finally delivering on the princess tutu headshots i promised... love these dysfunctional teens 🩰💖💕

LOTS of notes about headcanons/design choices under the cut! like. a lot. dont say i didnt warn you

starting with my specialest guy fakir:

i had a suuuper clear vision for fakir, and i couldnt be happier with how he turned out, he looks exactly how i imagine him! trying to translate his Bird-Shaped Hair into my style gave me SERIOUS homestuck flashbacks. my affinity for knights with Problems knows no bounds...

adding the hyperpigmentation around his eyes and his acne scars is what really solidified this for me-- i put those in and was like oh!!! there you are!!! my boy!!! and you can tell because i gave him acne scars + thick eyebrows that he IS my boy... there are very clear trends among my headcanons for my faves lol. big noses, thick eyebrows, skin imperfections, heavy eyebags, long dark hair... and fakir truly has it all 😤 he is so Ideal Character Design to me

i think fakir is actually pretty self-conscious about his appearance tho! we see characters like pike and lilie say hes handsome to ahiru, but i dont know how often he actually hears that? and im sure its hard not to compare himself to mytho, who is straight out of a fairy tale; being a regular teenager dealing with regular teen body stuff is hard enough without your roommate being a magically beautiful eternally youthful storybook hero. i think he probably internalises more that people see him as scary and angry, and that the girls who do have crushes on him always frame it in contrast to mytho, who is Good and Kind and Handsome, implying (or sometimes outright stating!) that fakir is Bad and Mean and... Well...

fakir is very sensitive but quiet about it, so i think its a very private point of self-consciousness. i think he puts a lot of semi-secret effort into his appearance; canonically he has a lot of very funny and clearly customised clothing, and he chooses to keep his hair long and in a very particular style (i have a whole breakdown in my mind of how he achieves that style and it involves a surprising amount of pins and an unsurprising fuckton of teasing. i think his hair is a little fried from heat damage!), and i think that probably extends to other things, too, like manicuring his eyebrows and doing a lot of very Teenage Skincare that doesnt actually help his acne much lol. i think he probably has a lot of self-injurious habits and BFRBs like skin picking and chewing, mostly at his acne and around his nails (both of which he hates, because he knows he shouldnt but does it anyway). i think if he does it enough that theres noticeable evidence it feels, like, world-ending for him, ESPECIALLY if anyone asks what happened lol. do not perceive him except in the very specific ways and contexts he approves of THANKS

on to the narratives favorite princess, mytho:

again, i had a pretty clear idea of the vibe i wanted mytho to have going into this-- i want him to have, like, extreme prince charming vibes, very Classically Handsome without necessarily being 'conventional.' i thought a lot about 'the happy prince' story while i was working on this, and really wanted him to look like a cross between how the prince statue looks in my head and a porcelain doll. and also a cross between jonny brown and brigitte bardot? lots of very direct influences for him lol. so! lots of gold tones, gemmy eye color, cute little tooth gap, quivering wide-eyed thousand-yard-stare doe eyes and big ol dolly anime lashes, which were the very last thing i added because i was NERVOUS about pulling those off lol. they turned out cute tho! ive only done a handful of pieces for this series and i can already tell princess tutu is gonna make me up my lash drawing game considerably, these kids all look like they blink and cause a hurricane from the gale force wind of their falsies

also wait i lied the very last thing i did was add his freckles/beauty marks because he needed that little extra oomph and those were It. i think he probably has some on his hands/wrists too 💕

i was a little unsure if my idea for his hair would translate with this flat-color approach but im pretty happy with it! its supposed to be afrotextured hair (somewhere between 3b and 4c i think? wide range of potential i knowww but im still kind of hammering out my headcanons okay, this is exploratory lol) thats been rolled and finger-styled into his little feather shapes. i think loose, chunky twists would be another fun way to interpret his hair and twists are one of my fave styles to draw do i might draw him like that at some point too...

i guess fakir is the one who styles his hair for him before mytho gets his heart back? i imagine fakir is pretty meticulous about maintaining mythos health and appearance, even at the worst stages of their relationship. i think itd be hard for fakir to frame the way he treats mytho as For Mythos Sake if he wasnt doing some level of actually beneficial care for him, so being really fastidious about things like mythos diet and sleep hygiene and hair care and such gives fakir an outlet for his 'you just have to do what i tell you' thing that helps him convince himself it really is helping, no really, hes doing this for mythos benefit and he just has to be strict with him because mytho doesnt UNDERSTAND he needs PROTECTING and fakir is the ONLY ONE who can do it so mytho HAS to let him because if he doesnt then why does fakir even EXIST, if he cant manage this then what is he good for, and--

yknow. the usual complexes. and their relationship is so complex!!! but also so simple, but like. in a good way. fakirs behavior is complicated but his motivation regarding mytho is SO straightforward which makes that downward spiral into harm really easy to map out... i wont go much into that in this post since this is about visual/appearance-related headcanons but just. augh. i love this show and i love these characters!!! and i hope its apparent in my work that i do love them so <3

im hoping to do a set of these for the girls next!!! i have some other stuff to finish first but hopefully... Soon... Some Birds...

"Who are you texting while giggling like a pixie" "Ann" "Ann? You only-" your friend stares at your screen to various I love you texts between both of you with you just about to finish typing out plans for a date. "YOURE DATING TAKAMAKI?!" "were in a library"

Even after a week of knowing he still can't wrap his head around it. YOU?! TAKAMAKI?! And then it kinda all made sense the more he thought about it. The rest of the school? Nah they just wanted something to complain about. "You're not even that popular how could she wanna date you?" "Have you seen how rude the popular kids are" you yawn waiting for the three people to finish speaking only slightly waking up to hear a familiar voice saying something along the lines of "Leave em alone!" "But Takamaki they're so average what do they have that I dont!" "A life that's what" she huffs linking arms with you and dragging you off with her "what nerve" "Relax I wanna fill out my bingo sheet for how many times they said that"

Surprisingly people didn't really come by as you thought they would only just kinda theorized. Surprisingly all you had to do was just show off your talents and then they just kinda understood why. "Hey y/n do you mind helping me with this" you lean over them looking at their screen. Ann would have considered that kid the luckiest person alive you carefully instructing them with such a gentle look in your eyes. Most rumors kind of cleared up after that.

She's quite protective of you out and about as soon as someone asks what you're doing on set she's saying it bluntly "we have a date after this" wide eyed stares go your way before they get back to the shoot. They never got to ask because of Ann shooting glares at them.

It was dumb when Ann pointed it out but whenever youd just stop by to eat somewhere there would be people staring at her and then at you and then back at her. It got to the point youd stare back and you two would just make a game to see who could stare back at the most people

If they ever did get under your skin shed be pissed! But you matter more than those guys. She's always ready to comfort you. "So what? I'm with you because of how you are and how you don't just see me as an object" she pulls you in for a hug. "I'll make sure of it they quit talking behind your back" "I'm more worried for you Ann" she sighs putting a kiss to your forehead. "It's fine just a glare and they shut up real quick orr" she searches for a small bracelet. "Lets just make it more.." she ties it around your wrist with one already around hers. "Perfect! Everyone's gonna know now" getting you to giggle while crying is something she loves doing, she's gonna keep matching with you now just to show you off to people to flex who she's with.

You shouldn't piss off the girl with the axe is something that rings true. As soon as someone asks she grabs your waist firmly with something a bit passive aggressive or "Why they're just such a good cook how could I ever pass them up" "so you have them around only to cook? There's way better butlers-" "then perhaps you've never experienced what it's like being with someone that you didn't have to pay off" she huffs taking off with you.

Very close to you at all times when you're together she's hearing you breath. "You're so warm" "you sure the sun's not getting to you?" "Nope" all cuddled up to you while your walking somewhere thank god the tablod articles didn't catch clear shots of you two.

Okumura can't say anything about your relationships but the guy she was forced to marry by him does. Just because the guys dead dosent mean you can just take his wife! He's fuming, unfortunately he can't really do anything about it. "HOW DARE A COMMONER EVEN TRY TO MARRY MY WIFE" "sir without okumura I'm afraid we can't do anything about it" "NON-" and then the convent security cam footage of you looking straight at the camera as if knowing hes talking about you, with narrow eyes and a clearly annoyed look. "Yea- you know let's just find another ya know!"

You fully expect people to come for your status whenever Harus involved, unfortunately for her want for blood, you're pretty fine at public speaking yourself. "Why a civilian dating a rich girl is outragous" "Why it's ironic for you to say such a thing when as soon as Okumura fell you swarmed my poor lover like flies trying to make alliances, really seems like I'm the only one around her without some sort of motive" the person who said that did go whinning to Haru only to be met with a totally not very passive aggressive letter.

shop keepers that know her always flip when they know youre dating. One of their sons did an actual flip too was incredible. But theyre always asking how you two met, sometimes they asked what you like about eatchother and you felt as if Haru was ready to pull out a shopping list over this. "maybe we shouldnt" "no i insist i specialize in these questions" this is also why you usually have flowers in your room or accessories that remind you if her that she totally didn't sneak on while you weren't looking.

They almost never get under your skin, but if they do strike a cord, she'll know. She's already brought a blanket you like as well as snacks. "They're quite cruel because of status" she wrapped the blanket around you "but status is all they have" she scoots closer to you, hugging you. "Please don't worry about it too much if you want we can think of ways to insult them" her smile too warm for that sentence, you embrace her tightly "that sounds fun" "it's great"

9: worst part of canon wc: the sheer amount of characters and how none of them have personalities & the intense focus on thunderclan are the two worst things for me . there are so many characters that COULD have really interesting personalities an COULD have really interesting stories and COULD be from different clans and yet the erins just!!!!!!!!!! dont care!!!!!!!! and i hate it!!!!!!!!!! one piece: the whitewashing of a bunch of different characters in the anime and the.... sexification (?) of nami and robin. robin and usuopp used to have REALLY COOL DARK SKIN and now they are AS PALE AS SNOW its awful. and with nami and robin. MANNNNN nami used to be so cool with her short hair & loooooooved robins mysteriousness and vague androgyny and !!! then. they got rid of it. and now both of them are just sexy girls with the blandest designs ever and i am so upset about it 10: worst part of fanon wc: the intense obsession's with tpb/tnp/po3 and oots. everyone and their mom has read those four arcs and NOBODY ON THIS PLANET HAS READ DOTC/AVOS/TBC/ASC . this might not Sound that bad the earlier books are VERY GOOD i will admit but EVERYWHERE i look there's stuff for lionblaze & hollyleaf & jayfeather & leafpool & squilf & firestar & sandstorm & dovewing & ivepool and like. i love a lot of these characters but like!!! guess what guys!!! there's cats like tree & rootspring & bristlefrost & flipclaw & shadowsight & lightleap & thunderstar & jagged peak & turtle tail & bumble & probably a bunch of other characters that are just as cool and interesting!!!! and theres little to nothing about ANY of them!!! plus all of the SEs and novellas!!! i have NEVER heard ANYONE talk about skyclans destiny or firestars quest or ravenpaws farewell and it SUCKS!!! yall need to read more of these books i swear!!! i know that avos wasn't like the greatest thing ever which is why i assume a lot of people dropped the books but tbc and asc (so far) have been!!! pretty cool!!! quit hiding in the past of nostalgia and childhood memories and learn to accept the future !

haii i hope i could ask for a matchup :] genshin/hsr male!

im an afab female, chinese around 163-164 cm in height & i am an adult (under 25). im not sure if my looks matter but i have one dimple on my right cheek and one to the left side of my bottom lip, and i have very light skin. long dark brown hair (butterfly cut with bangs/fringe) and brown eyes. im quite thin but most of my weight goes to my thighs.

i like to learn instruments, and im the best at violin from all the instruments ive learned. i also like to learn new languages (im fluent in 3), and im decently good at my studies. despite that, i lack a massive amount of sleep because of exams ruining my sleep schedule (i end up sleeping at 11 pm and waking up at 2 am now). i dont like going outside often and crowds really take up my energy & make me anxious if im alone.

i tend to be super physically affectionate with my friends, and i have random habits of waving with both hands when im excited, and also bowing too much to elders or professors even though they keep on telling me to not do it so much 😭

people tend to tell me that i can be super quiet, but super sweet and tend to do big gestures that i think are very little and the bare minimum. i like to experiment! making new baking recipes and stuff, i love to bake.

im quite a people pleaser, and i also feel guilty when i receive gifts from people. im also mentally sensitive, and tend to cry easily (crying while i hug teachers on teacher’s day, seeing a dog walk alone in the streets, etc) and take words to heart unless people give me constant reassurance.

i have a soft spot for animals, they’re my #1 weakness and i always have a pack of treats in my bag whenever i go out just incase i meet some animals on the way to university.

my love language for giving is physical touch, quality time and words of affirmation, for receiving i love physical touch, acts of service and quality time!

i also like to cosplay ^^ even when i dont like crowds or being known, cosplaying is kind of like a little escape for me. i also like to play games on my free time, and i sometimes write my own music.

wandering the halls was not unusual to you, practically an everynight occurence by now. being a prefect, they let you get away with it.

having practically been adopted by minevera and poppy— they understood your trouble with sleeping. they understood why, and they understood aimless walking helped.

they'd always stood in and gave a good word, dumbledore couldn't have been bothered to punish you anywho. some nights you'd even wonder drunkly, mumbling to yourself as you let students slip passed you without punishment.

you had a name to uphold— but you far from respected or supported your family. one of blood supremacy and hypocricy, unfortunately the children of families like yours were forced to adult more than those of age.

you were just like that, so much weight on your shoulders that you far from bothered to let your thoughts hurt you. you'd become responsible for ignoring them.

similarly, you'd become familiar with sirius black through this similar ideaology. familiar. you were far from 'friends', though people with similar stories, two who found comfort in one another from afar.

this led you to be familiar with all the marauders, though you'd far from a mustered a word to any of them— they knew you were on their team, when needed. at any word you'd betray your dreaded house.

i should go to sleep, its tuesday but i can't stop— thinking of your skin

there was one exception to your marauders rule, you had spoken to one. more than spoken, you'd held dear on many occasions. whom cared to much fot everyone around him.

you'd been practically forced to a gryffindor party— sirius had insisted on you recieving an invitation, though he was not the messenger.

he'd begged regulus to offer you the invite, even though he hadn't invited his younger brother. eventually, regulus gave in. you felt obligated to go, with how much trouble he went through to get you there, how could you refuse?

however, no one seemed interested in you being there. weird looks from many angles, strange glances your way. with the exception of one individual.

james fleamont potter.

james had practically thrown himself at you, a million questions filling the air before you could even shake his hand. regardless, you answered every question, and he listened to every answer.

when he'd realized you came alone— he vowed to spend the night by your side. introducing you here and there, inviting you to random drinking games.

and at some point something had clicked in the both of you.

you could hardly remember, but it was spin the bottle— or perhaps seven minutes in heaven? it didn't matter what game it was, you just remember you'd kissed and sparks flew.

you were both so drunk you didn't know if james remembered anything either, you just remember him. they way he smelled, the way he smiled at everthing you said, the way he looked at you.

he treated you like the world revolved around you, he was the earth circling around you. but it only lasted that night, because when he'd found you the next day he'd lost the courage to speak to you.

you still had your reputation— more than half the school still saw you as an enemy. you were a cruel and feelingless person to them. so how could james fleamont potter ever justify you wanting to be with him?

i've been known to be a hopeless, no good, nobody. and they're right.

you could sense why he didn't come back, though you'd assigned a much different explaination than he.

you were a bad look on his reputation, an outstanding quidditch player. an outstanding gryffindor, brave and caring. the real question was never why would you want to be with him, but rather why could he want to be with you.

not that it mattered anymore.

you knew you were a hopeless case— sirius had changed, he'd fix his side and found a way out. but you hadn't, and likely you never would.

you had no friends, you spent no time partying, with the exception of sirius' one invitation. you were a nobody. scary to anyone who hadn't heard sirius' tales of you, worthless to anyone in your own house.

you somehow rubbed everyone around you the wrong way— a bloodtraitor to your family, a blood supremesist to people whom you wanted to defend, not enough to all your slytherin peers.

it made sense that he never came back. he must've been ashamed to some extent, he was so much more than you'd ever be.

i know your eyes can see right through me. but believe me, it's my pleasure.

tonight went differently for you, your restlessness brought you near the gryffindor tower.

deep down something within you begged for you to sneak your way in and find james. but your mind would never let you, there was no chance you'd ever have the bravery to do so.

in all ways, you knew even if you had he'd understand too much. he knew your every feeling, even if you kept it hidden.

after one night of gestures you knew he was your perfect second half, he knew you more than you knew yourself. and oddly enough, you returned that.

you knew he drained himself, he was too compassionate for his own good. you knew he could never love you publically because no one knew you.

no one knew your parents hated you, no one knew it was because you'd defended muggleborn peers, no one knew you had plans of running away.

no one knew you'd never get that mark, that you'd never defend it's honor. but he did, and that's why you both stood at a crossroads.

he had a reputation too.

one that no one saw through, everyone believed they knew him. he could do no wrong, and too anyone you two were polar opposites. but too eachother you were practically the same.

you cared too much, just like him. you drained yourself with worry, and he knew how much it'd taken you to get over the fact you'd never be the perfect kid.

you'd never be what your parents wanted, you'd never be cherished like him. unless it was by him.

and something inside you found it comforting, the idea for once you couldn't lie. because he'd never fall for it.

he was the same as you, and he knew you didn't need fixing. you weren't broken, and neither was he. flawed, possibly. and that was the most comforting thing about him.

he didn't need to work for you, and you didn't need to work for him.

i miss the sea, i miss it's sandy beaches, salty breeze. and it reminds me of you.

because it's so sweet, you're so sweet, you're so sweet.

knocking on your head, you'd come to the conclusion you needed to leave. find your way back to your room, and move on.

in a way you felt hollow for having a heart, as if your brain could only be seen as brilliant if your heart stayed cold. because your heart led you to a common room of people who hated you— whilst your brain begged you to forget and regret.

but once again he showed how similar you two were. as if he'd known you'd he at there, he appeared at the portrait. he looked sleepless, suprised that you were there, yet also as if he'd been expecting you.

"y/n?"

he looked like a painting to you, groggily rubbing his eyes, voice the same as always. trying to illude to the idea he'd been sleeping— though you saw right through him.

"james.."

"what're you doing here?" he stepped out, closing the painting behind him.

you took a deep breath, weighing your head and your heart— as if it mattered. he saw right through you, even if you lied right to his face.

"did you need something..?"

"you."

his eyes widened only slightly, he knew why you were there but the clarity was almost frightening. he couldn't lie to himself anymore, because you'd come clean to his face.

"i know i disappeared im sorry, i know you've got a reputation, i know.. i just—" you sighed, fumbling with your words, "nobody knows me like you james, and all it took was a day for you to see me. i mean.. i missed you. us? its cheesey i know but.."

"one moment."

you watched him disappear into the common room, leaving you with your thoughts. your head was spinning, there were butterflies hitting every wall of your stomach, had it been too much for him? had you read him wrong?

he came out a moment later, a jacket wrapped around his shoulders, wand in hand. he stood with a second coat in his other hand, one which he held out to you.

you took it, pulling it on— even if you didn't know his plans, then he held his now free hand out, you took it.

"how about a walk?" he gave you a smile, pulling you along.

you two indulged in a comfortable silence, you just enjoyed holding his hand. even if you weren't sure it'd happen again.

i dont care how you want me to live my life, as long as i'm in yours.

he didn't lead you anywhere in particular, leaving you the silence you needed to grow the courage to open up.

and eventually it worked.

"i'm sorry i came so late, i didn't think you'd even catch me."

"i wasn't sleeping anyway, you can always show up." he looked at you again, raising a brow, "what's wrong, bubs?"

you could feel his thumb rub over your knuckles, it felt endearing. the way he acted, the way he treated you, it was as if the two of you had been dating an eternity. however, you'd never even started dating.

i know how whiney i sound right now, but i can't help myself.

"i think—" you sighed, stopping in your spot, leading him to do the same. you could feel his eyes on you, he couldn't read you anymore, and it scared him. "i think i really like you, james."

"i mean like.. like boyfriends? like i want to get out of my house, finally befriend sirius.. i mean not be whatever the hell everyone thinks i am— i want to be whatever you want i just want to be with you."

he looked at you hesitantly for a moment— he wasn't pondering whether he wanted to be with you or not, rather trying to decide how to proceed.

"i've been waiting to hear that." he turned fully to face you, "but, i like you too. this way, you don't have to be different. just what you want to be."

i know your eyes can see right through me.

hey, I've been looking around but i can't seem to find the answer i want and i know you've played danganronpa so i figured I'd ask you. you've said danganronpa's portrayal of minorites and characterization can be pretty bad, but is it worth it to play with a critical eye? the genre seems right up my alley but i don't want to be like. disrespectful. i just don't know if it's the homestuck death of the author or the harry potter Do Not Touch kind of deal.

so unfortunately. danganronpa v3 is in fact one of my favorite games in the world. which i feel like i dont have to say is complicated considering the fact that they have an islander caricature in the game and my country was literally an island country colonized by japan. it's fucked up and i could write essays about why i think angie yonaga is an incredibly problematic character while most of the fandom seems to have no awareness whatsoever of it. i wish angie wasn't in the game at all but anyway.

danganronpa v3 is still really fucking good in my opinion. i don't think the first game is worth it but the second game also very effectively delivers on its themes of like. perpetuating mental illness in teenagers, how it's exacerbated by academic pressures, and how society often fails in properly addressing those struggles. the third game has a less concrete theme but it's also really good and has a whole bunch of really complex characters. you can write goddamn essays on how nuanced these guys are im not joking and it's the best killing game media i've found so far

as for the racism, homophobia, and transphobia? it's ridiculous. look up the trigger warnings for the second trial in the first game because it's maybe the worst example of violent transphobia i've ever seen in a piece of fiction. like theyre probably outdoing media from the 50s with this shit, im begging you to look up trigger warnings if you get into this game. it goes into some really dark corners and it doesn't do it tastefully either, you will know WAY too much about the author's bigotry if you play danganronpa. any time a darker-skinned character or a character who's coded to be queer or trans pops up just take a step back and look at it with a critical eye. that's all i can really ask as a queer trans poc

what i'm saying is danganronpa has a lot of good and a whole lot of bad too. just know what you're getting into when you start this series. i think it's very possible to get into it without supporting the creators (you can find pirated copies fucking EVERYWHERE and even the newest addition is 8 years old at this point) so i'd say it's fine

Cheyrolls University: Chapter 1

AN: Hi, welcome to my writing blog, happy Valentine’s Day, have a fun little series about a Russian transfer student spiraling into madness over a sexy sea monster

Entry one:

I’m not sure how to explain this. I’m not sure if I even can explain this. But I’ll try.

First, I am Adrik Kotik. At least, that’s what it says on my student ID. Most of my legal documents still use my mother’s last name for me. I much prefer Kotik though; I do not associate myself with that woman anymore. I am 23 and am studying to be a geologist in America, specifically Montana. I’m keeping this journel to help me practice my English and gauge my progress in it by the end of the year. I will attempt to write in it every day.

I arrived at Cheyroll’s University of Montana this morning, and learned that my classes do not start for another week. That was completely fine with me, as I still needed to explore the campus and get moved into my temporary home. The people at the desk were very nice and did their best to help me understand what they were talking about. In hindsight, I think some of them were trying to put me down, but I didn’t let it bother me at the time. I had filled most of this out online back during the summer. I was put in room 4-E, which is on the fifth floor. The woman helping me prepare looked scared when I told her this, and told me, in her own words that, “Your roommate is notorius(?) for eating everyone we try to put with him. I dont know why they keep trying to put people with him. Be careful.”

I pushed this off as rumors at first. I have had to deal with several rumors like this about myself back in highschool as well. I went up the stairs to the fourth floor with plans to make a good first impression. He was probably just shy, and I am sure that living with someone who struggles with their English would not help his situation. Since I had learned he clearly enjoys eating enough for rumors to be spread, I decided to take him out for breakfast and pay. I know now that American breakfast is so much worse than Russian breakfast, but at the time I believed it was a good idea. He did not seem upset with it though so I think that was a success.

I am getting ahead of myself though. When I met my roommate, I should mention his name is Mango, he was much taller than me (and I am already 203 centimeters, so I have never met someone taller than myself. He must be well over 300 centimeters). He was a very big man, but was also very clearly not a human. He has grey scaley skin, a tail, legs like a lizard, yellow eyes, and tentacles as his hair. He looked as if I had just woken him up, which I do not blame him for being upset with me about, especially since he apparently slept shirtless. At the mere sight of him I paniced and spilled my intentions to him. I did not think he got any of it at first so I went to repeat myself, but he told me to shut up because he was thinking about it. I think I only realized that those likely were not rumors at this point. He did say yes, thankfully, however he did grab me by my collar to throw me onto his couch while he got ready which frightened me.

I did get to see some of his interests at this time though. Apparently Mango is quite the fan of retro gaming as I saw an old Nintendo 64 console under the TV and at least 4 different controllers for it. There were a few posters for bands I did not recognize, but I assume he is a fan of. The most confusing thing I saw though was that the second room was almost completely converted into a storage room. Mango got really defensive once he noticed I’d seen the storage room, so I immediately faked ignorance and asked if we were sharing a room. He just laughed and told me that most of his roommates don't last long.

This campus seems to be in its own little town, so we didn’t have to go too far to get to the restaurant; however, Mango still pulled me almost the whole way from the room to the restaurant. Thankfully, he didn’t attempt to get in the elevator, likely because the door frame was too small for him to fit. I understand his pain, I too have to duck under most doorframes. I do not think he slowed down until we reached the restaurant. He was really excited for the free breakfast, and he must’ve been hungry as he ate enough to feed eight people. I was able to learn a few things about him too. He has a twin who lives next to us, Luden, and two cousins who live across from us, Angel and Devvie, who are also twins. He didn’t talk much about his other family, but he talked a lot about them. Angel is a really Catholic person, Devvie is also religious but he refused to talk about his beliefs, and Luden is a very reclusive guy but is studying video making. It was pretty funny hearing about how much he liked Devvie and Luden, and when he got to Angel all he said was that she was a bit of a bully, but she meant well. He also knew the person at the counter. Their name was Amber, and when they saw him they looked angry. I do not think they like each other very much.

We went home around noon, and Mango was very insistent on us spending more time together, despite me trying to go and check with the office. We played several videogames and I learned very quickly that he sucks at fighting games. I genuinely thought he was going easy on me until he complained. When it was late, and I tried to leave for the office, he would not let me leave for a moment. He looked down at me for a while. I swear my heart stopped for a solid minute. I was afraid he was going to eat me, before he finally broke eye contact and told me he’d clean out the room for me.

As of right now, I am writing in my new room. I plan to unpack my things tomorrow after orientation. Mango is in his room talking to someone. I am more than a little nervous for the coming days, however I will try to act as kindly as possible to Mango. I hope we can be friends, but I still worry.

bigb was jealous of ren and martyn in double life. he says it, out loud, multiple times. there's so many angles you can go with this and so much potential. there's the treebark angle of course, but there's also how bigb used that to avoid responsibility from having a secret soulmate behind ren's back. tbh ren and bigb's relationship overall is way too ignored for literally being the most interesting soulmate pair

a bit more overall mcyt than life series fandom, but any boundaries discourse, especially shipping for some reason. i have a lot of opinions, but overall i think we should stop fucking talking about "boundaries" so much. boundaries assumes a two-way interaction. and unless i am tagging the cc or putting stuff on their chats/comments or on knowingly frequented tags, what i am posting does not need their permission. does that mean "post everything, have no morals"? fuck no, but that is really the responsibility of each person. if i don't think something should be posted on the internet, i won't do it. if i see people posting that stuff, i will mute/block/report (if needed). you know what we shouldn't do? bring attention to uncomfortable shit to ccs when they are live (aiming this directly to the 2 donos in the last couple of weeks that have asked scar what his boundaries on shipping is, which he either truly doesn't understand or is purposely avoiding to reply). anyways, always causes rancid discourse and at worst full on witch hunts for shit that really doesn't matter

i'm bombarding you with asks i'm so sorry but i have FEELINGS about this game—

i was so adamant about you helping the church folks in Saint Denis because the scene with Arthur and the sister would NEVER have happened if you didn't do the side quest! 😭 instead you get a small scene with Swanson which isn't nearly as impactful imo. literally the way he LOOKS and SOUNDS when he finally says out loud, "i'm afraid" fucking KILLS ME EVERY TIME.

he's so TIRED and EXHAUSTED and he knows Dutch is going to be his death but he loves Dutch and the gang and STILL tries to save him because he has nothing else and doesn't see his own skin as worth saving. but you know who he sees worth it?

John.

the same John he was (rightfully) giving grief to for abandoning the family that Arthur WISHES he still had. the same John who he would needle and bicker with, but in hindsight it resembles the needling from an older brother trying to keep the younger in check. and because he is who he is, it's so vividly clear that Arthur, despite everything, still loved John and still cared about him and his family SO much.

hell, Arthur loved everyone else in that gang more than himself. except for fucking Micah. but because he's so loyal to Dutch he would never do what he wants to do to Micah and played nice with him longer than he ever fucking deserved.

i just. i'm sick. i'm sick in the head. he gave EVERYTHING for the gang and tried to get those he loved safe, no matter what.

IM REALLY GLAD I DID THE QUESTS!! and i really enjoy how these little inconsequential meetings and quests impact arthurs journey as a character. like the sisters quest was simple and nothing too dire at all - but it has such a big impact on arthurs life. him saying in his journal that that conversation unburdened him after everything made me sooooo fucking weepy.

seeing arthur get more perpetually sick and seeing the cloud of death hang over him as the game progresses and him still doing everything he can to save dutch when he is well passed saving. dutch is an unforgiveable piece of shit and i do hatre him for what he did. it was truly truly truly so painful to see arthur continue to give to dutch. partially because he loved him and partially because he wasn't sure what else there is

i had a very long conversation about this w lamb but i really. i really love the relationship there is between john and arthur. i really love that they have a genuine sense of brotherhood between them and that the corruption in the van der linde gang stems so much from this corruption of the family structure. arthur sees john as his brother. like in a serious sense.

both the way he reprimands john and the way he looks out for him. the way he's willing to sacrifice everything and believes that his life will have at least meant something if john makes it out. i think arthur projects a lot onto john in a way that is only experience with older brothers. his hopes and wants and dreams. even his grief. he passes those things onto john and john, like younger brothers often do - take them on. he absorbs so many of arthurs mannerisms and tries hard to make good on what arthur wanted of him.

it was . so painful for me to hear that john heard arthurs voice in his head after everything. arthur loved that gang to pieces even when it didnt do him the courtesy of returning that love in the sligtest. oughhsdjs

The RWBY crossovers and its additional content are not indicative of RWBY doing well

Since as far back as Volumes 4-5 there have been discussions about RWBY as a franchise and its overall health, whether or not its a successful or a financially viable series. Most of these discussions operate in murky territory, as the information discussed in them is usually assumed or maybe small bits and pieces of official correspondence.

I am not here to talk about whether or not RWBY is successful on its own, although the recent news of underpaid workers, extra hours and the like do indicate that RWBY was produced at least partially due to abuse of workers. No, what i am here to discuss is the RWBY crossovers and the various additional projects that the show has had over time, and whether or not these are good for the franchise or indicative of success or failure.

This thread has been inspired very much by the discussions surrounding projects like Arowfell, because there are many fans of the show who point to such projects to indicate how great RWBY is doing.

Crossovers

Crossovers are a type of media in which two characters/settings/universes or other parts of differing media are tied into a single story or a situation. These have been around for a long time now, especially in various cartoons and have been popularized by Marvel and its "extended universe" which is basically an entire universe of crossovers.

RWBY is no stranger to such things either. RWBY has had crossover with DC comic books, a crossover with the mobile game Crusaders Quest, and even a console fighting game BlazBlue. It also has skins in games like Smite and Paladins. Its pretty good and not every franchise has such reach.

Looking at this, people might assume that RWBY is incredibly popular, no? It has so many appearances in various other media, it HAS to be popular, right?

No, that is not entirely correct. While it is true that crossovers and collaborations of such kind do indicate some amount of popularity (Because both parties have to see a benefit in collaborating), it is not as much as one might think. Even franchises a LOT larger than RWBY do not usually collaborate in any significant manner despite having the ability to do so. Because they have no need to.

Collaborations at the end of the day are there to create a cross-polination of fans, it is basically an advanced advertisement, a "if you like this, maybe you will be interested in this" kind of thing, it does have the benefit of being appreciated by people who are already fans of both things collaborating, but its main purpose is to get new eyes on the product.

And that is kind of the problem...

Because it indicates that RWBY does not exactly have the most sustainable of fanbases with how much crossover projects they are trying to do. Now some may point out that games like Fortnite are doing amazingly despite being crossover baits, and that is correct, because games like Fortnite benefit immensely by not gaining new fans but by getting new skins or other material to use from other games. Crusaders Quest is similar to that, they dont care if they get new fans from their crossovers, what they care is getting new characters/weapons and events for the currently existing fanbase.

RWBY is not like that. It does not get anything from these collaborations. They are non-canon, nothing from them has an effect on the main show or even the RWBY universe. The RWBY universe gets no benefit, no additional IP to use in its works, nada. It just possibly gets new eyes on itself.

We also have to look at the collaboration events that RWBY has had. Did any of them truly benefit RWBY as a show? From looking into the fandom during those events, not really. There was little care generated from the Crusaders Quest event, either of them. The skins for Smite and Paladins were seemingly mostly appreciated by the current fans of RWBY, the DC comic books were of questionable quality and did not really sell too well. And Blazblue died incredibly quickly, not to mention that the reaction of that fanbase to RWBY was visceral.

Its just, the crossovers in their existance seem to be indicative of RWBY fanbase not being large enough, while the crossovers also seemingly fail at bringing in new people. So whats their point?

Not only that, but look at the crossovers i mentioned. What unites ANY of the fanbases mentioned with RWBY? What about RWBY would attract them? Smite and Paladin are MOBA games, they dont really care about shows like RWBY. Mobile players of CQ also dont really care. Only Blazblue seems like a crossover that makes sense, and that was a dud because the Blazblue fanbase did not like RWBY at all due to reputation.

Side Content

RWBY has also a large ammounts of side content, the books writen by Meyers. Ice-Queendom, the comic books from DC that were RWBY canon side-content. The video games of Grimm Eclipse and the newly released Arowfell.

For the most part i would say that the books and the comic books were a success. They did their job well, both expanding the world and giving us pretty well written stories. Of course, i would like if they were more consistent with Canon, as they sometimes seemingly depart from it, or do not cover the events that they maybe should have covered, but this thread is not about that.

Ice Queendom on the other hand.... Forgive me for saying this. But it was average. It truly was nothing special. Both fan and critic alike got hyped for the project, and then everyone went silent. Look, even NOW the community is more likely to discuss V7-8 again that Ice Queendom. It just came and went without much care.

And there is no better way to compare how it did with another Anime based on western IP, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Ice Queendom quickly fell from peoples watch charts and the biggest discussions that were had about it in its entire existance were the Tow Obukata/Arryn Zech drama and the DISASTROUS release of Ice Queendom by RT. RT released Ice Queendom horribly and seemingly with next to no communication with other streaming services, it even lacked subtitles. And its english dub seems to garner next to no attention. We also had that entire "canon-adjacent" discussion which just showed how weak Ice Queendom was in regards to RWBY IP, we all know that its basically non-canon. We all know that its canonicity is less than that of even Grimm Eclipse which has not even a SINGLE mention in the main show. It was also released during the longest hiatus in the shows history, which generated NOTHING for the main show besides a few new viewers that could be seen here on reddit.

On the other hand Edgerunners was a talk of twitter for like a month or two. CD Project Red paired its successful release with a new update for their Cyberpunk game and had a massive discount. The game was revived from the ashes like a Phoenix despite its very bad initial release. You could see the effect on steam charts. And unlike Ice Queendom it also cleanly slides into the games canon and has a connection.

One can even check the MAL reviews for that. Ice Queendom barely racked up 20k votes on its quality, Edgerunners got over 200k. While it is not indicative of full watch numbers, the difference is staggering to say the least.

Grimm Eclipse had some degree of success back 7 years ago, during the Peak RWBY years. While not the best game, it benefited from the RWBY name and its steam chart data seems to be suggesting that too, 3k peak players 7 years ago, relatively large numbers of ownership, one also has to consider that it was quite cheap to buy too.

Arowfell however, that sank like a brick. While we do not have the exact states the steam charts say that it had 140 peak players, the achievements from the Playstation store and Xbox also suggest at most a 300 player existance going off the "open 1 chest" achievement.

At best, we are looking at 1000 to 2000 purchases of the game, and even that is being generous. That would be 30k-60k in money gained from selling the game. Which is a minuscule amount considering that this was worked on by a team which did so for over a year. The game was a flop.

References

This is going to be a short section but it has to be said. References in other show do not indicate a shows success. RWBY fans went berserk when RWBY was referenced in Doctor Sleep. But this means nothing. Directors and other people working on such projects often reference things they personally like, its not an indication of popularity.

That and the cheers that were had over RWBY having a minor presence in playeer number one trailer. Its just... None of this shows that a show is popular.

But RWBY fandom reaction was so over the top and overblown it felt like a "country x" mentioned tweet on twitter where people are just happy their country is referenced.

Ending word

Look, this is not meant as a thread for doomsaying, or even saying that RWBY is failing. Its just meant to tell people to not close their eyes and ears and think that everything is fine because RWBY has so many different ways of branching out. Often this is used as proof that RWBY is super popular and a super duper great show.

And these things just dont show that, not to mention that a lot of these side-projects take time and resources from the main show, a show that many of us want to be focused upon. The unreleased DC x RWBY movie crossovers being the most egregious example of that.

It hurts more especially since most of these side-projects dont seem to garner any success, which does not bode well for the main show in turn.

Of course, any arguments or suggestions of the opposite are welcome.

4 | favorite thing to draw

probably an obvious one, looking at my art, but i like drawing characters with long hair!! i think its fun to think about how different hair styles would fall :D especially locs and braids, i think theyre so so fun to draw

20 | a piece from this year that you're really proud of

uh. maybe an obvious choice again but XD my senior thesis! i didnt really post much of it on tumblr, since this is mostly a fandom space for me rather than a place for my original/gallery art, but ill stick in a picture of my favorite piece from my thesis. this one is called Taurus, and its spray paint on a cement sheet. its like? 5 feet long iirc? its very big LOL those are life sized hand prints (mine, in fact! i got . a lot of spray paint on my skin)

i dunno! i guess like, i put in a lot of small details (like i draw the kid designs for the oak-garcia twins with ecudorian flag bracelets!) so its exciting to me when people notice that. or when people notice similarities in designs, like cereal pointed out the other day that my nicholas is just a baby jodie and i was !!! yeah yeah he is :D and of course my normal and young sparrow designs have the same face, ive talked about that. i like doing stuff like that a lot and its fun to me when people notice!

did you guys know i was really out of it one time and tried writing the main 4 guys having a s/o who had ehlers danlos syndrome but i only got half of it done? dont think i can finish it, but if someone really wants to hear about dante and travis i can do my best {added zane instead {i should write for more of the characters like reese, lucinda, teony, sasha, or cadenza}}

anyway i mostly wrote this for myself but i guess i dont mind sharing it :)

he would do any and everything he could to help

if you needed her to help you pop something back into place, he'd get over his thing about bodies popping very quickly because she wants to make sure you're okay :)

if it's a no energy type of day, he's all for staying inside and watching shows or playing games and if it's a no spoon for interaction, she'll pop in and give you some food, ask if you're doing better, and leave

he's a very touchy person so expect her to constantly want to hold your hand

if you use a mobility aid, he's always trying to find the best ways to get around and not have a blocked path. she's also a big guy and could probably make a path just by walking somewhere, but she likes to walk next to you

if you ever make the 'my body is not a temple, its a parking lot with slushies being thrown like grenades' he always wants to pitch into the absurdity of the joke and giggle, there have been some great writing prompts from those

if you two go to the doctors and they don't believe you have eds, you might have to hold her back from getting in their face ^^;;

if it's a 'why was i given this dysfunctional body' day, he asks if she can hold you in a hug. and if it hurts to stand, he'll just spoon you and try her best to make you feel safe

when you first started dating, he went to go do research and found out about the zebra stuff. the next time she saw you he had a zebra plushie in hand

there's always a chair nearby in the kitchen so in case your legs give out he can just scoot it and {hopefully} catch you

she will get worried when you fall and say 'i couldn't have avoided that, i know how to fall so im okay!' he is intrigued and kinda wants to know how to do it but won't ask

if you need to go get medication and are busy or can't go, she likes to go and get it as a surprise every time

he likes to make zebra jokes-- not at your expense, rather just if they see something with the pattern he'll point and go 'hehe that’s you honey!' this also includes phantom bruises

if you don't have enough energy to cook, they're great at it and will whip up the I Feel Like Garbage {tm} meal

if you ever feel like thinking about the life without eds that could've happened and grieving, he wants to help with distractions but if you don't feel up to it, they understand and says he's always here and loves you no matter what

on your first date they noticed your balance was kinda off, and you confess to not wanting to bring your mobility aid and wanting to weird them out. he then extends their arm and says 'looks like i get to be a replacement for now!' with a smile

your scare prank for them was stretchy skin. you asked him to pinch and pull your arm back- the look on their face was priceless!

if you need a shower chair he finds one so fast

if you need help with dislocations, they ask many 'is this the right spot?' and 'is this enough pressure?' its so sweet

he likes to look into your eyes more because of the blue tint on your sclera. when they first did it he played it off as a joke but now they feel comfortable enough to do it without worrying if he's being creepy

when it's doctor time they want to be in the room to make sure the doctors competent enough to know what they're doing

if you're having a good day and don't take out your mobility aid and still park in the handicap spot, and someone decides to leave a condescending note, you'll have to hold him back before they storm back into the store to ask for something to be done

if you need a weighted blanket he definitely has one

they still aren’t a big fan of hearing you pop your joints, but if you need to or you’ll cramp up/hurt he covers their ears and looks away

if given permission, he would lend you a couple stickers to put on your mobility aid :)

they cook really well, and love to ask for help when baking. he sets in a chair and hands you the mixing bowl, and you check on the sweets in the oven

if someone is being ableist towards either of you, making fun of zane’s lazy eye or insulting you, the other stands up for their partner and make sure to console them after

before you two started dating, you asked zane to push on your finger. they quickly brought his hand to their chest and shook it after seeing how far back it went

he definitely showed you a zecora episode of mlh when spending the day together

if the barometric pressure is so bad that it’s an intense pain day, zane will bring you food and ask to hold you or read a book to you, they want to make sure you’re okay
