Genuine question here, what’s the general consensus on what troll blood looks like? I’ve seen it drawn red, I’ve seen it drawn glittery ect.

This sounds morbid, and it sort of is, but I’ve shied away from describing it in my fic because I can’t make my mind up…

Guys I have an idea about how troll blood works.

So in humans blood is red because of hemoglobin and iron and stuff in the blood cells, right? What if in trolls, the pigment comes from the plasma instead of the blood cells? That's how they can have tears/spit/whatever in the same color as their blood without constantly losing blood cells!

All liquids made by a living thing is just filtered plasma, so maybe the filter in trolls just doesn't see the pigment as important enough to bother keeping.

They'd still have red blood cells, it's just that the pigment is strong enough to overpower the red color. And speaking of pigment, what if the Vantas's mutation doesn't give them red blood, it gives them clear plasma‽ That means we're just seeing the color of the blood cells instead of the plasma pigment you'd see in other trolls' blood.

This also explains why Karkat has the same color blood as humans and carapacians, humans don't have strongly pigmented plasma (there still is pigment, human plasma is actually a yellow-gold color, there's just not enough of it to overpower the red) and it's safe to assume that carapacians are similar.

I don't know if this makes any sense I googled like two things to see if it did and I think it does but yeah.

here i go!! Troll Blood thoughts

I think of the troll reproduction process in the way an artist thinks of paint mixing. Keep in mind this is MY personal headcanon. It’s not to be taken seriously unless you want to be sillay and goofey with me.

Similar colors will get you “Purer” results (in the means of thinking of pigment, not class), while colors opposite of one another or even weird color combos will get you variant blood colors. VARIANTS ARE COMMON, VARIANT BLOOD TYPES CAN BE ACHIEVED COMMONLY FROM BLOOD THAT’S WITHIN RANGE. It is encouraged for similar colors to become Matesprits with one another while opposite or even lower caste/higher caste pairings are frowned upon majorly. The more outlandish the color combo, the higher chance of getting a mutant blood color. There is a MAJORLY LOW CHANCE of getting a “Pure” blood color from those type of couples. there is a much lower chance of even getting a grub out of these type of couples, and generally why they’re (Couple and grub) culled early on, their deaths usually used as examples. The acceptable max distance of castes is about 3-4 castes up or 2 down. Otherwise, don’t bother if you want to keep yourself alive. Generally, it is discouraged to mingle with the lower castes if you’re of higher caste/purer blood.

A honorable sacrifice for the great or good Edit: Oh yeah you guys on Tumblr don't actually know about the Troll OD. So I've created this headcanon in where if you eat too many trolls you start to go insane and like a drug addict you start searching for that high again. The more you consume the more it corrupts your mind until you're like a drug zombie wondering around aimlessly searching for more trolls to eat... So in the second movie we see poppy and branch get, basically drugged by smooth jazz. Do you think different kinds of music can be like drugs to trolls who aren't off that genre? I'm just thinking about floyd & his ex band mates just getting high after putting on a funky record

I can't explain to you how much i love this ask, Sapphire! Like it made me obsessed sljhfdjd I was focusing so much on that ringpop pacifier from the third movie and thinking of other troll drugs I could come up with (like sour worms lol) that I completely forgot about smooth jazz!!

Eventually Floyd got up like in a trance, started dancing hippie-style, tripped over his own feet, and never got up

Floyd is still 14 here and they are all morons. Also I think Floyd would in general be much more affected by this genre because he doesn't have any Rock Troll blood like the rest of them. Slowly they will learn through morally dubious trial and error... Pray for them.
