And the Winners Are ...
And the Winners Are …
In the past month or so, Jaded, book one in the Mended Hearts series, has received two awards. Woohoo! First, at the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference, Jaded won a Selah Award in the First Novel category; and among bloggers, my book baby was chosen to win an INSPY Award for “excellence in faith-driven literature.” I am humbled, honored, and more than a little stunned. I owe an…

A Letter to My Best Friend Who Hurt Me
A Letter to My Best Friend Who Hurt Me
I’m sorry things have been awkward between us. There’s an enormous elephant in the room, and we both know why, but you already said you were sorry, and now there’s nothing left but for me to forgive you. Believe me, I’m trying.
It helps that you apologized, but even if you hadn’t, I would still forgive. It would be harder, but I think I could do it. Lately I’ve had trouble because random things…

10 Ways to Kick DEPRESSION in the Bum
10 Ways to Kick DEPRESSION in the Bum
Tumblr media
I suffer from depression, and it ain’t purty. There have been times in my life when my mood swung so low as to be downright dangerous (post partum, marital troubles, financial strain), but normally my struggle is light. Translation: I’m short-tempered, irritable, and super negative. However, I’ve learned a few tricks that help me overcome my dark moodiness. Consciously control your thoughts. I…

Forgiveness ... and other F-words
Forgiveness … and other F-words
Once when my youngest son was four or five, he came to me, clearly distraught and somewhat scandalized, and he said, “Momma, Ben said the F-word.”
Well, then I was scandalized too, because I knew Ben, I knew Ben’s parents, and I knew colorful vocabulary wasn’t tolerated in their household any more than it was tolerated in mine. And then I cringed, trying to decide if I would have to approach…

Getting Jilted Was Never So Much Fun!
Getting Jilted Was Never So Much Fun!
I can’t say I’ve ever been jilted, per se. At least not jilted at the altar which is how the word is used 99% of the time, but even though I’ve never experienced it, I can imagine it’s not much fun. My character, Lynda Turner, was jilted in the sense that she was abandoned … more than once … and it wreaked havoc on her emotional well-being for over fifteen years.
HOWEVER, getting Jilted on the…

I suffer from the emotional crazies.
If you’ve followed this blog for long, you’ve probably noticed I’m a bit of a pessimist … and I struggle with self-esteem issues … and I’m easily overwhelmed … and depression hovers above my head 24/7, just waiting to settle into my brain like dense fog.
But enough already. I’m fine, just fine, getting better all the time, thanks in part, to a fewamazing self…

7 Marriage Books Worth Reading Twice
7 Marriage Books Worth Reading Twice
Tumblr media
Over the years, I’ve read quite a few books on marriage, always looking for the one book that will make ALL THE DIFFERENCE. I haven’t found it yet (at least not in any form other than the Bible), but if I were to pick my faves, this list would be them. Some of these I’ve read twice, some I refer to whenever I get in a crunch, and some I ought need to re-read weekly just for the gentle reminders.

Five Reasons To Stick With Your Marriage
Five Reasons To Stick With Your Marriage
Whoever says “marriage is hard” is grossly understating the situation. Not only is marriage tons of work, it’s also painful. But it’s worth it.
Fortunately, my husband and I haven’t had to battle the really difficultissues. In fact, if you don’t count job loss, depression, massive debt, five children, church issues, emotional addictions, and health concerns … then our marriage has been a walk in…

Insecurity Can Be Tempting!
Insecurity Can Be Tempting!
Tumblr media
This post first appeared over at FaithHappenings.com. School was my first experience out from under the shelter of my mother’s wings. Since I was a mommy’s girl, it took me a while to recover from separation anxiety, and even longer to fit-in with the other first graders. But soon, I realized that when I completed an assignment, my teacher was pleased, thereby recreating the sense of safety I…
