Yesterday, Sunday 25th February, a man self-immolated outside the Israeli embassy in Washington D.C. His name was Aaron Bushnell, 25 years old, a member of the US Air Force. Whilst burning, he screamed “Free Palestine” in protest against the ongoing genocide and refusing to be apart of the US Military’s complacency.
Self-immolation is a historic act of protest; during the Vietnam War, Thích Quảng Đức, a Muhayana Buddhist monk, self-immolated in protest of the persecution of Buddhist Monks by the South Vietnamese government.
We believe Aaron Bushnell’s spirit will see a Free Palestine, may his memory be a blessing and may it fuel this revolution. May his sacrifice be a call to action for those who should have ended this seige on Gaza, on Palestine, decades ago.
You can read a thread on Bushnell’s sacrificial protest here, however we must warn you in advance for disturbing details. As much as his protest is important, please don’t put yourself in mental anguish if you know you cannot manage something like this in this moment. Come back to it when you can, as his noble sacrifice should be honoured.
His passing will not be in vain.

App recommendation: Huayu101
If you're planning a trip soon or want to learn some super practical Mandarin Chinese expressions, I highly recommend the Huayu101 app from Taiwan's Ministry of Education. It provides sample sentences and questions for many useful topics.
It's only available on the Apple app store from what I can tell (looks like it was removed from the Google Play app store). But luckily, you can also find the content online at https://lmit.edu.tw/lc/huayu101/.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is a list of the topics:
Greetings 基本問候
Accommodation 住宿
Order 點餐
Shopping 購物
Transportation 交通
Asking for help 急難救助
City tour 城市遊覽
Arts and cultural activities 藝文活動
Call and reservation 電話與預約
Exchange 換鈔
Making friends 認識朋友
Hospital and post office 看病及郵寄
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After selecting a topic, you'll see a list of phrases, sentences, and questions. These are very practical things you might need to say or that a waiter, clerk, etc. might say to you.
They even have audio! To me it sounds like real people, not text to speech. Hypothetically, if you can't speak any Mandarin, you could get by by playing the audio to people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For some sentences/questions, they even provide multiple options, and you can select the word that's applicable to you.
Besides English, the app and website also support Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Bahasa Indonesia.
I think this app is helpful even for upper-intermediate/advanced learners. I know enough vocabulary to make do and be understood, but I'm lacking knowledge of how native speakers would naturally phrase things. This app helps fill those gaps.

Dian Kingdom 8th-1st C. BCE. Meant to post this one a long time ago but it took me forever to put together. I'm just going to post 30 images here, I got about 100 total on my blog. Link at bottom.
The Dian Kingdom was an advanced civilization in what is modern-day southwest China. It was occupied by the Han Dynasty and incorporated into China after that. From what I've gathered, the people of the Dian Kingdom were probably closely related to the Baiyue people from southern China and northern Vietnam. Wikipedia says they may have spoke a Tibeto-Burman language. I found it interesting that some of these people look Caucasoid though and were wearing clothing similar to Scythians. The image I compared of the Dian man to the Indo-Scythian has a similar facial structure, hat, and even the same type of pants (sorry, I don't have time to tidy up the comparison photos more).
The Dian art theme of the four tigers attacking an ox is found in the same pre-Han period among the Xiongnu at Aluchaideng, and a similar motif appears at Tillya Tepe a couple centuries later. The theme is the same but the style is very different, still it indicates a connection to these places of the world through trade and exposure.
Some of the scenes with soldiers show a variety of different equipment styles and certain subjects have distinct fashion styles (like the people wearing the items that make their ears look huge). I watched a couple documentaries on genetics of the Dian and they were only able to find genetic info for one person, who was identified as similar to the Baiyue people. I'll link those youtube videos in sources below. I assume these people were primarily related to modern day Vietnamese and southern Chinese (or other people nearby) but may have had close interactions with (and even immigrants from) Scythian cultures despite their distance from them, which is interesting.
From the videos: "According to the final count, the amount of bronze ware excavated from Lijia Mountain is almost half the amount of the Shang Dynasty bronze ware excavated in Yinxu, Henan."

If the Asian and Egyptian versions of the Cinderella story really are the oldest versions, then it's very interesting to see how the story of Cinderella has done an about-face between those early versions and the most recent adaptations.
In the Egyptian tale of Rhodopis, the Chinese tale of Ye Xian, and the Vietnamese tale of Tam and Cam (among others, I'm sure), the heroine and the king she ultimately marries don't meet before she loses her shoe. He just finds the shoe, or some other person or animal finds it and brings it to him. He determines from how small and delicate it is that it must belong to a very beautiful woman, so he resolves to find her and marry her, and he does.
These early proto-Cinderellas and their kings don't have time to fall in love before they get married, unless we assume that love at first sight takes place. The point isn't that she finds true love: the point is that she escapes from her unhappy circumstances, marries a king, and becomes a queen. It makes sense that it should be that way, since in those cultures (and most others) in ancient times, marriage was probably very rarely for love. The heroine's escape and social advancement are the central wish-fulfillment.
But as the tale travels to Europe and becomes the familiar Cinderella, it changes. The heroine and her prince (as he tends to be in European versions instead of a king) now meet at the ball or festival she attends in her magic finery. They fall in love there. The search for the girl who fits the slipper isn't just for a girl presumed to be beautiful based on the smallness and daintiness of her shoe, but a search for the girl the prince already loves yet has no other way to find.
The central wish-fulfillment changes from just "the heroine escapes from abuse and marries into royalty" to "the heroine finds true love, escapes from abuse, and marries into royalty."
Stage and screen adaptations from the 19th century onward often take this change a step further, probably both to increase the romanticism and to prevent anyone from accusing Cinderella of being a gold-digger. They have Cinderella fall in love with the prince without knowing he's a prince, and only learn his identity later. The fact that he is royalty comes across as just an added bonus for this Cinderella, who was perfectly content thinking she had found a poor but loving man.
And now, in the 2020s, a new trend has emerged in adaptations. In no less than three recent Cinderellas – Andrew Lloyd Webber's 2021 musical, the 2021 Amazon/Sony Pictures movie musical, and the 2020 storybook Sootypaws that retells the story with mice – the heroine and her prince fall in love, but they don't get married and she doesn't become royalty. On the contrary, falling in love with Cinderella makes the prince realize he doesn't want to be king after all, so he abdicates his throne, letting his convenient brother or sister reign instead, and the two lovers set out to travel the world together.
The theme of the heroine escaping from abuse is consistent. But when it comes to what else she gains, we've shifted from "the heroine marries into royalty" to "the heroine finds true love and marries into royalty," to just "the heroine finds true love," and with added emphasis on gaining freedom.
This change probably says a lot about the difference between today's Western culture and the cultures of ancient Egypt or China.

Hiii, i’ve taken an interest in reading the manga series of Crows x Worst from your masterlist. But i’ve noticed that there are sequels to it and the internet is not giving me a direct answer as to what to read first 😭 , it says Crows was the first series published but that Crowz ZERO is the prequel, pls help meeeee.
You have no idea how happy this makes me! ❤ I can absolutely help you, so let me put together a little guide for you and anyone else interested in Takahashi Hiroshi's delinquent universe. Fellow fans can always correct me or add to the list. This is just my personal recommendation. Click on the underlined titles to read it!
Crows x Worst Reading Guide
Crows: The golden classic and first chronological work featuring the Suzuran delinquent school.
Sono Go No Crows: Optional one-shot set after Crows and before Worst. You don't have to read it, but it offers a smoother transition, and you get to know some characters in advance.
Worst: Continuation to Crows, although with a new protagonist and new characters.
Saigo no Worst: Sequel, takes place one year after Worst has ended.
Side-stories/Gaidens/Other works
Crows ZERO: Prequel to Crows, although written years later. Different cast, and you won't find it online because no group has scanlated/translated it. You can watch the live action movie instead.
Crows ZERO II: Follow-up to the first part, and covers the second movie. Drawn by Tetsuhiro Hirakawa (Author of Clover, another delinquent manga I recommend).
Crows EXPLODE: Sequel to the Crows ZERO saga. Also drawn by Tetsuhiro Hirakawa, only found it translated to Vietnamese.
Crows Gaiden - Katagiri Ken Monogatari: One-shot featuring the Crows ZERO protagonist.
Crows Gaiden: Collection of short stories featuring some of the Crows characters.
Crows Gaiden: Linda Linda: Backstory of Crows character Rindaman in his middle-school years.
Harumichi: Side-story featuring Crows protagonist, Bouya Harumichi.
Next Crows Supplementary Story: Crows side-series, not translated. I have the Japanese raws if you're interested.
Worst Gaiden: Backstories for some of the characters (such as the Umehoshi brothers).
We are the Worst!: Character databook. Couldn't find it online, but I have the Japanese raw scans if you're interested.
Worst Gaiden Dokuro: Backstory of Kawachi Tesshou, only the one-shot was translated to English.
Worst Gaiden Mr. Zetton: Sequel about Zetton becoming a high-school teacher
QP: Set in the same Crows x Worst universe, but it deals with actual gangs and not high-school characters.
QP Gaiden: Collection of side-stories
Kiku: Takahashi Hiroshi's first delinquent manga predating Crows x Worst.
Jank Runk Family: Takahashi Hiroshi's newest series (ongoing), a crossover with OREN's survival manga (included it because it does have delinquent vibes).
Crows Ladies: Genderbend AU
Tumblr media
Plus a nice visual guide I found while searching online translations, it has some extra titles I haven't mentioned

Attention— Kim Minji x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Minji had one thing in common, both of you liked ice cream in winter. She’d always see you walk by the hallway near their practice room, but she never really paid attention towards you; you were just another person she saw in the halls.
But that changed ever since you introduced yourself as a member of the neighboring group ‘’Le sserafim’’ you were quite close with Hanni seeing she’d always see you talk to her in a friendly manner rather than how you spoke with her formally, but then again she never really minded it.
You’ve always been a kind-hearted person, seeing how you’ve always cared for your members and even to those people around you. Others have always thought you were an angel in disguise. That's what Minji has been hearing along with the gossip of staff around her, but then again it’s not like she cared.
Because you were close with Hanni, she always saw you every day, your voice always lingering in the back of her head or just how your laugh was loud yet contagious with your smile reaching from ear to ear, it was a dying sight to witness but for Minji it was an every day occurrence.
You both never really spoke to each other, there was nothing much to talk about anyway Minji thought. But when you do, it was always you who talked a lot while she listened to your voice. She enjoyed talking to you ramble about everything and anything to her, it was relaxing.
You’ve always said that you like her hair because it was soft to touch, so she’d always let you pat her hair every once in a while, or how you said you liked the brown cardigan she wore, so you would always see her wear it.
Minji never really took much notice of you, like how she never paid much attention to her racing heart whenever you were near her or how a light blush emerged on her cheeks when you smiled at her, but then again, she never did mind.
To her you guys were just merely mutual friends nothing much about it, but seeing you holding Hanni’s hand or a simple hug to the vietnamese girl. She wished you and her could be more than that.
She always had your number, but she never tried to call you or text you a message, she never felt the need to do so when she could just see you in the hybe building. If so, why is she always anticipating your name on her notification.
Minji liked you, but she didn't like you that much. Her actions spoke otherwise though; she loved how you held her hands when you got too excited, or how you just talked to her; Minji's heart was content with your sheer existence. Yeah, she didn't like you that much, actually she loved you more than that.
To anyone it was clear, her feelings were more than just a friend, the way she stared at you spoke in a different light, it was warm, soft and passionate. Surely enough, Hanni and others took notice of this, giving their leader a knowing look despite the confused look on Minji’s face.
They were quite fed up with Minji’s subtle and blinding advances, she herself was oblivious to her own feelings to even notice it. As much as they enjoyed teasing the leader, it was getting quite boring to see her merely admiring from afar.
It took a little push for the dominos to fall. Minji began noticing the clinginess her fellow members were giving to you whenever you visited them, it wasn't pleasing to see, for her at least.
She hated it, She hated how Hanni would stick to you like a koala on the couch. It was a movie night Hanni had invited you to watch with them, which you immediately accepted. And ever since you stepped inside the dorm she couldn't have a spare of your attention when all of it was hogged by her members.
When she finally got a chance to speak with you, someone would divert your attention away from her. It gradually irritated Minji. But she didn't realize it was all planned, she never did.
Minji was silent the whole time, her arms crossed against her chest. The bubbling annoyance waiting to erupt in her slowly showed, all it needed was one more snap it’d come out.
And it did. While Hanni was clinging to you showing no signs of personal space, it made Minji’s eye’s twitch at the sore sight. Her fist clenched tightly, her harsh glare burning at the back of Vietnamese's head, if looks could kill, Hanni would be six feet underground by now.
The final straw is when Hanni slowly made her lips way to your cheeks. Just as her lips connect to your bare cheeks Minji covers both your cheeks with her hands protecting you from Hanni’s advances.
Quite enough you were surprised at Minji’s action, while the others had a surprised look on their face, their side eyes at each other spoke differently, they knew this would happen eventually.
Minji grabbed your wrist pulling you towards her dorm room, unfazed with your confused expression. She had enough of her members always distracting you from her; she wanted your attention too. But now that your gaze is fully on her, the words she wished would come out didn't, so instead only stillness could be heard in the room. Minji didn't know silence could be so deafening.
You took a step forward to her clearly concerned at her silent state, you gently held her hands.
‘’What’s wrong?’’ you softly spoke your gaze solely focused on her, but of course she never noticed it. Not when her eyes were fixated on the polished floor looking at your hands connected to hers, it fit hers so much, everything about you fits her.
She never did pay attention to you, yet you never stopped lingering on her thoughts.
‘’I don't like you that much yn.’ Minji glanced back at your brown orbs, if the stars didn't exist it's fine she had your eyes to look at.
‘’But I love you more than that.’’
A faint squeal was heard behind the door of Minji’s room, the voice obviously belonging to Hyein, As Hanni slapped hyein’s back.
‘’Shut it, we’re gonna get caught’’ Hanni whispered harshly, Four of their heads pressed against the door eavesdropping on both of you. Even Haerin was curious about what her leader and you had going on, it's not every day they got to see an in love Minji.
On their side only silence was heard now, making them push their head further on the wooden door.
‘’Minji..’’
You’ve always thought that Minji was beautiful but unattainable, ever since you saw her across the hallway, she has been lingering in your mind. Her face was hard not to remember. And everytime you walked past their practice room, your eyes would always stare a little longer on Minji’s figure in the small windowed door of their practice room. Since then, you’ve always noticed her.
You paid so much attention to everything when it came to her, like how she furrows her brows while eating delicious foods or when the touch of her hair felt soft. Just like the brown cardigan she wore that looked a little too big for her making her even more beautiful than she already is.
You never really did have long conversations with her, but you tried your best to get to know her a little. Despite being the one always speaking, her silence and gaze gave you enough reassurance that she was listening.
You liked Minji a lot, so much that you never really did realize how much you loved her. You paid so much attention to her you never noticed your heart beating too loud, or the smile that reached your eyes whenever you saw her.
Even if she was just a friend, you wished you could be more than that.
It was nice to talk to her, even if it was just you speaking. It felt nice to hold her hands even if it was just momentarily.
You thought if love was a person, it'd be Minji. Everything about her just fits you.
You embraced her within your arms, your head hidden against the crook of neck.
Minji felt your smile against her bare skin making her shudder at the feeling. She stood in stiffness, hesitant to hold you back.
thats until you said the words, that made her embraced you back tighter with her cheeks tainted with a pink blush.
“I like you a lot, but I love you more than that too.”
You and Minji had two things in common, You both liked ice cream in winter, and each other.

hi, can you tell me where both of these bl's are from???
p.s. your post from 2022 actually came up on my dash so i thought you would be the best person to ask. Thanks in advance!!
The top one is Vietnamese BL compilation absurdest series Tien Bromance EXTRA from 2020. Hard to explain that franchise you kinda just have to watch it. But it's v odd. And no, watching the first installment will not help you understand this second one any better.
I think it's still on YT, I've never rewatched.
Second image is my BELOVED Long Time No See!
Long Time No See
Korea 2017
From Strongberry last I knew it was on Gaga.
Catfishing assassins on either side of a turf war fall in love not knowing they are on opposite sides. Or do they? Suspenseful plot, good fight sequences, mature characters, hot sexitimes and even hotter beating the shit out of each other and kissing while covered in blood (this came from KOREA?), plus an HEA. One of the greatest hidden gems of the BL genre.
I mean you could fight me on that, but then we'd have to kiss covered in blood.
Just saying.

ARIEL POOKIE i need you to tell me everything you can about emmeline because i NEED to know more about her and you are my favorite source
I heared you send someone to talk to me abt her? that's so sweet of you <33 genuinely super glad m your favourite source <333
(gonna copy what I send them bc I ain't typing all that)
for canon information:
- Emmeline Vance (d. July 1996) was a witch and a member of the first and second Order of the Phoenix. She most likely fought in several battles in both the First and Second Wizarding Wars with the Order, and was also a member of the Advance Guard.
- Emmeline was murdered by Death Eaters in early July 1996. She was considered a highly skilful witch and her death was a significant and devastating loss to the Order.
- Emmeline served as a member of the original Order of the Phoenix, an organisation constructed by Albus Dumbledore in order to oppose Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. She fought in the First Wizarding War and unlike many others ultimately survived, living well past Voldemort's first fall.
hc:
doesn't get along very well with her dad
has one older brother who is the golden child
half-blood (wizard father & muggle mother)
part Vietnamese
grew up in Vietnam until she was like 5 (has an accent when she gets very emotional)
ravenclaw (can't remember if that was canon or not)
I think she is a very loud n proud person when she's close to people, otherwise she more reserved and quiet. takes some time to get used to people but once she does not shut the fuck up. she takes her studies very serious and spends a lot of time in the library. she doesn’t sacrifice her fun tho. LOVES parties n if there is one you bet your ass she's there. she's definitely popular
was a prefect definitely and she loved looking out for the younger students. you don't have a chance to bully them if emmeline vance is around

DOLLYA HOW DO I TELL MY GF I LOVE HER IN VIETNAMESE???
ik theres the gendered/aged stuff so- Shes a year you ger than me, im a girl aswell- uh- i love her v much----
pls last time i told her Anh rất yêu con 💀💀💀
i beg- pls 🛐🛐🛐
Oh you silly~ silly silly lovers of course I will be happy to help you~
Basically, "chị yêu em~" with "chị" as how older girls usually address themselves, pretty assertive yet still feminine and like "yeah I'm the older/bigger one here". Pretty much how Corrupt Syd or Alex would sound like More can be added, like "Chị yêu em lắm lắm" - I love you vewi vewi much (yes it's cute way *puppy eyes*) or "Chị yêu em rất nhiều (very much)"
If you're not really want to emphasize on the ages, go with "Mình yêu em" with "mình" as how friends of same ages would use, but "em" still vaguely mean your girl is younger yet beloved. More to add like above. Pure Syd's word
If you want something straight out from novel, go with "Tôi yêu em". "Tôi" is the most basically "I" in vietnamese, but put on this context it, how do I say it, very strong, assertive and more force than other nouns. Imagine it's like a rich, cool and handsome CEO in expensive suits, kabedon mc to the wall and go "I love you and I will make you mine." Like how Avery or Eden would probably do, Whitney too if they're soften enough to trust and show their affection. Ye, like that.
But my personal fav is something different. There's no equivalent word for this special word in English. Yes, "love" can be translated to "yêu", but we Vietnamese have another word to say how much we love and cherish the other.
It's "Thương"
"Thương" is how you say you love and appreciate them as they are, that you understand what they've gone through, and you will be there for them to protect them. It's not just limited to romantic love but family love, siblings, friends,... as well. A very "Robin" word.
Usually we use it together with "yêu" - "thương yêu". You can use the nouns I said about and replace "yêu" with "thương" or even use them both. "Yêu thương", "thương yêu" are most suitable for today uses I think.
For example, if my (not exist) partner were to tell me "Chị thương em nhiều lắm." I would immediately feel I'm sympathized and protected and we're closer to be family to each other. That sounds pretty lengthy for a simple sentence, but that's just how gender and age and hidden meanings in Vietnamese weight our whole language down.
Or... If you want something more "corny", go with "Mình mến em" or even "Mình si mê em". It's kinda like "I fancy ya" lol. There are more extreme ways too, Kylar level even, but well-
I'm a poetry person too if I may say so, so if you want more advanced romance poetic lines, feel free to ask me again~
"Tôi yêu em, đến nay chừng có thể~"

What are your thoughts on mangrove snakes as pets? This is still for my story. The character in question starts with a Russian rat snake than a Vietnamese blue beauty. Would they be good for helping you get ready for a mangrove snake?
Mangrove snakes are advanced-level snakes, but I think the track you've set your character on here is realistic and a good one! Russian ratsnakes are generally really good first snakes; they're hardy and usually absolute sweethearts. My own Russian rat, Jojo, has never even thought about biting defensively in his entire life. Vietnamese blue beauties are a good step up into an intermediate-level snake, their care is a bit more difficult and their personalities are a lot more intense. They tend to be very defensive but not super jumpy, and their tags aren't bad, so they're a good first defensive snake. They communicate very clearly with tail rattling/hissing/open-mouthed threat displays when they're upset, so they're a good snake for learning snake body language from.
Mangrove snakes are definitely a step up, but they're especially doable if you have experience with bitey/defensive snakes like blue beauties. Their care is a little tricky - they need a big enclosure they can climb in, and they need it as humid as you can get it without their enclosure being wet. They are rear-fanged venomous (not medically significant to humans) and they tend to be very defensive, jumpy, and not at all afraid to show you what their bite feels like. They're snakes for experienced keepers who are able to confidently handle defensive snakes.
