You look down at your phone, thumb hovering over the send button before you choose to back out your entire reply and leave Andy on read. You’re still mad at him, and it’s not like he’s been the most attentive partner as of late. In your opinion Andy should be kissing the ground you walk on, especially after pushing out his twin demon spawn. You gave him not one, but two heirs, and he couldn’t even be bothered to be in your shared bed a good amount of the nights that he was actually home. Your blood boils at the thought of it, and you don’t bother considering that there might be a reason why Andy has been so busy lately. You shouldn’t have to consider it, if there’s something going on then he should just tell you.

Sipping on the cranberry juice and sprite that you’ve been nursing you sigh, it’d be so nice to pour a bit of vodka into your glass right now, but you’re still nursing so that’s not an option. Sliding your phone into your purse and rejoining your friends. It’s a bachelorette party and you don’t need to bring the mood down by worrying about Andy when you should be celebrating your friend getting married soon. It’s hard not to think about him though, especially when the whole argument earlier had been because of him not wanting you to leave the house in the short dress you were wearing. He wanted you under him, on top of him, wrapped around him, and he certainly didn’t want you around a bunch of half naked gyrating men. He knows that you won’t let yourself be tempted that easily, it’s more that you’re craving some time with your friends now that you’re finally starting to feel better and the postpartum isn’t wreaking as much havoc on your mental and emotional state any more. He feels guilty about not being there for you like he wanted to, but he swears the next time he won’t have to leave you alone with just Agatha as support again.

It’s something he might have told you if you hadn’t stormed out of the house and jumped into your car so you could speed off. He assumed you just needed to cool off, and he knows you won’t be trying to run. Not when you have two beautiful babies that you adore and that need you. That didn’t mean he particularly enjoyed arguing with you or you walking out on him.

That’s how he ends up watching you from outside your friends house, you’re laughing and sipping at your drink. It’s just you girls and he thinks that’s perfectly fine right up until the point that a dark truck pulls up and four men pile out in police officer uniforms. Each one of them is ridiculously built, and Andy already knows what’s about to happen. He clenches his jaw so hard that he can hear the creaking of his teeth under the pressure as he watches one of your friends open the door and usher them in with a squeal of drunken laughter. It sets his nerves on edge, and through the window he can see the men beginning their routine as they work their way around the room. You throw cash, his cash he notes bitterly, and laugh with your friends and despite knowing that he should be glad that you’re having a good time, Andy just seethes as he continues to watch you.

It feels like an eternity before the song finally ends, and the men start to break off with smaller groups of women. And then there’s you, wandering away to the kitchen by yourself to check your phone again. He wonders if you’ll actually text him back now that you’ve had your fun, but you just set the phone down on the kitchen island and pour more sprite into your juice.

“Now what is a hot mama like you doing off by herself.” A voice says from the kitchen entrance, and you nearly choke when you look over to see one of the dancers sauntering over shamelessly in this thong. You have half a mind to dismiss him, thinking he’s going to try and hit on you in hopes that you’ll slide him a bit more cash but instead he helps himself to a drink and leans on the island next to you. “I’m Adonis,” He gives you what is obviously his stripper name, and you do your best not to snort in laughter. “The bride to be told me you just had twins, and that you deserved a little extra attention.” He informs you, and you groan and bury your face in your hands. The male dancer catches sight of the large ring on your finger, glinting in the low light. It feels heavy right now, a reminder that you’ve tied yourself to Andy and right now you don’t even think he wants you. “Relax mama, I’m not gonna try to break up a happy home. But you gotta answer a question for me.” He continues, and you look up at him with curiosity.

“Did you seriously just have twins? Because damn girl.” He gives a low whistle, taking your hand and making you do a spin for him. “Like I might bat for the other team, but I got eyes mama and you look damn good!” He’s got you cheesing harder than you have in a while, and you don’t even think twice about it when you reach for your phone and open your photos so you can show him the many pictures that you’ve taken over the past three months. He presses in close to look at the screen, gasping at the pictures of your two bundles of demonic joy. A boy and girl, and then there’s the picture of Andy holding them that you pause on for longer than you’d like. He looks so happy holding them, so proud and content, it makes you think for a moment that he really only intended to use you as a human incubator. You don’t realize that tears are on your face until one drops onto your screen. You curse, wiping it away quickly and trying to pretend that you’re fine, but Adonis has already seen it and he’s quick to try and soothe you. “Hey it’s okay, I know I’m pretty but there’s no need for the tears.” He teases, and you give a watery chuckle. He’s sweet, and you’re quickly finding yourself grateful that your friend sent him in here to keep you company.

Unfortunately the moment Adonis innocently runs a hand down your arm that’s when Andy sees red. He assumes the worst, and one second he’s outside peering in, and in the next he’s got your friendly stripper by his throat.

You react in an instant, first trying to pry Andy’s hand off the sputtering man who has no idea what’s going on. “Andrew Stephen Barber!” You hiss, beating against his arm with your clutch until he’s focusing on you. “Let him go, you fucking bully!” You demand, and Andy’s glare doesn’t even make you tremble. You’re too angry with him to be afraid, you’re also hurt, assuming the worst things, and the one man that’s gone out of his way to make you smile is being threatened by your possessive demonic lover, so you can add embarrassment to your list as well.

“I saw him touch you.” Andy seethes, and you scoff in disbelief.

“First of all, I’m not his type. You might be though.” You snap, and Andy’s brows furrow before he puts that together and he chooses to release the gasping man. You hardly pay Andy any mind as you tend to Adonis, apologizing profusely, and getting him some ice for his neck. Ten minutes later, and another apology this time to your friends for having to leave early you all but stomp outside and slide into the passenger side seat of your car so that Andy can drive you back home with nothing from you but your stony silence. There’s a lot you want to say, but you won’t start a fight while he’s driving. “Are you going to talk to me?” Andy huffs out, gripping the steering wheel too tightly. “I said I was sorry, it was a misunderstanding.”

“Yeah, you misunderstood a man being friendly to your baby machine.” You mutter under your breath, but when Andy demands for you to repeat yourself you say nothing and simply glare out the car window while you fiddle with the heavy ring around your finger. The rest of the car ride is stifling, and you feel like you’re going to suffocate if you have to stay in the vehicle a second longer. The feeling gets worse when you see the house come into view, and without thinking twice about it you pull your phone out to dial Agatha. “Hey Agatha, do you think you could keep the twins overnight? I’ll pay you double if you can, but feel free to say no if you have plans.”

Of course she says yes, Agatha Harkness is more than happy to do anything and everything in her power to serve her dark lord and by extension you as well. You don’t dislike her, in fact she’s one of your favorite people, but right now when you’re in an emotional tailspin her happiness to do for you just because Andy’s laid his claim annoys you. You hate this, you hate feeling so out of control of your emotions, and so on edge that you just want to scream. You hate the irrational feeling that maybe you’re being too sensitive about things, but all the absence and the toll that motherhood has taken has left you feeling insecure.

Andy for his part just watches you angrily stomp through the house in silence, eyes narrowing as he follows at a distance until you reach the bedroom and kick off your heels. “What’s going on with you?” He finally questions, and something about his question just sets you off and it’s like an emotional bomb explodes in your chest. You whirl on him, dark eyes swimming with anger, and hurt as you clenched your fists at your side.

“Where would you like me to start, Andrew?” You snap at him, and you can see the muscle in his jaw jump when it clenches. You only ever call him Andrew when you’re angry with him, and he’s always torn between loving it and hating it because the amount of venom you can spit his name with is both arousing and infuriating. He doesn’t get long to dwell on it before you’re snapping at him again. “You’re never home, you’re barely in our bed with me when you are, and then you show up tonight wanting to act like I should just drop everything and cancel all my plans because now you have time for me.” You scoff, shaking your head as you begin to pace in an effort to expel some of the pent up energy you’re suddenly feeling. “That’s rich considering the fact that when I needed you these past few months you weren’t here!”

You don’t mean to yell, but tonight hasn’t gone as planned and having a happy moment ruined by Andy earlier has you feeling raw. “I gave you everything, Andrew,” you hiss at him, and he inhales a slow breath. In any other situation he would have put an end to this outburst of yours, but he’ll let you get this off your chest before he steps in and reminds you who the fuck he is. “Not that you gave me much of a choice,” you remind him, shooting a glare in his direction. You can tell he’s barely holding himself back from jumping on you and pinning you to the bed, but you’ve built up too much steam to just stop now. “But that didn’t matter because stupid little me fell in love with a demon.” You’re muttering that last part mostly to yourself, and the hurt creeps through the anger just enough for Andy to hear it. “You wanted me, I let you have me. You wanted an heir, I gave you two. TWO! Andrew, I gave you two children and then you just left me here with Agatha and two babies that I wasn’t even ready to have!”

He bristles at that, blue eyes bleeding black for a moment. “You got what you wanted, you always get what you want. And all I’ve wanted this entire time was you, and you couldn’t even give me that, and the second someone makes me forget that my husband has been a neglectful ass you show up and take that away too. It’s like you don’t actually want me to be happy.” You accuse, eyes dropping to the diamond ring sitting heavily on your finger. “Fuck! If you don’t want me anymore now that you’ve got what you wanted then just say that!” You fuss with the ring on your fingers, trying to pull it off only to find it fitting tighter than it had when Andy had first slipped it onto your hand. You know it’s the remaining baby weight you still haven’t shed, and you curse loudly as you rush to your vanity to try and get some lotion onto your hand in hopes that it’ll help the ring slide off.

Andy moves in a blur when he realizes what you’re doing, you feel him grip your wrist in his large hand to stop you and you use your free hand to push against his chest. “Stop it! It’s bad enough that you snatched me out of my life, knocked me up, ruined my body, and now you can’t even let me enjoy a night out. I don’t need to wear this if it doesn’t mean anything!” You hear a growl in response to your words, and in a dizzying move Andy roughly sits you on the vanity and leans in until he’s locked his gaze with yours.

“Are you done?” He questions, but it isn’t a question at all. There’s an edge to his voice, it’s low and dangerous and you haven’t heard that from him in so long that it makes you gasp out loud with a small shudder. “I admit that I’ve been neglectful, but I’ve been ensuring the safety of my queen and our children.” He tells you, and your mouth snaps shut. “Perhaps you’ve forgotten the time my enemies tried to take you, little angel, but I haven’t.” You haven’t forgotten necessarily, but you were under the impression that after the lengths Andy had gone to in order to get you back that it wasn’t an issue anymore.

Apparently you were wrong, and now you feel a little guilty for assuming the worst. Not guilty enough to stop being entirely angry with him though.

“Nothing to say all of a sudden?” He questions, and the emotional rollercoaster that you’re on has tears brimming in your eyes. “No? Alright, well let’s get a few things clear right now.” He starts, his hands moving to the short skirt of your dress to bunch it up over your hips slowly. “I took you because you’re mine.” He gives the fabric of the dress a pull between his hands until you hear the fabric ripping. “I got you pregnant because you’re mine, and I know what’s best for you.” The dress is in scraps now and it falls away from your body uselessly. Andy leans away just enough to look at you, and you feel the need to cover the softness of your belly with your arms. Andy pulls them away, and hums in satisfaction as he looks at you with pure admiration for the curves and plushness of your body. “There’s nothing wrong with your body, you’re perfect and you’re mine.” He steals your breath with a sudden kiss, and before you know what you’re doing you’re clinging to him. All the anger dissipating and giving way to need and desire as you return his kiss with months of pent up need.

Andy breaks away for a moment, lifting your ring hand into view to place a soft kiss to your knuckles. “If you ever try to take this ring off again because of assumptions, I will tattoo my name on you so you don’t forget what forever mine means.” You inhale sharply at that, swallowing thickly as you meet his stormy gaze. You don’t say anything for a long moment, but you don’t back down entirely. Sure he has a good reason for being absent, but he’s only telling you this after the fact and in your current emotional state it’s still not entirely good enough for you to just happily accept.

“Am I yours?” Your question shocks him, actually shocks him for a second because after all he’s just said you still have it in you to challenge him. He thinks for a moment that he’s created a monster, because there was a time when you would have never thought to question him like this. You lean forward, eyes searching his face for a moment before you place a hand against his cheek. Damn, you’ve missed him. “You say one thing, but your actions say another.” That has him growling in your face, and you just smirk at him as you stare into that black as night gaze. You know what’s coming next, and the anticipation has you dripping for him when he snaps his belt off like it’s nothing. He works himself out of his pants, and you don’t break the heated locked in gaze the two of you share.

Previously on BnHA: The Hawksquad+Lurkers were all “well this sucks” and sat around a bit talking about how maybe they should actually come up with a new plan that is actually good, but then in the end they were like “nah.” Deku was all, “THERE’S SOMETHING INSIDE ME THAT PULLS BENEATH THE SURFACE!! All Might was all “Deku you should take care of yourself, try eating a thing,” and Deku was all “BYE, ALL MIGHT,” and just LEFT. He left!!! What the fuck!!!

and then all of a sudden through that haze, he hears the one voice that’s more familiar than any other that he knows. like, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he thought he was just imagining it at first. Kacchan showing up to save him right when he’s at his most desperate and feeling the most alone. Kacchan, showing up to save him.

this is the person he always looked up to as a child (to be fair he was quite a strange child lmao). the person who was even closer to him than All Might. the person he always thought was amazing. and bam, here he is now. appearing in the sky out of nowhere to one-shot the bad guy with a single blast (which, btw, that was his armor-piercing attack too lmao dslkjlk take it easy there kiddo). like, that must have felt absolutely surreal to him, especially coming at a time when he’s already half-delirious and barely hanging on to reality. he must have really thought that he was losing it there for a second.

but he’s really there. it really is him. and for this brief moment -- before the rest of the situation catches up to him, and he remembers about all of the fucked-up AFO stuff, and remembers why he was so afraid and why he was pushing everyone away -- for just this one brief moment, he’s too exhausted and stunned to do anything except to just react. just stands there, looking up at him in awe.

and you know, it almost reminds me of...

just. you guys. the character development. the freaking character development. someone who brings reassurance. someone who shows up and makes you think, “oh, it’s all going to be okay now, because [person] is here.” the role reversals. the growth. the payoff!! because who is the one person who always had faith that Kacchan would one day grow up to become an amazing hero like that. WHO IS IT. YOU ALREADY KNOW.

why the hell was a demon sucking up to him ? he would scoff every time he thinks about it and how you would act so ... kind. it threw him off.

how you would offer to bandage his wounds every time he got hurt, how you would offer to make him his favorite foods, how you always suggested playing video games with him to distract him when he remembered his past, how you'd supervise him when he went demon hunting, and how you even tried to participate in his hobbies alongside him ...

you had to be sucking up to him because he was the WoH's most powerful and fearless leader, right ? ... right, of course he's right ... so then why does your smile seem so genuine and bright ? how do you manage to fake being so caring in your position ?

he's always getting mistaken for/called the bossy brat who's an idiot - and while it may take him awhile to notice something rather than the others who do so faster - he's not dumb. he's not an ultimate for nothing and most certainly not just for his physical skills.

so when he notices and deduces your behavior to being ... caring and protective out of all things after a long while, he's still cautious and confused.

he'll confront you with his usual hot headedness (is that a word ? LMAO) and point his finger in your face, aggressively asking you why you keep doing such things. he's partly angry, but that's mainly because he's extremely confused and it annoys him.

when you tell him that he deserves a second chance and didn't deserve the treatment he got, he freezes and stares at you in confusion, a mix of emotions evident on his face as he grabs his hair and sweat drops with a nervous grin on his face.

"w-what are you talking about, you d-demon ... ? i-i don't ... it's not like i ... i c-care ..." he'll manage out while taking a few steps back, beginning to tremble, his face once again contorting to anger when he realizes he's shaking.

"what the ... ? no - i'm not scared ! i-i'm not scared, i'm not scared, i'mnotscared, i'mnotscaredi'mnotscaredi'mnot-"

at this point, he turned his back to you, repetitively hitting one of his arms with tears streaming down his face until he saw that his arm would stop shaking, shrieking when he felt you come up from behind him and gently grab his arms after the first few hits.

"what ... ! s-stay away from me, demon ! g-get away from me !" he'd shout while struggling in your grasp before eventually falling limp against your chest when he didn't have the strength to fight back any longer, confused as to why you hadn't already hit him or - well, killed him.

you began stroking his hair as he hesitantly buried his face in your chest, overwhelmed by your nurturing presence before silently sobbing with his face hidden away from you.

"why do you ... why do you care ..." he sniffled, absentmindedly leaning into your touch. were some demons really ... not ... demons ?

after inspecting masaru's bruises and giving him a bunch of affection, the following day he somewhat goes back to his usual rowdy behavior. however, he's noticeably softer and kinder to you - just when none of the other WoH are around.

he'd scold any of the others if they put you in harm's way, telling them to not mess with "lord masaru daimon's slave or else he'll smite them" ... he then went on to lean in your direction and ask you what the word smite even meant in a whisper 🤦‍♀️

he wakes you up really early by jumping on your bed energetically. not to be mischievous, but because he's excited someone is actually kind to him and nutures him. he wants to spend almost all his time with you doing things he never could before. it's really sad ... brb, mod taeko is crying.

but, yes, in conclusion - masaru is "secretly" babie and is hyped to be around you. he sometimes falls back into his old habits which is a given, such as stealing things, beating himself up physically, flinching away from you (especially when you're angry or upset), nervously smiling so that you don't hate him like he did with his dad - but he always tears up just a bit and looks like a sad puppy when he realizes you're not the same.

you actually care about him and his wellbeing. that realization itself made him choke back on a sob.

MONACA TOWA

monaca is an extremely intelligent girl despite her age. however, although she's smart, she's still a kid all at the same time. it can be hard to remember this with how confusing her behavior and actions seem.

monaca catches on to your behavior pretty fast. at first, she’s simply amused, playing along to see if you have any unknown motives and/or if you’re trying to deceive her like a fool, but when she realizes that your behavior and actions are genuine - she admittedly gets pretty taken aback.

“monaca doesn’t know why a demon such as yourself is being so kind to her, meow !” she admits with her mischievous and childish giggle following afterwards, glancing up at you from her wheelchair with her “innocent” doe eyes.

even though she's small, a bit frail, and in a wheelchair, she's still terrifying. more so because of her mysterious aura and unpredictable actions.

though she calls you out on your behavior, plays dumb, continues to try and manipulate you like she does with the others, and acts pretty indifferently towards you, you've begun to grow on her like a leech - and it's slowly beginning to annoy her.

she'll try to get you to go away by threatening you with any blackmail she can get her little grabby hands on, but you just. won't. go. away.

"why ! are ! you ! so ! per - sis - tent !" she practically shrieks when she finally snaps one day and confronts you, slamming her fists against her armrests on her wheelchair.

when you tell her it's because she deserves a second chance and she's not as bad as everyone makes her out to be, pure shock takes over her face and she sweat drops, little hands beginning to tremble while she digs her nails into the cushions of the armrests.

she quickly regains her composure though - or at least tries to, smiling as she sweats visibly and continues to shake like a leaf in the wind. she can't breakdown now. she has to make big sis junko proud of her.

"what are you ... ! ... what are you talking about, silly ? are you just saying that because you feel bad for me ? why would a demon like you feel bad for me when you demons are the reason i'm like this ?" she giggles with a menacing closed eyed smile, backing up slowly in her wheelchair.

she's been the unwanted child all her life. these emotions ... are so foreign to her. it's overwhelming. she's not sure how to deal with this. she's not sure if she even can.

when you come towards her to try and reassure her, she's unsure of how to react, grinning nervously as she's backed up into a wall now. you were going to hurt her now, weren't you ? she pissed you off and got you to snap and you were going to finally take it out on her, right ?

she contemplates getting out of the wheelchair to run, but you end up hugging her which leaves her confused and shocked for the millionth time.

tears slowly begin to fall down her face as she hesitantly reciprocates the hug, once again overwhelmed - but now because of how gentle your touch is.

"w-why do you care for me ... i've hurt so many people ... and my friends ..." she'd mumble into your shoulder, clinging onto your arm/sleeve. monaca tries to keep quiet and not sob, but tears are streaming like waterfalls from her face.

when you reassure her that she's not a bad person, just someone who needs help and deserves so much better, she hiccups and chokes back on a sob, wailing into your chest. eventually, all the crying takes a toll on her, and she ends up falling asleep against you.

that night, you got to tuck in a genuinely peaceful and relaxed monaca as she begged you while being half asleep to not leave. if you tell her in the morning what she said, she'll deny it was out of care with a sinister smile and simply state it's because she can't have you telling everyone she cried, but we both know the truth.

after that confrontation, monaca is a lot more open and noticeably sweeter & soft towards you. she doesn't say it often and most of the time denies it, but she tries to express it through acts of service.

she bakes you lots of cookies ! the warriors of hope always complain about who will taste her cookies first, but she simply snickers at them, giggly and bubbly as she tells them that they're actually for you.

they'll all groan when she presents them to you or you two cook/bake in the kitchen together, jealous that you get to taste her cooking/baking first before any of them.

she'll become extremely terrifying to anyone who dares to lay a hand on you in a harmful way. she'll threaten to send her robots out to get them with a little innocent chuckle and a closed eyed smile. or she'll hold a knife herself and make stabby motions with a smile. either one works.

at the end of the day, as much of a menacing gremlin she can act like at times, she can be pretty loving and caring, too. she just needs someone with patience for her to open up and help her get out her bad habits and old ways.

Phoebe forgave Cole when he spent the whole season 3 trying to kill her because « Balthazar did it » and Cole «changed » (🤷🏻‍♀️). Like Balthazar and Cole were two differents entities and Cole was a victim (I used to think that was bullshit and Cole should have been killed in s3.) Phoebe was even dating him when he was a demon using his power for « good »

So Why did phoebe was so hell bent on killing him in s05 and say that he was evil when he was infected by the Source ? You could argue that Cole and the Source were also two entities ? And that he was under the influence of the Source / a victim ?

In s05,He even tried to use his demonic powers for « good », exactly like S3. I guess i don’t get why in s03, Cole was a « innocent That had to be saved » but in s05 he had to be killed ?

pt i - 1k so out of universe explanation like as we moved into s4 the show really favored these long overarching plotlines as opposed to something like s2 which really didn't have any big plot just vibes. inching back a lil further i think in s3 the introduction of a demon love interest was really like. like kinda bound to happen now that we've given pleo their type of happily ever after the will they won't they is over the heavens forbid it is over now we need another relationship to add a bit of spice to the mix and what better than like. a demon? so you run phole and they're kinda. your main source of drama consistently throughout the season yes there's the vague looming threat of the source but really it's phoebe and cole weaving together thru these episodes putting meat on these bones. i think the first faux-vanquish was bound to happen, because like the relationship is still so fresh and you haven't even got to the demon-tries-to-be-good point yet you're still in the heat and angst of betrayal like baby. there are still miles to go here. there's no way you're ending this yet. (which like. yeah i agree like. in universe cole totally should have been killed in s3. also out of universe bc like. i can't say i was hella in love with what was going on over there lmao. whoops.)

anyways. we hit season 4 and you have cole being good demon! yeah! but this whole time you kinda know what you're leading up to like the source is being name checked a bit too much here chekhov's demon if you will if the source doesn't actually you know fuckin show up and try to kill them this season well then what the fuck is he doing? but then. what do you do once u kill the source like end ur show r u joking moniee baby let's add some drama ooh u know what what if cole the demon became the source. which i think like. you need someone to become the source someone close to them and you can't do a sister (or can you?) because u need the power of three also what r u gonna kill a sister and you can't really do leo just because you've made him such a softboi healer kind emotional type. but u know who's dark n mysterious with an evil past who is very much tied up in the lives of our girls? cole.

so i think like from the beginning they knew they were doing source cole because how do u pick between the love of ur life and ur sisters the drama so on so forth i think they knew they needed phoebe married to cole before they went all in because you really need that he’s family too pull. but out of universe for the life of me i cannot tell if they were implying cole was actually evil or not. my personal conspiracy theory is that some people in the writers room were like cole is misunderstood and really trying to be good and others were like okay he was underworld’s top demon for 100 years maybe reflect on that?? and both these views are heading towards the same goal (source!cole) but have different opinions on who cole is beyond that plotline. but idk!

and then as a personal opinion i think the source plotline really bogged down s4 like. :/. and i think the show kinda felt that too that this wasn’t really sustainable the show is charmed after all named after the charmed ones if you have a show where there are just two witches one of them’s trying to kill their sister the other just got here and then our third sister is like. queen of hell, but is kinda being a bimbo about it (respectfully) like. that’s not charmed. it could be A Show, but it’s not this show, which i repeat. is charmed. which i think is why they immediately backtracked on the s5 intention to do Phoebe: Queen of Hell and then like snorted a line and powered out the quickest way to get phoebe back in the fold, to which the conclusion was: him or us. the whole core of the drama how do you pick between the love of your life and your sisters like. better decide the answer. you only get one. and obvi it’s gotta be the sisters; again: this is charmed also you already played your back pocket half-sister card you only get to use that move once. which means. sisters have been chosen. cole has to go.

but!! everyone loves cole everyone loves phoebe and cole they’re the ones bringing like. the heat the passion the sex appeal because respectfully piper and leo Are Not they’re the domestic fantasy and paige just got here so she’s not really ready to shoulder that burden quite yet. so like. phoebe and cole am i rite. let’s bring back cole. but u already had phoebe definitively chose her sisters you already had them vanquish cole you can’t really revert back to the same him vs them thing that powered s4 because you already know the answer. (i guess. again this is all just speculation i was not there when this was happening i was 5. wait actually. okay yeah s5 started airing in september 2002 i was 2. lmao.) but you’ve brought cole back what are you going to do with him what’s his main motivation. well. his motivation at first was kill phoebe. then it was i’m in love with phoebe. like it’s always been phoebe. so clearly it must be phoebe again. cole will do anything!! to get back phoebe. but it’s too late. phoebe has already made the irrevocable decision to be with her sisters. so therefore. cole will be obsessed with her and she will reject him at every turn. we’re gonna give cole a lot of screentime in this futile and cringe chase for love tho why? bc julian <3 what a guy. hey should he date paige?

pt ii - 1k and then an In Universe explanation let’s get started. phoebe has had no longer term relationships. definitely no on screen ones. the closest thing we got to any implication of serious romance was clay in s1. she didn’t get anywhere w eric bc his mind got wiped, the cupid was obvi a no-go from the beginning, and billy Isn’t Real. so this relationship with cole is really like the first serious relationship she’s had in a minute and she fell hard and she fell fast, but could you blame her? cole was literally her perfect guy he built himself to be Literally her perfect guy. and when you find out your perfect guy is a demon like. how do you rationalize that. because quite frankly he has had many opportunities to kill you can he hasn’t so like. he can’t be that bad. it can’t all be fake. you really hope it’s not all fake. and then, like, of course, there’s the belthazor element. like. he literally has a demon form. turns big red and scary. phoebe’s no demonologist. i’m sure she can just rationalize that as a jekyll and hyde situation cole is just some innocent strapped along for the hellish ride manned by some evil beast. but around her, he can conquer that demon. because that’s a demon. belthazor’s a demon. cole is a human cole is good cole is an innocent and he had no power over those things. so i think that’s the mentality that phoebe really carried thru to s4, and then cole becomes human. and then cole becomes the source, but you don’t know it. and cole really tries to fight the source when he’s with her you know true love is the greatest force blah blah blah so like. odds are phoebe doesn’t notice. a) we’re still kind of settling into the “new cole” because he hasn’t been demon-free well, like, ever, so u need to figure out what that looks like and then b) now that he doesn’t have his jekyll-side or whatever you two are free you can be in love and god do you want to be in love you want something that’s yours something to hold on to because lately it kind of seems that everything you love is being ripped away so god please can you just have this one thing that’s yours. so i think phoebe really overlooked any signs of cole’s source possession. she only saw cole. her cole. the man she loved. Which Means When Shit Really Hit The Fan, phoebe doesn’t see this as the source possession finally taking over she has no idea of the internal battle cole has been facing inside himself (and then not to mention phoebe is also kinda drugged up rn on pure evil so we’re not in the Best headspace) phoebe kinda just seeing this as the mask being ripped off. all the clues she’s been ignoring over the past couple months have been finally exposed: cole is evil. (which: the clues actually read as cole is possessed By evil. but who’s gonna tell her that? the seer? no one else knows if anyone should know it’s phoebe but she was so busy trying to pretend everything was perfect that she was finally gonna get to be happy that she missed the source living right under her nose so. whoops.)

and then entering s5 i think phoebe keeps with the mentality that cole was actually evil this whole time. like she didn’t know he was possessed she didn’t know when this possession started so the natural conclusion is cole is just Like This and she’s a bimbo. blinded by love. and i think this really starts to backtrack and put everything else in a negative light because like. had she not been trying to save cole prue wouldn’t have died. also. cole never explicitly told her that belthazor was a separate entity. she had just assumed. because she thought she knew him. but clearly she didn’t because he was the fucking source of all evil and she couldn’t tell because evidently she didn’t know cole at all. he and belthazor were probably just one and the same. he let her believe that, let her see what he wanted to see, so he could have what he wanted. her. all to himself. no one else no other life but him. and i mean again who’s gonna refute that i think phoebe really builds up an echo chamber in her head calling herself and idiot calling cole evil and promising to never fall for it again that by the time cole shows up ready to give it one last shot at good, phoebe’s like no. i’ve seen what you are before. and i’m not gonna get another sister killed i’m not gonna fall for evil again. because!! cole trying to be good in s5 looks the same as cole trying to be good in s3 s4. cole being in love with phoebe in s5 looks the same as cole being in love with phoebe in s3 s4 (actually it’s a lil bit more bonkers and possessive but u get the point). and this is because he was! he was in love with phoebe he was trying to be good, but phoebe, post-source!cole almost killing her sisters, has reached to conclusion that cole that whole time was consciously evil, because she was never able to tell the difference between her cole and source!cole, given the fact he always actively suppressed that side around her. around her, cole never changed, despite getting progressively more evil to the world around him, because his love for phoebe fought it off. which really was the downfall. because if she had seen the markers and seen him as something other than her cole, maybe this whole thing could have been salvaged. but she was blinded by her love for roughly like what. two three months? and in her head reached the conclusion that she was actually blinded by love the entire time. so rather than fall for that again she just kept her eyes shut.

Charlotte and Henry have been TTC for years now with no results, my theory is that the miscarriage was complicated and caused a lot of scar tissue, and now Charlotte cant get pregnant, so once her time as Consul is up (which is presumably soon, given how the merry thieves theorize that Bridgestock is vying for Consul next term) she and Henry will adopt, either twin girls or 2 girls close in age, like 2/3 year age gap at max.

I really like Eugenia and would like to read more about her.

Alastair comforting Cordelia is so sweet, they are such an iconic sibling duo.

meet chimay (cici!) lemonides. she’s almost 24, and still doesn’t know how to change a tire. nor will she ever. because she’s hot.

a double leo (sun and rising) with an aries moon = an intense showoff demon who stands at only 5′3″.

the middle child of the lemonides girls. and it shows. discovered that she could do a lot of forward rolls at the age of 3 and was quickly enrolled into gymnastics by her parents to discourage her from Trying This At Home antics.

the lemonides are nouveau riche and definitely sported the title proudly, soaring on the back of malcolm lemonides. the women in their small family outnumbered him 3:1 but it was never a problem to the patriarch. he preferred to let them speak for him, especially his headstrong wife, dawn.

which is why their divorce came to be such a shock to most folks, especially cici, who basically adored her parents’ romance. they were college sweethearts and best friends who realized that after having their beautiful girls, that the romantic spark had essentially blew out. they’re still close as ever even though dawn remarried and malcolm is definitely a Silver Fox™ but i digress - this is about cici amirite.

she was 13 and it definitely skewed her sense of relationships because her parents would unknowingly say things about the other (”jokingly”) in front of the girls. lots of fun dinners where they’d drag the fuck out of each other with a smile and their kids were on e d g e lmao.

when cici was 14, she had her first love (sorry luda, she was a late bloomer) with a boy in her childhood friend group. it was full of angst and absolutely tumultuous. their friends bullied them to stop dating after a year but the two remained “Sneaky Links”... with an occasional sprinkle of cici being an absolute b word to any girl who dared to involve themselves with him.

as Dance Captain of the high school and also being a riche heaux, it was easy for cici to fall into the popular crowd of MW, but she didn’t necessarily care for it. she was a party girl through and through, and she was excellent at talking up parents and authority figures.

which is why when she was involved with the factory fire of June 2019, she spiraled and ditched town for about a year and a half to keep the heat off her, trying to shed any involvement from herself. easier said than done when your whole life is in this goddamn town. of course she’d come back with her tail between her legs. honestly? a part of her wants to see how long she can dance with fire.

OK so the Absolvisti sequel's been sitting in my head since well, the week after I published it lmao. But I never got around to writing because I wasn't sure if it was being too self-indulgent (I'm feeling more confident about it now that I know you'll be pleased by it!). Also because I was having trouble deciding on a pov: should I continue with the Tatiana 1st person pov as always? Change it up to Martin 3rd person? or surprise: 1st person Don Juan?? Should it be a new chapter or new fic? (def. open to suggestions here!) Also I think it'd be Iconic to publish a story in the Dies Irae universe with our new cat profile pics.

Graphic detail time :D Prepare for a SUPER LONG answer LMAO. Most of the things I mentioned here and here will make their way in, with maybe a bonus ns/fw chapter from Martin or Andres' pov. The main story is SFW however, and there's like a hilariously high amount of hurt!Andres, who doesn't have demons to rely on anymore but still carries all the permanent damage the demons left on him:

It takes place some months after Absolvisti so Andres is doing better, but not fully well yet. He's not actively dying anymore but he does faint a lot and isn't exactly making a full recovery. Because I wanted to make things harder for Martin. Because he's not a young man anymore, the wounds were super extensive, and this is the result of years of accumulated damage + a form of "withdrawal" (the shadows/demons that used to feed on him were also the things that kept him alive so it's one big cycle that his body isn't leaving that easily).

This means every time Martin plans something nice for him like seeing a play or going out for a nightly walk, Andres can't go through the whole thing without feeling unwell. (Martin: "I over-exerted the love of my life. I am so SELFISH. what does Andres see in me??" Andres: "I disappointed the love of my life. I am the WEAKEST. what does Martin see in me??" Tatiana: feed me, bitches)

They manage to sit through one play though (not sure if I want this at the beginning or end of the fic LMAO). It's the one Bogota wrote, The Necromancer's Lament, a "biopic" about Andres' life. And it's every bit as terrible as Martin expected. Bad special effects, bad acting especially from Martin's actor, Andres' actor has a beard, and Tatiana looks like this:

Andres thinks it's the best play ever. Martin hates it and demands a refund. Tatiana hates it too but Don Juan's like, "mi amor, you are still beautiful to me, even as a deformed puppet."

Martin's 120-page complaints aside, Bogota runs the theatre troupe with his partner, Nairobi/Agata, and they're both going to start teaching performing arts at Santa Catalina because the last drama professor died lmao

Meanwhile, Santa Catalina has a new bad girl student, Tokyo/Silene! Sergio took her in as a charity case after some dark and mysterious events in her life. But Tokyo being Tokyo can't stay away from trouble, and she becomes obsessed with finding the demons that Andres expelled. Some bizarre possessions start happening again and the school's sponsors force Raquel to keep it under wraps. (Raquel: maybe if you increased funding, we wouldn't have so many problems!!)

In the meantime, Martin gets that letter from a long lost relative asking to meet him. Not sure about the order of this either. Anyway, Martin was planning to ignore the relative, but Andres insists he go. Either Tatiana or Don Juan accompany him. Martin learns that he's the sole heir of his dead parents across the sea (the will: “we forgive you for being a heretic, a freak of nature, and the alchemist of Palermo. also no hard feelings for leaving you to die as a baby xoxoxo”). There's one (1) condition though: he has to end his partnership with the necromancer. Martin: NO THANKS.

So while Martin's dealing with this unexpected drama, Sergio decides to call in Andres' expertise TM again because it's also a good excuse to talk to his brother. Martin is Very wary about this and rejects him. But Andres insists that it'll be fine. Plus, maybe he wants to turn a new leaf and help Santa Catalina for nothing in return this time. Not everyone gets a second chance at life and he doesn't want to be a bad person anymore uwu (Tatiana: "Andres was a pretentious piece of shit, surprising no one." Martin: "Nobody deserves Andres, not even me, and I'm like, the most amazing person in the world.")

Andres comes to do the exorcism with the random priest the school hired. And they discover there aren't any demons- it's just some ghost fucking around (maybe I'll make it the spirit of Gandia or Alicia since they haven't shown up yet lol). Anyway, it doesn't go very well but Andres gets rid of the creature or whatever. Not before it punctures a hole in his side though. Then Martin loses it, just full-on screams at Sergio for almost getting Andres killed again, makes a lot of threats against the school, etc. etc.

Raquel, being more useful, plugs up the wound. But the priest accidentally provokes Martin more by asking Raquel if he should mop up Andres' blood with holy water or something. What if the necromancer's blood is cursed?? And now it's all over the floor, so disgusting :/

Martin, already in a very bad mood, beats the priest up.

They go home. Martin's in a really sour mood and he just doesn't understand why Andres isn't mad at Sergio. Martin: "It's really emotionally damaging to me if you don't give a fuck about yourself." Andres makes him even angrier by bringing up the Berrote family will and having the audacity to suggest Martin leave him for money. He makes a huge case about how he literally has nothing to offer Martin except a body that barely works and a terrible reputation. Martin: "I lost a fucking eye for you??"

They fight and Martin storms away, and also kidnaps Don Juan, his honorary new soulmate who would never betray him like Andres.

A while after this, the Spanish Inquisition local clergy arrests Andres for "questioning." Because the shenanigans at Santa Catalina are still going on and that one priest suspects him of being behind everything just because. Raquel's the one who bails him out. She may not like Sergio's brother, but the way everyone else treats him is ridiculous.

Andres limps home, hoping Martin's still away. Surprise! Martin felt guilty and came back. And it's pretty obvious that Andres has just been tortured. Martin: "Say no more. I'm going to kill some people."

Andres gets Martin to not do anything stupid by dropping the thing with the will. He admits he was wrong for saying those things to Martin and he selfishly, genuinely wants to stay with Martin forever. Martin: "I'm still going to kill your brother. You may appease me with a kiss."

Does it end here? No! Because the shit at Santa Catalina is still happening. Andres and Martin solve it for good though. But it's all very dramatic. I'm vaguest about this part, but maybe Nairobi's injured saving Tokyo, and this gives Tokyo the wakeup call to move on from whatever baggage that got her into this mess in the first place. Then Andres' solution for saving Nairobi is to ask Martin to work that alchemist magic and transfer her wounds onto himself (at this point, we're just going overboard with the Andres whump but asdfasdf why stop??). Raquel: Sergio, tell your brother to stop dying. That's a bad example for the kids.

It takes a lot of convincing, but Martin relents in the end, only because he trusts Andres. At this point, Andres has been through so much that he physically cannot take any more damage. Like, he just can't lmao. So the whole process puts Andres into a coma or something. But we don't need him anymore because now we can revel in Martin's angst!

Martin spends the rest of his time crying and angsting and guilt-tripping Sergio, and just being very loud in general. He also writes back to his family and tells them to fuck off.

Once we indulge in enough of Martin's pain, Andres finally wakes up. Still very bad off but he's alive and not showing signs of dying any time soon. So that's good enough for Martin. They have a nice heart-to-heart, and idk, maybe Raquel comes to see them because Sergio's too embarrassed to. Until Andres insists, because he loves hermanito unconditionally uwu. Martin: "watch your back, Sergio. I might murder you in your sleep (:"

Then at the very end (I have no idea how long this story is LOL), there's some kind of family photoshoot between Raquel, Sergio, and Paula. Everyone's raving over this new invention called the "camera." Andres is admiring it from a distance until Raquel's like, "get over here. what part of FAMILY photoshoot do you not understand!?"

Andres is shocked pikachu face because good will towards him for once?? he's being included in something?? people want him around?? what is happening??

Martin's happy for him though. Then he's admiring from a distance until Raquel's like, "I said FAMILY photoshoot. Get over here, Martin!"

Tatiana didn't want to be a part of it, but Paula saw her favorite talking cat and like, grabbed her lmao. Don Juan photobombs it because he can't be excluded from an activity with Tatiana, especially when his former rival Andres is in the photo too. (His current rival is Casanova, an unworthy white cat vying for Tatiana's affections)

Sergio proposes to Raquel. The end! Yes, the kitty love triangle is also a central theme of this story LMAO Hope that satisfies you, nharidy! And I welcome any and all suggestions!

jason stop dying

ooooook i just watched ditf. it was PRETTY GOOD.... i only wish there was MOOORE! watching this REALLY brought me back to 2011 times to see it and i think they did a good job with most of the character design and animations insofar as matching it to the original. (maybe i’m totally wrong but i thought it looked good for the most part... also i just really love these character designs in particular). obviously the budget is not what it would be on a feature, so there are a LOT of places where animation gets recycled and many still frames. some parts are basically a slideshow lol. but i only sort of came to that realization awhile after watching, so i think they did a fairly good job of masking this... ymmv

so let’s get into it!!!

SPOILERS a-head! do not read until you’ve watched it because i’ll spoil everything

now obviously the thing to be aware of if you are not is the fact that this adaptation is not a panel-by-panel adaptation of the original death in the family comic. all references to jason’s mother (save one mention of her dying of illness) are completely removed, they go to bosnia instead of africa, and the circumstances around jason leaving are also heavily altered to fit the new narrative. this adaptation does slot perfectly into the universe established by the under the red hood animated movie from 2011 though, without which one would be pretty confused when watching this. it’s kind of a mystery as to why they didn’t just package this with utrh and release the entire thing as a collectors edition. instead they package it with like 4 or 5 unrelated dc showcase shorts which makes absolutely 0 sense but go off i guess. anyway

i liked that they took the time to adapt the scene from the original ditf where bruce is talking to alfred about jason! (i do not like that alfred didn’t get any lines. bad choice). tbh i can’t understand why they bothered showing us alfred, barbara and dick if they weren’t gonna give them any lines..... like come on........??

HOW INTENSE BRUCE LOOKS WHEN HE FINDS JASON IN SARAJEVO and just. grabs him lol. hes smad :)

ok so one two skip a few and we get to the first branch. instead of calling 1-900 we now get to choose whether jason lives or dies. there are 7 possible endings i think i got em all so let’s see what we got here.

“Hush” Route - Robin cheats death

hgrgdggr. i definitely think this is one of the more interesting endings, if not the most interesting one. this is also the only ending in which both bruce and jason survive the bombing. bruce is still too late, but this time jason barely clings to life and survives. as a hurt/comfort fan i was 100% on this shit from the word go but then jason? runs away from home lmao lmao i thought that was SO funny because 1) hes super messed up, how is he able to just literally run out the house that is SO funny to me and 2) implying that bruce would ever not be keeping an eye on him after that is just, lmao. it’s so zany. i call this the “hush” route because of the bandages but there are no other references to hush so ok. that’s fair. so anyway jason is now angsty for loosely explained reasons but the most fun part is yet to come.

when talia showed up, i really thought / was terrified for a second that they were gonna bring up certain “events” regarding damian’s parentage / who damian’s father is but then she mentioned bruce and i was like OH THANK GOD WE CAN STILL GO TO HEAVEN. i am so so grateful to the writers for NOT going there. cuz it was damn close ok. im not sure what the implication of this route is in terms of talia, jason and damian being a family unit but i want to believe talia sees jason as a son and damian’s brother (which is how she refers to him, damian’s brother) and not... yknow. i mean. jason raising a baby is kind of like a baby raising a baby...

no actually the reality of this scene is really dfuckin interesting like. they actually go with the “birth of the demon” (forget if it was birth of the demon or bride of the demon. one of those.) explanation for damian and that is something i’ve NEVER seen adapted so whoever wrote this can have a cookie and i kNOW this is something a certain someone will appreciate :)

not only that but the implications? are interesting? so talia’s claim is she miscarried so bruce won’t have to “choose” between damian and jason and idk if she’s supposed to be all on the-up-and-up in this universe but. i’m sitting here like GIRL YOU DON’T GOTTA DO THIS HE HAS A PRIVATE JET HAVEN’T YOU HEARD OF SHARED CUSTODY and BETTER YET HE HAS A MANSION JUST GO ON MAURY AND GET THIS SORTED OUT RIGHT NOWwwww

i’m also LAUGHING at the implications of jason thinking theres anywhere on earth that he’s going to go and hide damian’s existence from bruce. because you already know he’s just going to be tearing the planet apart looking for jason so this is actually hilarious. imagine he finds jason in one piece and also a baby. his baby. he’d be like (@ talia) “OMG WHY WOULD YOU THINK I WOULDN’T WANT THEM BOTH u are tearing me apart talia......” BUT THEN HE WOULD BE SO FREAKING HAPPY BECAUSE HE HAS TWO ALIVE SONS AND HE THOUGHT THEY WERE BOTH DEAD / (lost to crime)!!!

please lord imagine all of jason’s angst probably just originating from the fact that he has a brain injury that hasn’t fully healed and the trauma of going through all those surgeries probably gave him a lot of fear / paranoia about bruce and associating him with the joker because his neural pathways are all messed up but after he leaves he starts slowly healing back and regaining some of his lost sanity and thats when he realizes he misses bruce so much... but hes also raising his child... and every day it gets more difficult for him not to just take damian and bring him home and i ;v;

anyway i thought this route, while it had a few inconsistencies in it, was really freaking interesting and it gave me feels and plot bunnies and is probably the one i want to write about the MOST despite the fact that baby damian looks like a character from one of those web flash games in this lol

“True” End - Jason Dies

now if you select that jason dies the route basically defaults to the canon of under the red hood and the fact that utrh does not come packaged with this movie is a rather mystifying choice to me as i don’t think this adaptation would stand on its own very well. like you need quite a bit of background to really get anything out of watching this on its own, which is probably why it’s classified as a “short” and not as its own movie.

instead of showing all of utrh, it seems they took the opportunity to give a ~30 minute recap of utrh with basically entirely reused animation but they allow bruce to sort of. give his dvd commentary over it.

the biggest feeling i have on this is that it’s sad that they had to waste 30 minutes like this that could’ve been used to do something new and much more interesting, but honestly i’m not mad. it seems kind of obvious that this choice was probably made for budget and/or runtime reasons because a short does not get the same budget set aside as a full length feature film does. so they basically took the option of recycling 30 minutes of animation from the movie and dubbing new audio over it.

in evangelion they ran out of budget and that’s why the last two episodes consist of nothing more than still pencil drawings and frames while the characters engage in philosophical debates concerning the nature of reality and human connection. and i really enjoyed that. and for the same reasons, i also really enjoyed this.

i enjoyed seeing the clark kent of this universe. i enjoyed that he was basically out on a date with bruce. i enjoyed that bruce was willing to open up for once and tell clark all of what happened with jason. but what really makes this segment shine bright are bruce greenwood’s line reads. there are SO MANY good line reads in here. and i LOVED how many times he said the word “son”. very wholesome. the way he describes how he felt during the final fight with jason? probs my favorite FUCKING part.

and then him and clark joking together about contingency plans and then they’re going to work together to find jason and i ;_; this is probably the closest thing to a “good” ending but as a continuation of utrh i thought it worked really well. i really want to believe that bruce and clark did find jason in this route and that there was some closure in the end even though we didn’t get to see it.

including clark in this was DEFINITELY the right move as well, considering that he played a rather large role in the original ditf so it’s a welcome nod.

The rest of the branches exist under a separate option where Bruce makes it in time to save Jason from the warehouse... but Bruce dies......... :O

let me tell you bout it... bruce’s fucking DEATH SCENE i don’t know WHAT my man bruce greenwood is on, but the freaking LINE READS in this dialogue had me making INHUMAN NOISES. LIKE NOT ONLY WAS THE DIALOGUE GOOD, NOT ONLY DID HE SAY “I LOVE YOU, SON”, but this man is just an amazing actor. not just voice actor, but actor. he really really really really gave it the most i don’t know how else to say it....... it was very very well done and punched me sideways in the heart and i haven’t recovered and i’m not going to recover. and

ok so once we get past that.... scene.... u have to choose whether you’re going to catch the joker or kill the joker. bruce asks jason to promise not to kill the joker but technically jason doesn’t promise so........

Let’s start by choosing to kill the Joker. Jason attends Bruce’s funeral and various members of the Justice League show up to talk with him and just generally hang out. He has Alfred, Dick and Barbara as his support system, but Jason has some other plans.

This leads to a scene in a cafe where Jason meets with a man who... something something Killing Joke, flashlight, more Barbara being used as a plot device when she deserves better, Jason kills the Joker with a butter knife.

Once you do this you can choose to surrender to the police, or retaliate and escape.

Jailbird Ending

basically if you surrender to the police jason ends up in prison where he can actually attack even more criminals so.... ya

If you retaliate and escape instead you go to the Red Robin route where Jason becomes a vigilante who kills people much like the Red Hood and you get a further choice in a fight with Two Face where you can control how Harvey’s coin lands.

Tim Ending!

If you choose the coin to land clean face up, the thing rewards you by having Tim show up and I forgot what happened (wasn’t really paying attention lol) because i was so focused on TIM!

Prolly they felt sorry for him what with Jason stealing what is essentially his outfit (ok I know it was Jason’s first, but Tim made it cool) so they let a little baby tim have an appearance :) he’s very smol

I guess in this ending Jason gets reintegrated with the family somehow and Tim becomes “Bat-kid” which is hilarious to me but you know what it’s cute. CUTE.

The one ending where the coin lands scarred side up

i honestly forget what happens if you choose to have the coin land scarred side up but let me just say this is a FUCKED route to take, not only have you had jason survive and bruce die, you’ve now chosen to kill the joker against bruce’s dying wish, you’ve chosen to attack the police, and at the end of that you really are gonna choose harvey’s coin to be scarred face up???? choosing this made me feel like a DICK because here i am supporting jason’s whole fall to madness and villainy thing the way it wants me to and now he’s gonna die HERE? i hate it here.

interestingly enough he doesn’t actually die in this route. he ends up at home with barbara and dick while dealing with the fact that he killed the joker but the route ends with jason saying “i promise” so i guess this is supposed to be kinda sad. im so confused lol ok

So that is all the options if you choose to kill the joker, I believe. You can also make the choice to just catch him instead of killing him but amazingly enough, those routes are even more FUCKED up.

If you do this option Jason goes home, mourns Bruce with Dick, Barbara and Alfred, and becomes Red Hood BUT with a twist, he’s entirely on a bloodless operation in line with Bruce’s wishes. OR.... IS HE?

Things then follow the events of UTRH until the scene on the bridge with the van and the guys. Jason finally confronts Joker, who reveals the truth.

Apparently in this route Jason has actually been killing and decapitating his victims just like in the original movie, but he’s repressed it so as to not even realize to himself that he’s doing it.

that is FUCKED. also. i wanna cry because jason doing all of that stuff but not even realizing it ;------; jason blocking it out, because he wanted to honor bruce’s wishes for him not to kill anyone ;______; but he’s doing it anyway ;_____; he’s actually hearing voices telling him to kill ;____; like it’s a very cheap twist in a sense and also really quite cruel but.... damn, son.

There is a branch here where you can choose to spare or kill the Joker at this point (UNDERTALE???) but from what I can tell it seems to be totally meaningless what choice you pick because you end up at the exact same point either way, I think there’s a small variation in what happens after you make the choice but after that they just coalesce back together into the following two endings. Which seems incredibly cheap to me, I mean making a choice like that should alter Jason’s path completely but, it doesn’t! So... ooook....

Either way Jason ends up on the Wayne building and Talia shows up with a re-animated Bruce from the pit. Here’s another fun blast from the 2011 past with more gratuitous Grant Morrison dreck, remember that shit? Well, they’re gonna jam it down your throat here, too.

The reanimated Bruce is the Zur En Arrh Bruce and he’s already dead so this is all meaningless but basically Jason fights him and you get to choose whether everybody lives or dies.

Zur En Arrh - Everyone Lives!

if you pick this, jason actually gets the re-animated bruce back to the batcave and they lock him up down there because he’s still pit-mad and the prognosis is not great. but i’m not sure what they expected, he is the zur-en-arrh guy so I don’t think he’s getting better.

Zur En Arrh - Everyone Dies!

pretty much there’s an explosion and all three of them die and that’s it

I think that should be all the possible endings there are.

By the way the different ways in which black mask dies in this was actually a fairly clever running gag lollll. let that mf burn we don’t need no water.

overall there are a couple of things i would have done to SIGNIFICANTLY improve this adaptation beyond some of the obvious ones.

- the fact that all of the branching options are branched exclusively under the “jason lives and bruce dies” branch is a huge wasted opportunity. imo this is the most egregious problem with this, i was really looking for a more balanced tree / explanation of different things. i am probably super biased though being a fic writer and used to fic, we’re the ones making huge ass trees every day lol.

- the fact that there is no “good” ending here is something i kind of expected but given the context of this is lackluster. i sort of get it though because granted, the original ditf ends in an unresolved manner but it’s distinctly unsatisfying here. i secretly wanted an ending where bruce, like, figures out about the different endings and hacks reality to try to find a good ending where jason lives and everything is fine lmao. like a bat mite ending.

- i was disappointed in a sense that the narrative given in here is so basically simplistic? maybe i’ve been spoiled by games like 999 and undertale where shit gets messy and that’s not what this is supposed to be but when i play something with multiple endings in this day and age, at least play with the concept a little bit and connect some of the branches together narratively. use different devices. i was also hoping some of the choices would be a little bit meatier like you could choose to “forgive bruce” or something cool like that lol. but it looks like the majority of choices have to do with who lives or dies. and i felt like they couldve been a bit more creative with that ya know? being able to control harvey’s coin was a GREAT example of having some more fun with this.

- it is a huge missed opportunity not to have a “secret ending” on something like this. like where. the fuck. is my secret ending for completing everything. come on. and in a similar vein there should’ve been at least something in terms of bruce and jason interacting in a “true ending”. even if very brief. the closest thing to an ending this has is the “jason died” route and then the ending where he’s talking to clark which i feel like was a REALLY nice good optimistic ending as far as this goes, but it comes off as kind of disappointing i guess

there were SO many interesting nuggets locked into this thing though. i can’t deny it bugs me how many wasted opportunities there were with how they chose to structure things but i guess it’s the best you can do with limited runtime. i thought it was really well done though, makes an interesting companion piece to the original utrh, and is definitely something that i will be re-watching again soon!! overall i give it a 7/10 and some parts an 8/10+!

premise

thousands of years ago, the Floral Deity/Zi Fen was dying due to being literally burned by love (long story, flashback eps later). Right before she bites it, she gives birth to a baby girl named jin mi and is so capital-D Done with men and their lowercase d’s (and saw a prophecy or whatever) that she gives her baby a pill that makes her unable to feel love as well as a seal that locks down her powers. she tells her assistants not to fuck with either.

the assistants are clearly uncomfortable by this whole premise, but agree to raise jin mi without her knowing her true heritage, power, or love. this will work well in the long term, everyone thinks. everything will be great, everyone thinks.

for 4000 years, it all seems to be going well enough as jin mi is raised ignorant but happy in her little bio-dome.

but then a fucking bird falls through it:

that bird is actually the true PHOENIX form of Heavenly Prince Xu Feng, who has been injured after reaching nirvana by some SCHEMERS. jin mi takes him in, nurses him to health (after attempting to cut off his penis because she thought it was a tumor yeah really Flower Realm sex ed leaves a lot to be desired), and in exchange she makes him take her to the Heaven Realm aka the EXACT place mama Flower Deity NEVER EVER wanted her to go for REASONS

from there, jin mi meets various deities, gets caught up in some intrigue, carries around a succulent, and maybe there’s a murder or ten. get ready for some Epic Shit.

our hero! having been given an elixir that stops her from feeling or understanding love, jin mi comes across as naive, bubbly, and sometimes a lil dense. as a minor magical being (grape elf lol), she doesn’t have a lot of power but that changes because we’re on an epic, baby. she wears a hairpin that suppresses her gender and power and so she’s often mistaken for a dude

center of a reverse harem that includes dudes and ladies. bestower of terrible nicknames. has mastered the DRAMATIC HAIR TWIRL. is amazing and knows it. watches ur dirty dreams For Science

xu feng / god of war / prince of heaven

the Crown Prince of the Heaven Realm whose natural form is a phoenix. he’s also the god of war because why not and a bit of a himbo/bird brain (ba dum tish). he falls in love with jin mi and completely misses the signs that she is missing his signs.

only drinks natural spring water so you get the vibe that he’s a cosmic foodie. jock that goes through a pretty intense goth phase. could better check his privilege. seduction a la the art of war

runyu / god of night

xu feng’s older half-brother via concubine, and therefore Not the Crown Prince. his natural form is a dragon, and he’s the god of night. a certified Sad Boy, he’s lonely all the time, like his only friend aside from xu feng is a lil baby deer that eats dreams and burbs them out as bubbles.

he’s really chill and nice and yeah the illegitimate son who lives in isolation, falls in love with his bro’s girl, and has severe mom hang-ups is going to have a totally great time in a cdrama :| mmwhatchasay

yanyou / mr puchi

the actual, literal definition of a “smug snake.” yanyou is the snake deity and Up To Something No Good that we don’t know for awhile. BUT he’s been bros with jin mi since she was in the floral realm, and is pretty much the bestest of friends to her despite all his bullshit (he’s got a lot of all that bullshit). will take you to BOTH types of brothels because he supports your journey, man

liuying

demon princess and bestie of xu feng (and just friends! REFRESHING). she is five ounces of whoopass with a Thing for phantom of the opera cosplayers. whips it baby, whips it right

dan zhu / the fox fairy

xu feng and runyu’s uncle, the younger brother of the Heavenly Emperor. he’s a fox fairy as well as the god of love and marriage. grade-A meddler. diehard jin mi/xu feng shipper. lover of porn.

princess/current leader of the bird tribe (natural form a peacock) and xu feng’s cousin. is super super trying to lock that shit down with him, so she can become heavenly empress and because she loves him or whatever. is STUPID gorgeous like what demon did she deal with for that face

xu feng’s mom, also a phoenix/original head of the bird tribe, and i really don’t think i need to explain this character after you’ve seen this picture. she is exactly who you think she is.

there’s also the heavenly emperor but that bitch don’t get a photo in my recap

Drawbacks

holy hetero, batman! there’s a few lines that had me rolling my eyes

almost all of the main cast have an EQ as deep as a teaspoon, xufeng in particular is super insensitive at times

i am probably in the minority but GOOD GOD we did not need the amount of muci that we got. at all. there was too much/i started skipping all his scenes. you’re tragic, we get it

not a drawback so much as a warning, but jin mi is often the victim of manipulation. she breaks free/has an EPIC “reason you suck!” speech later, but it’s good to know ahead of time

Reasons to Watch.

genuinely hilarious??? which is super impressive considering how DARK this shit could get.

jin mi is so loveable. team jin mi forever

costume porn and how. and also my Supreme Jam of the costuming reflecting the character arcs as the show goes

this series has everything: a baby deer that vomit dreams, sad dragon merman princes, a girl that becomes a grape. corpse weddings

idk you want your DRAMA you want your ROMANCE you want all the colors pulled from your eyes and put into an ORB???

Actually has a pretty happy ending which is LMAO fucking phenomenal based on my (limited) experiences w/ cdramas!
