There is definitely a certain amount of tragedy there, yeah. These people aren't asking Laios for help because it's easier. They're legitimately stuck in a nightmare scenario. Unless you're someone who can get pleasure from other avenues, living all that time without the basic needs will drive a person mad. Elves live just as long, presumably, but they're still able to eat, I assume.

I'm honestly more surprised they're all as sane as they are.

The latest Dungeon Meshi chapter is incredibly good for many reasons but one of them is getting to see Chilchuck's arc and him growing as a character, especially when it comes to his opinion on Laios as a leader and as a friend. I am so interested in breaking down their relationship development (this also doubles as chilaios propaganda btw lmao)

This got extremely long so I'll leave it under the cut <3

At the very start of the manga, and throughout most of the middle, Chilchuck clearly brushes Laios interests and personality off as being weird, just like pretty much every other character, but underneath that is a frustration that comes from him thinking that Laios could stand to be a way better leader than he is. Chilchuck is arguably way more qualified to be a leader in their group, but taking a leadership position is obviously not something he could easily do because of how prejudiced against his race is. In a world where most races see yours as disposable, it must be incredibly frustrating to be hired in a group with a leader who lacks social skills, is very forgetful, and seems to only care about monsters, when you both know you could do a way better job.

Chilchuck has more experience when it comes down to that type of thing, given he organized a union for other halflings, and though he takes out his anger at Laios's naivety when it comes to that area, it's clear he does it out of care and just because he wants to see Laios improve. In dungeon groups, he's always been a follower, he's perfectly comfortable just being there to do his job, and do it well, then leave. He isn't itching for the opportunity to take over Laios's role, but he does want to have the type of leader he can easily rely on.

But because of Laios's inexperience and also brash decision-making, Chil feels responsible for holding him back and being the glue to keep the team together, even though he may not admit it, (something we can clearly see when he chooses to sacrifice himself instead in the dragon fight despite the fact he often tells others he won't be useful in combat, as well as when he chooses to step in for Laios's place when talking with the Canaries).

This is something even Laios has taken notice of, given that he wants Chilchuck to be the one to bring him back to his senses with a lecture right before his confrontation with the winged lion. Out of all the others, he depends on Chilchuck on being able to bring him back with his words.

But anyways, Chilchuck's character arc comes from accepting Laios as a leader and growing fond of his unusual methods of leading rather than frustrated. In the shapeshifter chapter, when it came down to Laios having to differentiate Chil from his doppelganger, you can very much tell he is terrified of having to depend on Laios's judgement. I think it is also made worse by the fact that the shapeshifter is acting exactly like the worst preconceived notions about halflings other races have, and at this point the only thing present in his mind is the possibility that Laios will let him die and be replaced by a stereotype of all things.

And even after Laios explains how he was successfully able to tell his team apart, (which was because of how they interacted with monsters and the dungeon), the others are impressed, but Chilchuck isn't content with just that and hoped that Laios would have known because he finally got to know the others on a deep level that Leaders are just inherently capable of.

But of course, Laios isn't capable of something like that. He isn't a mind reader and he obviously can't distinguish other people's real thoughts or emotions, even if they are fairly obvious. Laios pulled a feat in a way that was accessible and made sense to him, and Chilchuck wasn't swayed because of how atypical it was of leaders to act. (Yes I also read this is a neurodivergent in a neurotypical world conflict).

This hesitance to fully trust in his abilities is also why he advised Laios not to accept becoming a king initially when Yaado asked Laios to. But after Laios defeats Thistle, by using his knowledge on dragons, similarly to how he defeated the shape-shifters, Chilchuck finally starts viewing Laios's unusual problem-solving in a positive light. It's when he first realizes that Laios's obsession with monsters isn't the thing that's holding him back, but a useful asset. His interest and knowledge is what saved them and got them all as far as they have. It makes sense for his development to go from believing Laios could never possibly be a king, to outright encouraging the idea. In his eyes, Laios has already been capable of doing the impossible, and thinks that he should stop underestimating what he's been able to do.

A final point is that Chilchuck has always been able to read Laios like a book, and is aware of what's on his mind a lot of the time, but this used to only cause exasperation and contributed to seeing Laios in a negative light most of the time. However, in the last chapter, he is pretty much the only person who is able to tell that something about Laios seems off. He actually pays attention to Laios as a person and shows concern for his well being. Because he cares about him. Like he's obviously cared about him for a while now but I think this is the first time he's genuinely shown this much concern for any of his friend's mental state. I wanna cry

Anyways conclusion being Chilchuck has not only finally accepted Laios as a leader, but as an incredibly capable individual who he genuinely respects. That’s it thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

I would love to have a King x reader (female reader if you are ok with that) where the reader is a mythical zoan type very similar to Kaido’s mythical zoan but because it was a fruit made by Dr Vegaounk, the reader ends up with a dark green dragon instead. King’s just infatuated with the reader and the reader knows it but won’t say anything. The reader is fairly new to the Beast Pirates and Kaido puts King in charge of making the reader feel welcome. Thanks in advance if you are able to do this!!

This led me down an interesting line of thought. How would King act around his crush. He's a deeply traumatized individual, but he hides it well. King has like zero emotional intelligence, he never learned how to really deal with them. Also, I'm making the reader around the same size as King for reasons.

This ended up being kinda long.

Kaido: Vegapunk *casts a glance at king, but can't see his emotions due to that damn mask* when did he make it for you?

Kaido: *nods his head empathetically* I know the feeling bud. From what information that I have gathered about them, they seem like a decent human. They were once instrumental in the escape of a slave rebellion in the Ballywood Kingdom and Vodka Kingdom. Both of which were predominately composed of non-humans.

King: really?

Jack: yeah, they came to us through a recommendation of one of contacts in the Ryugu Kingdom.

You: wha'cha talking about?

King: *puffs up and feels his embarrassment and panic well up in his chest* Nothing!

You: *squints at him in suspicion* Really? Because I don't believe you.

King: Are you calling me a liar?

You: I ain't callin' you a truther, big man. Now spill the beans, what were y'all whispering about?

King: *his heart flutters happily when you call him 'big man' * Kaido told us you helped in some slave rebellions.

You: Oh yeah, I have quite a few tales from that time of my life.

King: If we're going to work together we should know more about you. So if you wouldn't mind, could you tell us those stories?

Kaido: *subtly gives him an encouraging slap on the back and a wink*

Everyone was talking about how there was a dragon near the city and everyone was a little panicked.

You on the other hand weren’t as scared as everyone else was since you studied dragons. 

Your friend Royale Margarine Cookie was a Dragon Rider and actually had a Dragon partner and she honestly is really cute and your friend would allow you to study with her from time to time.

When you first met Pitaya it took you a couple of minutes to realize he was an actual dragon in disguise.

What gave it away was that his tail was loosely hidden behind his cape but you noticed it.

You asked him about it and after a while he finally admitted it and you were actually excited. 

You told him you studied dragons and asked him if the stuff you studied about dragons were actually true or not.

He was surprised by the stuff you told him, the stuff you told him weren’t that far from the truth in fact they might as well be true.

He adored how much you admire dragons and he felt appreciated that someone would devote their time in learning about his kind so much just out of interest.

You were able to learn more through him.

However he does have his own personal features you were pretty sure that just belong to him and not any other dragon.

Like for example he really enjoys food and berry juice…a lot… of berry juice.

He also has an opinion on the fact that Buttercream isn’t an actual dragon.

You told him otherwise though that Buttercream is actually a different type of dragon and that she is a wyvern which is just a dragon with two legs and two wings.

He gave you an “ooooohhhh” face, he trusts your words since you already know a lot about dragons. 

You guys ended up getting closer and you were really the only one who could handle his temper.

You knew how to calm him down and the method is pretty silly honestly.

I've been rewatching, again, and I feel like there are some things I didn't cover for some reason, but whatever

There are like many species across equestria and Lord Diavolo would love meeting all of them, just so see how they rule and such

In a certain episode, ember (leader of dragons) and thorax (new leader of changelings) talk about the issues they have with ruling, can you imagine how much Dia would've loved to give them both advice and just air out his issues too? I just love that thought

Mammon being all ballsy and fucking around with dragons only to be bullied by the equivalent of a dragon teenager is something I CANT get out of my head

In an episode, the main six ruin the "grand galloping gala", which is a really big thing, and they're like "well I hope princess Celestia isn't mad at us" and Princess Celestia comes and is like "That was the best thing ever!!!" And they're like, "That gala was horrible though" and she's like "Oh Twilight, the gala is horrible every year!! I invited you guys because I thought you could spice things up, and you did!" And if that doesn't give off Diavolo energy, I don't know what does

I've also seen people ponifying the characters, AND I LOVE THAT??

Here's my take on what type of pony everyone would be (just what screams out to me)

Lord Diavolo would be an alicorn a thousand percent, hair wavy-ness and all

Barbatos is a unicorn, specifically with a curved horn and the tail with the tuft of fur at the end (no idea what it's called)

Lucifer would be an alicorn too but he'd have a broken horn (kinda like Tempest from the movie), but he'd use a prosthetic to make it look normal and it basically is at this point, but if you want to save the alicorn thing, he'd be a unicorn that can make a set of wings for himself

Mammon is a pegasus (maybe a batpony, maybe a griffon but that's pushing it), definitely hides in the clouds when Lucifer is chasing him and likes to make it rain on his non Pegasus brothers

Levi is a unicorn that can transform into a merpony, he's his own Henry 2.0

Satan is a unicorn as well but often times his horn is charred at the end because he overuses his magic in anger, also has the tail tuft type of tail (or a kirin if we're crossing species)

Asmo is another unicorn, his horn is curved (something he is a bit insecure about), his hooves, snout, and horn all fade to like a light shade of pink (perhaaaps a changeling cause, idk, that's cool)

Beel is an earthpony, he's like BUFF, Big Macintosh typa buff, the day he learns to buck tress for fruit is the day there will be absolutely no more fruit, he also has a white underbelly that comes all the way to his snout

Belphie is an earthpony, and has the same white underbelly Beel has, is also the tail tufty typa guy

Solomon definitely is a unicorn, during big spells his hair does the Flowy thing too, his horn is curved and is white tipped, as well as his hooves

Simeon is a Pegasus, he's not the strongest flier though, he also does the wing hug thing with Luke

Luke is also a Pegasus and can't fly all too well, kinda like Scootalo but he can get himself off the ground for an extended period of time

Raphael is an unicorn, but he might as well be a Pegasus with how much he uses the magic wing spell

Mephisto is a unicorn with that curved horn, his hooves fade to black because he's cool like that

Thirteen is an earthpony , this, in no way, impedes her from making big complex traps

Satan would stab other people with his horn, full on head butting people for fun, it was all fun and games until he head butted Lucifer and Lucifer couldn't fly straight for a bit (he's sorry not sorry)

Diavolo also has more of an earthpony physique while Barbatos and Lucifer have the princess body type, not fully Celestia but Luna/Cadence

Beel has often been compared to a Parasprite because of their endless appetites

(Relating to the one above) Satan once accidentally shot a spell at Beel, and Beel coughed up a tiny version of himself, all the brothers proceeded to have a panic attack

I was bored at uni one day so decided to make hypothetical pokemon teams for the Touden party. Some are based on vibes, some are references to the characters themselves. Explanations below, at some places I go into spoiler territory so read at your own risk. I dont know how to spoilertag so im just gonna paste a lot of "/" so people have to click read more.

Laios: In general a very monster focused team. Initially i considered filling his entire team with dragons, but found that idea pretty boring. Hydreigon is a perfect fit for Laios. It fits both his love of dragons, multiheaded monsters, and it fits one of his titles at the end of the story: Laios of the Three heads. Escavalier is a reference to the living armor, which i think is the coolest monster in the entire series. Thats not enough to have it as a team member though, so the real reason i placed it on Laios' theme is that its Kensuke. Pyroar is The Winged Lion, as Laios is the only person in the story who truly understands it. Nidoking is a monster, but it also has king in its name. Lycanrock (day) is a reference to his childhood dogs. Finally Lickylicky references his endless apetite. I chose Lickylicky over snorlax, because Lickylicky is more niche in its appeal, and Laios is the type of person who likes things other would say "Thats stupid" to.

Marcille: I struggled a bit with this team, but in general i wanted to focus on her Elf identity, which mean some more feminine pokemon. However i also wanted to focus on her ancient magic and magical capabilities. I think Gardevoir is a perfect fit for her. Its a very caring pokemon, and its a very powerful psychic type. I added Cradily because i felt it fit her a lot. Its an ancient pokemon, and its a plant. You could see this as fitting with her staff and such, but all in all i just thought it really fit Marcille a lot. Next is Trevenant, which is a reference to her staff, Ambrosia. Its also a ghost type pokemon and has a darker design than just a tree, so i felt it was a nice tie in to her having darker/ancient magic than she lets on at first. Meowstic is a pokemon i put in simply for the vibes, I feel it fits her a lot. No other reason really. Gothitelle is here to reference her Dungeon Lord outfit, but i also think its a pokemon she would like. At last Spiritomb. This is a reference to her ancient magic, and i feel no other pokemon could represent an old unknown horror quite as well as Spiritomb.

Senshi: I wanted to really include Senshis key characteristics here, but really ended up with a lot of food pokemon. Mudsbray is a reference to Anne, both the horse and the Kelpie. Torterra is a pokemon i think senshi would like. I initially wanted to use Golem or another rock type to reference his farm golems, but i think Torterra just does the idea much better seeing as its basically an ecosystem in itself. Kangaskhan is a reference to his parental role in the party, but also his need to take care of the younger generation. Perrserker is a reference to his dwarf identity, i just think its neat. Appletun is an apple pie, and Farfetch'd seems like a nice pokemon to help you make food.

Chilchuck: With Chilchuck i wanted to both think of his status as the party rogue/trap disarmer and his position as a family man at heart. I wanted to reference his politics, but found it hard to represent with pokemon. First up we have Thievul, which is just a great fit for him. Its a thief fox that steps around silently, i think he would really like this thing. Klefki is his disarming tools. Maushold is him and his family. I think Pyukumuku is actually the best representation of him. Its small, and mostly utility focused, which is really his place in the party. However its also really cool so theres that, i guess. Lastly Galarian Stunfisk represents traps, and Gimmieghoul is his (least) favourite monster The Mimic.

Izutsumi: I wanted to emphazise that shes both a cat and a angsty teenager, but ended up with a very edgy team. I suppose it fits her though. Liepard is a scheming cat pokemon. It also fits because it has a rivalry with Thievul, which is in Chilchucks team. I think it was a nice fit as they basically have a grumpy dad/teenage daughter relationship at times. Sneasel is a mischievous little guy, which is basically a description of Izutsumi. Greninja is a ninja, and Luxio kinda looks like Izutsumi. Zoroark and Umbreon are both pretty edgy pokemon which i loved as a teenager, but i do think they fit her design. This is probably the weakest team on this list, but I still feel it fits her a lot.

Falin: I wanted to represent Falins place in the story, aswell as some of her likes. Dracozolt is a direct reference to her status as a hybrid bird/dragon/human monster. Its a perfect fit really. Hatterene represents her status as a "damsel in distress" that the party need to save. Although i think shes more than that, I felt it fit as Hatterene also has powerful magic. Oranguru i thought was a funny pick, i think it fits her healing mage aesthetic, and they basically have the same design really. Scolipede is a reference to her love of bugs and Reuniclus is both a psychic type and a body. I think it was a nice fit for her. Lastly we have Alolan Marowak, who in design is an exorcist, which is a nice little nod to her and Laios' conversation when they were children. Her potentially becoming a wandering exorcist.

And thats that. I made this just for fun so there are probably better choices for some of the characters. thanks.

Let's talk about these new images & the new/clearer looks at images from the Dragon Age Vinyl. (first, read this post hhhh). under a cut for length.

These resemble the map of the Fade in DA:O.

This one with the eluvian is labelled as the "Black City" side of the flip mat merch item. behind the eluvian is a flower-like pattern. and this is the first time I remember [? could be wrong] seeing the 'roots' of the 'tree statue' structures. from root, to trunk, to branches. [interestingly with root and branches looking like veins, lyrium veins, Titan veins..]. an eluvian shattering in the context of the "Black City" - again the splattering, the shattering..

and I looked up and saw the seven gates of the Black City shatter, and darkness cloaked both realms.

were/are the seven "gates" eluvians? ^^ they are portals and a gate is type of portal.

On the left here is Grey Warden imagery - griffon, sword, Joining Chalice with darkspawn blood drop.

I can't make out the two middle images - is anyone skilled with image manipulation able to unskew them?

On the right here, the four circles pattern looks similar to the pattern on Solas' Hermit Tarot card. and in the middle is the sense once again of an eclipse - in the very center, a sun-like shape/representation of the sun. and behind that, two overlapping spheres/two shadowed spheres.

Codex entry: Old Elven Writing

This elven writing found in the Arbor Wilds is so old as to be incomprehensible. There are whispers from the Well of Sorrows. It's impossible to understand the entire text, but certain parts suddenly reveal a shadow of their original meaning. "In this place we prepare to hunt the pillars of the earth. Their workers scurry, witless, soulless. This death will be a mercy. We will make the earth blossom with their passing." For one moment there is a vivid image of two overlapping spheres; unknown flowers bloom inside their centers. Then it fades.

And here is our first clear look at the Black City version of the art. we can now make out details in it that we couldn't the other day. the 'feel' of the image is that the sunrays emanating from the dragon/just behind the dragon cause/caused the now-Black City to destabilize and crumble. the wings and foliage also have a color gradient. at the bottom, gnarled and blackened, where the rot set in and is spreading. it spreads upwards to marr the little amount of gold that there is left, killing the foliage in the process.

but the main new exciting detail here is the heads held in the wings. there are 6 of them and they have elven ears. on their helms are the 'Evanuris headpiece/symbols'. seen from different angles in some, but it's these symbols nonetheless. you can match them up, like so:

After matching up the heads to these symbols, only the central one, the biggest one, is left out. and as you can see, what does match that is the Black City dragon's horns (recall they or the dragon itself changes from the Golden City version of the art to this one) and the staff of the figure facing the dragon in the Golden City version of the art.

here's an Elgar'nan asset from DA:O. compare the horns with the staff top, the Black City dragon horns and the symbol in the biggest semicircle.

I still speculate that the figure and therefore the second 'Black City' dragon is Elgar'nan (with the first dragon being Mythal). opposite Mythal, he's the leader of the gods, the Zeus. that semicircle and symbol is the biggest. There isn't another big one because Mythal was murdered, and of course there isn't a ninth because that's Fen'Harel. I wrote in my last post on this,

left, silvery dragon - Mythal? right dragon (which is gold-toned despite the blackening) - Elgar'nan, after he’s approached her [maybe as the figure on the rock promontory] and then murdered her and taken her place as the god, ruler, dragon who presides over all? moon and sun, moon dragon and sun dragon, beauty and destruction.. the shape of the 'right-hand’ dragon’s horns match the evanuris headpiece on the ring which is in the biggest hemisphere, and of the 7 gods those headpieces apply to (9 Evanuris, minus Mythal and Fen'Harel), the 'biggest’ naturally is the patriarch leader opposite Mythal, Elgar'nan.

husbands killing, betraying or doing acts of violence against their wives is unfortunately not a rare thing. and in the lore this has happened before. Andraste (with her Mythal-like crown..) was betrayed by Maferath. Conobar betrayed Flemeth, the human woman whom the spark of Mythal - betrayed herself by other Evanuris - crawled to. the spark of Mythal "clawed and crawled through the ages" to Flemeth when Flemeth cried out for help. there is a reason Flemeth is the vessel the spark of Mythal joined with, their stories are similar. Dalish lore and the memories of ancient elven lore we see in DA:I sometimes show that Mythal sometimes had to temper Elgar'nan's fury or defuse situations involving him. of course, just because Elgar'nan was the main culprit of Mythal's death didn't mean that he did it alone or acted alone. other Evanuris were involved. Solas says "and in their lust for power they killed her". in their lust for power, the City was blackened.

the question is, what do the Evanuris heads in the dragon's blackened wings represent? ofc it's another version (really different art style etc) of this event. the heads/symbols, the City blackening.. it's the same event being depicted. but the way their body-less heads hang there in the blackened wings, dark and connected to the corrupted tree.. it reminds me of the theories connecting the Evanuris to the Blight somehow. "What the Evanuris in their greed could unleash would end us all. Let this place be forgotten. Let no one wake its anger. The People must rise before their false gods destroy them all." The Balrog Theory. Andruil travelling into the darkness of the Void and returning, twisted and mad. stuff like that. that's what the heads in the wings remind me of. so other Evanuris ("they") were involved in Mythal's death, and they were up to something shady "in their lust for power" that was giving 'not great for the world' vibes.

also, stylistically the choice to show their heads like this also reminds me of the faces in the borders of the beautiful map that came out with the Tevinter Nights book. those borders not only also contain two different dragons facing off from each side of the map but a bunch of celestial body, sun/moon and eclipse imagery...

anyways, we also get a more detailed clearer look at the Golden City cover art and in this we can see -

this is the door/gate to the Golden City in this Art. and idk, it just reminds me of this dragon Mythal mosaic or this Mythal dragon statue.

also -

soo is Elgar'nan is one of the "Evil Gods" that has Thedas in their sights? that mural could be read as implying that there were two returning or at least lurking ominously. All 7 non-Mythal-non-Fen'Harel gods coming back or being at risk of coming back in one game could be too much both in terms of irl meta-resources for development (there are lots of other things going on in Thedas to cover as well) and too much as a threat, if I was a writer I personally might handwave most of them to the side like "oh yeah, 5 of them got corrupted/stuck/lost forever over the Ages since while they were trapped and only Elgar'nan and [Other One] remain to pose a threat. they're still looming and ominous though". yknow?

​​The romance between the main ship is not cringe! They’re dynamic is hot. He’s hot. She’s hot. It’s all hot

​​There is more than one badass female characters! It’s giving Throne of Glass series (Aelin, Manon, Lysandra, etc)

Could I mayhaps ask for your thoughts on each of the Box Legendary Pokemon?

*cracks knuckles* SURE! let's do this

Gold and Silver: I actually don't feel suuuuper too strongly about Ho-oh and Lugia, tbh--though i will say they both have more solid designs than. A Lot of other johto Pokemon imo LMAO. I liked Lugia a lot when I was a kid and that affection has waned a bit as I got older but I do still think it's cool. They both have pretty solid lore as far as Legendaries go, I'm just not particularly attached to 'em...something like a Legends Johto game really has the potential to do something cool with 'em (I feel like with Ho-oh especially) and I do kinda hope we eventually get to see that.

Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald: MY HOMEEEEE Hoenn box Legendary trio sooo near and dear to me...Ruby was my first game Groudon was my first Legendary but I think he's kind of just ok. I like Kyogre a lot more and I Love Rayquaza, definitely a long time favorite Legendary...they're really just a solid trio of Pokemon with some really cool designs and concepts at play, and I like the new lore and forms ORAS gave 'em. Kyogre's Pokemon Pinball boss fight kicks ass to this day and im not kidding.

Diamond, Pearl, Platinum: MY DEAR LATE MIDDLE SCHOOL/EARLY HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS I thinkkkk as a trio I think I might like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina the best...Legendaries I never tire of seeing. Palkia is one of my all time favs, gazing so lovingly at my giant Palkia plush ive had for some 15 odd years...Giratina is too, honestly, Giratina fucking Rules (though I actually don't like its Origin form very much and never had...I'm an Altered Form Giratina girlie.) They're just all super solid designs and for Dialga and Palkia especially they really feel like perfect embodiments of The Game Theyre the Cover Of. Also I love Origin Form Dialga and Palkia sorry. Black, White, BW2: WELL. THESE MIGHT TRULY BE THE BEST ONES. Zekrom/Reshiram/Kyurem are not my favorite Trio, but together just everything they represent is so cool. One day we WILL see that Original Dragon so HELP ME GOD. I'm more impartial to Zekrom (i played Black and White 2) but it still has such a striking design, I have to say. Reshiram is an especially beautiful Pokemon and definitely one of my favorites. I have. So Many Reshiram cards and plushes HJFDJGDF And well some people don't like Black and White Kyurem for whatever reason, but well i simply have to say they have been making me crazy since high school and the concept of Pokemon Fusion Really in The Game will never not be fucking bonkers slash POS. i LOVE White Kyurem (go figure.) X & Y: i don't. like X & Y very much 🥴 I wish I liked Xerneas more but something about its design is just kind of lacking some 'oomph' ro me. It doesn't feel like a strong poster child for the Fairy type's debut. Despite everything Yveltal does go hard as fucking hell though I still like it a lot. I named the one I caught in Y HELLRAISER back in college and I was shocked they let me name it that.

This is a summary + some additional thoughts about what a dragon in this setting actually is, so a lot of this exists in previous posts but I found myself typing this up for some brainstorming and might as well pop it somewhere

Dragons In The Napoleonic Wars- No Not The Ones You're Thinking Of These Are Different I Swear

A dragon in this verse is a large strong and powerful reptilian creature, usually with wings and feathered or fluffy manes/ruffs/spines, that are as intelligent as humans.

They can range in size usually from modern day truck to modern day two storey house, though bigger and smaller have been documented. They have very varied body plans - two wings, four wings, no wings, feathers, scales, sometimes fur, two legs, four legs, no legs, arms, feathery wings, bat wings, wings that are reminiscent of butterfly or dragonfly wings, wings that are both feathery bat wings, etc.

They communicate with people telepathically, like a voice in your mind. They can direct this to a specific person or generally, and the general voice can be "heard" in the same radius as a person normally speaking or shouting. They can also impart sensations, and some dragons are known for having certain sensations alongside their "voices".

They don't have physical gender but tend to identify strongly with a gender, and thanks to the influence of human society its usually the one that their parents thought of at birth. The name that a dragon is given at birth is usually just a bunch of telepathic sensations like "the feeling of sun on scales mixed with the hopes for a hard working life" plus a family name, they usually just introduce themselves with the family name to other people beyond childhood and then if needed to disambiguate, they get nicknames or human names.

A dragon is much faster than a horse but does not tend to have their stamina - if a horse can go 30 miles in a day at 4 miles per hour at a nice walk, with 15 mph at a gallop or something, I guess a small dragon can fly twice that but would start needing to fall into a stupor much earlier.

They can spit sparks or small bursts of fire, and if they eat coal or some interesting alchemical mix they can belch forth larger flames. Some brilliant artillery general from Corsica has been talking to scientists about this.

Their oceanic counterparts are sea serpents, who are much larger but can only breathe and exist in water. Sea serpents can guzzle up large amounts of water and shoot or spray them from their mouths. There's some sort of historic covenant between the Royal Navy and a bunch of aristocratic sea serpent families. There's a sea serpent called Aubrey who loves the Royal Navy and wishes he could have been born a human.

Dragons (including sea serpents) are powerful but they're prone to a thing called the "dragon stupor", which is where they fall into a healing comatose state if they exert themselves too much or they are injured. The dragon stupor can last for hours or days for smaller dragons, and weeks or months or even years for larger dragons depending on severity of injury.

Dragons don't live for too much longer than humans, but they are perceived to do so because during their stupor, they do not age - and the larger dragons can fall into very, very long stupors. There are folklore and fairy stories of mountains actually being sleeping dragons. A sufficiently depressed dragon who has lost their loved ones and loved objects can just go into a stupor and never wake up.

The dragon stupor is, however, lessened in severity and length by the presence of a dragon's treasures. This is a term referring to the dragon's loved ones - the people, objects and places close to their heart. In the presence of their treasures, a dragon can recover from their stupor quicker, and in their stupor they are roused to a conscious state, though they do not tend to want to move particularly much.

The bond between a dragon and their treasures is very strong. They have a sense for the livelihood of these treasures, and their telepathic range is much wider than normal - if they can talk to people telepathically but they need to see these people, they can sense and talk to their loved ones without needing to see them within a range of miles maybe, and in that range they definitely can sense the presence and location of their treasures.

They can cast out their awareness to possess/haunt these treasures - its a dim awareness when it comes to places and treasures, but if a loved person (human or dragon) allows the dragon in, the dragon can experience their sensations and experience, though the dragon cannot control the possessed one's actions - they are a voice in the possessed one's head, and the possessed person can relay what the dragon says, as well as kick the dragon out. This is basically how very large dragons who can't really fit in a city or experience city life or go to events like ballrooms or whatever can do so. Also the possessed person's eyes very visibly glow the dragon's eye's colour or some colour associated with the dragon, so it's very obvious when someone is possessed by a dragon.

There's degrees of fondness, this fondness can be platonic or romantic or even professional - many dragon generals count their aide-de-camps and valets among their treasures, and they may be able to ride along with their ADCs' perceptions. It might not be as full a possession or sensory experience as riding along with one they are extremely close to, or maybe if the relationship is deep enough it can be.

I'm not sure how much effect a dragon possessing an inanimate object or location can have. It'd be kinda fun if there was some kind of effect but I'm not sure what it is, exactly. Maybe they can nudge the weather for locations or impart vague psychic suggestions to lifeforms like "come here" or "stay away" that can be overcome with willpower. Any ideas?

Thoughts on dragons in culture, dragons in society, dragons in the military and dragons in the bible (the serpent was kicked out of the garden and forced to third wheel for adam and eve) will come later.

Idk actually, maybe the some of the spider kids are humans and that’s how they meet Miguel or peter and Jess (bc I’d love to see them as dragons theyre so cool)

I’m feel like he’d get in the dumbest arguments with him just for the giggles. I can see him also baby sitting a hatchling mayday, keeping her fully entertained while Peter goes off to finish missions too dangerous to bring her along. Their little interactions in atsv were adorable especially the little salute he gave her.

or the fight between miles and Miguel ☹️ even tho I love him (Miguel) and understand why he did that and his motives, I’ll always feel so bad for miles. I feel like it would even be worse because instead of having a 6’9 roughly judged 310 pounds of muscle man chasing after you and pinning you down, there’s a ten ton dragon hellbent on having your dad die for the sake of the canon, claws, wings, VENOM/FIREBREATHING. It’s pretty much game over at that point. Ofc miles is a resourceful amazing wonderful intelligent human so I think he’d be able to reason with him. Besides, even then I kinda doubt Miguel would want to kill a kid, even if they’re a human. Nurturing instincts don’t go away after ur daughter dies 😋! Actually Miguel might even nom miles in an effort to keep him from messing up the canon :( can you imagine being so so terrified of this huge creature and getting nommed and you don’t know you’re safe and you’re panicking and —

The hurt and comfort is strong here :o. And the guilt. So much guilt. Once they work out their issues (there are so so so many poor dudes) I’m sure they’ll be besties. But that’s for human miles au

dragon miles would definitely get the short end of the stick. Even if he’s a hatchling (kind of, he’s in that odd stage between adult and adolescent but on the younger side) he’s still a whole lot more durable than if he’s a human. Which means that Miguel won’t be nearly as cautious handling him physically. Ouch. Miguel genuinely wants to protect miles in the movie but does it in the worst way possible. That would probably transfer over to this universe too.

But still because I absolutely LIVE for found family, I want to imagine they work through their problems in a long and very very non linear path that has setbacks and leaps forward and minor changes and everything because I love all of these characters sm and without depth they don’t feel like people. Plus imagining sleepy spider kids/dragons stumbling into Miguel’s section of the cave system/lair and deciding to take a quick nap there because it feels safe and waking up with Miguel curled loosely around them, wing slightly shielding them from the chilly drafts and hsjskskdjskj they have my heart. (Miguel will deny it later.)

or peter b taking the human kids out flying to let them feel at least a little what it’s like to taste the sky while Miguel lurks in the background anxiously, crimson eyes tense just in case peter accidentally drops one of them. Not that he would, he may be goofy but he’s most definitely not stupid.

I can imagine Miguel trying his hardest to stop some of the kids from doing things that he thinks is wayyy too dangerous for them and just giving up and tucking them away in his brooding pouch. If they won’t listen to his very very valid concerns then he’ll just have to make sure they don’t go anywhere >:(. Plus it’s warm and safe and even though Miguel will never admit it, he feels calmer if they’re there, protected completely bc he’ll never let anything hurt them. At least not while they’re nestled in one of the literal safest places in the world. I can’t imagine anyone would have an easy time getting to them when there’s a very protective and vengeful dragon guarding his precious brood.

and I haven’t even really gotten into the other characters either :( especially exploring the relationship between Jess and Gwen or Hobie and miles/gwen and pav but I feel like I’m writing too much so I’ll end it here. 1 - Any player can build a wooden boat. It's color depends on the type of wood used. A boat can be occupied by two entities, they can be used to transport mobs, players, or a chest.

2 - It's Kirby transformed into a submarine. He shoots torpedoes. He's Kirby! He's adorable!

3 - The Lemurian ship was created a long time ago by the Lemurians (Lemuria is pretty much the in universe version of Atlantis or smth). It does not have sails unlike the other boats in universe. It can only be controlled by Adepts (people with psychic powers), by using a Black Orb to amplify their psychokinesis. There are three Lemurian ships in game, but the one used by the player belongs to Piers. After a while, magical... er, enchanted psychic wings are attached to it, which allows it to hover briefly. Later you also get a cannon!

4 - it’s a pirate ship! the captain is a strong buff lady who once killed a sea dragon with only a claymore and is DEFINITELY a lesbian. she used it to fight a giant sea god literally hundreds of times her size. she used it to smuggle a criminal wanted by the literal GOD of a country to safety. the rest of the crew are also mildly insane and every day I wish they weren’t npcs so we could learn more abt them. AND they commit tax evasion <3

5 - owned by captain caviar cookie, crew of mostly children, not sentient, usually doesn't take passengers

6 - A switcher from the Star Fleet. He's just nifty tbh. Bro has seen some shit. i love him. his voice is kinda gender ngl.

7 - Sentient taling ship owned by Pirate Percy. "YOU HAVE...TO GO...INSIDE"

8 - Physical manifestation of the Argo Navis constellation and summoned by the constellation witch to traverse the ocean. It's fucking beautiful and also has ancient mythological roots

9 - It's shaped like a whale that's so awesome! Like don't you just want to get in it??? If I had a ship I'd make damn sure it was shaped like some kind of creature.

Okay, I’ve been thinking more of the Dragon Valley AU and since people liked the tags on my small little posts so far I typed out the beginning for you!

To recap for anyone who missed the first post, this is a Stardew Valley inspired au with a dragon twist! Punz inherits farmland and everything on it from an unknown relative, including a dragon egg which was delivered to him due to its high value, only for it to hatch before he can figure out what to do with it.

The au will include Funz and Drunz, and eventually lead into Funzwastaken, but the beginning is heavily focused on platonic Punznap with Punz figuring out how to care for this little baby dragon!Sapnap that suddenly ended up in his care. 

Since this is a modern fantasy, dragons aren’t rare but when people keep them as pets they’re usually pygmy or pseudo dragons that don’t grow much bigger than a cat. Sapnap is already the size of a cat when he hatches so Punz knows for sure he’s not either of those, but the vet he takes him to can’t determine a breed so they have no clue how big he will get. 

Punz does contemplate just dropping him off at a shelter at first. He has a small single-room apartment, works long hours at a boring desk job, and hardly has the energy to even game or chat with friends when he gets home. A pet is definitely not something he needs, yet he can’t help to grow attached.

Sapnap is a silly little thing, not used to his limbs and body, constantly stumbling around and trying to keep his balance by flapping his tiny little wings. He’s constantly tumbling and flopping over but it never seems to bother him, always getting right back up to keep exploring or playing with the toys Punz gives him. He’s also clearly attached to Punz, squawking in alarm when he loses sight of the human and constantly curls up in his lap, or on his feet should he be busy, stubbornly wrapping himself around Punz’s leg if he’s moving around too much. 

As luck would have it he’s the perfect size to fit in a backpack and Punz's place of work allows pets as long as they’re quiet and well-behaved. So yeah, Punz keeps him, and a year in Sapnap starts talking to him, telepathically. Up until then Punz has felt the dragon's presence in his mind from time to time, but only emotions and often when Sapnap has tried to communicate a want or need. It was surprising at first, but Punz has heard about that being an ability some dragons have so it doesn't freak him out too much and he gets used to it pretty fast. 

Words are a little bit more startling though, but Sapnap isn’t too chatty at first, his favourite words simply being “NO” and “MINE”, usually used together when Punz is forced to pry the hatchling’s mouth open to remove inedible or dangerous items.

Year two gets a bit more challenging. Sapnap is now the size of a medium-sized dog, he’s a lot more chatty and very opinionated, often accidentally distracting Punz and getting him in trouble for not listening or paying attention. He also gets braver and more curious, sneaking away from Punz’s work desk to explore the office and more often than getting into trouble.

One such time was when Sapnap clung to Punz’s insistent thought of wanting to get up and get the energy drink he left in the office fridge, but having no time to do so. Sapnap decided he would be perfectly capable of helping his dear human himself, so he crawled out from under Punz’s desk to venture into the kitchen. This of course turned into a disaster as Sapnap attempted to scale the fridge shelves, resulting in them crashing down to the floor and spilling various food content and liquids, including Punz’s energy drink, all over the place. Sapnap would find himself attached to a harness tied to Punz’s desk the following weeks, Punz just barely managing to keep his job after that incident.

Year three is when things start to get difficult. Sapnap is now the size of a very large dog, he’s a lot more active and harder to control, and his fire pouch has started to develop. His size makes it difficult for Punz to travel with him and his new ability to chuck up burning bile or accidentally sneeze little breaths of fire makes him a hazard most people don’t want around.

Punz again takes him to a vet who suggests surgically removing Sapnap’s fire pouch, which Punz quickly refuses due to Sapnap’s alarm at the suggestion. A loud mantra of “My fire, my fire, my fire, MINE, can’t take, DON’T TAKE!!” bounces around Punz's head until he manages to calm the dragon down and assure him he won’t let the vet take his fire. Instead, at the vet’s second suggestion, Punz gets Sapnap a fire collar which simply goes around the dragon’s neck to add enough pressure to stop fire bile from coming up.

Despite this Sapnap is quickly banned from entering the metro, no longer small enough to fit in any kind of bag and being declared a safety hazard, forcing Punz to leave the dragon alone for long hours at home. He isn’t all that surprised when he returns to a trashed apartment a few days after the new arrangement, but it still causes him a whole lot of stress and frustration. His funds were already running low after vet visits and the increasing amount of food Sapnap eats on the daily, so he doesn't have much money to spare to replace broken items or any damage the dragon might cause to the apartment. On top of that Sapnap insists on spending time with him when he gets home, showing little regard for the human’s growing exhaustion as the dragon keeps him awake at night to play.

Then one day Punz gets a call from his neighbours that they heard the fire alarm go off and they smelled smoke from his apartment. They had already called the fire department but wanted to let him know what was happening. Punz instantly leaves his job, ignoring his manager yelling after him that he will be fired if he leaves, all his concern being on Sapnap and praying the little dragon hadn’t trapped himself in a fire.

As it turned out it wasn’t quite that serious. Sapnap had managed to wiggle his fire collar around and the shifting pressure had caused him to throw up some fire, but only enough to leave a scorch mark on the floor. It had been enough to trigger the fire alarm but the dragon was fine and overjoyed at seeing Punz coming home earlier than usual, Punz’s landlord however, was not too happy.

The moment Punz gets back home they give him an ultimatum, either get rid of the dragon or get evicted.

Punz isn’t sure what to do. He’s just been fired and now he’s stuck with the choice of getting rid of Sapnap or becoming homeless. He’s very upset with the dragon at the moment but doesn't want to act on rash emotions, so instead he just ignores Sapnap for the rest of the day as he cleans the apartments and tries to figure out his options. 

Meanwhile, Sapnap grows increasingly restless and worried the longer he’s ignored, he heard and understood the landlord’s words too, at least some of them, and “get rid of the dragon” won’t leave his mind as he tries to figure out what he’s done wrong. He’s still just a baby, all he wants is love and affection which is something he’s been getting less and less of the past few days, and now Punz is ignoring him. No matter how much Sapnap keeps waking in front of him, butting his head against his legs, or trying to nuzzle his snout into his hand, Punz isn’t giving him any attention and Sapnap starts to feel more and more panicked.

At the same time, Punz is getting more frustrated that Sapnap won’t leave him alone, still trying to keep a cool head and not snap at the dragon. This eventually leads to Sapnap trying to snap at Punz’s phone, which the human is focused on trying to look up work and new apartments, just as Punz goes to shove his snout away, resulting in Sapnap biting down on his hand.

They’re both stunned by this and Sapnap instantly lets go, surprised, and they just stare at Punz’s injured hand, tiny pinpricks of blood slowly welling up. It isn’t until the pain registers and Punz lets out a gasping hiss that Sapnap understands what he’s done. Guilty, fear, and panic finally consume him as he cries out in distress and dash to hide under Punz's bed, screaming into Punz’s head “I’m sorry I’m sorry didn’t mean to I’m sorry don’t get rid of me don’t leave me I’m sorry!”

The distress is so sharp that Punz almost feels it as his own and he struggles to get up to patch up his hand. He takes a moment to calm down, Sapnap still crying and whimpering under his bed, before he crouches down to coach the dragon out. He’s tired, but he reassures Sapnap he’s not mad and apologises for ignoring him, doing his best to explain his point of view to the dragon who keeps sniffling and apologising for biting him.

They end up sleeping in a pile on the bed once they’ve both claimed down, Sapnap completely tuckered out due to emotional exhaustion. Meanwhile, Punz struggles to fall asleep, still trying to figure out where to go from here. 

He knows he can’t get rid of Sapnap, pretty sure he couldn’t even if he wanted to, which he doesn't. The thought of no longer feeling the dragon’s presence in his head should be a relief, but instead it's haunting. It already feels weird being apart when Punz had to go to work, the distance between them dulling their connection. It had made him anxious in a way he can’t fully explain, and having Sapnap with him now, warm scales coiled around him, makes him feel calm and at ease despite their situation.

He can’t get rid of Sapnap.

And that’s when he remembers the farmland. It’s a ludicrous idea really, Punz has no idea how to live on a farm, he has no expertise that could help him get a job or work in the countryside. But it would be a perfect place for them to live, no one could tell them what they could or couldn’t do. Sapnap could spend how much time he wanted outside, explore to his heart's content, and maybe even stretch his wings for the first.

Punz has no clue how he will make it work, if he can make it work, but he makes the decision then and there to keep Sapnap and figure the rest out along the way.

I am actually having more monster hunter x rain code brainrot now, what monsters do you think the NDA people prefer to hunt like do they have a favourite monster? Or alternatively, if you were to assign the detectives monsters from MH, which would they be? I think you might have mentioned something about Vivia being a bit like Malzeno but what about the others?

That makes two of us with the Monster Hunter Rain Code brainrot combo! For whatever monsters they prefer to hunt and associate them with, I picked from the Rise Sunbreak pool since that's the game I'm placing them in for the crossover AU. Though it's very possible I could cheat and pick a monster that's in World if I feel like it heh. Enough dilly-dallying, time for the list!

Yuma - I feel like he'd favor hunting Rathalos, a good challenge while also not too overly demanding like an elder dragon. It's a good show of strength without putting himself in too much danger. The posterboys are fighting! As for what monster I associate him with, I'd say Chameleos suits him pretty well. Halara - They enjoy hunting down Goss Harag since they treat it like a sparring session. Two powerful blade wielders battling to the death, just the average hunt for Halara. This is where I start to cheat by saying that Halara's associated monster is Glavenus. Another sword-like monster, Glavenus is known for being one of the strongest brute wyverns while also being the most intelligent, fitting for Halara's excellence in brains and brawn.

Desuhiko - Taking the surname Thunderbolt to the extreme, he absolutely loves to hunt Zinogre. I associate Desuhiko with electric guitar motifs, so for Zinogre to also have electric guitar in its theme makes it all the better. I associate him most with Tobi-Kadachi though, the electric flying snake-squirrel simply fits him to a T. He managed to get the highest honor one can receive since Tobi is my favorite monster.

Fubuki - Her favorite monster is Velkhana! She likes to think of the icy elder dragon as royalty, so she treats the monster with utmost respect in battle, even if it means she often finds herself incased in ice for her chivalry. I feel like she reminds me of Mizutsune the most, since this monster appears harmless at first, but its bubbles are surprisingly deadly in unconventional ways by tripping up hunters.

Vivia - He's definitely the type of person who prefers not to hunt unless absolutely necessary, but when he does, he gravitates toward hunting Gore Magala. That is, until he tries to snuggle under one while using its fluffy wings as a blanket. And of course I associate the anemic vampire with the vampiric dragon Malzeno! Once a peaceful monster living in harmony with humans, its tranquility was destroyed while fighting for dominance against a powerful, demonic elder dragon. This battle forced Malzeno to form a symbiotic bond with parasitic leeches that infected it, something that Vivia would most likely sympathize with (and is definitely a plot point in the crossover AU).

Yakou - The chief achieves the greatest thrill when hunting Crimson Glow Valstrax. It's basically like fighting fire with fire with these two rocketeers. Maybe this monster even reminds Yakou of Yomi due to its title as the 'star of despair,' much like what the leader of Amaterasu has become over the years. It's certainly one way to take out his pent-up guilt and rage. I'm gonna cheat again by associating Yakou with Namielle. The sea dragon propaganda prevails!
