Dear Anonymous,
Tumblr media
It was because Wright was found with forgery. Whilst there was no evidence to prove he was the one who ordered the forgery to be made, Wright never provided evidence to prove he had nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, when you are called by the higher-ups to question your conduct, it is treated more heavily towards the Guilty until proven innocent category.
Tumblr media
I must mention, before you comment, that considering that our Judicial System admittedly doesn’t pressure the Prosecution for burden of proof as strongly here compared to the rest of the states, that is saying something. Unfortunately, this is not something that only exists here compared to the rest of the states. It’s the same in all states when it comes to your license to work in law, the medical field, etc. If ever something goes wrong from your end, it all falls on whoever was in charge that morning and you must show proof that you didn’t do it or else.
(And, people wonder why Bureaucracy is often found in the workplace in a Democratic government.)

phoenix wright making apollo justice present forged evidence is, as rightfully rage-inducing as it is, also perfectly understandable and even justifiable to an extent. in this essay i will not cut my introduction off with an old-fashioned tumblr punchline and will actually elaborate on why i think so and what i think about phoenix wright in general.
the first few paragraphs will be rather surface-level, but bear with me: i'm writing this in one breath. it has already been established that the change in phoenix's character was so big and shocking that the fandom is still actively discussing it and making theories. i have seen people compare his sprites with mia and diego, kristoph and miles, yanni yogi and many others, and every single on of them is, in in my opinion, correct: there are actual similarities between them, intentional or not. i believe it can all be explained with two simple statements. one: phoenix is a sponge of a man. even before aa4, we frequently see him adopt mannerisms and figures of speech from the people he encounters. he learns, he absorbs, he changes, but only for a short while, as he stays true to his motivations, passions and drive. two: the seven years of being watched by kristoph and collecting data made him turn to that mimicking quality of his and use it as a weapon. phoenix wright could not afford to reveal his true motivations, therefore, he could not reveal what he was in general. it's a simple metaphor, really.
did he get lost in the deceptions somewhere along the way? absolutely. "what tangled webs we weave when we practice to deceive", a line said by him about kristoph, can easily be applied to phoenix. this is where the bloody ace comes in. incidentally, he is given the idea by zak: he is the one who says one can't win unless there's a ace up their sleeve, and, no matter how much of an influence that particular phrase had on wright, he follows the principle. here is phoenix's first motive for forging the ace: insurance. without concrete, dooming evidence, a trial could not end in his favor at the time. phoenix wright, post-disbarment, is no longer a man who relies on bluffs and "just believing in the client", he is strongly dissapointed in the system, outraged, offended, hurt, wounded, and he does not trust it at all, hence the dirty tricks. you can't just play fair against something unfair and win.
what i find far more interesting however, are his other motives. if the only thing that drive him to forgery was distrust and carefulness, he would have shared the plan with apollo or, perhaps, done something similar to the turnabout succession trial, where the letter is shown to the culprit, but never submitted as evidence and quickly admitted as a fake. really, i believe he is smart enough to find other ways. however, he doesn't. he gives the ace to apollo in a very specific way: through trucy wright, not a word of proper explanation. why is that? he is teaching apollo a lesson.
clearly, something about apollo reminds phoenix of himself. a young, bright, nervous mind, fighting for the truth and justice, full of belief, a little naive. phoenix knows what that naivety cost him, and he destroys it right away, because then it will hurt less, he thinks. the forged ace is a vaccine of sorts: you will experience some minor symptoms, but no actual serious consequences, and it will hurt for a moment, but for the rest of your life, you will never catch that sickness again. phoenix is already planning the jurist system reform and has already planned how this trial will go: the environment is controlled and safe for apollo, he will not get disbarred. if the truth is revealed later, under the new system, surely apollo won't be receiving the same harsh punishment wright did. so here you go, kid, learn your lesson, punch a lawyer or two in the face, and never ever, ever trust anyone like that ever again.
but wait, if the truth does get revealed, who will be receiving the punishment for it? of course, the man who forged the evidence, phoenix wright. here comes the third reason: punishment.
remember the class trial? young phoenix wright, blamed for a crime he didn't commit, overwhelmed and crying. what does the abandoned child do when the whole class accuses him of stealing? he stands up slowly and comes up to the kid with the grey hair to apologize for the money he stole but did not steal. he admits it. it doesn't matter what the truth is anymore, because if everyone thinks you did it, you might as well have.
you might as well do it again, for real this time, and maybe a weight will fall off your shoulders, because what you see in yourself will finally match the image the whole world has of you.
phoenix wright is working on the jurist system. phoenix wright is a father and phoenix wright is someone who will do his best to put kristoph gavin to jail. that doesn't mean phoenix wright sees any other use or future for himself. it simply does not matter. well, by the end of the first case, anyway.
he gathers more evidence. he thinks, a lot. he gives apollo advice on the cases, inevitability reminiscing. the new system is a success. in a new, better world, maybe he will take some piano lessons: he has grown tired of pretending he can play. he has grown tired of pretending in general. hell, maybe he will even take the bar exam again.

Note: This is during the 7 yrs Phoenix is disbarred and Miles Edgeworth is disqualified for the following reasons
he's Trucy's co-parent and you don't babysit your own child
Miles was most likely in Europe during the 7yr gap and only spent time with the Wrights when he flew them out to get Nick's help on a case so both of Trucy's dads, the good ones who don't abandon her, would leave her with one of the mentioned babysitters to go flirt, I mean solve cases alone
if both Trucy and Miles are in one location then why would Nick want to be anywhere else unless he's forced to

I need your opinion on this matter. Do you think Phoenix Wright would be the type of person to wear those silly patterned socks? For example, maybe every Friday he wears gaudy patterned socks that could range to having legal scales on them to having very obnoxiously orange garfield ones.
UHHHHHHH YEAH DEFINITELY 1000000000%
AS A FUN MISMATCHED SOCK LOVER WHO IS ALSO PHOENIX WRIGHT (trust) YES HE WOULD
every single day and they never match unless they’re a new pair because you can’t wear one new one and one old one…it doesn’t feel right on the feet.

Apollo Justice x reader. Head cannons for relationship
APOLLO JUSTICE x READER | written by MOD clever
warnings; A few cuss words here and there but that's it-
headcanons for Apollo Justice in a relationship...
Tumblr media
Ace Attorney; Apollo Justice
First thing to know about this man- He doesn’t fall in love easily. But when he does? Man, he falls hard. He’s a dedicated and passionate individual, someone who isn’t open to dating someone unless he knows that they’re the right one.
You have to be someone he’s known for a long time. He’s been through a lot, and even though he continues to say that he’s fine, you need to be someone who can actually see through his facade and care for him as a person. Though he’s stubborn, he’ll be practically putty in your hands.
Apollo appreciates intellectual stimulation and enjoys engaging in deep conversations with his partner. (Taxes. /J) He enjoys being able to just have a full conversation with his partner, either it be about a trial coming up, or something random that you enjoy. With that being said, Apollo is also a great listener and a reliable source of emotional support. He genuinely cares about his partner's well-being and will lend a listening ear whenever they need to vent or seek advice. (Even if he's completely awkward at it at first.)
Dates? You mean spending time at a crime scene trying to figure out what the hell happened with Apollo's secret younger sister? Yeah-
Seriously though, Trucy definitely has third wheeled y'all a lot. So has Phoenix. Phoenix absolutely will tease Apollo in front of you.
"This is (Y/N), the person I was talking about earlier." "Oh, couldn't you have found anyone better?" "Mr. Wright-!?" "I was talking to (Y/N)-"
Isn’t exactly that big on PDA. He gets flustered easily, face- Hell, entire body going red at any type of affection from his partner. Grab him by the face and pepper his face with kisses. Hold his hand and shout with him that you two are fine. Let him know how much he is valued, admired, and loved so you can make his heart soar.
Leave small hand-written notes for Apollo to find throughout the day- You don’t understand how much that will brighten his mood and make him feel special. These notes could include words of encouragement, affectionate messages, or even playful inside jokes. At some point, he’ll start writing little notes back, and it’ll become a little thing between the two of you. (You two have a little jar of unopened notes for each other for whenever either of you need a pick-me-up.)
Apollo appreciates whenever his partner cheers him on in court. Though, most of the time he’ll miss the sighting of you, and ends up a bit surprised whenever he sees you after court, waiting for him- But just the realization that you had been there, so excited for him to reveal the truth and provide justice has him absolutely melting.
Loves cooking with you. Is he a bit horrible at it? … Yes- BUT HEAR ME OUT- The guy is a romantic at heart, and longs for a domestic life after everything he’s been through. He loves the idea of standing next to you and learning how to make something with you. He knows how to make everyday things, like- he knows how to make eggs and such. But anything past that is stuff he needs help with.
His siblings give him the teasings of his life whenever you’re around. Even if it’s ever so subtle- Or completely obvious- (COUGH COUGH- RAYFA-) Though, prepare to be completely confused when Apollo’s siblings start speaking Khura'inese. (Don’t worry, Apollo’s confused too- He barely knows anything in Khura’In tongue-)
Old-School kid. He has a vintage record player that he… Doesn’t use that much- He just loves it too much to give it away. He loves taking Polaroid photos and putting them into a little scrapbook (Most photos are of you but shh-).
He tries to surprise you with dates, yet they never really seem to work in his favor due to how chaotic the people are in his life. He wants to be extravagant, yet his work schedule (and wallet-) tells him ‘Absolutely not.’ So dates usually end up with just watching random movies while helping Apollo work on an upcoming case.
You must like Mikeko. Mikeko must like you. I don’t make the rules, he does. Genuinely, he loves his cat so much, and if you aren’t willing to get along with his cat, then there will be a bit of a problem. Of course, if the two of you get along, he’s already getting the wedding ring- /J
Apollo pays attention to the small details and remembers the things that matter to his partner. Whether it's their favorite snack, a specific interest or hobby, or a meaningful memory, he shows that he's invested in their happiness by remembering and incorporating these details into their relationship. Though, he does this absolutely unintentionally. The guy doesn’t even realize he does this. Must be the lawyer in him-
Strong man /J I wouldn’t call him *that* strong, his arms are though- Has pretty buff arms- Strong upper-body strength. This is another thing he doesn’t quite realize? It’s quite funny watching him realize this over-and-over again, to be honest. That being said, he definitely will accidentally pick you up if you hug him.
Lawyer- Lawyer business- Meaning his schedule is usually filled to the brim with upcoming cases and such. It’s a bit difficult to find some quality time with him- It gets a tad worse after the whole Spirit of Justice arc. Just be there for him, ya’ll.
Isn’t used to having someone be there for him 24/7. He’s lived a tough life, lost many people along the way of becoming an attorney, he’s used to the concept of loss. He’d be so scared of losing you as well, seeing how horrible his luck was around this certain topic. He’ll shout that he’s fine, when in reality, most of the time he isn’t. Hold him, and make sure he knows you’re not going anywhere.

Hello I see you are succumbing to the Ace Attorney Brainrot TM. If Harrow is Edgeworth, then presumably Gideon is Phoenix. Does that make the very bad teens or Palamedes her court-assigned weird little girl?
WELL, thank you for asking!!! You might just live to regret it.
The main connection is really Harrow 🤝 Edgeworth: I only think I killed my own father daddy issues, and that special kind of dorky tsundere approach to relationships. "Thanks to you, I am saddled with.... unnecessary feelings." vs. "[You were born so attractive] because everyone would have throttled you within the first five minutes otherwise," ect.
Then, of course, there's the counterpart of Gideon 🤝 Phoenix: "All books are basically the same size, right?" vs. "I tried to read a law book, and it made my head hurt. Then I dropped it, and it made my foot hurt." A sarcastic internal monologue that rarely becomes external, a drive to help others boarding on the self-destructive. And, of course, so desperate for a certain someone's attention, they'd switch career paths and life's ambition rather than be ignored. If some spoilers I've seen for later AA games are to be believed, they also both get the depression and hole themselves up in response to the world's overwhelming shittiness. 😔
So! To finally answer your actual question, Gideon's court appointed weird girl could go two ways:
1) Jeannemary and Isaac assigned baby siblings at crime scene when Gideon's mentor, Abigail, is murdered.
2) Completely change the dynamic, and Camilla is the "assistant" who herds Gideon around, gives her hints in court, and is occasionally possessed by Gideon's kind and wise mentor, Palamedes. I think I like this one better because Abigail never actually met Gideon, and making her Mia is trading solely on her psychopomp cred. Palamedes and Gideon had a connection. She trusted him. And Camilla standing trial for Palamedes' murder is so juicy.
I think that's about as far as I can take it. Slotting the rest of the characters into the Phoenix Wright setting would mostly take writing entirely new mysteries.
Unless.....
Pyrrha should be high up in the police force, but she's no Gant. If John isn't Von Karma, he could be Gant as a different breed of genial monster with a taste for the grandiose. Ianthe has potential as Lana—extremely unhelpful, in over her head, and trying to protect her sister.
Ortus is Gumshoe. I am not accepting constructive criticism at this time. <3

Just thought of a cool wrightworth concept
Hear me out, 'k?
What if they got married, but like, a long while ago, long while as in somewhere during the 7 years of hobo Phoenix
Because after Miles made himself the second dad of Trucy (even if Phoenix was reluctant to get any sort of help) and she called it out, it just sinked in
They both went "Yeah, Miles is your other dad"
And then Trucy asked if parents weren't ment to be married, as the little child she was, and they took it up like a "Okay, yeah, sure, let's get married"
And they are married, just like that (taking this up from the Japanese context, where is far easier to just get married) and there wasn't any super emotional break thru of their feelings, they just knew it was it, even tho Phoenix likes to tease Miles about the "Unnecesary feelings" from time to time
And that's it, that's the only change and it actually changes nothing, because Trucy doesn't talk about it, like, ever, its just how her family is, and that's it, unless she gets asked she won't be bringing it up
The only reason Apollo and company ever found out was because one day they noticed that "Wait, why does Mr. Wright wear a ring?"
Because neither him, not Miles usually wear it, except for their anniversary once a year, and same realization happens in the prosecutors office
And so, they ask Phoenix but he gets saved by Maya taking him out for the trial of the day, and they are left to investigate into the matter, because they don't have anything else to do anyways, and investigating stupid stuff is literally their job either way, bad thing is, their only witness is Trucy who won't tell them a thing because she thinks is more fun to let them uncover it on their own
And then you also have the team investigating on Miles' side, that would be Kay, who is curious as if this will finally lead to know who "that man" is, Sebastian, who is taking this a test to prove he's learned the methods of research of his mentor, Miles, and then Klavier also joins because he is just curious and will take in any chance to not be in his desk for five minutes and also is friends with Sebastian, they were classmates back in the day
Gumshoe is not on the team becuase he actually knows they're married, he was the witness for it as Fransizka was still out with Interpol affairs, tho that granted him a visit from her whip, actually, three of them got one for not waiting for her to be there, Maya got to record the whole thing, even if it was just signing some papers

It's the fact that Kristoph completely engineered his own downfall while doing everything he possibly could to avoid being found out.
Apollo - and Klavier too - take Kristoph down with the very things he taught them.
Apollo: (Who was it that taught me never to pull punches in cross-examination?) Apollo: (It was you, Mr. Gavin! I learned it from watching you!)
At the same time, it's stated and implied throughout Kristoph's segments that he taught them everything they knew - about truth, evidence, breaking witnesses, avoiding being misled, trusting your instincts as an attorney. The very values he instilled into his little students were the tools they used to take him out.
I think we easily forget that Kristoph wasn't really teaching Klavier and Apollo bad things. There are AUs, including mine, that explore that possibility. And certainly he was probably weaving some not-so-savory lessons into his words - ways to cheat the system, etc. But overall, Kristoph seems to be a very by-the-book attorney.
Kristoph was the one that incriminated himself by impulse killing Zak and then (stupidly, to be honest) revealing that he thought that the cards were blue.
By trying to kill the Mishams, he ended up damning himself because of his paranoia. Drew Misham was involved in illegal activities - he knew he would go down if he ever dared to reveal Kristoph's identity, not that he knew what that identity was to begin with. Kristoph never let Drew see his face or know his real name because he used a pseudonym and hid his face. The only person who could have possibly ratted on him was Vera, and Vera (a) practically worshipped him and never would have given him up unless compelled to (b) didn't seem to know his name in the first place (c) had no reason to believe that Kristoph was doing anything wrong and (d) literally never left the house. The only reason Vera left the house in the first place is because she was forced to after Drew's unnecessary death, which Kristoph himself arranged.
By doing everything he did, Kristoph created the perfect conditions for his own downfall. He engineered his own L. Ace Attorney villains have done some pretty crazy shit, but it's difficult to identify one that is as cunning, contradictory, and sadly unfortunate as Kristoph. Nothing seems to really go his way at all. He has fantastic luck for seven years and then everything just falls neatly into Phoenix's lap the way it always does. Phoenix's immortal luck and unbeatable plot armor just spell the end of it for Kristoph. This man has survived much worse and always comes back. The gods are looking out for him. Kristoph isn't so lucky.
Ultimately, everything was driven by paranoia and fear of it becoming known that he had fabricated evidence and given it to Phoenix Wright, causing the end of the legend.
I think Kristoph's foresight in playing the long game and strategizing about possible outcomes are unmatched. In chess, he'd be twenty steps ahead and already planning his next move in a thousand different scenarios. He always prepares for every possible eventuality. Even in the Zak Gramarye trial, I believe that he thought he could defeat Klavier on his own, even without fabricated evidence. But he had the forgery created anyway, as insurance. Kristoph is not the type of guy to tight-rope without a net. He wanted to make sure that he would win no matter what happened.
While his long term, detail-oriented strategizing and 5D chess skills are great, Kristoph does not do well reacting to things when he doesn't have a lot of time to think. Killing Zak was a very amateurish move that ended up costing him the game, but his fear got the better of him at a time that he did not have any time to sit and think. In a time-limited situation in which he cannot think deeply about possible outcomes, contingencies and pros/cons of his options, Kristoph tends to experience some deficits in his decision-making. He is unable to make a good choice quickly because he's too concerned with finding and quickly executing on the "optimal" outcome, and he is usually affected by emotion much more than he normally would be. Taking the killing Zak example, in the moment, his fears tell him that killing Zak is the best option because it ensures no risk of Zak revealing what he knows. It may be an extremely risky gambit, but Kristoph believes he can pull it off and keep his mouth shut later. He could have gotten away with it, but failed to keep his mouth shut, later, and his slip of the tongue does him in.
While he is fairly adaptable and doesn't shy away from making hard decisions quickly, he can become myopic and narrow-minded in situations where he must leverage conflicting priorities. The calculus of what determines a priority in his mind seems to put his self-preservation first above all else, not only in terms of remaining alive and safe, but of staying an attorney, and of staying as a well-regarded attorney. He also values staying wealthy, as this gives him a sense of superiority and without this, he would lose his own sense of identity.
Basically, tl;dr Kristoph is smart, but he's stupid, and he's extremely unlucky. The fact of the matter is that he set himself up to fail. Despite his machinations, if he had just done one thing differently, he could've remained on top. Yet it was the kindness he had to educate Apollo and Klavier that finished him off. And when he realized this, he basically lost his mind.

Head Games, Law Games (4969 words) by thesavagesabretooth
first part here
Summary: Phoenix Wright thought that the strange game between him and Kristoph Gavin had ended for good when he put his lover and rival in jail for murder. But when Miles Edgeworth agrees to have the killer mentally evaluated for suitability to start working in the courts from behind bars, Phoenix has to find out for himself just what's going on in Kristoph's head.
-
August 26, 2028– 4:30 pm
Phoenix nervously adjusted the position of the snacks on the table as he waited for Trucy to get back from her magic practice. He had gone overboard– he knew he had gone overboard, with everything from cake, to chips, to tea and candies– but he was worried about upsetting her. Every time he'd thought about it he'd added another snack to the table.
He heard the keys in the door, and stiffened, leaning over the table.
The door flew open in its usual way, and Trucy Wright bounded in as she tossed her hat and cloak on the rack with a laugh.
“HAH! I knew I’d get Betty to start working with me sooner or later! Daddy!! I’m ho—” Her eyes went to the table full of snacks with wide eyes “...is it my birthday or is something up?”
"Hey bug, welcome home!" he waved her over. "I think you'd know if it was your birthday, right?" Skipping over, Trucy came to a stop before the table with her hands folded behind her back.
“Unless I magically gained another birthday? Yeah, probably…which means something’s up…not that I’m gonna complain, of course!”
"Well, I'm glad you don't want to complain," he said. He pulled out a chair for her. "I promise it's really nothing huge. I just wanted to treat you." Trucy dropped into the chair with a tap of her gloved finger on her chin, before she grinned. “Well. In that case…thank you VERY much for the meal, daddy!”
"So how was practice? Is Betty still being snippy about the whole thing?"
Phoenix slid tea and a slice of cake toward her. He was absolutely stalling. He had no idea how to start this conversation. Trucy gave him that uncanny look of hers, where it felt like she was staring straight into his soul, before she grinned and grabbed the tea cup and the cake to put it on her lap.
She took a bite and popped it in her mouth before she hummed “Betty’s still grumpy, but I actually managed to twist her arm enough to work through a possible routine. I just had to lean on Bonny’s puppy dog eyes and the promise of a big show to make it happen.”
"At least it's all coming together, right? I'll be excited to see it when you guys actually have a show in the works."
He still felt guilty for not being able to be there for her first big show– or for the disaster that it turned into. Trucy in Gramaryeland had turned into Trucy in Court on a Murder Charge. What a disaster. At least Apollo had been able to handle it… “Yeah…I mean…I’m trying to think of a good hook, you know? And there’s the matter of booking it.” She sighed and popped another piece of cake in her mouth. “Which is harder than you’d think when the last guy who helped you with it tried to frame you for murder.”
"Yeah," Phoenix grimaced. "I actually have a couple of contacts in TV we could talk to. Way less likely to try to frame you for murder. They're more the type to get framed, honestly. That's how we met." Trucy perked up with a grin as she held her tea up to her lips. “you mean Mr. Powers and Ms. Nichols and all of them, right??”
"Exactly," he nodded. "I bet they could put us in touch with someone. No need to rely on shady contacts."
He knew that Trucy had first gotten connected with Retinz through Klavier Gavin. He didn't want to hold that against Klavier, he knew it wasn't his fault. But still he somehow wasn't surprised that the bad connection had started with a Gavin.
Unfortunately, the dark thought must have shown on his face. Trucy sipped her tea before she finally said. “Daddy, you’re kind of a terrible liar. What’s really up?”
He sighed and rubbed his chin. "Well I mean I wasn't lying, sweetheart. But you're right. I was stalling. Mr. Edgeworth asked me to talk about something with you. Well, actually he was going to talk to you himself, but I said I would."
Ominous, Nick. That sounds ominous. Say something else before she has a chance to–“This is getting pretty ominous daddy. What? What is it? A mother back from the dead? Am I being accused of murder again? A…” Her eyes widened and a grin alighted upon her face “ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED?”
Phoenix made an incoherent sputtering noise as his mind went suddenly blank, and he threw up his hands.
"What? No! Who would I even marry? Don't answer that–" he grimaced and fixed his tie, flushing at the thought of all the possible names that Trucy might pull out. "No, no it's.. it's about your dad, Trucy. Well, about his killer."
Segueing right from marriage to Kristoph made his stomach churn. Once upon a time, Gavin could have been on the list of people Trucy might pull out of her hat for her opinion on a surprise engagement. “Oh.” Trucy’s smile fell from her face. “...this is about Mr. Kristoph, huh?”
"Yeah," he sighed, shoulders slumping. "Sorry, kiddo. Not exactly an exciting and fun conversation, I know."
He gestured at the snacks in a tacit acknowledgement of his own pre-apology. Trucy sighed and grabbed a candy from the table to open it with a puff of her cheeks.
“...you coulda told me right away…but I like the snacks.” She popped it in her mouth “...did he die?”
Phoenix grimaced again. He didn't like the way that the suggestion made him jolt and hurry to answer.
"No, no he didn't die, uh. Not exactly the opposite, but well. His case is being… considered." “Good… I mean, good that he didn’t die.” She tucked her hair over her ear with a tired smile. “I know he did a lot of really shitty things, but I still got a lot of happy memories of those years when you and he were friends, daddy.”
"You do, huh?" Phoenix smiled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck. The truth was, as much as he didn't like it, he did too. "I guess even the worst people have their good sides, huh? But anyway, uh, okay, so you remember about Prosecutor Blackquill?" Trucy nodded as she sipped her tea. “...how he was prosecuting in handcuffs? Or do you mean his whole samurai spy thing with Mr. Fulbright?”
"No, uh, the prosecuting in handcuffs thing, you were right the first time," Phoenix grimaced. Now that he'd put his life back together, he sometimes worried about the things that he exposed Trucy to. He ripped the bandaid off. "Kristoph has asked the prosecutor's office for the same deal." “Oh!” Trucy’s eyes widened behind her fringe of brown hair. “....he did??”
"He did," Phoenix sighed, leaning his elbows on the table. "And Lana Skye made his case for him to Edgeworth. So Edgeworth is considering it." “The fact he convinced Edgeworth is kinda crazy enough.” Trucy leaned on her hands “I mean, even enough to consider it…”
"It is," Phoenix said with a frown. "Edgeworth is not happy about it. I'm not happy about it. But he said he'd seriously consider it, so here we are. He had Athena talk to him, first off." Trucy sipped her tea again with a tilt of her head. “...and what’d she say? I know she’s pretty good with this kinda stuff.”
Phoenix sighed, and closed his eyes. He wondered for a moment if he should tell her the whole truth of just what Kristoph had said. About why he'd killed her father.
"They talked for a while," he said finally. "She doesn't think he's a risk. It… surprised me." “Kind of a surprise to me too, y-ya know. Given the whole multiple homicide thing. But…” Trucy rubbed her neck. “ I mean, Athena’s no stranger to that, is she?”
"No, I guess she's not," he said. "She's good at seeing the good in people. But it wasn't only her opinion that Edgeworth wanted. I think you can guess why I'm talking to you." Trucy fell back against the chair with a furrow of her brow. “...because you wanna know if I’ll tell Edgeworth to give him another chance, right?”
"Yeah," Phoenix sighed. He flattened down over the table on his elbows. "I'm mean, obviously we're not talking about letting him out of prison. Just giving him a chance to work in court."
At this point, anyway. Phoenix had no doubt that Kristoph's end goal was absolutely to weasel his way out of prison, and back into the world. “I know Mr. Gavin sure loved working in court.” Trucy murmured with a shaky smile. “...I mean…if it’s only that, I don’t see why not. R-right?”
"Trucy…." He reached a hand over to her, looking at her shaky smile. "Come on. I think we can both agree there's a very good 'why not' right? No matter what you decide– it's not like there's no reason you should hesitate. Kristoph might have been my friend for a while– even your friend– but, he killed people." Trucy’s smile seemed at its limit, and her shoulders shook a little as she took his hand. She looked down at her lap
“I know. But so did Mr. Halblicht. It’s..”“I mean…I’ll be honest, it’d be easier if I had any answers at all, you know? I have no idea why he went from my friend one day to …” she shrugged her shaking shoulders. “beating my dad to death and trying to poison my friend the next.”
Phoenix squeezed her hand. "Trucy… I wish I had more answers for you than I do. I don't know why he poisoned the Mishams, at least, I don't know why he thinks he did. But…"
He had too many secrets from her. He was already keeping the secret of her mother, and her brother from her. Thalassa had sworn him to secrecy.
But Zak Gramarye had done no such thing.
Still, he hesitated. Trucy stared at him with a serious little frown.
“But there’s….there’s something you do know, Daddy? You have to tell me. If there’s something that’s relevant here you gotta tell me.”
He sighed, and squeezed her hand. "I know, kiddo. It's not going to make you happy though."
It didn't make him happy, either. It made him… confused. Angry that Kristoph somehow felt he was more moral for murdering someone than Phoenix was for not murdering them. But there was this strange sense of horrible, sick…if not pleasure, then satisfaction perhaps, knowing that Kristoph at least had been trying to protect Trucy, in his own fucked up way.
And it made him feel sick that he wondered if he agreed with him– that it was more than Phoenix ever had done. Trucy’s lips were downturned…her expression increasingly concerned. “you’re starting to make me nervous, daddy…”
"He told Athena why he killed your father, Trucy. Or at least, why he claims, though, she believes him."
Phoenix almost felt more cornered now than he ever did in court. Trucy’s eyes briefly widened, and then narrowed with a familiar sort of dogged determination “...so why? Why’d he kill my daddy?”
Phoenix squeezed her hand, and stared down at the table, his head in his hand.
"He told Athena that he did it for you. Because he abandoned you." Trucy was silent. She didn’t say a word as he felt her fingers curl against his. He heard the pace of her breathing pick up as she squeezed a little tighter for a moment. Finally, she said only one word. “Oh.”
"Yeah." He didn't know if there was anything else he could say. He struggled to find words. "Its… still not a good reason." Trucy’s voice cracked as she shook in her chair .“...he killed him because he abandoned me. It’s…it’s…I…”
Phoenix scooted his chair around the table closer to her, and put his arm around her.
I shouldn't have told her. I just should have kept my big fat mouth shut.Trucy grabbed him tightly in a hug.
“Daddy was always gonna abandon me. I knew it from the day he left me in the courthouse.” She squeezed Phoenix tighter “and it hurt,a lot. It was like…family was just another excuse for a vanishing act to the Gramaryes. That it’s just what family was. But it still hurt.”
"I know, honey," Phoenix murmured. He squeezed Trucy, and he felt his chest tighten. She had known, she had always known. Zak Gramarye had been planning to play them all from the very beginning. The horrible thought that maybe he deserved to die flashed through his mind. "It wasn't fair to you. It was terrible."
It wasn't fair to Phoenix, either. What the hell did Zak Gramarye think he was doing? Who was going to raise Zak's daughter when he disappeared. Valant sure fucking wasn't!
Trucy shrugged against him, sniffling softly.
“it was always gonna happen. Every magic act has a sleight of hand, and something used to make the trick work.” she shook her head against him and he felt hot tears on his shirt. “If the trick goes off smoothly, whatever happens to the tool doesn’t matter. Fair has nothing to do with it.”
"Trucy that's–" he held her to his chest. "You can't treat people like that. People aren't just tools for magical acts. What your father did to you was as wrong as what Kristoph did to him."
Did that mean it balanced out?
Trucy hiccuped. Her fingers squeezed his shoulders tightly. “D-dunno. I gotta think about it, Daddy…but…it’s the Gramarye way. What daddy did…maybe… maybe it was worse than what Mr. Gavin did.” She looked up at him with tears in her eyes “I mean…Daddy abandoned me to survive on my own …twice, for himself. Nobody else. But Mr. Gavin might have killed him for me.”
Phoenix held his daughter and he felt ashamed of himself. Ashamed of not dragging her real father in to face her, and own up to what he'd done.
And ashamed for almost feeling grateful to Kristoph for killing him.
"Trucy, you can't just kill people for being awful," he murmured. "But… I can't blame you for feeling that way. I'm not crying for your father." “I KNOW I can’t, Daddy!” She reached up to wipe her eyes. “obviously it’s still wrong…but if he really was trying to protect me then…” She pressed her hand to her face “...I..I give Mr. Edgeworth my approval. But I’m gonna have to think about this for a little while.”
Phoenix gathered her to his chest, and rested his chin gently on the top of her head. "Take all the time you need, bug."
He was sure as hell going to be thinking about it for a long time.

------------------------------------------------------
What's like being Miles Edgeworth's and Phoenix Wright's younger brother:
Tumblr media
Miles Edgeworth:
Being the younger brother of Edgeworth isn't something bad, neither exciting;
He surely knows what he's doing, between you and Franziska;
When you were little, he preferred to spend time alone, with his books and his dog;
Same as you, Franziska was your age, so you preferred to play with her and sometimes go together in Miles' room to bother him;
As you two grew up, it didn't change much really;
Franziska was a more serious woman and Edgeworth too, but now it was easier to spend time with your brother, speak to him freely and ask advice when needed;
Childhood experiences weren't really a thing, but now wherever Edgeworth went for work or pleasure, he gladly brought his brother with him -if possible- or simply a keepsake for him (and Franziska);
He invited you over often, so you two could spend some time together even if he had to work;
Miles also likes to help you with school or whatever project you have going on, an opportunity to learn new things;
One day, he introduced you to Kay, and since then it's like when you were younger;
Kay always convinced you to get Miles in some problems, or in creating ones during his investigations or in the daily;
Those few times in which you, Miles and Franziska can be together again, are always good ones;
Those two never speak about their work, unless you ask them about it, and the three of you can have some time to talk about life, anecdotes or just spend some time in each other's company.
Tumblr media
Phoenix Wright:
Phoenix always liked the idea of having someone younger to take care of;
So since you were born, he loved to play with you, teach you things and help you when you needed it;
Growing up, you were always the first one to know whatever happened in school and with his friends;
He also helped you with school, doing the homework you couldn't do, but not for free;
Either money or something you would ask your parents on his behalf;
When he left home, everything became much more boring and monotone, but sometime after he started his career, Maya was introduced to you;
Whenever they had a case together she would call you to help in the office and then spend time together once they finished investigating;
Then Maya had to go away, and yes, soon came Trucy, but also Phoenix's worst years;
You stayed by his side, mostly helping him with Trucy;
When he finally came back, with Apollo, and sometimes later Athena too, it was like having a big family;
Phoenix would always divide his time with you and his second family, but more than sometimes you were incorporated by the group.

Phoenix is notoriously hard to get in contact with unless your name starts with Trucy and ends with Wright or if he's actively looking at his phone (which he rarely is)

Do you think Phoenix ever trusted Kristoph?
I don't think so or at least not for any substantial period of time. Tbh I don't know how Phoenix could when he has the magatama.
Phoenix's nature is extremely trusting, almost to the point that it gets him killed or in serious trouble (see Dahlia/Matt Engarde). Left to his own devices, I think he might have trusted Kristoph, especially since Kristoph came to him at a time when he was extremely low and isolated. We obviously don't know the aftermath of Phoenix's last trial but I get the impression that he pushed everyone away b/c of his general inability to ask for help from anyone besides Mia.
But Phoenix also isn't stupid, is heavily dependent on the magatama, and I think by the end of the trilogy and certainly after his last trial, has been forced to become less trusting. He would have been suspicious of Klavier (how did Klavier immediately know to be suspicious of the diary page when Phoenix himself didn't know it was forged and only just got it?) and it would be foolish to not at least ask Kristoph a few questions, given his obvious and close ties to Klavier. Kristoph would lie to Phoenix - how would Phoenix know he was lying, after all - which would trigger the magatama. After that, ofc Phoenix would be suspicious of him.
Basically, I don't really see how Phoenix could have ever trusted Kristoph for any extended period of time unless like the magatama stopped working or something? And I think this interpretation is supported by the games. At some point in aa4 there's this conversation b/w Phoenix and Kristoph:
Phoenix: For seven years we've been friends and yet, I still don't understand you.
Kristoph: But Wright, your "friendship" towards me was never pure.
This could just be Kristoph speculating or being bitter in hindsight but I think the fact that even Kristoph picked up on the fact that Phoenix never actually trusted him is pretty telling. It's also interesting b/c Phoenix canonically has a good poker face so that means he either didn't care or deliberately wanted Kristoph to know that he didn't trust him. Given that Phoenix was probably trying to stay close to Kristoph to figure out what exactly was happening, you would think that would be the opposite of what Phoenix wanted. It would be easier to get Kristoph's guard down if he thought Phoenix trusted him, after all.
My best guess here is that Phoenix realized that Kristoph was such an arrogant little shit that it didn't really matter if he knew or didn't know that Phoenix was suspicious. So why not be openly hostile? Given that Kristoph's elitism/arrogance plays so strongly into his own downfall, I think that could be a fun narrative beat.
lololol either way, they really have a fun dynamic to speculate about! Thanks for the ask anon <3

I'd be remiss if I didn't give y'all some of my favorite adlibbed lines from the Silly Voices friend group that I voice the AA games with because holy fuck
Miles: Wright!
Phoenix: Left.
-
Miles: Simon Blackquill, a young prosecutor at the time, was found guilty of the crime.
Miles: I have sick rhymes, yo.
-
Athena: Simon keeps getting upset with me for stacking plus 2 Uno cards.
Simon: You can’t stack plus twos Cykes-chan, it’s not in the rules!
-
Phoenix: Now Athena didn’t commit this crime- but I don’t think prosecutor Blackquill is guilty either.
Simon: You and your third person.
Athena: He does that a lot, huh?
Simon: Yeah.
-
Klavier: I’ll have you know, I wasn’t peeking at ladies; I was trying to put my statue back together.
Apollo: You know what- that is actually- yeah... yeah, that tracks.
Phoenix: When you’re finished with yours can you help me with mine?
-
Athena: He’s calling your theory a work of fiction, Boss.
Phoenix: (And he’s right. I don’t have any proof yet. Still.)
Athena: Well don’t just say it.
Phoenix: No, I’m thinking it. See the blue brackets?
Athena: ..... Oh that’s what those are for; I was wondering.
-
Apollo: Also doesn’t something seem very strange to you? Like, box shaped, strange?
Athena: Mhmm- no- what do you mean, there’s no box there. She’s perfectly hidden.
Klavier: Ja, it looks like a game I played once as a kid.
Athena: Also you can’t see her unless you have the red exclamation mark.
-
Miriam: sss, sss, sss. Don’t tell me. So, in short, that’s...
Athena: Hm? Hey!
Miriam: I should’ve been whispering, sHIT

Inspired by my wife, I've been thinking about board game traditions among the Ace Attorney cast (specifically scrabble cause I'm currently obsessed):
Growing up, the Von Karma household had the most gruelling scrabble games; MVK would use it as a chance to pit Franziska and Edgeworth against each other and no one would have fun. The game would last all day because both of them would rather play a word that gets them like 15 fewer points than open up any bonus point spaces for the other, so within three turns the board is complete hell. There was also always a large dictionary on the table, but using it was considered a sign of weak mindedness - unless of course it's to prove that your opponent has just played an invalid word (which would lose them their turn, and get them mercilessly mocked for the next year).
In the Wright household Trucy and Phoenix play it as a pure bluffing game - they spend the whole time trying to get in each others heads and goading the other person into either letting an obviously fake word through, or losing their turn by challenging incorrectly.
Finally try as I might to imagine it, the Gavins don't play board games. They play croquet. Kristoph is absolutely brutal (especially given the age gap) in how hard he will knock Klavier's ball away when he gets the chance and always aims for the bushes. Which also means their parents have to come up with a special rule for Kalvier when fetching it out of the bushes, which is that he can take Two Big Steps back towards the croquet hoops before putting his ball down. This only encourages Kristoph to hit it further.
