Oh my God, now I'm seeing people claim that trans men loosing their titles through the new FIDE regulations and only getting recognition back when detransitioning is good actually, because it affirms their gender. Will this argument never end? They just want to keep trans people from competing and having success, plus reaffirming that girl brains are weaker. Nothing about this is good.

Look taking away trans men's titles is 100% an extension of the patriarchal protectiveness over women as a category. And of the way transphobia views trans people as "really" whatever gender makes it easiest to attack us. Trans men are told they're "really" women because they need to go to a gyno, and then alienated from "women's" health clinics and women's shelters because they're too male.

The secret thing about trans people is that the patriarchy doesn't want any of us to be considered real women as we are. It wants to force transmascs into women's bathrooms and then beat the shit out of them for being trannies preying on women all the same. If you act like the beating-the-shit-out-of-them part is good because its "validating their gender" then you are supporting transphobia. A trans woman getting arrested for public nudity because she isn't wearing a top may be being treated like a woman, but that doesn't mean what's happening is good.

But because people believe that being seen as a man must always be a benefit, it means that even when being seen as a man is actively putting you in danger, they will still say its a benefit because being seen as a man is inherently beneficial. And that's transphobia for you. Its the same thing whether its being said to a transfem or a transmasc.

Tango: but I love you

+ an in-depth analysis to every choice made for this edit

(i’m not normal about ranchers)

I’ll start off with the caption, I made Tango say “but I love you” as a confession to Jimmy, and Jimmy responds with “so please let me go.” In the lyrics it’s actually “but I love you so” however, in their specific case Jimmy needs the ‘so’. He’s telling Tango that because he loves Jimmy he has to let him go.

Throughout double life they grew closer, they supported each other and let the other do things independently. Tango didn’t treat Jimmy like he needs to be locked in a cage to survive. He praises everything he does and lives in the moment with him. This supportive and positive behavior is something Jimmy hasn’t experienced in the life series. And that behavior made it easy to grow close with Tango & fall in love with him. But because of his curse, he knows in the end that he is going to doom him. He doesn’t want to hurt Tango so he goes with the easiest option, in his opinion, to steer Tango away. But this just ends up hurting them both.

The intro clip I originally wanted to use was one of Jimmy saying “but we’re not alone, anymore.” It was cut out-of-context (the context being joel & etho became yellow). But I felt it didn’t fit right (because it was ooc and not genuinely about their relationship) so I changed it to the one it is currently. I picked this clip specifically because it shows Tango praising Jimmy and calling him his partner. Because it shows Tango was Jimmy’s healthiest teammate.

Intro done and moving onto the edit, the first clip is from the very start of double life. When Tango runs off in the same direction as Jimmy and Tango’s eyes are on him. Despite not knowing who their soulmate is, they’re already tied by fate and are actively being pulled together. And this transitions us into the second clip where Tango is walking out towards Jimmy from the tree after their first death. I matched these scenes together because while Jimmy is walking away, Tango is following behind. He’s being pulled in, he’s being drawn towards him. “Where you go, I go” also comes to mind.

On top of all that, the scenes fit perfectly with the lyrics. It shows Jimmy from Tango’s pov while Tango says “but I-“ and on the ‘I’ it switches to Tango. “I love you” Emphasizing that it’s HIM, Tango, that loves Jimmy. And on the ‘you’ it switches to Tango’s pov of Jimmy from that same meeting on the tree.

The next two clips are of Tango and Jimmy both coming close to the camera while the lyric is a drawn out “so” panning across the two of them. Honestly, it has two meanings. The first is that it’s them trying to figure out where to go next. It’s a continuation of the previous lyric “i love you”, It’s Jimmy saying “you love me, so… what’s next?”. Meant to be like “are you going to do anything about it” (Ask me out, date me, etc).

The second meaning is Jimmy is saying “so” as in “so what?”. This is him attempting to steer Tango away. It’s his way of saying “so what if you love me? there’s nothing worth loving anyway.”

The next clip is of Jimmy sliding up to Tango with the lyrics “please”. It’s portraying Jimmy grabbing Tango’s arm and him to, what the next lyrics say, “let me go”.

And with these lyrics we have the rancher’s first death from both perspectives. It’s a flashback to that night. A reminder that Jimmy’s curse will only drag Tango down with him. And before it can, he wants Tango-no needs Tango to let him go.

And we’re finally onto the second half of the edit, instead of editing the events that lead up to them losing their yellow life, I decided to start with the morning after that death. To showcase that they were losing time to be together. Jimmy’s curse was pulsing in his veins, he could feel that something bad was going to happen.

This time It’s Jimmy on the lyrics “I” and Tango on “you”. He’s accepting that he loves Tango, and that he wants to accept Tango’s feelings. But he’s running out of time to do so, especially with all the chaos going on around the server.

Which is why the next clip is Tango catching up to Jimmy (after he escapes from being held captive by yellow names) and blows his horn, their matching horn, at him. Then it’s Tango on “so” & “please”. Telling Jimmy “you love me, so let’s do this. If I love you, and you love me, that’s all we really need. that’s all that I need.” The clip of Tango right before the enderman is actually the slowest clip of the whole edit. I made it this way because it was their last interaction before the final death happened. That was the last time Jimmy saw Tango alive.

And finally, “let me go” with their final death from that enderman. Jimmy is begging that enderman to “please let me go. don’t take this (what me and tango have) away from me”. They ran out of time. They didn’t get to do everything they wanted, didn’t get to say everything they needed to. The enderman ripped them apart (quite literally) when they were finally so close. They danced around and played rancher, they were close to making it official, making it real. Nothing but a fade to black as they lose consciousness, with “I love you”s from the other playing in their head.

There’s also a parallel between the deaths shown. In the first one, it shows tango panicking about the creeper that dropped and then cuts to jimmy dying alone and not knowing what was happening to his soulmate. And in the second half it’s jimmy’s shield breaking and he’s the one in trouble now, and Tango is alone panicking trying to keep them alive but failing, not knowing what happened to his soulmate.

And then “You’re still here? Its over. Go Home. Go.” just to spite fans. ;P

𖦹 firstly, i love ellie so much but that girl is a loser (lovingly). she's quite the introvert AND has a rbf (resting bitch face) so making friends is definitely not the easiest thing for her to do.

𖦹 She spends a lot of her time with either Dina & Jesse or just chilling alone. When she is alone, she can be found playing guitar, listening to music, or reading some used paperback.

𖦹 gamer!ellie is alive and well!! she's a very typical gamer. stays up WAYY too late yelling at her screen when she's losing. girl will stare at her screen for hours and then be confused when she gets a headache.

𖦹 Dina suggests that Ellie joins a club or sport in order to "be social" and she goes out to join some community soccer team. and of course she ends up loving it. she's a quick learner and is able to be competitive without being too mean.

𖦹 Ellie NEVER lets her hair get past her shoulders. it's not even because she thinks it's "girly" to have long hair either. it just doesn't have the motivation for taking care of longer hair. when it does get a bit "long" she'll let you put in little braids cause she knows you like playing with her hair.

𖦹 idk how to explain this but ellie is the BIGGEST paramore fan. the first song she heard was "decode" when Dina forced her to watch Twilight, and just fell in love with the music right away. when she found out what Hayley looked like she freaked out. Not only do they share a last name, but Hayley is hot!! (basically ellie has a huge crush on hayley & listens to paramore 24/7)

𖦹 aside from paramore, ellie actually has a pretty obscure taste in music. she got a lot of her favorite songs off of Joel, but she enjoys quite a bit of modern music too! she's definitely a wired headphones user. (me too tho)

𖦹 definitely has multiple piercings in her ears, but only wears simple silver/black earrings. saw Jesse with one of his ears pierced and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

𖦹 she likes dogs, but is a cat person at heart. she has a black cat with some silly non-cat name & adores it so much. constantly buying her cat toys and treats because they're "besties"

𖦹 her favorite cuss word is "shit" because of how versatile it is.

𖦹 has a couple of other tattoos apart from the piece on her forearm. definitely keeps her tattoos within a relatively similar theme.

𖦹 unlike myself, ellie is really minimalistic when it comes to social media. she has instagram and snapchat, but only uses it to post her cat & send memes to Jesse and Dina.

𖦹 has like 3 pairs of the same shoe. a set of black high-top converse. they fit her perfectly and she rarely wears anything else.

𖦹 her love language is a combo of quality time and physical touch, so taking naps with you is one of her favorite things to do. considers napping a legitimate date activity.

𖦹 just because she is an introvert doesn't mean much other than she prefers to spend her free time by herself. she absolutely kills it when it comes to public speaking / presentations bc she's confident in her intelligence and knows what she's talking about.

𖦹 on the other hand, she has NO idea how to write an essay that involves interpreting information because she has to have guidelines. has tried paying you to write her essays for her (it never works).

𖦹 the interwebs told me she's a sagittarius which i'm not sure if i agree with or not. she definitely has the passion and confidence of a fire sign but everything else about her says EARTH SIGN!!! (i'm a virgo lol)

𖦹 even though she doesn't really like it, she'll go out and shop with you because she likes watching you try everything on. this is also the only way she'll try anything on herself, is if she's with you and can get your opinion right then and there.

Wanted to flesh out and add more headcanons to this ↑, so that'll be under the cut!

⫘⫘ Messy as hell handwriting that only he can read, although sometimes he can't read it either and struggles with remembering what he wrote

i feel like he'd have a typewriter in his room for important notes because of this (no idea if those actually existed when idv takes place but we have cypher machines which seem pretty similar so-)

He's always, always doing something with his hands.

if he's not writing on his notes, he's doodling abstract shapes or concept inventions on them.

And if he's not doing that, then he either has something to fidget with or tinker on, or he's playing with his hands.

⫘⫘ speaking of hands, to me he only wears one glove because they irritate his scarred hand.

He should take regular breaks so his hands don't cramp and hurt, but he's usually so engrossed in his tasks that he forgets it's even a problem.

⫘⫘ He talks a lot! But sometimes it's not just the chatty type of talking but a cacophony of thoughts and ideas that his brain works him up into and needs to be dragged out of him by the only way he can.

If you're not his friend already and you end up on the listening end of one of these, as long as you don't actively recoil from it you've probably gained a ton of trust with him.

⫘⫘ Part of talking so much with everyone is that he has a lot of friends! But he doesn't really have many friends, you know? There's only a select few he trusts properly.

⫘⫘ His memory tends to go blank on things like the date or time.

He's worried quite a few people by not realising it was a holiday, and commenting on it with confusion.

More minor holidays like Easter and Valentine's Day are the easiest to forget, because people don't really decorate for them.

He has Several alarm clocks for timing, but he usually asks people to immediately come and get him if he's needed for something and isn't there.

Due to this, he's been part of things he wasn't supposed to be, because he generally trusts that he's just forgotten he was meant to be there.

Of course he has distorted dreams of the incident, but he actually has quite a lot that revolve around his prison time.

⫘⫘ He has a lot of night terrors. There's been so many nights where he's jolted up, heart racing, and couldn't tell what was real or fake or where he was for a while.

He was treated... extremely badly there. Any excuse to take frustrations out on a rich person was taken liberally by the other people. Prisoners, guards, all of them.

Lots of both physical and mental trauma helped to cement his broken mental state and lack of memory, as well. Being hurt like that is not going for your head.

After all, one of his canon dislikes are "implements of torture"

⫘⫘ He's pretty good at decoding when he decides to do a match! He avoids hunters pretty well too. Unfortunately, they don't like him very much...

He always HATES the rocket chairs. Not necessarily what happens after he's eliminated, although that's startling too. It's actually being strapped down to it that makes him panic.

He doesn't like being stuck to anything, and he especially doesn't like it when the hunters are usually nearby ready to hurt him.

⫘⫘ It's alright though, because he has his chain! He's augmented it in order to create the static charges you see in the matches.

There is just one teensy little problem. After coming to the makeshift hospital ward after blacking out while using his abilities a couple of times, he was asked what he did to keep his electricity generator from shocking him. He didn't have an answer.

As it turns out, he's rather numb in certain parts of his body. Including his neck. And as he was only focused on this invention being effective, he never quite realised that it might be a danger to have it near his already messed up brain.

He's trying to refine it so it doesn't do that, but he's advised to stay out of matches for now.

⫘⫘ he's not the best with self care. At all.

his hair is VERY messy, so it's tied in place with a lot of unconventional things.

Ribbons, wires, gears to wrap it around, clasps, and more. He even kept it tied with a pair of pliers one time. He just needs it up. It's a sensory thing.

But on a less light hearted note, he usually forgets to eat, and "forgets" to sleep while he's working.

If he does eat, he usually brings things like pastries from the main hall to his room.

And if he sleeps... The night terrors about killing his mentor are much more vivid when he jolts up to a desk that looks exactly as it always did back then.

⫘⫘ he doesn't work on his invention. He desperately wants to, but he can't.

Even for someone with good memory, trying to continue a project you last worked on YEARS ago, completely from scratch, is hard.

But he barely remembers what it was meant to do. His life's devotion, shattered to pieces in his mind because of a stupid impulsive accident he feels that he caused. It breaks him.

So he works on other things. Everything and everything will be tinkered with, because maybe he can remember what he wanted. Someday. Through desperate notes and ramblings and trying to weld the puzzle pieces together in his mind.

Grasping for it even as it slips away the more he tries to think of what it was...

⫘⫘ He has friends now. And he'll do whatever they want to do. Anything to distract himself from his plight.

They're the main reason he takes self care at all, besides keeping up appearances. He doesn't feel as alone when everyone is struggling with him.

His room is full of little gifts for them. Might as well put his knowledge to things that make them happy, right?

He is very romantic.

His go to way of being romantic is relaxing with you in front of the fireplace. Usually with a glass of wine or cup of tea.

It’s those quiet moments. You both can be occupied with your own things but still enjoy the company of the other.

Mihawk is a fan of the quiet, hence why he’s lived alone for so long. He loves that you can enjoy the quiet too.

Whenever you are hurt or sick Mihawk does whatever he can to make sure your comfortable.

When it comes to Mihawk you’ve never seen him hurt. On the few occasions you’ve seen him sick, he always insists he’s fine. He’s not used to having someone there to take care of him.

His eyes.

So many people say how cold his glare is, but it’s different with you. Those eyes mean home to you.

He’s a fan of routine. However, if you want to spice things up, he’s open to at least trying whatever you have in mind.

Wash - What’s it like taking a bath with them, or helping them wash up after a fight?

He’s usually the one to run the bath while you light some candles. It’s a time to relax with each other in a more intimate way.

He’s not a fan of a lot of PDA but he does like to link his arm with yours when walking around.

Punch-Out Relationship HC's!

I must clarify.. most of these are PLATONIC relationships! I'll get into the more fun stuff another time.. huhuhuhu. Minor Circuit

Joe and Kaiser are of course together, and have been for a few years now. Alongside this Joe's also great friends with Disco and a nice pal to Hippo when need be (he was previously afraid of Hippo but outgrew that fear).

Kaiser isn't one to make friends but is one to have a boyfriend ironically, who is Joe. He likes Disco and Hippo but only sees them as work friends, rather than personal friends. Hippos growls also tend to startle him, so he's always on edge around him.

Disco is super friendly and considers everybody a great friend, but Hippo is 100% his bestie.

Hippo returns the favour to Disco! He appreciates Disco for everything he does and values their friendship. He also likes Kaiser because he quite likes his moustache but isn't aware that Kaiser actually fears him quite a bit. With Joe, he's more of a work friend who he enjoys playfully mocking from time to time.

Major Circuit:

Hondo is on good terms with everybody, and isn't one to hold a grudge. He'll call everybody a friend at least, and that's true even for Don who he isn't as close to. Alternatively he's besties with Hugger, and even though he is good friends with Tiger he knows he's afraid of him deep down for some reason..

Hugger is like Disco in the sense that he just likes everybody! He thinks of all his fellow circuit members as great friends even if it isn't a mutual opinion.

Tiger is fine with everybody, except Don who he constantly argues with and the rest of the time just manages to tolerate.

Don has a sort of superiority complex over the rest of the circuit which weighs down his opinions on them, but he doesn't actively hate any of them.. he's just annoyed by Tiger 90% of the time and mildly inconvenienced by him the rest.

World Circuit:

Aran is obviously complicated for everyone. You love him, you hate him, or you're about to hate him. But he has opinions too! He tolerates Macho on the rare occasion he isn't loving him being the easiest boxer to tease and play pranks on, on account of his himbo-ness. He quite likes Bull because of how rowdy he can get, and as for Soda they bond quite well due to their shared interest in drinks. As for Sandman, Aran thinks he's too big for his boots but has learnt not to cross the line around him lest he get his ass kicked.

Soda is an overall nice guy who just likes everyone, considering everyone at least a pal to him. Bull is his bestie, and Aran is a close second.

Bull barely tolerates anybody.. except Soda. He finds Macho annoying, he finds Aran aggravating and he's just fine with Sandman, because he's quiet.

Macho is an odd fellow. He acts like he's above everyone else but in reality he often sees himself as an inferior person. When Bull is being Bull, he's terrified, but any other time he's just fine. Soda is good enough to meet his standards, and Aran makes him cry all the time so he's very low on the Macho list of recommendation. As for Sandman.. well, the cupid isn't far away from those two, let's say.

Sandman does his best to be nice to everybody outside of his work facade, but unfortunately some people make that very hard. He likes Macho when he volunteers to help with jobs (which is a weird amount) but finds it hard to attain that when he's.. being Macho. He finds Bull fine, but wishes he'd get his anger sorted, and he thinks Soda is a very nice man who doesn't get enough credit. Like anybody.. He lives his life with Aran in it just fine.

All:

Joe is obviously afraid of Aran, but Aran does go on to treat him better and he gets a little more neutral. As for Aran to Joe, he likes him because he's fun to tease.. but he also likes his cooking.

It's clear at this point, Aran and Hondo are besties.

^ This also goes for Tiger and Aran oddly enough! They have chaotic energy on opposite ends of the scale, and it balances out.

Kaiser and Soda seem to get along nicely, and often have interesting conversations about their histories with each other. There's a nice sense of privacy between them. However, Kaiser is scared of yet another person.. that being Sandman, but he'll hopefully get over that fear. Kaiser is also on good terms with Bull, and is surprisingly good at calming him down.

An odd relationship between Disco and Tiger, as Disco doesn't really talk with Tiger because.. Tiger avoids him. For some reason, Tiger is afraid of Disco Kid. But alternatively, Disco is very buddy buddy with Sandman! Sandy gives Disco boxing tips, Disco gives Sandy dancing tips. 

Hippo quite likes Sandman because he usually brings snacks in for him, but Sandman just does it so Hippo won't pester him. Close to Sandman though, there's Macho, who like a shocking amount of things is scared of Hippo. He has a fear that Hippo might try eat him (Sandman assures him this isn't true obviously). 

Macho and Don really don't like each other. They both accuse the other of being selfish and egotistical (or an eggo which is what Macho says). They're both right. However, Macho does want to get some advice about something from Don.. 

Another with Macho, he and Hugger are the type of people to walk past each other in the street and tilt their hats. 

Aran and Don? Enemies till the end. Don hates Aran for taking his spot in the World Circuit, Aran returns the hatrid because he likes how annoyed it makes Don.

Sandman has a lot! On one hand, he'll gladly stop to talk with Don or Hondo if he goes by them, but on the other hand he's great friends with Hugger over a shared love for animals and great friends with Joe because of the classic big guy, small guy dynamic. However, he dislikes Tiger for a particular decision he made that is also the reason Hondo is always uneasy around him.. Hugger, Hondo and Sandman know about this incident, and specifically keep it away from Disco's ears.

Hugger and Bull.. just call them the bald bros! Hugger is another person who's good with getting Bull calm, mostly with animal talk. Hugger also finds himself interacting with Macho quite often because Macho sees him as a fountain of knowledge, and always has a million questions.

why death note isn't copaganda

Since y'all seem to like my Death Note Metaposting, here's another nugget for you to chew on: I don't think Death Note is copaganda. Either in intent or execution.

I think that Death Note is a story from a very specific time and place, with a very specific target audience. It is a Japanese story from the 2000s, and it's aimed at edgy thirteen-year-old boys.

Japan does not, technically, have a rating system for TV. But most media outlets do choose to self-censor. (To give you an idea of how that looks in practice, I turned to Eirin- the Japanese film ratings board. Eirin splits movies into G, PG-12, R-15, and R-18. Most anime movies are somewhere between PG-12 and R-15. Drug use and abstract supernatural horror tends to get treated much less harshly by Eirin than by the MPAA, but graphic violence, criminal behaviour, and nudity/sex get a much harsher penalty in Japan than they do in the USA.)

A Japanese show for preteen boys in 2005 could not portray the cops as being fundamentally corrupt and violent, any more than an American show for preteen boys could have. So... assuming the writers of Death Note had Some Things To Say about the police, they had to make some choices. They had to figure out how to convey what they wanted to convey- "having the power to kill fucks you up, and cops have that power"- without pissing off their publisher or their TV company.

The easiest way- and the laziest- would have been to make one cop, perhaps Light's Dad, into the Designated Corrupt Punching Bag that the Good Cops have to defeat to catch their criminal. Maybe the Corrupt Punching Bag cop would use a lot of bureaucratic red tape that the Good Guys have to punch through to get their man, or slow down the justice process by insisting on Correct Procedure at all points.

That writing decision positions the failures of the police department as the failure of one man. That writing decision implies that forcing cops to follow the rules that are designed to keep people safe from them actually puts people in danger. I think you could definitely call that writing decision copaganda= and too many shows, on both sides of the ocean, choose it.

But that is not what Death Note chooses to do.

Another way Death Note could have handled the problem is to just... sidestep it. Completely take the focus off of the police, throw in a line about how they're baffled, and let our Genius Detective Hero-Antagonists handle the case completely. In this version of Death Note, we'd have no Aizawa or Matsuda, Soichiro would just be Light's father, and L/Mello/Near would be the only ones pursuing the investigation.

This writing decision positions the police as irrelevant in a way that means you don't have to think about them. The Police Are Baffled, and that's all you need to know; they've handed the case off, and the story goes into the realm of The Outsider Boy Detective Story. This isn't copaganda, per se; it acknowledges that the police are a flawed force that can need outside help... but it's not engaging with the social issues that make the police genuinely flawed. It's veering into pure fantasy. And that can be a valid decision...

But that is not what Death Note chooses to do.

Death Note chooses to actively present the police as being good, but deeply flawed people... who, because of the system they operate in, have no choice but to become bad people. The cops we get to know are kind, funny, ordinary people. But for one reason or another, they don't notice the monster in their midst, until it's too late. And Light's influence corrupts them- or forces them out.

I'll admit that I'm going off my interpretation of the anime here, which does make some significant changes from the manga, but considering that the big change to the ending that the anime makes from the manga is continued into every future adaptation? I feel comfortable including it in my analysis.

[oh, and, uh, spoilers for the end of Death Note, obvs.]

Soichiro refuses to believe that his son could be a criminal. He knows Light's a smart cookie, and he trusts Light's sense of justice. He comes to treat Light as something of a superior officer, even though Light is his teenage son. ...And Light repays him by sending him off on a suicide mission. I mentioned this on a reblog of the original post, but when Soichiro gets his hands on the Death Note? He dehumanizes the criminals he's been sent to kill, the other members of his squad, and ultimately, himself. He treats everyone like they're an expendable cog in a big machine. No one is a person; everything is something to be used in pursuit of Justice. And unlike Light, Soichiro includes himself in that. Soichiro falls into the ultimate trap of being a Good Cop. If you fight for justice as a cop, you wind up utterly expendable. If you're a Good Cop, you die, on command, and take as many people with you as your overlords see fit.

Matsuda also looks up to Light, though for slightly better reasons; they did more or less join the force around the same time, if you count Light joining the Kira Investigation as Light becoming a cop. Matsuda implicitly trusts Light, especially by the start of Season 2. He sees himself as naiive, weak, careless, and stupid- even though he's actually really good at his job. Matsuda is sympathetic to Kira, but thinks he's going about things the wrong way, and that surely there's got to be a better way to make a better world? ....And then Matsuda discovers that everything he thought he knew was wrong. That Light is Kira, and always was. That Kira wasn't a good guy doing things the wrong way, that he was callously manipulating the entire task force this entire time, and that Matsuda has been his patsy. And Matsuda goes out swinging. Matsuda shoots Kira. And hits. More than once. If Ryuk hadn't decided to put Light out of his misery, it would be Matsuda's fault that Light died without real justice being done. If Soichiro is what happens to you when you're a Good Cop, then Matsuda shows how a Good Cop can become a Bad Cop. A moment of anger at the wrong time, a realization that you've been living a lie, or a criminal the cop cannot see as a person anymore? He uses the power of life and death. The power that the viewer has just been told is murder. Only instead of coming from the inkwell of a pen, it's from the barrel of a gun.

Aizawa is... interesting. I'll admit, I remembered him as being The Cop Who Leaves, and that coloured my interpretation until I went back to check the wiki. It turns out he left and came back- what I remembered as "Aizawa working as a private investigator" was Aizawa working well within the bounds of the Kira investigation, but going behind Light's back to talk to Near. But I do think it's significant that Aizawa, more than anyone else in the Kira investigation, is the one who's able to leave. When the Kira investigation gets defunded by the Japanese government, it's Aizawa who can walk- who feels like he has the duty to walk, because he has something to live for that's more important than Justice. Catching Kira is less important than making sure his wife and kid don't starve, after all. He moves to a different part of the police force, and considers leaving the force altogether. And even after he's come back to the Kira investigation, he's detached enough from it that he can see Light's transparent bullshit for what it is. Aizawa is the Good Cop. He follows procedure when he can; when he can't- because the investigation is too corrupt, mostly- he still tries to do what would make the world a better place for everyone. He isn't violent; he isn't cruel; he isn't into justice as retribution. FFS, Aizawa tries to hold back Matsuda from shooting Light. The writers have said that if more people were like Aizawa, the world would be a better place.... And Aizawa is the guy who can leave. Who does leave. Whose loyalty is to his family and his own morals, not to the police as an agency, not to his comrades on the force, not to the thin blue line.

A couple of people have pointed out to me that in Death Note How To Read 13, the writers have said that they didn't have a theme they were going for. And honestly, that'd explain some of the hiccups with the writing.

But I can't help but feel like, even if it's unintentional, the way that the major cop characters' arcs play out is a very well structured critique of some common copaganda tropes.

I think that Death Note is only copaganda if you define "copaganda" as "there is a cop character who is sympathetic" without interrogating what the show is saying with its cops beyond that. And considering that Death Note is a show written for tweens, in a country where respect for authority is paramount? I think that the show's done as much as you can reasonably expect it to to subvert Being Copaganda.

(If anyone wants to say that the Autistic Detective Crew is somehow copaganda, a) I have another essay locked and loaded, do not test me, the short version of which is b) there are two genres of detective fiction, and the one that L/Mello/Near are part of is not part of the tradition that gave us copaganda, it's the other one.)

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers

Thank you @yoellglia, @kingfisherprince and @shambolicchaos for tagging me even though I haven't done one of these in months, I appreciate it <3 And look at this, I am actually doing a tag game.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 57. How did that happen.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

418,066. Some of those 57 are pretty long ;-)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Well I won't list them all, we'll be here tomorrow. The published ones are mainly: Tatort, Good Omens, Potter, Tennis RPF, Skating RPF and a few Music RPFs. There's an awful lot of WiPs from Sherlock Holmes to Poirot to Star Trek to Oasis to Austen to various Panel Shows to Les Miz to The Hobbit and back again though. Plus WiPs for all the published fandoms. Sigh.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Alright this is going to be a trip down memory lane, seeing as I'm mostly active in very niche fandoms these days. Also, this statistic is perhaps skewed by the fact that lots of my fics are in German (a few nearly made it onto the list though!) and my RPF is locked (for registered users only).

Days in the Sun: Tops the list by a very long way. Harry Potter. A Snape/Hermione post war fic published in 2018. I'm a different writer these days but I still like lots of things about it.

To Trust in One Another: Good Omens. Aziraphale/Crowley post Season 1. I remember the response to this overwhelming me at the time, I had never gotten so many comments so quickly after posting and haven't since. This fandom is so lovely (and filled with writers!).

To those who wait, eventually: Harry Potter. Snape/McGonagall. I love this pairing and this story. And while I am very surprised that both the Potter Fics I actually published are het, I am not surprised they both feature Severus Snape.

Almost Too Kind, or: Prometo: Figure Skating RPF. Yuzu/Javi. I still like the Yuzu POV, although I think I've perhaps written more interesting skating stories, but this was obviously the most popular parinig at the time. Hence the amount of kudos I guess.

Language Barrier Sidestepped: Figure Skating RPF. Yuzu/Javi. This one surprised me because it's just a silly fluffy oneshot. But with some language nerdship in the title and the story (that part is less surprising, if you know me)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always, and sometimes too verbosely :D I like a good comment discussion and I have made friends that way.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Angsty endings? Me? I would if I could. Maybe some day. I guess the angstiest one is this unrequited love drabble in the Tatort Münster Fandom.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Well, most of them have pretty happy endings, I think.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not so far. Most of the comments I get are really nice. I can remember only a handful slightly weird ones over the years.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No one is more surprised than me, but yes. In my case, it's usually part of a story and has a function in the story. But it can be pretty graphic because it's weird to me to treat sex as something to gloss over. That being said, sometimes a story decides on a fade to black. On the other end of the spectrum, I've also come pretty close to writing PwP, depending on your definition of it.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Never written one, very rarely read them.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

People have asked for permission several times and I always grant it (of course I do) but I don't think I've ever gotten a link to a finished translation (which I always ask for). I get it though, some of my stories are pretty long and I know all about the difficulties of translation :-)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

It's not finished but I hope we can get back to it @kingfisherprince! I might not always be the easiest person to work with, but I thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

I don't have one, I write whatever pairing is interesting to me. And would love to write more gen fic if inspiration strikes. The concept of an OTP used to make no senses to me either, though I guess I've come close with Novandy in the Tennis fandom. I still write lots of other stuff in that fandom though.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have trouble going back to the Potter stuff for various reasons. Would love to finish a Snarry which is already at almost 30k but doubt I will. I also have a Poirot/Hastings case fic I really want to finish but (see writing weaknesses)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'm not sure. I hope Í write realistic relationships that make sense in the story. I try to write clear prose that's not too cluttered (I don't always succeed). Sometimes with my longer fics I've managed to slightly miraculously tie things together, which is amazing to me when it happens but I can't control that at all.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I sometimes overexplain. I tend to forget about 'setting the scene' descriptions now and then. And the big one: I can't plot for the life of me, I write as I go along, which isn't always a problem but definitely is when you try to write a murder mystery (I've got an unfinished Poirot one and an unfinished Tatort Münster one which I would love to continue).

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I like it, though I tend to use it relatively sparingly and either add translations or try to make it clear in other ways in the text what was being said (a translation degree comes in handy for this).

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Well the first time I tried writing fic it was Kirk/Spock but the first thing I finished and published was Tatort Münster.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Don't do this to me. The answer will be different every day, I think, and for lots of reasons. This is not me being pretentious (I hope), because I would have just as much trouble choosing my favourite song or book etc. Let's pick Two and Two Together for today because I never would have thought I'd write a 42k poly fic, but here we are. I think we've established I sometimes surprise myself.

you seem to be very organized person on top of being very active, do you have any tips for someone who struggles with procrastination and chores in domestic life?

well, first of all, thank you! I can't believe I seem to have my shit together like that lol

I'm not sure if I'm the most organized person, though. my house is the "organized mess" type, especially because I have a lot of objects that I like to keep around me while I'm working, so things like water bottle, lip balm, moisturizer, phone + charger, earplugs etc are always scattered around. and I have cats so, you know how it goes.

what I am in fact is very worried about keeping everything clean, not so much organized: I vacuum the house twice a day, wash the floors once every two days, I change the towels twice a week, I change the bedsheets once a week, I wash the cabinets and surfaces at least once a week, I wash the bathroom twice a week and I clean the yard once a week too.

but I don't struggle with depression, for example, and my anxiety is very much under control, so I'm not sure how I would go about if I experienced mental illness that stopped me from doing these things. in my case, if I don't do these 15-to-30-minutes tasks in the frequency that I mentioned, my house will turn into a dump in just a couple of days, because the sea winds are always bringing in dust and humidity, and both me and my cats are always sheding a lot of hair, lol. so if I don't do a little bit every single day, it'll become overwhelming very fast, and then it'll be actually hard to keep it.

I think doing a little bit every day is the easiest way to keep things in order and clean. you don't have to do a top-to-bottom deep clean every single day, you just have to do a couple of staple things like sweeping or vacuuming at least once, at the end of the day, doing the dishes as soon as you finish eating, and not scattering things around too much. maintaining is actually easier than getting started.

I found out recently that Marie Kondo uses anthropomorphization as a tool for organizing and it made me so happy to know because I've been doing this all my life thinking it was a silly childish thing, but it helps so much! everytime I'm about to leave, like, my mandoline or my blender just sitting on the counter instead of putting it back on the cabinets, I think like "she deserves to go to sleep after helping me out" and it'll make me immediately want to put it away. so if that helps, that helps.

I also love that idea that I saw on a post here once, that you need to treat domestic chores as cyclical and morally neutral: if you have dirty laundry or dirty dishes at home, it only means that you're at the stage of the cycle where they are dirty, it doesn't mean a moral failure. I think a lot of the issue we tend to have around procrastinating basic tasks is the fact that we add virtue into the equation, or we think that we can do it "wrong". we all have different methods and preferences, and you just need to find yours, because whatever works for you will always be the right way.

oh, and watch videos of people cleaning on youtube! I recommend aurikatarina and Midwest Magic Cleaning, both do deep cleaning and organizing for free for people who struggle with trauma/mental illness and both are very optimistic about the whole thing, both see cleaning in a very positive light and always emphasize how not being able to clean is a common thing and shouldn't be seen as a failure.

So I started looking into ways to get my fictional war kitty cats tweaked! :D

EDIT: If y’all enjoy this research, take a look at my rewrite!! I tend to dip down deep into a lot of various aspects, and end up including a lot of it into the story itself!! ^^

DISCLAIMER: Do not give any of these things to your real life pets to ingest in light of what is described below, especially not without doing research or asking the opinion of an animal healthcare professional. This guide is merely an attempt to share some fun knowledge and additional world building for a FICTIONAL society of cats. You should never try to give your real life animals things described in books or writhing unless they’ve come from people who actively know what they’re doing and have something to prove it.

LIQUIDS

SYRUPS

With the easy access that these cats have to multiple trees, the syrups that they have the ability to make aren’t just limited to maple! Various nut producing trees (walnut, heartnut, butternut, etc) boxelder, alder, birch, and pine (amongst others) are all notable for their sap, which can, of course, be turned into syrup.

Though these sorts of syrups are primarily for flavor. The syrup that these guys would mostly be looking to for some fun times would come from other sources…

Namely valerian root syrup! If catnip can be compared to marijuana, then valerian root specifically might be a bit more like phencyclidine in terms of behavior, or isobutyl nitrite (rush) via chemical effects. It is commonly used in small doses by veterinarians to treat stress and anxiety in animals.

This is probably the only thing on the liquid list that might actually be safe for cats to ingest. But I want to stress again: Do Not give your pets anything from this list; I am NOT an expert in this field.

MEADS

Mead is probably the easiest for these cats to make, should they have any sort of access to honey.

Rather than adding yeast, which can be harmful to cats alongside being quite difficult for them to get their paws on, mead is to be fermented! Natural, less harmful yeast comes from the air (room-temperature water and honey is the ideal for fermentation) or it can be added via fruits or spices.

This is not safe for irl cats, however in small amounts, or fictional feline friends can enjoy some ol’ fermented honey-and-water fun.

CIDERS

Since the cats have used the prefix “Apple-”several times, we can clearly see that they know of apples. Which in turn, I’m sure, means they have access to them.

A natural, non-harmful yeast lives on the surface of apples straight from the stem, and as soon as it’s pressed into juice, it will ferment and become alcoholic on its own when left in a contained space and at a steady temperature.

Depending on the time it’s left to it’s own devices, that will affect the taste.

Keep in mind that all of these liquids are pretty high in both natural sugars, as well as containing sugars purposefully added; excessive sugar isn’t healthy for cats, so should they be able to make these, the danger of overindulgence should be stressed.

HERBS

CATNIP

Also known as Nepeta cataria, catswort/catwort, and catmint, catnip is an herb that is most well-known for its affects on felines.

It is most commonly used as a recreational substance and has been observed to have many different effects on various cats. One-third of cats have been noted to not be affected by catnip, and it seems that the behavior is linked to genes and age, and is usually hereditary.

The herb can improve relaxation, which may reduce anxiety, restlessness, and nervousness, making it a prime option in terms of medicinal uses. For recreational uses, however, it may cause cats to act in a number of different fashions, however the most common are as follows: excessive rubbing, rolling around, pawing, licking, and chewing when exposed solely to the scent, while consumption is followed by sleepiness, anxiety, bursts of energy, drooling, purring, biting, growling or meowing loudly.

MATATABI (Silver Vine)

While catnip is the most well-known, matatabi is reportedly more potent and effective. Silver vine contains more and different compounds that cats like and respond to, and, unlike catnip, silver vine’s effects are nearly immediate and last for a much shorter amount of time.

Also unlike in catnip, matatabi is most effective outright consumed, especially in the forms of sticks! Chewing on matatabi sticks, twigs, and shoots is not only a good way for cats to still feel the effects (which are the same as catnip’s, though with a more prominent lean into relaxation and stress-relief), but also an excellent way to keep up with dental hygiene!

Alongside being a a recreational substance, matatabi also has medicinal uses! It contains a significant amount of vitamin C, and is known to lower high blood pressure and provide relief from arthritis pains. In especially large quantities, its leaves may also have a mildly hallucinogenic effect.

TATARIAN HONEYSUCKLE

Honeysuckle berries, flowers, and leaves are toxic to cats and should not be given to them under any circumstances. It is exclusively the wood part of the plant that is safe, and is most often used via scent sprays and toys.

Unlike catnip and matatabi, tatarian honeysuckle specifically has been reported to not possess the same age effective limits that it’s counterparts have. As such, it is a prime choice to stuff into toys (for our cats in question: at the center of moss balls, inside of fabric toys, stuffed into woven mats, etc), especially for younger cats.

Tartarian honeysuckle also has an extended growing season: producing leaves, flowers and berries very early on during spring, and shutting down only late into the autumnal months. It grows quickly and tall, however it is invasive and can very quickly choke out other plants should it be left to its own devices.

FOODS

MUSHROOMS

Raw mushrooms are difficult for cats to digest, so any mushrooms eaten by this guys should only be done so if they have been thoroughly cooked and softened up.

Psilocybin mushroom specifically can be used for this purpose. Some psychedelic mushrooms can also be used for medicinal purposes via treating some forms of treatment-resistant depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and other mental health disorders.

Most hallucinogenic mushrooms used for recreational purposes are toxic to pets, however. Look HERE for various listings of mushroom poisoning and toxicity, alongside any potential symptoms found in some pets for some of these mushroom poisonings.

SEEDS

Various seeds can be used and are safe in moderation for cats.

Raw, unwashed poppy seeds specifically are some of the most popular - and some we see used even in Warriors canon as medicine! The seeds are most commonly boiled and made into teas that supposedly relieve pain, while other teas are simply used in an attempt to wring out the “high” and relaxation from said poppy seeds.

BERRIES

Mulberries specifically are the only berries I’ve found that are safe for cats to ingest while also providing some sort of recreational reaction.

Ripe fruit is a nice snack for cats on occasion! The hallucinogenics come from unripened berries, mature leaves, and the white sap that they produce.

Unripe fruit may (and probably will) cause stomach discomfort, neurological system hyperactivity, and hallucinations when consumed.

So! Outfit choices!

Cordelia/Theodore Pembroke

Pembroke puts a lot of thought into her outfits because a) she's a tailor with generally a major interest in fashion and b) her whole thing with the separate personas hinges on presentation.

As Cordelia, she goes all out on the intricacies and elaborate designs. Time to show off those tailoring skills and have fun with sewing! Putting aside the general extravagance, the main cut of her dresses is actually pretty modest -- even as general fashion shows more skin, she's not budging. This mostly comes back to the separate personas; her arms (and torso. and legs.) have ended up with a lot of scars from monster hunting as Theodore, can't really expose those without raising more questions than it's worth. It also relates to her gender identity as she's transfem/genderfluid and AMAB, easiest way to hide things like body hair or an adam's apple is to simply cover it.

As Theodore, his outfit is quite casual, all things considered. Most of his time like this is spent being very active and energetic, calling for a much larger range of motion than as Cordelia. He's also a lot more likely to rip/stain/etc this set of clothes, so they're not as expensive and are easier to fix. Theodore also gets the freedom of showing more skin; no need to hide scars or male traits he's expected to have! He still keeps his hair long though, usually just in a ponytail.

Flint Silverstein

Silverstein is... a lot less bothered with fashion. His only real hang ups are a) finding clothes that fit him and b) looking respectable. He doesn't particularly want to stand out or draw attention. At one point he decided that people treat you better in a suit and stuck with that, he's a very consistent guy. Type of guy who would eat the same thing for dinner every day (he is only spared from this by not needing to eat lol)

He does actually have alternate outfits, to be fair. They're usually things Pembroke made him that he'll only wear if she asks, like their hallowmas set. She would make him normal clothes if he wanted but he doesn't care.

So, yeah, very different views on clothing! They both see it as a way to change how people treat you but go about it in very different ways.

So, I feel hopeful for the PJO series (haven't the premiere yet, I'm waiting for my off day) but then as I was searching stuff about it, I ended up finding the whole debacle about Uncle Rick being a zionist? I couldn't find many sources that weren't a bunch of hearsay and calls for boycott of the series, do you happen to know what that's about? (Sorry if this is wierd, you don't have to answer if you don't want to)

So this is why it's good to go back to the original source to make up your own mind (I've linked it here for your convenience). For posterity's sake I've provided by own thoughts on it down below, as well as some additionally needed context:

Disney+ is one of many companies that people have called a boycott for (alongside ones like Starbucks) due to BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions is a Palestinian-led movement promoting boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions against Israel). Disney+'s status in the boycott exists separately from claims about Rick Riordan (I haven't seen much backlash about people watching "Wish" or any other disney project recently, by comparison.) I can't comment since I don't actually have Disney+ myself, but have access to it through my technical in-laws who I barely speak to, let alone am going to have honest political conversations with. (I have also, for comparison, gone to Starbucks perhaps 5 times in my 24 years of life out of preference, so like. yeah.)

As for Rick Riordan's statement: he's not a Zionist. The main point of his statement is to express sympathy for the violence affecting both sides of the conflict. Which is true! Civilian hostages were taken and have died, thousands of civilians on the Palestinian side have died, and I've also seen stories of pro-Palestinian Israeli people being harassed and beaten by the IDF. The Hamas have also inflicted harm on the people of Gaza for quite some time.

He also acknowledges that "the Israeli government’s brutal retaliation against the entire population of Gaza has reached genocidal proportions. This is not only an atrocity. It is folly" and how that kind of violence will only create more pain, unstability, and suffering.

He goes on to say "The only real solution is treating each other like equally worthy human beings, and negotiating a peace that allows all parties a chance to live in security and dignity, with hopes for a future that does not include bombs and rockets and gunfire. This means security and support for Israel, yes. It also means a secure Palestine which is allowed to get the international aid and recognition it needs to build a viable state."

So bare minimum, he's a two state solution person. Which isn't that crazy given the context; personally (in my white, previously Christian, Canadian perspective, so grain of salt) I think the easiest path to Progress is 1) defunding Israel's military to enforce 2) a more permanent ceasefire so that 3) a two state solution can be hammered out. That is not a perfect solution and while I hope that eventually Palestine would have total liberation, I'm also trying to look at the situation realistically as a series of steps (not ultimatum endgames) forward to minimize damage and death from getting any worse than it already has.

I also don't think focusing on the dangers of dehumanization is a 'Bad' stance either, given Riordan's context as a close to 60 year old white man American born and raised in Texas, or indeed within the general political climate in America. There are definitely people who are way too pro-Israel (often times because of being unable to see past their emotional trauma) and there are also, likewise, people who refuse to watch themselves for their Antisemitism or Islamophobia (the rise in hate crimes directed at particularly Jewish, but also Muslim, individuals in Canada and the USA). Neither people's lives, anywhere other than people enlisted in active military service, are worthy collateral damage, tbh, because nobody else signed up for this (and the IDF's conscription is an interesting grey room). You shouldn't be cheering over anyone dying, and that's exactly what some people are doing or are trying to inflict. If you're cheering for any and all Jewish civilian deaths in Israel or any other country, or you're cheering for the death of civilian Palestinian people, you are a shit head. Full stop

I think his statement is likely written to both 1) express how he personally feels and 2) written as a response to the deep polarization of the issue at hand. If you can get a wedge in and have people consider, briefly, the propaganda they may be taking without question (particularly for Americans, who are raised on a whole prominent host of pro-Israel sentiment), then it's worthwhile taking the 'neutral' road to me.

I've expressed it before in this post, but Neutral -- genuinely neutral, not "I don't have an opinion bc I'm not informed but my not informed opinion errs on the side of the oppressors because why would kids need to transition lolol?" -- opinions are not a bad thing. It means that, for an ultimately pro-Palestinian person like myself, he's not in my way. Neutral people are not in your way. And that means you can jump over them, and work on combatting the people who are actively hostile and opposed to you (supposedly 'neutral' people included) because that's where the work actually is.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Read the thing, take your time, draw from the people around you that you trust if that's an option for you, figure out how you feel, and make up your own mind about it and what to do about it. Applicability > emotionality and all that. Hope this helped

I'll start with the easiest one: Amita x Goku (Amiku? Goita?).

Like I've mentioned before, non Gochi ships with Goku will only be done in an AU where Chi Chi died and couldn't be revived, so he's a widower. Amita would still meet Goku the same way she did (via buying his farm's produce from him) in the default verse, and would continue to interact with him. Eventually, I can see Goku opening up about his family and aspects of his personal life to her more and more, and she returning the notion (albeit at a slower pace) because he's just inviting like that.

Goku's carefree but very caring at the same time, which imo would mix well with Amita's reserved nature as he would be patient and understanding with how prickly she can get - especially on bad days. He wouldn't shy away from giving her affection & quality time, which she craves because love-starved n' all that.

Amita in turn would become devoted to him and, thanks to her heightened sense of perception, could pick up on what emotions Goku might try to hide and touch upon them for his sake. Additionally, Amita doesn't fall in line with typical societal norms when it comes to expectations in a relationship, so she would *very rarely* feel self-conscious over Goku having a late wife & still caring about her immensely. Whether she's "second place" or not is unimportant, as she's more concerned if Goku's just treating her right (and he would).

Overall, I honestly think they would develop a pretty solid bond. Goku's strongest love language is sparring or sharing physical activities, and since Amita's a decently experienced martial artist, they have that as a bridge to forming strong chemistry. Goku would definitely help her become a better fighter.

Lastly, while Amita would technically become Gohan and Goten's stepmom (Idk if Goku and Amita would end up marrying ngl), depending on timeline placements that's not going to influence much. Things would be cordial either way, as of course Amita isn't going to treat his kids bad and they're respectful boys so they wouldn't be rude to her or anything.

...Now. Amita x Vegeta (Amigeta? Vegmita?? Vegita). This is a very tricky one.

The biggest hurdle with them is figuring out how tf they would even start talking to each other. Because, Amita isn't a social person and Vegeta surely isn't. One of them would have to take the first step somehow, but unless there's a VERY good reason to cause it...neither of them would lol. The most plausible cause I can think of atm is Amita wanting to spar with Vegeta in particular. Maybe from Goku's recommendation?? Eh. Would Vegeta ever spar with Amita? Well, she isn't weak, but she wouldn't exactly give him that much of a challenge either. So.....who can say.

Let's say he decides to humor her and they steadily become sparring partners. Overtime, in periods of rest, I can see Amita trying to poke at him a bit in learning more about him since she barely knows anything at all. She'll be met with that standard Vegetaness™, but thanks to she at least proving she isn't a worthless sparring partner, maybe he'd eventually let some info about his past slip. Maybe the fact that Amita isn't a part of the Z-Fighters and thus doesn't already have any preconceptions about him, would soften the edges. She also wouldn't really care about his history or his race's history of planetary conquest, so she wouldn't stand on some stupid "holier than thou" pedestal.

Basically, she'd be non-judgmental with him, and would respect his boundaries. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume Vegeta would in turn start warming up to her a bit. Mainly in the sense of he not being AS hostile to her as he is with others. Furthermore, Amita would get stronger as she trained with him, and she would be genuinely thankful for it and his company. He'd brush her off of course, but she being openly sincere in actually having enjoyed their sparring and his influence? ...Hm. Maybe that would warm up the cold shoulders.

If he asked about it, Amita would open up about her past, her heritage, and how her clan handle the concept of fighting and ki control. Idk, maybe he'd find some aspects of it interesting. But them learning about each other and not being total strangers anymore would for sure have a hand in them building up chemistry. Their relationship's origin would be the SLOWEST of burns, without a doubt. Would take waaaay longer to form, compared to Amita x Goku.

Whenever it gets going? It's not much different from how their...friendship manifested. Just throw in Amita testing the waters to see if she can get more physically affectionate with Vegeta (like sitting closer to him, asking if she could hold his hand, etc etc). She would be the one who initiates most of the time. But I imagine there would be some moments where HE'S the one to sit close to her. Perhaps have his tail brush against her. Or even, wrap his tail around some part of her body. That would tickle her pink, and though she'd try to not be obnoxious about it, Vegeta would still notice how her face would light up or the smiles she'd wear because of it. Maybe that would encourage him to be a touch more affectionate, in his own ways.

Would they ever start living together? Amita would at least open her door up to him, if he ever wanted to live with her. I guess it would depend on Vegeta's own living situation. (If he has his own capsule house? He'd probably just stay there or move it closer to Amita's house. If he was stuck at Capsule Corp? Higher chance of him taking Amita up on that offer, because her presence is more tolerable than Bulma's. Yes I subscribe to the belief that Vegeta should've never married Bulma in canon because their relationship has ZERO on-screen chemistry.)

Would their relationship look like a typical one on the surface? No. You could say they would have a more strong q-platonic coded thing going on, which is fine and dandy. They would know what they meant to each other, and that's what matters.

EDIT: Uhh sure Amita would become like Trunks' stepmom but he wouldn't call her one and she wouldn't think of herself as one so. There's nothing of note there.
