honestly if I were ever to throw the Suitehearts into any of my Killjoys stuff the dynamic would literally be the stupidest thing in the world. you do not want to have the Four and those guys together in any setting. it's a recipe for disaster. Jet and Benzedrine bitch and bicker like old ladies. telepathic warfare is waged via a complex language of glares and eyebrow movements between everyone in the room. Sandman makes a wholeheartedly joking comment to Ghoul like "I want to study you in a lab" and Kobra Kid gives him a black eye on the spot. Crab and Donnie end up playing hide n seek with the Girl until someone else who isn't aware of the game accidentally dumps a whole dude out of their hiding spot on accident and then gets elbowed for it. everyone hates each other but they're also kind of pals in the way that people who occasionally help each other out but don't see each other outside of that can be. that kind of thing

Okay so I finally caved and started watching the next mutation. Yes. The 5th secret show no one talks about (for good reason, gods I hope Im reading into a certain relationship wrong)

However as bad as it is, it has some good moments. And one of them is Mikey saying "do I wanna meet the nypd? Hmm. Absolutely not" no hesitation and it almost made it worth it

donnie had. SO. much concept art lol. i really enjoyed the whole design process though. his base design is very difficult to work with because of the battleshell, but it gave me a lot of chances to get creative and i'm happy with the results :)

(also as a disclaimer so i don't get asked about this: i don't have motivation to finish raph or the wish art for donnie, so i'm just posting what i've got)

i didn't annotate these as much since there'd be a lot to write, but i'll write out some of my thought processes and go into some detail about his final design below the cut if you're interested! (it's long. i'm talkative 😔)

1st row - first iteration; much more literal 1:1 translation of his design into a fantasy setting. very steampunk-y. ended up completely scrapping it because, simply put, he looked more like an npc than a playable character. obviously, several features did still carry over throughout the design process :3 also wanted to imagine his attack pattern cuz i thought it'd be fun to incorporate his spider arms.

this was actually the first design of any of them i'd come up with! i've definitely learned a lot about genshin's character design style since then and i think it shows 😂

2nd row - playing around with the idea of a floating battleshell (rather than a backpack-like one in the the show & first version), inspired by nahida's cape. also hard light constructs/attachments. was leaning too into the sci-fi and rectangular motifs with the design, but i liked the idea.

3rd/4rth rows - concepts for his final outfit and shell designs (the colored/more-detailed pics are the more finalized ones). took a lot of inspiration from sumeru this time around. it's a lot sharper, shinier, and less rectangular than his og aesthetic, but i think it's more in-line with genshin's design philosophies.

5th row - not entirely sure why i went through all the trouble of making a 3d model for this. i mostly just thought it'd be fun and good for reference. i was right, but i don't know what to do with it now lol. can't be bothered to be a perfectionist about it though, so don't look too closely at it 😭

6th row - incomplete thumbnails of his burst/wish art. not super sold on that "wing" design in particular, but i do like the idea of his shell splitting and deploying hard light weapons/rocket launchers/etc sort of like in canon.

battleshell/misc notes - i'm thinking his battleshell is controlled using the pink sensor on the back of his coat, possibly in combination with his headset. it floats behind him by default and is sturdy enough to protect his back, but he can also freely fly it around like a drone if he wants. the holes on the side are mainly for the spider arms and the banners(?) and handles(?) with the blue/pink gradient are made of hard light and only appear when the shell is in use.

i imagine like in the series, his tech here isn't necessarily very reliant on his vision/powers; much of it he likely made himself long before he received a vision and he just uses his vision to enhance it.

his burst is a barrage of missiles from his shell that lock onto an enemy and deal a large burst of electro damage in an AOE. not sure if i want his skill to be a deployable or some sort of electro-infusion/boost 🤔 maybe something that involves deploying his shell to boost his damage while leaving him vulnerable, like a glass canon? though i'm not sure he'd be that sort of risk-taker... 😅 dunno! his signature weapon would totally be his tech bo though.

One thing that I think is neat about April in ROTTMNT is her color design

In past versions of the cartoon April's key colors are the red/orange of her hair, and the yellow of her clothes

(I know 2003 april's default outfit is purple and not yellow but from what i've seen of the cartoon she still wears yellow)

While 2018 april's colors are red, yellow AND green

When you look at the turtles, asides from the colors of their mask, their primary colors are the green of their skin, and the yellow of their plastrons

(though in the 2012 versions Leo and Donnie's plastrons are a bit more orange and brown but yall get the gist)

Having her share her three primary colors with the turtles makes her visually appear closer to the turtles, and imo makes her feel more like apart of the turtle family

Also I know we've only seen like a minute of mutant mayhem April but it seems like theyre going again for a red, yellow, and green combo for her design! Or at least I think they are? I'm having a hard time figuring out the color of her hat in this lighting lol

A short fic based off of somerandomdudelmao’s Cass Apocalyptic series

Casey Jr!” Mikey yelled. It was a type of shout heard on long car rides when a cow was spotted. Casey froze, his hand hovering over the door knob.

“Hi?” Casey asked. He turned around to face Mikey. Then he immediately regretted doing so. It wasn’t only Mikey that was there. Donnie and Leo had appeared quietly, flanking either side of Casey. It reminded him of that dinosaur movie they watched together to have him “better understand pop-culture”.

“Well um,” Casey turned around “I’ve gotta go-” he tried to make a break for it only to be met with the wall that is Raphael Hamato. Casey was surrounded.

“What, what is this, an intervention?” Casey joked. He was the only one who laughed.

“Precisely.” Donnie said. Casey’s eyes widened.

“We’re worried about you.” Raph said, hand on Casey’s shoulder. Reassuring, but also stopping Casey from bolting.

“Me?” Casey asked.

“Yes, you!” Leo exclaimed. “Who else would we be talking about?” He waved his arms around.

“…not me?” Raph’s brow furrowed.

“You haven’t been home at all.” Mikey said, officially opening the floodgates.

“We haven’t seen you eat.”

“You won’t talk to us.”

“Have you been sleeping at all?”

“You’re skittish.”

“And I know you’ve been stealing from my lab!” Donnie shouted.

“Also, you’ve been lying.” Leo finished. Casey rocked back and forth.

“Psh, me, lying?” Casey waved his hand as if to dismiss the idea.

“Does saying you have an uncle of all things ring any bells, Casey?” Leo asked, hands on his hips. Casey felt his heart sink.

“What Leo means to say is, we can help Casey, whatever it is that’s bothering you, us, April, Splinter, and…even Draxum.” Raphael explained, he squeezed Casey’s shoulder. Donnie rolled his eyes, but he didn’t scoff.

“Yeah!” Mikey exclaimed. “I can use my pizazz!” He said while finger gunning at Casey.

Casey couldn’t do this. What felt like an eternity to Casey looked like a blur to the others. He yanked himself out from under Raph’s hand, dodging Mikey trying to grab him.

“No!” Casey shouted. “No, you can’t help!”

“Yes we can!” Leo shouted back and God the way he tilted forward, arms opened wide, a determined look on his face. Casey choked back tears.

“You can’t bring them back!”

Everyone stilled.

“You look just like them.” Casey whispered. But that also wasn’t the full truth.

Sure Leo did what Uncle Tello called the mom stance but he didn’t do it with the same caring grin. Smile lines and crows’ feet missing from his face. Donnie rolled his eyes but it wasn’t the same playfulness. Mikey did finger guns but there wasn’t the same spark, literally and figuratively. And this Raph couldn’t hold him the same, they weren’t there yet. He wasn’t there yet with any of them, where an embracing hug was the default. They were so much alike but they were not the same turtles he knew. They were not his senseis.

All he wanted right now was a genuine Hamato hug. His Hamatos’ hugs. And Uncle Tello could do that. Uncle Tello was here. Uncle Tello was working towards a day where all of them could hug Casey again. Casey could do that. Casey could be here with them, his senseis.

“I can fix it.” Casey said. His hope poured out like a squashed oozesquito. Sad and beaten but still going.

“Huh?” Mikey said.

“Just you wait!” Casey exclaimed, running out of the lair, heels on fire.

“Casey, wait!” Leo started to go after him. One of Donnie’s mechanical limbs reached out and grabbed him.

“What would you even do?” Donnie asked. Leo didn’t know. He didn’t know. None of them know.

But Casey? Casey knew. Casey knew exactly what he was going to do. For once in his life he knew exactly what he wanted and he knew exactly how to get it.

Casey Hamato knows.

hi sorry im going to hijack this ask to talk about all of them

Ive hemmed and hawed on this one and talked about it sparingly in a couple different places but I'm finally (finally) making a decision about this:

Raph: Bigender she/him

Donnie: He/they/it

Leo: He/him

Mikey: He/she/they

Casey: Any. He doesn't care. Not super clear if he understands today's use of pronouns.

There are situations where I will favor some pronouns over others - splinter usually still refers to the turtles as his "boys", most people default to "he" for casey, donnie has specific rules about their pronouns I want to get into later. And beyond mikey having a/couple of set(s) pronouns at any given time (as opposed to any/every whenever) I try to use "she" sparingly for mikey when referring to Lena too bc I don't want to associate their having kids with femininity etc etc. It was something that he wanted to do but is separate from any gender shit going on.

Then there's technical/personal id stuff for each like, yes. Technically they're all intersex, but no one else has the patience to listen through Donnie's lecture about it. Raphs social transition + Leo's "fuck! I'm not a girl!" where Being Trans was part of him becoming more self-assured in his own gender vs mikey and donnie just not vibing with the trans label even if it could apply to them.

So uh. Yeah! I think thats everything.

I did, I suppose! Cause he’s pretty much my default fav for most versions. Like Donatello is my favorite throughout….

But tbh, for Rise it very often switches so rapidly between Leo and Donnie. And then Mikey and Raph are so close behind. I don’t really have them numbered as favs in my head.

It’s less “a favorite” and more tends to be whoever’s got a storyline in the works, and verily, cursed with being my focus. Right now it’s Leo and Mikey lol.

DAY IN THE LIFE OF SIBLING READER

Where do I even begin to describe the chaos?

Every morning you are the first to wake up,

No matter what.

You even wake up before Leo.

How, none of them can figure out.

You beg to have a poptart for breakfast, and while you do get them occasionally, someone will ususally make you eggs and toast.

It's just not healthy for a child your age to have poptarts for breakfast everyday.

After breakfast, the boys have training, depending on how Splinter feels that day determines the type of training.

Your favorite type of training is posture or balance training because Splinter gives you a stick and your job is to hit your brothers on the ankles with it.

That's why Splinter only has balance training on weekends,

Since you have school the rest of the week.

Speaking of, Donnie makes it a point to tutor and help you with your school.

Which is definitly part of the reason you're the smartest kindergardener your teachers have ever seen.

(My little sister came up with a headcanon and I just had to share it, Donnie gives you a broken keyboard just to make you think you're helping him with his work, and you won't realize that it was broken untill you're like, 17, and you'll realize your whole life was a lie.)

Ahem-

If you aren't at school, one of your brothers is always keeping you busy,

They found out the hard way that leavinga bored toddler to their own does not end well.

It will forever be known as the "Paintball Incident" and I refuse to elaborate any further on the subject.

Mikey likes to play video games with you,

Leo won't let you play any 'mature' games until your older, stuff like Call Of Duty or Tomb Raider,

So you guys usually play games like Mario Kart, Stardew Valley, and Minecraft.

As it turns out, you are incredible at Mario Kart and are currently the house champion, and no one knows how tf you keep winning.

The entire fam goes into slight denial when you start growing up.

They kinda forgot you wouldn't stay small and wholesome forever,

So when you get to the age of, well, angstyness, shit gets wild.

Backtalk, sneaking out, rolling your eyes, Leo does not appreciate the attitude.

You not directly a jerk to any of them, just alot more sarcastic than you used to be,

But most of the time you're a really good kid.

Good grades, you do good in training, always have your chores done,

The whole nine yards.

(You are Splinter's favorite by default)

You are decently close with April,

You have sleepovers at her apartment, and she'll take you out shopping sometimes,

She's like a breath of fresh air compared to the chaos that is the Lair.

Casey is like that cool uncle that lets you do stuff you probably shouldn't be doing,

Like try beer.

One time, you were spending the night at April's apartment during hockey season, and Casey was there so you could all watch the game together.

April got up to use the bathroom, and Casey used to opportunity to do cool uncle things and let you try some beer.

You did not like it.

You choked slightly as the taste caught you off guard, "That taste like shit." you coughed out.

Casey scoffed, "It's an aquired taste, smalls."

"Thats code for, 'It taste like shit'."

Kareoke night is a regular thing on Fridays.

It usually ends with you passed out on the couch and one of your brothers carrying you to bed.

But it's your favorite part of the week.

If you end up growing to be around the same height as the boys', they will literally hate it,

You used to be so small 🥺,

They think it's unfair that you didn't stay that way.

It hits Splinter particularly hard when he realizes you grew up,

Because the same thing happend with the boys'.

But no matter how old you are, he is more than willing to be your person to go to,

Even if you are grown up, he's still you're dad.

(He still sings you to sleep if you have a nightmare.)

When you start patroling with your brothers, they are fucking terrified.

You can get hurt, alot easier than any of them can, so it's only natural that they're nervous.

You don't have a protective shell like they do after all.

If you ever get hurt after a fight, they are fa-reaking out.

Donnie's got the med-kit and starts checking you for everything from a concussion to lung cancer,

Mikey's panicing in the backround, while Leo just paces dramatically,

And Raph is currently beating the shit out of whatever poor idiot decided to hurt you.

Word spreads quickly amongst the criminals of the city to not go anywhere near you should they encounter the turtles,

Lest the be in mortal danger.

All in all,

It's chaotic,

It's fun,

And you know for a fact you have a family to back you up in anything you do.

Will Donnie ever make August her own battle shell to protect her soft shell?

Oh yes absolutely! August has actually had a battleshell since she was small, but it’s less battle, more protection. No weapons or gadgets, just basically a shell helmet. Donnie calls it her Rough Housing Shell. August hates it haha. Mostly she just doesn’t like the feel of it on her shell. Where I think for Donnie it’s comforting, for August it’s weird and icky. She does everything in her tiny kid power to not wear it. As she gets older and learns how to articulate what it is about the shell that bothers her though, Donnie’s able to adjust it to be more August friendly. By the time she’s old enough for missions, Donnie’s built her a proper battleshell similar to his own but with some August flair, and she’s much better about wearing it while in action. She just doesn’t wear it by default like Donnie does. ;w;
