Cannot believe there are people in the year of 2k23 who still defend azzarellos ww run.
Like he was like what if the Amazons lost any theme that was important to them and we had "society of people living away from those who oppressed them at actually just as bad or worse than their oppressors"
Also practically all male supporting cast and rewriting Diana's Backstory to be more about men because girls have cooties
Also the Amazons teased Diana for being made of clay and wouldn't let her play in any Amazon games

Okay this misconception keeps coming across my dash and it drives me nuts because it means people are lumping two very different versions of the DC universe under one disparaging banner. So let me just say this to get it off my chest because I'm this close to shaking somebody:
The New 52 ended seven years ago in 2016.
That started a section of DC's history called "Rebirth" in which they started bringing elements of the pre-Flashpoint continuity back into the timeline. The first changes came in a big burst called Convergence -- which is how Jon Kent effectively manifested fully formed at 10 years old -- while other reintroductions like Kon-El, Bart Allen, Cass Cain, etc. were more gradual.
The original plan, being forced through by King of Bad Decisions Dan Didio, was that after ~4-5 Rebirth would give way to another full reboot known as 5G. I could go into detail about the plans but they're honestly not important to this post because Didio was (thankfully, finally) ousted from his role as publisher early in 2020, along with something like 80% of the higher-level editorial staff. DC had a complete creative turn-over at the start of the pandemic and completely changed directions as a result. The material being developed for 5G was retooled into the hypothetical future event "Future State" to buy the new staff time to pull together their new direction.
That new direction is called INFINITE FRONTIER. It started in 2021 and THAT is the era of DC comics we're in now. Infinite Frontier is an active push to bring back the pre-Flashpoint characters, as well as some pre-Crisis ideas and characters, while also keeping the few elements of the New 52 that people actually liked (like Jason Todd's more heroic characterization) and actively pursuing diversity initiatives both in creative staff and in creations. And outside of the big events, they're making a real effort to keep these comics short and self contained in the hopes that that'll make them more accessible. So it's actually really easy, if you read comics pre-Flashpoint and dropped off, to just pick up a series and go with the flow. Anything confusing is just a Google away.
Please, please don't make the mistake of thinking modern comics are as bad as the New 52 just because some people are butthurt their ship isn't getting canonized. There have been some really good comics made in the last few years that you should totally try! Spirit World, Monkey Prince and the entire We Are Legends line has been genuinely fantastic. The new Birds of Prey is shaping up to be a ton of fun. Dark Knights of Steel is an entertaining Elseworld. Urban Legends and Brave & the Bold have done some really fun things with shorter anthology books. One Minute War was a really fun Flash family event and everything Stargirl's done recently is liable to make you cry.
I'm begging people to give these comics a chance. It's just really sad to see them being dismissed out of hand.

What is your most hated panel/page in comics?
Whether it killed a run or destroyed a characters arc or was just to silly to be the follow-up to a serious matter.
You would think, based on what I usually blog about, that my answer would be something like "the Dick-Tarantula rape sequence" or "Cassandra Cain's first on-page appearance in Beechen's OYL Robin run" or "the entirety of the Dick-Kory-Babs character assassination cheating nonsense in Nightwing Annual #2" or even one of the various panels of Frank Miller's Batman.
It's not. It's these pages from Wonder Woman (2011) #7:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aka, "the pages that turned the Amazons into man-hating killers, rapists, and slave traders, utterly decimated Amazonian lore for a decade, fucked over Diana's own origin lore in a way that is still being unpacked today, and provided a justification for the introduction of two of the most annoying Wonder Woman-affiliated characters in existence (Grail and Jason)."
I hate them. I detest them. These pages are the antithesis of everything the Amazons are and should be written as. And even if they weren't, they unnecessarily complicated Amazonian lore to the point of hilarity and wiped out decades of stories and worldbuilding...all because the men running DC Comics in 2011 wanted to "rebuild" the Wonder Woman franchise to revolve around men and could not concieve of a way to depict a woman-centered island utopia in a way that did not center around the hatred and destruction of men. Disgusting.
This conceptualization of the Amazons never should have made it out of Brian Azzarello's brain, much less onto the page and out of the editorial greenlight stage. It's horrifying and grotesque on multiple levels that it did happen, and I'm hard-pressed to think of a "retcon" I am happier with than when Greg Rucka took one look at this nonsense, went "absolutely not, what the fuck," and promptly wrote a story that said that origin was a set of false memories and was absolutely not true.

One of the worst things to happen to Cassie Sandsmark was when her classic "I'm a 90s teen hero on a budget" look from Young Justice got replace by "blonde Donna Troy" so Geoff Johns could live out his New Teen Titans nostalgia, which led to her being increasingly sexualised culminating in the crime that was the New 52 Teen Titans run:

She's supposed to be 16 here btw. Not at all surprising to discover this run was written by a confessed sexual harasser.

on my knees crying begging comic writers to not age down characters who's motivations are directly inspired by the time period they grew up in. i think coming up with a canon friendly reason why they're still alive/active is far less jarring than interchanging historical circumstances or pushing their birth date decades in advance
