So I got a complaint from a client about their website today.

In brief, this client operates an online directory, in which companies within a particular industry can advertise their services.

Companies appearing in this directory have the option to voluntarily disclose which of a pre-defined list of "visible minority" identifiers apply to the company's ownership: "disabled", "LGBT", etc.

Companies appearing in this directory also have the ability to list people – typically owners or directors – associated with the company. The same visible minority identifiers which apply to companies can also voluntarily be applied to individual people listed under a company.

Today, the website's operator decided to add a new identifier to the list. I'm not sure why they chose to phrase it the way they did, or whether they just forgot that the same list of visible minority identifiers is used for both companies and persons, but the short version is that they want to know why the site's users now have the ability to designate people as "Female Owned".

Finished the Royal Centibytes, in both pre- and post-conversion flavors!

I thought court jesters would be a fun change of pace from king/queen or prince/princess- there's a precedent for royals to occasionally be things like heralds and war(?)horses, and I wanted to make a royalgirl who isn't a princess, noblewoman, or queen. I got to learn a little about some historical female court jesters while looking for references, which was cool!

I agonized for a while over whether I should put eyelashes on the one that I arbitrarily assigned 'Royalgirl', but ended up deciding that they look cute.

#i'm happy with these but i feel like the proportions got away from me a bit #i was so focused with getting clear and energetic poses that fit all the limbs in that i kind of lost their lankiness #i think its partially the struggle of working with something i designed in 2018 that doesn't fit well into a 150x150 box #the lenny is also tall and gets away with leaving a lot of negative space in its circle/happy poses while not losing clarity #but its head is less complicated to draw on a small scale; there's less detail to lose #i could try to fuck with more extreme perspectives to get things to fit without sacrificing the proportions. like g1 pokemon sprites #well. that's enough outta me #my art #centibytes #neopets #i'll update my webbed site with them in a bit; i wanna eat lunch

🍋 in which i continue to have a child's design sense and lots of fun

in this project diary 🔍: side quests ✅, abusing my local storage 💾, language accessibility struggles 🥲, mobile-friendly designs📱

progress demo: it's so basic and cute, like a stupid baby that doesn't know anything, i love her 😍

🤩 unplanned features that were more trouble than they're probably worth but i love them:

originally, i was thinking of figuring out how to read and write to a local database or CSV to keep track of the to-do list but i actually just want to keep track of at most ten things a day approximately, so why not use local storage? and boom, here we are! so much easier and relaxing as this project was meant to be ☺️

*five seconds later, i decided to make it hard again*

at first, it was just different fonts for different languages on more-or-less static elements like the heading, but i like writing my to-dos in different languages sometimes, so there i was, continuing to suffer in the name of dynamically creating and rendering HTML elements, but this is the hill i choose to die on apparently 🤷‍♀️ (worth it 😌)

reconsidering my choices📱

i understand now why websites have gotten more boring than they used to be. we can look at them on our tiny phones now 😞 i tried to play around with the layout since i can't keep my original design... but... i don't like any of my new options that much... i'm gonna bury this project and go into mourning now ⚰️

also screw figma, drawing rough ideas with my thumbs is way more fun precisely because it's so sketchy. get it? sketchy? okay, i'll see myself out 👋🙋‍♀️

💌: usually, chaos really stresses me out. whether it's school or work, i like things organized and predictable. but with this project, i didn't mind because it's just for me 🥰 code is always going to be messy and this project has helped me keep this mindset even at my 9-5. so even if i can't realize my original vision, this has already helped me so much to bring my best self to my work as an engineer again 😇

I made a simple tool to randomize faction picks in Root

It's all vanilla Javascript, so if you download its source code you can run it locally with no need for a server or a ridiculous chain of dependencies~

Hey holy shit I have a website now! Mmmmainly it is a portfolio atm, so it has all my big illustrations (still adding more) and a section for Tev/Dren comics and stuff.

I'm not going to stop updating my Tumblr or anything, this will be in addition to all my socials (which, uh, I have a Bluesky now so look up Hyperionwitch if you want in on that??), but I figure if people are trying to make Ye Olde Internet happen again with the personal sites and the webrings and the sparkly cursors and autoplaying MIDIs (jk I do not have that, I promise), I might as well join in.

I'm still adding to it (more illustrations and sketches coming, probably a commission section, probably a link to my TeePublic, maybe a cosplay section?, etc.), but it's working adequately for the moment.

Family web au designs (after their spider traits resurface.)

i finally sat down and figured out what they'd look like with their spider traits. and i kinda like how they turned out? This was not what i was originally going for when i thought of this au, but yeah.

also figured out that my boring clothes i usually draw, can look cool with the addition of random brushes i've collected, so yeah. They get neat clothes now.
