A book asks the reader to imagine any sensory input of the story, whereas a film or TV show provides both sound and visuals. Audio fiction lives in the space between these two approaches. I think there's a unique power to that middle ground. I love how audio drama asks the listener to co-construct their sensory experience of the story.

Audio drama allows me to simultaneously experience 'This character feels real to me because I've heard their voice' and 'This character feels real to me because I've pictured them myself'.

What the characters are experiencing is both directly presented to me and left to my imagination. There's no page or screen between me and the story. It's there in my ears. It's there in my mind's eye.

There's a strange sense of intimacy to that, the intimacy of feeling like a fly on the wall during a conversation or of hearing a character speaking as if directly to me. Perhaps it sounds contradictory to say that experiencing a story only through sound allows me to feel uniquely connected to that story, but that's one of the reasons why I love audio fiction so much.

#I am conscious that this is very much the perspective of a sighted and hearing person #and I hope that doesn't come across weirdly #I'm just trying to articulate how I feel about it #This is no shade to books/films/TV btw #They are also excellent mediums with their own strengths #Honestly the main reason why podcasts are my primary form of media consumption #is probs that I'm bad at setting aside time to read/watch things #rather than necessarily because of the specific power of audio fiction #but the particular magic of audio fiction is a nice bonus #I don't really buy into the idea that reading is 'active' while watching video is inherently 'passive' #but under that way of thinking audio fiction is kind of between passive and active in an interesting way #podcasts #audio drama #audio fiction #the empty man posteth #I'd be interested to know if this resonates with anyone else or if it's just me #Also another element to this which makes it weirder is that I have a pretty weak visual imagination #so when I say 'mind's eye' that tends to mean vague concepts for me rather than actual images #but it still helps me feel connected to the story in a unique way. #disney #beauty and the beast #meta #disney meta #txt #belle was never abused once by the beast in the movie. he was really just a jerk #y'all do realize that there are people who are jerks that aren't necessarily abusive #now they might have a higher inclination for it but no beast never abused her #the scene where he lost his temper was supposed to show how much beastly nature was having a hold on him and he immediately showed regret #afterwards. as soon as belle called him out on his bad temper he never tried any other shit ever again #y'all really think that if he was abusive he would have redeemed himself THAT quickly? #again he did act like an ass but he was not an abuser. i don't think he woulda even been able to stomach doing something to her #unintentionally or not #the entire point of the story is that despite him literally being a beast belle was able to see “beauty” in him #she was able to look past that and see that he was actually a good person but that he just needed to improve himself #see belle wasn't a “i can fix him” type. she was the inspiration for him to become a better individual #being with her made him feel things he probably never felt before. he felt loved wanted desired #that is what he needed but had stayed away from because of his own insecurities #which is also why this discussion about whether he was hot in his human form or not is irrelevant in the end #belle loved him for who he was and she probably thought he was the most beautiful man in the whole world both visually and spiritually #also beast respected and loved belle. gaston only lusted her and saw her as a pontential trophy wife to boost his social status #you see gaston and beast are actually quite similar in the beginning #but the thing is that beast has virtues that gaston lacks #beast also wanted belle just to break a spell although he did try to show her humanity to show that there was an emotional complex human #being but he did genuinely fall in love with her and let her go. he sacrificed himself and his servants because he truly loved her #gaston would have never done that before he was already too far gone in his fixation with being the BEST #anyways #i have gone long enough about this but you get my point

the way astarion wants freedom but sees power as the truest form of it vs the way ram is so sick of powerful entities toying with him and others that he'll do anything to help astarion gain whatever he considers freedom...

And so instead of escaping the struggles that have defined them they simply repeat them. Cazador isn't completely gone, because astarion steps into his place. And ram cedes himself body and soul to a man who will become everything he always thought he hated.

Astarion said once that he never understood how long eternity could be until he was under cazador's boot. I think ram may have the same realization when he finally realizes what he's become.

The way you draw noses, ears, bodies, fur, it looks like of I were to reach my hand out I could actually feel it, the bumps in the skin the squish of the flesh the softness of the hair. Not to mention the colors you use are very pleasing to the eye. So lovely... keep up the phenomenal work!!!

#that's actually one of the tricks I use when I'm having trouble getting the shape and form of something right #I try to visualize the thing right in front of me and rotate it around and look at it from different angles #and imagine that if I could touch it how flexible and yelding it would be and what the surface would feel like #since I don't shade my art very dutifully the sense of tangibility has to come from somewhere else #so I guess I'm putting a lot of eggs in the shape basket #and I try to give off the effect that despite the flatness of my style the things I draw still exist in 3d space and have weight and volume #I've talked about this before but man I love anatomy it's one of my favorite things in the world #I specifically try to convey the feel that there's layers of muscle and bone and various other tissues under the skin #like my characters are made of flesh and not solid uniform rubber coated with fur or something like that (?) #I don't know what I'm talking about it's late hah #but I'm glad you like my art #anonymous #answered
