Aerial view the slipways at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in November 1921. Ships under construction are (from center to top) USS West Virginia (BB-48), USS Constellation (CC-2), and USS lowa (BB-53). This linen sea bag belonged to Silas Butler 1778-1837 who was a purser and served aboard several vessels including the USS Constellation (1797) and was master purser at the New York Navy Yard.
