"How could he even begin to explain it? That he couldn’t just ask someone out just to lose him. Just for his mother to kill it before it even started. Her rules meant that he never got what he really wanted, those things that made his heart sing and made the world look a little more colourful. Riddle wasn’t ready to let his mother take this little scrap of joy from him, because she’d do it anyway. So, it was best for him to find a reason for the whole thing to never happen, to never allow himself to feel that particular happiness. Not till he could find a more suitable partner, although she’d probably done that already and had someone lined up for him back home."

( 〃．．) First time doing a pure text post, but I'm considering drawing twst rarepairs for the whole month of April like a challenge AKSJHAKSJAHS

I was supposed to do it during February, but I forgot to do it until around 2nd week and I really didn't properly plan this out, so I'm posting this today so I wouldn't forget again and to motivate myself LMAO

If anyone reading this does know some interesting twst rarepair, do feel free to share, so I can consider and perhaps add them to the list heheheh, but either way, I'm going to read some more vignette or do a roulette to see which ones gonna stick in my mind as so far it's just:

Trick or Treat~!

Pairing: Che'nya x Floyd (could be read platonically or romantically)

Summary: It's finally Halloween night, but Floyd is in a bit of a slump. However, the arrival of a curious companion may just make the Halloween party a bit more interesting for him.

Notes: This is my first attempt at something following a prompt - specifically, "Trick or Treat" for the 2023 TWST Rarepair Halloween event. I'm trying to get more comfortable/practiced with writing prose (which is why this wasn't posted on the 30th... oops), and only vaguely ended up following the prompt. I'm fairly happy with how this little piece turned out, though!

Floyd wanted to take a break. 

It was Halloween, and all he had done the entire week was work, work, work. Getting costumes ready, decorating, helping with their dorm's presentation, plus cooking and serving at the Lounge, all on top of normal classes? 

Sure, it was fun, especially getting to show off Octavinelle's cool setup, and 'taking care of' those misbehaving visitors. But now? Everything felt draining and boring, and Floyd simply wanted to leave, which sucked because the actual Halloween party had just started!  

Maybe he should just ditch and go back to his dorm; being in a funk when everyone else is having fun around you is not enjoyable.  He slumped down on a bench and unwrapped a sweet he had picked up earlier, before wrapping it up again. Ugh, not even in the mood for that candy he wanted only a few minutes ago. 

As he shoved the sweet back into his pocket and was about to get up from the bench to leave, Floyd heard a rustle behind him. Someone was quietly humming, and… laughing? The sound gradually moved to his side, towards the empty side of the bench.  

“Trick or treat~”

Floyd turned to face the voice. "Listen, man, I'm not in the mood to—” he froze, staring at the figure beside him. “Hang on a second, where's your body!?"

A toothy smile came to the face of the head that currently floated beside Floyd. "Oh, it's here.... or maybe it's there." A pair of hands materialized on either side of this boy's head, followed by the rest of his body. 

“I'm just kidding. Mind if I take a seat? I’d like to rest up before I keep purrowling around and startling people.”

Floyd blinked, then raised an eyebrow. “Uh, go for it.” 

This guy was... weird, and it was hard to tell if he'd be annoying, or interesting. "You don't go here, do ya? At least, I’ve never seen you before. And you’re no ghost, either.”

The cat-like boy shook his head, his jewellery jingling softly. "I'm just passing through for the festivities and collecting treats. Scaring some people, too. That’s loads of fun. And it's always nice to see my friends let loose." 

Floyd had a vague memory surface. "Ohh... you must be that RSA boy who's friends with Sea Turtle and Goldfishie." 

"'Sea Turtle' and 'Goldfishie', hey? Those are good names for my green and red friends. Cats are known for liking fish." He leaned forward, his grin growing. “Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Floyd nodded, “Floyd Leech. It's nice to meet you, too.” He looked curiously at the boy beside him, taking in his shaggy hair, piercings, and impish smile.

"You're not what I expected.” Floyd smiled, "But you seem fun, Catfish. I didn't think Goldfishie would get along with someone so... interesting."

Che'nya's eyes lit up slightly. "Catfish? Heh heh heh, most people call me Che'nya, but I guess that works. And I’ve heard some… interesting stories about you, too."

He stretched his legs out in front of him, leaning back with his arms behind his head as he sighed. "But yeah, I don't think Riddle could shake me if he tried." 

"I'm almost jealous." Floyd tipped his head slightly. "Most of the time, Goldfishie likes to swim away before I can play with him."

Che'nya laughed, "Well, if you're wondering, he 'swam off' that way." He pointed off to the side. “Just don’t be rough with him. I don’t like people mistreating my friends.”

Floyd looked off into the crowd where he had pointed, and let out a small laugh. “Alright, good to know. Maybe I’ll find him later, if I feel like it”, he smiled and sat back. “And Goldfishie’s stronger than he looks, but I guess you’d know that.”

Che’nya nodded, then leaned closer with a mischievous glint in his eye. "You know, I bet we could do something that would really surprise him.” 

Floyd turned slightly towards Che’nya, and flashed a smile. “Yeah, we probably could. I think we should talk more in the future, Catfish. You seem pretty fun.” 

Che’nya grinned, “You seem pretty fun, too.”

"Well,” he stretched his arms above his head. “I think I’m going to go and find some more treats… and play some more tricks tonight. I'll catch you around, Floyd." 

With a haunting giggle echoing in his ears, Floyd watched as the boy beside him faded into nothingness, just the same way he had arrived. 

What a weird guy.

Floyd unwrapped the candy he had pocketed earlier, then popped it into his mouth. Maybe this party was worth staying at after all.

So, I'm going to rewrite this post because my mind was a fucking mess when doing so the first time.

The ask was (not word for word quoted): "What is your favorite twst shipping?"

For future references, I usually don't ship with a romantic or sexual intention behind the ship unless I point it out. Mainly because I often forget that romantic feelings exist. I'm not a fan of minor x adult and especially not a fan of any kind of incest (whether found family or biological, both is a no go). So if you see me losing my shit over a ship/dynamic with inappropriate age differences: It's not because I'm a weirdo, I'm just an aromantic idiot.

I'm always trying to make it obvious whether it's a romantic ship or a platonic one but I might forget to do so sometimes, so have mercy with me.

Moving on to actually answer the question!

I have a selected few shippings/dynamics that I hold very dear to me and every week, I have a lethal brainrot over one of them. They always take turns like the polite little lads they are.

I'll try to keep the rambling about the shippings to a minimum

Leona x Vil (the current brainrot of the week, they're so exes with an on-off relationship, trust me)

Ruggie & Jamil (platonically, they're just best pals who could and will set the world on fire - They do have their soft moments together)

Jamil & Leona (platonically, two guys who will never be first because of the way they were born? Yessir, sign me up. Also Book 6? Mhm, delightful. Good soup)

Riddle x Floyd (Annoyance and their target of affection >>>>)

Leona & Ruggie & Epel (They're just besties/Brothers by heart man, I can't explain it. Especially Epel -> Leona)

Yes, I think that looks much better than the previous answer I've given. I'll put a stop on the list for now because trust me when I say: There are many more shippings/dynamics that I enjoy - Especially if they're rarepairs/Crack ships. The list above is just the top 8 of the list.

LEVI X GRISHA PERSON AAAHH 😭 It’s always so funny to learn how people are referring to us; I was the Zevi artist, the Shroudcest artist… For some reason, being a Guriri (wow Grisha’s and Levi’s shipname is cute, I completely forgot about it) artist feels like such a high honour lol Especially because I had no idea there was someone out there invested in this ship. Your friend’s taste is excellent. A huge thank you to them for enjoying our stuff, and a huge thank you to you for helping to find the uncensored version. You really are a great friend hehe.

It’s honestly a shame that even the pixiv version is still censored (albeit not cropped like the tumblr version), because you can’t really post uncensored stuff there… So now only a few people who had saved our snk smut back when it was posted on our now-deleted twitter have it :(

It is so much more likely to get people hurt than just enjoying the porn of some fake brothers fucking 😭

Anon! First of all, sorry for replying late; we received your ask about a week ago but I didn’t have enough time to properly address it. Second of all, thank you for talking about it and sharing your experience.

It’s just like you said; people really don’t want to get ridiculed or hated, especially younger people, therefore, they are afraid of liking stuff that is even slightly problematic. And for some of them, if they don’t want their so-called friends to suspect them loving problematic stuff, they’ll act even more aggressive than they should to overcompensate. I feel like when it comes to antis who talk about us specifically, the most vocal and persistent ones are those whose friends called them out for following my accounts or liking my drawings. And this is honestly both sad and pathetic at the same time; I cannot imagine how bad of a headspace this might be. I don’t pity them though lol

We always talk about it, but still: this is a game you can’t win because the rules are always changing. The only thing that never changes is that there is no nuance, once the crowd decide that the ship is bad, it’s bad. Starting out with the basics, age gaps and incest are bad, right? Right. But what if the characters aren’t canonically related but could be interpreted as brothers? Then it’s still bad, right? But what if they aren’t at all brotherly, but one of them expressed that they want to do bad things to the other? Sounds bad, right? And thus, the only type of dynamic that exists is a romanticised version of a perfect gay couple: they are equal in every way, they love each other, they are SUCH DORKS together who fit perfectly to any “redraw this as your ship” meme that’s the hottest thing these days, they don’t have arguments, they don’t have misunderstanding and rough moments. Their personalities, everything that made their relationship unique or interesting completely disappears and smoothes out, and after that it’s not even a ship, it’s just a nice blend that is perfect for consumption because it doesn’t irritate your teeth, your throat, or your stomach. It’s tasteless, it’s boring, it’s nothing, and it’s not about the characters, it’s about deciding which two characters are unproblematic enough to be transformed into blorbos, and if they have some problematic elements in-canon, it’s okay, we’ll just erase those because being unproblematic doesn’t really matter. What matters is to act in a way that doesn’t go against what the rest of them are doing, because otherwise you’re making people uncomfortable, and if they are uncomfortable with you, they feel morally correct for attacking you.

It’s never about characters. It’s always about control, about cliques, about bullying and making everyone afraid to have an actual opinion. It’s about instilling in people’s mind that attacking strangers on the internet makes you a cool person because you are simultaneously a rebel for being so ballsy and brave, and a saint for having moral standards so high that you can’t stomach bad things even if they are fictional.

Sometimes people just have different ships and that’s okay. Sometimes people don’t have any ships and don’t understand the shipping culture, and that’s okay. What’s not okay is to feel entitled to this control over the way others consume media and interact with it.

Because it makes the fandom experience boring at best and unbearable at worst.

Sorry, I digress lol What I wanted to say is that you are right, it messes with people’s brains. And it is much more unhealthy than fantasising about the things that are 100% fictional (which is, by the way, a huge part of their appeal).

It's a rarepair I made with my boyfriend a while back that came from me hyperfixating on a TWST side character and us having nobody to pair Ruggie with in a Soul Eater au, but after having them meet they ended up being SUPER cute and now this ship has completely melted my brain.

Ruggie x Najma.

I have MANY explanations but it's gonna be long so I'm using the little hider thing

First off is how they met! It fully depends on what I feel like making their first meeting that day, but I do have a "canon" one that is most often used as the start of their relationship.

Canon

Najma had missed Jamil a lot during his first year, so she wanted to surprise him the week before his birthday. She showed up with a basket of presents and food but realized she'd forgotten the name of his dorm. She stumbled into Savanaclaw on accident and was thoroughly confused the entire time. Still, she went to the dorm number she was told to go to and knocked on Ruggie Bucchi's door, even more baffled than before. Once she acknowledges that she's definitely lost, Najma introduces herself and asks for help finding Jamil's dorm. Ruggie takes her there personally in exchange for some tea, a few kebab skewers, and a cupcake. Najma, being Najma, thought Ruggie was cute, and as all overly bold 15 year olds do, she decided to walk into Savanaclaw AGAIN and feign being lost. This time, she managed to score Ruggie's number and proceeded to act clueless around the entire campus for the rest of the week. During their walks where he'd guide her to Scarabia, and seeing as he already caught on by the second day, they started talking less about Jamil and more about themselves, truly getting to know eachother over the course of the week. Eventually, Najma had to go home, and the two spent a lot of their free time messaging each other. Messaging grew into calling for an hour, then an hour turned to three, then the entire evening, and finally, it spread into the night. They fell asleep to the sound of each other's voice, and the two eventually started really liking the other. They started dating long distance, and when Najma turned 16 a few months after Ruggie turned 17, she managed to convince her father to let her visit Night Raven more frequently to "keep Jamil on track". She played right into her father's concerns just to see her boyfriend almost every weekend.

Angsty

Jamil's overblot was kept well under wraps by Kalim, but eventually, the Vipers had to learn about what happened. Of course, the Master Asim had been alerted immediately after, but he understood the delicacy of the situation and essentially bribed an entire hospital to shut up and treat Jamil as quietly as possible. Najma was sent to collect any of Jamil's personal items from his room, and she coincidentally ran into Ruggie in Scarabia. Ruggie had been paying Kalim a visit, and he happened to leave Kalim's dorm at the perfect second to watch a girl breaking into the missing vice's dorm. He, of course, asks her what she's doing, and because he's acting all accusatory, she looks at him with what can only be described as the Viper stare. He quickly realized that it's definitely one of Jamil's relatives and backs off, but she's already demanding he helps her since he wants to be nosy. Ruggie, who was just trying to score some points with his clearly unstable classmate, ends up helping her carry a few cardboard boxes of things Jamil would need during his hospital stay. Because Najma didn't know how to ride a broom, Ruggie had the pleasure of helping her walk the entire way to the Sage Island hospital, where Jamil insisted on being treated. The two chatted a bit, and after she cooled off a bit and became more friendly, Ruggie started to think she was actually kind of cute. Sure, Jamil might actually kill him over this, but he still took the chance to ask Najma to be friends and exchange contacts. They talked and he ended up being more of a friend to her than he intended, starting their relationship with the hopes of getting to flirt with a cute girl but instead genuinely falling in love with what was now his good friend. After Jamil recovered and Najma went back home, Ruggie nervously explained his feelings over text when she couldn't confront him in person. He was worried she'd dislike him, but she ended up asking to start casually dating first to see if they really worked with each other. It turns out they did, and Jamil is a constant reminder to Ruggie that he cannot fuck this up, that guy knows where he sleeps.

Soulmates

This one is INCREDIBLY simple, starting with the two coincidentally walking past the other before something just happens, and they slowly turn around to face each other. It was as if time stopped, and the two instantly clicked. They went to a cafe and talked for hours, finding every word their soulmate said utterly fascinating. They were crushing in an instant and somehow fell in love by the end of the day.

Secondly we've got dynamics! I have a very simple list that covers majority of their scenarios.

Picks pockets x entertains the crowd for half the earnings

Overall they're basically perfect for eachother dynamic wise. Even their laughs are perfect, Najma laughs so hard she snorts and Ruggie sounds like a maniac!

Some other details I'd like to add is

Ruggie willingly wears her lipstick all over his face. If she kisses him and it transfers he's keeping it on.

Najma brushes Ruggie's hair for him when he's more tired than usual.

Ruggie braids Najma's hair for her when she didn't sleep well and is having trouble with fine motor skills.

Najma will introduce herself as Mrs. Bucchi just to mess with Ruggie (and to get discounts).

Ruggie holds her waist a lot, enjoying how perfectly his face sits in the crook of her neck.
