Which DuckTales (2017) Characters Would The Yautja Deem To Be Worthy Prey?

Ok. Here I’ll be going over which DuckTales (2017) characters the Predators would consider to be worthy prey. For those of you that don’t know, the Predators, also known as the Yautja, are an alien species of hunters that choose to hunt what they deem to be dangerous game. And the Predators also live by a Code Of Honor. For example, as shown in the Predator (1987) movie, a Predator called the Jungle Hunter spared a woman named Anna Gonsalves since she was unarmed. And as shown in the Alien VS Predator movie, also have a ranking system that is partly determined by their performance against another alien species called the Xenomorphs. This post is also partly inspired by AcidGlow’s Predator: Rank System Explained - Yautja Society And Hierarchy YouTube video. Also, Spoiler Alert for the DuckTales (2017) TV series and the Predator franchise. With all that out of the way, let’s dive right in.

I think that the Yautja would deem Scrooge McDuck as worthy prey. After all, as shown in the episode ‘Last Christmas!’, Scrooge outwitted the Ghost Of Christmas Past. Also, as shown in the episode ‘The Phantom And The Sorceress!’, Scrooge traveled to another realm. And, as shown in the episode ‘Shadow War Part 2: Day Of The Ducks!’, Scrooge helped defeat Magica De Spell. So, with all of that experience, I think that Scrooge might attract the attention of a Yautja Clan Leader who has hunted and killed 3 hives of Xenomorphs alone with their Xenomorph Queens. So, Scrooge probably has more than a century of experience. Also, as shown and stated in the episodes ‘Woo-oo’ and ‘Escape To/From Atlantas!’, Scrooge is an adventure enthusiast. So, given that they live in a culture that strongly emphasizes hunting, the Yautja may find Scrooge’s type of enthusiasm admirable. Plus, since, as shown in the ‘Woo-oo!’, Scrooge got back to adventuring after years of retirement, a Yautja Retiree might see that and become inspired to come out of retirement themselves and challenge Scrooge McDuck in a hunt or duel.

I also think that the Yautja would deem Goldie O’Gilt as worthy prey. But I think it would be for different reasons. Whereas the Yautja would mainly consider Scrooge McDuck to be worthy prey because of his wits and various adventures, the Yautja would probably consider Goldie O’Gilt to be worthy prey mainly because of her sneakiness and trickery. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’, Goldie outwitted both Scrooge McDuck and Flintheart Glomgold. Goldie also caused a demon uprising in another realm as stated in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’. That probably required a lot of cleverness and sneakiness on her part. Given all that, I think that Goldie might also attract the attention of a Yautja Clan Leader. As I said earlier, they are revered Yautja who lead their own hunting clans. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’, due to finding a Fountain Of Youth somewhere along the way, Goldie has been around from before the Klondike Gold Rush all the way up to the Present. So, Goldie probably also has a century of experience. Also, because of Goldie’s sneakiness and trickery, the Yautja may also see Goldie as more than suitable prey to put their own wits and cunning to the test.

I think that the Yautja would deem Bentina Beakley to be worthy prey. After all, as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, Beakley was a spy who worked for SHUSH. And in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, Beakley was the one selected to go after Black Heron out of all the agents who worked for SHUSH. That probably means that Beakley is one of SHUSH’s senior agents which would also mean that she has a lot of experience under her belt. So, Beakley might attract the attention of an Elite Predator. After all, as shown in the Alien VS Predator Requiem movie, Elite Predators like Wolf are among the deadlier of the Yautja who are able to take on multiple Xenomorphs and even the Predalien. Also, given what I said earlier, I think that Beakley’s level of experience would probably be on par with an Elite Predator. And it’s fitting for one of SHUSH’s elites to attract the attention of an Elite among the Yautja.

I think that Webby Vanderquack would be deemed as worthy prey by the Yautja. After all, as shown in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, Webby is a pretty good fighter for her age and was able to trick Huey and Dewey and make them mistake a dark colored paper shaped like her silhouette for her shadow. And I think that the honorable Yautja would admire that sort of dedication from a child especially since, as shown in the Alien VS Predator movie, they send Young Bloods who are mainly adolescent Yautja on their first real hunt in order for them to earn their plasma casters. However, I think it would be a Bad Blood (Yautja who defy the Yautja Honor Code) who would go after Webby. I think that the honorable Yautja would refrain from going after Webby. According to the AVP Wiki, the Yautja Honor Code states that it’s dishonorable to hunt a child. I haven’t exactly found any citations on that to back it up. But since the honorable Yautja wouldn’t kill an unarmed person as shown in the Predator (1987) movie where the Jungle Hunter didn’t go after an unarmed person named Anna Gonsalves who was part of a guerilla force and was a fully grown woman, I don’t think refraining from hunting and killing a child would be too much of a stretch. But that wouldn’t stop a Bad Blood. As shown in the Predators (2010) movie, while they do at least sometimes want to hunt worthy prey, Bad Bloods will use beasts and surveillance drones to try to find their prey. And as shown in the Predator (1987) and Predator 2 movies, honorable Yautja like the Jungle Hunter and the City Hunter respectively didn’t try using those types of tactics to locate their prey because of the Yautja Honor Code. And if Bad Bloods are willing to go against the Yautja Honor Code, they will probably go after children if they believe they’re worthy prey.

I think that the Yautja would deem Donald Duck to be worthy prey. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The House Of The Lucky Gander!’, Donald was able to use his fury to make it through a Luck Vampire’s deadly obstacle course. I think the Yautja would believe that level of fury would make Donald worthy prey. Donald might attract the attention of an Elite Predator. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’, Donald has been adventuring since he was a child. That probably means that Donald has quite a lot of experience that might be on par with the experience of an Elite Predator.

I think that the Yautja would deem Della Duck to be worthy prey. After all, as shown in the episode ‘What Ever Happened To Della Duck?!’, Della was able to survive for 10 years on the moon despite being all alone while also having to fend off a giant creature along the way and she also managed to make a prosthetic leg for herself after she lost one of her organic legs. I think that the Yautja would deem Drake Mallard AKA Darkwing Duck to be worthy prey. The Yautja might not think much of Drake Mallard as worthy prey at first. However, I think that the Yautja would still be impressed by how Drake always tries to persevere no matter what the obstacle. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Duck Knight Returns!’, Drake still tried to persevere against Jim Starling despite Drake being caught in a small explosion, a piano being dropped on top of him and being electrocuted. I think that the Young Bloods would take that as an excellent example for them to always persevere no matter what the obstacle during their hunts. I think it would be during or after the episode ‘Let’s Get Dangerous!’, Drake Mallard, despite being scared at first, managed to help take down a group of supervillains who had superpowers. And I think that will attract the attention of a Blooded Predator. As shown in the Alien VS Predator movie, Blooded Predators are Young Bloods who have successfully killed their first fully grown Xenomorph without the use of a plasma caster. Drake may not have as much experience as Scrooge McDuck, Goldie O’Gilt and the rest. But his performances in the episodes ‘The Duck Knight Returns!’ and ‘Let’s Get Dangerous!’ have shown that he would be deemed a worthy opponent by a Blooded Predator.

I think that the Yautja would deem Penumbra to be worthy prey. As stated in the episode ‘The Golden Spear!’, Penumbra was the Moon’s greatest warrior against the Mites. That probably means that Penumbra is a battle-hardened veteran with a lot of experience. So, Penumbra will probably attract the attention of an Elite Predator. After all, a battle-hardened veteran’s experience would probably be on par with the experience of an Elite Predator. Although, given their culture, the Yautja would probably find themselves bewildered seeing a battle-hardened veteran having a new-found enjoyment of Earth fun like roller skating that Penumbra displayed in the episode ‘They Put A Moonlander On The Earth!’.

I feel like I was always meant to be a Horror person, and for most of my life I'd say I'd be in like the kiddie pool of it like enjoying things that weren't too intense, but the thing that really stopped me was seriously just mental illness, like I could NOT handle jumpscares of any kind without genuine distress like often triggering full on anxiety/panic attacks, disturbing imagery would contribute to psychotic episodes (fun fact my actual diagnosis explaining that kind of thing is "depression with psychotic features" which in the last few years was finally given), I was extremely squeamish of blood and gore for similar reasons of triggering bad mental spirals, and like overall anything could contribute to symptoms like paranoia, hypervigilance, anxiety, nightmares, hyper empathy responses, etc

But I was always drawn to it, I WANTED to like it so badly, but I COULDN'T because of mental health. It wasn't until I was prescribed anti anxiety and SSRI's I would stop having such intense unhealthy reactions. My first time going through a haunted house SINCE CHILDHOOD!! was iirc 2020, I had taken minipress in preparation (didn't stay on it long because it dropped my heart rate too much but it worked great for managing like, adrenaline spikes induced by jumpscares and keep me from going over the line into panic hahaha)

I had started playing more horror games in around .. 2017? But would carefully curate as to avoid once that could harm my mental health. And from there I kinda did the same thing with movies.

For whatever reason, ultimately zoloft helped the most with that (maybe because it brought my baseline anxiety down?) And around that same time I started dating my partner @shijuruiburning who is a huge gigantic horror fan and I admired them so much, and wanted to be more like the person they are (more than just the horror stuff too!)

I feel more comfortable than I've ever been about my Genre so to speak, what I surround myself with, and (just like the kiddie pool but now in the big boy pool) engaging with horror helps me cope with my cptsd and all sorts of things! It was literally just a matter of getting past the reactions I couldn't control to finally interact with themes and visuals I KNEW I wanted to and I KNEW would speak to me.

Some of my own personal work and projects have horror elements to them, it's always inspired me, and now I just feel.. really happy about it all.

The fact my first haunted house walk through as an adult was in 2020 and by 2022 I was WORKING at one.

I have mental health practitioners to thank as well as my partner for nurturing and being patient with the person i wanted to be. I just feel.. less confused about my identity if that makes sense. Less ashamed. More doors opening for my artistic expression.

Anyway just something I was thinking about! Feeling okay about myself for a fleeting moment before my traumatized brain decides its too foreign to feel okay and I have to beat myself up more ;;;;

Mangaka Spotlight- Natsuki Takaya

Most known for creating Fruits Basket, Natsuki inadvertently pioneered the shojo Manga genre. I wanted to take this opportunity to share more about the artist, rather than their art. I think the world over has taken notice and understands her artwork, but not much is known about her. And maybe that's by design, I respect that. Still, I'd like to share the readily available information about her. with artists, or people that are not aware of her as a person.

Takaya was born July 7th, 1973, in Shizuoka, Japan. The year of the OX! Her real name is Hana Hatate, but I'll continue with her pen name. Although she was born in Shizuoka, she was raised in Tokyo. She wanted to become a Mangaka as early as first grade when her older sister took up art. Her sister's influence proved successful because right after high school, she would make her debut as an Artist.

From my research, aside from drawing, Takaya also enjoyed playing video games. Such as Sakura Wars and the Final Fantasy series.

In 1992, at 18 years old, Takaya entered the professional mangaka scene working with the magazine called Hana to Yume Planet Zōkan magazine. Two years later, in the same magazine, she would create her first serilized story, Phantom Dream, from 1994 to 1997.

The insane thing is, during the production of Phantom Dream, she also worked on her second serialized Manga, Tsubasa: Those With Wings from 1995 to 1998. Let's just take a moment to admire all the hard work Takaya put in. This woman's career snowballed since 18 years old, and boy, that type of dedication is rare to see!

Her third series would begin in 1999 with her magnum opus, Fruits Basket, and conclude in 2006.

Some things to note about the creation of FURBA. Her interest in the Zodiac came from a dictionary she was reading that referenced the Zodiac animals. Takaya also stated in interviews that the story of FURBA was the story she intended to tell through the entire process of production. That's so amazing!

Around volume 6 in the series, Takaya suffered an injury to her left hand (her drawing hand) that required surgery. Resulting in a brief hiatus. I could not find an explanation on how she injured herself, but I suspect it was a case of carpal tunnel, a common injury for artists.

In 2001, Furba went on to win the Kodansha Manga Award for best Shojo Manga. In the same year, Furba got its first Anime adaption, which was later rebooted in 2019. The series easily became the best-selling Shojo series in North America.

In between creating Furba, Takaya also created Songs to Make You Smile which was around 1998. It's a collection of short stories that were published in one volume in 1999.

It seemed after Furba, she took a well-deserved break before creating another series, Twinkle Stars, in 2007, which ended in 2011.

The following series was interesting to look up. In 2011 Liselotte and Witch's Forest was published, but around 2013 Takaya put the series on a hiatus due to an unknown illness. To this day, the story is put on hold. However, Takaya stated she would finish the series little by little.

The last few works, I'll bunch together, as most of them are similar. Fruits Basket Another was created by Tanaka to advertise the original Fruba series. And Fruits Basket: The Three Musketeers Arc 1 & 2 is a spin-off series with 6 chapters available. These seem to be digitally exclusive, and most likely just for fun.

Ironically, I mentioned at the beginning I wanted to focus on the artists, rather than their art. But in researching Takaya much of her personal life is kept private. I believe from what I see, her Manga was her life. And it's through her work we learn the type of person she is.

I hope that whatever her current situation is, she is healthy and proud of all her accomplishments. I'm in awe of the amount of work experience she has created for herself at just the age of 48.

Wang’s company has a vested interest in that vision, since it regularly works with the Pentagon processing large quantities of training data for AI projects. But there is a conviction within US military circles that increased use of AI and machine learning are virtually inevitable—and essential. I recently wrote about that growing movement and how one Pentagon unit is using off-the-shelf robotics and AI software to more efficiently surveil large swaths of the ocean in the Middle East.

Besides the country’s unparalleled military data, Wang told the congressional hearing that the US has the advantage of being home to the world’s most advanced AI chipmakers, like Nvidia, and the world’s best AI expertise. “America is the place of choice for the world’s most talented AI scientists,” he said.

Wang’s interest in military AI is also worth paying attention to because Scale AI is at the forefront of another AI revolution: the development of powerful large language models and advanced chatbots like ChatGPT.

No one is thinking of conscripting ChatGPT into military service just yet, although there have been a few experiments involving use of large language models in military war games. But observers see US companies’ recent leaps in AI performance as another key advantage that the Pentagon might exploit. Given how quickly the technology is developing—and how problematic it still is—this raises new questions about what safeguards might be needed around military AI.

This jump in AI capabilities comes as some people’s attitudes toward the military use of AI are changing. In 2017, Google faced a backlash for helping the US Air Force use AI to interpret aerial imagery through the Pentagon’s Project Maven. But Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has softened public and political attitudes toward private sector collaboration with tech companies and demonstrated the potential of cheap autonomous drones and of commercial AI for data analysis. Ukrainian forces are using neural deep learning algorithms to analyze aerial imagery and footage. The US company Palantir has said that it is providing targeting software to Ukraine. And Russia is increasingly focusing on AI for autonomous systems.

Despite widespread fears about “killer robots,” the technology is not yet reliable enough to be used in this way. And while reporting on the Pentagon’s AI ambitions, I did not come across anyone within the Department of Defense, US forces, or AI-focused startups eager to unleash fully autonomous weapons.

But greater use of AI will create a growing number of military encounters in which humans are removed or abstracted from the equation. And while some people have compared AI to nuclear weapons, the more immediate risk is less the destructive power of military AI systems than their potential to deepen the fog of war and make human errors more likely.

When I spoke to John Richardson, a retired four-star admiral who served as the US Navy’s chief of naval operations between 2015 and 2018, he was convinced that AI will have an effect on military power similar to the industrial revolution and the atomic age. And he pointed out that the side that harnessed those previous revolutions best won the past two world wars.

But Richardson also talked about the role of human connections in managing military interactions driven by powerful technology. While serving as Navy chief he went out of his way to get to know his counterparts in the fleets of other nations. “Every time we met or talked, we got a better sense of one another,” he says. “What I really wanted to do was make sure that should something happen—some kind of miscalculation or something—I could call them up on relatively short notice. You just don’t want that to be your first call.”

Now would be a good time for the world’s military leaders to start talking to each about the risks and limitations of AI, too.

Wheeling Nailers Announce 2023-24 Schedule

The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their schedule for the 2023-24 season - the 32nd season of professional hockey in Wheeling. Home game times will remain the same, as Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday games will begin at 7:10, Sunday games will begin at 4:10, New Year's Eve will begin at 6:10, and Education Day will begin at 10:45 a.m. Fans won't have to travel far to catch the season opener, as the Nailers will start off by visiting their closest geographical opponent, the Cincinnati Cyclones, on Saturday, October 21st. The second week of the campaign will take Wheeling to Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne, and the October 27th clash will be the team's lone game at Wings Event Center in the entire season. While the teams currently play in opposite conferences, the Nailers and Reading Royals have enjoyed a memorable rivalry of over 200 games, and that is how the home docket will begin, as Wheeling will host Reading on Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, October 5th. That is part of a season-long five-game homestand, which will continue the following weekend, as the Brabham Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads will come to Nail City for the first time since 2017 for tilts on November 10th, 11th, and 12th. Other highlights in November include a morning game in Toledo on the 15th, the traditional Thanksgiving Eve game, which is also against the Walleye on the 22nd, and the lone visit of the season by the Iowa Heartlanders to close out Thanksgiving Weekend on the 25th and 26th. December will also be packed full of home matches, as Wheeling will take the ice eight times in front of the best fans in all of hockey. That is tied with November and February for the most in a month in 2023-24. Four of the five weekends that month will feature multiple home games, starting with divisional match-ups against Toledo and Kalamazoo on the 1st and 3rd. The Nailers will then get to dip their toes into Mountain Division waters again, as the Tulsa Oilers will play in Downtown Wheeling for the fourth and fifth times ever on the 9th and 10th. Indy and Cincinnati will be the last two home opponents before the holidays on the 15th and 16th, while 2023 will conclude with a two-game series against the Norfolk Admirals on December 30th and 31st. This will be the third New Year's Eve clash with the Admirals in the last five years. Sunshine will greet the Nailers as the calendar flips to 2024, as the squad will head to Orlando for a three-game series against the Solar Bears on January 5th, 6th, and 7th. The second week of January will be a significant one, as it is the only time Wheeling will be at home all month. Indy will be in for the 12th and 13th, before Kalamazoo wraps up the weekend on the 14th. The rest of January will feature series in Iowa and Reading, as well as a solo trip to Cincinnati. Indy will be the opposition for Education Day on March 19th, and Wheeling will do a lot of studying that week, as three more teams appear on the slate for that weekend - Kalamazoo on the 22nd, Fort Wayne on the 23rd, and Cincinnati on the 24th. One final swing on the road will take the Nailers through Toledo, Cincinnati, and Indy, before the team gears up for one last four-game homestand. I was 6 years old when I fell in love with playing basketball. Although growing up until six years old, I never really got to hold a basketball since I would always play with guns. One day, my childhood friends invited me to play basketball with them in the streets of where I used to live, and that was the moment I fell in love with playing basketball. I had no idea that, that moment would start everything. Even now that I am 19 years old, playing basketball is still something I love to do and is something I am deeply passionate about. I would make time to join leagues, training programs, and even play for fun with my friends, brothers, even random people I would meet in basketball courts and then eventually become friends, or even totally random people I do not even know. For some reason, all the stress and worries are temporarily forgotten when I am playing basketball.

It has always been a dream of mine to make a living out of playing basketball but because of life circumstances now, having that possible is quite difficult as of the moment but who knows? Maybe one day. Honestly, if money was not an issue, I would definitely pursue a big career related to the sport, but unfortunately, money is an issue and I have to choose a career path wherein I could sustain a good and healthy lifestyle for myself and loved ones.

As my love for basketball constantly evolves up to this day, I would like to share these 3 basketball superstars who continuously amaze and inspire me to become a better athlete.

First, Kobe Bryant. This man is proof that hard work beats talent. The respect I have for the amount of hard work he puts in playing basketball is beyond words. He is confident because he knows how much hard work he puts in as an athlete. On game days, he would arrive early in the gym and will be the last one to leave to practice after games. With this, he has great respect for teammates who share the same ethics with him, people who believe in hard work. Despite his unfortunate passing, which has been nearly three years, the admiration of people for him never fades away because of what he has done and left in the basketball industry. The man is always and forever a legend.

Second, Stephen Curry. He is a very good role player in the sport, very talented, and incredibly humble. He’s very good at listening to his coach. When teammates are down during a game, he makes the effort to constantly motivate and actually does a great job at it.

Last but not the least, Kyrie Irving. His skills in basketball are what I admire most about him. When playing basketball, you have to be able to think and make decisions quickly yet making sure that it is a great decision. Irving’s decision making amazes me with how fast he does it. The lost recut plans

Rather than just repost all old content or be a complete echo of my other posting spots, I figure I could take a small break and reveal new- or rather, unused content.

While I'm still doing a recut or retelling of The Origami King (after Mario Story Fruit Shake, of course, which is being worked on right now), I had prepared plans between 2017-2019 in case I changed my mind about not doing TOK Recut and doing it after all. I had alluded to this when TOK was first revealed with my thoughts on the first trailer, and I did consider waiting until I published TOK Retold and its EX Story. However, as it's been over two years was released, and it could be a while before Retold alone is fully published, I thought I could explain now.

So two things to explain first. One, these plans were written before certain feedback on the Mario RPG Central server in 2020, regarding CS Recut and a pal of mine's own separate recut of TOK. Therefore, some specific critiques are not amended in the initial plans for Recut 3. Second, like how CS Recut followed on certain plot elements from the fantopic Paper Mario Wonder Journey, these Recut 3 plans proposed following on from Mario Story Fruit Shake, especially certain "sensitive" plot elements. However, Mario Story Fruit Shake hasn't finished being uploaded yet, and with them those plot elements. Therefore, I will not be able to explain everything right now, and may have to skim around certain details. Just know that certain characters and plots would have returned for Recut 3's main story.

Now onto the main event.

Since these plans were written before TOK was even announced, I took an educated guess on what the theme of Modern Paper Mario 3 might be. My guesses were space, data, crafts and or some kind of printer theme. The reason was I suspected the current creative team's (lacking) mindset had deluded them into truly thinking Toads were the only friendly Mario species, and so may want Mario to leave the Mushroom World in a future game to get around that. (Funny enough, Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope would end up doing just that.) The printer theme, meanwhile, was in assumption the devs would double down on the rather unpopular literal paper world angle. In the end, we got origami, so at best, the crafts and printer idea may have been useable.

I also assumed Things would return as the be-all end-all mechanic to do pretty much anything in the game. These plans posited renaming Things to something else, and having them run off a tertiary stat to regulate use of them. I don’t think I ever got to that stage of brainstorming WHAT to call them, though. TOK itself did the really stupid thing (and not in an admirable way) of making Things bosses, and only giving one thing an actual creative design. No, I’m not taking that back- I think the Legion of Stationary was the worst move the devs could have made, rendered even more baffling by the much more creative and interesting Vellumentals, Handaconda, and especially King Olly. At the same time, though, TOK removed Things as a lock-and-key mechanic, letting the Vellumentals handle the work infinitely. (Wow- even in gameplay, the Vellumentals trounce the Legion). Along with the Legion getting redesigns for TOK Retold (except one member), the Thing idea didn’t make it into TOK Retold’s plans either.

Another gameplay change would be the return of CS Recut’s mark system, where enemies on different sides would fight each other in addition to Mario. Since TOK only had Olly as villain and there isn’t really room to add a whole other side in the main story, that idea didn’t make it into TOK Retold’s reformulated plans.

Last on the pure gameplay side would be an EX Story, like what CS Recut got in reimagining Bowser’s role. There were three candidates for it- Perry (an individualized yet composited Goomba from various Paper Mario games), Luigi, or Peach. TOK itself has no alternate playable characters, merely explaining where Luigi was before he performs certain key functions, and Peach…she was not done justice in any sense of the word in the game, despite the entire reason the game was developed the way it was stemming from a dream one of the devs had. Regardless, while TOK Retold will have an EX Story, it won’t be for those three, especially Perry (due to the fantopic intending to follow yet push back more against the restrictions). Luigi does get intermissions, though, and Peach’s role is greatly expanded at least.

Next time, I'll talk more about what was in the pre-2020 plans for Recut 3.

You wanna know what? I would pay money for a Star Wars Legends show. I would shell out my hard earned cash for something, anything, set in the original pre-disney canon. Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn and Jacen and Jaina Solo. No Rey, no Kylo Ren, no First Order, no hermit Luke, no baby Yoda, no Mandalorian, nothing since 2012. Marvel and DC don't give a shit about canon, they have multiple conflicting concurrent continuities; there are three different Spidermen (dozens if you include all the cartoons and video games), more Batmen than I can count, different incarnations for comics and TV and streaming and theaters and the straight-to-DVD bargain bin, so why can't disney let the Legends canon continue in parallel to their new stuff? They explicitly rebranded all the old stuff so they could differentiate the two universes, so why stop updating one of the universes? I don't want Legends characters reintroduced to disney canon like Thrawn was, I just want new Legends content. Please. I feel like one of those nintendo nerds begging their favorite company to let them buy and play old games, but the company won't let them, so they resort to piracy which makes the company even madder; like, if we are willing to give you money but you still won't give us what we want, you have no one to blame but yourself when we stop paying you altogether. The last Marvel movie I saw was No Way Home; before that, Far From Home in 2019; before that Homecoming in 2017, and Civil War in 2016. I've never seen Infinity War or Endgame, don't want to, probably never will. I haven't watched any of the Star Wars cartoons or streaming shows either, I've been checked out since 2019, and I don't plan on watching anything else in the future (everything I know, I pick up through osmosis from the people I follow on social media). If disney wants to pique my interest again, they'll have to start letting writers explore the original canon. Give us a Rogue One analogue with characters that people actually like and who don't all die at the end. Give us a Biggs Darklighter show that explores his life from rural farmboy to stormtrooper to rebel spy to Death Star trench run martyr. Give us an Old Wounds final fight between Obi Wan and Darth Maul that doesn't end in 2 seconds with a bloodless slash to the stomach. Give us a Sebastian Shaw force ghost Anakin giving Luke some advice before he passes on to the other side (people forget that force ghosts don't last forever; the Thrawn trilogy starts with Obi Wan saying goodbye to Luke and becoming one with the force permanently). Give us Queen Leia leading the Alderaani disapora in the aftermath of the war. Give us Mara Jade and Ben Skywalker and the Ysalamir lizards that can negate the force; that's an interesting concept, force sensitive animals who use it to hunt or hide, non-sentient force powers, passive force, because it's an energy field that surrounds and binds all living things, not just humanoids with magic bugs in their blood (I know that wasn't disney's fault, but it's still stupid). I only gave disney my money for the new Spiderman because I wanted to see Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe again (Tobey and Andrew were unexpected but pleasant surprises), but I don't watch any other MCU movies or Pixar movies or new Star Wars content; I would lift the embargo just once if they released anything new in Legends, but until then I am done with this company.

It all started 7 years ago, the 4th of June, 2015.

You came from Palermo at only 21 year old, with your cool tattoo and nickname: La Joya 💎

You took the historic #21, used by two of my favorite legends, Zidane and Pirlo.

“Happy to be part of this family! ⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️”

Thanks to you 21 still is my favorite number.

And just a couple of days later, you won your first trophy for Juve.

“How nice it is to start like this! Always ahead! Go Juve !! ⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️”

Little did we know it was the 1st of 12!

Then on 2017, you took the challenge of becoming the next #10 at Juve.

"When they asked me to change my jersey number, I stopped to think if it was right to leave the 21 that was for me a number that I care so much, that made me get up many trophies, which belonged to top players such as Zidane and Pirlo.

But the number 10 is a special jersey, it is an honor to wear it, it brings with it a sense of great responsibility, a sense of belonging to the history of a club like Juventus Fc. It has been on the shoulders of many Juventus champions: Omar Sivori, Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero, Carlos Tevez, Paul Pogba.

Bait & Switch

Spencer Reid x GN!BAU!Reader

Genre: Fluff

Warnings: None, super fluffy

Word Count: 3.5k words

Plot: Reader reveals that they’re going to buy a Nintendo Switch so Spencer invites them to go together with him. In the process, some feelings reveal themselves.

Author’s Note: My first time writing about Spencer, and actually, my first time writing a fic in a long time haha. Just imagine that this takes place in 2017, although you don’t have to know anything about the Switch in order to read this.

"What's got you in such a good mood, baby?" Derek asked, leaning over his chair. Even without looking up, you could feel the smirk that decorated his face. After almost a month at the BAU, you didn’t need to be a profiler to expect this much from Derek. "Got a date this weekend?"

You tried to focus on your paperwork before relenting, rolling your eyes. Still, you couldn't hide the smile in your voice when you shot back a reply. "With this job? You wish, Morgan."

"Give yourself some credit, beautiful. With your looks I'm sure you could score a good looking fellow for a night you won't forget."

"I'm sure you would know all about that," you replied, this time grinning from ear to ear.

Ever since you joined the BAU, your seat has always been across Derek Morgan. The guy was a terrible flirt but also one of the most trustworthy people you knew, so you couldn't keep up a sarcastic mood for long.

"Actually," you replied genuinely, "I'll be lining up this weekend to buy a Nintendo Switch." Out of the corner of your eye, you could sense Spencer stiffen in his chair next to you.

"A what switch?" Derek asked, his face scrunching up in confusion.

But before you could begin to reply him, Spencer rolled his chair over and opened his mouth. The both of you knew what was coming.

"The Nintendo Switch. A video game console developed by Japanese company Nintendo that's completely one-of-its-kind, on account of its console functioning like a tablet that can either be docked on a home console and linked to a TV, or used as a portable device with two wireless controllers so you can..."

Not being able to help yourself, you giggled at his info dump. You've always admired how much knowledge he could store in his big brain. But more importantly, you thought he was kind of cute like this. A fire would light in his eyes and it seemed like the world around him ceased to exist.

You only realised you were staring at Spencer when the last bits of his question registered in your mind. "...you going to?"

Blinking your eyes, you snapped to attention. Derek seemed to notice, because you felt his signature smirk return to his face.

"Which store are you going to?" Spencer repeated the question. Anybody else might be annoyed, but he only seemed mildly restless. A rare look for the unathletic genius.

"I'm going to the one three blocks down from here," you replied.

"So am I!" Spencer sat upright in his chair, beaming. You think that this is the most excitement he's expressed to you since you joined the BAU.

Then his confidence seemed to waver. He began tugging at the edge of his sleeve, eyes glancing to the side at nothing in particular when he asked, "W-would you like t-to go together?"

A smile spreads across your face before you can stop it. "Sure! Sounds like fun."

Spencer grinned back, and there was a moment of silence before Derek interrupted the conversation that he began. "Well, I'll leave you and lover boy to plan your date. I'm going to spend my Friday night at the bar."

Your heart thumped involuntarily at the word "date", while Derek turned to Emily. "Hey Prentiss, you want to grab a few drinks and dinner? I'm sure I can get the others to leave work for one night."

"Anything's better than this," Emily shrugged, lifting her mug of already-cold coffee.

Standing up to retrieve her bag, she smirked at you and Spencer, having heard more of the conversation than she let on. "Have a great weekend, you lovebirds. Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

She and Derek shared a laugh as they moved towards the Batcave to retrieve Garcia next.

As you watched them go, you feel Spencer's eyes on you and a flush warming your cheeks. You knew they were just teasing you with the word "date", but the truth is you've liked the genius almost as soon as you met him.

You may not have an eidetic memory, but you could still remember the flutter of butterflies that exploded in your chest when you first laid eyes on Dr. Spencer Reid.

He had waved from a comfortable distance, the other hand tucked in the pocket of his dark slacks. He towered over you easily with curly locks that barely touched his sweater vest, and you swore you've never seen anybody more attractive in your life. His intelligence only added to your attraction.

"Shall I pick you up at 7am tomorrow?"

You turned back to Spencer, who seemed even more nervous now that everybody in the bullpen had left. Yet what he was proposing was rather bold compared to his usual behaviour.

“Pick me up?” You repeated.

“It’ll be easier to find a parking spot that way, and the weather report predicts that tomorrow will be a sunny day, so I know you’d rather not walk three blocks to the store.” He rambled nervously.

“You know me well, Spencer.” A cheeky smile snuck onto your face, and in a moment of false bravado, you said what was on your mind. “7am. It’s a date, then.”

Spencer’s face turned beet red.

You didn’t wait to dwell on his reaction, dumping the last of your paperwork into a pile and picking up your bag. But as you walked to the elevator, you couldn’t help yourself from grinning ear to ear. It was a date. Kind of.

You couldn’t sleep. You had gotten home earlier than usual, but the extra time to plan for your “date” tomorrow proved to be a bad idea.

What would you wear? What would you talk about? Should you extend it to a meal, or dessert, or maybe coffee?

Although you were confident in the moment, you were beginning to regret teasing Spencer before you left. You’d known him long enough to know how he reacted to embarrassment, and there’s a good chance he might back away because of your forwardness.

You groaned, trying to get these thoughts out of your head. The reality of the "date" was sinking in now. This would be the first time that you and Spencer would be alone in a non-work setting. To say that you were nervous was a gross understatement.

But there was something worse than showing up nervous, which was showing up nervous and sleep-deprived, so you turned off your bedside lamp and tried to will yourself to sleep. That's when your phone began to buzz.

You were so on edge that the sound almost made you fall off your bed. Turning over your phone, your heart leapt to your throat.

Spencer, 2:03am: Sorry to disturb you when it's so late, but I realised I don’t have your address. Could you send it to me when you're awake?

You gulped. Just relax, just relax, you repeated in your head.

Me, 2:05am: It’s alright, you didn’t wake me up. I’ll attach my address below.

Spencer, 2:06am: Thanks. Having trouble sleeping?

Me, 2:07am: A little

Spencer, 2:08am: Me too.

What was I supposed to reply to that? You silently screamed. But it turned out you didn't have to figure it out.

Spencer, 2:11am: To be honest, I'm a little nervous about tomorrow.

Me, 2:13am: Why?

Spencer, 2:15am: I suppose it’s because we've never spent any time alone before.

Hearing the genius act so shy made you feel a little more brave.

Me, 2:16am: Well, I'm looking forward to the chance

Spencer, 2:17am: I am too.

Despite your nerves, you smiled at his small confession.

Spencer, 2:19am: We should get some sleep.

Me, 2:19am: I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night, Spence

Spencer, 2:20am: Sweet dreams.

Your anxieties were washed away and replaced with the biggest smile on your face. Without knowing it, Spencer’s words rippled a sense of calm over you, and you fell asleep shortly after.

The next morning, you woke up with a newfound clarity. You knew what you were going to wear.

Spencer couldn't stop tapping the edge of his steering wheel. He knew he was nervous, and admitting it to you last night didn't do much to stop that fact from eating away at him.

He texted you 3 minutes ago that he was waiting outside your apartment, but you hadn't replied. Although he knew that there were plenty of logical reasons why you might have missed his text, his hands didn't stop itching to call you and see if you were alright.

Then out of the corner of his eye, you emerged from the corridor and he felt his heart speed up.

You were wearing a blue flannel that he'd never seen you in before with a pair of dark jeans. Your hair, which you usually kept in a up-do at work, was let down in waves, touching your shoulders. And then there was the pièce de résistance, you were wearing a Doctor Who t-shirt with the TARDIS on it.

Hook, line, and sinker.

He didn't break his gaze on you the entire time you got into his car. Even when you beamed at him and wished him a good morning, a small yawn escaping your perfect lips, he was completely tongue-tied.

"Earth to Spencer," you called out, looking up at him curiously. "You there?"

Spencer shook his head suddenly, cursing himself internally for being such a doofus. "Sorry, uh, I was distracted. Good morning." He smiled sheepishly, tucking a stray hair strand behind his ear.

"Anyway," he cleared his throat. "I was thinking we could grab some coffee before we headed to the store? We can make it quick. I know there'll be some people already lining up."

He peeked at you rubbing your eyes and thought it was the cutest thing he's ever seen. “Looks like you might need it," he said without realising he'd just flirted with you.

You giggled, lowering your hands from your face. "Sounds great."

Spencer wasn't lying when he said it'd be quick, although in truth you could have taken all the time in the world and you would still be happy. The initial awkwardness between you washed away almost immediately as you fell into a quiet conversation about your favourite Doctor Who episodes.

You wanted to commit the sight of him driving in the morning to memory. The sun had just rose, lighting a gentle halo around Spencer’s messy hair and sculptured face. He was wearing a bigger sweater than usual, the sleeves hanging around his wrists loosely. While his eyes were focused on the road, his lips parted slightly as he softly bantered with you about David Tennant.

You felt an overwhelming urge to reach out and kiss him despite the driving hazard. And despite the fact that you’ve never kissed him, of course. But you could hope. And hope you did.

Your hope had grown when he parked in front of the coffee house you’d once mentioned was your favourite. Spencer made your coffee order perfectly and you had found yourself hoping that it was because he’d paid extra attention to you, and not because of his brilliant memory.

And when you reached the video game store and he opened the door for you, you hoped it was because he wanted to make a good impression, not only because he was a gentleman.

And when he stood between you and a video game rack in line, you hoped that he was trying to shield you from the other people in the store, and you hoped that he was thinking of pressing you against the rack and kissing the daylights out of you.

You needed to get a hold of yourself.

The conversation had swapped to the reason why you two were here in the first place, and you found yourself talking to Spencer about Breath of the Wild, a game that brought you back to fond memories of your childhood.

“The Legend of Zelda was the first video game I ever played, on the first console I ever owned.” You shared, smiling fondly. “It was the video game that my brother and I bonded over, and we bought every game together since.”

Spencer nodded in rapt. You felt him leaning closer to you, although it may have been your imagination.

“This is actually the first time I haven’t been with him for a new game,” you realised. “Due to our jobs, we haven’t seen each other in awhile, but we still text each other!” You tried to end on a lighter note, not wanting to bring the mood down on this “date”.

Spencer looked at you as if he wanted to say something, but he kept his lips shut.

“What about you? What was your first video game?” You threw the question to him, trying to divert attention away from your sad-enough story.

He blushed in response to your question and looked down at his black converse. You noticed he began touching his sleeve in a familiar motion and you looked at him suspiciously. “Spencer?”

“W-well, the t-truth is, I didn’t actually c-come here to buy a Switch, and I don’t play video games at all.“ The last part of his sentence came out rapidly. You might have missed it, if you weren’t already used to the tongue twisters he spit out on a daily basis.

“What?” You exclaimed a little too loudly, causing the other shoppers in line to glance at you weirdly. “Then... Then what are you doing here?” You said quieter this time. Your eyebrows furrowed as your mind scanned the possibilities.

“W-well, I, uh, wanted to spend time with you,” he blurted out. He raised his eyes to meet yours, his face completely red.

It was your turn to be flustered now. Your voice was quiet and you could feel your hands shaking. “Is this a date, Spencer?”

“Only if you want it to be, I mean, I want it to be but your opinion matters to me, and I wouldn’t want to bring you on a date if you didn’t want to. We can just hang out like friends if that’s more comfortable--”

You grabbed his free hand, gently lowering it from where it was moving as he rambled, until your fingers were intertwined.

“I would like it to be,” a large smile took over your face. You were a little teary despite how weird it was to confess your feelings for him in a video game store of all places.

Spencer was quiet for a moment, squeezing your hand in return. “Would you like to go for lunch after this? As a date,” he clarified this time.

"I would love that,” you beamed at him, “as a date.”

Spencer had always imagined the kind of girl he would fall in love with. Caring, intelligent, had an appreciation for classic literature, maybe. But when he saw you for the first time, every expectation he held flew out of the window.

You were beautiful. Wavy dark hair tied into a high ponytail, wearing a navy shirt, and funnily enough, a beige cardigan and black converse. Morgan joked that it was like meeting Spencer 2.0, but he disagreed: the two of you were worlds apart.

You were incredibly tech savvy, although not as much as Garcia, but certainly more than the rest. You loved the smell and taste of coffee without sugar. You were happy to hug everybody you met, from colleagues to victims. You didn’t like paperback so you read everything on a Kindle.

But the biggest difference between the two of you, was that you were emotionally intelligent.

All of your brilliance, combined with your PhD in psychology - having worked as a psychiatrist affiliated with Sex Crimes before joining the BAU - you were able to pick out the team’s moods from a single glance. It’s what endeared everyone to you immediately, and what made you such a great profiler.

But the way you treated him was different. You just, listened to him. While everyone else had gotten into the habit of cutting him off or simply ignoring him when he opened his mouth, your eyes would light up instead.

He could always tell you were listening because you would look into his eyes when he spoke, and you would ask him questions after he was done.

It made him feel like the world around him ceased to exist, except for you.

So he started studying your interests to grab your attention, trying to throw in a few jokes hoping to see you smile. It only took one month for him to seize his chance. Still, never in his calculations did he think you would say yes.

He smiled at the thought, stroking your hair gently as you cuddled on the couch together, watching you play Breath of the Wild.

After a more than successful first date, you had asked him to come over the next day to spend more time together. A month ago, he would have politely declined with an excuse like needing to read a new academic journal, but when he arrived at your doorstep he allowed himself to be drawn into your arms, relishing the giggle he earned as a reward for being hugged.

“Damn it,” you grumbled quietly as you ran out of stamina scaling a cliffside for the fifth time.

Spencer laughed. Without a second thought, he pulled you closer and kissed the top of your head.

In the background Link fell off the cliff once again, the game playing a sound that he came to recognise as Link dying. But there were no curses this time, as you had turned to look at Spencer, nothing but adoration in your eyes.

“That was our first kiss,” you said so quietly and sweetly that Spencer’s heart melted at the sound of it.

“First?” He took his chance, leaning closer. “You know, the usage of the word ‘first’ almost always implies that there will be a ‘second’ and a ‘third’ and a...”

His voice trailed off as your fingers left the controller to touch his lips. Your touch was intoxicating and he wanted more.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Spence,” you started, lifting your finger from his lips. “I didn’t mean to interrupt you-”

“Don’t be sorry,” he managed to get out in a hurry before capturing your lips in his. He felt your astonishment at first, but you quickly lost yourself in the kiss as he brought his hands up to cup the sides of your face, deepening the kiss further.

You finally broke apart after awhile, both panting for air and smiling widely. Spencer never thought he could be so lucky. “That’s the second one,” he said quietly, bringing up two fingers to indicate the number.

You looked at him with love in your eyes and abandoned your controller on the table before throwing yourself at him, flattening the two of you against your couch.

“Ready for the third?”

Derek Morgan wasn’t an idiot. That’s why he could tell that something had changed over the weekend between his desk mate and boy genius.

The two came into work together on Monday morning, which was weird in itself, but they also took every opportunity to stick to each other, from coffee breaks to disappearing for lunch and “asking” about paperwork.

When they vanished for the umpteenth time that day for coffee, Derek leaned over Emily’s desk to confirm his theory.

“It’s not just me. Pretty boy finally made a move, didn’t he?” He cocked an eyebrow.

“Definitely. Those two are so obvious that even Hotch has picked up on it. From his office.” She quipped, grinning as her eyes moved to the scene behind Derek. “Speak of the devil.”

Entering the conversation, Spencer did what he did best. “Did you know that ‘speak of the devil’ is the short form of the idiom ‘speak of the devil and he doth appear’? The phrase can be traced back to the 16th century when mentioning the devil was considered prohibited. In fact, when people were caught saying the phrase--”

Derek caught your eyes drifting to look adoringly at Spencer. He couldn’t take this anymore. “So what happened between you two last weekend, huh?” he interrupted, smirking.

Your reaction was better than he gambled. You turned a bright red and your eyes darted between Spencer and Derek in panic, truly flustered for the first time since he’s met you. But Spencer was strangely calm, his eyes travelling from his best friend to Emily in the background trying to stifle her laughter, while a small smile tugged at his lips.

“We’re dating now,” he announced to the two a little triumphantly, while rubbing your shoulder as a peaceful gesture.

Derek and Emily were stunned by their friend’s directness, only to be shocked out of it as Hotch walked by. “Finally,” he muttered, loud enough for them all to hear.

You were the first to crack a smile, then the rest followed suit with laughs and congratulations. Hearing the uproar, Garcia and JJ peeked out of their rooms, joining in and demanding more details about this new but not entirely unexpected development.

Amidst the chaos, Spencer laces his hands in yours and gives it a squeeze. For the first time in a long time, you feel unequivocally, unmistakably happy.
