Making Your Own Luck
Quick story I wrote while thinking of Plagg’s love of cheese, Tikki’s love of cookies, and the different ways we associate with good and bad luck. Sprinkle in a little Lila salt and you’ve got some wonderful brain candy to tide you over until the next story. Warm-Fuzzies and enjoy!!
There were more than a few abilities that kwamiis had that normally weren't used. Kaalki could improve her holder's horseback riding ability. Pollen could help flowers grow when she spent enough time in an area.
Tikki's power over luck and good fortune was very well known. But it wasn't only her lucky charm, but her ability to take away luck. Now, this wouldn't give someone bad luck, that's Plagg's thing and had started the whole black cat crossing your path superstition. It would just set a person's luck to zero, and their actions afterwards would determine if it turned good or bad. This is where the concept of karma and the saying 'making your own luck' came from.
Normally, these were abilities that kwamiis kept to themselves or would become a side effect of being active for an extended period of time. Tikki was able to control that ability easily… until her holder came across that Italian rat, Lila Rossi. Oh, how she wished for the chance to reset that girl's luck and let karma determine her punishment. It would be so easy, just a second of physical contact and all her luck would disappear. Then everything she did would continue to build and grow, not that the little Goddess had to guess which way it would go.
Then, one glorious Tuesday morning, Lila accused Marinette of stealing her orange pen. Tikki had been eating her blueberry and lemon curd macaron while reclining on a silk scarf when the girl snatched the purse she was in. Marinette tried to get it back, horrified when Lila opened the latch and shoved her hand inside.
The purse jostled roughly to one side, causing Tikki's cookie to fall to the floor as the stolen pen slid out of the girl's sleeve and into the purse. What happened next occurred so quickly, that she would always claim, while ignoring Plagg's jokes and side eyes, that it was a complete accident. Tikki grabbed the pen, touching Lila’s fingers as she pushed away and fazed through the bottom of the purse. With all the chaos of Lila keeping the purse out of Marinette’s reach and Mme. Bustier, demanding that everyone calm down, no one noticed the kwamii fly under the desks, drop the pen under Lila’s chair, and return to Marinette to hide in her backpack.
"...but she took my pen, I saw her put it in-"
"If that is the case, you tell me and I will handle it," Bustier said sternly, displeased that her lesson had been interrupted and her pregnancy hormones giving her a shorter fuse. "Give Marinette her purse back, now." She did, barely hiding her smirk. "Marinette, may I please take a look inside your purse?"
Hands shaking from the adrenaline, having a flashback of the last time her bag had been searched, and worried about Tikki being found, Marinette wanted to say no. It was only when she spotted Tikki out of the corner of her eye, head poking out of her backpack and giving a reassuring nod, that she handed over her purse.
A few seconds later, Bustier handed the purse back and cast a disappointing scowl at Lila. "I believe you owe Marinette an apology."
Shock broke through Lila’s façade as she sputtered. "But… but she took my favorite orange pen. I swear I saw-"
"Isn't this it?" Nathaniel asked, causing everyone to turn and see him pick the pen up from under their shared desk.
Sputtering a bit more, Lila clenched her jaw before giving Marinette a terse "sorry" before stomping back to her seat.
Plagg knew exactly what his Sugarcube had done, he'd felt the slight spike of power after the cookie had shattered on the floor and that brat had shoved her hand into Pigtail's purse. The embarrassment of apologizing in front of the class was just the start. He knew the girl wouldn't accept defeat so easily, and the consequences would keep growing.
And he was not disappointed.
Lila tried to trip Marinette in the cafeteria, and ended up stubbing her toe on a table leg hard enough to cry real tears. When she attempted to switch their homework assignments in Mendeleiev's class, the teacher not only spotted the switch but proved it in front of everyone by comparing handwriting. That got Lila a week of detention.
Then, at the end of the day, Lila accidentally dumped her water bottle all over Marinette’s head and backpack. Despite acting oh-so apologetic and reminding everyone about her weak wrist, she wasn't getting the support or assurances of "it's not your fault" that she expected. Many glared at her while others ran off to get towels to help Marinette. Realizing that she miscalculated and did too much on a single day, Lila made a hasty retreat outside. Only to get absolutely soaked when a car sped through a puddle on the street.
Plagg laughed his little whiskers off from that one. But he knew it was just starting. He couldn't wait to hear about what happened away from school.
~oOo~
The following morning, Lila looked like she'd been dropped into Dante's Inferno and spat back out just in time for school. What happened didn't even have anything to do with Marinette, so she couldn't blame it on her. That just annoyed her all the more.
While storming home wet from the puddle, she kicked a pebble that hit a bird, then a flock of birds swarmed her while she ran for two blocks. She shoved a neighbor out of the way when she got to her apartment building, and the door flew back and cracked her in the nose. It bled for over ten minutes.
She went to the mall for some retail therapy, coupled with a five finger discount, and was caught immediately. Her mother was called and she was banned from the mall for life. Greta was not happy with her daughter and gave her extra chores as punishment. While Lila was muttering mean and disrespectful things about her parents while cleaning the bathroom, she didn't account for the volume of her voice or the bathroom tiles echoing what she said. Her grounding was extended.
All this made Lila’s mood particularly volatile when she arrived at school that morning. Not bothering to pay attention to what was around her, she gave Mireille a shove out of the way, making the girl stumble down the stairs. A couple seconds later, Lila slipped on the wet steps and fell all the way to the bottom. Her classmates saw the whole thing, and although they were miffed that she pushed someone, they still helped Lila to the nurse to get checked out. Nothing broken, but there were multiple new bruises to match her black and purple nose.
In class, Marinette had to resist the urge to stare at the hot mess her bully had become in a single day. The rest of the class had noticed too. Nathaniel decided to move up a row to sit with Ivan. Rose and Juleka cast wary glances in her direction whenever Lila started muttering to herself. Even Mme. Bustier had to tell Lila multiple times to stop talking with the threat of detention.
By the time lunch came around, Marinette made sure to be with one other person at all times. With how unhinged Lila was getting, she didn't want to risk being caught alone with her. Luckily, Ivan, Rose, and Juleka wanted to talk with her about the new designs for Kitty Section, so she was covered.
Lila noticed how the class was starting to avoid her. Fighting off the urge to curse and scream at them, she took a few deep breaths to clear her mind. She'd been rushing too much for the last two days, she knew that. Trying to compensate for her failure was only bringing more attention to herself and the sheep were noticing that something wasn't right. She had to slow down and make them come to her.
For the next few days, Lila backed down. She smiled at her followers, paid attention in class, and would occasionally look at her phone in distress and act like she was fighting off tears. By Monday morning, things were going better for her. She'd avoided getting in any more trouble with her mom and teachers, she'd texted a fake apology to her classmates, and admitted that she was going through something that was causing a lot of stress. When some of them asked what it was, Lila timidly said that she was too nervous to say anything else. She knew they would bug her and assure her that she could tell them anything.
Monday morning, just as she planned, everyone was encouraging her to trust them and tell them what was bothering her. Seeing that Bustier and Marinette weren't in class yet, she knew now was the time to strike.
Squeezing her eyes shut as she harshly pinched the inside of her elbow to bring tears, she started weaving her story. "It's just, someone's been bullying over text. It's so bad. She keeps telling me that I'll lose all my friends and that I should just kill myself," she said between forced sobs as she dropped her head into her hands. "And it never stops. Sh- she texts all day and into the night. And when I tried to show my mom, the messages were gone. I don't know how, but it's like my phone got hacked and the messages disappear after I've read them."
Max mentioned that there are self deleting message apps, but he wasn’t familiar with them. Then he looked at her searchingly. "You keep saying 'she', that would indicate that you are aware of who is behind this?"
Doing her best surprised face, Lila shook her head. "I can't say, none of you would believe that Marinette would-" she gasped and covered her mouth. "Oh no, I really shouldn't have said anything."
Lila watched as the sheep exchanged surprised looks while Adrien glared at her, but he wouldn't say anything. His father would have made sure of that.
"You're saying that Marinette, our class rep, has been bullying you over text?" Alix asked, unease evident in her tone.
She shook her head while turning up the water works. "I knew I shouldn't have said an-anything. She's your friend, too."
"You said she's been doing this constantly?" Mylene asked, eyeing her carefully as Lila nodded. "When did she last send you one of those texts?"
Sniffling, Lila rubbed her eyes to give herself a second to think. It felt like these were leading questions, like they knew something she didn't. Meaning they'd probably spent time with her over the weekend and would have noticed her messaging Lila constantly. But since everyone was here and Marinette wasn't…
"Right before class. It- it asked if I was dead yet." Another sniffle and she was sure the class was wrapped around her fing-
"Marinette was right! You are a liar!"
Lila was so surprised by Kim's outburst, she forgot to keep crying and stared at everyone as they glared at her in disgust and moved away from her.
"I can't believe we almost bought that crap you were selling!" Alix turned away, face turning red in anger.
"But- but it's the truth! I-"
"There is a .03% chance of what you said being true." Max interrupted, staring down his nose at her. "At this point it is better that you admit it."
Casting a desperate look around the classroom, she was surprised that no one looked supportive. Even Adrien looked absolutely done with her. Realizing the jig was up, she let her expression morph to anger and annoyance as she crossed her arms over her chest. "Wow, I'm surprised you idiots figured it out. Usually you do exactly what I say after faking a few tears. I'm curious, what gave me away?"
The sudden change in the Italian girl gave them a bit of whiplash, but Nino answered her. "You ruined Marinette’s phone when you dumped your water on her. She isn't getting a new one until this Friday. No way she could have been messaging you at all."
"Huh, I guess it was worth dumping that on her, even if you idiots started to notice." Then she shrugged and stood from her seat. "Oh well, good to know for my next school, this place was getting stagnant anyway."
Kim blocked her way. "You're not going to get away with-"
"Shut it, you stupid jock. I've already got Bitch-stier and Dumb-ocles eating out of my hand. When I tell them you're ganging up on me, all of you will get detention while I walk free." Sidestepping her soon-to-be former classmates, she gave them a sarcastic wave and smile as she bid them "ciao" and opened the door…
To come face to face with a furious teacher, principal, and her mother!? What's she doing here? Did they just hear what I said?
The thought barely finished when her mother reached out, literally grabbed her by the ear, and dragged her out the door. The class watched in shock as Mme Rossi screamed and lectured her daughter all the way to Damocles' office.
They would be informed days later that Lila had been sent to military school in Italy. In lycee, they heard rumors that she had been arrested for stalking a local celebrity in Venice. During university, Alya found an article about Lila Rossi being sentenced to 30+ years in prison for attempting a ponzi scheme. It had failed terribly and her victims got all their money back, but Lila would have to serve 5 years for each of her victims.
Not that it mattered to them anymore. The class was too busy with their own lives and futures to put much thought into some lying brat that they went to school with for a little while.
Bonus:
Tikki fought her grin as she watched Lila being dragged away by her ear as she and Marinette came up the stairs. Sighing with relief, she was about to enjoy a well deserved treat when she heard a familiar snicker behind her.
"Nice going, Sugarcube. Couldn't have done it better, myself." Plagg cackled as he passed her a cookie before indulging in a wedge of cheese he'd brought with him.
She grudgingly took the cookie before looking away from him. "It was an accident, I touched her hand when she tried planting that pen in my holder’s purse. What happened was her own doing and not my fault."
"Su~re. And the fact that she interrupted your cookie time and dumped your macaron onto the floor had nothing to do with it?"
The look she gave him had Plagg laughing on the inside. Only on the inside.
"That was a perfectly baked, blueberry macaron with a tart, lemon curd filling. I only got one bite before it got dumped to the floor. A price had to be paid."
Plagg watched with great affection as his Sugarcube took a bite of her sweet treat. Oh yes, he'd learned millennia ago not to interrupt cookie time. Just like Henry the VIII, that Lenin guy in Russia, and a few others. They had experienced the wrath of the goddess of creation when interrupting cookie time, though Plagg was the only one to know why things went so bad. It made him smart enough never to do it again.

Thinking about my Flower disease AU today. I just realised its similar to a manga I really really like that I own.
The premise is that a girl fell down a hill and died. She was later found by an earth god. For fun, in return for her life back the earth god gave her bad luck. Everyone called her a witch. In heaven, a boy was created by a lonely sky god. When the sky god got bored, the demigod boy went down to earth to gain followers and become a fellow sky god to get the attention of his master. The demigod's name is Amane and the girl's name is Chiisa. The two met and a red string was tied to the both of them.
When the earth god's death was near, his oldest most loyal disciple set eyes on Amane. The disciple kidnapped Amane and took out the essence of the sky god and replacing it with the soul of the earth god. Chiisa now allied by the disciple's younger brothers search for Amane and with the essence of the sky god in her hand, she forced Amane to swallow it through a kiss. With both essences mixed Amane became a true human. Now a human, he helps guard the earth god's abandoned temple and lives with Chiisa as a happy couple.
I know this is hard to understand but imagine Plagg and Tikki respectively being the earth and sky gods in this scenario. With Marinette being blessed by Tikki and Adrien being blessed by Plagg. Plagg being injured would ask Adrien to carry out his duties and in return he gives Adrien his eyes. Marinette was blessed by Tikki but in return it had the effect of creeping out the villagers and calling her a witch. Mix that with a bit of fictional flower disease and we have the AU.
And to think this all came from a dream I had 9 years ago-

original prompt | complete masterlist
"Okay everyone, gather 'round." Marinette guides the group of kwamis around her. They obdiently arrange themselves in a circle, with Trixx and Plagg shoving each other playfully and Kaalki and Barkk huffing beside them.
"As you may know," she says carefully, "Damian's not allowed to babysit you anymore."
"Aww!"
"Why not?"
"I liked him!"
"Well, obviously, his kwami-sitting didn't work out." Marinette looks at a guilt-stricken Tikki. "So I'm taking a different approach."
She takes a deep breath. "I'm going to let the others take care of you."
The kwamis all flit forward, shouting out their picks.
"I want the most famous one! The fanciest!"
"Ooh, I am looking to serve the short-haired girl. She is beautiful!"
"The acrobat one please, Guardian!"
Marinette raises her hands. "The catch is that I get to choose who you're with."
The mini gods buzz with excitement as she brings out her tablet. "Let's see . . ." She taps on her list. "First, Tikki and Plagg will still be with me. It's too dangerous to have you both with anyone else."
Plagg grumbles while Tikki nods. Marinette makes a mental note to give Plagg more cheese, since she's been too restrictive lately.
"Okay, good," she continues. "Trixx, I'll still need you tonight for patrol, but for the meantime, you'll be with Dick. Xuppu, Daizzi, Fluff and Roarr will join you. Next, Duusu, Ziggy, Orikko, Mullo, Jason will have you. Barkk, Wayzz, Sass, Longg, you're with Tim and Pollen, Kaalki, Nooroo, and Stompp, you're with Stephanie."
"Do we not get the pretty lady?" Kaalki huffs.
Marinette offers an apologetic smile. "Cass is busy right now, but Steph's pretty willing to kwami-sit. You'll love her, I promise."
"Erm---" Tikki side-eyes her fellow kwamis. "Why did you put the . . . calm ones in a single group?"
A gleam flickers on her eye. "I have my reasons."
---
"Trixx! Ack! Get back here!" Dick lunges at the counter but the kwamis effortlessly phase through him and hover away, giggling. "Xuppu, don't eat that!"
Daizzi flies around in a circle, laughing. "The Guardian is right! This one is the most fun out of all of them."
The eldest Wayne boy rubs his temple. "Why? Why do I even try? You guys won't listen to me after all."
Jason strolls into the kitchen, carrying a bag of assorted snacks. Floating behind him are his assigned kwamis, following him like chicks to a mother hen. "What's the problem?" Jason snickers.
"Can't control them," Dick whines, watching helplessly as the kwamis begin to thrash the kitchen, flipping pots and pans and using all the utensils as fake weapons. Alfred is so going to get him for this.
"What, like it's hard?" Jason picks out a berry from his bag to feed to an eager Duusu. Mullo tries to grab it, but Jason tuts. "Mullo, wait for your turn please."
The kwami pouts but moves to the back of their line. "Okay."
"Next time we should practice what?"
"Manners," the four kwamis chorus.
Jason smiles, handing a sunflower seed to Orikko. "Nice. Anyone up for training down the Batcave?"

Miraculous AU - Chapter 16 - Groundwork
Beginning || Previous || Next
A knock sounded on Alya’s door.
            “Come in!”
The door opened and Marinette stepped into the room. She had a tote bag and an arrangement of white roses and lilies in her arms.
            “Hey, girl.”
Marinette closed the door and pulled up a seat near Alya’s bed. “How’re you doing?”
“I feel fine. Doctors want to wait a few days though. They’ve been treating this as an electrocution, which it was, so they’re keeping an eye on my heart for those few days. Otherwise, everything is fine.”
“Well, I bring some gifts from the family.” Marinette placed the bag on the bed, then handed the flowers to Alya. “Flowers are from Mom, wishing you well.”
Alya smiled and took them. “Your mom is the sweetest, girl. Did you tell her?”
            “It might have slipped.”
Alya chuckled as she placed the flowers on a table stand. “All good. After all, my family knows now.”
            “Have you spoken with them?”
“Sure have. You should have seen them this morning. Parents were angry, Nora was beyond pissed, and the twins were just happy to see me.”
“What did they have to say about you being Louve?”
“They wanted me to give it up, stop being a hero, but I told them I wouldn’t. Nora even tried taking my chain ring bracelet, then a bubble appeared around it that stopped her.”
            “A bubble?”
“Yeah. Fang said once a holder activates their jewels, no one but the holder can remove them. It was at that point we went in a massive circle of my parents and Nora telling me to give it up, me refusing, and the twins playing with Fang.”
            “Where is Fang?”
“She’s around somewhere. Why do you ask?”
“Well, I have some fresh biscuits from the bakery for her and some strawberry turnovers for you.”
Fang materialized beside Marinette. “I heard biscuits. Where are they?”
Marinette pulled a box from the tote and opened it. Fang bounced when she saw the batch of biscuits. Fang took one, then sat on Alya’s shoulder as she ate it.
“Do you want yours now too?”
“Nah. I had lunch not too long ago. You can leave the box on the table though.”
Marinette nodded. “So, how did the argument end?”
“With Fang explaining everything to my family and a promise to one v one Nora once I was out of the hospital as Louve.”
“Does everything have to be resolved with combat with Nora?”
            “Why wouldn’t it?”
“Fair enough. But your parents are ok with you being Louve?”
“Not really. However, they are willing to work with me so long as I keep up my studies, chores, and that kind of stuff. Oh, and that I don’t seriously injure myself, which Fang explained that only other holders could harm me.”
Fang nodded. “Which, hopefully we won’t have to deal with that. Although we should be careful. Three kwamis found holders the other night, and one of them was the peacock.”
A ladybug flew out from behind Marinette’s neck and transformed into Tikki. “What? When?”
“How did you not feel it? Where you out last night, Marinette?”
“Yeah. I was hanging out with Chat.”
Alya smirked. “Oh, were you? Anything interesting happen?”
Marinette crossed her arms and smiled. “Juleka activated the mouse necklace.”
“So, it was a kwami necklace? That’s awesome! And with the mouse, we’ll have the snake before long. Isn’t that right, Fang?”
“Well, hopefully. But if the peacock is active, it might encourage him to seek a holder as a precautionary measure.”
“Did something happen in the past with the peacock holder?” Marinette asked.
Fang looked to Tikki. “That’s all you, Bug.”
Tikki gulped. “Well, see, there was an occasion where the peacock picked a holder. The man was as terrible as the kwami, but mistreated and abused the kwami. Because of the holder’s cruelty, the cat and I stepped in. However, by the time they got to the peacock holder, it was too late.”
            “Too late how?” Alya asked.
Tikki shook her head as tears fell from her eyes. Marinette scooped her up, surprised when she felt Tikki trembling.
“It’s ok, Tikki. You don’t have to talk about it.”
Tikki nodded and curled up in Marinette’s hands.
Fang finished her biscuit and got another. “Just know that it was a big mess.”
“A mess we’ll worry about later. But, going back to the other topic, I heard from Rose that we’re setting up a team.”
“We were talking about it. Juleka mentioned it to Chat, and he seemed on board.”
“Which, she even got his number, so we have a way to contact him.”
Marinette frowned. A bitter feeling gnawed at her gut that made her uncomfortable.
“What’s the matter? You upset you weren’t the one to get his number?”
“Absolutely not. Why would I need it when I get to hang out with him every night? As friends, of course.”
“Uh huh. So, you don’t want to casually talk with him at any hour of the day? To get to know him outside of being heroes?”
“I mean, it would be nice, but let’s be real, it’s not going to happen.”
“The dreamer being real? Did hell freeze over?”
“C’mon, I don’t need another instance like when I was thirteen and I obsessed over Adrien. I know I need to be real if I don’t want to spiral like that again.”
“While I am proud of you, that was three years ago. Maybe it’s time to let go?”
            “I don’t know if I’m ready to.”
“Fine. Just know I will tease you over this. It is my job as your best friend.”
“I wish you wouldn’t. I don’t need to be reminded of my silly crush on Chat Noir, ok? And that’s all it is, a crush, understand?”
A knock on the door interrupted their conversation. Tikki’s head shot up as she transformed into a ladybug and hid behind Marinette. Fang remained where she sat on Alya’s shoulder.
            “Come in,” Alya said.
The door opened and Chat Noir stepped in with a bouquet of pink, peach, and yellow roses. He stopped when he saw Marinette. Marinette pursed her lips as a small blush crawled onto her cheeks.
Alya grinned. “Hey, Kitty! Wasn’t expecting you. You come to see this little pup?”
“Yeah. I had some free time for once and wanted to see how you were doing. I also picked up something on the way.” Chat handed Alya the flowers.
Alya took the flowers. “They’re beautiful. You didn’t have to, Kitty.”
“It’s the least I could do. You saved us during that storm, and you didn’t have to.”
“It was nothing. Friends help friends after all. Hey, Marinette, you have a hair tie?”
Marinette nodded as she took a hair tie from around her wrist.
Alya took it and pulled Marinette closer. She pulled a pink rose from the bouquet and held it in her teeth while she worked on Marinette’s hair. She pulled it into a high side ponytail, tied it off, then put the rose into it.
Marinette gingerly touched the rose. “What are you plotting?”
Alya smirked as she pressed her cheek against Marinette’s. “Don’t you think she looks pretty, Kitty?”
Chat blushed and smiled nervously. “She does. The pink suits you, Marinette, was it?”
            Marinette blushed and nodded.
“Hey, Kitty, think she could get your number?”
            “Alya!” Marinette yelled.
“Actually, thank you for reminding me.” He reached into his boot and pulled out a phone in a black case. “I actually need to get your number, Louve.”
            “New phone?” Alya asked.
“Yeah. My nanny went out to run errands and when she returned, she had this.”
            “Does that mean she knows?”
“She’s actually one of us now, a holder. She has the peacock brooch.”
“No way, really? Can we trust her?” Alya asked.
“Of course. I’ve known her all my life. She was the one that raised me. She’s going to be training me and Queen Bee tonight.”
Jealousy clawed at Marinette. She took a deep breath as she fought against it. “Who’s Queen Bee?”
“She’s my childhood friend. She recently activated her kwami and became Queen Bee. I brought the idea to her last night, and she agreed to it.”
“What about Ladybug? Aren’t you two supposed to be a duo or something?”
“I mean, we are, but I just didn’t get a chance to mention it to her.”
Alya smirked. “Too busy playing cat and bug?”
“Yeah. I probably should have told her, but I don’t want our time together to be weighed down by all that seriousness. Spending time with her is like a dream that we get to experience together and it’s great. I’m sure training with her would be just as fun, but I don’t want to ruin the dream for her.”
“That is sweet, Chat, but as a friend to a dreamer, sometimes you need to pull them to reality. It helps to remind them of what’s around them and sometimes needed to save them from themselves.”
“I see. Well, I’ll make sure to mention the idea to her next time I see her.”
“Well, I happen to have her number, so let me see the new toy, Kitty.”
Chat handed the phone to Alya. She took it and added in her numbers along with Rose, Alix, and Juleka’s. She went to add Marinette’s number as Ladybug, but it was already in his phone listed as: “Ladybug/Marinette.” She smirked, so he did know Marinette. She got his number along with Mayura and Queen Bee’s numbers. She handed it back once she finished.
“Thank you, Kitty. I set you up with all our numbers. I’ll also inform the girls of this change, then the real work begins.”
            “What work?” Marinette asked.
“That’s for me and Rose. We’re going to get this team off the ground. Oh, and I’m adding Chat to the girls group chat.”
“What? Don’t do that to him.”
“Is there something wrong with that?” Chat asked.
“What? Nothing. Nothing wrong with it.”
Alya laughed. “She’s just embarrassed cause we tease her a lot.”
Marinette growled. She crossed her arms and looked the other way.
“Turn your head the other way, girl. I want a picture of the rose.”
Marinette rolled her eyes and turned her head. She waited until she heard her phone buzz twice. One message was her parents asking her to come home and the other was Alya sharing the photo with her.
            “I have to go.”
            “Already?”
“My parents want me home. They’re a little worried with the storm so fresh on people’s minds.”
“Ok. Will you come visit again?”
“Maybe. Marc and Nathaniel reached out, wanting to hang out sometime soon since we won’t see each other in class this year.”
Alya huffed playfully. “Abandoning me for some artists. I see how it is.”
Marinette giggled. “What can I say? Birds of a feather flock together. Besides, I’ll see if Juleka can join me. It might be a good opportunity to have her model for me.”
“Good. It’s about time you got that going.”
“All thanks to you, Alya. But I do have to get going. I’ll see you later. And nice meeting you, Chat.”
“I can walk you out, if you’d like,” Chat offered.
            “Awe. You’re leaving too, Kitty?”
“Unfortunately. I can’t be out too long during the day.”
            “Fine. Leave me all alone.”
            “You have me,” Fang said.
Alya scooped up Fang and scratched behind Fang’s ears. “And I’m glad I do.”
Marinette smiled and waved good-bye as she and Chat left. Once they were away from Alya’s room, she turned to Chat.
“Thank you for coming to see her. It was really sweet of you.”
“Of course. She didn’t have to take the hit for me and Ladybug given what could have happened, but I’m glad she’s ok.”
“Me too. As intuitive as she is, she can be reckless at times. Always ready to jump the moment she feels anything off.”
“Has she always been that way?”
“As long as I could remember. It makes it difficult to hide things from her, and she can be very pushy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
            “Really?”
“Of course. She’s always been there to help me when I’m in a bind, to jump to my defense, or even knock me down a few pegs. I wouldn’t have her any other way as Alya or Louve Grise.”
“I’m glad she has you. We all need people we can rely on, don’t we?”
“Of course. Do you have people like that?”
“I do now and I’m glad. And now I have you and your friends, don’t I?”
Marinette blushed. “Yeah, I guess you do. Just be prepared. We are a unique crew.”
“Now you’ve intrigued me. Do tell more.”
“Well, you know Alya, and me now. There’s Juleka, who’s usually quiet as a mouse and watches everything. Alix, who’s rather rebellious, brash, and very much rubs people the wrong way. And Rose, who’s a ride or die romantic.”
“Quite the friends you got there, but what about you? What are you like?”
“Oh, there’s not much to me. Just an average girl with her head up in the clouds.”
“I wouldn’t say that. Alya mentioned artists when you spoke of your other friends. Are you an artist too?”
“I suppose. It’s mostly fashion designs, but they aren’t anything that spectacular. You want to see spectacular, you should see Nathaniel and Marc’s work. They’re working to create a comic book together. They’ll probably be working on it when we meet up.”
“Is that so? Would this be an invitation?”
“Why not? I’m sure they’d love to meet one of Paris’ newest defenders.”
“If I happen to be in the neighborhood, I’ll drop in.”
“Sounds like a plan. I’ll update you when we finalize the details.”
            “Sounds purr-fect.”
Marinette snorted and nudged Chat. “That’s awful.”
            “Maybe, but it’s fun.”
Marinette giggled as she rolled her eyes. They stepped outside into the bright, sunny day.
“I’ll see you later, Chat. It was nice meeting you.”
            “Likewise. Later, Marinette.”
~~
Alya finished dinner as she pulled out her phone. It had been a long day after Marinette and Chat’s visit. Doctors and nurses constantly in and out to check on her, but now it was time to work.
“Alright, Fang, let’s get to work.”
            Fang nodded and vanished.
While Fang scouted, Alya set up a system with Rose. Alya gave Chat’s new number to Rose and the other girls but gave Mayura and Queen Bee’s numbers only to Rose. They worked to check the numbers but couldn’t match them to ones they had. After that, they put together a list of snacks needed for the kwamis. They decided on cookies for Tikki, biscuits for Fang, trail mix for Mullo, and camembert for Chat’s kwami. Rose would get the food tomorrow and ensure everyone had some on hand. Last thing Alya did was make a separate group chat where they could discuss hero work and have free of clutter. Once she did that, she gleefully added Chat to the main group chat with the girls.
Alya watched the chaos of Alix as she flipped out over having a guy added to the girl chat while everyone else ignored her to welcome Chat. That devolved into Rose scolding Alix for her behaviors while Marinette talked with Chat. Alya grinned as she shared the photo of a pouty Marinette with the rose from earlier. Marinette’s attention immediately shifted to Alya while everyone else complimented her.
Alya snickered as she looked through her gallery for another photo, preferably one of deer-in-headlights Marinette. She paused when she came across the one she took with her, Ladybug, and Chat after the Stoneheart attack. She stared at Chat in the picture as a creeping familiarity returned.
Alya hadn’t had a moment to fully take in Chat, not with all the craziness. Today, during his visit, she had that chance to size him up. When she did, she felt that same familiarity. She had met him, seen him, something before. Now, as she stared at his face more, that feeling turned into a nagging sensation. She knew his face from somewhere, but where?
Alya put her phone down and closed her eyes. She looked at all the people in her life. She started with her family and ran through the list of familiar faces she had seen with them. She didn’t see Chat’s face hidden amongst her family, so she looked to her friends. She started with Marinette and their mutual friends, and it was there that the face cropped up. Photos scattered in Marinette’s room. Reference pictures on Juleka’s phone. A face she had seen just as many times now as she did when it was younger. A face she had met once in person for the briefest of moments.
Alya picked up her phone and looked at Chat again. She could see it now, but just to be safe she had to double check. She went into her browser and looked up Adrien Agreste. She picked a recent closeup of him and compared it to Chat. She saw the same face in both boys, though the hair and eyes threw her off. As Adrien, he was well-groomed and pristine with common green eyes. As Chat, he was wild and unkempt with bright, green cat eyes. Regardless of those small details, they were the same. She grinned and opened up her messages to Marinette. She couldn’t wait to share this with Marinette. She could just imagine the shock when she’d tell Marinette that her crush is on Adrien again. She started to type but stopped.
Guilt gnawed at Alya and she deleted the draft. She couldn’t do that to Marinette. She personally didn’t care for the rules Tikki put in place for Marinette and thought Marinette should know. However, she couldn’t tell Marinette now. If Marinette knew Chat was Adrien, she’d completely push him away and shut him out. She didn’t want to kill the crush Marinette had on Chat. Especially after she noticed that Chat might have feelings for Marinette and knew the truth.
Alya leaned back in her bed, lifted her right hand up, and stared at the chain ring bracelet. If she helped them, she needed to tread lightly. She had to keep Marinette from learning the truth about Chat, which should be simple enough. Marinette was perceptive when she wanted to be, but she doubted Marinette would put two and two together unless it was spelled out for her. Chat would be the only wild card in the equation. She would need to talk with him about this. She’d need to find out what he wanted, and if he wanted the same as Marinette would, she’d help them.
Fang materialized beside Alya. “What are you thinking about?”
“Oh, nothing important. So, how was scouting?”
“Only one thing to report. The horse and rabbit have arrived within the city.”
            “What?”
“Yes. The horse, the kwami of freedom, and the rabbit, the kwami of connection. They are a paired set that tend to travel together like Bug and her cat do.”
            “Should we be worried?”
“I wouldn’t. At least until the horse picks a holder. She tends to love the rebellious youth.”
“If we’re lucky, she’ll pick our Alix. Girl has rebellion down to an art.”
“Well, we do have a lucky charm.”
“Very true. I suppose we just wait and see, don’t we?”
Fang nodded. “Now, where are the biscuits?”
Alya watched Fang track down her food. Alya checked her phone. Marinette and Rose chatted with Chat still while Alix had quieted down. She sent a message to Chat that she wanted to meet alone either before or after she was out of the hospital. She was relieved to see him agree to whichever came first and that he’d let her know. She smiled as she relaxed. All the groundwork had been set.

Dark Cupid--Happy Valentines' Day!
I know I'm a bit late, but suffice it to say that I had a lot going on. Just wanted to pop in, say hi, and give you a mini-recap on one of my favorite episodes in Season 1 of Miraculous, Dark Cupid!
Because most of you Miraculers who follow me are in season 5 by now, and have probably watched this episode as many times as I have, I'll make this quick.
So basically, we start with Miss Bustier's class, talking about fairytales. Adrien is writing a love poem, and when called out, gets savage toward his teacher, yadda yadda yadda...
Tumblr media
Adrien then throws out his poem, thinking it not good enough for Ladybug. Sabrina and Chloe make him sign his autograph, even though he hates it, by telling him it's for a good cause.
After class, Marinette goes digging in the trash to see what it is that Adrien was writing. She finds what she was looking for, but not before Chloe and Sabrina imply that she's poor and homeless. (I guess they were feeling good about themselves after getting Adrien to sign that poster)
Tumblr media
Marinette reads Adrien's poem, assumes it was about her (thanks to Tikki), and celebrates.
Tumblr media
Marinette meets up with Alya, and they see Max and Kim talking about a ~mystery girl~ Kim wants to ask to be his Valentine. Like the great friends they are, they encourage and support him. Then Kim becomes a runner and a trackstar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And can I say that the look Max gives as Kim leaves? Like a proud dad. This was definitely one of Max's best episodes.
Tumblr media
So Marinette is encouraged by Kim's situation (and Alya) and decides to write Adrien a poem. We then see an amazing BFF handshake we NEVER. SEE. AGAIN.
Tumblr media
We skip to Chloe and her lackey torturing Adrien's fanclub with the signed poster of Adrien. We get the infamous "she's not crying hard enough" scene, and that's that.
Tumblr media
Marinette is working hard to write a poem for Adrien, and Alya nags. She finally gains inspiration, and they head to mail it off.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Kim catches up with Chloe. Of course he would like Chloe. Man, I am so glad he gets Ondine later. Anyway, Chloe acts like a total jerk, so nothing new there. He gets akumatized, surprise, surprise, and turns into *GASP* Dark Cupid!
Dark Cupid makes people hate each other. So yeah. If you needed a comic relief, there's this guy shouting, "STUPID FLOWERS!"
Tumblr media
Chloe gets what's coming to her, as Sabrina gets hit and does to her exactly what she did to Kim. So yay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chat Noir tries to confess his love to Ladybug, but instead protects her from getting hit by Dark Cupid, where we get this famous sequence:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Funny how even then, he would sacrifice himself to save her) So anyway, a whole battle goes down and Ladybug realizes that she has to kiss Chat. Obviously, the "Get back, you savage!" had to be put in here.
Tumblr media
So Chat Noir (even more Noir than before!) and Dark Cupid are working together, and can I say that they become bros so quick?!
Tumblr media
Anyway, you all know what happens next: Chat foreshadows Chat Blanc, as well as Destruction by saying that he wanted to cataclysm a person. Then, Ladynoir's famous first kiss. And Evil Chat is enjoying EVERY SECOND of it.
Tumblr media
And then Ladybug yeets Chat at Dark Cupid.
Tumblr media
And then the good guys win, as per usual. Chloe gets what she deserved; her poster of Adrien is ruined by Sabrina (even though it should've been reversed by the magical ladybugs).
Tumblr media
Adrien gets Marinette's Valentines card, but it isn't signed, so he thinks it's from Ladybug for some reason. Like, what?! And then he doesn't put two and two together until Season 3, episode: Stormy Weather 2. Um, excuse you?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Calm down, simpy boy.
Personally, I think because we've had a couple of Christmas episodes, we can probably have another Valentines' episode. There is so much you can do with Valentine's day, and I feel like they cramped a lot of really good ideas into one episode. Oh, well...
So yeah, that's my recap of one of the best episodes in Season 1. I love this episode, and it mostly serves as a comfort episode when things are too serious.
Any commentary I made in this post is purely opinion, and it's not meant to be taken seriously. Love you guys, byeeeeee

You'll Survive Chapter 2
Miraculous Ladybug | 2018 | 902 | Ao3 | Masterlist | Prev | Next
Alya’s roommates are starting to really bug her. Why do they have to remodel for summer again?
Chloe and Marinette do not have much in common, and the things they did, they were loath to admit. Were. As in, when they were in collège were.
Nowadays, they’re both more mature, and admit such things with ease.
Like their love for the summer months, their fashion sense, their natural leadership skills, their relatively high standards foodwise, their insect-based Miraculi, their competitiveness, yada-yada.
The only problem was when one of these turned into a debate. Pink or Yellow? Flowers or shapes? Cats or Bees? Repaint or use wallpaper? Smashbox or Chanel? Video games or rom coms? Macaroons or Sushi?
And frankly, it was starting to really bug Alya. Pun intended.
Chloe had been a rather good roommate so far, and Marinette was still the best roommate. But really? Really?
Alya wished she could get the two girls to drop the idea. Alya thought it was absolutely crazy to redesign their living room because it’s summer and the decor doesn’t fit. Chloe and Marinette were of a differing opinion. Alya might have not minded as much if they hadn’t spend most of the last three hours fighting about how.
“We have to get them to stop this.”
“How?” Trixx asked in reply, watching with interest as the two bickered about color swatches.
“Pollen? Tikki?” Alya asked hopefully.
“You can’t,” Pollen replied, as if stating a fact. “Spring is when Honeybees start to build the year’s colony. It’s a time of rebirth and renewal, even for Chloe. This is natural for her.”
“And Marinette?”
Tikki shrugged. “I don’t think she’ll back down from the challenge. We need to get them to compromise.”
Alya groaned. “Are you both sure about this?”
“Yes,” The Kwami replied in unison. Alya groaned again.
“Alya! We need your opinion!” Marinette called, waving her over.
“What?”
“Go Alya! Use your head! Be a peacemaker!” Trixx encouraged, wiggling excitedly.
“What’s up?” she asked, navigating the mess of papers slowly.
“Which one is better?” Chloe laid out three samples. One was a full square of a basic offwhite, one was bright yellow splattered with hot pink flowers and pale yellow polka-dots, and the last was a muted salmon, orange and pink flowers with green stems swirling across it.
“For what?” Alya asked slowly, looking between her roommates.
“A wallpaper,” Marinette answered promptly. “She’s convinced we have to repaint, I think one of these wallpapers is a better idea, as they can be added on faster and then we can get this over with. Plus, I think they’ll be easier to switch out if we decide to do this again.”
“Like the seasonal couch covers you made?” Alya guessed.
“Roughly,” Marinette shrugged.
“Hold up, seasonal couch covers?” Chloe asked, looking around.
“Yeah. I haven’t switched them out yet, but I made some last year.”
“What would they go with? Marinette how are we not considering this with those in mind?” Chloe screeched. Alya winced, Chloe still had a pair of lungs, that’s for sure.
“I am!” Marinette defended hotly.
“Guys, you’ll never decide if you’re always fighting,” Alya warned.
“That’s why you’re here Alya,” Chloe quipped back.
“It is?”
“You’ve lived here longer, and it is partially your house, so what’s your opinion?”
Alya looked over the swatches again. “This one,” she pointed at the salmon and flowers one, “Totally this one. I’m not Marinette, but I think it’ll go with the other summer stuff.”
“See?”
“Oh hush Marinette. I guess you might be right Alya, but I’ll have to see these covers first.”
Alya figured Chloe was right. Seeing things together always seemed to help Marinette make a final decision, so maybe it’d help Chloe too.
“Hang on, let me get my phone,” Alya started, but the device was dropped into her hand by Tikki before she could move. “Thank you.” She nodded at the Kwami and pulled up the photo from months ago.
She’d saved the photo to fifteen different places, so despite Marinette’s best efforts, Alya still had it. She had taken it one night after patrol ended in a crazy Akuma attack, and Adrien and Marinette had collapsed into each other on the couch, at the time a mulberry purple color. They looked adorable, leaning on each other’s shoulders with a space where not-caught-on-camera Tikki and Plagg had been inbetween them. She wasn’t letting her friend delete the photo, ever.
Chloe snatched the phone out of Alya’s hand and held the phone against the swathes one at a time.
“Yeah, I suppose I agree. The yellow would make the purple pop, but it might be overly bright, so the Salmon seems the best option.”
“Is that a compromise?” Trixx asked hopefully, floating beside Alya’s head.
“I think so,” Marinette said brightly. “What do you three think?”
“I think it fits.”
“I don’t see why not.”
“It’ll do.”
“Then it’s decided! Thank you guys!” Marinette smiled at the Kwami and started to pick up the mess of papers she and Chloe had out.
“Oy! Let me clean up, you go make arrangements for us to actually get the stuff,” Chloe made a shooing motion at Marinette with one hand and grabbed the papers from Marinette.
“I helped make the mess!” Marinette argued, pulling them back.
“Well-”
Alya stood up and navigated her way back to the kitchen. These two! Hopefully their shared love for summer will have the girls going outside separately, so fights like this wouldn’t keep up.

Day 5: plus one
“Marinette!” She turns around as Adrien catches up to her. “Yes?” He turns to his bag and pulls out an invitation. “I don’t know if you heard but father’s is hosting the Doré Ball. I was wondering if you wanted to go, jagged is gonna be there and so will a lot of fashion industry people.”
Marinette smiles, “it sounds fun, I’d love to.” Adrien perks, “Great! I’ll see you Saturday!” The two part and Marinette tries her best not to freak out.
when in her room she flops onto the chaise and starts ranting to Tikki. “Can you believe it! He’s exited to see me Saturday!” She sits up suddenly, “Wait! Saturday, It’s in two days! What am I going to wear?! If fashion industry people are going to be there I have to make something!” Tikki brings Marinette her sketch pad and helps her look through it, “Oo! You’ve already started in this one, it wouldn’t be too hard to finish.” She thinks about it for a moment, “I don’t know.. It’s so much simpler than what I made Juleka.” Tikki flips to the sketch, “It’s simpler because you designed Juleka’s to fit her personality, and either way wouldn’t it be better for people to see a wider range of your work?” Once again her reasoning was solid, Mari smiles and goes over to her sewing machine to start working.
——
The Agreste’s car pulls up to the venue and Adrien takes Marinette’s hand, helping her out of the car. She has an off the shoulder light pink tulle dress with 3D flowers in loose lines up to the lace up top, hair down and minimal makeup. “Sorry we have to be here so early,” Adrien says. “It’s alright, I’d probably be pacing around my room if I was at home.” He smiles and lets out a small laugh.
After a few hours of setup and watching Gabriel argue with the decoration crew guests start arriving. Juleka walks in with the dress Marinette made her, some silver accessories added, wearing black fishnet tights and black platform wedges. Her hair tied up like the other day and slightly glittery eyeshadow over her normal smokey eye look.
“Marinette! You’re here!” The girls hug each other as best they can given their large skirts. “Right! I was so busy with my dress I totally forgot to tell you Adrien invited me!”
A woman walks up to Juleka, “Pardon my interruption but I just have to know where you got that dress.” Juleka spins, “My friend made it herself.” The woman looks pleasantly surprised, “Really?! Well I’m quite impressed, what’s your name?” She smiles nervously, “Marinette Dupan-Cheng.” The woman’s eyes widen, “Aren’t you also the girl who designed Jagged Stones album cover?” Marinette nods her head. The woman gives her a pleased smile and walks off leaving a squealing Marinette behind, “I can’t believe that just happened!!”
Both the girls dresses get more and more comments as the night moves forward and by the end Marinette is left with more business cards than could fit in her pockets.
And yes, the dresses have pockets.

Wishes & Wands (and other miraculous adventures) - Part I
The first chapter of my fic for the @mlbigbang 2022 is ready! I'm so happy to finally share this with you all <3
Read on Ao3
Tags: Alternate Universe - Fairy Tale, Fantasy, Summoned Heroes, Magic Powers, Fluff, Mildly Sarcastic Narractor, Rivals to friends to lovers (eventually), Plagg is a book, Tikki is also a book, Actual Cat Adrien Agreste | Chat Noir, Slow burn, Ladynoir, ML Big Bang 2022
Summary: Wishing upon a star has been something Adrien grew up doing, but he never imagined it would end up like this. Sucked into a world of fairy tales that need to be brought to completion, he faces stories that are far more different than he's ever heard them told, and the endings aren't always quite what he expects. He'll have help along the way, though, with his trusty (and lazy) magic storybook, and a mysterious girl who seems to always be one step ahead of him.
Tumblr media
Part I: Wish Upon a Star
The first chapter of our tale, in which Adrien finds himself in a strange place, with a strange man and an even stranger talking book.
“I wish… I wish I could have a real adventure. Be a real hero… be anywhere but here.”
And just like that, he was.
The forest that had appeared ahead of him was unfamiliar and open. He squinted, looking up at sunlight filtering through the trees. One second he’d been standing in his room, leaning over the windowsill and looking up at a starry night sky; the next second he was on his back in something soft, his lungs filled with the cleanest air he’d ever inhaled in his life.
Glancing downward, he could see that his clothes were different too. Designer quality items had been replaced by weathered but rough fabrics in a style he could only compare to something straight out of a fantasy movie, or a medieval history book. He pressed his hands against the ground below him and, feeling soft grass and moss, used them to push himself upright.
“Where am I?” he mused out loud, for plot convenience.
“You’re in the enchanted forest of Ever After, Adrien,” an aged voice said from behind him.
He whipped his head around, nearly breaking his neck as he faced the robed man behind him.
“Enchanted forest? How-what? Who are you?” he questioned, his spine straightening as he managed to get to his feet, overcome with confusion as he looked around further. It was true that the forest did look… magical, if he were to characterize it. In fact, upon a closer look, enchanted was about the only word that seemed to suit it. There were flowers and vines twining around everything, and they glowed with light. In fact, almost everything seemed to glow, even the air itself. “I don’t understand. How did I get here?”
The old man smiled, mirth in his eyes as he started to walk down one of the paths away from Adrien. “You wished for it.”
Adrien stiffened in place. “But that was just… talking to myself. It’s not like I could actually wish myself somewhere else.”
“No, not exactly. We heard your wish and brought you here. I am Master Fu, a member of the Order of Fates. And you, Adrien, have a quest to begin. Come along.”
Scrambling over his own feet to follow him, Adrien hurriedly caught up and walked just behind the cloaked figure. “A quest? What kind of quest? Do I get a sword? But I don’t know how to use a sword. Will I have to use it?” he said, nearly tripping over his own tongue.
“All of your questions will be answered in time.”
“That’s not really an answer,” he mumbled in a half pout, folding his arms over his chest.
The old man only chuckled and continued walking forward. Soon enough they came into a clearing occupied by a large, gnarled tree aglow with orbs of light and a mossy stone dais in front of it.
“Step up to the dais to receive the Storybook of Ages,” he said quietly, standing aside and gesturing Adrien forward. “If you’re worthy, you may yet save us all.”
Frowning, Adrien nudged his own feet forward, not even remembering when he’d frozen in place. A few short steps later he was standing upon the carved stone. As his hands came to rest on the edges of the podium, he closed his eyes, waiting in fear and anticipation.
And nothing happened. In fact, he thought he looked almost idiotic, standing silently and waiting for something to happen even though no one had activated the thing he was waiting for.
“Oh, right. Thank you!” the old man mumbled awkwardly, remembering that he was supposed to be doing something instead of just standing around like a lump on a log. “It’s been so long since we summoned a hero that I’d forgotten, old friend.”
He stepped forward, knocking in a particular rhythm on the stone of the podium. As soon as he finished he stepped back and…
Nothing happened.
“Fates be damned, did I get it wrong?” he whispered to himself. If he’d have some patience, however, and give it just a moment more…
Finally, a low thump sounded deep under the podium and the air began to sing with energy, the glowing lights of the tree condensing over the top of the podium. Adrien, unsure of what was happening and startled by the noise, picked the worst possible moment to open his eyes and was blinded by a flash of light centimeters from his face.
All at once, the lights disappeared again and in their place, he could only hear the faint ruffling of pages. Opening his eyes again tentatively, he glanced down at where a large leatherbound book lay atop the stone.
“Woah,” he said softly, reaching down to pick the volume up.
“Hey, hey, watch where you’re putting your hands, kid,” yawned a voice as the book fluttered open on its own, seeming to come to life and stretch itself out.
“Oh, fates. Not him. Take him back, do you hear me?” Fu called out, quite uselessly into the open air because no one was listening to him.
“It has been a looooong time since I’ve gotten to run free,” the voice spoke, and now Adrien was sure that it was the book, as if that hadn’t already been obvious. “What’s your name, Chosen?”
“Uh… Adrien?” he answered, not sure it was best to question why exactly a book was talking to him.
“Not a bad name, kid. Where are you from?” the book asked again, pages fluttering every time it spoke somehow.
Adrien, to his credit, didn’t hesitate nearly as much upon answering this time. “Paris, France.”
“Oh, France! They’ve got good cheese there, fancy stuff. I don’t suppose you’ve got any cheese on you? Camembert maybe?”
“But you can’t eat cheese, can you? You’re a book. I don’t really see how you could eat anything.
The book seemed confused by his confusion, ruffling as it spoke again. “Of course I can have cheese, I- wait. I’m a what?”
This time, Adrien paused and seemed to consider his options, not that he had many. “You’re… a book?”
“A book. A book?” All the sudden the book floated up into the air, spinning in circles and flipping through its pages from cover to cover. “Where’s my ears? And my beautiful tail? Fu, this was not the deal, you old badger!”
Fu blanched slightly, failing at hiding his guilty and perturbed look. The situation was surely not… ideal, but there was not much about it that could be helped now. “Plagg, I would not have brought you out by choice. It seems the fates have decided that you are needed.”
The book somehow looked… irritated, if that was possible. Even without a face, the crinkle of pages and bend of the cover suggested annoyance. Adrien seemed at least less surprised than before. “Plagg? Is that your name?” he questioned, head tilting towards the weathered black volume.
“The one and only, kid. Spirit of chaos and destruction, at your service against my will,” the book drawled, every drop of enthusiasm leeched from the words.
“At my service for… what, exactly?” Adrien asked, glancing between Fu and the talking book. So far, all he knew about what lay ahead of him was that it could be considered a quest, and unfortunately his brain could conjure up a vast number of possibilities that fell under that umbrella.
“Adrien Agreste, you have been brought to Ever After for the purpose of saving all happy endings. Plagg, your Storybook Spirit, will accompany you and serve as a guide as you navigate the tales ahead of you. His energy embodies the Storybook of Ages to help you along your quest. In the pages, you will find many tales, some familiar and some very much not so, and you must guide them all to their proper endings, whatever they are meant to be.”
Pausing to take it all in, Adrien stared silently at Fu, the gears of his mind visibly turning behind his eyes until the quiet became unbearably awkward.
Fu sighed slightly, frowning upwards at the sky. “Adrien, I know it sounds like a monumental task-”
“So what’s first?” Adrien cut in abruptly, as if his mind had just finished parsing through the information.
Stammering to a stop, Fu managed to quell his shock and stumble into an answer. “That choice is mostly yours, but I did have two pieces of advice for you, and a warning that I hope you will heed. I can tell the temptation to rush headfirst into this is great, but you must exercise caution and restraint.”
“What do you mean?”
It was something in his eyes that made Adrien listen. The concerned tilt of his brows, the way his pupils darted from side to side, looking for interlopers to the conversation.
“The stories may not end the way you think or remember. You must be ready to bring them to whatever ending the Storybook presents you with, or Ever After as we know it may fall apart. Listen to its pages.”
“I understand. How will I know what to do, to guide the stories to the right endings?” Adrien asked, uncertainty lacing his voice.
Humming quietly, Fu stroked his chin in consideration. “Follow your heart and I have the feeling that it will lead you best.”
Nodding, Adrien could only look over at his Storybook, still floating above the dais. “But which story do I start with?” he murmured to himself, gingerly plucking the book from the air, hoping not to annoy the spirit possessing it again.
“Well, kid, don’t you have a favorite fairy tale?” the spirit asked, his pages ruffling back and forth slowly.
“I’ve read plenty; I just don’t know if any of them are my favorite. I guess I just like anything that ended happily. I’ve always wanted to find my own true love.”
“Oh great, you’re that kind of sap,” Plagg grouched.
Adrien frowned, the insult obvious in the book’s words. “What’s wrong with wanting a true love?”
Plag huffed, pages fluttering as if real air had been released. “Nothing, nothing, kid. Let me just take a guess here though. Sleeping Beauty?” he questioned, flipping to a page labeled Little Brier-Rose.
“That one is a little questionable, isn’t it? I mean, the princess is asleep for most of it. And isn’t there a dragon? I don’t think I’m ready for that.”
“So picky. Snow White then? Oh, or maybe the Glass Coffin. Haven’t had anyone try that one in ages. Maybe even Allerleirauh, if you’re interested in sticking out, though that one is… odd.” Plagg rambled, flipping through pages faster than Adrien could read them. Suddenly, his eyes caught on one story in particular, the cursive C standing out before it flickered away in the rush of pages.
“Wait, that one, Plagg. That’s it. Cinderella,” he said with surety in his voice finally. “It’s simple, no magical evil to fight, just… a bad parent.”
“Hmm… that could work,” Plagg hummed, flipping back to the appropriate page. “And it looks like someone’s already started it for us and never finished. Probably got bored, ha.”
And so, filled with overconfidence and self-assuredness, Adrien and Plagg chose their first story. Though unfortunately for them, nothing about it was simple as it appeared.
“Adrien,” Fu interjected, interrupting with more obvious foreshadowing. “You may not always find yourself playing the role you expect in these stories. They have a way of tricking Heroes. Above all else, never reveal to anyone your true, full name. There is power in possessing it.”
As he spoke, the wind in the forest picked up, and Adrien could feel himself drawn to the pages before him. Despite the gale around them, the paper was stone still, and it was almost as if the illustration under its title shimmered with movement.
“Time to go, kid. Hope you’re ready!”
“Wait, Master Fu, what did you mean by-”
Before Adrien could even start his next word, the ever-impatient Plagg had rushed forward to meet his grasp, and suddenly the pages under his fingers were not paper at all, but open air, and all at once he was free-falling through it.

Are we still Heroes?  Jasonette July 4: Temptation
Masterlist | AO3
Marinette is alone and hurting, her partner is gone, and now the Kwami have taken her all the way across the ocean to Gotham City, where she crashes into the back of the infamous Red Hood, the 19-year-old once vigilante now crime lord.
First | Prev | Next
Ladybug stands on top of the chapel roof, looking out on the hundreds of Parisians who were gathered below her. Occasionally she would see someone point at her, or even wave. She ignored them, they weren’t the reason she was here.
——————————————
Pulling Hawkmoth’s miraculous from him, Ladybug rushed to Adrien’s side. She yelled for her lucky charm, barely taking a moment to look at the rose with a red stem and black petals, before tossing it back into the air and trying to cast her miraculous cure.
It doesn’t work. The rose falls back to the ground, and she stares at it in shock. She grabs it and tries again. It’s the same result.
“No! No no no! Why isn’t it working?” She picks it up again. “Miraculous Ladybug! Miraculous Ladybug! Miraculous Ladybug!” She tries again and again, but there’s no swarm of ladybugs that fly out to heal her partner like every time before, just a black petalled rose that falls back to the ground. Marinette starts crying as her transformation times out, her suit disappearing in a flash of light.
“Tikki? Tikki, why isn’t it working?” Marinette asks, practically sobbing as she clutches the rose and her partner's unmoving hand.
The small god flies up to their chosen’s face. “I’m sorry Marinette, but without the energy from an akuma that created the damage, there’s no way to cast the cure.”
“No. No, there has to be a way to bring him back! He always comes back! I always bring him back. He can’t be gone! He can't be… I can’t lose him. Please, Tikki! Tell me how to bring him back!”
The kwami just looks at her sadly. “I’m so sorry, Marinette.”
——————————————
When Marinette stops crying, her actions are mechanical. Take the ring. Transform back into Ladybug. Call the police. Carry Adrien’s body to the ambulance. Give her statement to the police and explain what happened. Direct the police to Gabriel so they can arrest him.
She ignores Tikki and Plagg’s pitying faces. She ignores the worried looks that the officers are giving her. She ignores the paramedics shock when they realize it’s Chat Noir that she carried to them. She ignores the blood on the office floor and Gabriel’s broken face when she revels that the miraculous cure couldn’t bring Adrien back this time.
She ignores the news reporters and civilians gathered outside as she swings away. She ignores Tikki and Plagg as they ask if she’s okay when she detransforms and goes looking for cheese and cookies for them. She ignores everything, including her parents sleeping downstairs and her phone on the table, until the sun rises and Alya shows up.
——————————————
Alya heard the news when she checked her phone after waking up.
“Hawkmoth revealed, Gabriel Agreste arrested”
“Chat Noir Killed in final battle against Hawkmoth, revealed to be 18 year old Adrien Agreste”
She immediately calls her friend, trying to find out what happened. Marinette doesn’t pick up. She calls again, still no answer. Getting dressed quickly, she hurries out the door to Marinette’s house, making her way up the stairs and pushing open the trap door to Marinette’s room. She finds her friend sitting on her balcony, staring out over the Paris skyline.
“Marinette?” The girl turned to face her. “What happened?”
“He’s dead.”
“Adrien?” Alya asks quietly.
Marinette just nods.
Alya pulls her friend into a hug. “What happened?” she asks, and Marinette tells her everything.
——————————————
Ladybug watches as the people of Paris line up to pay their respects. They come by one by one, some saying thank you, some leaving flowers or gifts. Some of them are there with friends or family, some have come alone. She sees Alya and her other classmates come. Most of them are crying. She’s not though, where she’s standing on top of the church. She feels like all of her tears have dried up.
Slowly, the sun starts to set and fewer and fewer people stop by the grave, until eventually it gets dark and the gates of the cemetery close, leaving them alone.
She jumps down from the roof and walks over to the gravestone, detransforming and kneeling beside it.
“Hi Chaton. I’m sorry I couldn’t save you. I tried, I really did, but it didn’t work. I failed you and I’m so sorry.” Marinette lets the tears she’s been holding back fall, and she pulls out a rose with a red stem and black petals out of her jacket pocket. “I want to bring you back, to wish for you to be alive again, but I can’t do it, I’m so sorry.” She places the flower on the stone and stands up. “I love you, Adrien. I wish I could have told you that while you were still alive.”
Twelve hours later, she’s packed everything she wants to take with her into the magic extradimensional space in her yo-yo, and transforms with the horse miraculous, telling the kwami to open a portal to somewhere where Ladybug is needed.
She ends up landing on top of a nineteen year old crime lord, who tries to stab her. Good thing her suit is magic.

Miraculous Descendents Chapter 9: A Storm Is Brewing
Previous Chapter
Nate and Marinette were sitting in Nate's room playing video games.
Nate's room was about the same as Marinette's but with yellow walls. It also had a TV hooked up to multiple gaming systems. Set in front of the walls were shelves full of DVDs and books. There were posters also on the walls of the room.
However, they had another member with them today instead of Tikki. The person was a five-year-old girl.
The little girl had tan skin, brown eyes, and long blackish-brown hair in two pigtails.
The girl wore a white long-sleeve with pulled-up sleeves and purple overalls with pink flower petals. She also wore red flats with a strap on the top of the foot.
"Go, Marinette, go." The little girl called excitedly.
"I'm going, Manon." Marinette grins.
This is Manon Chamack. The daughter of Nadja Chamack. The newswoman who broadcasted Hawkmoth's announcement. Nadja Chamack is actually Sabine's friend from before she married Tom and moved into his hotel. Because of that, Marinette has babysat Manon a few times for Nadja. Today was one of those days.
"No, no, no!" Nate shouts in annoyance as he tries to beat Marinette.
They were playing a racing game where anything goes. Nate suddenly found his cart hit by a rocket. When this happens, he glares at Marinette while saying.
"Seriously, right on the finish line!" He shouts in anger.
Marinette only gives a playful smirk as Manon cheers.
"Yay, Marinette!" Manon shouts in joy.
Manon begins running around the room excitedly while cheering.
Nate watches this and leans toward Marinette.
"She is a ball of energy. How did you babysit her by yourself?" Nate asks with wide eyes.
"She's a good girl once you know how to handle her. Watch." Marinette tells him before looking at Manon.
"Manon, remember that weather girl contest you were excited about?" Marinette asks.
Manon stops and immediately runs towards Marinette excitedly.
"What weather girl contest?" Nate asks with a raised eyebrow.
"KIDZ+ Television has been holding a contest to see who their next weather girl will be. The finalists are two kids from our school." Marinette tells him.
Nate gains a surprised look on his face upon hearing that.
"Seriously, this should be interesting," Nate says.
They changed the TV to the KIDZ+ Television channel. They are now watching an adult male in his mid-twenties announce the contest.
The man was bald with tan skin, dark brown eyebrows, and brown eyes.
The man wore a light blue v-neck shirt with a buttoned collar, white pants, and black and white sneakers.
"Welcome back, everyone. I'm Alec Cataldi, the host of this contest. We've still got some time before the votes come in for our next weather girl. So, let's use that time to go over our lovely finalists." The host said enthusiastically.
The TV changed to a split-screen with two teenage girls on it.
The first girl has light skin, long ash-blond hair in low-angle twin tails, and light blue eyes.
She wore a light blue sleeveless dress under a white jacket and cyan flats. The girl is holding an umbrella with the same color scheme as her outfit.
The second girl has light skin, brown eyes, and shoulder-length dark blue hair in a bowl-cut.
The girl wore a navy blue long-sleeve shirt with white flowers. She also wore white pants and ruby low-heel pumps.
After showing the two, the screen went back to Alec. Who smiles and says.
"For those who don't already know, let me tell you about them."
Suddenly, the background swapped to an image of the first girl.
"Our lovely parasol princess is Aurore Beaureal. A student at Françoise Dupont. Her father is a gondolier, and her mother works at a hospital as a nurse. It seems they enjoy helping people. Whether it's with love or their health." Alec said with a smile.
The second girl's image then appeared behind Alec.
"Our Parisian Dorthy is Mireille Caquet. She is also a student at Françoise Dupont. Her father is a librarian, while her mother is a dentist. Not only that, but Mireille often volunteers at the local animal shelter.
"And here's a crazy coincidence. Not only are these two in the same school and grade. They are also in the same class. What are the chances of that?" Alec enthusiastically asks as an image of Françoise Dupont appears behind him.
Nate cocks an eyebrow at this information.
"Okay, that is a weird coincidence." He tells Marinette and Manon.
"Yeah, I was surprised too when Manon told me about the contest." Marinette nods.
"Yay, Mireille." Manon excitedly cheers.
"Now, remember that if you want your favorite finalist to win, you'll have to submit your vote on our website. The voting will close this early afternoon, so you better hurry." Alec says with a smile.
Manon bounces up and down excitedly and looks at Marinette pleadingly.
"Can I have your phone, Marinette? Please, please, please." Manon pleads with puppy dog eyes.
"Okay, Manon," Marinette says as she pulls out her phone.
However, Manon snatches it the second she gets it out of her pocket and runs over to the bed while excitedly going to the website.
"I think we'll have to get you a new phone." Nate snickers in amusement.
Adrien was currently listening to his Kwami. Who was questioning him about the show he's been watching for the past two days. All the while, said Kwami was relaxing on his cheese wheel.
"Why do the monsters never attack the mecha parts? If they know it will be more powerful as one being, why not stop that? Most obviously lack any honor. For that matter, what happens to civilians during those battles. They can't have evacuated that quickly." Plagg states to Adrien.
"I'm not sure, Plagg. It never really displays those scenes in the show." Adrien tells him.
"Well, I'll say the franchise isn't bad. I've seen worse during my time. Though, characters here and there come off as rather bland." Plagg tells him.
"Then you'll probably enjoy the American version of the series less. Specifically, the more recent ones." Adrien tells him with a chuckle.
Plagg doesn't say anything and stares at Adrien with a smirk. Adrien gets nervous and asks.
"What?"
"Oh, nothing, just couldn't help but notice you seem to be more comfortable with me now." Plagg smirks.
Adrien gains an embarrassed look and goes.
"Sorry, I wasn't expecting you to talk about one of my favorite franchises. I couldn't help but make the joke."
"And back to square one." Plagg flatly says with a deadpan look.
After a little bit of time, Adrien remembered a question he wanted to ask Plagg.
"Hey Plagg, can I ask you a question?" Adrien requests his Kwami.
"Sure, kid, I'm your mentor after all. It's in my job description to give you answers or advice every so often." Plagg lazily said.
"Why does Ladybug have three powers?" Adrien asks.
"Well, unlike me, Tikki always liked to spoil her Chosen. I prefer to make them start from scratch. Especially when my Chosen are like you." Plagg tells him.
"So, it has nothing to do with her herself?" Adrien asks curiously.
"Oh, no, it does. That girl seems better grounded than you. That's most likely from a better support system. However, I can tell that you and she have a similar aura. So, you'll likely get up to her eventually." Plagg tells him.
Adrien stares at Plagg for a time contemplating Plagg's words.
"I wonder if that'll be true; maybe I can ask her? We haven't spoken since Stoneheart." Adrien thought to himself.
Indeed, Hawkmoth had been quiet since Stoneheart. He and Ladybug also didn't know how to contact the other either. That's a problem they should probably fix after the next Akuma.
"Also, why doesn't the military get involved with those heroes? I would think they'd be trying to take control of that giant robot." Plagg tells Adrien.
At the KIDZ+ TV station, Aurore and Mireille are getting ready for the contest. They were both in separate dressing rooms given to them for the contest's duration.
"This is my big chance. Mom and dad are going to be so proud of me. I have got this one in the bag. Mireille is way too shy to be on TV." Aurore giddily said to herself.
She looked at the mirror and made sure her hair and outfit were presentable. When satisfied with herself, she grinned.
"You have got this. You are a storm, and nothing can stop you." Aurore told herself.
Mireille was doing something similar in her room.
"I can't believe I managed to get this far. Theo said he thought I had a good chance, but I didn't expect to get to the finals." Mireille told herself in the mirror in a slight panic.
She then put her head into her hands and groaned.
"Oh, I don't know if I can do this; this feels like too much," Mireille mutters to herself in a slight panic.
"Jean said experiencing being on TV might help my confidence, but this wasn't what I expected," Mireille mutters to herself.
In another part of the building, Alec was talking on his phone.
"Yes, I want the balloons like that. Yes, I'm sure." Alec tells the person on the phone.
He then hangs up and puts his phone in his pocket.
"This is going to be amazing for ratings. Audiences love this kind of thing." Alec told himself with a grin.
After a few minutes, the contest started. Both Aurore and Mireille walked onto the stage. Aurore walks with a confident stride. Mireille, on the other hand, looked nervous. Alec walks to the middle of the stage with his cheery grin.
"It's finally time, everyone. Who will be our next hit weather girl? Will it be our Parasol Princess, Aurore?" Alec says as the camera zooms to Aurore.
Aurore waves to everyone watching and opens her parasol. She then rests it on her arm.
"Or will it be our Parisian Dorthy, Mireille?" Alec asks as the camera swaps to Mireille.
Mireille looked at the camera with a shy smile.
"Well, that is up to all of you. Just send in your votes, and whoever has the most votes at the end will win. Your favorite contestant's fate is in your hands. Good luck." Alec cheerily said with a smile.
Manon excitedly stares at the TV and presses her vote for Mireille.
"Go, Mireille," Manon excitedly said.
"I guess I'll vote then," Nate said as he pulled out his phone and went to the site.
However, Manon quickly steals his phone and votes for Mireille.
"Hey, that is not okay," Nate tells Manon.
"Manon, you can't take people's phones like that." Marinette chastises the girl.
"But I want Mireille to win," Manon whines as she clutches Nate's phone.
"That doesn't mean that you can take his phone. Now, give it back to him." Marinette orders while pointing at Nate.
"No," Manon says stubbornly.
"Manon, now," Marinette tells her with a slight glare.
"No!" Manon shouts before running.
"Manon, give me the phone," Marinette tells her as she and Nate start to chase her.
"Nooooo," Manon whines as she jumps on the bed.
Marinette and Nate quickly move to opposite sides of the bed.
"Can I please have my phone back, Manon?" Nate asks the little girl.
"Am I in trouble?" Manon asks.
"If you give me the phone back, then no. At least for me. Marinette?" Nate asks his step-cousin.
"Manon, if you don't give the phone back, I will tell your mom," Marinette warns her.
Manon looks at the phone before giving it to Nate.
"Sorry." The little girl tells him while looking down at the bed.
"You're fine, but don't do that again," Nate tells the girl as he takes his phone.
Manon doesn't say anything, and Marinette says.
"Let's finish watching the contest."
Manon perked up and immediately put her attention to the TV excitedly.
The votes were open to the audience for about an hour. To the step-cousins, Aurore, and Mireille's surprise, it was an overwhelming victory in Mireille's favor.
"Wow, will you look at that? An 82% in favor of our resident Parisian Dorthy. What an unexpected upset. Everyone, give a round of congratulations to our new KIDS+ Television weather girl, Mireille Caquet." Alec said as he began clapping towards Mireille.
A recording of cheers and claps played for Mireille as the camera focused on her. Aurore stares at her opponent in shock.
"82%? But we're both finalists. Plus, I've always done better than her during this contest. How did this happen?" She quietly mutters to herself in shock.
Gabriel senses these growing negative feelings in his office.
"Interesting. It seems someone is feeling a mix of shame, jealousy, and public humiliation. Not just any form of public humiliation, but the kind you would feel when on television." Gabriel thought as he stood up slightly.
Alec walks over to Aurore and smiles while telling her.
"Man, she crushed you. I guess you better luck next time." Alec tells her.
Aurore angrily glares at him before storming off.
"What's the big deal? You only lost by half a million votes!" Alec shouts toward her.
"Ah, and now anger has been added to her feelings. She will be perfect for my second Akuma." Gabriel thought with a smile.
Nooroo appears from the brooch under his tie.
"Nooroo, dark wings rise," Gabriel says as he transforms into Hawkmoth.
After he does this, Gabriel says something else.
"Kaleidoscope."
Akuma butterflies appear around Gabriel and transport him underground into his secret bunker. When he arrives, the dome window opens up to his glass window.
"It is time again," Gabriel said as he held out his hand.
He formed another dark energy construct of a butterfly.
"Fly my little Akuma, and let us form a contract with this girl." Hawkmoth orders.
Aurore angrily walks into the station's elevator. After the doors closed, Aurore fell to her knees and started crying.
"Why, why did she get so many more votes? How did I lose to her that badly?" Aurore cries to herself as she folds into a fetal position.
The Akuma slid through the closed elevator doors towards Aurore. Aurore looked up in time to see this Akuma. When she saw it, she panicked and swung her parasol at it.
"Getaway, I saw you on the news a couple weeks ago! I know what you want!" Aurore screams as she tries to fend off the Akuma with her parasol.
However, the action did nothing but help the Akuma. The Akuma enters the parasol, and Aurore seems to shut down. After her body stops moving, a butterfly outline appears in front of her face.
"It is not what I want, but what we want. I am here to give you the power to right the wrong done to you. In exchange, I want you to get me the Miraculous." Hawkmoth tells her in a somewhat soothing tone of voice.
"Yes, Hawkmoth," Aurore tells him as an evil smirk appears on her face.
Black smoke envelops Aurore, and when it dissipates, she is in her Akuma form.
Unlike Ivan, Aurore didn't turn into a monstrous being. She instead looked far more like a human supervillain.
Aurore's skin was now a pale grayish color, and her hair was now two-toned with dark purple hair and pale blue spirals. Her twin tails were now in a stinger-like style.
Over Aurore's face is a jagged black domino mask with lightning bolts going down the cheeks. Covering her entire body is a tight blackish-purple and blue two-piece dress with a bell-like skirt. On her abdomen is a light purple lightning bolt. There were lightning bolts on her legs. Her dress had puffed up shoulders and had long white gloves that covered the entire arm with lightning bolts above the elbows. Matching her cloves is a pair of white knee-high low-heel boots.
Her parasol has also changed. It was now dark purple with a pink pearl-like tip and rounded corners.
"It's time for the weather girl to make her forecast prediction, and Stormy Weather says that the people of Paris are in for some villainous weather," Aurore says with an evil smirk on her face.

Taking Flight - Chapter 11 - Our Winnings

“Since Paris doesn't want us, we'll just go to the Moon, just like in Jules Verne's book!” M. Pigeon cried as he and his pigeons took the Effiel Tower up. Ladybug and Chat Noir follow him with Ladybug’s yo-yo connected to the Eiffel Tower.
“And how do you figure you'll breathe in space, birdbrain?” Chat Noir called at him. Ladybug looked at her Lucky Charm as she tried to figure out what to do.
“Come, my dear pigeons! In space, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU COO!” M. Pigeon spoke to his dear pigeons. Ladybug’s face lit up as she gasps, she looked down at Chat Noir, “I know how to use my Lucky Charm!” Ladybug releases her yo-yo from the tower, “Let's bring him back to Earth before he hurts himself!”
From the ground Alya Césaire recorded the heroes, “Look at that folks! Cosmobug and Astrocat flying up to stop M. Pigeon for the sixty-forth time! They’re truly miraculous now, aren’t they? Remember the Ladyblog is first stop for all things Ladybug and Chat Noir! Alya Césaire live from Paris signing off!”
Ladybug and Chat Noir enter Gustave's office, Ladybug sets a book back down where she had retrieved it from, “There you go!”
Ladybug turns around to find Chat Noir with a yellow rose for her, “There you go! Oh wait you already said that.”
Ladybug’s frows come down, “Chat Noir, I've told you to stop bringing me flowers!”
“Yeah, I know,” Chat started. “When I tried to offer you a red rose, you told me that red symbolizes "passion", so you refused it! And I offered you a white rose, but you said that white stood for "pure love", and you refused it too! So now I'm offering you a yellow rose, because I've looked it up and yellow represents friendship. So here's to a perfect partnership.” Chat smiled contently displaying the rose for Ladybug.
Ladybug smirked at her partner, “Are you sure yellow roses don't represent jealousy?” Ladybug teased Chat, whose eyes widened with panic, “Uh- No. That would be blue roses? Hang on! No, purple!! Or was it orange?”
A fond smile falls upon Ladybug, she shook her head while chuckling, “You don't need to give me flowers! I already know you're the best partner ever, Chat Noir.” Ladybug grabbed the rose and took a sniff, “It smells really good anyway. Thanks, Chat!”
Ladybug leaves the office swinging down to Paris, waving to civilians before finding an empty alley just in time. She detransformed right after landing, Tikki zipping out of the earrings. Marinette reached into her bag and handle a cookie to Tikki. Tikki flies into Marinette’s open bag before Marinette breaks into a sprint through the streets, today her class would be informed if they won the contest or not to spend a week in New York.
Marinette almost falls as she rounds a corner but thankfully an advertisement holder saved her from eating concrete. Marinette took a moment to catch her breath, it was much easier to run at such lengths in the suit. Marinette glanced at the advertisement to see it was a Gabriel poster, with Adrien on it.
“Oh this must be from his photoshoot on Monday.” Marinette smiled at it, “That light green really compliments his hair.”
“Marinette, you'll be late for school,” Tikki said slightly peaking out of her bag. Tikki frowns at the poster, “I thought you were getting over Adrien.”
“I am! Adrien’s just been hyping up this line, he really liked it. And I’ve been waiting for it,” Marinette exclaimed. Did Tikki really think she was this shallow? “Not to mention this is Gabriel Fashion, I may not like him but he is a big designer. I study his work all the time.”
“You still need to get to school before you’re late,” Tikki reminded the dark-haired girl.
“Yes,” Marinette exclaimed and turned away from the poster. “Let's get going!” Marinette headed for school again. She came up the stairs and made her way to the library.
“There you are, girl!” Alya said pushing herself off the wall.
“Where were you dudette?”
“My parents didn’t know where I put a certain type of flour, I had to show them where it was,” Marinette rubbed her forearm.
“Okay well we’re about to watch our sock puppet video,” Alya said grabbing Marinette’s hand and pulling her into the library. Marinette frowned, “Why? We made it.”
“Something about appreciating our hard work or whatever,” Alya said having them sit near the front while Nino sat down in the back with Adrien.
“Huh,” Marinette looked up and they started the film. When it finished everyone clapped with M. Damocles and Mlle. Bustier.
“Truly a sensational student film, congratulations,” Mlle. Bustier said as she finished clapping.
“I must agree congratulations are in order,” M. Damocles stepped up. “You may have submitted it quite late but we are happy to announce that your class was one of the few that won! You will be leaving next Saturday after the gaming tournament, for your week-long stay.”
Everyone cheered and some squealed. Marinette lit up, she could go to New York, she already had plans on how to deal with being out of her city.
Chloé scoffed from the back, “Well I'm not going to New York . Have fun in that dump.”
“Actually Mlle. Bourgeois your father gave authorization for you to go. He was very insistent in fact,” the Principal smiled nervously but shrunk back as Chloé’s face turned a light shade of red.
“He what ,” Chloé growled out. Her classmates shared looks and shrugging their shoulders as Chloé stormed out of the library getting her phone out. Because why would she not want to go to New York?
“Uh…”
“I,” Mlle. Bustier stepped in, “on the other hand, regret to inform you that I can't come with you after all.”
Her students frowned and asked why.
“ I just have a few medical exams I couldn't reschedule, because... I will soon be having a baby!” Mlle. Bustier beamed at her students. They gave their congratulations and cheered for her at the news.
“Ms. Mendeleiev will be substituting for Ms. Bustier,” M. Damocles said earning him many students to groan and complain.
In the back, Nino looks over the Adrien, “Something wrong, buddy?”
Adrien sighs, “My father isn't going to let me go, as usual.”
Lila leaned back and, what looked similar to Nino, crawled over to them, “I'm stuck in Paris too! I have obligations because of my charity work, but we could see each other, if you'd like.”
“Uh,” Adrien chuckled nervously as he leaned away, “Thanks Lila!”
There was a strange hungry look in her eye that made Nino want to back away, and he was on the other side of Adrien. Adrien swallowed as he leaned toward Nino, clearly uncomfortable with Lila’s advances. Nino frowns at the Italian and opens his mouth the say to back up when Marinette shouts, “No!”
Marinette shuffles her feet feeling nervous and a bit embarrassed, her cheeks going red as a testament to that.
"I-I mean no! We made this film together," Marinette stands taller, in a way that reminds Adrien of his "Everyday Ladybug" comment, and he smiles. "Which means Adrien should come with us! He's our friend, and you don't let friends down. Just like in our film when Sock-Lafayette comes and helps his friend Sock-Washington fight for freedom!" Marinette's speech made some of her friends raise their heads high, some even nodding.
Marinette faces Adrien, looking solely at him," Adrien you're our Sock-Washington, you're our friend ! And as your friend, it is my duty to go convince your father to allow you to come with us!"
Nino cheers with everyone, and he smiled at Marinette. She certainly had changed a lot over the years. Nino glanced over at Adrien, who had a soft expression as he smiled at Marinette. But it was Lila that caught his attention, he was glaring at Marinette. Her face twisted in a nasty frown, it made Nino’s inside twist and his skin crawl.
Lila never looked at anyone like that, not even Chloé had ever looked at Marinette like this. Sure he had seen her send quick glares but this was, was…just pure hate . Before he could study Lila anymore Adrien took his attention away from her.
“Thank you Marinette, that means so much to me more than you know, but my father is a very difficult man to convince once he's made his mind up,” Adrien said looking a bit hopeless.
Marinette raised her head high with full confidence that Nino hadn't seen before, “Lucky for you so am I, and I never let a friend down. I'll convince your father.”
With that, Marinette left the library determination radiating off of her. Alya and some of the other girls followed after the Eurasian. Nino couldn’t help but feel proud, because despite Marinette always bragging about being a little older than Nino he always saw himself as her older brother. Nino grinned as his girlfriend followed the girl almost slack-jawed.
“Whoa,” the word came out airily beside Nino. Nino looked to see Adrien staring after Marinette eyes wide as saucers, and dare he say it, looking star-struck.
Oh, Alya was gonna love it when he told her.
“Adrien? Your friend? Since when!” Alya said at the lunch table, face bewildered. Because this can’t be the same Marinette she knows. Marinette doesn’t give up! Marinette has never given up before, not really at least.
“Yes, my friend,” Marinette stated twirling some noodles on her fork. “It’s high time I get over him, I was way over the top with everything about and surrounding him.”
Alix laughed, “No kidding.”
Marinette frowned at Alix who only shrugged at her and put her hands up, but she didn’t lose her sly face. Marinette sighed, “Besides thinking of him as just a friend has helped me talk to him lately. If I focus on purely being his friend then I’m not a hot mess around him.”
Alya opened her mouth to say something but Marinette put her hand up, “Also, I don’t like how it’s shaped other people’s views of me. To some people around the school I’m just “the girl who's obsessed with Adrien.” Do you know how embarrassing that is? I’m seen as just another fangirl by most of them! Only some of them take in the fact that I’m in his class so I “have to know better than the other girls.,”” Marinette took a moment, clearly holding back a sigh. “It’s-it’s, it feels degrading in some ways…”
Alya blinked at Marinette, where was this coming from? Marinette did overthink sometimes but it’s not like it hit her too hard. Did it?
Marinette sighed, “Not to mention I’m dating Luka, and he’s dating Kagami. Whom I am now friends with. It’s not fair to either of them if I keep harboring my feelings for Adrien like this. Luka deserves better than that, and it feels like I’m slapping Juleka in the face mooning over Adrien while dating her twin.”
Juleka puts a comforting hand on Marinette’s shoulder and murmurs something to her that Alya can’t hear. Alya looked down at her sandwich, she hadn’t really thought about that. She frowned and looked up at Marinette, “But are you sure you'll be fine spending a week with him in New York?”
Marinette gave her a confused look, and so did some of the other girls. Do they not get it? Sure Marinette was moving on from Adrien, but she still looked at him as if he was the prettiest star in the sky. Alya sighed, “You know forget I said anything. I’m sorry.”
Alya slumped against her seat, as Marinette finished her bite of noodles. Marinette stared at her food before she gasped and put her face in her hands. Alya looked at her, maybe she realized that she wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“I have to convince his dad,” Marinette groaned as she dragged her hands down her face. Alya chuckled at the girl, “Hey don’t worry, like we said we’ll come with and make a scene if we have to.”
Marinette looked at Alya gratefully, “Thanks.”
Kagami frowned under her helmet. Something was wrong with Adrien, he wasn’t giving his best performance during practice. She took a deep breath before rounding the corner, Adrien sat on a bench mopping. Kagami couldn’t help the small smile that came on her face, he was always cute when he pouted.
Kagami took a seat next to him, “What is bothering you, Adrien?”
“All of my friends are going to New York after the gaming tournament. I wish I could go with them, Marinette’s going to try and get Father to allow me to go but I don’t think he will.” Adrien’s shoulders sagged down more, if that was even possible.
Kagami took her helmet off, “Well considering that Marinette has convinced my mother to allow me to have more outings with her and dates with you, I have no doubt you will end up on that trip. If not however I will be sad that you don’t get to go with your friends but will be happy that we get more time together.”
Kagami gave a kiss on the cheek, “I will see you for our date tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow Kagami,” Adrien reached where Kagami kissed his cheek and sighed.
☾•☽
Marinette’s insides were on the verge of exploding, not like a bloated balloon but more like an over-filling with water one.
There was no way this was going to work, this was Gabriel Agreste , the biggest fashion designer in this corner of the world. This man once he had decided something was not easily swayed. While Marinette still admired his work she had grown to dislike him as a person overall, she respected him as an adult and man of fashion. Just his treatment of Adrien had scrubbed off that feeling of whoa when she had been around him.
But the fear of the man was something that would probably never fade.
Gabriel was a very influential man, mostly in sections of the world as he wasn’t Style Queen level. That didn’t mean he couldn’t ruin her life, he could blacklist her and then she would never be a fashion designer. But if he was feeling super angry or petty he might blacklist her from a number of things and the only thing she’ll be able to do is bake and she’d never have a life of her own.
Yes, she loved the bakery and baking in general but she didn’t want any sort of career or her livelihood depending on it. She wanted to create things that people will wear not eat! It’s not it was a bad thing! It’s just that that wasn’t-
“Mars!” Alya shook Marinette by the shoulders, “Breath, you’re spiraling again. Just breathe, you don’t have to do this. One of us-”
“No, I promised I would. I’ll do it, I can do it,” Marinette protested and help herself up. With more confidence than she felt she walked around the corner to where some of her friends were already gathered.
“Lila says she can’t make it 'cause she already told a homeless shelter she would volunteer this morning,” Myléne explained to Rose. Marinette bit her tongue, today was about helping Adrien not exposing Lila.
“Oh that’s so sweet of her,” Rose squealed. Marinette took a deep breath passing them as she walked to the doorbell. Because honestly, as if that pig would go within 10 meters of a shelter of any kind. Breathe Marinette , Marinette reminded herself.
“Is everyone ready?” Alya asked. Everyone gave nods and yeses in response, Alya turned to Marinette with a wide smile, “Whenever you’re ready girl.”
Marinette nodded and took one last deep breath to center herself, I got this .
She pressed the doorbell, the movable camera popped out and went in her face. She almost fell down but Alya and Nino helped steady her. Marinette smiled nervously at the camera, “Hel-hello! I am Marinette, one of Adrien’s friends from school, I have come with other friends to speak to M. Agreste abo-bout Adrien.”
The camera didn’t do anything or make a sound for a moment, Marinette looked over at her friends who all nodded their heads with reassuring smiles. Alya squeezed her hand and smiled as if saying everything would be just fine.
“Only Mlle. Marinette Dupain-Cheng may enter, the rest must stay outside,” Natalie’s voice came through finally. It made many of the students jump. The gate opened and the camera stayed out watching all of the students carefully.
Marinette took a shaky breath, Nino pulled her in a side hug and gave a squeeze, “It’s alright, you don’t have to. You can request one of us to come with dude. Dudette, I mean.”
Marinette smiled at Nino, “No she said just me. I don’t want to upset M. Agreste more than I probably already have with coming unexpectedly to his house.”
Nino frowned at the girl and opened his mouth to say something but Marinette pulled away and walked past the gates. The gates closed as she made her way to the front door. Once the gate was secured the camera went away, leaving the Dupont students to wait outside.
Marinette raised her hand to knock only for Natalie to open the door, “Oh. Uh, I mean thank you Mme. Sancoeuris.”
“M. Agreste is coming out to hear you out here,” Natalie nodded her head before closing the door behind Marinette. Marinette held back a frown, that’s weird. He won’t even offer his guest to sit down to speak with him, although he’s Gabriel Agreste he probably has things to do. Or at least he claims to Adrien that, Marinette fought to not roll her eyes at the thought.
A great man in the fashion industry but a terrible father.
Not long did Marinette have to wait for Gabriel Agreste came down the stairs, Dramatic much . Marinette smiled politely, “Hello M. Agreste. Thank you for seeing me.”
“You wanted to talk to me about my son?” Marinette had to appreciate that he got to the point at least, but it was very rude regardless.
“Yes, you-your son a very hard worker. He complies to your schedule for all of his activities even with the threat of Akumas. Also he stays as top of the class.”
“Yes I am aware of my son’s activities and how well he performs,” Gabriel interrupted. Marinette almost huffed but kept her composure. She felt Tikki sag in her bag with annoyance.
“Well, we have found out that our class has won the contest to participate in French-American week exchange. This year French students get to go to America for the week-long visit.” Marinette explained.
“I know how it works Mlle. Dupain-Cheng. Please get to the point.” Gabriel seemed to look down on her more. Marinette stopped herself from shuffling or shifting her weight, she would not show him just how uncomfortable she was. No siree.
“Well, Adrien works hard and does everything you do and expect of him. That includes helping in projects like our video for the competition, he deserves to join us on the trip to America. It would be beneficial for him to experience more of the world. It could help him in the future, especially if you plan for him to take over your company.” Marinette took a breath trying not to stim in any way as Gabriel became thoughtful at her words, or at least appeared to be. “He can practice his English along with the rest of the class, also the entire point of this exchange is about friendship. Something your son values just as much as he values you as his father.”
Even though you’re a control freak and treat him terribly , Marinette kept to herself.
“He tries to do everything you ask while also being the best friend he can be and an amazing boyfriend to Kagami. He respects everyone and tries his best in everything, and he did in our video project for this contest even though he believed you wouldn’t let him go and that’s what makes his friendship with us so precious. And since your son is our friend that means he needs to come with us to New York.”
Gabriel looked away from Marinette not really looking or seeing anything for a moment. His face became a frown and Marinette fought down the urge to start panicking, because if she started spiraling then she wouldn’t hear what he had to say and then he could change his mind if he said yes and-
Tikki pushed against her leg from her bag, Marinette took a deep breath. Thank Kwami for Tikki, if she didn’t have her she would truly be a mess.
“And our friends don’t intend to leave without knowing we tried everything for Adrien to join us in New York,” Marinette added holding herself up. Gabriel looked at her with a trained and analytical eye, What is it with the rich having analytical eyes? Tomoe even has one and she’s blind!
Marinette swallowed as she tried to keep her knees from locking, she did not need to pass out in front of M. Agreste out of anyone.
“You’re the one who won my hat contest, no?” Gabriel asked after a moment of silently staring her down.
“Um, yes,” Marinette replied, confusion painted clearly on her face. What did this have to do with Adrien going to New York?
Gabriel nodded to himself, “And you somehow got Audrey to recognize you along with remembering your name. You’ve made a name for yourself with many people I work with and for.” Gabriel squinted at her.
“Yes,” Marinette was starting to become more anxious than she was a few moments ago.
“And by some means, you’ve made Tomoe Tsurgi, the most stubborn woman I know with Audrey to follow, listen to you.” He raised an eyebrow at her but didn’t wait for her to confirm, “You have quite the way with words as you do with fashion.”
Okay, this was getting strange, and Marinette was as weird as they come.
“What does this have to do with Adrien going to New York or not?” Marinette decided to risk it and jump right to the question. Gabriel’s eyebrows rose as he watched Marinette, and smiled.
“You are a hard worker, just as much as my son tries. You are an excellent example for my son, I have decided that he may join you and your class to go to New York for that week,” Gabriel said. Marinette almost gasped but needed to keep her composure. She cleared her throat, “You mean it?”
“Of course, I am a man of my word. But please don’t tell Adrien, I would like to tell him myself.”
Marinette felt her chest explode, but in a good way. She felt warm, proud that she had done what she promised Adrien. Marinette felt a lot of tension in her body release, she hadn’t even noticed how tense she had gotten.
“Of-of course! I will tell my friends not to say anything to him!” Marinette promised.
“I appreciate that Mlle. Dupain-Cheng,” Gabriel said. “Now you may you leave? I have work to attend to.”
There was just a slight cold edge in his wording but he was still overall warm. Well as warm as Gabriel Agreste could be.
“Yes, thank you for listening to me M. Agreste,” Marinette said turning to the door, Natalie was somehow already there.
“Thank you for showing your concern for my son,” Gabriel said as he said his farewells to the girl. Marinette fought to jump and twirl all the way to the gate, but once she was out her friends gathered around her waiting for her to give their verdict.
Marinette smiled at her friends, “M. Agreste says he would like to tell Adrien himself tonight, but Adrien gets to come to New York.”
Her friends cheered around her, Alya picked up Marinette and spun her around. Marinette wasn’t even on the ground for five seconds before Kim picked her up and started chanting “Marinette” which then some of her friends joined in. Marinette became red from mostly embarrassment.
“Kim put her down! You’re obviously making her uncomfortable,” Nino whacked Kim’s abdomen, with a deep frown.
“Oh I’m sorry Marinette,” Kim laughed.
“It, uh alright,” Marinette nervously laughed before taking a step back. Nino kept frowning at Kim, “Nino it’s alright. Really.”
Nino huffed before Myléne piggybacking Rose ran around them, causing everyone to laugh as they ran down the sidewalk.
Alya walked up to Nino as Marinette talked to Alix, “What was that about?”
“Nothing,” Nino grumbled. “Just Kim being unaware Kim.”
Nino took a deep breath before walking up to Ivan and Max and talking to them. Alya really wished someone would just be straight with her about some things. Alya sighed before Sabrina tapped her shoulder, “Do you want to get uh- get some lunch with the others?”
Alya smiled, she didn’t like how Chloé seemed to up and abandon the redhead, but Sabrina had started hanging out with them. At first, she was trying to get them to let her do things for them; Marinette, Rose, and Myléne had taken it upon themselves to explain how that wasn’t healthy. She stopped asking by the end of this week. She had mopped during the end of last week until she started talking with others in the class earlier this week.
She still mopped and tried to do things and work for them but she had learned to stop asking about doing their homework for them quickly.
“Yeah of course Sabrina. Hey guys! Who wants to get lunch with Sabrina?” Alya called out, they got many positive responses.
“Awesome,” Sabrina beamed.
Marinette twirled down the street, “I’m going to New York with all my friends!”
Her voice in a sing-songy way, she spun down some people giving her weird looks but she didn’t care.
“I’m going to New York with Adrien,” she beamed to no one but herself. She felt Tikki push her leg from her bag, Marinette opened it to Tikki frowning at her.
“As friends of course, seriously Tikki I am getting over him,” Marinette said with a sad frown. Tikki raised her eyebrows, or well they would have been.
“I am! Just two friends, going to New York, to have fun away from Akuma and duties.” Marinette said nodding at her bag. Tikki sighed, “Whatever you say Marinette, but what about Paris?”
“Oh, Tikki. You should know I have a plan for everything nowadays,” Marinette winked at her Kwami. Not noticing someone giving her a weird look from across the street as she did so.
Adrien hadn’t expected that after practicing his piano to eat dinner that his father would be actually joining him. Natalie didn’t tell him he was scheduled to eat with him this evening. Adrien couldn’t help but be nervous, did he do something wrong? Was he not doing well enough?
Adrien took his seat, “Hello Father.”
Gabriel nodded to his son, “Hello Adrien.”
He did not take his eyes off his tablet. Adrien took to eating as he waited for his father to say or do…well anything. This went on for a while Adrien eating in silence, it wasn’t exactly awkward or uncomfortable, but it wasn’t a comfortable silence either.
Finally, his father set the tablet down and looked at Adrien, “Your friends visited today.”
Adrien didn’t know whether to be happy or scared, but his body felt cold. His leg which was already moving nervously went a little faster.
“Yeah?” Adrien’s voice had a little crack to it, he wanted to fall out of his chair and curl into a ball now.
“Yes, from your class. I talked to your friend, Marinette Dupain-Cheng.” Gabriel went on. Adrien looked up at his father, Marinette actually talked to father? “She enlightened me about that trip to New York and your hard work. She is quite the talented and extraordinary girl.”
“Yes, Marinette is amazing,” Adrien smiled feeling a bit calmer. This seemed to be going well.
“Yes she is, has many accomplishments under her belt, and she’s only fifteen,” Gabriel chuckled as he took a bite. “Well, I spoke to her today, as I said and she made me rethink my initial decision. I have decided to let you join your friends on this trip to New York.”
Adrien’s eyes widened, “You mean it? I get to join my friends?”
Gabriel nodded, “Marinette made a good point, that this would be beneficial for you to practice your English with your classmates and it will be a good experience for you. If you are to run my company real-world experience is needed in any capacity. This does not mean that you get to slack on your work though.”
“Of course Father! Thank you, Father! I promise I will keep up with my work,” Adrien smiled and nodded.
“Don’t thank me, it is your friends you should thank,” was all he said before getting up and grabbing his tablet. “Now I have some work to finish up before I rest, finish your food and rest well.”
“Yes father,” Adrien nodded. Adrien was left to finish his food before heading to his room. Plagg flew out, “This is amazing. The cheeses of New York all in the new addition of Gentlemen's Cheese !”
Plagg picked up the magazine flipping through saying the names, “Blue Marble Jack, Cougar Gold, the legendary Monterrey…” Plagg was just about at the point of drooling, “All those wonderful American cheeses are just waiting for us to taste them!”
“Some of those actually sound like they would taste good,” Adrien laughed flopping onto his bed. He gave a sigh of contentment, he gets to go to New York. His friends made sure of it, now he couldn’t mess it up. Adrien just had to keep doing good and everything would be just fine, and then he would be in New York with his friends!
“Oh,” Adrien shot up. “I need to go talk to Ladybug about me not being here after next week. I hope she isn’t upset…”
“Oh I’m sure pigtails will understand, all the bugs usually are,” Plagg said as he ate a piece of Camembert. “You have nothing to worry about. Just tell her can’t be in Paris for that week.”
“But-”
“Hey! No buts, everything will work out. Just talk to her kid,” Plagg said flipping a page of his magazine.
“Yeah you’re right! Plagg Claws Out!”
“I wasn’t done reading,” Plagg whined as he got sucked into the ring. Chat Noir rolled his eyes, Plagg was always looking at those things. It’s not like he missed anything in them.
Chat Noir turned off the lights before heading out from his window. Oh that feeling never changed, that’s for sure.
