someone just asked me about my earlier post: why would percy be crowd surfing? people only put in the effort to hold up a celebrity or a rockstar

why you ask?

the long answer:

because everybody loves percy. no i don’t mean that literally. of course his enemies hate him. but like… come on! it’s percy! everybody loves percy! he’s hilarious! he’s a goofball. he could win the olympics in the sarcasm section. he has the biggest heart in the whole world. he’s such a blast to be around. he’s fun and nice and constantly dropping comments that make people laugh so hard that they cry and pee their pants a little. he’s just that guy. he’s awesome. he’s the actual best.

everybody loves percy

he’s the umtimate hero. especially at camp half blood. everyone who went to camp with him adores him, and everyone who came to camp after he left hears his name everywhere they go. he’s a legend there. he’s a renowned warrior and sword fighter. he went on multiple successful quests. there were TWO great prophecies about him. he was offered and turned down godhood. he led the greeks into battle numerous times and came out victorious every time. he’s their leader. their soul. he’s the heart of the greeks. alongside annabeth chase, the man fell into tartarus and walked out through the doors of death. the son of poseidon is a greek hero.

all the romans at camp jupiter have such a high respect for him. i mean he was only actually there for like a total of 2-3 days, casually interacted with 2 major gods, successfully led a high-stake quest, saved the whole camp, and was raised on a shield and made praetor - the highest of honors. even after he gave up his position, he is still good friends with reyna, their long standing praetor, and bffs with frank, their new praetor. in fact, percy is franks hero. frank looks up to percy. so even if a roman didn’t witness percy save the camp and become praetor, you think they wouldn’t think incredibly highly of him after seeing how much of a deep respect both their current praetors hold for the former preator? plus everyone knows the stories. the son of neptune is a roman hero

loyalty for percy runs deep at both camps.

then there are the people who have no idea who he is. strangers. teenagers. college kids. but even then, everybody loves percy. he walks into a room, is immediately accepting and kind towards everyone, and starts saying the funniest damn things anyone’s ever heard. he’s a ton of fun. always playful and joking around. plus, he’s just a cool guy. even if you don’t know how awesome he is in the world of the gods, he’s a tall handsome dude with the absolute best smile. not to mention he has a lot of cool skills. he skates, he rides horses, he can ride a motorcycle (albeit illegally), im gonna take a guess and say he’s become quite a talented surfer since moving to california, etc. girls all have huge crushes on him and guys all think he’s the most chill dude ever. he’s the guy who walks into a party, makes friends with the dj, the bartender, and everyone he talks to. hes just that guy.

the short answer:

it doesn’t matter if you’re a greek, a roman, or a typical mortal. percy jackson is always the coolest guy in the room. whether you’ve known him for years and fought alongside him in battle, or if you met him 10 minutes ago when he gave you a big smile and said something that made you throw your head back laughing,

everybody loves percy.

so yeah, if percy jackson jumps (or is pushed) onto a crowd to crowd surf, every single person is happily holding up him

So I recently had a not-so-nice anon in my inbox asking why I write for desi readers when ‘barely anybody who is actually desi’ reads my works. I chose not to respond to their original ask because it has a few racist stereotypes, not to mention blatant insults.

First off, I’m sure that’s not true. I refuse to believe that on this enormous site with well over a million people there is not one desi who watched ATSV and fell in love with its characters, and wanted to see more of themselves in readers. I refuse to believe that because I know for a fact it’s not true; I’m moots with a few desi writers and let me tell you even if they don’t necessarily write fics targeted towards explicitly Indian readers, their works are still fantastic and yes, they read my desi fics. (vee silvia shoutout to u guys ily ❤️) And I’m sure that there are others, too. Maybe they don’t read my writing but I’m sure they’ve searched for a fic that has a protagonist that they can relate to, at least once.

That first part may not have made any sense but anyway — secondly, it is not my duty to have to write for everyone else. I can very well choose to write about my own culture and my own experiences if I want to. I write desi readers because in a way, ATSV helped me love my culture and my background. And now, I want to introduce other people to my experiences, and to my culture, because I think it’s beautiful. I personally LOVE reading fics with Latina (or any ethnicity at all) readers that highlight parts of their culture. I love reading about cultures that I previously wouldn’t know much about.

Anyway, to summarise this: fuck you anon I’m just gonna write more desi-centred fics 😊

I usually post Lolibrary content on the site's facebook page, and not my personal Tumblr, but this is a little more personal. This is my 5,000th Lolibrary entry. Lolibrary celebrated it's 13th birthday last month, and as of right this second we have 84,951 published entries.

I did the math a couple days ago for a post on the FB or twitter, and for lolibrary as a whole, it comes out to something wild like 17 entries per day. And that is 'counting' the fairly long time around 2018 when we couldn't make entries at all.

I'm not the biggest contributor to lolibrary. That is Onlyeasy, who entered more than 1/5th of the content on lolibrary and recently has retired from being an active senior lolibrarian. Followed by our late founder, Amethystcitrine. Amy entered more than 1/10th of the content currently on lolibrary. Lately, I was thinking 'I should record some videos on how to add measurements' because that seems to trip up a lot of new contributors. And, I keep thinking about the videos she made, which makes me really miss being able to talk to her about lolibrary.

The 3rd biggest contributor to lolibrary is theladymienshao (9.22%) who currently enters Baby/Pirates, and then Sucre-Dolls (6.94%) who enters Angelic Pretty. I am so impressed by the constant updates of the new items, because I've never been able to do that.

The person with the next most entries is azuki-mikan (pita-tenshi), again, absolutely fantastic, azuki-mikan has made 7.3% of the entries.

And then me, I'm 6th with 5.88% of the entries. So, I'm definitely not the most active when it comes to entering items. I do some other things with lolibrary, like I make most of the Facebook and Twitter posts (which is why they are very inconsistent). I also count up when an indie brand goes over the minimum threshold for tag, and the minimum threshold for being promoted to a brand, and then recently I've been manually moving the entries across for those too. I also did a lot of the manual checking on the shoe entries when we imported those in recently, and like all the other senior lolibrarians who are active, I do some of the pending submission approvals. And of course, I do some degree of book research & scanning with my magazine & catalog collection, some degree of item identification, etc. I also spend a lot of my time adding images to existing partial listings to flesh them out. But there are other people who do other tasks that aren't entering items too. Like Sage-Blossom who does a ton of corrections & tag clean up work, for example. And our development team who do the coding, and one of our other admins who handles all of the legal and financial pieces so we can pay our bills and maintain our status as a non-profit. And then there are a lot more very active contributors too! I think one of my favorite things about lolibrary is that it is a community project and it is made up of lots of people doing lots of different things. I think also that's one of the reasons that lolibrary has had the longevity it has had. And through it, I've met a lot of wonderful people who I absolutely think the world of. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm very glad that lolibrary exists, and I hope it continues on for many years to come. <3
