Waiting our turns for nosework and precision coursing, and trying out weight pull.
One of my favorite things about Kermit is his willingness to try new things. He is the best. <3

I didn't go crazy with the changes, mostly I just went for what I think they were TRYING to do originally in 3D.

Somebody tell me if this is a bad take, or if my love for Bruce is causing my objective brain to glitch, but-- something about advertising Batman, a hero who's very popular for being good with children, for being NURTURING with children, a bad father kinda defeats the whole purpose of what he's supposed to represent.
Batman is a protector; He protects people the world (and especially law enforcement) does not care about. That's literally the point of him.
Something about marketing " you can be incredibly violent to people you care about! And Its fine, because you care about them even if you abuse them, and that's what matters!" towards people, but especially men and young boys, is REALLY fucked up to me.

The boys and I went to the UKC Western Classic and had a great time!
I'm incredibly proud of Kermit. I signed him up for four novice containers searches, and not only did he pass all four, he got the fastest time in one, and second-fastest time in two (we got a fault in the fourth, so had a time penalty). It was a pretty substantial class, too! I'm pretty sure he earned his Novice Containers title.
I entered him in precision coursing for the hell of it, just to see what he'd do. He disdains racing and lure coursing, but it turns out that a short, tight course is perfect for Him. I'd never run Zaku on these courses, but if Kermit likes it, we'll definitely pursue it! He had a blast running at top speed.
And lastly, my friend was competing in weight pull, and after all the small dogs had run, we borrowed the small cart and hooked Kermit up. He was very willing to pull a 75 pound cart for McDonald's hamburger. I'll have to think about whether to pursue this with his back, but he did enjoy it!
He worked super hard all weekend and was in high spirits the entire time. I couldn't ask for a better performance. So proud of Him.
Zaku stunned me with how good of a traveler he is. He was stuffed in a car with four other dogs and a three-state drive and didn't make a peep. Handled the gas stations, rest areas, hotel room, dog show, and meeting tons of people with cool aplomb. I couldn't be happier with his temperament.
In the actual show ring, he gaited and stacked well, but had a meltdown when being examined by the judge. Didn't want his balls touched. So I'm going to ask basically every single person I know to examine his balls for the foreseeable future. Just make it a fact of life. He'll get over it. He got first place/best male by being the only Belgian puppy entered.
I'm very, very happy with both boys. They exceeded all my expectations and had a great time while doing it. We'll definitely go again next year!

West Siberian Laika are not bred to pull. Yes, I do pulling sports with my dogs. Yes, they enjoy it. That doesn’t mean this is a pulling breed. If I was able to hunt year-round I probably would not do any pulling sports and might not even pack, we do that as a way to stay in shape when hunting is not possible. I have had a lot of people ask me about getting a WSL specifically for pulling sports. Some of these people want to be competitive, too. They can never give me a straight answer on why a breed developed for pulling is not a better choice. There are a lot of them to choose from. Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Alaskan Husky, Samoyed, Yakutain Laika, etc. Those are just *some* of the spitzy picks, there’s even more variety if you include draft/cart work. And yes, you can find working versions of all those, as well as crosses. If your goal is to get a dog for pulling, especially if you want to be competitive, get a dog that’s bred for that. I have worked with actual sleddogs, the desire to pull is WILDLY different between those dogs and mine.
