frustrating how little 70's yuri is scanned and even less is translated, the english speaking yuri fans need hadashi no mei. we all need hadashi no mei
KNAPSACK MAGAZINE Volume 1: Cassette Kickstarter is LIVE!
Welcome to KNAPSACK MAGAZINE: a comics and illustration anthology from Lucky Pocket Press, featuring over 200 pages of comics, illustration, and words from 21 different artists!
Knapsack Magazine is a comics anthology that is a love letter to our collective weird kid nostalgia. Comics have been ever present through our lives, and with Knapsack Magazine we wanted to emulate our love for serialized manga publications like Shojo Beat and Shonen Jump, popularized in North America during the 90's and early 2000’s. Knapsack is meant to fit snugly in your Jansport backpack, holding precious things, ready to be a friend on your way back from school. With this anthology, we hope to evoke the nostalgia and excitement of picking up a new manga after school and being swept away into an entirely new world.
Our first volume’s theme word is Cassette! Music, mixtapes, concerts, recitals, band class, headphones, mp3 players, midi covers, Casio keyboards, peeled off labels, plastic cd cases, sheet music, homecoming dances... We asked our artists to interpret this word as closely or as loosely as they'd like, and the results are absolutely beautiful!
I was reminiscing with a friend about how we missed the classic shojou style from the 90s. I decided to draw this pair in that style. Those huge eyes are wild lol. This style in particular is me emulating the old manga series called Mars. Just a quick doodle. It was fun!
So I recently participated in a pink-themed shojo protagonist collab with some friends, and chose Sora Naegino from Kaleido Star! If you don't know the anime you should give it a try, it's really beautiful!! 😭 💖
Also please don't judge my choice for the background and font 😂 I'm no graphic designer but did my best to imitate the official art style back then lmao
