In world where there are two types of tower-dwellers, a Princess is locked in a tower.
There are two types of tower-people: A Princess, put there to remain pure until marriage or until rescued, and a Wizard, put there by choice to study and learn in isolation. Princesses are defined by their beautiful long hair, and Wizards are defined by their beards and impressive 'stache.
There is a Princess, and she lives in a tower. She was put there recently by her mother and father, to keep her pure and untouched until they can secure the marriage to another kingdom and a prince shes doesn't love. She has long, almost brown sandy-blonde hair, pale green eyes and a slim, tender build. She is not the fairest in the land, but she is tall and pretty. If compared to a rose, she would be the humble yet graceful willow tree, slender and long. She has wanted to be a wizard since a young age, but there is no way for a princess to become a wizard. Princesses are delicate girls to be protected and sold off until their either dead or Queens or have found True Love, unsuited to the life of experimentation and study of a wizard. That is what her mother tells her, in a quiet scolding that is far more forceful and cruel then it has any right to be. And the princess, terrified, believes her.
She used to run the castle halls, stick in hand, robe fashioned out of a delicate silk bedsheet, shouting fake spells at birds while her servants chased her. But as she grew older, her restraints became tighter, and more and more often, she was confined in her room to embroider in solitude with barely the comfort of a window or a maid. The life she is forced into makes her hang her head low, makes her hands be paper-soft, and demands her hair be long and beautiful and perfect like all other princesses. The world she longed to be a part of was a world of study and experimentation, and as the kingdoms princess and tool, she could not even dare to hint at her desires into adulthood. She could become a witch, she knew, flee the castle barefoot and sink into the loving embrace of the swamp. But witches don’t live in towers, and they make potions instead of spells, and they don’t grow the flowing whimsical beards that wizards do.
But that does not mean she has to be bored in her tower. Fascinated by magic as she always has been, she arranges with a long string of bribes for books on spells and forbidden potions to be smuggled along with her meals. She studies them while the clock ticks down for either a prince to arrive or her marriage to be finalized. Either one will doom her, and she wants to enjoy herself as much as possible until her marriage. She pours over the books long into the night by candlelight, and all day, she rests her pale, tired eyes. She experiments, and she reads, and she studies non-stop, barely stopping for meals and littering her books with an assortment of food stains. She cuts off her hair to use in bubbling gold potions, her skin becomes scarred with a rainbow of the consequences of failed experiments, and her dresses turn into makeshift cheesecloths and fire-fuel. She washes late into the night after she is done with her work for the day in the darkness, not glancing into the mirror that has become cracked and dusty. When her eyesight starts to fail from strain and working in darkness, she fashions for herself bottle-round glasses, blown by herself in the depths of her tower. Engrossed as she is in her studies, she does not notice the tower warp, and the meals stop rotting, and how she started out in one circular room but now has a loft and a second floor and the fact that the tower seems much much taller then it was originally.
What she DOES notice though, is when brushing crumbs from her face she feels facial hair on her upper lip.
She rushes to the bathroom and thrusts a candle into the holder as she looks at herself. In the dusty mirror, she sees the beginnings of a bushy mustache sit on her upper lip, much further along in growth then be logically possible without her noticing. It’s a pale blonde, like her hair, and she notices faintly that there are streaks of grey in it, a very familiar shade of classic wizard grey. She brings a trembling hand to her upper lip.
Much, much later, a prince rides up to the tower. It is tall, and warped, and very clearly belonging to a wizard, despite the royal family claiming their daughter lives here.
He shouts up, a bit nervous because of the thorny vines wrapping the beautiful stonework.
“Hey! Does a Princess live here?”
A young man with large bottle glasses and a rather impressive mustache leans out of the tower, his short, sandy-blonde hair spilling lightly in the wind. He starts to say something, then glances back into his house. A smile breaks out on his face as he seems to realize something.
“No!” He shouts back, after a moments hesitation. “But a wizard does!”

Essek Thelyss’ Estate - TTRPG Maps by Chekhov
Design and concept belongs to Matthew Mercer and Critical Role
Essek’s Estate has come up in the show, but has never actually been seen except in theatre of mind. I’ve created maps based on Matt’s descriptions and my own interpretations - with a bit of flair!
Feel free to download and use them for non-commercial games! Our group of friends got together and made a party consisting entirely of Essek Thelyss’ staff, who then had to survive the horrors of.... working for the legendary Shadowhand! 👀 It can’t be THAT hard, right? Just a bit of political intrigue....
(Maybe I’ll write up the adventure and publish it someday....)
These maps are free to use for your home games, but may not be distributed for commercial purposes except by the Critical Role company who own the concept.

A wizard that enlarged a Lego set to make their wizard tower. It’s pretty convenient, highly modular, easy to add on new features, and comes with some with fun plastic goblets. An annoying aspect though is that someone pried up one of the flat topped pieces in the floor of his alchemy room, so a stud is poking out as an easy point to trip on.

Finally! After over a month of waiting, I’ve finally found the time to finish my tower and reveal it to you all!!
Here’s what it looks like: (sorry if my art is bad)
Tumblr media
(Note: image is not to scale)
(Note: I am visible at the base of my tower in this image)
My tower is a cat tree! The tower is many stories tall and the parts of the tower are scaled up to accommodate medium humanoid beings at the same scale as a normal cat to a cat tree.
Getting up it without being able to parkour or being a master of teleportation is a big challenge. Most of the lower levels are easily accessible, however.
A fair warning; my tower has non-Euclidean geometry as certain rooms are bigger on the inside and may lead to rooms that were not previously there, rooms and platforms may move around when you aren’t looking, and you may be randomly transported to a different part of the tower without noticing.
Don’t expect to be getting anywhere important with that teleporting, however. You will not be brought anywhere that isn’t very different than your current position on the tower, and the upper levels are completely inaccessible via this method. Actually, when you’re climbing the upper levels, you may be teleported lower on the tower.
In the fields below it, I grow various herbs, potion ingredients, drugs, and other plants! Like catnip and weed! I do most of my alchemy on the first floor and the dungeon underneath.
The entire thing is covered in comfortable fluffy cat-tree cloth and I’ve enchanted the area to always be clear skies, and warm and sunny during the day and perfectly cool in the evening.
The sunsets here are absolutely stunning.
The front entrance is obviously locked and only I have the key, so please just knock on the metal knocker to the right of the door; it’s enchanted to allow me to hear it if I’m there. If I’m not there, it will alert you that I’m away and I do ask you to politely leave if I am not home. Unless I have invited you, then I will allow it to open for you beforehand.
The tower has been warded with a tall field of force that fits around the tower’s dimensions, so don’t expect to be flying in.
I’m always welcome for visitors, so feel free to visit whenever I’m around.
Only I can properly navigate the tower, unless I give someone access, which I may or may not do, depending on the circumstances.
The tower gets quite windy, but it’s never enough to affect you because of the enchanted weather. The wind is always a warm breeze.
My tower is situated to the northeast side of wizard island island, along the cliff side coast, just southeast of the gray wizard council local.
Tumblr media
From my tower, I can see most of wizard island, however a small portion of the island is blocked by the volcano. (Ex. I can’t see the Pirate Cove, Necrobotanist’s Tower, Ari’s Cafe, and Breakfast Wizard’s Diner and Cafe)
Tumblr media
Thanks for waiting patiently! Hope to see y’all around!

Dear Magisowo, id like some legal advice if you have any.
I’m a wizard and have recently acquired and renovated my home into a proper wizard tower. However problem is I’ve been getting harrased by the local HOA, them complaining that my tower is an “eyesore” and “disturbing” their neighborhoods image. My tower was built perfectly legally, I’ve got all the proper building permits and followed all local county tower laws. That still isn’t enough for them as they’ve sent countless “inspectors” who’ve found nothing, and have been sending threats of legal action. Is there any way to get them to stop and do their threats actually hold weight?
Tumblr media
Good morning!
That sounds like a horrid situation and let us assure you: this so-called Homeowner Association hasn't got a leg to stand on. Of course neighbours are always free to band together for purposes of mutual support - like establishing a feral griffin watch or communal herb garden - but legal rights are only granted in the case a HOA of owners that share communal real estate. As is the case with apartment complexes where one buys an apartment instead of renting it.
If your home is a detached building and you obtained the proper planning permission, your tower construction is perfectly legal. I imagine these people are threatening to report your building to the urban aesthetics commission, but if you have your papers in order the municipality will have ran your plans by them already. Besides, wizard towers are protected under the Occult Habitat Provision, as studies have shown they are a requirement for performing certain types of magic and frequently attract endangered magical species.
We advise passing this information on to the individuals that are bothering you, asking them politely to stop, and if need be warn them that you will treat their actions as intentional harassment if they continue. We will send you an example of how to keep a log to build a harassment case, if worst comes to worst.
We absolutely can not recommend contacting the Wizard Orb Assistance Helpline (WOAH) and inquiring after the latest neighbour-repelling wards that they have on file under Occult Commons. That would be irresponsible from a community building perspective and as such we would under no circumstances advise you do such a thing.
All the best,
~ the MagISoWo Team

behold my new ingenious invention!
Since the unfortunate loss of my previous wizard tower (thanks to @the-illegal-wizard-council ) I have had to relocate. In doing so I have come up with an invention that could revolutionise wizard housing! I propose to you, reader, the reverse wizard tower!
So we all know wizard towers, towers, that wizards live in. Well the reverse wizard tower is different. Rather than going up high into the sky, it goes deep down into the ground, and is covered by a small homely looking cabin.
I suppose in other words this could be considered a shack on top of a hole in the ground but for now it must do while I continue to work on my new regular wizard tower.

Guys I need help deciding who to hire as one of the guards in my spire.
Olok the goblin: Says he has an IQ of 500 and wouldn’t stop chewing the table during the interview
Steven: Former Town guard (He only said like, the same three sentences the entire time???)
Pandemica, Queen of Plauge: Pleasant enough women but she had mucus running out of her nose… and eyes… and ears…
Grug the Orc: Good Muscle but he wasn’t too… academically gifted
Shibly Bibbly: He was a tiny thing, gnome or halfling of some kind, he was a good conversationist but I wasn’t too big a fan of him smelling like that damn “Vizard Veed”

Apologies for the lack of wizardposting yesterday.
My tower was attacked by a man named Joe.
He once did this, but long ago.
I don’t know where he came from, and I don’t know where he went.
But I shall keep an eye on that cotton-eyed gent.
