And I'm glad that the joke wasn't just dropped suddenly but given some sort of conclusion. I wonder though if this is Jimmy the Sheriff's character arc — that being called a "toy" is not automatically derogatory, but can be someone that is an inspiration to other people as well; that Jimmy can embrace the positive characteristics of being portrayed by Woody the Sheriff.

And there's no other person who can say it better than the "Walt Disney" of Hermitcraft himself, Mr. Good Times With Scar— a man who partnered with a charity which aim is to distribute gaming carts to sick children in hospitals because he believes in the joy that games and toys give to people.

While everyone's excited to have a Team Rancher reunion, I think Lore-wise, Scar is the best buddy Jimmy can have in Empires: The man who mocked for being a toy look-alike, meets a man who basically built his childhood fantasy into Minecraft.

I'm so excited in watching Scar's POV and what happens next after this!

Don't hate me for this but I think Huntlow is one of the most underrated but best Straight ships to exist on this Mortal Plane of existence, because every time I, a straight Christian man, wants to see a Straight ship online it's always something freaking Sexual or "ooo they're Childhood Friends" or some other fuckery that American Dramas do.

There are three games that lived rent-free in my brain as a fourteen year old, those being Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Tales of the Abyss, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. I remembered the last one existed at the start of the year and wow I fell back in love with this game. It’s got such a fun gameplay system and it’s overall a very cozy, heartwarming experience (with a dash of angst because family drama caused by corruption via dark magic but in CV that happens a bit XD). I never thought that Castlevania and wholesome would be a combination that existed but it did. With that in mind I did gush about it to a friend and they played through it and we both fell into a rabbit hole and I had to do some fanart for old times’ sake. Also I had to draw something for my portfolio in hopes of getting accepted into a zine, but regardless it’s so nice to draw Shan again after all these years.

...I do sense a weird pattern in that all the three games I liked featured an amnesiac who is often shown to be a little bit on the “three braincells” side of things gets manipulated by a bad guy into almost getting themselves killed so said bad guy can do the villain thing...and both Van from Abyss and Barlowe from Ecclesia share a voice actor. Coincidence? Might be.

Also I did this sketch dump when drawing a reference (which proved extremely useful for this portfolio drawing because those boots are a nightmare) for a hopeful future cosplay. Did I mention this game is fun?

1. The Clone Wars movie (2008)

What the FUCK. “ur stuck with me skyguy” and “u never would’ve made it as obi-wan’s padawan, but u might make it as mine.” anakin smiling to himself as he realizes that he likes this weird little child. them sneaking past the droids in a BOX. ahsoka already roasting anakin within minutes of meeting him. sand jokes. “it is the will of the force that you’re at my side.” absolutely baller, groundbreaking cinema, infinity/10

-> honorable mention to the Ahsoka novel...... every quote about them adds 50 years to my life, the value of this book cannot be quantified

2. Siege of Mandalore arc

minimal on-screen interaction, but quality trumps quantity. anakin stuttering in excitement at seeing ahsoka again. both of them being complete CLOWNS. BLUE LIGHTSABERS. u get a parallel, u get a parallel, and YOU get a parallel!!!! “anakin, good luck” what the everlasting fUCK!!!! confirmation that they’re so tight that ahsoka can sense anakin’s Worst Decision Ever over time and space. vader finds her lost lightsaber, KEEPS IT, and sees morai. utterly insane mad lad content, 100000/10

3. Star Wars Rebels

Ahsoka sensing vader in the Most Dramatic Way Possible. finds new ways to rip out my heart with ahsoka meditating to anakin’s voice (ghjkhgkjdg????), and vision!anakin accusing ahsoka of abandoning him which rly means that ahsoka was blaming herself. then twilight of the apprentice????? hello????? need i say more??? the stuff that dreams are made of, but minus 10 pts for rebels anakin design, 99990/10

It’s the story of Reki and Langa, two ships at sea that literally bump into one another. See Reki is an avid skater and is part of the underground skate culture on the island of Okinawa. He’s an enthusiastic and lovable ginger who enjoys not only skating but the mechanics of it as well. He builds his own boards and works at the local skate shop.

Then there is Langa, a young man who has just recently been transplanted to Okinawa when his Japanese mother moves there after the passing of Langa’s Canadian father. Langa is your soft-spoken and emotionally defeated teen who is still grieving for his father. But on an afternoon after school, he’s out trying to get a job when he bumps into Reki, and well the fun begins.

Reki introduces Langa to the world of skateboarding, and what a world it is. Because the underground skate scene in Okinawa is a shadowy world of elite skateboarders who meet at an abandoned mine and compete (beef) with one another for prestige and bragging rights. The entire racing community goes by the secretive letter S, and you can only get in with an invite. Luckily for Langa, Reki is his pass into this colorful and zany world of competitive skateboarders.

The show is really so anchored in friendship. You get to watch Reki break Langa out of his shell and watch as Langa melds into Reki’s group of friends and rivals. And it’s really that simple, you’d almost think that the show really isn’t all that exciting. Well here is where the “anime” portion comes in.

Because the racing competition is batshit crazy. And you’d almost think that maybe it goes too far, but in reality, it’s just a very stylized way of depicting skateboarding, but you know with that “OVER 9000” feel. Langa catches the eye of the top racer, the bullfighter costume-wearing Adam, who sees the potential in the new skateboarder from Canada, and well you just have to watch the rest. It’s a relatively short run and the first season is a complete arch. You can even skip episode 9.5 as it’s a recap episode, bringing the total of the actual show to 12 episodes, and thirteen if you go with the recap.

It’s a beautiful show, the music is tremendously fun, and aside from the over-the-top skateboarding “races” almost everything else in the show is down to earth, going at length in some episodes to explain some legitimate skateboarding details. But the show shines most with Reki and Langa as their friendship grows and struggles throughout the 12 episodes. There are some great troupe-breaking moments in the first half of the show as Langa learns to skate and incorporates his snowboarding background into the new hobby. The side cast of characters are fun but scenery for the most part. They’re developed just enough for you to be concerned for them when things get dramatic later in the show but not really any further. The ending isn’t perfect, I feel that certain diabolic characters aren’t punished for their doings throughout the show, and perhaps that’s the hook for the next season, but it doesn’t really play out like that in my opinion. Instead, the payoff is Reki and Langa’s arch.

It’s a great entry point into anime, as its subject matter is relatable even if you yourself don’t do any skateboarding. And while the scenes involving competitive skating enter into the typical overly kinetic nature of anime, almost all other skating depicted seems pretty legitimate.

The Harrowing of Hell (Doom + Animal Crossing + Jesus), and just in time for Easter!

Several of my patrons helped me form this idea over at Patreon.com/Tomics!

1. Ben Wurth reminded me to include the BFG since it’s a staple of the Doom games. 2. Fr Nathan Rawlins suggested framing the crossover as the Harrowing of Hell as well as suggesting a sort of juxtaposition between Jesus kicking butt in Hell in Doom fashion and Jesus rising to see his friends in a cute Animal Crossing scene. I didn’t have enough time to execute all his ideas, but I very much appreciate them. 3. Will Herrman suggested basing the image off of Michelangelo’s “Last Judgement”, which would have been amazing, but I didn’t have the time for it. I liked the idea a lot, though, so maybe someday I can try again.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Two videogames came out last month. The first was "Animal Crossing: New Horizons", where you play as a cute little human living in a cute little house on a cute little island with cute little animal neighbors. The second was "Doom Eternal", the latest entry in a series where you play as a space marine waging a brutal one-man war against the forces of hell. Because the games released on the same day, lots of people across the internet made artwork of the two games’ worlds coming together in a wholesome unofficial crossover. In my picture here, I add Jesus to the mix. That way I get to draw stuff from two of my favorite new games AND I get to make it Easter themed! 2. In the middle image, Jesus is based on Doomguy (the marine you play as in Doom), while the Holy Spirit is based on K. K. Slider (a traveling musician in Animal Crossing). Jesus rips and tears while the Holy Spirit shreds (on His guitar). That works, right? 3. In one hand, Jesus is holding a Holy Water Pistol, which is a bonus weapon in “Doom II RPG”. It seemed fitting for Him. In the other hand, Jesus wields the mighty BFG 144000. It’s ripped off of the BFG 9000, which is a super-powered weapon from the Doom series. In Doom, BFG stands for “Big Fun Gun”… probably… while my version stands for “Beatific Fission Gun”, a play on the term “Beatific Vision”, which is the personal experience of God that you get in heaven. Naturally, demons can’t handle that, so they’re atomized by the weapon’s light. The number 144000 is based on the number of the servants of God in the Book of Revelation. 4. The framing of the middle image is based somewhat on the first Doom cover, a true classic. 5. The demons featured in the picture are all based on different Doom demons… except for the raccoon-lookin’ dude. That’s Tom Nook from Animal Crossing. He’s a guy who builds you a house BEFORE telling you that it’ll put you hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Jesus came to pay the unpayable debt of sin, so I had Tom Nook represent that. Please, hold your applause. 6. The title “Tomb” rhymes with “Doom” and comes from the fact that, while Jesus was laid to rest in His tomb, He descended to the world of the dead. This marks the “Harrowing of Hell”, as we Christians call it, where Jesus breaks into Hell to collect all the righteous folks who died before the gates of heaven were opened. He brings them to paradise, then resurrects back to the mortal world for a bit. The subtitle “Infernal Crossing” is a play on “Animal Crossing” and comes from the fact that Jesus is crossing through Hell to do what He’s gotsta do. 7. All the pink words among the red ones in the left panel (Wild World, New Leaf, City Folk, New Horizons) are titles of Animal Crossing games. 8. “Rip and Tear” is the Doom Marine’s motto as he fights demons. The “until it is done” part is added by a mysterious narrator at the beginning of the new game. I changed “done” to “finished” to give the quote a more Biblical feel. 9. “Raze Hell” is the new Doom’s tagline. I added “Rise Again” to be more Jesus-y. 10. In the right panel, I add “hm?” to the end of a question like the character Tom Nook does in Animal Crossing. Does that make ME the villain, hm? 11. The framing of the right image is based on a phone background I saw on the Animal Crossing Twitter account. 12. Peter is in the background fishing, which is one of the many tasks you perform in Animal Crossing. 13. Mary Magdalene is in the foreground holding a custom shirt (the design is small, but it’s based on one of my own at my Etsy shop (Etsy.com/Shop/TomicsComics)! Customizing clothing is another task available in Animal Crossing. 14. Peter, Mary, and Mary Magdalene are each emoting like characters in Animal Crossing (question mark, yellow starburst of shock, wavy flowery happiness). I… I think that’s everything. Ok... so... There were many contestants in this category and most of them were Czech rappers but this one I hated with a burning passion since I was a little kit and the infomercials for the song/album played nonstop xD  Just hearing the first notes makes my skin crowl.

17. are you interested in your country’s history?

I sure am. We have some golden nuggets of great historical events - blood, sweat, and tears,  a lot of laughs. We were cool ones! 

Also, there are some historical events that people know of no matter who you ask, and the death of the last male Přemyslid (Přemyslovec) is one of them. He was killed in Olomouc, which is a town I study in and also the “capital” of my home region and time to time when I meet someone from the other side of the republic and I tell them where I am from, their initial reaction is to accuse me of the murder of Václav III., and I think that's beautiful.
