Well it’s not even a full week into April and I’ve read 124 books so far this year. I honestly don’t know what happened. Last year I read 119 books in total. I do believe that it’s a mixture of shitty mental health and reaching a point where I preferred to read instead of watching things or playing video games though.
Anyways, here’s some stats and the progress on my book goals I have for this year.
P.s. I’m not trying to say you need to read a lot or that I’m better because I’ve read so much I’m just sharing what I’ve read. I highly doubt I’ll ever read as much as I will this year in the future.
Books hauled so far this year and percentage read of hauled books: 33 (9.091%)
Number of books read this year that I own vs borrowed: 31 vs 93
Number of pages read so far: 36,762
Number of books read for each month: 41, 42, 32
Percentage of my physical books read: 18%
Number of physical books owned: 516
Number of books donated to a little free library and the number that is ready to leave: 6 and 5
My favourite books for each month:
January- Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross, Eragon by Christopher Paolini, Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
February- A Little Bit Country by Brian D. Kennedy, The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston, Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter
March- Once Upon A K-Prom by Kat Cho, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
My less favourite/ most disappointing reads for each month:
January- The Ruins by Scott Smith, Heartstopper volume 5 by Alice Oseman
February- Waverider by Kazu Kibuishi, Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross, The House is on Fire by Rachel Beanland
March- The Wager by David Grann, All of us Villains by Amanda Foody and C.L. Herman, The Death Cure by James Dashner, King of Immortal Tithe by Ben Alderson
Reading goals:
4/5 classics read
6/5 nonfiction read
9/12 romances read
0/12 paperbacks from hell read
0/12 point horror books read
9.091%/50% of books hauled in 2024 read
13/5 YouTuber favourites read
3/12 dragon books read
22/24 sci-fi books read
92/100 owned books read (this is going to drop by 4 soon)
Bonus goals:
0/2 memoirs read
3/3 true crime books reads
4/3 soft DNF’s read
0/5 literary fiction read

I have a feeling this is going to be the year of Nonfiction books for me. I have been defining recent years by things that I obsessively get into in that year.
Last year was the year of Bad Omens and Taylor Swift.
2022 was the year of Ghost and Stranger Things
2021 Far Cry 5 heavy, I watched Zoo for the first time and Sharks
2020 was the year I got back into reading
Anyways, I went into this year wanting to push myself out of my comfort zone and one of those pushes was to read 5 nonfiction books. I’m currently reading my 4th nonfiction book which is The Wager by David Grann and I’m finding myself to become more drawn to nonfiction than fiction at times.

February Reading Wrap-Up
Tumblr media
Best Books: A Little Bit Country by Brian D. Kennedy, The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston, Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter
Most Disappointing: Waverider by Kazu Kibuishi, The House Is On Fire by Rachel Beanland, Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross
# of books read: 42
Top genre of the month: Fantasy
Reading goals that I’ve accomplished/ made progress in:
•3/5 nonfiction books read
•4/12 romance books read
•12/5 YouTuber favourites read
•2/12 dragon books read
•14/24 sci-fi books read
•77/489 of my physical books read
I was not expecting to read as many books as I did last month. I thought I’d read maybe 30 books not beating my past record of 41 books in two days shorter.
Ruthless Vows and Waverider were such disappointments to me more so Ruthless Vows. I would re-read and buy a copy of Waverider but I’m going to pretend that Divine Rivals is a standalone.
Anyways, I’m going to slow down on reading probably. Idk tbh I’ll probably continue to read everyday until I’m done for the day. I’m surprisingly not needing a break from reading yet.

One day, I will have a home library with at least one secret room, a rolling ladder, the coziest reading nook, a gentle ghost librarian perhaps, and all my favorite classics in vintage leather bound.

January Wrap-Up
I’ve never been someone who believed that I could possibly end up preferring to read than watch a tv show/ movie or YouTube video. But, that’s something that came true in January.
I ended up reading 41 books, 11 of them I physically own, I dnf’ed 4 and 4 of them were re-reads.
Discovered some new favourites:
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates
Part of me wants to up my reading goal as it’s currently 50 books but I’m planning to be a lot more busy next month onwards so I won’t but damn I wasn’t expecting to read so much. I mean I started January out wanting to see if I could beat my now second highest month of books read which was 29 but I was expecting a max of 31.

🪐Two boys, alone in space. Sworn enemies sent on the same rescue mission.
Ambrose wakes up on the Coordinated Endeavor with no memory of a launch. There’s more that doesn’t add up: evidence indicates strangers have been on board, the ship’s operating system is voiced by his mother, and his handsome, brooding shipmate has barricaded himself away. But nothing will stop Ambrose from making his mission succeed—not when he’s rescuing his own sister.
In order to survive the ship’s secrets, Ambrose and Kodiak will need to work together and learn to trust each other . . . especially once they discover what they are truly up against. Love might be the only way to survive.
🧡This was an absolute shock for me. I expected to like this book but damn that twist. I came into this book with the idea that this was a half romance half sci-fi. But, I would personally describe this as a sci-fi thriller with a queer romance. This is a YA with what I would describe as a blend of hinted at sex scenes and fade to black. This is what I would consider a medium tier sci-fi aka can be somewhat challenging for some people but the world building isn’t a lot.
🔪The romance was good but at the same time the ending part of the romance wasn’t it for me. I needed more than what we received. To be honest even though the romance was good I would of preferred it to not be so physical based. My only other criticism that I can remember is that I wish we had seen a bit more of untrustworthy behaviour or an outburst towards something after we were showed a certain scene that was recorded.

Other books I’ve read recently:
Choujin X volumes 1 & 2- I couldn’t get into Tokyo Ghoul but this series got me. 4 Stars for volume 1. 4.5 Stars for volume 2.
Inuyasha VizBig volume 1- I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to start reading the manga. This was the first anime I ever watched and I just adore this series so much. 5 Stars.

I haven't abandoned this story. I just put it on the back burner for now. The story is just on a small vacation. It is currently out of office. It can't come to the phone right now. It just fell under my bed to sleep with the monsters. It never left my head. It is everywhere - except on paper.
