travel had turned her apartment into a mess as well - suitcases, boxes and bags scattered across all surfaces.

“Hey, ba…” By the time the girl had returned, the man was asleep in bed, cuddling with her pillow. “Baby, wake up.” She kissed his forehead. “You can’t sleep with a corset on, you will hurt yourself.”

“I’m fine.” Thomas tried to pull the woman with him.

“I know, sun, but we need to get your make-up off.” The girl pinned his hair back.

“Okay.” The boy nodded. 

Y/N got off the bed and walked over to the closet. The wardrobe doors creaked, all sorts of clothes hung on plastic hangers - a wide selection of shirts, skirts, pants and dresses scattered all over the place; no divider between hers and his side - it wasn’t necessary, they traded outfits all the time anyway. A cropped t-shirt - wide and white, decorated with little tufts of lilacs caught her attention; her fingertips grasping the fabric. 

“I love you.” She removed the silver hair pin from his locks.

“I love you too.” The boy answered. 

As the boy got up, the woman’s hands began working on his corset, untying the silk ties on his back.

“Get up, sunflower, you need to put something on and take this off.” The girl gestured to his top.

“Okay.” Thomas nodded.

“Ow, ow, ow... OW!” The guitarist whimpered.

“Is everything fine? What’s wrong?” Y/N placed her palms on his shoulders.“Yeah, yeah, I think I must have hurt myself, or something.” The girl slipped his shirt off, revealing a bruise on his back.

“Oh my God, sun. Wait here, I will go grab some ice.” Y/N/N rushed to the kitchen grabbing a pack of ice cubes from the fridge. “There you go, my love.”

“Thank you, darling.” Thomas smiled at the girl.

“Do you need anything else? Can I grab you a pair of sweatpants?” Her voice cracked as she watched him pull on the t-shirt, sure it was hers.

“Babe, It’s okay, let’s just cuddle?”

“Yeah, let’s just cuddle.” The boy curled up next to Y/N/N, soft snores leaving his parted lips not long after.

“I love you.” The girl whispered.

i very distantly remember you asking for Idiosyncratic Ship-names for Trigun (not in those words, but thats what TV Tropes calls them. the ships where theyre labeled after words, instead of blending their names together (which the name-blending kind of ship-names TV Tropes says is called Portmanteau Ship-names)). im PRETTY SURE that Ask came from you but i cant find the Ask anymore, but, again, im?? pretty sure???? it was you?

anyway, if i recall correctly, you wanted an idea for Meryl × Vash × Wolfwood ship-name (that was idiosyncratic; as opposed to the Mashwood ship-name that is Portmanteau), and ive been wrestling with sharing mine for a while bc its a ship-name ive been using for my un-posted OC × those three, but it can be repurposed for your needs too. i should add that, for poly ships, i personally like to incorporate the number of people involved in the name. but the number 3 (as opposed to the original: 4) works in the ship-name i have. you can also ditch the number, if you want, im not your boss. or you can ditch this whole ship-name if you dont like it

but for Meryl × Vash × Wolfwood (× my OC) ive been using (DE4LOWERED) D3FLOWERED, or i guess just DEFLOWERED if you prefer no numbers

i guess you could keep the original number if you wanted to use Reader inside it tho

but yeah. that Ask has been on my brain for months now, re-popping up as i go "nah" and re-popping up again until i decided i could at least share what ive been using in private. again, you certainly dont have to use it. im not even wholly sure it was you since i cant find the Ask (but tumblr's search feature has always been garbage so im unsurprised i cannot find it)

if you were curious about some of my other idiosyncratic ship names for Trigun (to use or not use, im good either way) (tho, please note i dont use numbers for two-person ship names. so taking a triad (with my OC) into a duo (no OC) will not have a number like the above example of a quartet to trio does. you can feel free to incorporate Reader or your own OC to give the ship its triad-poly status again, i dont mind. regardless, im babbling)

first i want to say i am sorry for getting back to this so late! i have been very busy recently!!

it absolutely was me who was looking for idiosyncratic ship names!! i was from the age of fandom (or maybe the particular fandom??) that had quite a lot of them! specifically young justice in the mid 2010s? we had spitfire, museum heist, chalant, i think red cat? we had a ton! and i feel like i saw it in other fandoms for a bit too but it slowly died off!

i just loved how clever they were! i think i also remember at one point people also were rather poetic about ot3 names? i think i remember someone who used to tag their rey, finn, and poe ot3 content with “ot3: mosaics are just broken pieces” and that stuck with me too.

but i LOVE that you’ve shared your own poly ship names with your OC and so generously offered them up for what we know as mashwood right now!! i love the inclusion of the number too!! i feel like back in the day, id tag it like this “ot3: d3flowered” WHICH IS FUN!

i tried thinking of one for them along the same lines of the “museum heist” ot3 which was robin x wally x artemis from young justice…..which if you shortened their names would get robwallart…which then became museum heist! because of the play on the words their name formed, which looked and sounded like “robbing wall art”

so i was kinda trying to play with mashwood like that because their names together currently invoke like….a forest? marshy forest? couldn’t figure out something i liked but i did like the forest imagery, since their planet no longer has them and in ways, they represent a beacon of hope for the planet.

d3flowered is lovely though!!

also obsessed with your oc and other ship names too….thats SO fun. ringing bell-flower is really evocative. i love the thought you’ve put into this.

makes me want to come up with ship names for my reader ocs and these characters…..i feel like with wolfwood i at least have this reoccurring “hellcat” reader….

Hello to our awesome Spring Fever Participants! Here is the FAQ for the event, along with some updated info to avoid any confusion. There weren't many questions asked but if the blog gets more, this post will be updated with answers to those questions.

Fanfic: 1000 words

Fanart: Line art

Moodboard: 9 images

How Do I Post For SF Spring Fever?

This is a Tumblr based event but I do not require participants to post their work on Tumblr, especially since Fanart could be an issue. We only ask that participants please tag their content appropriately 🌷

If you post on Tumblr:

you just need to tag who your person is and either @Starkerfestivals or use #SFSpringFever22. Your post will be rebloged to StarkerFestivals and you're set 😊

If you post on Ao3:

please add it to the collections by using the collection name SFSpringFever22

The collection is currently closed until May 8th.

If you're posting elsewhere (etc, twitter for art):

the piece has to be viewable and I'll be posting a link to the work on the blog.

Do I have to keep who I got for the exchange a secret?

That isn't a requirement for this event so it's entirely up to you! Some people find being anon until the end as a nice surprise so if you do want to keep it a secret, feel free to ask @the-mad-starker to pass messages or questions to your prompter 😊

Unfortunately we were unable to find a pre existing term for this.

However, if you wished you could create your own term for it. One such name could be flagitive. Flag- as the person's introjected from a flag, and -itive to indicate introject. (Think fictive, factive).

If anyone else knows of pre-existing terms, or has coined their own, feel free to attach it to this post or tag us in it.

I see it's a tough missing druck day all around 💘💔💝 We can do this, tag, since we found ourselves in the same battered love boat and all 🚢🚣 In this drought and time of general uncertainty, I hope you not only feel the love, but maybe go forth and wallow, read fic, write fic, reblog, find gifs you like, comment on someone's fic, maybe one you've read before, but while there was still a rush of content you didn't express how it made you feel, learn how to crochet your own tiny dolls, cross-stitch your favorite druck quote on a pillow case or tote bag, buy pretty yarn and watch a tutorial on how to do that, rewatch your favorite episode, get pulled into a full season binge, go outside for a walk, be in your feels some more, cry over a song from the soundtrack, imagine new headcanons, come back to the tag to yell about your feelings, draw stick figures for your own dream druck storyboard, make shakshuka or a protest sign for the next rally, be like Abdi and write a song about your feelings, step away and do something completely different, scream, randomly think of a scene or character and smile, return to make silly memes, write an essay about your feelings and read it aloud to your pet, or your plants, or e-mail it to funk, post a poem you just wrote about carl's love for food or carlos' lost hours at the hardware store, watch Bob Ross and paint a picture, then turn it into a collage. This is necessarily an incomplete list, but brainstorming it I just got an urge to buy yarn, or maybe go into the woods and scream. Feel free to add more (or share any actual results of your coping, if you don't wish to bury it in your heart/a secret computer file/the woods under a pile of dead leaves/a dark closet in the attic) 💜❤💛💚💙💖💗
