“Miami Vice:” The Series Finale
Crockett and Tubbs embark on one last rodeo before parting ways in the series finale of “Miami Vice.”
Tumblr media
Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, as they appeared in the series finale of “Miami Vice,” titled “Freefall.” (NBC)
It was the show that hit it out of the park. Starting with a timeless pilot episode directed by Michael Mann, theme composed by Jan Hammer, and stars Don Johnson (Crockett) and Philip Michael Thomas (Tubbs), “Miami Vice” encapsulated the height of 1980s fashion and pop culture.
They routinely went undercover in Miami’s criminal underworld as members of the fictional Miami police vice squad. They also drove nice cars (Ferrari Daytona and Testarossa, Cadillac Coupe de Ville), dated beautiful women, and Crockett lived on a yacht in Biscayne Bay called St. Vitus Dance (most recently docked in Key West).
It was a life of vice, and they were just living it.

The last episode of “Miami Vice,” the 21st and 22nd of the fifth season and 113th and 114th overall, first aired in prime time Sunday, May 21, 1989 on NBC.
In “Freefall,” Crockett and Tubbs are recruited by the feds to protect a corrupt South American dictator involved in illicit drug trade, as the two find themselves increasingly disillusioned with the work of vice.
Original supporting cast members Michael Talbott (Stan), Saundra Santiago (Gina), and Olivia Brown (Trudy), as well as Edward James Olmos (Marty), appear in the two part, two hour conclusion of the series.

V: Agent
Timeline: 2009-2018 Plot Ideas/Inspo
What was intended to be a much wanted dig season in Egypt was cut short, hopes dashed by the Bureau calling her into service. Established in the new Rockies Headquarters, Kar settles into her duty...with only minimal complaint. The little girl from Fairfield was now a strong-willed and outspoken woman who wasn't afraid to give Director Manning s piece of her mind.
When not in the field, Kar is relegated to research, given she is one of the few Agents who are multilingual and her near perfect recall helps sifting through the archives immensely.
Barely two years in, she crosses paths with furthered weakened Hecate, admitting a defeat of sorts and conferring her title and powers to her daughter. Kar agrees, but having wanting to remain in the mortal realm a little longer, ask that it will only officially happen with her death. Hecate sees the terms as amenable, passes her knowledge to Kar, and "retires" to the depths of Tartarus. Kar's deferred ascendancy causes the vacuum of which Nimue uses to take power.
Out of new wave of agents, Kar becomes fast friends with Ashley and Fenix. Panya is a grounding force, and enjoys Kar's visits. (Her Middle Egyptian is quite well, and gives the mummy some small joy to speak freely in her mother tongue). Even if her dig never came to fruition, Panya gives Kar a way to experience its history no archaeologist has.
By 2012 Kar grows more concerned. Her mothers, who were somewhat frequently in contact with her, have not spoken to her in over a year. The Zinco black out on the East Coast gives her concerns, but there is always a bigger issue elsewhere.
During the raid of New York, she learns her mothers' fate: skeletal remains in the ruins of her childhood home. After taking what few keepsakes survived, she asked Liz to cremate the remains and grieves in the ruins of central park, a particular place the three often spent.
It would be the last tie to the mortal realm lost; in her rage she would finally take her Hem form in the final battle.
After the death of Devon, it was no surprise Kar inherited the role of Director of Field operations-- given she'd been Kate's unofficial apprentice since she was knee high.
In the end, it would take a Hem to reseal the Ogdru Jahad. Using magic learned for her mother, she would use herself as a catalyst to sever Rasputin's ties to the Ogdru Jahad and seal both in their respective prisons. The cost was great, but her life to make sure this ends? It was an agreeable bargain.
What felt like ages in the underworld was only a few weeks in the mortal realm. Her return surprised many-- for the better. She would return to more lighter duties until the death of Thomas Manning.

Chiribiquete National Park, the largest protected area in Colombia, is distinguished by its tepuis, tabletop peaks that rise abruptly from the rainforest. The area, with waterways that feed into the Amazon, is one of the world’s most biodiverse and is home to many unusual endemic species.
Rarely Seen Cliff Art Reveals The Majesty Of The Amazon’s Aquatic Realm
In a two-year expedition, a National Geographic photographer is documenting the mighty river and the greater ecosystem from the Andes to the Atlantic.
— Story and Photographs By Thomas Peschak | March 22, 2023
Two jaguars leap into the river, lunging at pacas. These oversize rodents, with blotched and striped coats, are agile swimmers. Piranhas, attracted by the commotion, hover nearby.
I’m photographing this riveting scene, but I’m not underwater as I usually am when I’m on assignment. Instead of diving to see this aquatic life, I’ve climbed to a rocky ledge far above a rainforest. The jaguars, pacas, and piranhas are not flesh and blood; they are prehistoric artworks painted with hematite, a blood-red iron oxide, in exquisite detail. I am in awe, as if seeing the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel for the first time.
These pictographs in Colombia’s Chiribiquete National Park, tens of thousands of years old, are evidence of humankind’s long relationship with the world’s greatest freshwater ecosystem. I’m part of the National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition, working closely with other National Geographic Explorers doing critical research in the hope of securing the future of this watery realm, which has been neglected by science and the media.
The rainforests, an essential and endangered counterweight to climate change, have overshadowed the mighty river. From the Andes to the Atlantic, the Amazon flows for 4,150 miles, the main artery of a web with more than a thousand tributaries and tens of thousands of streams in an area the size of Australia. For two years, I will photograph the river, from high in the mountains to far out into the ocean. Unlike most storytellers who have ventured here, I will dive below the surface to reveal a rarely glimpsed aquatic underworld.

In the cosmology of the Tikuna, one of the largest Indigenous groups in the Amazon, pink dolphins are mischievous spirits and guardians of the watery realm. Elders Nuria Pinto and Pastora Guerrero join dancers wearing dolphin costumes made from the inner bark of the sapucaia tree. (Top)
Jaguars leap at pacas while piranhas swim on a panel known as “Hojarasca” (“Fallen Leaves”). More than 75,000 paintings have been discovered in Chiribiquete. Some are 20,000 years old, making them the most ancient rock art in the Americas. The pictographs show fauna and flora, people, and geometric patterns. Large jaguars and aquatic life are common motifs. (Bottom)
A few months ago, I photographed at my geographical starting point, the peak of Nevado Mismi in southwestern Peru, the farthest point from the Amazon’s mouth, where the waters flow uninterrupted all year. I’m in Chiribiquete to explore a different type of beginning and origin.
Here, the Amazon’s first storytellers painted the most ancient visual stories ever found in the Americas. More than 75,000 paintings have been discovered in more than 70 murals, cementing the park as the Louvre of rock art in the Americas. The pictographs include fauna and flora, people, and geometric patterns. Jaguars, sometimes life-size, are one of the most common motifs—each with a unique pattern of rosettes or lines.
Tumblr media
The ancient shaman artists chose the most spectacular locations to create their pictographs. The “Hojarasca” (“Fallen Leaves”) panel—the jaguars hunting pacas among piranhas—is located on the pillar at the far left, behind the one in the foreground. This expedition was only the ninth to be granted permission to explore the vast Chiribiquete National Park. (Top)
The expedition base camp was set up on a small patch of uneven rock that turns into a furnace during the day, with the solar-heated rock baking the air in the tents to more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The lack of shade and overwhelming number of sweat bees made the location nowhere near as idyllic as it first appeared. (Bottom)
I am with a small team, which includes aquatic biologist and National Geographic Explorer Fernando Trujillo and archaeologist Carlos Castaño-Uribe. A group of Colombian climbers and jungle specialists is with us so we don’t get lost in the trackless wilderness. We are only the ninth expedition to be granted permission to explore Colombia’s largest park, which protects a spectacular landscape of dense rainforest and soaring tabletop mountains called tepuis.
For 25 years I have documented our planet’s wildest seas, first as a marine biologist and later as a photojournalist. I am well versed in how not to get bitten by a shark or crushed by a feeding whale, but I am a neophyte in the jungle. In my defense, Chiribiquete is an incredibly difficult place to explore, and the ancient artists chose some of the most inaccessible locations.
Tumblr media
A Challenging Landscape
The helicopter takes off from the small airport of San José del Guaviare in south-central Colombia; the landscape below is a patchwork of cattle pastures and grasslands. Finally an unbroken carpet of pristine rainforest rolls out to the horizon. When the first mountains appear, the pilot descends, and we navigate through canyons so narrow that I can almost reach out and touch the cliffs. We land on a scrap of uneven rock. The helicopter barely fits.
The location appears idyllic, but it feels as if we’ve set up camp on a furnace. As the sun heats the rock, it bakes the air in our tents to more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I try to fall asleep, desperate for a breeze. My sweat forms wetlands on my mattress.
Tumblr media
A helicopter is key to getting to and around Chiribiquete, as the terrain is extremely rugged and difficult to traverse on foot. To reach rock art painted in some of the most inaccessible places means rappelling down cliffs, bushwhacking through thick rainforest, and battling unrelenting bees. (Top)
National Geographic Explorer and scientist Fernando Trujillo (far left) and his team examine a boto, or pink dolphin, a keystone species in Amazonian rivers. Their assessments, which follow established safety protocols, provide critical information about the health of not only dolphin populations but also the rivers. (Bottom)
We wake to the sound of tens of thousands of tiny helicopters. The sweat bees are here. Soon the entire camp—camera cases, boots, clothing, plates, cutlery, anything left outside—is draped in bees. I make the mistake of leaving my tent zipper slightly cracked and before long end up with dozens of roommates. I let the bees quench their thirst from the sweat lake in my belly button. Resistance is futile. The bees overwhelm us. They crawl into our noses and ears; one even slips beneath my eyelid. A head net becomes mandatory.
The lowlands adjacent to rivers that flow through the park have hardly any sweat bees, but we were advised not to stay there. Remnants of FARC rebel forces are said to use these rivers when the water is high enough. I prefer bees to AK-47s.
Once, on an expedition in 2017, Trujillo woke in the early hours of the morning to the sound of footsteps. Thinking it was another researcher, he went back to sleep. The next morning, the scientists discovered smaller footprints, barefoot, in step with their boot prints. Indigenous Karijona, Murio, or Urumi people—uncontacted or living in isolation since violent encounters with rubber tappers in the 1800s—inhabit the headwaters of the park’s most important rivers. More than 50 miles of difficult terrain separate them from our campsite, but before falling asleep, I listen intently for the rustle of leaves or the crack of a twig.
Tumblr media
Streams and rivers that flow from rocky plateaus run clear and are habitat for unique plants and animals. In the Serranía de la Macarena, a mountain range northwest of Chiribiquete, endemic Macarenia clavigera turns red in sunlight but remains green in shaded waterways. (Top)
A wolffish (Hoplias malabaricus) rests beneath a waterfall in the Caños Cristales River in the Serranía de la Macarena, obscured by a curtain of aerated water and camouflaged against a rocky ledge. This ambush predator waits for small schooling fish to swim within reach before lunging explosively and swallowing prey whole. (Bottom)
In the 1940s, Harvard ethnobotanist Richard Evans Schultes was the first scientist to note what he called Indian paintings on Chiribiquete’s cliffs. But he didn’t realize he was surrounded by one of the most extensive rock art repositories. This became apparent only in the 1980s when a storm pushed Castaño-Uribe’s Cessna off course and he spotted a mountain range that wasn’t on any of his maps. He returned to explore, saw the pictographs, and decided to devote his life to Chiribiquete. Not only did he publish the first detailed descriptions of the paintings and connect them to Indigenous cosmology, but he was also instrumental in the park’s establishment in 1989, expansions in 2013 and 2018, and selection as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2018.
The oldest paintings here have been radiocarbon-dated to 20,000 years ago, but the youngest are from the 1970s, and compelling evidence shows that some are even more recent. On another expedition, Castaño-Uribe found a small hearth with animal bones and pigments beneath some paintings, indicating the art continues to be meaningful in Indigenous cosmology and ceremonial activities.
Hacking, Hiking, Rappelling
Before our expedition began, Castaño-Uribe consulted a shaman in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a mountain range near the Caribbean coast. To ensure a safe return and appease the spirits of the sites, the shaman advised him that we should make an offering of tobacco—sacred to many Amazonian Indigenous groups—before approaching the paintings. At the base of a sandstone tower, Castaño-Uribe passes around fat cigars that would not look out of place during a poker game. We puff vigorously, bathe ourselves in smoke, place our palms on the rock, and earnestly state our intentions. For extra measure, Castaño-Uribe exhales smoke over each of our heads.
Only then do we begin to explore.
Tumblr media
Sweat bees swarm videographer Otto Whitehead. Within minutes hundreds landed on him to lap up the nutrients and proteins in his perspiration. At least 11 species of the stingless bees abound on Chiribiquete’s tepuis. For this expedition a head net was essential gear. (Top)
The Caño Cristales carves these pits, known as giant’s kettles. They’re sculpted when hard pebbles fall into small cavities and are tumbled around by the current, over time scouring the cavity to form round pocks in the quartzite riverbed. (Bottom)
After hours of hacking through dense foliage, a dark canyon spits us out onto a narrow ledge next to a vertical cliff. We are at a site named “Los Gemelos” (“The Twins”). The rock art depicting stingrays, otters, and turtles is magnificent—and fiercely protected by bees. This time not the annoying stingless sweat bees but more virulent honeybees.
In less than half an hour the team collectively endures more than a hundred stings. We retreat, but the bees follow, and a rock wall that requires a fixed rope to climb becomes a bottleneck. Castaño-Uribe and I are waiting when he decides he has had enough of being stung. He bypasses the rope and, in a crouched run, scales the near-vertical 30-foot cliff, leaping from tree root to tree root, from branch to branch, Tarzan style. Not wanting to be left to the mercy of the belligerent bees, I follow, and despite being 15 years younger, I struggle to keep up.
Every morning we set out by helicopter and then on foot, climbing steep and densely forested slopes, rappelling down cliffs, and hauling ladders to navigate dark and damp canyons. Less than a half hour into one ascent I am close to collapsing because of my armored fashion choices. I’m layered up with thick combat pants, two shirts, gloves, a head net, and a pair of snakebite gaiters. I will do whatever it takes to protect myself from enemies, both real and imagined.
Tumblr media
The park’s mountains soar from the rainforest floor, creating complex microclimates. Rising water vapor feeds the clouds, accelerating the formation of rain. More than half the precipitation in the Amazon stems from its own evaporation and transpiration. A fifth of the world’s fresh water is in the Amazon Basin. (Top)
Archaeologist Carlos Castaño-Uribe is dwarfed by a rock art panel named “Los Gemelos” (“The Twins”). These pictographs of jaguars, otters, stingrays, and turtles are stunning—and fiercely protected by honeybees. After enduring more than a hundred stings, the expedition team abandoned this site in a hurry. (Bottom)
The ferocious sting of bullet ants, a whopping 4 on the Schmidt pain index, is described as akin to walking across hot coals with a three-inch nail embedded in your heel. The potentially lethal fer-de-lance is responsible for most of the snakebites in the Amazon region. The bite of a female phlebotomine sand fly could infect me with disfiguring leishmaniasis. With every labored step in the stifling heat, I ask myself again and again what I’m doing in the Amazon.
I remind myself that this is just one chapter in my journey. Soon I will be back in my element, underwater, photographing species that are so outlandish that they could have been extras at the Star Wars cantina. Pink dolphins use sonar to navigate flooded woodlands. The arapaima, an armored fish that weighs as much as a silverback gorilla, leaps from the water like a marlin. Electric eels, like swimming batteries, deliver 600-volt shocks powerful enough to kill a human. Black freshwater stingrays with bright yellow spots rest in the leaf litter of drowned forest floors.
My National Geographic Explorer collaborators include some of the Amazon’s most accomplished scientists: Fernando Trujillo, João Campos-Silva, Ruthmery Pillco Huarcaya, Angelo Bernardino, Thiago Silva, Baker Perry, and Hinsby Cadillo-Quiroz. They’re doing groundbreaking work on pink dolphins, arapaimas, spectacled bears, mangroves, flooded forests, climate change, and mercury pollution. Next year, National Geographic will devote an entire issue of the magazine to the Amazon, featuring my photographs and their studies.
Finding Inspiration From the Earliest Amazon Artists
Famed 19th-century naturalists like Henry Walter Bates, Alfred Russel Wallace, and Alexander von Humboldt produced beautiful illustrations of what they had seen on their explorations in the Amazon River Basin. But I came to Chiribiquete to see the work of the first people in the Amazon to depict fauna and flora, specifically the aquatic animals I hope to photograph. On sheer rock walls, they painted fish, turtles, caimans, and other life-forms.
Over our five days in Chiribiquete, we saw hundreds of pictographs. The “Hojarasca” (“Fallen Leaves”) panel, with jaguars hunting pacas among piranhas, spoke to me the most. The way they’re painted on an overhang evoked the sense that I was underwater looking up as the scene played out above.
Tumblr media
Lowland tapirs eat aquatic plants and walk underwater as hippos do. Juveniles have stripes and spots that help camouflage them. This one is a rescued orphan that will be rewilded. In between feedings, it’s free to explore forests and scrublands on a cattle ranch in the Serranía de la Macarena.
Castaño-Uribe thinks these paintings were likely made by shamans and played a role in religious rituals. Through the ingestion of sacred plants, Baniwa shamans believe they can transform into jaguars and talk with spirits. To the Tikuna, pink dolphins are sacred, feature in their dances, and are said to dwell in malocas, or longhouses, at the bottom of the river. Anacondas are often considered the creators of the universe, and a Desano legend tells of a giant snake that ascended the Amazon carrying the ancestors of all mankind on its back.
The shamans likely painted to communicate with supernatural beings to ensure balance between humans and the rest of nature. I tell stories because our relationship with Earth’s biodiversity urgently needs recalibration. The Amazon’s aquatic world is threatened by dams, mining, overfishing, pollution, and climate change. Gazing at these vivid, timeless pictures, I feel deeply connected to these artists and their paintings. I realize we are telling similar stories, and I hope my images stand the test of time even a fraction as well as theirs.

Saved by the Devil (7/?) - Tommy Shelby
Summary: You have a talk with some friends and get a little job offered
Paring: Tommy Shelby x fem!reader (Not romantic...yet)
A/n: this took me so long to write. I hope you like it. Have a wonderful day:)
You walked through the streets on London feeling lost and uneasy. The state record of your father was there, written officially: he was declared dead. You felt like you were going crazy for not even trusting the piece of evidence. You asked the secretary about a million questions about how they even go about certifying a death. The woman looked at you as if you were crazy and you probably looked it. None of the cuts were healed, parts of your face were beginning to bruise, and the stich on your hand was horrendous. At least you didn’t reek of alcohol. It bothered you that the certificate under cause of death read “suicide”. You distinctly remember Sabini tell you that your father had got himself killed.
‘Why stage it like a suicide and then tell the underworld you killed him? Couldn’t you have just paid the cops to look the other way?’ A million more questions swarmed your way non of which the secretary could answer.
And so you left the place walking slowly back home feeling odd. Dead is dead right you don’t need the details. You don’t want them. You tell yourself this as you get home, telling yourself that the uneasy feeling was from the physical night before not because someone was watching you.
‘I’m not safe staying here’ You think to yourself. You start fantasizing about all the different places you could disappear to, the new life you could create for yourself. You just needed enough money to so. That wad of cash underneath your bed was good for a boat ride and hotel stay, not for entire life change. You were gonna need to start saving and earning, more fast. The air was changing and not for the better.
Once you get home, you can see a lamp on in the window. You try to walk past the figure sitting in the living room, but their voice rings out stopping you from making another move.
“(Y/n), we need to talk.” Ada says.
“What about?” you ask sitting opposite of her in the living room.
“Its about Tommy,” she pauses a minute trying to gauge your reaction, you don’t give any. She sighs, “I just want you to be careful around him.”
You raise an eyebrow, confused from where this is coming from. “What do you mean?”
“I mean are you gonna keep coming home looking half dead with my brother having to carry you in here with no sort of explanation?”
“I’m sorry about that.” You apologize knowing she must have been scared out of her mind seeing you like that. You would have been too had it been her or Trinity.
“What are you even thinking working for him? Didn’t you want out of your father business, aren’t you on some guys shit list?” Ada takes a deep breath calming herself.
“I have it under control.” You can hear Ada groan in frustration. You understand why she was so defensive about this. Her family was dangerous and to be around them was like being around death itself. At least that’s how Ada put it.
“No you don’t just look at yourself!” She sternly says, pointing a finger at you.
You stifle a laugh from your throat at how motherly she looks, “Ada, please save the parenting for Karl.”
She rolls her eyes at your jest and gets up from the couch. “Are you gonna work for him again?”
 “If I need the money...”
“I told you don’t have to pay rent while you stay here. You can take as long as you need to find steady job.”
You fake a smile and nod your head, “You’re right.” You didn’t want to bring up the unease you’ve been feeling. Or the need to flee the country based on a little paranoia that may just go away. It was unfair to her to place  this burden upon her when she's finally made it out of feeling that way herself. But you’ll be damned if you weren’t gonna at least prepare yourself for the uncertain future.
  *******************************************************************************************
Trinitys apartment was the same as it always has been. Neat to the point where it looked picture perfect. You always wondered when she had the time to keep tidy. You arrived early in the morning, knowing she would be up and that it would be the perfect time to cross into what you thought was still sabinis territory.
“You know your friend took over the Eden Club. I haven’t seen any of Sabini guys in awhile” Trinity says attempting to ease you as you keep looking out the window.
 “who?”
“The Shelby’s. I think it was his brother or whatever. I wasn’t there when it happened but I heard it was brutal.”
“What did sabini do?” You ask.
“no one heard from him or Alistair.” She states
“Hmm.” You say finding it odd the gangster hadn’t retaliated yet
“You know you can maybe work there again? If you asked nicely? The Shelby’s seem to like you.”
 “What makes you say that?”
“Oh please I was the first person ada called to tell me about you running off with her brother. Did you know they were related?”
 “No.”
She notices your lack of words. And though trinity wanted to be playful and tease her friend, she was worried.
 “Are you okay, (Y/n)?”
“Im thinking of leaving, trinity.” You say
 “Why? Where are you going?”
“Nowhere. Im just thinking.” You sip your tea lightly, feeling the soothing warmth go down your throat, “Something feels wrong.”
 “What is it?”
“I fear that something nefarious is upon me. And that it’s a matter of time before It decides to kill me.”
“You’re not gonna tell me, are you?”
“I need your help planning.” You say ignoring her questions. You didn’t want to subject her to your nightmares about your father which haven’t ceased at all. In face they were increasing in violence and color. Most of them drawing from memories. If it wasn’t your father that was alive coming to hunt you down, it was most likely a dedicated servant of his. You wondered who was was keeping the business going seeing as you didn’t take over and were the only child of your father. You had no other logical explanation of what the universe was trying to tell you with these dreams and gut feelings.
You open your purse revealing the wad of money from underneath your bed and papers of different id. “Your gonna hold this for me. When I need it ill come for it, if I add to it ill come here okay? Just make sure it stays hidden and untouched.”
She nods and takes it gently from your hands, “You’re being serious.”
 “Deadly.”
You stood for a couple more hours, talking and eating until the afternoon came. You said your goodbyes and were on your way back on the streets of London. You felt good about yourself after seeing Trinity. It felt like years since you seen her.
You hear the honking of an annoying horn bring you out of your thoughts. You see Tommy Shelby behind the wheel, a cocky grin on his face. He parks the car and you wait for him outside not wanting to sit in close proximity of him. He comes around, outing a cigarette loosely around his pink lips. He doesn’t light it.
“I was looking for you at Adas.” He says standing in front of you with hands in his pockets.
 “Hmm why?” You ask.
 “How are your stiches?”
“Fine,” your face grows warm as you think about the drunken thoughts you had about him. You had them caged up this time but you were now very aware of the fact that you had them, “what is that you want?” you ask avoiding his eyes, afraid of getting lost in them. You could not afford to grow any sort of attachment to the man. The stories you’ve heard, the warning you’ve gotten from his own sister, you know that he was no good.
“Take a ride with me.” He simply says walking away from you.
Your legs move before you think. Following his words like a sailor would a siren. You suddenly felt very self conscious around the man as you sat near him.
“Where is this coming from?” You think to yourself feeling stupid you begin to argue with yourself in your head trying to find the soure of this new unwanted attraction. Maybe you were still drunk. No its been days. Or maybe you were tired. Sleep has been hard to comeby these days.
You look across at him and study his features. He was a very handsome man, no doubt about it. You don’t realize how long you’ve been staring until he catches you.
 “What?” He asks
“Have you called May?” Your not sure why your mind went to that but it was.
He chuckles, “Are you really that interested in that?”
 “No, im just making conversation.”
“Well I did. Ill be seeing her later this week. See how shes training my horse.” He sends a smile your way before his eyes go back to the road.
The smile sends your stomach doing flips. “You know your not as scary as people make you seem, Mr.Shelby.” Another statement slipping from your lips.
“Trust me, I can be scary. Hand me that file”
He parks the car in front of lovely looking house, a guard standing outside the gates of it. You hand him the file, next to you on the seats and he fiddles through it. You stare at the house with the guard in front of it through the rearview mirror.
“Why are we parked here?” You ask you eyes trained to the rearview mirror
 “Had to make a stop.”
You see the guard notice the car and head towards you. He walks toward your window and leans in. “Sir,” The guard says totally ignoring your presence, “You cant park here.”
“Apologies, me and the Mrs. were just lost.”
“Well get a move on.” Thomas starts the car and moves it one block a way before parking again. He checks his watch.
“23 seconds,” He say to himself writing it down, “Are you gonna ask any questions?”
“I think I would rather leave this one alone.”
 “Smart girl.”
You end up driving 2 more hours around the city. He tells you about the Eden club takeover and how his brother Arthur is now running the game there. Sabini hasn’t been seen inawhile. Nor his most trustworthy comapnions
“Do you know Alfie solomons?” He asks
“I do.” Alfie Solomon’s to you was an unpredictable man, You never could predict what he was gonna say.
“I was gonna have Arthur have dinner with him alone. But Arthur doesn’tknow Solomon’s too well.”
 “Mr. Shelby-“
“I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t need to.” His eyes burn into your skull. You take all the self control you have to not turn your head and stare into them.
You think about the proposition and grow very hesitant. A part of you wants to take it and another part doesn’t. Quick money could be very useful to you but at what cost if its for situations like this. A dinner with gangsters could become deadly very quickly with one wrong move.
 “When is this dinner?”
 “Friday.”
“Ill give you answer before than” You say seeing it was Tuesday. You open the door to the car and walk out of it. You were beginning to suffocate under his stare and you needed to breath.
The air was crisp and refreshing to your lungs as you speedy walk down the streets making lefts and rights. The annoying horn returns to your ears as soon as you feel calm. You turn back around to scream when you realize its not the same car. It’s a black car with weird, tinted window, almost like a police car. The windows roll down, revealing a man with grey, busy eyebrows and mustache. His eyes held an evil glint in them
(Y/fn) (y/ln)?” He asks do it looked like he already knew the answer in his head that he knew who he had.
“Sorry wrong gal.” You lie turning around to get out for whatever situation that was.
“Get her boys.” You hear the man sigh. You feel large hands grab around your body and large funny smelly napkin forced against your mouth.
‘Chloroform’ you think as you pass out into the darkness.

Crime Syndicate Origins
Owlman, The World’s Deadliest Thief:
“My City, My Rules” Thomas and Martha Wayne were a beacon of hope in a world that often felt like it was teetering on the brink of oblivion. Wayne Sr’s hardline anti-crime campaign bringing an end to the criminal syndicates and consortiums that had all but ruled Gotham since the days of the first Power Ring, offering an oasis of stability in an Amerika still plagued by the Power Ring’s former confederates in the World Crime Society.
With Thomas as its architect, Gotham became a symbol of a world free from the yolk of supercrime but it was Martha’s humanitarian efforts in the wake of the First Markovian Oil Crisis that truly made the Waynes beloved. It would have been all too easy for her to remain within the neigh-impenetrable city-state her husband had crafted, instead, she chose to venture out into the world motivated by nothing more than a desire to help others. Amidst greed and corruption, Martha Wayne stood out as a true hero, continuing to direct relief efforts even as she entered the third trimester of her first pregnancy, giving birth to her first son shortly after her return to Gotham. A second child following less than four years later completing what many considered the picture of Amerikan nuclear bliss. Christened ‘The Dynamic Duo’ by the press, Bruce and Thomas Jr. were inseparable from a young age, spending hours exploring the cave systems that ran beneath stately Wayne Manor while crafting elaborate tales of secret sects and sinister cults heavily influenced by the lurid pulp novellas supplied to them by the family’s dotting butler Cuthbert Pennyworth.  Unfortunately, the two’s taste in fiction would lead to tragedy when Bruce and Thomas Jr. convinced their parents to take them to a midnight screening of The Mask of Fantômas in celebration of Bruce’s eighth birthday. Leaving the Gotham Midnight Theater, the family were held-up halfway along Park Row by Joe Chill, a man who would later be called “The Last Criminal in Gotham.”
Unwilling to hand over his wallet let alone his wife’s jewellery for fear of the damage it would do to his image, Thomas Sr. attempted to apprehend the mugger. Already on edge, Chill opened fire on the family, killing Bruce and Martha instantly and sending Thomas Jr. into a coma that lasted nearly ten days.
The deaths of Martha and Bruce, as well as Thomas Sr’s perceived role in them, formed a gulf between the two surviving Waynes, one which only increased as Thomas Jr. grew older. Publically flaunting petty criminal behaviour, the younger Wayne all but cut off contact with his father, spending most of his time in the company of Cuthbert who had increasingly come to view the boy as something of a kindred spirit. Revealing the death of his own brother and a history of criminal behaviour in a moment of drunken sincerity, Cuthbert’s tutelage in a range of petty crimes would serve as Thomas’ first steps in his journey towards super crime. At age 13, he was placed in a boarding school, his father no longer willing, or able, to deal with the boy’s behaviour. A scant six months later he would vanish, provoking a citywide manhunt that ended in him being declared a missing person, marking the start Thomas Sr’s increasingly draconian approach to criminal justice within Gotham City. Forced out of an already vestigial position within Wayne Enterprise’s, Wayne would dedicate all his energy to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy on all crime within the city even as he burned through what little goodwill the family name had left.
The sudden return of Thomas Wayne Jr. ten years later was treated by many as a second coming for a city that had once again fallen into a despair all too common in the world, his meteoric takeover the Wayne Enterprise’s seeing the company rededicate itself to charitable endeavours with a zeal that hadn’t been seen since Martha’s death. With the widespread refurbishment of many of the city’s poorest areas, the expansion of Wayne Towers in the heart of Gotham and the conversion of the now-abandoned Wayne Manor into The Bruce Wayne Memorial Orphanage, Thomas Wayne Jr. was viewed as a return to the behaviours of old, his open criticism of his father’s actions only further endearing him to a city desperately in need of a hero.  Unfortunately, that wasn’t what it got. Within three months of his return, the city was plagued by a series of brazen, ultraviolent crimes staged by an unknown figure seemingly striking at random and operating with an almost supernatural knowledge of the city. Owlman would reveal himself to the public in a shocking daylight assault on GCPD headquarters that left 15 officers dead and nearly a decade of impounded weapons and drugs stolen, an already damning failure on Wayne Sr’s part that was rendered worse by his public refusal of Wayne Enterprises offer to refurbish the gutted GCPD building.   The Owlman’s arrival would serve as a clarion cry for Gotham’s slumbering criminal element, with the covert aid of Owlman criminal organisations old and new established themselves with a vigour best exemplified by Big Jim Gordon, a discharged Chicago PD officer drawn to Gotham by the promise of easy money who quickly became a key power player in the New Gotham Underworld, acting as a direct go-between for Owlman and the various organisations established in his wake. That Gotham’s favourite son and the archfiend of its nightmares are one and the same is known to only two people. The ever-faithful Cuthbert and Thomas Sr., both perfectly aware of Owlman’s origin in a game shared between Bruce and Thomas as children. Drawn into an increasingly violent Cold War, the animosity shared between father and son promises to change the face of Gotham City forever.   Something a bit different, wee Crime Syndicate fact-fic dealing with mad wee bastard Owlman.

Hi! Do you know of any good recaps of the Dresden Files series so far? I’m hyped for the new book but have forgotten a lot of what’s going on ^^”
I don’t, unfortunately.
IMO, it is well, well worth rereading the short stories Bombshells and Cold Case if you can, because almost all the pertinent Molly stuff is in those: especially her involvement with the Fomor, and her relationship with Carlos. I’m actually surprised how important those stories are turning out to be in the grand scheme. Harry is living in the apartment that Molly gets in Bombshells - I feel like some people think that Molly got the apartment for Winter Lady reasons, but that’s not the case.
Also I’d reread Skin Game if you get the chance, for all the bank stuff and the escape from the Underworld.
But FWIW, I think the main thrust of Peace Talks is focused on the White Court, the White Council, Marcone, and the Fomor, so you might wanna read up on those guys.
Ebenezar is one big question mark with regards what happened between him and Margaret and why she chose to fall in with Lord Raith, and I think this book is gonna hopefully give us some answers there. The Black Council is still a thing, but it’s getting harder to differentiate between Black and White when literally every wizard under the sun now hates Dresden’s guts for his relationship with Mab.
Thomas and Justine were perfectly happy when we last saw them, but that might be about to change. I have no idea what the White Court’s prerogative will be in this book, whether they’re friend or foe, I just know they’re gonna be important bc Lara plays a big role in much of the promotional stuff we’ve gotten.
I can’t quite remember what Marcone’s goal has been with regards to Chicago since Changes, or whether that’s also one big mystery, but he is now the first vanilla mortal signatory of the Unseelie Accords, and he’s hosting the eponymous Peace Talks. He’s been gaining power and sticking his fingers in all sorts of pies since Dresden’s death - cosying up to Mab, Lara, Odin, Hades, and even gaining some traction with Murphy and the Paranet. He’s parked himself on top of Dresden’s old apartment, and he also has the Shroud of Turin now, so like... my boy’s maybe getting too big for his boots? Lord only knows how that will play out here.
Other than that, I’m not sure what else there is that needs recapping. There’s not gonna be any Denarians in this book (there’s enough to be getting on with without those guys throwing spanners in the works!), and I think the fairies will take a backseat this time around. Hopefully Jim Butcher will put in enough exposition to fill in the gaps, too.
