Hello! I'm an ace-spectrum person, and I'm pretty new to fandoms and I struggled finding SFW/Sex-averse friendly fics, so I thought I would give a few recommendations for those interested!
Lemme know if there's any interest in a Sherlock one or a Harry Potter one!

Mingling at the Neutrality Summit
Qrow: "Have a Whale of a Party." Sheesh, was this party catered by a three-year-old?
Cinder: Oh my! Cake! Don't mind if I help myself~.
Pyrrha: (Ghost) Cinder! That isn't just cake! It's ice cream cake!.
Cinder: Ice cream?! Agh! (Rubs napkin on her tongue) Dammit, those were my arteries, you bastards!
Weiss: So now I'm living at the Atlas dorms now. I occasionally visit home for laundry now and again.
Emerald: Mm, I remember doing that with my foster family. Are you going to pledge the Mensur Verbindung?
Weiss: Should I?
Emerald: Sweetie, it was your sister's, your mother's, AND your grandfather's comment. It's your legacy, so you should be a shoe-in.
Weiss: (Sighs) Why doesn't my father ever tell me these things?
Emerald: Besides the fact he's a petty, little asshole?
Weiss: Especially because he's a petty, little... Ahem! Excuse me...
Ruby: It was a pellet gun! I'm serious!
Ironwood: From Atlas With Warm Regards? You're kidding me! A pellet gun?
Watts: The cool one? The one that looks like it was used by Princess Laiya?
Ruby: Mhm! It was a Wilber LP57, NOT a PPLG7. Just look at the barrel!
Watts: It's so heart-breaking...
Ironwood: Why would Flames Rond use a pellet gun?! It doesn't make sense!
Jaune: So why are YOU the one hosting this event?
Jacques: Well, in case you haven't noticed, Mr. Arc, I AM a neutral party. Big Nicholas was the first and last one to officiate the summit, so I can't afford to let him show me up. So it was either me or... Weiss.
Whitley: Ow...

Crossover Ships Tournament Contestants
Alright, after putting it off for a bit (due to real life being busy and also I got lazy), I’ve finally gone through and prepared the list of ships for the tournament! Congrats to the lucky 64, and apologies to anyone else whose ship didn’t make it in. I did appreciate every single entry that followed the rules, though, and all the infodumps made me smile!
Before the list, however, I wanna say that this post and the eventual bracket matchup post are going to double as places to post your propaganda via replies and reblogs (or even asks). Going forward, I will use whatever propaganda people add to the posts/send via asks with permission to add as propaganda on the eventual bracket matches. By adding any sort of replies/tags/etc to any further tournament-related posts, you are consenting to having that propaganda added into the tournament. If you are uncomfortable with this, please state it outright on any posts/asks you might send.
Also the rule about fanart for the ships still remains; if you send/provide fanart, please also provide explicit permission from the original artist or proof that you made it yourself. Otherwise, I will not feel comfortable using it in the tournament.

I got an ask on my writing blog (@did-i-do-this-write) about how things would be different if one major event was removed, and now I can't stop thinking about it for this AU....
Because if Damien and Lucius were never homeless, then they never would have come to Oz for help. Without the motivation and personal connection to the cause, Oz never would have started Beacon in the first place.
But without Beacon, he doesn't adopt Oscar, which leaves Oscar in the foster care system eventually when his biological father refuses to properly take care of him, rejected and neglected by the only family he really knew.
And without Beacon, Blake has no where safe to stay. Vulnerable, out in the open, with no one to protect them when Adam finally tracks them down.
And without Beacon, Mercury gets sent off to another juvenile facility where he's neglected and forgotten, stuck in the criminal justice system for something he did when he was a scared kid.
And without Beacon, Weiss and Whitley have nowhere to run, stuck in the shadow and fury of their father without every really knowing where their sister is and what really happened to her.
And without Beacon, Emerald ends up being sent into foster care while Cinder gets shipped back to her abusive family.
And without Beacon, Ren and Nora get left on the streets, taking what they can get from strangers and fighting everyday to survive.
And without Beacon, Qrow....... I can't even finish that sentence........

FORGOTTEN
Tumblr media
Fandom: Prodigal Son
Pairing: none
Words: 1800
Description: Ainsley and Malcolm aren’t the only Whitley children.
She watched the news every night, ever since Ainsley Whitley got her own segment. Gwen was enthralled by this woman, her sister. She was adopted as a child she knew that.
Her first family was amazing, up until the age of six she'd had a normal, lovely childhood. But then her parents died in a car accident and she was put into foster care.
She had a long list of abusive homes, her last one was the worst. She had to watch from the closet as her foster parents killed a man and hid his body in garbage bags.
She didn't like to think about that though. It had been a closed adoption, but once she turned 18 she had it unsealed and began the hunt for her birth parents.
She thought it would be difficult to find them, but all it took a a quick google search to find the family she never had. Her birth father was a convicted serial killer, her mother was a doting housewife, her brother was a detective of sorts and her sister was a journalist.
Gwen was terrified by the thought of meeting them, so she watched the news every night. She read the paper looking for her mother and Malcolm.
She was walking down the street, staring off at nothing. Eventually her legs began to tire so she sat on park bench coffee in hand. When she looked back into focus she realized she was right across from the police station.
It was now or never she supposed. Gwen stood and walked towards the intimidating building. Taking a deep breath, she walked through the door.
She looked around the room, glancing at the officers and detectives. As she looked up someone caught her eye. A man at the back of the room, her face relaxed in fear and surprise.
Gwen thought she was ready but she was clearly wrong. They made eye contact but before he could talk to her she fled out the door and back to her apartment.
——
She was wearing a blazer, not her go to outfit by any means. She wanted to make a good impression on her 'father'. Gwen's normal attire was jeans and a t-shirt, blouse if she was feeling fancy.
She was on her way to a psychiatric prison to visit her birth father. It was an odd thing to say, on her way to a psych ward to meet her dad.
She wore glasses today instead of her usual contact lenses. Maybe to seem more intelligent or professional, maybe to obscure her face ever so slightly.
"No cell phones or sharp objects and make sure to stay behind the red line." She nodded politely and pushed her glasses back up her nose.
She walked in slowly, taking care to look at every corner of the room. She glanced over at the man chained to the wall. He smirked at her.
"Hello Dr. Whitley." She smiled at him.
"Oh please call me Martin, everyone does." She smiled at him, he was quite charming.
"Hello Martin, I'm Gwen. It's a pleasure to meet you. I assume you know why I'm here today." He tilts his head to the side in question.
"I'm an author, I'm basing a character in my book off of you and your 'escapades'. If that's alright with you of course." She smiled.
"Of course, of course. Yes Genevieve the author." He sat in an office chair and motioned for her to sit in the one across from him.
Her thoughts started to race, what would her life have been like if her mother had kept her? Martin was quite the charmer, she could see why his victims were so trusting. She had to remind herself more than a few times that he was actually a serial killer.
She slid into the seat and crossed her legs, setting the briefcase beside her. She undid the lock and pulled out a worn notebook and a pen. Their 'interview' didn't last long before they were interrupted.
The door swung open and a small group of people barged in. One face stood out, Malcolm. She looked to the ground, keeping calm.
Gwen looked up to Martin and smiled timidly. She glanced between all of them and stood.
"Thank you for your time Martin, I don't want to intrude on your family time. I'll schedule any another appointment soon, if it's alright with you of course." He smiled brightly.
"Definitely, I look forward to seeing you again Gwen." She nodded in a goodbye before leaving the room.
Her smile fell as soon as she left the room, a headache was building rapidly as she made her way home.
——
Gwen had finally made up her mind, she was going to see her mother. It was midday she was wearing a profession dress, heels and for once, her hair was actually tamed into a neat bun.
She was wearing lipstick, makeup. She'd never tried this hard before, even in high school she never did anything to make people like her.
She took a deep breath shook the thoughts from her head and willed her hand up to the door. She knocked three times in quick succession. Gwen gripped the handle of her briefcase tighter.
This was her last chance to back out, but she kept her feet glued to the ground. The door opened it was a butler or a host of sorts.
"I'm here for Ms. Whitley." He nodded and ushered me in. The man led her to a dining room, sitting at the table was Jessica Whitley.
Her hand started to shake violently, she brought her briefcase up higher to cover it. She smiled at the woman.
"Hello Ms. Whitley, my name is Genevieve Hart. I'm your daughter." The woman looked at her shocked at first but her face changed into something unreadable.
"I'm sorry dear I only have one daughter, you must be mistaken." Gwen's face dropped.
"You had a baby shortly after your husband was sent to jail. You gave birth on September 6th. You gave your baby to a nice family near the Canadian border. You didn't name her. It was a closed adoption but the file was unsealed about a year and a half ago." Jessica looked at her with a mix of anger and fear.
Gwen's facade slowly slipped as her eyes watered.
"What you didn't know was that the sweet, loving family you gave me to died six years after I went to live with them." The woman stood and walked to Gwen.
"Please just- you don't have to love me or pay me or anything. I just wanted to meet my family. I'll go." She nodded to herself and moved to turn away.
"I was going to name you Maria, after my mother. But I knew that if I did I wouldn't be able to let you go. I've wanted to reach out but I couldn't." A tear fell from her mother's face.
"Can I hug you?" The older woman asked an almost whisper.
She nodded and walked into the woman's arms, Gwen was crying now. Only a few tears, she wiped them away quickly. She stepped back but her mother kept a grip on her shoulders, looking into her eyes.
——
They talked for a few hours, Gwen eventually gave Jessica her phone number. She left when the sky had darkened to black.
They talked over the phone for a few weeks, Gwen loved spending time with Jessica. She still hadn't called the woman 'mom' yet but she was the closest Gwen had ever had.
They met up a few times as well, mostly talking about her siblings and their childhood.
"Stay for dinner tonight, I want you to stay and meet your siblings." Gwen nodded.
"I'd love to." The door creaked open and a young blond woman walked in.
"Ainsley, it's lovely to see you my dear, we have a guest for dinner." The other woman stared at her sweetly and held out a hand
"Nice to meet you.. ?"
"Gwen."
"Well we'll wait for Malcolm to share the good news." They smiled at each other and sat.
The younger women seemed to hit it off quite well, talking mostly about Ainsley and her career. It wasn't too long before Malcom came home.
"Malcolm, sweetheart. I'm so glad you're finally here. I want you to meet Gwen." He smiled and looked at Gwen quizzically.
"You were at Claremont and you were at the precinct a few weeks ago." She nodded.
Jessica turned to face the youngest of the three, she looked annoyed to say the least.
"You went to see him? What were you thinking Gwen?!" Jessica screeched out. Gwen sighed and put her head in her hands.
"It was before I came to see you, I just wanted to see him. To know what I missed out on."
"What you missed out on was psychopathic, narcissistic serial killer." Gwen rolled her eyes.
"I'm sorry why did you go and see my dad?" Ainsley asked.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about, how about we sit down." Jessica asked. She led them all to the the living room.
"Malcolm, Ainsley when your father got sent to prison I was- I was distraught, I needed time to heal, to help you heal. But I found out I was pregnant I couldn't get rid of my baby but I couldn't keep her either. So I gave her up for adoption." Jessica slid her hand over the couch and placed it overtop of Gwen's.
"How could you not tell us. Mom? I- we have a little sister we never knew about?" Ainsley let out is a gaspy breath.
Gwen looked up, Malcolm's eyes bored into her, reading her like an open book.
"That's why you came to the precinct, you were trying to psych yourself up to actually meeting us." Her eyes glistened as she nodded.
She glanced up at the clock, the time seemed to pass faster than it seemed.
"I've been waiting to meet you my whole life. I don't expect a relationship, or sympathy, or money for all that matters. I just wanted to meet you. Speaking of which it's getting late I should be getting home." She smiled and stood, Jessica stood quickly and lunged towards the girl, wrapping her in a tight hug.
"Call me later sweets." She whispered into her daughters ear.
She smiled at the two others, she was making her way to the door when Ainsley jumped up as well and lassoed her into a hug. Ainsley held her tightly. Gwen stepped back and smiled to the girl, she nodded in goodbye to Malcolm not expecting much from him.
But he too walked forward and held her in a gentle hug. She could feel the emotion weeping from his body. She pulled away for the final time and walked out the door.

Museums to Reap £24 Million Investment Boost
Tumblr media
Museums Set for Major Infrastructure Enhancements
Museums across England are on the brink of a transformative era, thanks to a generous £24 million funding initiative aimed at propelling the nation's cultural heritage into the global limelight. Additionally, this investment, part of the Government's unwavering dedication to fostering world-class culture, promises to rejuvenate local economies and enhance the museum experience for all.   A Wave of Cultural Renaissance With a strategic focus on local economic growth, the Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND) has unveiled its fourth round, inviting accredited museums to vie for a share of the £23.8 million pie. Furthermore, this fund, launched by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, is a testament to the Government's long-term vision for the arts and heritage sector.   Success Stories: A Legacy of Transformation Since its inception in 2021, MEND has already channelled over £40 million into 67 impactful projects. From the architectural revival of Scarborough’s Rotunda Museum to the critical refurbishments at the Framework Knitters Museum in Nottingham, the fund has breathed new life into diverse cultural institutions.   The Heartbeat of Communities Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay, Arts, and Heritage Minister, emphasises museums as community linchpins, enriching local tourism and education. This additional funding not only underlines the Government's commitment to cultural preservation but also ensures that museums continue to be accessible and engaging for everyone, regardless of their location.   Noteworthy Beneficiaries From the historic enhancements at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum to the essential upgrades at the London Transport Museum, the fund's reach spans a broad spectrum of the museum landscape. Furthermore, it demonstrates a comprehensive approach to supporting diverse institutions across the country. These projects not only safeguard our heritage but also ensure that museums remain vibrant centers of learning and inspiration.
A Future-Proof Legacy
Darren Henley, CEO of Arts Council England, heralds museums as pivotal to the socio-economic fabric of English towns and cities. Moreover, by fortifying the infrastructure of these institutions, the initiative aims to secure a resilient and dynamic future for the museum sector. This will, in turn, amplify its contribution to local communities and economies.   Sources: THX News, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Arts Council England & Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay. Moon Flower is a spellbinding urban fantasy that will leave you breathless. Heather Ewen-Foster’s suspenseful tale immerses you in a world of danger, romance, and mythical creatures. Get ready for an electrifying adventure that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.
MY REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So I started my New Year's with this bang up job of a book called Moon Flower. It started off real strong introducing us to the main heroine Sonia. She is 250 years old and has settled into a quiet neighborhood of Los Angeles. She just wants to live out her days in peace till the next great move. But there is an unrest beginning in her town and vampires are disappearing at an alarming rate. Sonia finds herself sucked into the middle of a mess and it may just cost her her life.
The book started off real quick and full of action. The book continues this pace with non-stop action throughout. But as I read this book I found that it would cut off a scene too sharply leaving the readers to use their imagination to finish the scenes. This is ok for most scenes, but when it comes to the final epic ending it cuts off again and this time it felt like you were robbed of something in the end. This is why I took a star away from my review.
The story itself was interesting and entertaining. It has unique and fun characters. Especially Sunny. He was an exciting character who brought life to the story. Alex on the other hand has a history that the author did not divulge into enough. I can tell there is another story to be told there.
Overall the book was a good and entertaining read. It has a lot of action and a bit of emotion to it as well. It is full of danger and adventure. Lots of blood and gore so I hope you are not squeamish. An adventure story of a power play struggle that is full of deception and jealousy.

Bob Mills's quest to learn more about his family lineage
As I was going through some papers  yesterday, I came across letters between my grandfather, Bob Mills and his uncle Theodore "Tom" Packard in 1970. Unfortunately, the letters I have are incomplete so I cannot tell the full story, but I'll do the best I can.
On September 6th, 1970, Tom Packard, living on Summit Street in Plainfield, MA wrote Bob Mills with familiarity, glad that Bob had written him as he had misplaced Bob's letter. He said he remembered Bob's father, Robert "Bert" Byron Mills II, whom had come to visit Tom's father, Cyrus W. Packard at the farm. He even recalled that Bert and another one of his friends drove the first "Interstate" car he had ever seen and remembered that Bert had "lost some fingers  in an ensilage cutter." Tom even mentioned Bert's foster father, Robert "Uncle Rob" Byron Mills I, whom was in Heath with Charles Packard before he died, even coming to Plainfield to stay with Tom and his family. It was here that Bob would get a photo of Charles, Bob, Hattie, and others together, along with photos of John and Margaret Bibby, although the latter two were not within future family history Bob would write, The Packard-Mills Family History.

Likely the photo of John, Charles, and RBM II that Bob referred to.

There are varied other pictures of RBM and Hattie, so I'm not sure exactly to which ones Tom is referring to, but he clearly was more than willing to share information.
As his letter goes on, he says that his father, Cyrus, married three times, first to Nellie Mason who "died in childbirth in 1789 [sic, should be 1889] of german measles," noting that with Dora Mills he had various children, which included: John Henry (born Oct 15, 1882, died Oct 28, 1950), Margaret Alice (born Jan. 27, 1884) whom was still living by Sept 1970 and had married Kenneth Brown of Melrose, Massachusetts on September 2, 1913, having 1 daughter and 2 sons, with Kenneth  dying on April 7, 1947, and Joseph Winfield (born June 17, 1885) whom was said to be "killed on railroad in Nebraska Mar. 9 1910" and was buried in Sioux City, Nebraska (a place that does not exist!). Other children of Dora and  Cyrus were, he recounted, Charles Edward (born May 6, 1887 and died on Nov 4, 1960) whom married Bertha Churchill in 1919 and lived at a farm in Heath, where he and her were buried, and Marian Estelle (born Feb. 13, 1889, died June 13, 1965) whom married Edward Dean on March 23, 1908 with both living in Bridgeport, Connecticut until his death in 1954, after which she married John Nocker and was buried in West Hill cemetery.
He goes onto name a number of other children of Dora and Cyrus: Robert Byron (born Jan. 9, 1891) whom was "adopted by Uncle Robert Mills" and married Miriam Hirst on June 5, 1921, correctly noting he had Bob as his son but incorrectly said Stanley was his son (he was actually the son of Rob and Hattie), and Mable Hattie (born July 19, 1892) who married Giles Whitley (whom died in 1920) and had 2 sons and 2 daughters, later marrying Joseph Landstrom (whom died in May 1962)  with whom she had five daughters, dying on December 1, 1961. He also notes that Charles married a second time after Bertha's death to Pearl Gleason in Heath, a woman whom died on  Feb 1, 1956, and they had one  son named Douglas E. whom lived in Shelburne Falls and they  had 2 daughters, one of whom was married. For Margaret, he noted that she, at the time of the letter's writing, living with her son at 2113 Pepper Street in Burbank, California. Apart from noting that  Mable Hattie, John, and Marian are buried in West Hill Cemetery, he notes there  is a "stone for Joseph who was buried in Nebraska."
In the last part of his letter, he  talks about the  five children Cyrus, his father, had with Clementina Cheney. These are: Olive Martha (Oct. 23, 1896-Jan. 20, 1969), Herbert Miles (Oct 6, 1898-Aug. 30,  1966), Rachel May (Apr 13, 1900-Sept.22,1933), himself on May 2, 1902, and Harold Cyrus (Aug 24, 1907). The letter  ends with him noting that his father died  on April 2, 1924, his brother on June 27, 1923, saying he would be willing to provide  further information, giving a quick sketch of the line of descent which can be visualized as: Cyrus-William Henry-Barnabas  III-Barnabas II-Barnabas I-John-Zaccheus-Samuel, then saying that the Packards are "supposed to be from the Norman Family in France of Picard" and came to England with William the Conqueror in 1066. After hoping Bob would visit and write in the meantime, he ends, after his signature, by saying "I can supply adresses [sic] of other branches of the Packard Family if you wish."
On September 17th, Bob wrote back Tom with delight, saying that "both I and everyone in the family were delighted to re-establish contact with the Packards," with information Tom  provided  used  to construct a chart of family history and fills in a lot of gaps,  although he hoped any errors could be corrected.
Tumblr media
This is the family chart Bob created. Current names and information about living individuals have been redacted
Bob's biggest question was the early life of his father, Robert "Bert" Mills (originally Packard) with his birth father, Cyrus, and mother, Dora, saying he only had vague recollections. He said that his father was apparently named after Dora's sister, Robert, and says he has "a picture of Dora and Cyrus Winfield Packard, as well as two pictures of the farm at Plainfield and these are in a family album." I don't think pictures of that farm in Plainfield and am not sure if the photos of Dora and Cyrus he references have fully survived to the present. After this he highlights how his father died on April 11, 1956 in his sleep as a victim of a stroke, had been a Fire Chief of Cheviot for almost 30 years (1926-1956?), with his mother as Miriam Esther Hirst (born on June 4, 1899), further noting that the "Hirst family were early settlers in the U.S. from England, and this family goes way back in English history." He even says that his aunt, Marjorie Hirst (Frame) was inspired by his family chart on the Packards, then setting about "trying to  reconstruct a similar history of  the Hirst family."
Bob continues in his letter by talking about his mother and other matters. On his mother, he notes that she died on June 18, 1961, dying from an illness of years which was "complicated by diabetes and  cancer," noting that she, like RBM II, Hattie, and Stanley  were all buried in Cincinnati's Spring Grove Cemetery. Interestingly, he notes that Stanley, the "only natural son of Uncle Rob and Hattie, did in 1934 at the age of 33 years from causes which have never been clear to anybody," suspecting the death from drugs, and that he never married at all.  He goes onto note the three children of his parents, including himself, who was born on June 5, 1924, marrying Florence Louise "F.L." Schaefer (born August 17, 1926), meeting at Antioch College, with F.L.'s family coming from Nutley, New Jersey. He also notes his own two children of his own, which he was proud of, but I will not name them at this time as both are currently living. After this, he outlines the two other children of his mother and father, his siblings. One is Helen Eileen Mills (born August 5, 1929) who married Alex Efthim (born November 29 1916), the latter being a "large Albanian family from St. Louis," with Alex being a professor of Social Work at Detroit's Wayne State University, with them having one child. He then goes to list his sister, Carol Ruth Mills (born August 19, 1930), noting that she married Paul Edward Sieck in 1951, whom he describes as the "Vice-President of a local manufacturing concern," and have four children, two of which were adopted.
He ends his letter by writing that he and his sister Carol had been discussing possibly visiting Plainfield within the next year, possibly while skiing at nearby Berkshires. He then asks to tell more about Douglas Packard and his respective family in Shelburne Falls, along with Tom's brother, Harold Cyrus. The letter ends with "Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness."
On September 27th, Tom Packard sent a response to Bob. He doesn't have much to say about the death of Dora, saying she "did before my day" and only knows family lore, recommending that Bob write to Margaret Packard (Brown) in Burbank, California since sh was "about 11 years old when her mother died [and] she had a good memory of those matters." He adds, about Dora, that she married his father, Cyrus, in Glens Falls, New York, and that she "did here of consumption on Feb. 5, 1895." His letter goes onto note that there  are various areas in the Berkshires Hills for skiiing, and adds that he owns the old farm (which "burned out in 1946") which was owned by his father, along with adjoining land. As he describes it, "the old plave [sic] still had many pleasant memories, and all the brothers and sisters always enjoyed getting  back for a visit."
He concludes his letter by hoping to see Bob and his family the coming winter, and thinks they should write to Margaret. He also enclosed a photo of his father "taken a few months before he died," which he notes was from a brain tumor, and that he "was  in much pain for a few weeks before he sank into a merciful comer [coma?]" while his mother "died of heart  trouble the year before."

There are many questions from this exchange of letters? Did Carol and Bob visit Plainfield and meet with Tom? That is never known, as the next letters pick up in 1976. Further discussion of some of this topics will resume on my sister blog, Milling 'round Ireland, while others will be on this blog. Until next time!

(SANEM ARSLAN) who looks an awful lot like (AYCA AYSIN TURAN) has just been seen around Port Whitley!  Apparently (SHE) is/are a (25) year old (FEMALE) born on (JANUARY 13TH) and has been in the city for (ALL HER LIFE) living in (OAK BROOK) and is a (TATTOO ARTIST). If there is a quote to describe them it would be “THE QUESTION ISN’T WHO’S GOING TO LET ME, THE QUESTION IS WHO’S GOING TO STOP ME?" - But we have yet to make up our mind if that is accurate.
TW: adoption, foster homes, alcoholism
Sanem Dilara Arslan was born to two people who honestly shouldn’t have had kids. They were teenagers caught up in the moment and thought marriage was better than nothing. Sanem was given up for adoption at three months old when it became obvious that a baby couldn’t fix a relationship and she spent most of her life bouncing from foster home to foster home.
She was adopted at age seven by Elizabeth and Garrett Thomas, a couple who was more performative about their work than anything. They had adopted seven kids by then, Sanem being the youngest one of all. They had attempted to change her name from Sanem to a name that didn’t suit her and it only stopped when it became clear that she wouldn’t answer to it. They adopted kids from unfortunate circumstances for no other reason than martyrdom. After adopting Sanem, the state finally told them they couldn’t adopt or foster anymore because they ran out of room.
By the time Sanem turned fourteen, she had been threatened with a group home five times unless she “played ball.” She couldn’t keep any money from babysitting jobs she did or any odd jobs, as her siblings often stole it out of their room. Sometimes, it was simply because she had to “earn her keep” and give her parents money for rent and food, despite the checks given to them by the state.
Sanem was kicked out the day after her eighteenth birthday with nothing but a backpack of clothes and about fifty dollars to her name. She was forced to move onto her neighbor’s couch until she could figure out her next move. With no phone and hardly any way to get one, she took odd jobs to make enough to buy her own phone. Her biggest stress relief growing up was art and she wasn’t just good, she was good. Few things came naturally to her, but art was it. The one gift she ever received without strings or expectations of repayment was an art set and a small section of the house to work. She gets accepted to Paier College and works as a waitress and as an artist in the meantime in order to pay bills until she met someone who changed her world forever. It’s from them that she heard the four words she hadn’t realized she was dying to hear her entire life: let me help you.
Having someone pay for college, an apartment, and an actually decent lifestyle was completely foreign, but for the first time, she knew what it was like to not have to struggle. She could focus on school instead of working herself into the ground.
Headcanons:
Became a sugar baby to pay for art school, still very good friends with said former glucose guardian (it wasn’t a romantic/sexual relationship, but instead a mentor/mentee-esque relationship. this person only wanted to help her succeed when everyone wanted to hold her back. they also helped her get sober) (Connection filled by Matthieu Dixon)
Recovering alcoholic, started her journey of sobriety two years ago. She still struggles, but she’s determined to not relapse. Smokes both marijuana and nicotine for the oral fixation, both vape pens and cigarettes. Surprisingly great at being hydrated.
Became a tattoo artist upon seeing Miami Ink and loves the challenge. She specializes in animals and flowers, as well as calligraphy. She’s currently honing her people-drawing skills, as well as big cats. Strangely talented with dogs/wolves/all things canine.
Well-known for having a light touch and a close attention to detail.
Has a black Lab named Bosco.
Allergic to cats and strawberries.
No contact with her adoptive family, despite their attempts to get in touch with her.
