— Jason catches himself before his feet land on the table. There's nobody in the chair kicking his boots to the floor to spare him Alfred's wrath. There's no newspaper set aside in favour of the crossword book between them like a peace offering. There's no companionable silence settled around them, long sought after and cut so short.

There's no ghost waiting for him, no blame thrown at him, no disappointment or accusation or rage. Nothing at all. Just an absence where there should've been a presence, a sweater discarded where Bruce should be.

He's alone. They're all alone.

Bruce isn't coming back. Not this time.

Thanks for the ask! For this, I'll discuss a bit about Lyarshu's father.

Lukas Reizellian will bring his principles to the grave. He will not stand for maltreatment of others even if it is the status quo. He will die fighting for the rights of his peoples, because their dignity is more important than progress and tradition.

Though, if there were objects to bury with his remains, it's probably simple jewelry made from pebbles that the locals gave him.

KIP idk about you but im going feral about the possibilities for control 2 even tho we don't even have a timeline yet about how long they've been out of the internal lockdown at the time of the game (they wouldn't be in lockdown for nearly five years, right remedy?????)

If they have it be a few years post-lockdown and we get that sweet sweet sibling angst i might actually never shut up about it

SAME SAME SAME me literally right now as we speak:

GOSH i really have no thoughts at all because i'm not sure where they'll go with it-- there's so many places TO go that i'm left just sort of standing her vibrating excitedly

part of me wants/wonders if we'll get to play through sections as dylan-- still asleep, experiencing other planes while he dreams (the astral is a mental plane, but still real-- where has dylan gone while comatose?)

part of me wonders how much alan is going to play into this (they're bound to continue to crash into each other, right? though maybe not a full crossover, but continual paths crossing-- i feel like alan has knowingly/unknowingly written himself as a willing/unwilling villain so he can finally escape in a "satisfying" way for the narrative he's writing)

part of me feels like they can't rehash the hiss again, unless the hiss has evolved, or something WORSE than the hiss has escaped-- or something new, another resonance

but then again, there is SO much out there-- animate growling tractors, melted-dog-boys, dung monkeys, not-mothers, living resonances, darkness, not-quite-mold, formers and boards-- I want to see WEIRD things, CREATURES and NOT QUITE CREATURES

i want to see other paranatural groups, because the FBC is not the only one, and Bless can't be the only one either-- I wanna see a way to understand the paranatural world outside of the boxes the FBC has built, I wanna see everyone we've met grow and struggle in their roles,

I wanna cry over the Fadens

I kept it far away from the iceberg!" "It blocked the Suez canal for a week." Leo nodded again, more emphatically this time. "There are no icebergs in Egypt!"

I've been quite busy this semester, BUT things might be mentally calming down so im back to commit word crimes >:D

I'm not gonna do full NaNo, but I'm planning on getting back into writing Petal, Pedal and maybe write some fun stuff for GSR!

Hope the time alone treats you well, and if you have any pets, they don't find any ghosts!

Totally read that as "commiting real world crimes" so this is probably another sign that I'm tired and should probably go to sleep soon 🤣

I am super happy that you're getting a bit of a mental break! Good luck on partial Nano, I'm very excited to see more of your posts.

I actually do not have any pets! Never have before. All of my ghost-finding has been on my own. In Japan, we have a concept called reikan that indicates the sensitivity that people have towards ghosts, spirits, and other things like that.

I actually have a decent reikan and have a couple of ghost experiences. My relative's reikan is off the charts and it's insane, she has so many stories.

I'm a pretty spiritual person due to my Shinto and Buddhist beliefs. I'm a firm believer in science but I also believe in the existence of kami, spirits and the existence of people who've passed on.

Hopefully if I do run into any ghosts, they'll be my family and ancestors here to keep me company!

still on the star wars fic. I'm trying not to let it get derailed by a the new versions of it I didn't mean to start developing in my head.

You've always loved rain.

As a child you'd sit inside the mouth of a cave and watch it melt the landscape around you, bleeding the rock and painting the ground. You loved to be out in the wet, to climb over slippery rocks with perfect balance and fear nothing.

Thunder was equally loved. On Retevya, rain and thunder never mixed. You'd either be drenched or surrounded by the claps and crashes of the stormy air. Lightning sometimes joined, a fantastic display across purple skies that delighted you, but the thunder stopped as soon as the rain started.

The first time you experienced a storm with rain echoed by thunder and lit by lightning was the night your brother died.

this doesn't even make sense with the personal history I've made up for her but whatever, I'm not writing this for ao3. yet. I'm slowly losing my fascination with second person so this could start being in 3rd present soon enough. we'll see.

37. Is your character more concerned with defending their honor, or protecting their status?

Since most of my main characters in Arcanium actually swing between these principles depending on the situation, I'll talk about Gracie, Jewel, Orbit politics, and the head spellcaster position for this.

As a background, two countries, the Emerald Kingdom and the Platinum Fort, have been locked in a bloody stalemate for a while now. Because the Emerald Kingdom is seen as a devout follower/practitioner of alchemy, the Platinum Fort's obvious choice for an ally is an entity who follows/practices magic. As such, they have requested the City of Magic, Kaleidopolis, for help.

Mistress Jewel was the current head spellcaster of Heartwood Academy, the school for mages. Her responsibilities also included delegating tasks to mages within their city and their external affiliations. Hence, while she could agree to the Fort's request and have mages mobilized to fight against the Emerald Kingdom, Jewel opted not to. She desired the mages not to be involved in a war, thereby protecting their status as eccentric, harmless intellectuals who use magic in pursuit of knowledge and progress. She came here to better the magic community, not to command her fellow mages to lead themselves to senseless deaths.

Seeing that the Platinum Fort's please for help are being ignored, the Emerald Kingdom begins to appeal to the two politically neutral major forces that could help it change the tides of war, one of which is Kaleidopolis. Jewel keeps turning them down, but as she receives more and more refugees from the Emerald Kingdom, she fears that she might've not decided as wisely as she had thought.

(But the fear of having the mighty Emerald Kingdom retaliate and crush them weighs heavier on her heart.)

Come Gracie who abdicated her throne back in Prismatic Kingdom and chose to work for the Academy. Though she hated war, she also hated how her king father would rather not lift a hand and turn a blind eye to what was occurring. Unable to influence her kingdom to make a move, she charms her way into the Academy's ranks and basically overthrows Jewel's headship.

As the new head spellcaster, Gracie leads troops into Platinum Fort, establishes relationships on the Archipelago of Metallurgen, and recreates the image of Kaleidopolis. She severes ties with her family; she even goes through a very painful divorce. Under her leadership, Kaleidopolis gains a new reputation as a military training ground, intimidating both allies and non-allies of its perceived power, especially when it successfully pushes back Emeraldic forces out of most encampments on Metallurgen.

But she will not let people die ruthlessly at the hands of a power-hungry beast, even if she has to give up being a royal, having a husband, or enjoying a good relationship with her daughter. She will not be a beholder of power who will stand by and watch the slaughter of innocents as she cozies up her comfortable seat. Not on her honor as leader.

(Also, the Vainglories Ashtazye and Ilyusha, the former/fallen gods of war and peace respectively, are a better and more overt reflection of the honor vs status concept. But, this is major spoiler territory and I'm still cooking things up as well.)

“Everything is so… blue,” Azami marvelled behind her. Petra nodded. “The average colour of plants on inhabitable planets tends to fall on the green part of the colour spectrum,” she began excitedly, bending down to examine the moss. “A variety of factors that determine both planet hospitality make the average plant colour occupy a narrow range. The closest planet to this, in terms of parameters, is Thiu Thô, which has bluish-green plants. So the fact that the plants here completely cross the line from green to blue is—” She forced herself to stop. Nobody was listening; Finneas was admiring the ocean, Azami was making herself comfortable lying on the sand, and Valyan was picking up rocks, examining each of them in the sunlight.

Finneas rapidly pinched off the stems growing from his palms, tearing off little pieces of skin in the process. Ignoring the tiny droplets of blood forming in the cuts left behind, he ripped the bloodied leaves from his arm and stuffed them into the space underneath the pod. He wiped as much blood as he could, revealing a scar against his pale skin— the only hint that a wound had been there mere seconds ago. He was no longer dizzy, but using his power had left him feeling tired, heavy, like he hadn’t gotten enough sleep.

The nearest lavatory was also the laundry room. The overhead light flashed on as [Finneas] slipped inside and slid the door closed. Pausing in front of the mirror, he took a moment to examine his reflection. The stress of the last couple of weeks didn’t look great on him— the spaces under his eyes now sported visible bags from poor sleep, his hair had lost a bit of its shine, and his cheeks were more sunken in than usual.

On the other bed, Azami was still buried beneath the blankets, her form gently heaving in time with her muffled snores. “Can you wake up Azami, please?” Petra ordered Valyan, who was once again fiddling with the holoscreen, watching what appeared to be a Buhaki cooking show with Universal subtitles instead of getting dressed. “Dev will be back for us soon.” As Valyan pounced onto Azami’s bed, singing some nonsense rhymes about waking up, Petra rolled over to scan the room. The nest of pillows and blankets Finneas had made for himself beside the bed had been packed up and neatly folded atop the dresser. The balcony was empty, and the door to the washroom was ajar, shower curtains pulled back— Finneas was nowhere to be seen.
