ROTTMNT:

Arms Strong Enough to Lift (Heart Soft Enough to Hold) by ASamwich. raph takes care of his family, and then his family takes care of him.

better luck next time by Somethin_Strange. heed the tags and grab some tissues. this destroyed me.

doubt comes in (and kills the lights) by paperxcrowns. the brothers are trapped, and it's up to raph to figure things out. super good and brownie points for having a hadestown title lol.

Everything I Don't Want to Be by goldenspecter. raph meets his future self and doesn't like him—at all. y'all this fic has such AMAZING characterization and really really does raph justice. it's incredible.

haunted by things i can't remember by starlight_artemis. raph still thinks about the krang. this packs a heartbreaking punch in very few words!

May we be reunited by spiromachia. raph dies first in the apocalypse. he'll wait for his brothers as long as it takes. the emotions this made me feel... AGH.

obedience by splinnters. raph's not doing okay after the krang. amazing angst!

Raphael somehow thinks being killed in a no-longer-existing future is a shameful failure that must be absolved (series) by 7thSpaceCadet. the title says it all, and BOY does it hurt.

Yes! Though it would be radically different and I haven't thought much about how exactly events would play out. Leo already got his character development, though, so someone else would be the driving force of the story. Probably Raph, or maybe Mikey?

Ooooo, actually, idea for a very Raph and Mikey centric movie plot: Mikey wants to prove himself but Raph keeps trying to protect him (because he has even more ptsd about not protecting his brothers with what happened to Leo) that they are the ones fighting in the beginning, and Raph's inability to trust Mikey is what leads to the key being stolen. And the way to win is for Raph and Mikey to reconcile their differences, with Raph acknowledging that Mikey is as strong as the rest of them and he needs to trust him, and Mikey acknowledging that his brother's help isn't meant to be a sleight but is there out of love.

I'd have to think about this a lot more to give you, like, a chain of events. I actually had a completely different answer ready for this and then thought of that while I was typing lol.

As for what I was going to say, while I'm not sure exactly how the movie events go down in Sidelined AU, I do have some idea of how it changes the bad future timeline.

By the point where the timelines diverge, Leo is recovered as fully as he ever will, able to walk around the lair most days and even go out on missions, provided he's careful and knows his limits. He still uses a range of mobility aids, given how he feels on any particular day, including the wheelchair for bad days or days where he knows he would be walking more than he could otherwise handle, but he's still relatively active.

The Krang invasion reverses a lot of this. As supplies dwindle, Leo starts suffering from malnutrition and a lack of sleep, and doesn't have access to medicine to help with the pain and fatigue, which takes a big toll on his body. Also, he really overdoes it and pushes himself too hard in the early days of the invasion, which accelerates his decline. By the time Casey is old enough to remember things, Leo is entirely wheelchair bound and doesn't often leave the base, only using his portals when he needs to to evacuate members of the resistance or help civilians.

He is still very much Master Leonardo - he's highly respected in the resistance, and anyone who wants to look down on him for his disability (or for being a turtle) either learns quickly or dies. However, he's not Casey's teacher in this timeline, instead leaving that to Raph and sometimes Donnie and Mikey. So Raph is Sensei now, and Leo is Master Leonardo or just Uncle Leo.

Leo takes over most of the care of Casey after his mom dies, since he's always at base, only sometimes sending Casey to Donnie or another adult when he's particularly busy (he's still the guy in the chair here, and also handles a lot of the day to day running of the resistance). Sometime early on, Donnie builds Leo a new chair that either hovers or has some other way of mitigating rough terrain (spider arms maybe?), and he frequently lets Casey ride on it. Even as Casey gets older, hanging off Leo's chair as they move around the base is second nature to him.

Casey was so used to Leo only being in his chair he was a little shocked on coming back to the past and seeing that Leo walks fairly frequently. He also grabbed onto Leo's chair sometimes out of habit, which made younger Leo tense up initially; something they eventually work through as they get closer.

Though all four turtles make it longer in the invasion than I usually headcanon (since I usually think of Raph as dying while CJ was too young to really remember him), they do still die, and Leo is the first to go. Casey is about 11 or 12 when this happens. When the Krang finds their base while the others are gone, Leo tells Casey he loves all of them and then portals him and the other non-combatants to safety, giving his all to hold the Krang back and give them a chance to escape. After that, Raph (who was already close to Casey anyway as his teacher and another of his uncle-dads) took over as the main adult looking out for him, and started taking him out on missions.

I'm not sure what happens next but I think it's Donnie who goes next, and then Raph and Mikey's deaths playing out the same way Leo and Mikey did in the movie. Especially since that goes with what I was saying above: Raph in the future comes to see and accept Mikey as an equal rather than someone to baby, foreshadowing what their relationship will become under happier circumstances.

During Revenge of the Spider Queen we briefly see that Sandy has a Raph doll

I have seen a few people point this moment out & it is generally considered as a kind of nice little reference to how Flying Bark worked on both shows but something that I was kind of thinking of was that it sort of makes sense for Sandy to possibly have Raph as his favourite Turtle or at the very least like Raph’s character as both of them sort of seem to fit the ‘gentle giant’ archetype.

Which kind of made me think about which Turtles might possibly be certain Monkie Kid character’s possible favourites

For Pigsy I think that his favourite Turtles could possibly be both Raph & Mikey

Raph: Here’s the plan, we smash our way in and keep smashing until we’ve smashed that armour piece right into our smashy little hands

For Raph I think that Pigsy might possibly enjoy the ‘smash first, ask questions later’ attitude that Raph can sometimes have as Pigsy seems to sometimes like to display himself as a sort of ‘tough guy’

Mikey: Trust me one satisfying dish is all we need to win this challenge

Pigsy: I told ya MK, good food takes time

Considering both Mikey & Pigsy are chefs I think that Pigsy might possibly like Mikey as a character due to Mikey’s respect & passion for the culinary arts. I also think that Mikey might remind Pigsy a bit of MK due to their optimism which might possibly be something that endears Pigsy towards Mikey’s character

For Tang I think that his favourite Turtles could possibly be both Mikey & Leo, similarly to Pigsy I think Tang might enjoy Mikey’s character due to Mikey possibly reminding him of MK but I also think Tang might enjoy Leo’s character due to the fact that Tang seems to love stories

Tang: It’s not a diary, I’m writing the next chapter

We’re shown that Tang seems to enjoy stories as shown by his love for JTTW so the fact that Rise Leo’s character is arguably designed to evolve over time might possibly appeal to Tang, it might be possible that Tang would enjoy watching Leo grow & reach his potential as a leader over time.

For Red Son, I think that it might be possible that Red Son’s favourite Turtle would be Donnie due to the fact that they are both inventors.

MK: Come on! Where did you get that?

Red Son: What? You think I drive anything that doesn’t have at least one complex transformation?

Raph: Why are there only two?

Donnie: I’m afraid I have not gotten around to making the rest, maybe they’ll come out during the holiday season, so you’ll know they’re special!

For Mei I think that her favourite Turtles could possibly be both Donnie & Leo, for Leo I think Mei might primarily possibly like the fact that they both use swords & are protective of their loved one and for Donnie I think that Mei might possibly like the fact that they are both technologically minded as Mei enjoys getting new pieces of tech throughout the show.

Mei: I even got a sweet new jet!

Another reason that Mei might possibly have Donnie as one of her favourite Turtles is that Purple Dragon episodes are arguably mostly Donnie centric episodes & Mei might enjoy their dragon motif.

For MK, I think the Turtle that might possibly be his favourite might possibly be Mikey as Mikey might be the Turtle that MK relates to the most as they both try to stay optimistic & keep their loved ones together.

MK might also possibly relate to Mikey in how they both seem to have strong mystic powers which they both need to learn how to master & control.

For SWK while I think he might possibly claim he doesn’t have a favourite Turtle I think SWK might possibly relate to Leo the most.

SWK: You know this is kind of easier than I thought it would be

Leo: What I can’t make a joke in the middle of the craziest thing ever? That’s how I cope

SWK might possibly relate to Leo’s character as their are a few similarities between the two such as the fact that they both seem to use humour as a coping mechanism during stressful situations, as well as the fact that they both seem to be protective of those that they care about.

However what I think SWK might relate to the most about Leo is them both possibly feeling responsible for people they care about getting hurt or being put in danger.

Some parallels could possibly be made between Leo loosing the Key & a piece of The Samadhi Fire getting away from SWK when trying to seal it.

I’m not really sure if SWK seeing himself in Leo would possibly make Leo his favourite Turtle but I do think that SWK might possibly find himself relating to Leo on occasion.

this boy here is a space heroes fan (a super fan), and he's very open about it, so it would be no surprise that he'd be open to being a fan of your show.

he would binge watch the episodes that have you in it, or a you-centric episode constantly or whenever he's feeling down or demotivated.

no matter if it's an action series or a slice-of life series, you inspire him to become a better leader and example to his brothers.

you know that random feeling of motivation when you watch a study vlog or anything inspiring? he'd get that random burst of motivation to train while watching some episodes (in secret, of course).

his brothers, mainly raph, tease him for liking your show and talk about how childish it is(when in reality, they think its a decent series to watch).

no doubt this boy secretly makes 'x reader' fanfiction.

even if you're a side character or comdic relief, he still enjoys the scenes you're in and hyper analyze your traits and makes headcannons.

he'd sometimes use the episodes where there'd be mental health awareness as a guide to look out for signs in his brothers and friends so he can make sure they're okay ♡

he'll rant about your charcater the moment he hears anything related to you(or his headcannons), for example: your favorite colour, a word/phrase you use often, the style of clothing you wear etc.

[Donnie]

he is obsessed with your character.

considering with how obsessed he got with april (within seasons 1-3, i think), he'd have a chart or a notebook dedicated to you.

like, he'd have one whole notebook or chart listing the things you like, dislike, in between, headcannons, things the fandom agrees with, your style, etc.

he can't go about his day without thinking what you would do with him if you were real.

he loves your sass, jokes, and character development in the series (even if most watchers dont see the development at all).

this guy will drop everything at a second he sees merch of your character or a new season release.

he definitely thinks you're underrated in your own show and relates to some of the episodes a bit.

he definitely stayed up late to binge watch episodes instead of working on projects that can help them defeat the kraang.

if you can speak languages other than english, he'd go out of his way to learn said language because of you.

if you dont speak other languages, then he would try out (and love) your hobbies that he found boring at first.

[Raph]

casey had introduced your show to him and he'd rather die than admit that he liked it.

he'd secretly quote some of your underrated lines, and no one would notice (to his relief).

like leo, he'd get random bursts of motivation watching the episodes you're in.

he actually watches the whole series instead of skipping to the part you're in.

he enjoys the plot and your character, and he'd get giddy whenever he sees your character merch or your show's poster if he's patrolling.

he develops some of your habits yet no one pointed it out, until casey.

casey knew raph liked the show, and he'd never stopped teasing raph about it, occasionally ending up with bruises.

thankfully, casey keeps quiet about it.

he doesn't do things all out like donnie but enjoys your character.

his anger issues actually decrease when watching your show

he reacts very heavily to some of the plots like some arguments you had in the show, a betrayal by your trusted ones, you falling in love

like he'll want to scream at each of them(in a good and bad way)

this man is obsessed.

any reference from your show, he's ranting to the first person he sees (leo is often a victim of this).

he doodles ur character on whatever space he can find. walls, tables, donnie's papers, receipts from april. that's right, he's doodling u

he daydreams. literally.

he'll create little fantasies (no nsfw stuff tho, that's gross) like what it'll be like when ur here in the real world or when u try his homemade pizza for the first time.

like raph, he is bound to squeal or grin whenever there are funny scenes

i feel like he's the type to go crazy whenever a single thought of u or ur show comes to his mind. he's on another level of hyper fixated

After Leo dies, Donnie builds an android of his twin. After Leo dies, he comes back. He does. And Donnie will not ever let him go again.

Dimensions Apart & Home Again

"Who said I'm hiding?" Leo scoffs. Normally he wouldn't take such a sharp tone, but he's tired and not in the mood for what he feels to be an interrogation in his own bedroom. "You all know where I am. I live here, remember?" “Yeah, very funny. And you know where we live. But nobody's seen you for two weeks.”

ooohhh post movie hurt/comfort my beloved... leo is isolating and donnie kicks his ass. metaphorically. mostly. meanwhile raph and mikey are also having a certified Bad Time but it's okay they all get comfort by the end

Havoc, Thy Name is Donnie

Donnie accidentally turns himself into a child while experimenting with mystic power. It's cute until Donnie gets his hands on his older self's tech and then it's really uncute and Leo and S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. are having a heart attack.

child donnie is an absolute MENACE and it's INCREDIBLE. terrorizes leo. terrorizes shelldon. terrorizes some random criminals. terrorizes april. terrorizes draxum. all in the course of a single day. 12/10

how to get very good at juggling (@radishhqueen)

The Krang invasion put a couple of things in perspective for April. One of them was how much she wanted her parents to meet the Hamatos. The only difficult part is…getting her parents to meet the Hamatos.

Leo's mind rebelled against the sensation. The heaviness burst into awareness, body, limbs, lungs, blinking. The middle distance he'd apparently been staring in focused. Leo was awake. Leo was aware. Leo was alive. Being alive wasn't something he thought he'd be.

genuinely don't think i could ever recommend this fic enough. mind the warnings as it does get very heavy but. god. idk how to express how much this fic means to me in just a few sentences but like. you'll understand if you read it (also for. an actual summary: post movie recovery fic with a side of extra leo)

Nothing Haunts Us (like the things we don't say)

The boys learn the hard way that truths can hurt. Well, some of them.

truth spellllll you love to see it! lotta post movie angst + some good comfort at the end + bonus the boys actually being emotionally vulnerable and talking about their issues (even if it's not 100% by choice)

Leo ends up in the past. This changes some things.

YES the healing (well. eventually).... big fan of the leos' dynamic in this one. also that One Scene (the one with the animatic. if you know you know) gives me goosebumps EVERY time good god

Unfinished business

When one dies leaving something undone, there's a belief, that they do not go gentle into that good night. They linger on until they've finished what they couldn't while alive. And for four turtles, that business is using the Poltergeist movie as inspiration.

bad future ending but make it HILARIOUS. tldr the future turtles haunt the SHIT out of the krang. that's all i'm giving you because that's all you should need. they fucking rick roll them. please

Where in the World is Neon Leon?

Leo practices portalling on his own. This is not a good idea for many, many reasons.

set over the course of the show + the movie! aka leo trying so so hard to be seen as reliable and getting incredibly fucked up over it. also making new friends

it’s as he drifts listlessly through the cold-as-shit hellscape that leo’s willing to admit, maybe this wasn’t what raph meant. aka: i do not believe for one second that there were No Problems in between getting leo out of the prison dimension and the final scene of the movie.

i genuinely do not know how to do this one justice with words. it's written impeccably and the hurt/comfort is just. chefs kiss. please read it (+ has a sequel now that's also absolutely incredible!)

ROTTMNT Fanfic Recommendations

Light

You Coveted This Prison by CaveDwellers (April / Donatello - Comedy / Character Study - WIP) THE April O'Neil character study. One part excruciating (for reader and supporting cast) slow burn romance, one part introspection on being true to oneself. Rated M but only for one chapter, which can be skipped. Riddled with laugh-out-loud comedy shenanigans and heartachingly tender intimacy. Hot takes all over the place because the author wrote this with very little fandom involvement, and intentionaly chose to be contrarian in as many ways as possible. April takes down her arch-rival! Raph locks her in a freezer! Casey Junior's keeping secrets! Donatello's wall of horrible fake sciencey souveniers keeps growing and it may or may not be a sign of affection -- he's going to crunch the numbers on that. An absolute blast of a fic, cannot recommend enough.

Tried To Grow Up Good by Sroloc_Elbisivni (No romantic focus - Character Study - Complete)

THE Casey Jones post-movie character study. Love is stored in the found family. Casey is an accidental felon. He and Cassandra are siblings now. Anatawa hitorijaNAI let's get the entire two timeline fam in here for a reunion so I can sob myself silly. Perfection. This author's constantly pumping out new fics, and often updating multiple at a time; I've read through and greatly enjoyed Tomato Maze (there is so much serotonin in the knowledge that these idiot turtle boys will do anything for watermelon), Sorrow Is An Autumn Heart (Leo/Usagi but make it a slowburn thriller-drama set in historical Japan), and The Passionate Pools of Salamandria (a post-movie Raph/Mona bodice-ripper with an amnesiac protagonist and a B-plot where the rest of the family fight space to find their missing brother). Honestly this author has the WILDEST takes and everything they write is fascinating.

Give Me Something That’ll Haunt Me When You’re Not Around by Taizi (Leonardo / Yuichi - Drama / Romance - Complete)

If you've decided you're finally gonna take a dive into the leosagi crossover ship and see what all the fuss is about, do it with this fic. The author has a strong grasp on how to make a character study about characters first and relationships second, and in doing so has crafted one of THE most tender romance stories I've ever read. Starts as a character study on Yuichi Usagi and the yokai perspective on the Kraang invasion, branches into an exploration of PTSD and what it means to recover, and ends with a friends-to-lovers quickburn that says, "because of you I'm learning to love myself." Leo gets a therapy dinosaur. Yuichi gets out of his head. The character nuance and showing-not-telling is godtier. Healing starts with telling the alien invaders to go fuck themselves. Do not pass this fic up, I promise you it's worth the read. It legitimately made me cry.

The Old College Try by Theashemarie (No romantic focus - Action / Drama - WIP)

Donatello cloaks himself human to go to college, and drags his twin brother along. This fic masquerades as a fun, comedy-heavy action adventure story, but under the surface is a really fascinating introspection on what it means to hide your true self in order to fit in. The queer subtext is off the charts! Leo babysits Baxter Stockboy. Mikey gets eaten by a bird. One of the grad certificates is definitely going to be made out to to the wrong Hamato entirely. This fic features an autistic writer writing an autistic character, and their personal experience shines through in the excellent way Donnie's awkwardness and affection are balanced. This author knows nuance; I also highly recommend The Hibernator (apocalyptic timeline and Raph's dead........ wink) and Very Thoughtful (a Donnie-centric low empathy study).

Aftermath by Bronte (No romantic focus - Drama - Complete)

The boys deal with the aftermath of the movie events in whatever ways they can. Donnie gets into pina coladas. Leo harasses his brother. Look at these disaster twins bonding! There's a flippancy to all the angst that keeps these lighthearted and love-focused without skipping the rough details. I'm literally never going to recover from the belly bongos scene and will probably end up making art about it. Fantastic read, made me viscerally emotional.

At The Bottom Of A Duck-Shaped Crater by CaveDwellers (April / Donatello - Drama / Comedy - Complete) One part worldbuilding for the apocalyptic timeline and one part heartfelt comedy from the perspective of Miyamoto Usagi. Leonardo adopts a babysitter. Casey Junior saves the war effort from collapsing under a dick-measuring competition. April may or may not be about to kill a man. CaveDwellers is among my favourite writers for several reasons, but this fic really highlights her strength in blending several different kinds of relationships in one story and building a plot that delivers achey-breaky sentiments without having to structure everything around romance. (We're also developing projects together; keep an eye out for the "next in series" button at the bottom of the AO3 page for soft apocalyptic stories of a similar nature!)

Superfight by Swordfright (No romantic focus - Drama / Comedy - Complete)

An easy-reading one shot! Leo comes to terms with being a teenager, Donnie calls his disability out for what it is, and everybody plays Superfight the card game. The author writes in a very Douglas Adams-y style, resulting in a wheezing-on-the-floor-funny reading experience. If you're burnt out on fandom angst and need a pick-me-up, this is 900% the fic for you. It got me cry-laughing with just the quick refresher glance I gave it to put this recommendation together.

Now That's What I Call A Vacation! by WayWardWatson (No romantic focus (?) - Adventure / Crossover - WIP)

This fic's a multi-feature! It's one part infodump about Japan's culture and tourist hotspots, one part study on what it means to cloak your identity to fit into the world, and one part surprise crossover with Usagi Yojimbo. I am OBSESSED with this author's takes on Splinter as a character; several chapters are dedicated to exploring his fixation on being "human again" and trying to juggle the life he once had as a star with the life he now has as a parent of mutants. Primarily this is a feel good adventure story about the Hamato brothers getting in touch with their heritage, but it comes in swinging with several different action/adventure plot points and drama beats to keep a reader invested. Legitimately have no idea where the author's taking things, which makes me all the more excited for the ride!

One Step Forward, Fall Forever Back by GriffinStone (No romantic focus - Action / Mystery - Complete)

This fic is one of those slight universe alteration stories that takes a one-off thought and runs with it: what if Casey Junior died on his way through the time rift, spawned into the past as a ghost, and Leo was the only person who could see him? Promise the execution is way less daunting than it sounds -- events move along at a breezy pace and characters never spend very long lamenting the whole dead boy situation. The final battle alone is so chocked full of found family ride-or-die energy between the two protagonists that it's worth the rest of the adventure playing out pretty similarly to the movie. Definitely a treat for those of you who are big on Leo-Casey interactions.

A Mixed Bag by MusingWordsmith (No romantic focus - Action / Comedy - WIP)

What if I told you there was a fic where the turtles of every major tv show TMNT iteration shonen anime-style battled their way through challenges in mixed teams of four in order to defeat a team of evil overlords who may or may not know what they're doing re: evillness? Trust me when I say this story is fun -- it blends comedy and drama flawlessly, and the author totally committed to the bit in keeping each version of the turtles loyal to the genre of their individual canons. The 1987 turtles are breaking the fourth wall. The Rise kids are absolute supersoliders. 2003 Michelangelo somehow ended up as the babysitter of his particular faction and is kind of having a crisis about it. I am so beyond impressed at how well this author distinguishes each character and keeps who's who from getting too confusing, which is a common issue in TMNT crossovers. Reading this fic feels like watching literally any version of the show as a kid on a Saturday morning. It is a blast.

Medium

Young Root, Old Rock by SiryyGrey (No romantic focus - Action / Thriller - WIP)

Shortly after the Kraang invasion a mysterious file of an unreadable format shows up on Donnie's computer, and he's driven by an intense curiosity to decipher exactly what it is and means. This author goes HARD on creating tense, muscle-tensing atmosphere, which is balanced out by extremely tender character interaction. Casey knows something he's not letting on. Donnie makes himself a robo-brain. Leo blows up his brother. You ever wanted an adventure with the blorbos that was also an ARG? Cryptic messages are sprinkled throughout the chapters for readers to decipher. Mind the tags but absolutely do not pass this fic up!

No Rest For The Weary by Nekotsuki (No romantic focus - Action / Adventure - WIP)

Ever thought "hey what if the movie just kept going and we found out what happened to those other kraang"? Hello and let me introduce you to THE post-movie out of frying pan and into the fire fic. I have it on good authority that this author was a big name in the 2003 TMNT fic scene, and I suspect for good reason -- this story perfectly blends heart-pounding action with A+ belly laughs and solid found family energy. Donnie hacks cute animal emails and narcs on the enemy. April fights zombies back to back with Barold Draxum of downstairs neighbour fame. Raph gets tranquilizer-darted by his brother for being too emotional. 100/10 wild ride, cannot recommend highly enough.

I May Be Invisible, But I Still Look Good by Dandy (No romantic focus - Adventure / Thriller - WIP)

Several TMNT AU competitions have made this fic a household name, and for good reason -- the author's come onto the scene with a bold, fun plot premise: after a battle gone wrong, Leo finds himself alive but unable to be perceived via sight, sound, or touch. Naturally, his family assumes he's dead. While it starts on the angstier side, this story's got a lot of heart and shoves tenderness into every possible crevice; the longer it goes on, the more tears are swapped out for laughter, and anguished dialogue-heavy interaction trades place with high-octane action. Worth sticking with!

Creation, Haunted And Holy by Greenglowsgold (No romantic focus - Drama / Thriller - Complete)

I lied about the romance it's Donnie x Technodrome with a twist. This fic reads like fascinating poetry, and does right by its source material by taking one of the fandom's favourite angst catalysts and turning it into a demonstration of the strength of love. Looking for something wildly different? GGG's got you. Would also highly recommend their outside-POV slice of life fic Midtown Mutants!

Dark

The Lemonade Leak by TurtleSoupSwimmer (No romantic focus - Horror / Thriller - WIP)

How do you explain to your family that your twin brother's possessed when you have no evidence, aren't sure if said brother is still alive somewhere inside the zombie, and revealing you know something's wrong could get everybody killed? There is no describing how completely feral I've gone for this fic - the author's technique of starting chapters with small, raw, seemingly unrelated scenes that segue into the current plot and enhance the tone or underlying message of the story is just incredible. They've given the turtles a fascinating mutation feature that adds layers of intrigue to the plot. The character interaction is heckin' tender, we got a nice scoop of self-worth issues from Leo to deal with, and the scary scenes are grip-your-phone-and-stop-blinking scary. The author promises a happy ending but that doesn't make Lemonade Leak any less of an incredibly tense ride. This is a fic I jump on the second I get the AO3 email notification.

The Smoking Gun: A ROTTMNT Tactical AU by AlienMadame22 (Donatello / April - Action / Adventure - Complete)

Agent Bishop of the EPF stole four turtle mutants away from their father as children and raised them as militia; dad's gotten back in contact and intends to break them free. This author absolutely took off running with the tactical AU prompt that various visual artists started up, grabbed a handful of canon concepts to mess around with, and mcguyvered together a wild ride of a story that continues to catch me off guard. Strap in for a fic riddled with emotional complexity and character nuance, and come prepared to cry. Fear not the ship tag, as the fic is primarily non-romance-focused and the ship elements are handled in an interesting, convoluted way that works to further the plot and add comedic value. Smoking Gun is a refreshing new concept in a very busy fandom tag and I have been eating it up like candy.

The Dawning of the Hour (Series) by Faiakishi (No romantic focus - Horror / Drama - WIP)

Donnie is captured and brainwashed by a pre-Vegeta-arc'd Baron Draxum, who subsequently starts parenting the kid out of guilt while using his talents to fuel the canonical Mutate All Humans takeover plot. It's been often called the Donatello version of Like Father Like Son, but that does its storytelling a disservice - this series goes much deeper in the psychological and physical horror direction, has an underlying political intrigue plot, and spends a generous amount of time with the secondary cast (plus a few excellent OCs) in order to really ramp up the intensity of the premise's whole situation. The first story is very whump-heavy, but does a lot of setup for fic two: The Drax-Daddening, which gives Donnie a friend in Cassandra Jones and finds more space for affection and comedy. The author's ramped up the sources of conflict several times over in the first few chapters of the series' second fic, making rescue by the Hamato feel ever more impossible. Despite being a very complex and interesting read (grey-morality my beloved) I cannot stress enough how VERY not for kids this fic is, so proceed with extreme caution!

List of Random ROTTMNT headcanons/ rando ideas

Raph and Donnie duo! Pt.1 Because I love these two in Rottmnt and they need mire moments I-

Raph has dubbed their little duo “Jam Bros”. His thought process? Red and Purple, Cherry and Grape. Jam. Jam Bros! At first Donnie was against it, but it grew on him over time.

With Mikey wanting to be considered a big boy now, Raph has turned to calling Donnie his baby brother. Donnie would sooner die than admit he loves it.

Raph knows Donnie is very touch repulsed, and likes to be the one initiating and sort of physical contact, so he’ll orbit around Donnie and let him come to him.

Donnie, as a young turtle tot, felt safest around Raph (Raph rasied them as tots for the most part because Splinter was depresso you can pry this headcanon from my cold dead hands-) and always clung to him more than the others.

Once as turtle tots food ran out in the lair, and Splinter refused to go out for more because he had food stored away for himself. A few days in and Leo had had enough, sneaking off with Mikey to get food from the surface, leaving Raph and Donnie alone. Raph spent that time comforting a hungry delirious Donnie who was insisting Raph and the others just eat him. They did not eat him. They ate a totally not stolen pizza.

After stressful all nighters Donnie likes to sneak into Raph’s room and pancake on his bed under his stuffed animals. The calming Raph smell knocks him out. Raph knows when he enters his room and sees Donnie pancaked on his bed, the bed is no longer his. He will have to sleep on the floor. He legally can’t disturb the pancake. But occasionally he will set up his basking lamp over the bed for Don. Raph usually gets extra hugs afterwards.

Raph was once perusing the interwebs and found an alligator snapping turtle live feeding video. Out of curiosity he watched it. All was good until the owner of the turtle dropped a baby spiny softshell turtle in the tank to be eaten. Raph avoided Donnie for a week after witnessing that, until Donnie cornered him for answers. Raph broke down sobbing and saying he didn’t want to eat him. Don was confused until Raph showed him the video. Donnie rolled his eyes at the ridiculousness of the situation and told Raph to open his mouth. When he did Donnie put his neck right in there, terrifying Raph. But after a few minutes he got what Don was doing. If there was really a chance he’d eat him, then he would’ve done it right then and there. It was reassuring, and a bit unnerving.

Raph once woke up to find Donnie had pancaked on top of him. He managed to text his brothers and let them know he legally couldn’t move and sent pics.

Donnie modelled his first ever battle shell after Raph’s shell. He still has it stored away somewhere.

Donnie once woke up to find Raph cuddling him. Don was no fool, he knew his fate. He messaged his brothers to let them know his tragic fate and then went right back to sleep.

Hm idea for A Raph and Donnie centric episode! (Or fanfic in my case ;3)! The duo wake up and find that they’ve been captured by the Purple Dragons and placed in a sort of Escape room type building, separated but given a communicator to talk to each other. The goal? Escape. The catch? Raph has special cuffs on that weigh him down so much he can’t punch his way to freedom. Meanwhile Donnie has a shock collar on that activates the second he tried to think his way out. So the two must work together, Raph having to rely on his brain to save the two of them while Donnie has to rely on his physical advantages.

I see a lot of angst about Donnie’s first soft shell ouchie being Raph’s fault or indirectly Raph’s fault. But like lets be real. Splinter definitely gave Raphael a long serious talk about how delicate Donnie was. Raph treated him like he was more breakable then glass. To the point where it was overbearing and Donnie was constantly smothered with protection. One day Don had enough and climbed up the onto the highest surface, the fridge, and explained to Raph that he needed to tone down on the overprotectiveness or he wouldn’t come down. Raph agreed, and Don climbed on down only to loose his grip and fall right onto his shell. Raph took back his agreement and babied Donnie until he was ten.

I love the concept canceled movie of Mikey becoming a foot solider it kind of makes me wonder how they would have went about setting Mikey up to be a foot solider though I know the context was that he felt unloved but like becoming a foot solider because of that is a really big thing because he's putting himself in the enemy position of his family not only that but he's apart of a league that's owned by Shredders Daughter Karai like that movie better better have heartfelt moments if were to be made than again I can see where they were going with this with how they sat up Leo in the first movie he doesn't return Mikey's hug but he does hug Donnie Raph also doesn't bother notifying Mikey that Leo's back which is really subtle building on Mikey's future feelings because they maybe small they still set up that nagging part that could be pushed and developed.

i will always mourn the fact that we never had this movie actually, because it would have shown a facet of mikey never seen before where he willingly ditches his family to join their lifelong enemy. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO INTERESTING.

Also specifically because while i can see the family slowly driving mikey away from them, there's one specific brother who would truly be completely destroyed by that: Donnie

in the movie donnie and mikey are literally inseparable, they are never not one moment away from each other, be it in a literal sense and in the non literal sense (they were always in a call with each other even when mikey was was out of the lair). So it kinda makes me wonder how they also would have had dug deeper the fact that mikey somehow felt like he lost donnie's support in the sequel? the one brother that refused to leave him?? I feel like it would have hurt a Lot.

Also taking into account that is mikey the one we are talking about, he loves his family and his family is the most important thing (this is a fact about all the brothers tbh but . ITS MIKEY...)

it would also have been really angsty because in the prequel comic we see that donnie manages to make an active tracker of sorts that doesn't need any other extra devices to track it's target, and i feel they would have incorporated that fixed tracker in the movie somehow. Maybe when he tracks for mikey after being too worried about him and finding out hes in foot clan area or smt and the family getting ambushed and demutated when trying to "save" him and oh how mikey would blame himself for it all...

Though i feel like the part of mikey joining the foot in 2007 is truly not so far fetched. In the movie karai is actually honorable and the foot clan, in this iteration at least, truly feels like the most trustworthy. Karai and her ninjas (because she is their leader here) actually helped the brothers and fought alongside them, so mikey was probably lured by this sense of trust theyve built up in their last encounter and would continue to feel safe with them until he realizes they were using him. Which, again, would have been very interesting to see.

The fact that we never got this mikey centric movie will always be a sad loss because of how mikey was actually going to prove himself by saving his family all by himself
