Spear master moment
Tumblr media
I really love the idea of Spearmaster having markings or tattoos that are either similar or inspired by Suns' markings. I wanted to also draw them in clothes, but I couldn't get it to work. I don't think starting off my redesign/design series with the most Human Looking Freak™ of the bunch was a good idea but whatever FUFNSJ
I also think that spearmaster would be muscular- not super beefy like you'd think for Arti or Gourmond, but more athletic. They're definitely not malnourished- they can easily store enough food to save for a whole other cycle- plus they're getting a LOT of protein from their hunts :33

surely i've mentioned this before but i think its extremely funny now that the first time I ever passed with a large group of my own peers was while I was dressed as dipper at a costume party
they wanted to play spin the bottle and were saying there were "too many guys". The girl who invited all of us was confused by this, so someone started counting up guys

I think this was before I even knew I was trans. But I was elated nonetheless

Walking iterator design! Inspired by @capricoopla 's mobile iterators! I went for more of a mix between a few different things- namely nosk from Hollow Knight! It was supposed to look like a massive spider but it kinda looks like a fucked up giraffe weevil.
(more in depth design nerd stuff under the cut)
The body being built more akin to a spider allows for the neurons the iterators need to be stored somewhere safe and protected- the abdomen! Aka their massive spider booty. It can hold a TON of neurons- albeit very very cramped with minimal space for the neurons to move. This DOES affect the iterators- making them experience mood swings, constant spaghetti string thoughts™, and memory jumbling, but it allows for them to stay properly sapient and allows them to keep their memories and processing power.
The thorax (the part the head is connected to) is the main powering system. Inside isa leftover refraction cell- being inputted into a much smaller scale heart. The section it's hooked up to regulates the "voltage" being put out- that way the entire thing doesn't explode from an overload. The refraction cell is how the entire body is able to move in the first place!
The body is very heavy and sturdy, being able to withstand the rain if needed.its also covered in vents from its ventilation, as well as some addition steam valves to let trapped vapor from its coolant systems out.

My, who's this lavish fellow? The lingering smell of cigars and ash shouldn't be of any mind.
"Come one, come all to the Masquerade!
Leave your true identities at the door and please, join me in a night of enjoyment!"

Welcome, welcome! John Juniper has invited you all to a party in celebration. If you would be so kind as to mark your attendance with Gibson at the door- attendees will not be announced by name (so as to not spoil the fun). Look sharp, trade stories, keep up the facade of anonymity, but above all- have fun!

hi. going to speak on something that's been bothering me for the past... however long, since it seems like complaint posts have been cropping up lately. putting this under the cut.
Maybe I'm reading too far into things. Maybe I'm wrong. But I feel like there is a massive difference in how this fandom treats the women versus the men.
Again. Maybe I'm wrong. I sincerely hope I'm just wrong. It's hard to think that, though, when I see the differences in how people treat the major antagonists of the series.
John Juniper is a fandom favorite. I feel like people have talked about him more than any other character I've seen, save for Agent Phoenix and perhaps the Handler. I see people come up with any reason for him to not actually be as bad of a person as we see in canon - despite the fact that he wants to launch nuclear weapons. He wants to kidnap and impersonate public figures. He's having a good time playing the villain. I've seen his actions excused in any number of ways.
Meanwhile... When people do talk about Solaris, it tends to be to remind people of very surface level information, rather than to do any sort of in depth analysis style posts. I see information that's incomplete or just not really true passed around a lot. The Fabricator is flattened down so incredibly often to just one character trait - her anger, typically exaggerated to be comical hatred of John Juniper in particular or just... Violence in general. And yes, she gets angry frequently, but I never see her given the same depth to that anger as John Juniper is given to his. And Prism? An antagonist that gets as much screen time as Juniper, if not more? I hardly see her mentioned at all these days. And even when she was talked about, I don't recall seeing many people analyze her character. Or talk about her motivations. Definitely not in the same way Juniper gets talked about, at the very least. All three of them are mischaracterized often, from my observations, flattened to pave the way for... John Juniper, mostly.
And that's not even getting into the background women who aren't talked about at all when compared to the men with similar story roles.
It's... Frustrating. I surround myself with people who enjoy the characters I do, who find it interesting to talk about the women in this game. I make the content I want to see. But the last time I said anything outside of those close circles, I was told to... Make the content I want to see. To engage with the content that's out there. And that frustrates me, too. Because I'm making it. I had been making it. I was actively working on Biomechatronic at the time. I was drawing, posting my art, and ever since I entered the fandom I've focused mainly on the women - The Fabricator, in particular. And I don't make art just for views or internet points or what have you, but it is discouraging to feel like the fandom doesn't care about what I have to offer.
Like whatever characters you want to like. I'm not trying to tell anyone to stop making the art or posts they enjoy making. But... I have noticed a trend, and it's one I find somewhat concerning. That's all.

You're so real for that actually. I was mostly taking inspiration from the "incognito" symbol, but it was also pointed out to me that they kinda look like the anonymous icon for Tumblr, and I've taken pride in that fact LMAO
BIG IEYTD COLLAB…. 2!!!!
this time it’ll be with phoenixes! it’ll go the same as the juniper collab, make sure you draw your phoenix relatively fullbody, with a transparent background & reblog it to this post! deadline will be april 17th, so there’s a bit more wiggle room when it comes to a due date :) a day after the due date, i’ll collect all the phoenixes reblogged to this post and put them together like the big juniper piece —> here!
take your time & have fun! remember this collab is for phoenixes! submit as many as you want!

Absolutely real and true. I forgot to give my designs their grey streaks on my spreadsheet BUT THEY HAVE THEM!!! I'll try to remember to draw them more often. I love how many middle-aged/old people there are without making the game itself super "serious" or "adult." You can eat screws and bolts ffs. It's such a silly game with such a fun vibe. Usually you only get games like that with young characters/protagonists.
wish more ieytd fandesigns looked older if that makes sense. not phoenix i dont care what people do with phoenix make that beast as unidentifiable as humanly possible but. im not sure. all of the existing humans in this game are in their 40s or 50s to me i cannot comprehend a human design of the fabricator without wrinkles and huge eyebags yknow what i mean
