Jean-Luc Picard @SpaceDadSupport Do not deny yourself the right to be angry about injustice. Use that anger as fuel towards change, and pool that resource with others. 4:42 PM · May 12, 2024

ok so i was in the shower one time and my brain trailed off and i just started imagining what if the Enterprise got a distress signal that has been sent from the 21st century and when they look at it it's just stupid ancient meme shitpostery. like they think they've come across a really weird time-travelling anomaly and they put it on main viewer and they just get colossally rickrolled from 300 years in the past. it hasn't left my head for the past few days so now you must witness my vision
Data: Captain, it appears we are somehow receiving an unusual distress signal originating from the ancient year of 2024.
*Picard and Riker exchange looks*
Riker: 2024..? That's impossible.
Picard: Hm... Unusual indeed. Put it on main viewer.
Data: Aye sir.
and then the viewscreen activates and it's just this

listen Chakotay/Seven is bad for many reasons but it really doesn't bother me as much as it should because it's so poorly written that it just ends up feeling like both Chakotay and Seven were in love with Janeway and realized it would never work out so they just shrugged and starting dating each other. (i'm not even that much of a shipper either but like. the subtext is there for both JC and J7.) you cannot convince me that they didn't mutually break up before they even landed on Earth and then they never talked about it again.
and to add to the comedy, both Janeway and Seven know that if Voyager didn't get home then Seven and Chakotay would have gotten married and both died, etc etc while Chakotay, if i recall, just Never Learns This. Chakotay goes about the rest of his life thinking "oh yeah i went on a few dates with Seven but it never went anywhere" and then Seven and Janeway are just haunted by this alternate timeline. peak comedy tbh.

Star Trek: La Sirena Fam & what each of them would do during Greek Eastern Orthodox Easter!
Picard: he's the perfect age to go all-out greek grandfather, tbh. Gets super excited to organise a big feast on Easter Sunday, wants to live it to the fullest, plans to do the whole "roasting an entire lamb for half a day" routine.
Raffi: has no idea what all the fuss is about but hey, there's food, wine and good fun, so why not. she doesn't care but gets EXTREMELY competitive with the egg-cracking, keeps slamming her egg into everyone else's and trying to wine through brute force, ignoring the fact that there's an ✨️art✨️ to the sport.
Rios: "I'm too old for this shit", absolutely doesn't want to partake in the festivities but ends up getting roped in by Picard and made to help with roasting the lamb. At the end of the day he can be found sitting to the side and eating tsoureki (as he should). Also probably gets shitfaced before half the day is done, ends up trying to dance. There's video. Shh, don't tell him.
Agnes: loves the fireworks of Resurrection Night! Loves the candles and the lanterns!! Loves the food and drink! She's so excited to experience something new and learn about a culture she's not familiar with, she's the one taking photos of everyone, she even tried to dye the eggs herself (with a little help from Stewart; it worked!). Definitely drags a very sulky Rios out so they can watch the fireworks together and feel all romantic and sappy (he complains, but of course he secretly loves it).
Seven: crowned winner of the egg-cracking competition, Raffi is SO salty about it. Also a tsoureki fan, ends up stuffing her face with it at breakfast and doesn't want to eat anything else for the rest of the day. Started watching Jesus of Nazareth every afternoon during the week just out of boredom because Elnor and Soji tuned in, is now very invested in it, also lowkey isn't sure the kids should be watching it. Especially Elnor.
Elnor: super disturbed by how bloody, brutal and visceral some of those traditions and cultural details are, tbh. ("What do you mean Jesus died?? Again? I thought it only happened once. Ooh, he's coming back? I see... wait- why are we following his tomb around the neighbourhood? Why are the old men chanting??"). Very invested into watching Jesus of Nazareth, though Soji has to very gently explain to him that that's not Actually Jesus, just an actor (he's shocked).
Soji: very excited to learn about a new culture ! Wants to try everything, from the food to the eggs to reading up all the little tidbits, fun facts and regional traditions she can get her hands on. Wants to help Picard and the holo squad prep the food, set up the table, etc. Feels like she's part of a family celebration for the literal first time in her life!
The holos pop up at random inrervals: Emil makes sure everyone stays hydrated and that nobody accidentally sets anything (or anyone) on fire. Enoch is in charge of the music (oh, so many corny traditional greek songs... meanwhile nobody in there speaks greek). Emmet is supposed to help in the kitchen but just falls asleep, and Ian is helping Agnes take the most embarrassing (and adorable) photos of a drunk Rios & Seven
[special dedication of this post to @coffee-in-that-nebula because i feel like we're the only greek ST:P/La Sirena stans around 😂]

Me every few week: Okay, so, hear me out. I know that Q would not really do this but he could. He could be so much worse and so much more messed up and absolutely no one (aside from maybe the Continuum if they cared enough) would be able to do anything.

Jean-Luc Picard @SpaceDadSupport As a good person, you respond well to being treated kindly. You thus assume being kind to your abuser will earn you kindness in return, but that's not the case. It teaches abusers that their actions are reasonable and tolerated. You're allowed to fight back instead. Fire at will. 2:29 PM · Feb 17, 2024

Star Trek wildly flip flops between "command positions take years of training and experience and people work incredibly hard to attain them" and "lol this person has barely even set foot in a starfleet institute but they disobey the rules in a fun way so they get to be in charge of a flagship and the lives of a crew of hundreds"

I was tagged by the lovely @beammeupbroadway and @theviridianbunny--Thank you so much, bbs! 💙💙💙
Rules: Take this quiz and share 5 (or more! or less! the world is your oyster!) results from the top 50 that you feel really fit your oc(s). If you don’t recognize very many from the top 50, feel free to expand into the top 100.

The true number one is Elizabeth Burke from White Collar with an 89% match, but I've never seen that. I actually haven't seen a lot of these shows so I'm gonna probably have to extend this across the first couple hundred, lmao.
Dr. Ellie Satler (Jurassic Park) - 88%
Beverly Crusher & Geordi La Forge (Star Trek: TNG) - 88%
Linda Martin (Lucifer) - 87%
Inara Serra (Firefly/Serenity) - 85%
Belle (Beauty and the Beast) - 82%
Kim Wexler (Better Call Saul) - 82%
Triss (The Witcher) - 82%
Dr. Jennifer Melfi (The Sporanos) - 81%
Sailor Mercury (Sailor Moon) - 81%
Lagertha (Vikings) - 80%
Also, I feel like I was being mocked by this slider, haha. THOSE ARE BOTH HER COLORS.

I have no idea who's been tagged in this yet, so apologies if you've already got one: @therealnightcity, @halsin, @gamerkitten, @chevvy-yates, @baldurians, @imaginarycyberpunk2023, @maimaiapologist, @neverfadesaway, @cayennenpopsicles, and @corpocookie 💙💙💙

Ive been watching alot of enterprise recently and one of the things that strikes me, especially in the latter seasons is how focused it is on captain archers heroism. It seems like every other episode is concluded by him risking his life in a feat of daring do to save the day. It kinda has the effect of making him seem a bit more like an all american action hero rather than a starfleet captain who is a part of a cohesive crew. This is a little jarring, especially when compared with other star trek captains (who have their action hero life risking moments but they are 1 much more scarce and 2 have alot more justification beforehand) but I do think it works quite well character-wise. Archers relentless self sacrifice and die hard (the movie) approach to alot of situations really draws attention to the fact he is the first person to be the captain of the starships we know and love from other shows - and especially the fact that the role and code of behaviour of later captains has not by any means been established. It shows how he acts more on emotion than protocol because there are no protocols yet for how a captain should behave and it shows how he reacts to encountering dangerous and chaotic circumstances there are no precedence for - by putting his life on the line rather than risk anyone else, even to the point of irrationality. And this makes sense! In the tos/tng era we have things like the kobayashi maru and command simulations where you have to send a crew member into a life threatening situation, but enterprise didnt even expect to see heavy combat, they barely left space dock with weapons, there is no way archer was prepared to this extent and his actions show this. So yes, the heroism is very focus is very interesting character wise however narrative wise its fucking annoying. Making Archer the go to guy who has to jump on every grenade and has to take every bullet gets old pretty quick. For one thing it really takes the drama out of it because we know Archer will get out unscathed cos he did in every other virtual suicide attempt so far. And for another thing the self sacrifice stops feeling earned because its just a go to - and you can definitely maintain a balance between showcasing how archer is reckless with his own life and keep the emotional weight by not having it be such a frequent thing. But my main gripe is that this focus on archer saving the day absorbs so many other cool opportunities. like in immunity syndrome kirk had to choose to send spock or mccoy on a suicide mission - and also had to concede that he couldn't do it himself cos he also has similar self sacrificing herosim streak - and that could be something so cool to see on enterprise but the archer focus gets in teh way. ( i am now realising i am only midway thru season 4 so if this does happen at some point keep it to urself). And it gets in the way of so many chances to explore other characters. Travis Mayweather is criminally underutilised i want to see how he behaves in a life or death situation!!!! I already know how archer would cos ive seen it a bunch of times!!! And there are so many instances where it would have been more interesting if another character was in the grenade jumping position - like what if phlox had to test the cure for the klingon virus on hoshi instead that would have been so interesting to see cos of how close they are. I maintain that if like a 3rd or even a 5th of big captain archer hero moments had been devoted to exploring other characters or other options enterprise would be so much better. Truly society if

So I'm curious what are your thoughts on Star Trek Picard Season 3? Based on most of your tags, I get the impression that you did not enjoy it.
Tumblr media
It is what it is. held together by duct tape and threadbare storytelling and one last hallway shootout.
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug and it couldn't really save this one.
As it stands, ignoring the novels retcon, does it outperform "These are the Voyages", which also used some Enterprise-D flashbacks in it?
Oh I thought my answer was gonna be yes but I'm just.....
Tumblr media
maybe by a nose, its better than that. This season was a mess again that didn't really know what it wanted, invested heavily in tropes and wanted a shootout a minute from the looks of it. All those scenes on M'Talas Prime, wasted potential of the Changelings (oh we fixed that. we got the transporters fixed), the omission of Laris in the finale when they made sure to put her in the season premiere.
Not to mention the Borg, oh the Borg. one transwarp hub down out of six and one dead queen is all it takes apparently.
In a way the closing scene of this season's Mandalorian and Picard reflect a poor attempt to reach an endgoal by some of the worst possible means. Those closing scenes are good but unearned.
And, this goes back to TNG-era Trek, Star Trek can't envision civilian life in these models. Everyone has to join Starfleet, we cant have any main civilian characters.
After listening too to Matalas on Gates' pod I have a feeling that we're trapped in another cycle of trying to Star-Wars-ify Trek, and the Trench run sorta reinforced that.
I think that's all I got tonight.

You know the post going on about something like “oh this show would be better if so and so kissed”
WELL, if riker and picard kissed, i’m not sure how it would contribute to the plot overall, but BOY, would it both resolve and complicate SO. MANY. THINGS.
