"athelnar is queerbaiting"
Absolutely not. You must have NOT watched the show.
Media literacy is at an all time low but come on! Ragnar told Athelstan he loved him, straight up in the face and people will still say "he meant it as brothers/friends" how about the time he asked Athelstan to sleep with him? Can't remember him asking Rollo or Floki that!
In my opinion, it just proves that some people are homophobes. Yes, Ragnar was also married to Lagertha and later Aslaug, but there's this funny thing called Bisexuality and Ragnar was not all that known for never cheating.
Sure, he wanted kids, but if you seriously think he wasn't absolutely in love with Athelstan and only wanted these kids because of the way he was raised, in a culture where having children to remember him and make people remember him is everything!
Just because they never kissed of intercoursed (on screen, atleast) doesn't mean their relationship wasn't canon. He intercoursed with Aslaug multiple times, doesn't make them be all in love and shit but hell was Ragnar in love with Athelstan

i do think merlin and arthur had the perfect dynamic. an episode would end with arthur being like merlin you're my closest friend and confidante and the greatest man i've ever met. and merlin would be like i'd kill and die for you we are two sides of the same coin. and then you'd start the next episode and it would begin with arthur smacking merlin upside the head and calling him an ugly peasant and merlin calling arthur a fat idiot.

sometimes what you need to get out of a deep depression is to start shipping a fictional couple that encourages you to read fanfiction until 3 am.

gay rep is like “kyaaaaaah!!! i like a boy but… i’m a boy >////<?!?!” meanwhile queerbait will be “it’s not a game for me troy. i’m seeing real lava because you’re leaving. it’s embarrassing and i don’t want to be crazy, but i am crazy so… i made a game that made you and everyone else see what i see. i don’t want it to be there either, i swear. i want you to be able to leave, but i don’t think the lava goes away until you stop leaving”

im annoyed and a little pedantic so can i just say as a blanket statement
queerbaiting is when the promotion for a FICTIONAL STORY intentionally hints towards two characters having a romantic relationship, without any intention to follow through in the show, in order to get queer people watching without discouraging the homophobic enjoyers of the show
queerbaiting is NOT:
a celebrity who you think is queer because theyre gnc or they have a 'vibe'. that is a real person and they cannot queerbait
two friends of the same gender pretending to flirt with each other for fun. those are real people and they cannot queerbait
a show with two characters of the same gender who are canonically friends that YOU PERSONALLY think would be better in a relationship. that's not bating, that's shipping, and subject to opinion
there are more but those are the main examples of people misunderstanding what queerbaiting is and being mad at something that isn't actually a problem

See, I actually agree that Destiel is probably the more iconic gay ship, but all of the reasons that it's iconic are terrible. This is a show whose writers were so dedicated to queerbaiting their audience that they no-homoed a dying love confession. That's surely an achievement, but it's not one to be proud of!
