Chapter 6: What You're Looking For Has Been Here

At thirty-three years old, Lily Evans fears she may not quite have lived up to her potential. Single and living alone – if one does not consider her cat a flatmate, that is – her days are blurs of monotony, most of her students getting more action than she has seen in the past decade. (Hyperbole gratuitously applied.) Insert James Potter – former classmate and unrequited crush – who appears to be on a mission – aside from promoting his fourth novel – to point out all of her flaws, while strutting the hallways of their former secondary, the place she has never left and he will forever haunt now that the board has decided to name the school library in his honour. (F*ck her life.)

“You have to listen to me —”

“Miss, the mediwizards are right this way—”

“No — I’m fine. I don’t need a mediwizard, I need someone to listen to me!”

Lily pushed frantically through the chaos of the ruined street, trying to find some authority figure who wasn’t completely useless. The air was acrid with smoke — plumes of it choked the village as columns of Fiendfyre still raged on — and though the dueling had ceased and the Death Eaters had vanished, still all was a bustle of frantic, terrified activity as the Ministry officials who had apparated in at last to quell the fighting and flames now attempted to regain a modicum of control over the situation. Wounded students and civilians were herded in a daze towards white tents for medical treatment. Friends separated by the fray reunited with tears and shouts.

Lily didn’t know where any of her friends were. She was desperate to find them — but first, she needed to get help, and no one would listen to her.

Whatever adrenaline or delusion had kept her moving, kept her feet dancing just out of the way of hexes and flames, kept her mind sharp amidst the chaos — it had faded now, and she felt as though waves of weariness had crashed upon her as she stumbled bewildered through the wreckage.

James Potter: Loved it. One scene was a bit… upsetting for her, and was interesting to explain

Violet Bambury:  Oh? 

James Potter:  But she was ok afterwards

Violet Bambury:  Oh good. Was it the plant?

James Potter:  No, not at all. She wasn’t scared one bit by it

Violet Bambury:  Fantastic! So I’m guessing she’s going to support her Uncles Sirius and Remus after all..? ;)

James Potter:  Absolutely! We’ve narrowed it down to the Wednesday or Saturday evenings. Which would be best for you?

Violet Bambury:  Oh? I’m invited?  Joking, of course I’d like to come! Saturday perhaps? Wednesday’s a school night after all ;)

James Potter:  My thoughts exactly, haha! That’s perfect. Pop it in your diary! 

Five minutes later, he had four tickets booked for the final night of Little Shop of Horrors: one each for himself, Marigold, Violet, and Peter, who he’d also agreed to get a ticket for.

HP rants continue:

Severus Snape didn’t love Lily Potter.

At the foundation of love is respect. Snape had none for Lily’s decision to marry James or have Harry. He only cared about saving her life, not about the lives of her family. Do you think she would have thanked him if he’d succeeded?

And then he spent six years verbally abusing the child she died trying to protect.

This is not love. It’s obsession and it shouldn’t be lauded.
