i'm probably going to update my rules in terms of how combat if any, granted how lazy and uninterested fri.eren is in battle, are conducted and what i myself, as a mun will allow granted i write a very, very overpowered muse. this doesn't equate to 'unkillable / undefeatable ' but i frankly see interactions with people who pursue her line of the ' height / apex of magic ' as fern calls fri.eren's prowess just doing a dungeon, who still to this current updates in the manga , has not revealed her full hand which.. is absolutely terrifying, more of a teacher.

in most cases granted fri.eren's absurdly huge mana pool, which is quoted to be almost the same amount as serie's, who fri.eren isn't even half her age, or less!, her 1000+ years of knowledge and experience, i think it's important how well the fight between fern against her clone and ultimately frier.en facing her own replica demonstrates that experience > most anything else. you can be a prodigy like fern and there will still be a gap. you can have incredible imagination like ubel , but with sheer numbers, still be overwhelmed like the replicas overpowering her and denken in 'attrition'.

it isn't just ' fri.eren' is the main character . this is a character that 9/10 i think of my interactions has likely lived longer than most muses she'll meet, if not, cool! but those 1000+ years of experience, magic, instinct, mana pool, and battle strategy, the woman has killed the most demons in history including the demon king, kind of cement that despite the 'cute elf falls into a mimic for fun' is really the last person you'd want to test. thankfully, i think it's more in character for fri.eren unless it's a crisis, to be a teacher, something she excels at with fern, who only would have gotten that far with her own prowess and efforts as her own brand of prodigous young mage, and also having spent time actually /studying/ fri.eren over time journeying with her and knowing her personally. it's not something you'd come with naturally, and even THEN the 1000+ years vs her what, 16? time makes a huge difference. but she still is someone fri.eren is highly looking forward to watching succeed, and it shows how incredible a teacher she is even for brief periods of time, like with lawine and kanne.

this doesn't mean fri.eren is invulnerable. but granted as a manga-reader too , we still haven't seen her go all out, which, i'm not sure if we will or not ? granted her lazy nature and dislike of fighting 'strong opponents' even if frankly, she is the strong opponent, frightfully so, i'll be picky with any fight / combative threads against her, as again, i write an immensely overpowered character and i'm not going to bend canon or my muse to have her magically 'lose' for no reason even if MY muse could genuinely care less about battles, and madhouse really hammers that home when i think we as an audience almost are lulled into this sense of security with fri.eren as a character with her laziness, her sloth like nature, her bouts of silliness with mimics and her tenderness with fern, awkward as it may be, until it really slaps you in the face be it the anime or the manga. this is someone you would not want to fight by choice.

i just love the heavy emphasis of years / mana pool vs variety of magic, and how years of experience, impossible levels of years that go on and on for, well, ever, basically, are still 9/10 going to crush the opposition. but still the era of humans is coming and fri.eren looks forward to it immensely. as the humans learn, one of the last living elves, will learn too, for fun though like let her nap okay?

i'm just really happy with this episode. if your muse ever wants a part-time teacher though, frie.ren will be happy to oblige. her main focus is her apprentice and familial figure, fern, who will certainly rise to great heights in the era of humans, but if you ever need someone who likely will catch onto your methods / be an impartial teacher who actually ironically is amazing at teaching . . . fri.eren is your woman.

arthur (prince of camelot) still has to study under a tutor bc yknow uther wants him to be very intelligent before becoming king or something bc its super important idk idc anyways merlin is doing chores in his chambers while arthur is squinting at a book and merlin eventually caves and asks him what he’s reading and arthur gruffly explains that its a collection of stories from greece that make absolutely no sense so merlin asks him to read them outloud to him. arthur of course teases him and calls him an idiot and asks how he could possibly help but does as he’s asked and reads the stories to merlin as he does his chores. merlin (being crushed under the weight of destiny and tormented by the prophecies that kilgharrah spews) understands the stories almost immediately and gets all excited and starts rambling about them with arthur. arthur is glad to have someone who understands so he can give something that reflects a hint of understanding to his tutor who accepts it and moves onto the next unit of education.

the thing is, arthur finds more stories in camelot’s library and brings them up to his room to read them aloud to merlin under the guise of completing his studies but really he just wants to watch as merlin’s eyes gleam when he understands whats happening and listen to him ramble on and on about them bc he’s gay. the stories stick with merlin though and he realizes that they’re cautionary tales, that the heroes who were told too much of their future doomed themself to fulfill them - that them fighting the prophecies led to their completion. merlin takes it to heart and gives a big “fuck you” to kilgharrah before forging his own fate and helping morgana with her magic and handing out an olive branch to mordred and now everyone can live happily and peacefully in an albion teeming with magic.

More selkieverse worldbuilding time. Fun fact: all selkies are bound to one of the four classical elements (fire, earth, air, water). The specific element varies by individual, but it tends to run in families - due, largely, to the fact that the creature that your pelt belongs to tends to heavily affect how inclined members of a strain may be to being a given element. The best-known, of course, are pinnipeds, who are almost always Water aligned, but marsupial selkies are known for frequently being aligned to Earth, and nearly every single avian strain out there will trend strongly towards Air. Fire tends to be rarest, with no consistent lines, turning up only occasionally in individual selkies.

When aligned to an element, a selkie will naturally be drawn to that thing - Water often produces an impossibly strong draw to water, both the sea and any other bodies of water that may be available to a selkie. Earth might be drawn underground, spelunking or tunneling and going ever deeper until some Earth selkies may wind up not seeing the sun for weeks or months at a time. Air, of course, produces a longing for the air and for flight - and Fire, a draw towards heat and flame which has been well-known to lead to disaster.

Beyond the longing for the elemend one is bound to, one's alignment also tends to offer resistance to one's element - Earth, for example, tends to make a selkie far more resilient against blunt force than other members of its species and offer a strong resistance to the psychological impact of darkness and claustrophobia, and Water selkies are often heavily resistant to both water pressure and any form of drowning.

With most forms of selkie, a strong presence of their aligned element will also tend to make them a bit more difficult to harm - while not offering an offensive advantage, a seal in water tends to simply be harder to hit, a bird in the air will find more ways to dodge you in the air than you knew existed, and trying to chase a weasel into a set of tunnels will have it finding more exits than you ever knew existed.

The final thing that an element affects generally isn't evident until a selkie dies. Upon a selkie's death, the bug body will generally decompose into its associated element within less than a day - though the dead sealskin will remain, the resultant body is rarely stable enough to be formally recognized as a body if you don't know precisely what to look for. Though the exact material varies, it is always tied to their core element - seafoam, lake water, and pond scum have all been recorded from pinnipeds of various forms, cinder and ash is common from Fire, Earth has been known to crumble to sand and leave bug-shaped stone formations in equal part, and Air has the disquieting tendancy to not leave any sign of a body at all.

Though there have been a multitude of rumors and myths suggesting that some selkies may gain the ability to fully control and manipulate their element, when sufficiently attuned to it, there is no concrete evidence to suggest it - historically, all signs have pointed to this being folklore, not fact. Primarily, this seems to stem from a quirk of selkie psychology - something similar to the call of the void. 

Occasionally, particularly when near the ends of their lives (either by old age or should they have the time to feel it after being dealt a mortal wound), selkies are known to seek out any font of their element that they can. Though poorly researched, there are enough anecdotes to construct an idea of the phenomenon. Selkies affected by this will commonly claim that the thing they're seeking out is "calling to them" - an intensification of the pull that element normally has on a given selkie, and an urge to follow it deeper - the bottom of the ocean, the centre of the earth, the very highest part of the sky, the burning heart of a flame.

Should they listen, and follow the call, they rarely come back - losing themselves to the pull of their own essence's wish to join with the greater body of its element. Unlike other methods of death, this does not generally leave a pelt behind, as most selkies will want to bring their skin with them to seek out whatever lies at the other end of this call, and thus the pelt will also be recombined into the core of whatever force of nature they've gone to seek.

Not to make another very specific petty rant that is only based off of random interactions I had months ago and my mind suddenly reminded me of but I remembered one time someone said mecha is a more male centric genre in context of me criticizing how some shows portray females and I fear for how many people agree on that when it’s STUPID. Would you consider TMA magical realism? Because I kind of would at first but the last season is very different.

I definitely would consider it magical realism, because at its core it is still set in a world much like the real world, with magical elements. The question of season 5 is a complex one, but my question is; are they still in the same world?

Magical realism needs to be set in a predominantly realistic world. Stories with trolls, fairies, or other mystical species are not magical realism because the world itself is not realistic. So do the avatars becoming a predominant "species" make the world unrealistic? And does doing so put them in an entirely new world, despite physically being in the same place.

Personally, I would call the series on a whole magical realism. I would, however, argue that season 5 is no longer magical realism because the setting has changed to a non-realistic world.

Random Jason Hijinks I either wish would happen someday or find amusing to think about.

Rose and Jason break Eddie out of hell and steal his soul back from Neron. Jaime is dragged along by Rose because he and Eddie were “friends a few reboots ago”. Jason asked Roy who sent him Connor who is suffering™.

Pre-Red Hood Jason and Pre-Green Arrow Connor first meet up back when Jason was part of the All-Caste hunting a demon. It’s a one-shot adventure and the things you have to know are:  

a) this is before Jason’s growth spurt so he’s over a head shorter than Connor.

b) Connor isn’t a cape so excuse him for not understanding demons and fucking up hilariously a few times.

c) When Jason tries to kill the demon who is possessing the human, he and Connor fight about it. The fight ends when the demon explodes out of the person like the Pus of Man from Dark Souls 3.

d) Talia is the one who finds and picks up Jason from the adventure (Connor thinks she’s his mom and Jason just didn’t inherit the melanin) and is also the one who gives Connor contact information for Jason because she wants him to have some sort of friend.

Jason decides to actually dust off his mystic training when Dick walks in and Jason gets hit with so many bad vibes he’s genuinely worried something is wrong with Dick.

It ends with bringing Danny Chase back to life and the only person remotely happy about it is Jason and even that’s a stretch.

Turns out Jason created it for him years ago and Roy’s actually under W.E.  employed as an independent contractor and he’s been making 6 figures for years because Jason never bothered telling anyone that he still owns Wayne R&D.

Jason slowly but surely claims Park Row and the surrounding areas as his territory. It has the unforeseen consequence of magical folk moving into the neighborhood because Gotham is a nightmare to live in normally, Magic Gotham is even worse and the only people who can survive are big hitters like Blood, Zatanna, and Ivy or small fries like the kitchen witch near Leslie’s. Welcome to the big leagues, Jason.

Jason keeps getting mistaken for Jason Blood and it is annoying. One day some demon hunters threw something at Jason and did anyone know Jason used to be in heaven because he sure didn’t and these angel wings are a fucking nightmare.

Rose busts a gut laughing because she somehow became friends with the least demon-y demon Eddie and Jason as an angel.

Jason, Ivy, Sideways, and Impulse (Impulse voice: “Why am I even here?”) vs the Madness Wavelength in Arkham.

Jason kills Joker and finds out that he cannot. Not as in “He doesn’t die” or “There will be a new one” but a secret third option, “The universe literally resets the day every time he’s killed.” Instead of being a tragedy, it becomes a comedy as killing Joker slowly becomes Jason’s go-to when shit goes wrong/killing him is good stress relief. Stephanie discovers what happens because she’s had to write the same essay nine times once. Instead of being horrified they (and then Helena, Tim, Duke, etc.) make killing Joker a gag. The only ones not allowed to kill the Joker are Dick and Bruce because then the universe decides it’s the bad timeline instead of just resetting again.

Tim: *drops his latte on a hot guy and then embarrasses himself in public trying to apologize and becomes a meme.*

Tim: I guess I have to kill Joker now.

Jason and Kory remeeting and wow it’s really awkward that we only got close because of a universe meddler and then you dipped and never contacted me again even though I was a hundred percent serious that you were one of my first friends and are very important to me.

Oh no. Not the talking. Not communication! Kory take mercy on me and just drop me like a bad memory don’t have us open a dialogue where we reconcile all of the bullshit that happened to us and the fact that we did genuinely get close at very low points in our lives and be willing to try and be friends again!
