let's do some hybrid crumbs because i miss my animal harem:

ayato 🦈

while ayato's lounging around the house, ayato has a bluish-grey tint to his skin with scales covering some parts, often at the end of his limbs, his temples, and his neck. he's got rows of small yet sharp teeth and a long scaly tail coming out from just the end of his spine.

ayato has been living at the mansion even before the mansion was built. minding his business... chilling in the lake, till some construction workers ruined it for him. he would've honestly ripped them all to shreds if it weren't for the fact that he saw cute lil you peeking out from behind your father's back

he shares the lake with most of the water-based animals, although he has a territorial feud with neuvillette. he knows it's a losing battle for him though, so ever since the water dragon moved in he's been hanging out at the mansion more often

if there's the unofficial security team (glorified stalkers) then there's the sortaaa official education team. your dad commissioned zhongli to take care of your homeschooling and prepare you for your debut in society. zhongli has appointed ayato to brush youu up on etiquette

as with all the other tail-having animals in the mansion, he also likes to wrap his tail around your legs. but while their furry tails evoke a sense of comfort and warmth within you, his sandpaper-like tail makes chills run up your spine.

to make matters worse, he likes scaring you with his spiky teeth. they might be small, but they're numerous, and the teasing glint in his eyes make you second guessing what he might do. he often likes to nip playful little bites along your skin while you're cuddled on his lap. if you squirm too much and distract him from his work, he bites you as a warning. he often gets scolded by thoma as the dog hybrid patches up your wound.

kinda has a bad rep in your house. he doesn't show his face often, and when he does he likes to pull small pranks that he doesn't even bother owing up to.

heizou 🦉

around your house, heizou's hybrid form has two puffy reddish-brown wings protruding from his back and feathery talon-legs. in the dark, you can often spot him thanks to his round, glowing eyes.

there's a village on the foot of the hill where your mansion resides, and heizou is pretty famous around there. there's no thrilling mystery there, but he likes to help out people find their missing pets and whatnot.

when your managerial team (neuvi, zhongli, ayato) needs to sleuth something out (get dirt on your rivals <- usually ayato, try to protect you from possible danger <- neuvi & zhongli, get the upperhand <- ayato again), they often go to heizou. he often takes the commission with glee (moreso if ayato commissions it)

enjoys his position on your shoulder, though he has to fight most of the avian hybrids for it. he makes these pleasant hoot noises whenever you scratch his head juuust right. when he's feeling a bit mischievous, he will suddenly pop into his human form so he can squish you under his weight

makes these hoot noises in between his words, has a slightly higher pitch when pronouncing 'oo' sounds. he doesn't quite care much about this habit when he's in the mansion, but in more human company he finds himself slipping a bit and gets embarrassed about it.

doesn't really care much for preening his feathers, but the other avians pester him about it so it still gets preened. he thinks he can do more useful stuff than just sitting in a circle with the other avians and preening each other's feathers.

a bit flirty with almost everyone and anyone under the sun. he doesn't fail to throw flirty remarks towards the other hybrids just to mess with them, but he gets a bolder when it's with you. no matter your personality, you've still got a bit of naivete thanks to your sheltered upbringing, and he likes to take advantage of it.

Hi I feel like you always have the best batfam fic recs, so I was wondering if you have any recs for any Dick and Tim bonding fics (especially fics that deal with the fallout of Dick giving Robin to Dami)?

hi! so glad you like the recs, i'm always happy to give them 🥰 every time a friend expresses even a passing interest in one of my fav characters i have to stop myself from like, creating a fic rec spreadsheet on the spot.

that said, i got stumped by the second part of this one. i was like oh yes definitely, i totally have read fics for that, and then…could not dig any up from my brain or my bookmarks. i feel like there's a fic on the tip of my tongue, but in the meanwhile, if anyone has any tim & dick red robin reconciliation recs (holy tongue twister, batman) i too would love to see them!

set early in tim’s tenure as robin; dick realizes tim is about to be alone on christmas, and they end up spending the holiday together. i love how tentative both dick and tim are about this for different (and at times similar) reasons, and how heartwarming and cozy it ends up being. lots of reflection on family in all its forms and a really good tim & dick dynamic.

🚗 I’d Fly Far Away From Here by Sohotthateveryonedied

in a somewhat similar vein, a oneshot set during tim’s robin era in which tim hitchhikes to blüdhaven after a fight with his dad. dick and tim are two people who technically aren’t brothers yet by law but already are at heart, which doesn’t make it any easier to navigate conversations about tim’s home life or either of their relationship with bruce. (they make it work, though.)

🩹 Not So Large But Definitely In Charge by dottie_dc

tim and dick get tossed into an alternate gotham where there’s no batman or justice league, but find their way to bruce and alfred anyway. this has great tim-under-pressure pov, and the amount that he and dick care about each other even through their arguments is palpable. there’s also a fantastic (and at times gut-wrenching) sequel by JackHawksmoor focusing more on dick & the bruce of this different world. (cw for: past major character death aka alternate universe dick grayson)

🤖 Very Pleasing to My Optical Sensors by waffleelrond

another early robin!tim fic, in which tim gets injured and dick steps in to translate bruce's bruceness about it. it's tentative and sweet and a little silly, and a great bite-sized fic to read when you want to see the two of them just starting out as brothers.

🌌 To an Athlete Dying Young series by SonoSvegliato

at a glance from the summaries this appears like a tim & jason + tim & bruce series (and it is!), but the tim & dick scenes land it on this list for sure. i'm a broken record here with the early-robin!tim & dick recs but man i love them here; in the second fic there's a sequence where dick is teaching tim how to grapple across rooftops that sticks in my mind as one of my top favorite bonding moments for them. (heads up that the series currently ends on a cliffhanger—it's not finished yet!)

🦉 the once and future robin by AstraEllis

and as proof that i can in fact rec something other than early-robin!tim, here's an au where instead of becoming batman's robin tim ends up adopting a talon!dick grayson from another universe as his older brother. and becoming his robin. and then finding his way to the batfamily. i'm fascinated by the tim and alternate-universe-talon!dick relationship in this, and the questions of identity/personhood that it tackles by virtue of the story it is telling. plus, talon!dick's connection to robin as a concept despite the alternate universe aspect is really sweet.

Cailleach Bheur ❄️: Fennel tea. Blizzard air. A lit cabin hearth while the storm rages outside. An heirloom quilt over my shoulders. Quiet. Contemplative. Resolutely austere. She knows all the answers, but she will have her silence. Burning coals. Shepherd's pie. Baked nuts. Glowing silver.

🦉 The Court of Owls is the best modern Batman villain and I will die on this hill.

Just think about how much potential it has! The Owls are the Gotham elite, you know who else is the Gotham elite??? BRUCE.

Imagine a Court of Owls storyline where Bruce (not Batman) needs to step in to take them down. He needs to consider his own ties to the Owls, he might have sone friends that are part of it, he might have people he trusts be part of it. Bruce never fights as himself, he hides behind the cowl, but this time he would have a type of access that Batman could never get.

Just think of the stories we could get!!!

Imagine all of the ways the other Bats could fit in it!

Cass and Damian (and Jason) would look at the talons and be brought back to their time as assassins.

Tim could find himself in a similar position as Bruce, being a drake he risks finding people he knows within the owls. I MEAN, HE COULD FIND OUT HIS PARENTS WERE HOWLS!!

Jason and Steph, who grew up in Crime Alley, the type of kids that the Owls see as canon fodder would bring that anger with them in the fight. (It would also be interesting if the Owls took crime alley kids to train as Talons, making Jay and Steph think about how their lives might have been different if the hadn’t managed to get out of there).

Jason. Just, Jason dealing with everything the Owls represent…

Hello! Welcome to the Video Game Birds Tournament!

We'll be having a face off for all the cool and neat bird characters from assorted video games!

Here are some rules for submissions

What makes a Bird?

The character has to have a Beak (or beak like features) and Wings. Feathers and Talons aren't necessary, as long as its obvious the character is bird-like.

Chozos from Metroid don't have wings but do have a Beak and Feathers and their naming character have a bird in it. Samus, even though raised by them, is not a bird.

Fire Emblem's bird laguz will count. They only have wings when human but are an entire bird in their beast form. Yune from Radiant Dawn can count as she had taken form of a bird for a good portion of the game.

Not ALL Flying Type Pokemon are BIRDS! I will take Tornadus in Therian Forme but not Incarnete Form!

Comes from a Video Game!

The source material is a video game! So played on any console, PC, mobile game etc. I will not take Video Game adaptations of other media like a game of an anime.

Nocturne Redesign Discussion🌑

Nocturne’s design is one of the most interesting and most memorable designs in DP especially with the night theme. I wanted to give that off and ramp up the eldritch horror and night theme more. I want my Nocturne to feel like the a true nightmare, like a video game eldritch monster that could jump scare right into the screen at any time. Went for an owl theme as they’re nocturnal creatures(the goat vibe was cool and could work like lamb leading sheep to slaughter or an Astrology Aries theme but I decided to go for an owl as they’re a popular creature of the night, while goats are more active during the day), Went for a mix of the Horned owl and also Barn Owl cause those guys are scary as heck. I wanted to give it a skull-like look. I will not lie, Helluva Boss def gave me inspo and I feel like whenever I make an owl character, my brain will 99% go back there🦉🦉🦉

Warning spoilers and creepy owl stuff.

Switched his red eyes for black ones with small white pupil for fear factor. I wanted to give off staring into the black void.

Replaced his purple lips with a black tipped beak. Also has wider mouth ending in a little spiral with a sharp point in the middle for fear factor.

OG Color Scheme- Black, white, gray, purple, blue for shading, light purple and red

My Color Scheme- Black, White, dark purple and gray.

Replaced his horns with curled tips for a horned owl vibe.

Gave his body sharper edges to look more feather like and come off more intimidating.

Made his arms bigger to give off wings.

Gave him purple outlines to stand from his body.

Gave him white talon like hands. Even added lines on his fingers.

Gave him purple circles around his eyes

Made his scar black and shaped like a moon crescent for a night feel and make it strike out more.

His spirals are downwards rather than upwards but can go up if he desired so. Wanted to make it feel more bird body like.

Added some purple in his cosmic Star body.

I know a few people already mentioned Dick hallucinating Jason visually but imagine Dick hallucinating Jason via sound. Like, he doesn't see him, but he can hear him calling and chirping for him. Dick would be so distraught and upset that he can hear him but can't find where the chirping is coming from. I'd also imagine it would be a specific type of chirp that Jason would only use when he's in trouble and in need of rescuing.

Yesss!!!!

So I think I mentioned this once before, but the chirping and hooting sounds Dick and Jason (and also Bruce now, to an extent) make aren’t an actual language. It’s more of a guesswork thing. There are some sounds Dick only makes when he’s calling to Jason, so Jason knows it’s a kind of “look at me/pay attention” kind of thing. Likewise, Jason only makes his “baby cheeps” when he’s with Dick and is feeling happy/content.

There are hundreds of personalized calls between them now. Many of which Dick taught Jason, and some that they’ve come up with together while surviving on the streets. But basically most calls would “translate” to certain catch phrases, greetings or supplications. And for Jason, using “owl speech” is sometimes easier than using human words when communicating his emotions. In those instances, Dick is the one who has to translate for him if they’re taking to Bruce or Alfred lol.

Ok, getting side tracked again.

So basically you’d be absolutely right to assume there’s a bird call only Jason makes that’s meant to alert Dick 1. To his location, and 2. that he’s in danger/scared/hurt.

I’d imagine that, immediately after his death, Dick would hear these calls absolutely everywhere and frantically search for Jason, long after he remembers that his owlet is dead. Similarly to how humans sometimes think they heard a familiar voice calling their name or something. Very heartbreaking in a context where that person is dead. 😔🦉 🥀

Xisuma and Grian are known as the parents of hermitcraft, Xisuma of course taking the role of a responsible dad and Grian taking the role of a “funny, carefree” dad!

Many people do wonder occasionally how they met, and they’d be .. less happy to tell them!

They met when Watchers and Voidwalkers were at war, Xisuma being in command and being one of the most feared generals out there, his strategy lead voidwalkers to victory, he was unstoppable.

Until

A watcher by the name of Xelqua stepped in, he was as fast as a lightning, you could hear him approach only after he’d flown to cut your throat.

Xisuma was prepared for anything but that, a watcher quite literally as fast as lightning? Xisuma shuddered, warning all his men of this watcher.

It didnt take long for Grian to locate Xisuma, flying out from the purple-mist like clouds amd dragging xisuma to lower ground with his talons.

The after sound, a terrifying one played when Grian was looking menacingly at him.

Perhaps.. Xisuma was scared? No , no really! Just really, really in love, and maybe turned on as well!

Now both of them will do anything to protect hermitcraft, their children, their land, their home.

It also helps that theyre both immortal, so hehe happy couple <33
