pm dazai time traveling and meeting the ada and them being freaked out by him and him scaring them and thinking theyre all idiots for trusting him and it all being angsty and shit is a very interesting take

but personally, i think if pm dazai ever time traveled to meet the ada, they would, without much thought, say or do something that shows that they genuinely like him and he would probably just pass out because he cant handle genuine positive emotions directed at him (see bsd wan)

Aurora: its the song I decided for the B-side of the vinyl, and I will probably release it digitally one day too. Aurora: I got a little hate from homophobes, and also abelist, and racist comments from people claiming there was nothing wrong with their mindset. I think this is why the making of this song is one of my favourite memories, and also I think that is why it sounds so playful! because it is!! it was like playing a game. and I did also play alot around with symbolics in both the lyrics and the way this song is produced. it all has a meaning you see... but of course I will let you figure that out yourself!!

I need to hear in a song? what do the world need to hear in a song? and etc. I always think about songwriting as storytelling. and I always start out by figuring out what story I want to tell, what matter I want to dress, or what pleases me, or annoys me with the world, or what emotion I need help dealing with!! and then I write a song!!! and if you feel like its difficult to come up with melodies, I would recommend finding a song you like, and learn the chords of it (or find an instrumental version. online) and then you make your own melodies on top of that! many of the songs of the world share the same chords, and often the melodies on top is the thing separating them. music belongs to all of us, and its clear that every song in the world comes from the same magical source. 2. Thoughts on Ponyo, then?

I don’t usually watch ghibli movies or talk about them bc I don’t like Hayao Miyazaki but man I do have a soft spot for Ponyo

IMO artistically it’s the most beautiful ghibli film I’ve watched-the backgrounds carefully rendered in what could be a mix of watercolor and color pencil, the cheerful palettes, the depiction of marine fauna? it’s like lasagna for the eyes. I love the stylization, the character designs, and specially the way the sea is animated, that’s like my favorite thing about the animation in Ponyo (I adore the sea, I love the water, and I think that’s one of the reasons why I’m very partial to Ponyo). I��m a little bitch so just being exposed to things that are beautiful makes me cry

Now adding to that there’s the writing-it’s simple, it’s magic as seen through the eyes of a child, it’s easy to understand and it’s about love. Sousuke’s mom loves Sousuke, Sousuke loves his mom, Sousuke loves the old ladies at the home and Ponyo loves Sousuke and it’s just that simple!! It’s a movie about love and it always moves me to see the relationship between Sousuke and his mom (I was raised by my mom so that’s a Special Topic for me), and Sousuke telling Ponyo’s mom that he will love Ponyo no matter what makes me so soft

ngl I would fistfight Miyazaki but one of the thigns I cant get enough is the way studio Ghibli depicts elderly ladies-I love so much the old ladies at the home, they look so gentle and fun, all of them different and full of life, and seeing them running around when they’re underwater and playing like schoolgirls makes me tear up?? just thinking abt him makes my eyes watery I can’t explain

And then he gets protected in turn and finds someone who Gets Him, just a little bit, and aaahhh I’m very very tired so I’m not sure if I’m writing well but Chuuya and Atsushi! Feelings!!! I’m having very intense feelings about them finding companionship in one another and thinking the other’s ability is amazing and beautiful!!! Moving on, I’m glad you think it’s a good story idea! Admittedly, it came about because I wanted to come up with my own mythology. Yes I’m a mythology nerd, no I’ve never gotten over it. But anyways, I ALSO LOVED IT AS A KID IT WAS SUCH A GOOD SHOW,, I miss it, the designs were so cute,, but poor Atsushi would be so embarrassed- Not because he doesn’t like dresses, but because it’s much more,, Attention grabbing? Though I do wonder who his Tomoyo would be... Not Kyouka, since it’s funnier and also cuter if she Doesn’t Know, since then she can go on and on about how Cool Atsushi is without realizing and Atsushi can’t say anything to stop her with giving himself away... Maybe Yosano or the Tanizaki siblings...? Oh, maybe Lucy is his Tomoyo! I could see her convincing him to dress in frilly clothing and running around with him, and I like their friendship quite a bit. (Nyanon, 4/5)

Anyways, I have another (somewhat nebulous) AU Concept: Atsushi and everyone in some kinda Studio Ghibli film! Not sure which specific one, though, because I think they all have potential- My Neighbor Totoro is a more fluffy one, but Princess Mononoke has some really cool ideas that’d work with the characters... and of course there’s Howl’s Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky, I’m a sucker for both of those. Her story begins with Cordelia Costello, a twenty-three year old college drop-out, turned beautician, turned columnist, turned intern at a local publishing company. She was a youthful, beautiful, siren of a women, always surrounded by an aura of enigma and an entourage of men. It was no surprise to the gossips in the office that within six months working at the company, Cordelia had added to her list another title – mistress to Franklin Hozier, the Editor of the New York Times. After two blissful months and three hundred and twenty seven orgasms, Cordelia decided she wanted a baby. Franklin laughed in her face. Feeling isolated and used, Cordelia continued her affair with her boss’ boss for another month, before deciding to take matters into her own hands.

It started with a turkey baster.

Soon the infant cries of a baby girl graced the world, her wrinkled skin puckered and pink as her mother held her in her arms, glancing upon the most beautiful thing in her life. Once Tessa, named after Cordelia’s favourite literary heroine, entered the world, Franklin left her life and things took a turn for the better. Despite living in a rented one-bedroom apartment in Staten Island, on what little money Cordelia had saved, Tessa’s childhood years were filled with nothing but the happiest of memories. Times were tough, but what they lacked in money, the Costello’s made up in love. While Tessa was at school, Cordelia did odd jobs cleaning, child-minding, working in local nurseries, in order to save up enough money to give her daughter the best start in life.

Despite what she had been led to believe by television shows and teen movies, the first few years of High School were some of the best years of her life. Tessa threw herself into a multitude of activities that High School offered her, including the drama club, the orchestra, choir, badminton and the school newspaper. While she certainly wasn’t considered ‘popular’ at school, Tess had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. In fact, High School was a place where she made some of the greatest memories of her life, but come her final year, it was also a place where she was haunted by some of her worst.

On the January 17th of Tessa’s senior year of high school, a shooting took place in Westville High School. For two hours Tessa locked herself in a supply cupboard, her head between her knees as she tried to stay silent despite the screams of horror from the corridor. Eighteen students were caught in the crossfire, two of which were Tessa’s best friends. Bouquets of flowers, laminated photographs, Teddy Bears in cling-film bags attached to balloons littered the streets as families and friends came to pay tribute to the eighteen students withered before they had a chance to bloom.

It took two months of therapy before Tessa could return to school. Some of the survivors could never return due to the horrors that their eyes had laid witness to. Sometimes Tessa felt like a part of her had died with the friends that were stolen from her too soon, but one thought kept her going through: she had survived, she was alive and breathing, and she could not afford to loose a second of the precious time she had been granted on this earth. Despite the nightmares that continued to haunt her each night, Tessa found in the aftermath of the disaster a new sense of motivation. She began applying for scholarships for colleges without her mother’s knowledge, in the hope that her academic success would be enough to carry her through further education. Thankfully, it was, and after three torturous months of waiting Tess was offered an arts scholarship to her dream school, Lockwood University, where she hoped she could finally start to rebuild her life.

THE PRESENT:

Life at university was like a separate world. Students came and went like moths among the whisperings and the tequila and the stars. In this new world, Tessa was exposed for the first time in her life to alcohol, drugs, and the sexual appetites of other students her age – though she politely declined all three. Instead, Tessa threw herself into the vast array of activities in the hope that by distracting herself she could escape the terrible flashbacks that continued to haunt her. Tessa joined the lacrosse team, despite never having played before, and took up cheerleading discovering a new talent; she joined the musical theatre group, and the film club, and even set up her own acapella singing society. But despite how much she tried to throw herself into student life, her past hung around her like a bad smell, and with the added pressure of the Sinking Ships zine, Tess began to feel the weight of her secret tying her down like a pair of shackles around her wrists.

PERSONALITY:

If someone was to describe Tessa in a single word, it would most likely be ‘bubbly’, ‘open-minded’ or ‘sweet’. But they would be wrong – Tessa is not bubbly, or sweet, or stubborn, or hotheaded, or fiesty, or infectious, or any of the things the world see her as, but merely a numb and lonely echo of the gregarious, halcyon girl she once was. Tessa Costello was one of life’s enigmas. No one knew who she was, for to each person she met she wore a different mask – she dripped confidence, or was painfully shy; she was an exhibitionist, or a brooding wallflower; she took things too seriously, or not seriously at all. She was an actress and the world was her stage, each person she met a different member of the audience in the performance of her life. In truth, Tessa no longer even recognised herself. Insecure, and self-destructive, she tried to hang on to the extroverted, mischievous pieces of herself that everyone had once loved, but day by day it got harder to know what lay in the vacant holes blown through her mind. While she was stubborn and hot-headed, Tessa always saw the best in people, which meant that she was easily led astray. FMP - Table Top - Evaluation

Earlier this year I wrote my project proposal, proposing the idea for my FMP that I had imagined. The original idea is different in a few ways but ultimately the final product reflects the proposal’s intentions. Other than my admiration for the 1930′s aesthetic which I wanted to achieve, I also wanted to improve my skills outside of my “comfort zone”. I planned this through having a live action side to my animation. This was the part which I knew would create the most challenge, and I can safely say it was. I had to prepare what settings I would have the camera on, create a filming environment that was suitable for the animation and include tracking points. I succeeded in creating the environment I wanted to film in, and I even thought my camera movements came out smooth. This was all from the help of tools I practiced with such as the glide rail. This helped get a smooth panning camera shot I needed of the table. Aside form what when well with this portion of the FMP, I would definitely improve the contrast in which I filmed in. The light bloom of the room gave an overly saturation scene in some cases and this makes it very hard to motion tack using after effects. This is what I am most disappointed with. The tracking in some scenes brings the characters I have drawn, out of the world as they slide because the tracking is unstable. Despite this however, I have gained experience in media creation that I wouldn’t have if these subtle difficulties weren’t there, because then I wouldn’t needed to have found out how to improve them. I’m now more knowledgeable of Adobe software like After Effects and Premier Pro because of this. Specifically with my interest in animation, I would now be able to more carefully prepare myself when composing animation over a live action scene. With learning about software and cinematography, a lot of my aspiration was based on the appeal I have of old era animation from the 1930′s. I wanted to recreate the fluid movement and pioneered techniques that are all but unseen in today's industry. At the time of writing my proposal, I was unaware of how many rules an set backs this level of animation restricts you to. This is where my first major turn in the road had to be realized. I would not be able to perfectly recreate the style of animation with the resources I had. And this was okay, it just meant my animation would be more a homage to it. This was due to me using a computer for animation, as it would be impractical to hand draw within the given time. However, despite digitally creating all the animation I found I can still create the fluid and smooth motion. I found out that among the society of classic animators (Because there are animators who purely use tweening and bone tools etc.) there are 12 rules that following will bring frame by frame animations to life. This is what I decided I would follow as closely as possible while animating, even creating a practice animation in preparation. I had eventually re used this animation after much more practice and changed it ever so subtly, however it had a big impact on the realism of the movement. The most important thing to me, even from the proposal was learning what I now know to be “form”, moving a 2 Dimensional character believably in a 3rd Dimensional way. Now that I’ve come to the end of the project time, I’ve been given perspective on how long this animation takes and why industries have elected to using quicker less costly methods that sacrifice quality. A great help for me during the lengthy process was actually critically watching over animated shorts and films. I watched a lot of Studio Ghibli movies while making the FMP and listening to the studios methods. The films animation is so fluid and believable. Creator Hayao Miyazaki, gives a lot of credit to “people watching” saying almost every movement is based on the way he’s seen others move. This gave me a lot of thought and motivation to keep drawing even when I had little motivation. Time became the biggest obstacle in the end. As I plan on still producing the rest of the animation in my spare time, I discovered ways to make it feel less of a chore. In my original proposal, I had about a month of time allocated to production. While this seemed like enough, I didn’t factor in all the bits that get in the way. For example, keeping up with blogging. I needed to explain everything I was doing and learning through out. This is because while I was producing it wasn’t just drawing, I kept making each key framed drawing based on knowledge I had from the principles of animation. Each key frame I wanted to have Arching Motion, Slow Inns and Slow Outs, Squash and Stretch, and finally Exaggeration. The biggest incorporation that took more time than expected was anticipation and overshoot. This is having frames before and after slowly build up and release the momentum of an action. These were the main principles I focused on. Having to consider each one with each drawing made it much more lengthy than I had intended. I see this as good in a way, because if I was speeding through, then all the high level animators who say frame by frame takes years would false. Although, I have complete just over 50′s which is around the length I had originally intended. My miss sight was with story. Where I had wrote the story of the animation, it would’ve been impossible to fit it all in a minute. This lets me know I had carried myself away with a complex story that had a beginning, middle and end. I should have stuck to a simple plot, maybe not even having the second character “Shaker” who didn't make it into the FMP (as of hand in).

The research I did throughout my FMP was the foundation to everything that I made the film on. The live action cross animation was heavily inspired from the video made by “PWow” on YouTube, entitled “How to make the space jam effect in after effects”. It walked through using after effects to track the motion into a null object and us that tracking information to move the animated character. This had a large impact on my project because it’s literally what let me compose characters into a world as if they are sitting in that plane and moving with it. Obviously like I said this effect I didn't use to its best ability. With more carefully thought out lighting and use of objects. Something through research I found, in Rodger Rabbit, a film I used as inspiration for it feature length use of pioneering animation and live action, they had used objects in the live action footage that mimicked the 3D space of the character that would be imposed over the footage. This let the artists know how they would appear in that space, how the light might affect it and also, if the camera moves, the animator will know exactly where they should be. I think if I recorded live action for animation again, I would do this. It would’ve allowed me to make a much smoother tracking scene for him, by drawing over the top of the cup in real life, following its shape as the angle changes and the camera pans. I even might have just skipped the camera pans all together. Saving myself the trouble of having to track could’ve given me more production time. This would have given me more time, however I learnt a lot of how after effects works and interacts with information to create motion, and that will lead me to being able to create better things in the future. I said in my proposal that I might use a mood board to remind myself of what research I had done and what from it I should use within my animation that I would reflect on. I actually found that the aesthetic comes with simple and appealing character design and the animation itself cant just be a reference to a mood board, it requires more critical thinking. This is where my research lead me to the most useful influence I had when drawing, these being the “12 Principles of animation”, which I originally discovered from Allan Becker, a legendary YouTube self made animator, but written originally by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas. These were two Disney animators who wrote this in the book “The Illusion of Life : Disney Animation” in 1981. Not quite the 1930′s but the principles were based off all Disney learned of animation over the years of making movement look as though it were living movement. While it made my animation appear much better than I would have expected, I think it would have helped if I had delved into each one, with practices and experimentation on them. I could’ve done quick sketch animations that would individually go through them. I said how I wanted to post a lot of my research based on YouTubers and entertainment that inspires me, I think I did well keeping to this and it still remains one of my favorite ways to motivate me. I never feel more like animating than after watching a well animated short of film. However, I do take all my inspiration from similar things. Studio Ghibli and Disney classics both use flowing hand drawn frame by frame and the YouTube Animators I watch also take inspiration from them. This actually worries me because a lot of people who take their inspiration from one source end up creating “unintentional rip offs” which end up becoming someone else’s work through your hands. And that way there no creative thinking to the production. With this in mind, my future animations will be less an homage to a style, and more of an exploration of my own animating style and being more experimental, so there’s less restrictions limiting me to possibly become tunnel visioned when animating.

Taking all that I can from this project, I’ve been left in a better place than when I started for sure. Though my actual animation hasn’t reached its conclusion, all that I have gained from it is more than worth it. I’ve never had an incentive to be overly interested in cinematography, however, I wanted to experiment regardless to see if I could create a believable character in a believable world. Not believable as in it were real, but believable in the sense that its weight, appeal and body language could make sense if it were int he world its presented in. This was the goal I wanted to achieve. All these came into factor when I was researching. Aside from the composition, the second thing I wanted to achieve was the aesthetic. This mostly came into play when choosing character design and the frame by frame animation. There where a few secondary features I used to add to this, such as the film grain (dust and scratches) that I layered over the top of all the footage. These were commonly present in movies of the 30′s because all films were physical strips that could be damaged. All these attributes I believe made the 30′s aesthetic. I’m very pleased with how it looks and I think it was successful. The main thing that brought the believe-ability away was the poor tracking in some cases, where you can see the tracking slide along surfaces. This is something I will take steps to avoid in the future, hopefully to make an even more believable character. Overall, my appreciation for the style is stronger than before, I know how difficult and thought provoking frame by frame can be. Tracking might be something I use scarcely in the future and live action backgrounds can be a refreshing break from animation. For my aspiration of becoming an animation artist (in-between animator and higher) these things will certainly bring me closer to being able to fit into that work environment and understand the process behind it so that I might one day direct my own feature animation.

oh my gosh ok hmm im a hopeless romantic sappy ass so im gonna take my hubby jinyoung 2 paris!! plus ive always wanted to go there n it would be amazing if i went w him LOL we would probably go sightseeing and chilling in cafes and just explore the grounds!! can’t forget abt the eiffel tower!!!

6) What’s your favorite movie?

i dont have one there are just way too many i like rip i used to have one but that was when my movie knowledge wasnt very expanded lmaooo im always down for disney and studio ghibli films though!

7) What’s something about you that you like/ love about yourself?

im ur ultimate mom friend to the max. i love being there for others n i give out very thorough, thoughtful, and heartwarming advice. i outmom everyone!! i check up on my friends often and bring stuff in my bag that only moms would. i like to think of myself as highly empathetic and compassionate bc of how deep my emotions run so anything dealing w emotions is an utmost priority for me and for my loved ones!!

8) How do you greet people? (Im very curious about this one because Ive been forced to kiss people on the cheek my whole life but most countries arent as touchy feely)

ah, it depends on who they are! if it is a complete stranger, i would just formally introduce myself, and i would give them a handshake if they’re an authoritative figure. if it’s a close friend, then I would tackle them with a hug and scare them LOL if it’s my family, it’s a hug and a “hi”!!! my sister n i have very,,, unique ways of greeting each other, let’s just put it that way

9) Whose your favorite person in the entire world?

oh jesus i dont have someone like that but i rlly value my family and my closest friends even when my fam is testing me n drives me over the edge on a daily basis :)))))))

sunset!!! OH RIP OK EDIT: I FORGOT TO ELABORATE WHY LOL sunset colors are the only time i tolerate orange bc i dont like the color orange but the mix w the pink in the sky is just so ethereal and puts me at ease

Research for narrative analysis

here are some of my notes for the essay:

Question: Analyse your chosen narrative with close reference to the Hero’s Journey or another appropriate story template.

· N.B. You may write about the film’s failure to fit a conventional structure.

What happens in Kiki’s delivery service?

· Kiki turns 13 and a full moon she decides to leave home tonight

· She packs her bags mum is worried and brings Jiji

· Her mum gives her, her own broom and tells her she can’t take the one she made as its too small

· Kiki leaves with a vague plan on where she is going

· On the way down she is greeted with another witch ( a fortune teller) who asks Kiki what’s her talent realises she doesn’t know yet and the witch dives down avoiding the storm

· Kiki quickly finds cover in a train

· She is woken up by cows in a ball of hey

· She takes flight into the city where the civilians are amazed by seeing a witch for the first time.

· She loses control and flies manically across the city where she is stopped by a police officer

· The police officer threatens to tell her parents when tombo distracts the police officer and kiki runs away

· Tombo catches up to kiki and asks her about her flying powers, kiki doesn’t respond as she finds it rude that he didn’t introduce himself by name first

· As she walks down town she finds osono trying to give back a left behind dummy to a customer. Kiki offers to fly it down to the customer

· The customer hands a thank you note to kiki to deliver back to osono so she does

· Osono invites kiki for a cup of tea and introduces herself

· She gives her a room to stay in

· Kiki decides to create a delivery service but needs a phone so she works part time for osono to use their phone

· Her first customer wants to deliver a toy cat that looks like jiji in a bird cage to a child

· She takes the bird cage a sets of flying high to avoid traffic

· A gust of wind hits some birds and then gets attacked by crows as she hits a tree near some crow eggs kiki she drobs the cat in the middle of the forest and decides to put jiji in the cage to buy her some time

· After she delivered jiji she goes looking for the toy and finds it at ursela house

· Kiki finds that the toy is broken and ursala says she can fix it if she cleans around the house once finished she takes off to save jiji

· Jiji escapes thanks to a dog helping him escape and brings back to toy cat

· Kiki helps put some more at the bakery and takes orders tombo walks in and buys a cake then invites her to a flight party and kiki is excited

· She then gets a delivery request and sets off to the house

· Two old ladies haven’t finished making a pie and their oven breaks so kiki helps them by using the old oven and in the mean time helps around the house. She realises she is running late to the party and sets of to deliver the baked pie in the pooring rain to a snooby girl who doesn’t apprietiate the pie

· She goes home but it is too late and falls into bed upset and now sick

· She wakes up ill orsono helps kiki giving her the day off and makes her feel better

· She realises jiji isn’t speaking and she cannot fly her powers are gone so she devotes her attention to the bakery and postpones her delivery service

· Orsono tells kiki she has a special deliver she would like kiki to deliver in person

· Kiki delivers it on foot to find out its for tombo

· Tombo shows her his flying bike and they ride together and crash

· Kiki laughs and they talk

· Tombo’s friends invite him to the blimp one of them being the snoby girl and tombo invites kiki

· Kiki refuses and walks away tombo is confused but goes anyway

· Kiki goes home and is invited by Ursula to go with her and stay with her for abit

· She paints kiki and tells her that sometimes she cant paint because she needs a reason to paint just as kiki needs a reason to fly

· As kiki returns the old laddies ask her to deliver a cake to herself as a thank you for the help

· She finds tombo holding onto the blimp in danger on tv so kiki sets of to save him

· She borrows a sweeper broom from an old man and learns to fly again

· Her motivation was to save tombo and she took off and saved him

· The end

I have decided to use voglers version of the hero’s journey as I feel that it is more generalisable then Campbells.

Act 1

1. Tests, Allies, Enemies

· “The audience’s first impressions of the Special World should strike a sharp contrast with the Ordinary World.

· The most important function of this period of adjustment to the Special world is … to test the hero, putting her through a series of trials and challenges that are meant to prepare her for greater ordeals ahead.” Pg. 136

· “The Tests at the beginning of Act Two are often difficult obstacles, but they don’t have the maximum life-and-death quality of later events.”

· “If the adenture were a college learning experience, Act One would be a series of entrance exams, and the Test stage of Act Two would be a series of pop quizzes, meant to sharpen the hero’s skill in specific areas and prepare her for the more rigorous midterm and final exams coming up.” Pg.136

· “The Tests may be a continuation of the Mentor’s training. Many Mentors accompany their heroes this far into the adventure, coaching them for the big rounds ahead.” Pg. 136

· “The Tests may also be built into the architecture or landscape of the Special World. This world is usually dominated by a villain or Shadow who is careful to surround his world with traps, barricades, and checkpoints.”

· Sidekicks: “…pairings of hero and sidekick can be found throughout myth and literature…. These close Allies of the hero may provide comic relief as well as assistance.”

· “Comical sidekicks … may freely cross the boundaries between Mentor and Trickster, sometimes aiding the hero and acting as his conscience, sometimes goofing up or causing mischief.”

· “The Testing stage may also provide the opportunity for the forging of a team.”

· Enemies: “The hero’s appearance in the Special World may tip the Shadow to his arrival and trigger a chain of threatening events.” Pg. 138

· “A special type of Enemy is the rival… [who] is not out to kill the hero, but is just trying to defeat him in a the competition.”

· “The watering hole is a natural congregating place and a good spot to observe and get information.” Pg. 140

· This goes throughout the film as she meets new allies such as the old ladies and enemies (kinda) the snobby Girl

2. Approach to the Inmost Cave

· “It’s time to make final preparations for the central ordeal of the adventure.”

· “As heroes near the gates of a citadel deep within the Special World, they may take time to make plans, do reconnaissance on the enemy, reorganize or thin out the group, fortify and arm themselves, and have a last laugh and a final cigarette before going over the top into no-man’s-land. Pg. 144

· Last laugh, a joyful time (calm b4 storm)

Between the Foreshadowing of the blimp and the climax kiki goes to the mentor Ursulas house and learns she needs motivation to get her powers back her threshold guardian is her worry that she will never get her powers back but she overcomes this fear thanks to ursula

· The mid-point (can also be delayed crisis, but my novel is mid)

Kiki finds tombo hanging on for dear life on the out of control blimp due to winds fore shadowed earlier in the film with the crows

Where it goes over common themes within each of the Ghibli films and their inspirations. I helps to give a good understanding on how the films came about and why they were made the way they were.
