Notice in the post below that the only named task that the OP struggled with is homework?
Now, people diagnosed with ADHD or similar disorders often do struggle with tasks that we might actually want to do, but almost always, the diagnosis is linked in everyone's mind to an inability to do homework.
But homework is fucking bullshit.
I really think it's absurd to ignore that fact when talking about how you complete tasks.
"Gosh, my kid seems to have a lot of trouble focusing on dull make-work which I force him to do for two hours every single day, why could this be?"
I spent literally as little time in school as I could and still graduate. As in, by my junior or senior year the principal sat me down and said, "If you skip anymore school we aren't going to be able to graduate you from High School."
And yet... When I bothered to go, I got good grades. I did generally quite well on tests and did eventually graduate. I'm quite proud of that as an act of self-mastery but it does raise the question:
Why was so much energy spent on trying to get me to go to school for all that time when I was demonstrably able to get the benefits with literal years less work than they wanted me to put in?
Why was so much time spent trying to devote those years to schoolwork when it simply wasn't necessary for me to learn?
Homework is a microcosm of that whole question. I always wanted to know,
"So, if I can skip 60% of the homework and still get an "A" on the test, why do you try to force me to do it?"
And to this day I have never gotten a good answer.
So: I saw no value in most of my homework and that hasn't changed to this day.
So, here's a pop quiz for the people wondering why their kids with diagnoses don't do their homework no matter what planning and techniques adults supply them with:
What would your kid have to do to spend less of their valuable time on homework?
"Well, if they just knuckled down and got it done..."
BZZT! WRONG! You get a "D-" on this test and I really hope you apply yourself more to the next one, you have so much potential...
If they "forget about it" then they have to do even less.
Now, of course that means that your kid is in a state of constant stress from avoidance. They are thinking, "Man, I'm going to get in so much trouble for not doing this, but I just can't seem to force myself to do it, and anyway I don't fucking want to."
You think that they'd be better off spending two stressful hours on their homework and then being able to relax the rest of the time. They feel like they'll be happier not doing it at all and feeling a vague undercurrent of stress as they go about their leisure time.
What's the third option if they want to spend less time on homework?
Oh, nothing? Is it nothing whatsoever until they graduate from school?
This is infuriatingly counter-productive. We spend literal years teaching ADHD kids that avoidance and procrastination are the only ways to exert control over their lives in the face of unpleasant situations imposed from outside.
Now, in point of fact this is absolutely not the case for adult life, which offers a plethora of ways to reduce pointless make-work imposed on you by outside authorities and, in any case, rarely bothers to impose two hours per day of unpaid, unrewarding make-work on people anyway.
How much of the difficulty ADHD people have with cleaning the toilet or whatever is because psychologically, they still think of it as homework? Cleaning the toilet is not homework; it rewards you with a clean toilet at the end and it's entirely possible to defer it, or hire someone else to do it, or find shortcuts. But if the major psychological task of your childhood is homework, maybe it might take quite a long time to think that there could even be anything aside from homework?

Hello lovely! Two things: 1. GOOD LUCK SHIFTING I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT. 2. Might I send in a little request? If so; Obi-Wan and Reader are both Jedi masters on the council. They just so happen to be trying to meditate together when they begin reading each other's thoughts on accident... smut ensues?
Whether you do this request or not, just know I appreciate you and everything you create -🦇 anon
Your thoughts are extremely loud
Omgggg-
I have the biggest thing for mind reading-
You're literally the sweetest
Warnings: SMUT, inappropriate use of the force, language, pnv penetration, FEM! reader, let me know if I missed anything 🩷
Tumblr media
Obi Wan sat across from you, his breathing was level, his face was relaxed, and his thoughts we concentrated. You knew this because every once in a while you would peek your eyes open and look over to him.
"(Y/N)" he said when you opened your eyes to peek at him "sorry.." you let out a sigh. meditation was your thing! You were always so content and focused however ,you'd never done it with another member of the council
"something bothering you?" Obi Wan questioned with his eyes still closed
You've learned from past experiences that it's better to be honest with your peers, that's the Jedi way "it's just that I'm having a hard time.. relaxing I guess?"
"be cautious of your thoughts (Y/N), just because I'm here doesn't mean you can't meditate" how did he know that?
"Obi Wan! What have I told you about getting in my head? I have private things in there" You opened your eyes completely and stood up. You weren't actually that upset, more scared that he would find your hidden fantasies.
"I'm gonna go train. Meditation isn't working.. maybe swinging a lightsaber around will"
---
You faced the large rock with your ignited saber in hand thinking about what you wanted to do. You went with sokan, sokan was developed by Jedi during the great sith war..it felt right.
The glow of your (L/C) saber grazed over the rock before you yelled and ran at it with full five attacking
"Y/N), I know you're having the time of your life slashing the holy hell out of that rock, and also- why a rock? You have PLENTY of sparring partners in there"
You rolled your eyes "I need to be alone" and you did. You needed to think about all of your emotions, because you didn't want to love obi wan, you just wanted to make a legacy, a change, help people. Falling in love wasn't helpful for a jedi.
"you know talking about things like this can help"
"you don't know what's wrong so how could you help, you don't know what I think about"
"actually I do" obi wan walked over to you and you pressed the small red button on your saber to retract the blade.
"what are you talking about?"
"oh maker I want to get dicked down by him so bad right now, like for real-"
Obi Wan had said to you exactly what you thought while meditating earlier "Obi Wan.."
"I would let him do anything to me" he looked down to you and smirked "your thoughts are extremely loud"
---
The big chrome door slid shut while Obi Wan pushed you down to his bed. Your hands immediately flew up to your robes sliding them off while he did the same
"Obi Wan please.." that was all he needed to use the force. He slightly drew a long stripe from where his cock was slamming into you up to your sensitive clit
"let me in honey" and you did. Whenever a force user has sex it's amazing..you felt like Obi Wan was a part of you and you felt as you were a part of him. "Shit, s'so tight..I'm gonna" you looked up at Obi Wan with pleading eyes "m-me too..."
I KNOW THE SMUT WAS SHIRT BUT I HAVEN'T WRITTEN AN ACTUAL STORY IN A WHILE😭

Falling for you (literally)
Tumblr media
genre: fluff, best friends to lovers, drunken confession
pairing: Soonyoung x reader
summary: You never would've thought that helping a drunk Soonyoung go home would lead to him falling for you both literally and figuratively.
warnings: a little bit of swearing, mentions of drinking and alcohol
note: Drunk Hoshi never fails to make me laugh 😭😂. This fic is part of an ask for drunken confession fics. Enjoy reading <33
Tumblr media
"Come on, let's go home," you sigh when you catch sight of Soonyoung's slumped figure in the bar, his friends nowhere to be seen.
"I don't wanna. I'm tired," Soonyoung wines in response as he leans his body weight on you, his face puffy and flushed a light shade of pink from all the alcohol.
You should've known better than to believe Jeonghan when he called saying that your best friend was feeling sick and needed someone to take him to the hospital.
When you realized Jeonghan lied and called you only because he didn't want to be the one to haul Soonyoung's drunk ass home, to say you felt betrayed would be an understatement.
"I swear to god Jeonghan I will get you back for this," you mutter and curse Jeonghan under your breath as you take Soonyoung's limbs and attempt to haul him out of the bar. "Come on Soonyoung let's get out of here."
"Nooo~," Soonyoung whines as tears begin to escape his eyes, "I never got to beat Jeonghan in his drinking game."
"It's okay, next time you can try to win against Jeonghan," you say as you try to reason with Soonyoung, while knowing very well that with his alcohol tolerance he has about a zero percent chance of ever winning any drinking game whatsoever.
"Your house is close by, so you can walk a little right?" you question as you silently asses Soonyoung's condition. He seems a bit unstable so you wrap his arm around your shoulders and let him lean his weight on you. When you feel his hot skin meet yours you try to brush off the speeding up of your heartbeat, praying desperately that Soonyoung is too drunk to notice.
"Mhmm...I can walk," Soonyoung says with a drunken giggle as he stumbles out the door of the bar and leans his head on your shoulder.
"Careful, there's stairs here," you warn, slowing down so that Soonyoung can gain at least a bit of stability.
"Okayy~" Soonyoung giggles in response before letting out a scream as he trips over his own two feet and tumbles down the stairs.
"SOONYOUNG," you yell, panicked as you quickly run down the stairs. "Are you okay?"
"hehehe~" Soonyoung drunkenly giggles. "I fell for you."
Your mind goes in overdrive the moment you hear his words. On one hand you're concerned for him after just falling down the stairs seconds ago. The blood running down his knee and forehead has you wanting to rush him home so you can quickly take care of him.
But on the other hand, your brain is stuck on his confession that seems way too fake to be real. His confession that, if true, means your feelings might not actually be one-sided after all.
It must be a joke.
After all, Soonyoung makes a ton of jokes when he's drunk.
"No, you fell down the stairs. You should really learn to hold your liquor," you respond jokingly, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible and ignoring Soonyoung's past comment.
"Nooo~ I'm being serious," Soonyoung whines as tears begin to fall down his cheeks while he clings to your body. "Why can't you believe what I say? I like you."
You swear your heart stops in that moment. Gently, you cup Soonyoung's flushed face with your hand as you let out a fond laugh. "I like you too, but let's talk about this when you're sober."
Soonyoung lets out an excited squeal when he hears your response. "I guess my seducing techniques worked. I purposely wore clothes I knew you would like and-," Soonyoung begins to ramble before being interrupted by your embarrassed scream.
"You were doing that on purpose?!" You let out a embarrassed laugh as you give Sooonyoung a playful shove. "Anyways, we should go to your house. There's blood all over your knee and forehead"
"Can I have a kiss on my scratches? I think it'll help it get better," Soonyoung pouts while looking at you earnestly.
"That's kind of dirty though. There's blood-"
"Please?"
"Fine. But this is only because I like you," you relent as you gently kiss his knee and forehead.
"Okay, now a kiss here," Soonyoung says as he giggles and leans in closer to you to give you a kiss on the lips.
"Not right now. We need to get you cleaned up first," you say while ignoring Soonyoung's cries of protest. "I'll give you as many kisses as you want but only if you can walk with me to your house."
The second Soonyoung hears your words he jumps up and happily stumbles after you as you lead him to his house.
Tumblr media
You let out a fond smile as you tuck in a passed-out Soonyoung.
"I'm falling for you more and more every day," you whisper into his ear as you give a small peck on his forehead, right where a tiger printed band-aid sits (Soonyoung cried until you let him have the tiger band-aid) evidence of where Soonyoung quite literally fell for you.

Leading Up to the Wedding
Oh mans is lowkey freaking out
Not in a bad way, so don’t fret about if he is unsure if he wants to go through with this
He wouldn’t have proposed if he wasn’t absolutely sure that you are the love of his life and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you
He’a just more concerned with wanting everything to go perfectly
We all know Law is the “man with the plan” so if anything falls out of plan he will literally turn into groomszilla lol
But despite this he tries hard to keep his cool, calm and collected composure for your sake. He always puts you first despite his own fears
Day of the Wedding
It’s the day of the wedding, and his nerves are still ever present, he’s more stressed than he was dealing with the straw hat crew 💀
All his crew will be attending the wedding, Penguin and Shachi being his groomsmen and Bepo being his best man/ring bearer
So many thoughts will be swarming his head both positive and negative
He will be thinking about corazon and how much he wished he would be here to see him on his special day
He knows corazon would have both stressed him out more with his clumsiness but also reassure him that everything would be okay and how proud he was of him
He wishes you could have met him and knows if he was still here, he would be a great father in law to you
The ceremony has commenced, everyone is gathered with him, Bepo, Penguin, and Shachi at the alter
Law is rocking a fitted tux (not his style but he is wearing his signature spotted hat for a little flare)
You enter the room in a gorgeous white gown and Law looked like he had seen an angel
You looked absolutely breathtaking and he couldn’t believe such a beautiful person was about to marry him
Once you reached Law you greeted him with a beaming smile that made all his nerves vanish
You said your vows first, starting with how you two met and how basically Law had his guard up in the beginning but over time you’ve gotten to know him and learn what a beautiful, intelligent, and kind person he was. You also added a few inside jokes throughout that made Law chuckle slightly reminiscing on special moments you two shared throughout your relationship
You ended your vows expressing how much you truly loved him and how you will continue to love and care for him for the rest of your lives
From your words to the way you looked at him, Law felt so much love and he knew you meant every word that you said
Starting off his vows, he talks about how he never thought he would find love or experience love due to how much loss he has had to witness when he was a kid
He then shares that in the beginning he was afraid to pursue you because he didn’t want to experience the heartache he did when he was younger
But the more he got to know you and the more time he spent with you, you allowed him to open up and express himself unlike anybody else.
He then shares how he is so infatuated with your mind, how you think and challenge him, infatuated with your spirit and how you instantly brighten his day and make him want to be a better person, infatuated by your beauty and how he falls in love all over again every time he looks into your eyes
He ends it by saying he loves you so much and you are the literal sunshine in his life
You tear up at his words, you’re so in awe of the man before you, you couldn’t wait to call him your husband
Bepo brings the rings to you both and you both place the rings on each other’s fingers
After both being asked the age old question, you both say I do and the whole crew cheers with teary eyes as you two share a loving kiss as newly weds
Cee’s note: might make a nsfw part 2 about the reception and honeymoon 😉

Tumblr media
july 4th, 1956
“honey, i promise you it’s all gonna be alright,” you comforted elvis as he stood in front of the bathroom mirror, staring blankly into it.
you walked behind elvis, wrapping your arms around him and laying your head on his back. elvis was silent, which was usual for him when he was overthinking.
“just go with your heart, baby. what you feel in your heart could never lead you wrong,” you whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his back.
your moment was interrupted when you looked over to see the colonel entering the room. you internally rolled your eyes, backing away from your boyfriend.
“you ready to go, my boy?” the colonel smiled and all you wanted to do was slap the grin right off of his face.
elvis turned to look at him while placing his palm on your lower back.
“yeah, let me get my tie on and i’ll be out there in a second,” elvis nodded to him.
“miss y/n, you’ll be riding with mrs. and mr. presley. correct?” the colonel asked like he didn’t already know the answer.
you nodded your head as you chewed on your bottom lip.
“well, um… i have you a great seat that’s away from the parents. wouldn’t want any fans spotting you with them and speculating, would we?” the colonel chuckled.
“we sure wouldn’t,” you spoke coldly, pressing your lips together.
you hadn’t liked the colonel since the moment that you met him. you always told mrs. presley that there was something off about him. but you tolerated him, only for elvis’s sake of course.
the first time you ever met the colonel, he made it very clear that he didn’t want you in the public eye at all. he didn’t even want you going in public with elvis. he wanted you to be a ghost, basically.
you had been with elvis since before his career took off. so when the first conversation arose about ‘being available’ between the colonel and elvis, elvis told him that he couldn’t pay him enough money to take you away from him. it was definitely out of question.
elvis had told you everything the colonel had suggested to him and you started disliking him even more after that.
you tried to understand that elvis only went along with the secretiveness of your relationship to keep the colonel happy because he was indeed, his boss. but sometimes you think there’s more reasoning than he’s letting onto.
“ya’ help me with my tie, baby?” you were pulled out of your thoughts as you heard elvis’s voice. also noticing the colonel had left the room.
you smiled softly and nodded, grabbing the red and white tie that was laid out on the bed. you raised onto to your tippy toes a bit, bringing the tie around elvis’s neck.
you could feel his eyes staring down on you. elvis knew that you didn’t like the secretiveness of the relationship. but he also knew you didn’t want it to be public just for the fame. you wanted everyone to know that you loved him and that he loved you, plain and simple.
“you know i love you?” elvis asked, seemingly out of nowhere. you switched your eyes up to his blue ones for a few seconds before focusing on the task at hand.
“i do,” you said quietly, you felt so small with him basically standing over you.
you finished with his tie and gave him a light pat on the chest. you watched as he grabbed his tux jacket and pulled it on. you could see how tense the show had him just by his posture.
elvis walked closer to you as he buttoned just one of the buttons on his jacket, before bringing his hands to cup your cheeks.
“i’m gonna go with my heart… just like you told me,” elvis told you softly.
you nodded your head as he leaned down to press a short kiss to your lips.
“i love you,” you whispered against his lips before the both of you pulled away.
“and i love you,” elvis said, taking your hand and exiting the room.
you rode with elvis’s family to the russwood park stadium where the show was going to take place. the car was full of tension and no one really said a word on the way there until vernon spoke up.
“i hope elvis don’t pull nothin’ that could get us in trouble,” you peered out of the window as the car pulled into the stadium. you had never seen so many people in your life.
“y/n, did he say anything to ya about what he was going to do? he won’t tell us anything… and i’m just so worried i can’t take it,” gladys spoke, looking over to you with sincere eyes.
“no ma’am, um… he just told me he was going to follow his heart… which i think is the best thing for him,” you said and gladys reached to squeeze your hand, nodding.
the car came to a halt as a man in uniform opened the back door signaling for you to get out. you stepped out, gladys stepping out shortly behind you.
a few men in uniform walked the group of you behind the stage, awaiting elvis who had apparently just arrived because the screams of fans became louder and louder.
“there are reserved seats for the family on the side,” a man spoke to elvis’s parents, pointing to a group of empty chairs.
gladys counted them, noticing there was not a chair for one of you. she began to open her mouth but looked over to see the colonel and elvis walking up.
you couldn’t even get a word out before the colonel had grabbed your arm and pulled you in front of the stage, walking in between the crowd and the men lining the stage that were wearing white.
“best seat in the house,” the colonel cockily smiled and pointed to the only empty chair in the first row. it was towards the end where a bunch of dancers that had previously been on the stage were sitting.
“thank you,” you rolled your eyes as you sat down, watching him scurry back over behind the stage.
you began to rub your hands up and down your thighs, becoming nervous from the large group of people around you. you hoped elvis would be on soon, so all of your attention could be on him.
“i wonder if he’s ever slept with a fan,” you heard a girl giggle behind you. you subconsciously listened in on their conversation, trying your best to hear over the crowd.
“i bet so! but i heard he’s got a girl…” you heard another voice come from behind you. you scratched your neck as you leaned back further to listen closely.
“i heard somewhere that it was an actress or something. they were seen downtown a couple of weeks ago but they’re trying to keep it secretive. that’s why he’s always said he’s single but i also heard he’s a cheat… so you might have a chance,” the girl continued.
your fingers started to play with the hem of your dress nervously.
you were indeed not an actress, just a regular girl.
how could he cheat on me?
he’s always with me, when could he have done this?
are they telling the truth?
questions started to fog your brain as tears whelmed up in your eyes. you couldn’t believe what you had just heard.
you quickly rubbed your eyes to rid them of tears that were about to escape as elvis walked onto the stage. the screams got louder as you tried to subside your thoughts.
elvis stood in front of the microphone, silent for a few seconds as fans calmed down.
“there’s been a lot of talk about the new elvis,” your boyfriend spoke into the microphone, signaling shouts of discouragement from fan's.
“and of course that other guy…” you watched as elvis rose his pinky finger and wiggled it, singing a short line from hound dog.
all negative thoughts put behind you, you smiled to yourself, he could never be serious for too long. and that’s one of the reasons you loved him.
everyone cheered for him as he looked through the crowd, his eyes landing on you.
“a lot of people say a lot of things,” elvis started, “of course, you’ve got to listen to the people that you love,” elvis spoke, looking over to the colonel and nodding.
you began to feel nervous for him, thinking the colonel had coursed him in the car on the way here.
“but in the end, you’ve got to listen to yourself,” elvis said, shooting you a quick look as you gave him a comforting smile.
“so i want you to know those new york people ain’t gon’ change me none,” elvis shouted, the crowd cheering and you began to clap.
you watched as he walked over and sat his guitar down on a piano and whispered a word to his bandmate.
“i’m gon’ show you what the real elvis is like tonight!” elvis yelled as he gripped his microphone.
you grinned as you stood up, clapping for him with everyone else.
“you lookin’ for trouble?” elvis began to sing as his band started playing. you smirked to yourself, knowing the colonel was probably shitting his pants right now.
you were almost knocked off of your feet as the fans began to push towards the stage, which caused your body to be nailed up against it.
you tried your best to breathe as you watched your boyfriend perform but the people pushing against you didn’t help.
your boyfriend's back was to you as he sang, “so don’t you mess around with me,” walking backward to your side of the stage and settling right in front of you.
“i never looked for trouble, but i never ran,” elvis sang, his leads spreading right in front of you.
you looked up at him and licked your lips as you took him all in. he was the most beautiful man you had ever seen.
and he was all mine… you thought possessively to yourself but the words from the girls that were behind you a few minutes ago popped back in your head.
you zoned out for about 30 seconds, staring at the floor of the stage as girls pushed and shoved around you.
your thoughts snapped as you saw your boyfriend's knees hit the stage in front of you. he made quick eye contact with you before singing.
“because i’m evil,” elvis thrusted his hips in front of you as you smirked up at him.
his face got closer to yours as you stared at him in awe. only ungodly thoughts crossed your mind.
his familiar fingers grabbed your face, his face stilling a few inches away while singing, “my middle name is misery.”
you could’ve fallen to the floor at that moment, watching as he pulled away from you and stood back up.
a few short seconds later, the crowd started going absolutely berserk. guards were attacking people as your rib cage was probably getting bruised, getting pushed against the stage.
you started to have a panic attack due to everything going on around you. you couldn’t even pay a speck of attention to your boyfriend. your mind was everywhere.
not even a minute later, elvis was being pulled off of the stage by a group of men. he frantically tried to get away from them all while trying to find your face in the crowd, which he did.
“get her out of there!” elvis frantically yelled to one of his band mates.
tears fled your eyes as you watched the men manhandle your boyfriend and also from the pain of people pushing against you.
you felt relief as one of elvis’s band mates pulled you out of the crowd and onto the stage. the both of you quickly jumped off before a guard could pull you off.
you ran over to the car you arrived in, seeing gladys yelling at someone and looking over to see it was elvis. he made eye contact with you, knowing you were safe.
“mama, get in the car!” elvis screamed as he got shoved into the back of his car.
you grabbed gladys’s arm, pulling her into the car and away from the commotion. elvis watched out of his window to make sure you and his family were in the car and safe.
you arrived back at graceland, noticing the car that elvis was in was already parked at the front.
the whole ride home you had been thinking about what those girls who were sitting behind you had said. the words burned into your mind, every word playing on repeat in your head.
you should be thinking about the absolute catastrophe that had just happened at the show but your mind didn’t allow you to.
you walked into the house, elvis’s family still loading out of the car behind you. the first thing you saw was elvis pacing around the living room, cursing to himself.
“oh my god… y/n, honey… are you okay? elvis asked as he walked up to you. you nodded softly as hugged you, placing a kiss on your forehead.
“elvis!” vernon screamed as he walked in, “i’m glad to see you’re okay but what in the hell was that?”
elvis just stood there and shook his head.
“deddy, i ain’t mean for things to get that out of hand,” elvis spoke, staring down at the floor.
“i’m just glad you’re okay, baby,” gladys whispered as she gave elvis a loving hug.
the tension in the room started to come down until vernon began to yell again about how elvis should’ve known better and how the colonel was going to let him go.
“i don’t give a damn, deddy!” elvis spewed. you had never seen him so mad before, he had gone off on almost everyone in the room except you and his mama at this point. elvis stopped yelling as the front door opened and the colonel walked in.
the colonel had a disappointed look on his face which made you want to snicker but you didn’t.
you watched as elvis walked closer to him, his face red from yelling.
elvis started by pointing a finger in his face, “first of all, i want to know why the hell you put my girl in that damn crowd? she was getting crushed out there! i’m not putting up with your-“
“elvis, it’s fine,” you placed your hand on his shoulder trying to drag him away from the colonel but he wouldn’t budge.
“it’s not fucking fine, y/n!” elvis yelled, getting very close to your face. you backed away, tears immediately forming in your eyes. the two of you had had fights but he had never screamed in your face.
the colonel shook his head and spoke up which made elvis’s attention snap to him, “i’ll just leave. it’s not a good time. we can talk about all of this tomorrow.” he turned towards the door as the room was engulfed in silence.
“no, i’ll leave,” you spurted out, wiping the tears from under your eyes.
elvis looked over to you, now noticing how upset you were. you watched his heart break into a million pieces at the sight of you.
“honey, no… i didn’t mean-“ elvis started as his hands tried to reach out and pull you into him but you strayed away from him.
“i’m fine, i’ll see you tomorrow,” you said lowly, not making eye contact with anyone as you grabbed your keys that sat on the table by the entrance.
you opened the door, slamming it a little too hard as you shut it. you ran down the steps, hearing the door open and close behind you.
“y/n, i didn’t mean to yell. just come back in and i’ll get the colonel to leave. we can just go onto bed, please just come back in,” elvis said as he walked quickly behind you.
the thoughts of him cheating on you ran through your head once again, you couldn’t take anymore.
you turned around to face him as you made it to the side of your car.
“i need space, elvis,” you said, staring into his glossy blue eyes.
“are you mad at me because i yelled? i promise you, i ain’t mean to get that loud. you know i wouldn’t do nothin’ to ever intentionally upset you, darlin’,” elvis said with tears in his eyes, walking closer but you backed away.
you ignored his question, “elvis, just let me go. i’ll be fine in the morning and we can put this behind us. you’ve just gotta give me some space, okay?”
“okay…” elvis whispered as you opened the car door on your purple cadillac that elvis had bought you a while ago after you told him you didn’t need it, but he insisted.
you sank in the seat, reaching to close the door but elvis’s hand stopped it.
“i love you, y/n,” he peered down at you as he held the door open.
“i love you, elvis,” you said bluntly, simply not in the mood. tears leave his eyes, that’s the first time you had said i love you to him that sounded like you didn’t mean it. elvis let go of the door so you shut it and started your car.
elvis watched as you drove out of the gates, not knowing you had started to cry again shortly after pulling away.
it had been 3 days since the last time you saw elvis. he had called you the morning after the incident but you told him that you didn’t feel well and just wanted to rest at home, which wasn’t a lie but it wasn’t the whole story.
he had called a few more times that day and your mama had answered. you told her to tell him that you didn’t feel like coming to the phone so she did. but he didn’t let her off after that, asking questions like
“you sure she doesn’t need to go to the hospital?”
“will you let me know if i can bring her anything?”
“mrs. y/l/n, will you tell her to call me when she’s feeling better?”
“can i come to see her? i don’t wanna bother her but i won’t stay long.”
and the list goes on… he was worried sick about you.
you being okay was the only thing he could think about, but the only thing you could think about is his lips on another woman’s… his hands wondering someone else’s body…
you had driven yourself crazy over the words that had come out of that girl's mouth a few nights ago. your mama even started to worry about you because you barely ever stayed at your own house. you had even started to call graceland your home because you were there 90% of the time. but you had been locked up in your bedroom for three days now.
you overheard your mom on the phone as you poured yourself some cereal in the kitchen.
“so he rose his voice at her? you think this is the whole reason she’s been acting like this? there’s got to be something else we don’t know about… you know they’ve had their fights but they’re usually over it by the next day. i just can’t put a hammer to the nail, gladys,” you heard your mother say, instantly listening closer when you heard she was talking about you.
a few seconds of silence went by before she continued, “if i figure it out i’ll let you know, and don’t worry bout her. y/n is a tough girl, she’ll get through whatever it is.”
more silence.
“yes, i’ll let her know. mhm, okay… bye,” you heard the phone being placed back on the hook as you quickly went back to making your cereal.
you then heard her footsteps walking towards the kitchen, wishing you had time to escape the conversation but you did not.
“gladys just called,” your mother said, entering the kitchen and sitting on a stool at the bar.
“and said?” you asked, scooping a spoon full of cereal into your mouth and then looking over to her.
“well, you won’t tell me what happened between you and elvis… so i asked about it. she said something about elvis yelling at you while he was trying to defend you to the colonel. is that true?”
you scoffed at the fact they were conspiring on your relationship, “y’all do know we’re not 17 anymore, right? y’all don’t have to discuss us or guide us through this. we’re not kids anymore.”
“listen, gladys is worried sick about you and so is elvis. whatever happened between the two of you can be worked out, i’m sure of that. you love that boy and he loves you, i know it and so does everyone else. you can’t throw five good years together down the drain, y/n.”
you shook your head as anger began to flow through your veins. you didn’t do this, elvis did. elvis caused all of this. you finally lost it.
“mama, i didn’t throw five years down the damn drain! elvis did with some other woman! but keep thinking you know it fucking all!” you yelled before you stormed out of the kitchen.
you had never talked to your mother that way but she had to be crazy to think you’d stopped talking to the man over him raising his voice at you. it was pathetic to think.
you slammed your door as you walked into your bedroom. you crawled into your bed and bawled your eyes out for what felt like hours before you fell asleep.
you were woken up at the sound of someone knocking at your front door. you looked over to the clock on your bedside table which read 11:34 PM.
you got out of your bed and wandered down the hall, seeing your mom had already answered the door and she was talking to someone who stood behind the door frame.
“mama, who is that? it’s almost midnight,” you groggily complained as you got closer to the door.
your mother stepped out of the way, revealing elvis. you squinted to make sure it was really him and pinched yourself to make sure you weren’t dreaming.
but it was real, and it was him standing on your front porch with the most sorrowed look on his face, holding a bouquet of flowers.
“absolutely not,” you started, turning around to head back to your room, “go home elvis!” you yelled, hearing his footsteps coming behind you in the hallway as you sped up.
“y/n! just talk to me, baby,” elvis chased behind you. you made it to your bedroom door, trying to shut it but elvis slipped in the door before you could.
he stood in front of you and you thought to yourself, i’ve never seen him look this rough before. he looked like he had been crying but he had no damn right to be crying after what he did to you.
you imagined you looked like pure death, standing there wearing a large t-shirt and some of his boxers he had left at your house years ago. you had red speckles all over your face from bawling so hard. you hadn’t brushed your hair in days.
“elvis, get out…” you muttered, not having the strength to look him in the eyes any longer so your sight rested on the floor.
“just explain to me, y/n… what did i do? was it the yelling? i-“ elvis started as you looked up at him with a shocked face.
“you think this is about the stupid 5 seconds that you yelled at me? don’t act fucking stupid elvis!” you laughed in disbelief while simultaneously feeling tears brim your eyes.
“you think that i’ve been ignoring you all because you yelled at me?” you repeated yourself as you began to cry thinking about the real reason.
you pointed your finger roughly to his chest, “don’t act fucking ignorant. you know what the hell you di-,” you cried so hard you couldn’t even get your words out.
elvis’s heart broke into small pieces inside of him, watching the woman he loves fall apart in front of him. tears threatened to fall from his eyes as his hands started to shake.
elvis tried to wrap his arms around you but you tried your hardest to push him away.
“calm down, darlin’,” elvis stayed calm as you tried to shove him away. you tried your best to get away from him for over a minute but you broke down. all the energy left your body.
“no, no, no!” you whaled as you finally gave up struggling to push his stronger arms away.
your body fell limp into his arms as you began to sink to the ground, elvis holding you the whole way down, dropping the bouquet of flowers on the floor.
elvis’s back slid down the door, bringing you with him.
you let out whimpers as you gently landed on the floor, elvis wrapped his arms even tighter around you as you cried into his chest.
you cried and cried and cried, elvis ran his large hand up and down your back because he knew that was one of the only ways to calm you down.
“you’re okay,” elvis cooed, your crying starting to subside after a few minutes of elvis comforting you.
“when you’re ready, i’m gon’ need you to sit up and look at me. i’m gon’ need you to tell me what i’ve done to make you so upset. i’m not gon’ raise my voice, in fact, i won’t say a word until you want me to. okay, doll?” elvis whispered, hearing your soft sobs eventually go away.
you let a few minutes of silence go by because your head was pounding from crying so hard. you could feel the snot and tears spread all over your face, you almost felt ashamed to pull your head away from his chest, but you had to.
you slowly disconnected your head away from him, elvis looking down to see the mess on your face. you didn’t make eye contact with him as he took the sleeve of his sweater and wiped your face off.
elvis didn’t give a damn about the mess on his sleeve at this point, the only thing he cared about was you and what he had supposedly done to you to make you hurt so much.
you readjusted yourself, sitting in front of him with your legs crossed. your feet brushed his shoes because you were sitting so close to him.
you finally got the confidence to look away from the flowers that laid on the floor and up at him, he was already staring at you waiting for you to explain.
“whenever you’re ready, baby,” elvis whispered, placing a hand on your knee.
you squeezed your eyes shut, thinking about what you were about to say. you had to try your hardest not to start crying again as you said to him, “at the show the other night…” you dragged on, scared to say the next sentences, “these girls that were sitting behind me were talking about you and um… some girl that you were supposedly seeing.”
you paused as elvis gave you a blank expression but you went on, “they said you were seeing a girl. i didn’t mean to eavesdrop but i did. said that it was maybe an actress that you had been spotted with downtown.”
you looked down to your lap because you couldn’t take his blank stare anymore. “i just got to thinking and you’ve always agreed with colonel about keeping our relationship private. i thought maybe you kept us private so you could see other women. that had me all in my head as well. so all i’ve been thinking about is you with another woman. you kissing her, touching her, fucking her…” you stopped at that because tears began to drop from your eyes into your lap.
“darlin’… i- are ya fuckin’ stupid?” elvis chuckled as your head snapped up into his direction.
a look of relief was on his face while your jaw was on the ground, shocked at his response.
“elvis… i- excuse me?” you said, defensively. you were about to snap on him. what the hell is funny about this conversation?
elvis continued to laugh as you slapped his arm as hard as you could which made him stop laughing.
“y/n y/m/n y/l/n, i love you to death but you sure ain’t the brightest bulb in the box,” elvis shook his head as he smiled.
you were speechless and confused.
“baby, they were talkin’ bout you,” elvis said as your jaw dropped even farther open.
“are you being serious right now? because… i- how do you know that?” you asked as a permanent smile stayed on elvis’s lips.
“honey, i ain’t been downtown with a woman besides you or my mama. never in my life, have i even thought about being with another woman while i’ve been with you. y/n, you’re all i see.”
you felt so stupid, you really did. you spent the rest of the conversation on the floor wanting to punch yourself for thinking elvis would do that to you.
although elvis thought it was funny, he also reassured you that you never had to worry about that, never.
after a few minutes of him talking you down, he finally stood up and reached his hand towards you to pull you up.
“i’m so sorry, elvis,” you apologized for the tenth time.
elvis shook his head, he had already told you to stop saying sorry.
you looked down, seeing the bouquet of flowers that still lied on the floor.
“the flowers are lovely… thank you,” you giggled as you leaned down to pick them up.
elvis came closer to you, the only thing between you being the flowers you held in your hands. elvis leaned down and placed a kiss on your lips which you smiled into.
elvis pulled away, noticing the flowers were what was keeping him from not pressing up to your body fully, “fuck the flowers,” elvis chuckled as he took them from your hands and threw them back onto the floor.
his lips returned to yours as you tried your best not to laugh but you couldn’t hold it in. elvis started to chuckle again, resting his forehead on yours.
“i am so in love with you, elvis presley,” you smiled, bringing your hands up to cup his cheeks.
“and i’m even more in love you, y/n y/l/n.”

pairing: Joel Miller x f!reader
Word Count : 2.1k
content: Joel giving you life advice and assurance, him being your comfort.
A/N: It's been a hella long time, this may be a little too personal of a story but I have had a rough few months. And this was a little fic i wrote to comfort myself with my fav comfort character. Finally decided to post this in hopes that it may help someone ahaha.
Tumblr media
“Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Ellie grew up pre-outbreak?” Joel’s eyebrows raised in curiosity. “Why the sudden deep question?” He questioned you back as he sipped on the steaming hot cup of coffee in his hand. You shrug, “Just a thought.”
Joel and you sat on his front porch, just watching the sunset over the horizon, a beautiful backdrop for Jackson’s village. He ponders your question for a while before sitting up in his chair, “You mean if she didn’t grow up during the outbreak, but before, when we didn’t have to worry about the infected?” He clarifies. You nod as you stare off into the distance, watching the various villagers go about their days. “I mean, she’s 18 this year. If life was normal she would probably be going off for college this year. Not- not going out for patrols and helping out around town, or even fighting for her life every time she’s out of Jackson.” You continue adding on. Joel hums, “College huh?” He lets out a small laugh at the thought of an education system. It had been too long since he had last heard about any form of education. “Mmm, she would probably be going off for college, like every other teenager back then, where she would figure out her life from there.” Joel hums as he imagines what it would be like in an alternate universe.
“Do you think she would be happier than now? If let’s say she had the chance to go to a college instead of fighting for her life.” You ask again. Joel places his mug down on the table separating the both of you. “Probably, I mean I never went to college properly but it would probably be better than fighting for your life.” You look at him as he answers, “You really think so?” Joel’s eyes widened and he let out another laugh, “Come on, who in their right mind would prefer our life now to back then?” You simply smile and laugh a little. “We only think that way because we had them to compare to, Ellie only knows life throughout the outbreak, she’s been fighting since she’s young, learning how to defend herself and survive. Even now at 18, she’s been doing the same things as she did since young, it’s a form of normalcy for her.” Joel turns his body to face you, “What’s your point exactly?” He asked, not quite understanding where you’re coming from. You meet his eye for a few moments, trying to search for the right words to voice your opinions.
“Becoming 18 was the scariest part of my life, and arguably the hardest part of my life too. That’s saying a lot since I literally survived 20 years in a stupid zombie apocalypse.” You laugh, and Joel gives you a judgemental look, he can list down a list of worse periods of his life compared to turning 18.
“Becoming 18 brought about so many changes in my life, I had to prepare myself for college, choosing a major, being in a completely new environment, new friends. I just felt so pressured and overwhelmed with everything. However for Ellie, ironically enough, she’s in a more stable environment than she has ever been. Jackson is the safest it gets around here, she can live a semblance of a normal life here, hanging out with friends, indulging in her hobbies, and doing typical teenage things. For someone go fought for their survival everyday, Jackson is practically a safe haven. Personally, I know 18-year-old me would have done anything for some semblance of stability back then.”
Joel just stares at you for a moment, he clears his throat upon noticing that you seemed to be getting a little emotional just thinking about it. “My life changed when I was 20, 18 wasn’t bad for me, I knew I wanted to be a musician so a music degree was the way to go but I had to drop out when Sarah’s mum got pregnant with her. I worked tirelessly to afford a wedding and eventually, our life together with Sarah, balancing college on top of multiple jobs would have killed me.” He shares with you, looking away as he realizes you’re trying to subtly wipe the tears that are forming in your eyes. “One moment I was a college student and then suddenly I was thrown out to the adulting world without any prior warnings, forced to adapt and overcome. Plus the pressure from both sides of the family regarding the pregnancy, fuck I thought I was gonna lose my mind.” Joel continues. “As much as I say that, it taught me to appreciate the small things in life, sure i have my regrets but seeing Sarah.. having Sarah turned out to be the biggest blessing of my life. No matter how much life hated me, it was easier every day when I see Sarah, she was the light in my world. It made all the shittty things I went through worth it.” He says confidently, you can see the pride shining in his eyes at the thought of Sarah. Your hands reach over to give his hand a little encouraging squeeze. Joel used to have trouble even talking about Sarah, but he had came a long way since then.
“I’m sorry I went on about my grandfather's story, it’s your turn.”Joel chuckles, he picks up his mug to take another sip of his coffee, you had always been a cheerful person, he was curious about how your life was at 18 for you to tear up just thinking about it.
You sat there silently for a few moments, then you inhaled deeply, trying to muster the courage to tell Joel. You never had the opportunity to share what you went through prior to this conversation with Joel.
“I didn’t have life as tough as you but I don’t know, I just felt so lost you know? I didn’t know what to do with my life.” You started, your body tensing up just at the memory of it. “I was so afraid of suffering in my chosen major if I ended up not liking it. I didn’t want to waste my time studying something I didn’t like. Then I spiraled and thought that if I chose the wrong major I would be condemned to a job or industry I hated. I couldn’t bear spending my time on a job that I didn’t like. I just felt so doomed and trapped at that point in time, I was so lost, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.” Your words started to leave your lips at a faster pace, just the memory of it evoked some overwhelming emotions inside you. Joel moved the table separating the both of you immediately and shifted his seat right next to you. He revealed his bare palm to you, a soft invitation for comfort. You placed your hand in his immediately, letting out a sigh of relief when he held your hand tightly, giving your hand a few squeezes to ground you. “It’s okay, you’re fine now.” He murmurs softly. Silence fell over the two of you as you took a few steadying breaths and he patiently waited.
“You didn’t talk to anyone about this? About how lost you were?” Joel questioned, a worried look on his face. His hand still holding yours. You shook your head, “Not in detail anyway, I tried asking in general. My dad caught hints of how I felt, he just kept telling me about how it's normal to feel lost and that I’ll figure it out along the way, but I just couldn’t shake the feeling of anxiety.” Joel’s eyebrows furrowed, this made him wonder if Ellie or Sarah had ever felt anxious before and he had just never caught on. “I started spacing out a lot, I couldn’t remain in silence because if there wasn’t something to occupy my mind, it would go back to overthinking about the future. I knew I wasn’t in a good place, but I felt my feelings were invalid since there were people out there in worse situations than me. So, I- I just smiled a little bigger and laughed a little louder, trying to mask how I felt inside.” Joel lets out a breath at that, “No one should ever feel like their feelings are valid. Just because you’re in a better situation doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve to feel that way. The feelings and pain you went through still affected you and hurt you, it was real.” Joel says firmly, a determined look in his eye. He firmly believed in that statement. You gave him a soft smile, “I just wished young me knew that, but knowing my stubborn ass, I would have continued to spiral anyways.”
Joel stretches his legs, letting out a grunt as he does so. “Have you ever thought of taking a gap year? To figure out what you wanted?” He suggested. “Thought about it, my dad didn’t like the idea of me wasting a year, he said the longer I waited the value of my grades loses and it would be even harder for me to get into college.” You answered. Joel let out a scoff, “It’s not a waste, it's better than you impulsively choosing a major and then regretting it for the rest of your life or even possibly destroying your mental health more trying to do well in something you found no joy in.” Yion shrugs, “At that point of time, I didn’t even want to commit myself to further studies, knowing me, I would have just settled for any job as long as it was stable even if it wasn’t the best choice financially for the long term.”
“There is no such thing as a stable job, every job has its own pros and cons. What matters is the fulfillment you get from it.” Joel answers. He would know, everyone around him didn’t like the idea of him becoming a musician because it took a stroke of luck to even do decently well and stand out in the industry but Joel knew for a fact that he wouldn’t enjoy anything else as much as he would being able to perform for people. It was the whole reason why he went ahead with his music degree. He would never know if it would turn out to be a choice he regretted since he had to drop out to support his family but until now, having the opportunity to study music was one of the best decisions he made. You sigh, “Well I felt like I had tunnel vision. I just saw myself on a path that led nowhere. Maybe I was in a bad place altogether too.” Joel hums in understanding. “You made it this far, even pulled through a whole apocalypse. Can’t say many people did the same. For someone who claimed they’re weak, you did make it 20 years in surviving an apocalypse. You laugh at the irony of it all, “Hm, turns out I did better when there weren’t many options. The only way to survive was to live, I didn’t have any other path to walk. The world narrowed it down for me.” Joel smirked, “Oh, how kind of them.” He replied sarcastically.
“So, do you think Ellie would be happier going off for college?” You asked again, linking back to the original question. Joel smiles, his eyes twinkling as the tangerine sunlight highlighted his features. “She would be happy as long as she finds the most suitable pacing for herself to move through life,” Joel concludes. “Life only seems fast-paced because everyone else moves at a fast pace but that doesn’t mean everyone can keep up. Determine your own pace and progress through at your own pace. It’s the only way you won’t feel stressed and pressured which tend to equate to you being content.”
Joel finishes his coffee. “Feeling lost is normal, it usually happens when you think you’re left behind and everyone is moving tenfolds faster than you. However, life was never meant to be some race to be the fastest, you could always set your own pace and continue moving forward. Being slower is better than pushing yourself past your limits and ruining yourself in the process.”
You look at him with admiration. Then you cleared your throat and laughed a little to lighten the tension. “Joel, that was really wise.” He looks over to you as he clears his throat too, trying to hide a small hint of a blush. “Heh, must be the old age catching up.” He murmurs.
You stare onward, looking at Joel and then to the various villagers of all ages living their lives in Jackson. You smile subconsciously.
Everything does work out in the end.

Don't Let Go
Between the Bones (Leon x GN! Reader) - Chapter 36
You get some unexpected support, and you and Leon come to an understanding that neither of you likes.

Tumblr media
They had the day off, but the first thing that everyone wanted was answers.
To his credit, Krauser took the time to answer them all as best he could.
“Why didn’t you warn us?”
“I didn’t know.”
“Do they have the authority to even do that?”
“. . . Yes.”
“What are they so afraid of us blabbing about?”
“You’ll be learning that in the coming weeks.”
“Are those assholes really going to be staying?”
“Yes.”
Leon stood in the back as the rest of the squad learned what he already knew: what they’d suffered for. What some of them were being sent home for. No one was happy with the answers given, but most understood. Leon understood. The reasoning, at least. Not the practice. Not the torture. He would never understand that.
Nor would he understand the answer to the question Valeria hissed out, one that had been eating away at Leon, too. The one thing he wasn’t reasonably sure of, on Krauser’s end regarding the whole experience.
“They had our letters,” she said, her foot tapping against the floor beneath where she sat on her bunk. “From months back.”
Leon watched shadow overtake Krauser’s eyes, that crease between his brows deepening.
“Hadn’t heard from my mom. Is it because they held those letters from us?”
Krauser nodded once, his gaze unwavering even if it was full of regret. “Yes.”
“And you knew?” Valeria pressed, hurt evident in her features.
Another pause, before Krauser nodded. “Yes. STRATCOM procedure. No communication with the world outside during training.”
“So any letters we sent home . . .”
“. . . Were never sent.”
Top-secret shit, even before the bioweapons were brought into play.
Not that it made the pill any easier to swallow.
Still, the Major didn’t try to shift the blame off of himself, even as Valeria fixed him in a scalding glare. If looks could kill, Jack Krauser would be a pile of ash on the ground. “That’s bullshit,” Valeria snapped. “Sir.”
“Watch that tone, Soto,” Krauser met her, steel for steel. Leon had seen the man make soldiers give him fifty push-ups for mouthing off . . . but he’d also seen him allow Leon to speak his mind. He’d seen the Major listen to Leon’s own concerns, even if the Major seemed to like quite literally everyone else better than him. So, even if he barked at Valeria now, Leon wasn’t surprised when a moment later, the Major just gave her an apologetic look. There were a lot of those that he gave that morning, until there were no more questions.
None that anyone was brave enough to ask, anyway.
Their personal effects were passed back out to them - the ones that had been abandoned in the Humvees when Reed and Hellman had taken the squad. Three days ago. Three days and a lifetime, it felt like.
Just like how Raccoon City felt like a lifetime in one night.
Pain had a way of doing that, didn’t it? Warping the world. A day became forever, forever became attached to the idea of something terrible. A cage with no bars. He wondered how long he and the rest would be stuck in that cage? How long the bruises would take to heal, how often, like last night, someone would hear movement in the barracks and jolt awake, expecting a blow for having fallen asleep . . .
Everyone was still so quiet as they unloaded their freshly returned packs. Hard not to be when Andersen and the other three who had failed were there, not bothering to join in the unpacking. What was the point if they were going to be gone by tomorrow anyway?
As for the rest, the day was theirs to do with as they pleased, and no one had any idea how to spend that free time.
Not until heavy footfalls against the floor made Leon and those around him - Alenko, Williams and Valeria - look up, and they found the Major standing there, his hands behind his back. He looked at each of them, gaze sweeping from right to left before landing on Leon and hardening. Sharpening. Leon was sure then that he was about to hear a speech about his failure. About how he’d broken and the only reason that he and Valeria were being allowed to stay were because of Krauser’s own intervention. Or maybe that this entire thing was because of a request that Leon made. He could think of no other reason for the loathing in that stare.
Instead, the Major looked back at the group as a whole. “Heard you had some trouble back at Fort Benning,” he said, and Leon’s brow furrowed. So the conversation wasn’t going to be about the beatings taken in those cells, but rather the one that he and the others had taken in defense of one another. “Got a call from Commander Cortez a few days back. Said you got into a fight. That you put twelve of his men in the hospital. That true?”
That, too, seemed like a lifetime ago. Alenko was the one to nod and answer Krauser’s question. “Yes, sir.” He frowned as he spoke, the expression tugging at the splotches of blue and purple on his face.
Krauser nodded once, his face set in stone.
“Good,” he finally said, and Leon recognized veiled pride in his eyes. “Make sure you don’t end up in the hospital too, next time.”
It was one of the few orders that Major Krauser had given in his time here that Leon agreed with.
Of course, when the Major unclasped his hands and tossed what he’d been holding onto the bunk nearest him, Leon felt an entirely different wave of emotion sweep through him. The little radio rolled onto its back as it landed amidst the scratchy blankets, leaving a flash of recognition to cross Williams’ and Alenko’s faces as they saw it. The same radio that had been in Cortez’s office. The same one you’d somehow stolen for them, that you’d all been listening to on the ride home before everything went wrong.
Krauser was giving it back to them.
“And don’t make a habit of stealing from your Commanding Officers.”
Leon might have laughed, under different circumstances.
Instead, he found himself even more surprised as Krauser went on, this time looking towards Valeria. “Your letters,” he began, “they were from your mother?” Hellman must have told him, then. Or maybe Krauser had read the letters himself, after the fact. Leon hoped that wasn’t the case. He hoped he hadn’t read through Sherry’s letters before Leon even had the chance to. Still, he knew enough about the contents to ask.
Valeria’s mouth twitched down, and she nodded once in response, stiff and all too plainly upset.
Krauser nodded too, and again Leon saw conflict in the Major’s face. Whatever combat his thoughts were doing, though, it was over quickly. “I’ll do what I can to get you clearance to write home. All of you.”
That was all Krauser said . . . but just before he turned away, his eyes found Leon again. Fixed on him like crosshairs. The words spoken were all that were said, but Leon could see that Krauser had more to say. Something lurking just beneath the surface, unformed but sharp. Leon only glimpsed it for a moment, but it was there all the same. Leon almost didn’t care if the Major was angry, now though. Because even if he didn’t have a home to write to, really, he could write to Sherry.
He might be able to tell her he was sorry for not answering her letters. To tell her he was okay, to make sure that she was alright too.
So, whatever was behind the sharp look that he received now, Leon just met that sharpness with gratitude. He didn’t get much but a moment of that gaze losing its edge. Just a second or two, and then the moment was gone, and so was Major Krauser, moving down the rows of bunks. He hesitated as he neared Andersen, the older soldier sitting on the edge of his bunk, looking shell-shocked.
Krauser looked down at him, his jaw tensing as he reached out a hand, patting the other man on the shoulder.
Then, lifting his chin, he left the barracks.
More silence followed, until at last, Williams spoke up. “Looks like Sarge was right about him being proud,” she muttered, watching as he stepped through the door.
There was no doubt in Leon’s mind. Jack Krauser was an asshole. He had a sadistic streak. He liked to push people and he would never apologize for doing it. All of that was still true.
But maybe you’d been right about more than just Krauser being proud of you all.
“Do you buy it?” Alenko asked, looking over at Leon. “That he didn’t know about Reed and Hellman?” He didn’t sound overly skeptical. Just like he wanted to be sure. That he needed that one last opinion that reinforced his own.
You had faith in the Major. Leon had criticized you for that, once.
Now he understood it better.
“He’s telling the truth,” Leon nodded, and he could have sworn he felt hell freeze over because he was defending Krauser of all people. “You saw how he reacted to . . .” to your injury. Leon had seen it up close and personal. The shock that mutated into rage. Rage enough to make Krauser nearly do something stupid.
“Yeah,” Alenko conceded, knowing well enough what Leon was referring to. They’d all seen the concern the Major had for you. The regret he’d hidden poorly as he answered the questions today. He had not meant you all to come to harm. Not like that.
Didn’t change the fact that you were still going to be hospitalized for who-knew-how-long.
“Never seen him worried like that,” Williams nodded, shaking her head.
“Never seen Sarge hurting like that either,” Alenko said, and tensed when he felt Valeria’s gaze turn on him. She was still feeling guilty, Leon could see it. Alenko could too, shutting his mouth when he realized he’d just reminded Valeria of what she’d inadvertently caused.
Because Reed and Hellman had asked about the two of you specifically. That’s what Valeria had said last night, and those words had Leon on edge. That’s what made him worry even now that there was danger, even now that they were all free of those cells.
You’d told him last night that you couldn’t risk him being there, and you hadn’t known how right you’d been.
The two of you had been obvious with your care for one another. So, even if she’d given up information about you two being close, Leon didn’t blame Valeria for what happened. Even if it was clear that she blamed herself.
Maybe that was why, after a moment, she reached for the radio that Krauser had left on the cot in front of her, and stood. “Come on then,” she said to the group, and her voice had more resolve in it than Leon had heard in a long while.
“Where are you-”
“We weren’t the ones that stole the radio, right? And Sarge is gonna get a lot more use out of it than we are.”
It was a day for looking past old angers, Leon found. He hadn’t liked Valeria much before the trip to Fort Benning. That had changed steadily while there. Now, though, as she marched off in an effort to try and alleviate your loneliness, whether to lessen her guilt or because she genuinely cared for you, Leon didn’t care. What mattered was the effort. It mattered that someone besides him cared enough to think of that before he could even voice it.
And Leon, for the first time in the last few days, smiled. He didn’t hesitate as he stood alongside her, following her as she moved towards the door. It didn’t take long before Williams and Alenko were following along, too.
⧫⧫⧫
As soon as you heard the knock on the door, you steeled yourself.
You weren’t sure how you were going to tell Leon. Distancing yourself had been the first instinct. You were good at that. It would be easy. Well, not easy, but doable. You’d done it once before, after all.
It had left you feeling like shit, and it hadn’t solved anything.
You’d both promised to talk about what you were feeling. It was a promise you regretted now that it made things more difficult, but you wanted to honor it. You owed him that much. So, you’d torn your mind apart all morning trying to put together the right words.
Krauser knows-
Reed and Hellman will be watching-
We can’t-
All of them seemed like bullshit, even if the concerns Krauser had raised were valid. Real. Just as the happiness that Leon Kennedy brought you was real, too. The most real thing you’d felt in months, besides that old and aching pain that you could never be rid of. Pain that was dulled and, sometimes, forgotten around the man you’d come to care for so much. The man you’d watched grow into a stronger person, inside and out. The man you would take a thousand hits for.
You couldn’t just let that go.
So when you heard that knock, you weren’t sure what the hell you were supposed to do because Leon wouldn’t want to end this. Not now. And neither did you.
The door opened and you found yourself speaking on instinct alone. “You shouldn’t be in here,” you repeated the words from the night before, not looking up from that spot on the floor you’d chosen as yours.
And then you regretted not looking up as soon as you heard a smoky but strained voice reply. “Nice to see you too.”
Your head snapped up and you pushed yourself up from bed, thanking the pain meds in your system for allowing the movement. Valeria didn’t wait to be invited in. Neither did any of the three people following her. Alenko and Williams gave you gentle, apologetic smiles as they followed the shorter woman in, and you felt your heart splinter because you’d thought to spend this day alone, like the last time. You thought you’d have to push Leon away the moment he stepped through the door, just for the sake of keeping up appearances.
Instead, you found yourself looking at your squad mates with wide eyes.
And when Leon did walk through the door, you felt that splintered heart break apart when he smiled at you.
“Hey,” he greeted, and you knew this conversation was going to hurt. Both of you.
But what conversation was it going to shape up to become?
You didn’t know, and, as you looked at the four visitors in front of you, you decided that maybe you didn’t want to know, either.
“Hey,” you said. “What are you all-”
“We got the day off,” Valeria answered. “Figured you could use the company.”
“If you wanted it,” Leon added, giving you an understanding look.
You’d been alone during your recovery from Finland. Krauser had checked in on you when he could, but he had a life and duties to attend to. The nurses that pitied you had made for shitty companions. Not that you’d wanted anyone, anyway. Solitude. That had been your companion and your shield. You’d thought just Leon had the ability to break down that barricade around you.
You’d been wrong.
It wasn’t quite a smile that you gave the group as you nodded, but it was close enough. “Okay.”
That surprise and that slight smile only grew as Valeria held out her arm and presented you with none other than the little radio you’d stolen from Cortez’s office. “Think you’re missing this, too.”
You weren’t sure what to think as you took the radio from her. Valeria seldom did anything without cause. What was her reasoning for this? For being, well, downright kind to you? You didn’t know, and, honestly? In that moment, when you had been so sure you’d been condemned to isolation in every possible way, you decided that you didn’t care, either.
So, you settled the radio between your hands, fighting back the new kind of pain in your chest. One not born of your cracked ribs or the fear that Krauser’s words had instilled in you.
This pain was sweeter. One you hadn’t felt in a long, long time.
“Thank you,” you murmured, looking from Valeria, to Leon, and then the rest.
Valeria just shrugged. “You’re no fun when you’re miserable. So pick a station and let’s fucking relax for once.”
You couldn’t really argue with that, so you flipped switches and dials until you heard a synth beat and vocals you hadn’t heard in so long. A song from another life.
“. . . there’s no turning back.”
“Even while we sleep . . .”
“Shit,” Alenko smiled wide as he took a seat a ways away from the bed you sat in. “I love this song!”
Williams just nodded, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning against the wall. “Least it’s not the Spice Girls,” she mumbled over her split lip before she looked over at the rest of you who, back in the Humvee, had made her sit through one of their songs. It seemed her opinion of them hadn’t improved. “Respectfully, they’re shit.” The near-apology was delivered with a near-smile to match.
“Well, Williams,” you found yourself saying, even if your words were muted by the ordeal you’d just been through. Still, there was something familiar there. Something you’d rediscovered at Fort Benning, and were glad to find at your fingertips now; humor. That was what ever-so-slightly colored your words as you told Williams, “ respectfully, go fuck yourself.”
An Army brat like you, Williams just smirked right back.
“Help me make the-”
“Most of freedom and of pleasure-”
“Nothing ever lasts forever . . .”
It made it easier, having them there. There weren’t many words, but there didn’t need to be. You all just listened to the song as it played, finding a comfortable state of quiet between each other. Valeria moved to lean against the wall by Williams’ side. Leon . . . you could tell he wanted to move closer to you. You wanted that too. You wanted it to be just the two of you, like in the hospital in Fort Benning, but Krauser’s warning hung over your head.
“There’s a room where the light won’t find you-”
“Holding hands as the walls come tumbling down-”
“When they do, I’ll be right behind you . . .”
Being alone with him was dangerous, more so now than it ever had been. That didn’t change simply because you wanted his presence or company. Your desire for him wouldn’t be pitied in a court martial. Not if Reed and Hellman were already looking at you like an infected limb that needed to be cut away.
You needed to heal, and Leon needed to finish this training. You both did. You’d just never thought it would be apart.
“So glad we almost made it . . .”
So . . . you would be alone with him one more time. At least for a while.
“So sad they had to fade it . . .”
You hoped he would understand that this was for the best, for now.
The song eventually finished and you looked up to meet his eyes. You’d learned to speak without words to each other, now. So many stolen glances and nights spent side by side, in training or with him pressed up against the wall of the mess hall, you had a language all your own. Insight into each other’s thoughts. And as you looked into those ocean blues, you saw your own thoughts reflected back at you.
There was a talk to be had, and both of you knew it.
⧫⧫⧫
The day went on and eventually the others left. Alenko was first, saying he was going to go in search of food. Had to be desperate, to want what the mess hall served, but Leon didn’t begrudge him. The hunger of those three days had left them all empty just as much as the rest of the experience had.
Williams went next, saying she needed to move, to make up for those days spent in captivity. Valeria didn’t take much convincing when asked to join her.
Leon almost told them to be careful. To not let the agents see them.
To not end up in the predicament that the two of you were in.
A situation that became clear and present, once the two of you were left alone, the radio playing on.
“How are you feeling?” He knew what the answer would be, but he asked anyway.
“They gave me pain meds,” you shrugged as best you could, “so not that bad right now.”
At least there was that. Even if you shouldn’t have had to be in the infirmary in the first place. “Have they told you how long you’ll be on bed rest?” Leon asked, because he didn’t want to have the other conversation. Not yet.
The mirth that had been present on your face, however muted, faded. “It was a six week recovery last time. For the bones.”
“Six?” The number sounded so much worse than what Leon had imagined. He remembered his own long recovery from the gunshot wound he’d suffered in Raccoon City. It had seemed long then, but he hadn’t been kept from anything. It hadn’t stopped him from living his life. Not that he’d done much living after that night anyway. Still, he couldn’t imagine what this was like to you, because it would be six weeks without physical training. Six weeks without sparring, without being able to clear your head in the way Leon knew you would need. Six weeks of what would be hell to you.
And if you couldn’t train for combat like the rest of them . . . would you be able to graduate with the rest? With him?
“You need to keep practicing,” you told him, and by the stiffness of your words, Leon could tell that you were thinking of exactly what he was thinking of. It sounded like you were telling him to go on without you. “Train with the others, but ask Krauser to spar too. He’s the best. He’ll kick your ass, but he’ll make you better.”
“You say that like you’re not gonna-”
“I’m not gonna be able to spar with you, Leon. Not for a while. I’m not gonna be there. You can’t let yourself fall behind with me.”
The words, while well intentioned, were painful to hear aloud. True, but painful because after months of training with you, he couldn’t imagine not being by your side. He didn’t want to have to train for hell on earth and not know that you would be there to face it with him.
But you were right.
As unfair as it was, as completely and utterly shitty, you were right.
“Okay,” he nodded. “But then when you’re better, we’ll catch you back up.” Because he knew you would need it. He knew you’d want it, too. That after so long letting your body heal, you would want nothing more than to throw yourself back into the swing of things.
The trouble was-
“Leon . . .” you shook your head, and he knew that the conversation he’d dreaded was here. “Krauser knows.”
Just like that, the color drained from his face. You’d never been one to beat around the bush, but those words were like being doused in ice water.
“About . . .”
“Us.”
He felt a pit open up in his stomach that threatened to turn him inside-out, and all he could do was sit on the bed beside you. The jaws were closing in. Had that been the cause of that look from Krauser earlier? Had the Major been looking at him with such disdain because of that?
“. . . Fuck.” It was really all he could say. Why even warn you about Reed and Hellman if the game was already over . . .
“He’s not going to report it.”
. . . or maybe not as over as Leon had thought.
“What?” he blinked, turning to look at you without bothering to hide his confusion. Major Krauser hadn’t exactly been by the books, as far as Leon knew, but he’d been so adamant about respecting the order of things. This whole mess had happened because he’d not wanted to step outside the bounds of red tape. Why the hell hadn’t he reported fraternization?
“Said he doesn’t care. But he also said that Reed and Hellman will.”
Leon nodded, trying to reconcile all the mismatched thoughts and solutions buzzing around his mind.
“So he’s saying he won’t stop us but if we get found out we’re fucked.”
You just nodded, the air growing heavier and heavier with each moment. Because Leon knew where this was going, just as much as you did.
Leon pursed his lips, looking down. “They asked about us during the interrogations,” he finally said. “Reed and Hellman. Valeria told me they were asking.”
It was your turn to frown, he could see it out of the corner of his eyes. He wouldn’t rat Valeria out, but you deserved to know that the agents were onto you, even if Krauser wouldn’t be the one to confirm it.
Why wouldn’t he confirm it?
“Then they’ll be watching.”
Leon nodded once, feeling emptiness beginning to set in. “So what do you want to do?” he asked, dreading the answer because he’d heard the distance in your voice last night, and he could hear it even then. He’d heard it once before, after you’d kissed him that first night and tried to convince yourself and him that it was a mistake.
The difference was that, then, he’d seen that emptiness in your eyes, too. He’d seen you retreating into yourself.
He knew you well enough now to know that the look that he saw in your eyes didn’t match the attempt at distance in your voice. Because, as you turned your gaze up towards him, Leon could see only conflict. Only you, a casualty of the crossfire between what your mind had to be telling you and what your heart wanted. When you answered, that conflict was all the more apparent. “You know what I want. But we have to be smart about this. Because if Krauser knows - and has for months now - then Reed and Hellman will pick up on it too, and they’re already gunning to cut me for this shit,” you gestured down to your ribs, and Leon swore he heard your voice waver.
“They wanted me out, too,” Leon admitted, and he watched some fear seep into your expression. “Krauser convinced them to let me stay.”
And again, Leon found himself wondering why?
“They wanted . . . why?” you asked. Why they’d wanted Leon gone - that’s what you were asking about.
“Because I broke,” he admitted, his voice hushed. Not ashamed, but overwhelmed by other emotions. “When they were hurting you, I had to get them to stop. So I was going to tell them what they wanted to know. Right before Krauser got there.”
You looked at him then, silent, your eyes piercing his own. Searching and seeing straight through him, just as you always had.
You had suffered on account of him. It was the last thing he ever wanted for you, but you’d endured it. You’d taken pain for him, in fights and behind bars, and you’d been taking pain from him for far longer. With your company, with your touch. You’d helped each other learn to walk again. It was what had made him fall in love with you, even if it had been something that happened to him at the end of your knife.
He loved you. So, he made a decision.
“Look,” he went on, turning to face you more, feeling something in him building. A resolve or a desperate hope, he wasn’t sure. “I’ll focus on training. I’ll work with Krauser, I’ll . . . I’ll only visit you with the others, if you think it’ll be less suspicious. But I’m not leaving you here by yourself. I’m not letting go of this. I can’t do that. Not if you don’t want to let go, either.”
He watched you, feeling emotion overtaking him. Bearing down on him, nearly making him shake because it had all been too much. Raccoon City. STRATCOM. All the hurts he’d suffered - that you’d suffered - and the best thing to come from it all had been this. You.
So, his throat constricting, he hoped that you felt the same way.
For a moment, he worried, because you were staring at him like he was something you could never have. He saw the regret in your eyes, the tension in your body, like you were bracing for some great pain. It all faded, though, and the corners of your mouth turned up just a bit. The dark of night graying as the sun tried to appear once more.
It was all the warning he had before your lips were on his, and Leon felt the resolve he’d built up for months, the guard he’d put around himself in that prison, crumble. Emotion and relief flooded him, and his hand shook a bit as he lifted it to your face. It was different from the kisses the two of you had stolen in the shadows. Different than the sweet one he’d given you in the hospital at Fort Benning. This was all longing. Wordless in its declaration. He held you gently, no longer needing to memorize the feel of you but trying to hold on to every detail anyway.
Because he didn’t know when he’d next get the chance to kiss you. Or hold you. Or be with you the way he wanted.
But he wasn’t letting go.
“I don’t want to let go, either,” you told him, your lips against his. “I don’t know when we’ll be able to-”
“Neither do I,” Leon admitted, as the words tore at him. “But . . . we’ll find a way.”
He had to believe that.
He had to believe that this wedge being driven between the two of you wouldn’t change what he felt. And to that end, he would watch. He would find moments of safety for the two of you, he would learn to play the spy game if it meant he could steal a few heartbeats with you. He’d wait for those moments, and he’d wait for you.
However long it took.

‘If he is the sun, i’m Icarus’
Vash X Reader
a/n: I know this isnt my usual Fairy Tail stuff, but I am in love with Vash and have been dying to write for him. Sorry if its a little akward not the best at y/n and what tense to write it in? Still learning! This is just like 800 words of wanting to hold his hand lol Title is a lyric from Apollo by Faith Zapata which just sums up how I feel for him lol.
Tumblr media
Traveling with Vash hardly held dull moments, one moment the two of them were being shot at and chased out of town, or it was getting lost in the middle of the desert. But Vash always seemed to be able to pull you out of these bad situations, even if he was the one that caused them. A kind smile, a soft laugh, and a quiet but sincere apology, and you were hooked all over again. Following him without any regard for your own safety.
The two had been traveling for some time, leaving town before trouble started for once, and out into the sand dunes. You would never understand how Vash handled the heat in that big red coat of his, but his pace never faltered. Even when you slowed down after being too tired to continue walking, he’d slow his pace no questions asked. And the two of you would walk beside each other either talking quietly or enjoying the silence of it all.
You admired his patience, he never complained even when you made him lose pace. Like now you could already feel yourself lagging behind, Vash hasn't said anything yet about it and all you could do is stare at his hand. A part of you just wanted to be brave enough to step forward and take his hand in yours, to walk side by side with him. But the logical part of your brain forced the thought to come to a stop, you couldn't take a risk like that. Force your feelings on to Vash? Be selfish, when Vash himself was so kind to let you travel with him. You would not take advantage of him, not like how so many have before.
“y/n?”
Vash had turned to face you with a questioning look in his gaze, you hadn’t even noticed you stopped walking. “Sorry! I think the heat is just finally getting to me!” your tone was light careless even, and it didn't look like Vash believed you. Smiling once more you rushed forward past him, “Come on now, the sooner we find a place to rest for the night the better!”
Vash joined your side quickly curse his long legs! The two continue to walk quietly beside each other, you kept glancing at his hand, fingers twitching to reach out and hold it. You knew you were being pathetic about the whole thing. Shaking you head, you didn't notice the uneven surface in front of you. Slipping backwards with a yelp, just hoping not to hit your head. Instead of hitting the sandy surface, you landed against something soft but firm, a pair of hands resting on your shoulders one flesh and one metal.
Looking upwards and back, you came face to face with a smiling Vash, “Careful now!” he said with a kind laugh, you relaxed into his hold enjoying it for a moment before pulling away, face heating.
“Are you alright?” Vash asked clearly concerned, while you just shook your head, placing your hands on your face, “I think the heat is finally getting to me.” You would blame the suns in the sky and not the literal ray of sunshine standing before you. Vash let out a huff hands on hips, as he looked around. You watched curiously, placing your hands back at your sides while watching the blonde.
“I think there might be a town around we could stop at and get some rest, and you out of the heat.” Vash said turning in a completely random direction and heading off, you could only watch with an eye roll as you followed after him coming to rest at his right side, you would never understand his sense of direction yet you always followed without much complaint.
Your mind began to wander once again, eyes drifting to his hand. Shaking you head and slapping your hands to your face you really needed to get yourself together! Jumping in surprise when Vash grabbed your wrist and brought it down to your side to rest in between them, he looked at you curiously.
“Uh the heat?” your voice unsure, hoping it would be a good enough explanation, “Right…” Vash teased releasing your wrist only to grab you hand and intertwine your fingers with his. Your eyes widen while Vash brought your intertwine hands up, between the two of you so they were at eye level.
“A perfect fit don’t you think?” His voice was gentle, you could detect some insecurity in it while he stared at you then your combined hands. You let out a soft laugh, looks like you weren’t the only one that wanted to hold hands. Bringing their hands back down, you leaned into his side smiling.
“Like it was meant to be.” You were rewarded with a genuine smile and a light squeeze of your hand as Vash pulled you along. You knew truly in this moment you would follow Vash the Stampede to the ends of No Man’s Land and back if it meant seeing him smile and him holding you hand.
You squeezed his hand back, holding on tightly. You didn’t care where you ended up as long as it was by his side.

Amaryllis Epilogue
Pairing: Frankie x f!Reader
Word Count: 1.8K
Warnings: Fluff, fluff, fluffy-fluff, reflection- (of more than one sort? I’m on one today. Don’t mind me lol), happiness, loved ones, we get to meet Reader’s momma! (Her English isn’t great so we will see her and Reader speaking Spanish) tiny sliver of angst? Lemme know if I forgot anything!
Summary: Just before your lives are set to change yet again, you and Frankie each get a moment alone to reflect on how life has brought you to where you are now. Santi saves the day yet again!
A/N: Guys…… This is it! We have officially officially reached the end of this story and I’m a whole mess of emotions. The has been such a labor of love and learning for me. It’s my very first fic and also the very first piece of writing I have ever shared with anyone. As previously mentioned, I have several new WIPs and I cannot WAIT to get to work on them! For everyone who has commented, liked, reblogged, asked questions or shown even the tiniest bit of love for my little story, I just want to thank you with everything I have. I have wanted to write since I was little, but could never put pen to paper until I forced myself to write a little 100 word Drabble, which literally turned into this series. The Pedro fandom alone has literally changed my life in so many ways and I will forever be grateful. So anyways....... Thank you all so much!!!!
Series Masterlist | Main Masterlist
When he sees himself in the mirror, Frankie is all nerves.
Checking and rechecking his hair, making sure his tie isn’t crooked… worrying the little patch in his scruffy beard that refuses to fill in.
His palms are sweating and his stomach is doing flips, but he’s unbelievably HAPPY.
He never thought he would be here. Never thought he would ever want to be doing this, but you had changed his way of thinking in more ways than one.
It had always terrified him to feel as though he were tied to something. Or so he thought…
In reality, he never felt he was worth enough for someone to ever want to be tied to him. The things he had done, the horrors he’d seen? The nightmares he still endured would run off anyone who might be even the slightest bit interested. Damaged…
Valid.
He was damaged. There was no way to come out from that other side and not be. But to those who weren’t there? Ones who could never understand what he’d been through? They would only pity him and he didn’t want that.
He just wanted understanding. Wanted someone to accept him as he was, without trying to fix him.
And then there was you. You never looked at him like he was damaged. You knew about things and yet you never held anything against him. You knew the atrocities he’d seen and those he had committed, yet you never backed away from him or looked down on him.
From the beginning, Frankie felt a connection to you. He didn’t know what you’d been through at the time, but there was an understanding there - “We’re not defined by our experiences Frankie,” you’d tell him.
“We simply learn from our mistakes, grow into better people, and if we are genuine, that’s all that really matters. —You yourself told me something similar at one time, remember?”
Frankie smirks at the memory. Shaking his head, as he gets back to the task at hand.
...
He doesn’t think he can tie it any better, so he takes one final look, takes a deep breath and smiles at himself in the oversized mirror. Just a small half smile, knowing that what he was about to do was going to change his life forever….
And he was ready.
It doesn’t start to sink in until about ten minutes beforehand that you are actually going to marry Frankie today. You’re in the small guest room, waiting for your mother to stop fussing over you already and to let you look in the mirror. “Mija, todo tiene que ser perfecta!” (Everything has to be perfect)
“Mamà, está bien... ¿puedo mirar ahora? Ya casi es hora de irse..." (It’s ok….. can I look now? It’s almost time to go…)” There’s no malice in your tone as your mouth turns up into a silly smile that you just can’t seem to hold back.
“Ah, si mi hermosa luz, creo que estes lista. Ven agora, and a y mira.”(Ah yes my beautiful light, I believe you are ready. Come now, go ahead and look.)
You stand up and slowly walk over to the full length mirror. The look on your face doesn’t at all match the sheer joy you feel in your chest. The initial shock wears off, but the weight of the moment hits you then; You’re marrying Frankie today. This incredible man who barreled his way into your life and decided he wanted to stay.
To see yourself in your mother’s wedding gown and jewelry, knowing that Frankie was waiting for you had your eyes welling up with tears. You silently prayed they stayed put as your mother had fussed with your makeup for a small eternity and Lord help you if you messed it up. So, you forced the tears back, albeit they were happy, joyous, singing to the choir tears that would surely fall once everything was said and done. You were more certain now in this choice, in Frankie, than at any other time in your life..
You gave yourself one final look in the mirror before turning back to your mother. Grabbing her small hands in yours and kissing her forehead, you silently thanked her for everything she had done for you; today and everyday.
“Ok Mija?”
“Si Mamà, Estoy lista.” (Yes, I’m ready.)
The ceremony was modest, with only close family and friends in attendance, but you were blessed beyond reason.
Those in attendance included your mother, who had brought along your Aunt and your two little cousins all the way from Cuba. You hadn’t seen her in ages, and this was the first time you’d gotten the chance to meet the little ones.
Frankie’s Mom and Step-Dad had flown in from Texas along with his older sister, which had been a surprise to the both of you, having never gotten to meet them prior. They welcomed you with nothing but warmth and love. Your previous apprehension at making a good impression, falling away the moment his mother wrapped you in her arms as she introduced herself.
She also took little to no time in latching onto your and soon-to-be Frankie’s son, her Grandson. Who she happily spoiled rotten from the get go and volunteered to be in charge of during the ceremony, giving your own mother a well deserved break as she had been deemed (by herself) as the primary babysitter.
And of course, Santi, Will and Benny were front and center. They would’ve all been groomsmen if you and Frankie had decided to have a wedding party. Instead you both opted for just a simple service. Santi would still supply the rings, but aside from the preacher, it would only be you and Frankie standing at the altar.
It was time.
You took a deep breath in, and let it out slowly as you turned the small corner to make your way to Frankie.
As you slowly made your way down the aisle, you didn’t expect to become breathless at the sight before you.
The expectation was that, the Bride-to-be would walk in and a hush would wash itself throughout the room. All eyes on her as she made her way to alter to join her fiancé.
You were sure your anxiety would rear its ugly head at being the center of attention, and had tried to give yourself a pep talk before walking inside. However, the moment you laid eyes on Frankie, you nearly stopped in your tracks.
You realized at that moment that you had never seen Frankie wear anything remotely resembling dress attire, let alone a suit and tie.
It was always jeans and a t-shirt, jacket when necessary and work boots… always work boots. He looked good on any given day and there had never been an occasion up until that point for him to “dress up.” But, you couldn’t take your eyes off of him…
His hair was still a disheveled mess of curls that you loved to run your fingers through. Not too long, but long enough that the ends would curl behind his ears. He just wouldn’t be Frankie without them, so you were grateful he didn’t try to tame them back. He was also wearing his glasses, which he had been trying to wear more and more these days as he couldn’t stand to wear his contacts after having gone without them for so long.
His tux was your normal coat and pants, but completely white, with a black bowtie and shoes with a shine that could blind a person if they got too close. You don’t think you have ever seen someone so beautiful in your life and he was yours.
You had managed to keep your pace steady all the way to the alter, even though you had half a mind to just run and get yourself there that much faster. Your mother was waiting up front to take your bouquet and give you over to the man you truly wanted to spend your life with. She kissed your cheek before turning to Frankie and offering him your hand. As he took it she wrapped both yours and Frankie’s hands in hers, saying she loved you both and giving a firm squeeze before letting you go and sitting back down at her seat in the front.
Frankie took both of your hands and whispered from under his messy bangs, “Are you ready?”
You couldn’t speak so you just nodded, trying not to cry before the preacher even had a chance to talk.
You tried to concentrate on the words being said, the prayer being read to the audience, but you could only focus on Frankie’s smile and his thumbs rubbing reassuring circles into your hands. You didn’t know why you were so nervous, but ultimately, it didn’t matter. Frankie was sure as stone and after you both repeated your vows and placed the rings on each others’ fingers, Frankie lifted your veil, seeing your lips quirk up into a smile and he kissed you. In front of all of the people who mattered to you the most in this world.
His kiss was equal parts strong and soft with his hand coming to your cheek while the other wrapped around your waist. You didn’t dip, but he held almost all of your weight as he put his entire life into that kiss. Letting you and everyone else know that you were it for him.
When you both came up for air, there was nothing but big smiles and happy tears from everyone around. Benny was hooping and hollering, and even Will had his hand to his mouth letting out a piercing whistle that echoed throughout the church. Santi was clapping along with the others, with an almost forlorn expression that seamlessly slipped back into a playful smile once Benny clapped him on the shoulder, joining in with everyone else in raining congratulations on the happy couple. Frankie took your hand and raised them both entwined up toward the sky as you walked back down the aisle, side by side, as husband and wife. The both of you more than ready to begin this new chapter in your lives.
Together.
Two hours earlier -
“Rings, rings…. Uh, shit!” Santi is looking around frantically, shuffling papers and patting down his pockets, seemingly having misplaced the rings he was in charge of.
“Haha, very funny pendejo…. Now’s really not the time to be fuckin’ around…” Frankie’s voice is playful, but when he looks over at Santi, he sees the panic starting to set in.
“Fuck man, seriously? You had one job… !” Frankie is pacing now alongside Santi as they both desperately search for the missing rings.
“Wait!! Wait, oh! Shit haha, we’re good, we’re good, man. We're fine, everything's fine... I just left them on the kitchen table after I grabbed the mail this morning. I only live like ten minutes away from here, I’ll be right back!”
“Jesus Pope! I about lost my goddamn ass over here man… Shit, just go grab them and come straight back, ok?”
“Alright, alright…. You need anything else while I’m out?”
“For fucks sake Pope! Just go!”
“Yep, yep on it!” At that, Santi runs out the door, leaving Frankie to his thoughts for the moment.
He sits down on the little couch in the sitting area and puts his head in his hands. He’s nervous and he wants this day to go perfectly, but he actually starts to laugh when he thinks about the circumstances.
All of this fuss over rings, when in reality, they were just a symbol. A token to show the world that you were his person, and he was yours. And even if Pope had lost them, it honestly wouldn’t change a thing. He was marrying you today, with or without a ring, and he could hardly wait.
It only takes Santi about eight minutes to get to his place. Possibly breaking a few speed limits to do so, but he did not want to be the cause of something ruining this day for either of you.
He goes inside and sees the ring boxes sitting right there on the table next to the untouched pile of mail. He lets out a deep breath, muttering under his breath, "Thank you, God!" Checking inside each box, making absolutely sure he had everything before putting them safely in his jacket pocket. Picking up the stack of mail, he quickly skims through it out of habit. Finding an envelope in the mix with only his name and address handwritten on the front with no return address.
He carefully opens it, revealing a small slip of folded paper. On the inside is a jumbled set of numbers and symbols…
Ones that he recognizes instantly—
Coordinates.
Coordinates to the money stolen out of the walls of Lorea’s house before it was burned to the ground. Money that was dumped in a ravine to get rid of extra weight that made flying too dangerous. Coordinates that only he, Will, and Benny knew about. Aside from one other person.
Tom.
Tom had found the money.

92 Steddie? 🥹
oooh thank you sunshine!! 🤍 i felt like giving this a different kind of approach, and modified it a little. hope it’s okay :3
92.  “I don’t know how to get it through to you. I’m not going anywhere.”
It starts as a threat.
“I don’t know how to get it through to you, Munson, but I’m not going anywhere. So you either quit sulking and get over the fact that you have to spend time with me while the others are busy with school and work, or—“
“Or what, Harrington?”
“Or you can continue to be a pain in the ass and make this worse for both of us.” Steve crosses his arms in front of his chest and raises a stern eyebrow at him. They’re both tired, Eddie knows, and maybe the constant jabs have gone on for long enough now.
He doesn’t want to hate Harrington. It’s just, the guy unsettles him. The way he never strikes up a conversation, never talks about himself, never takes his eyes off Eddie. He’s hovering, in that quiet but all-encompassing way he has that makes Eddie’s skin crawl.
Man, he doesn’t like the guy.
~*~
It turns into compassion.
Eddie is in pain, his body cramping and writhing as his mind carries him back into the Upside Down. It’s excruciating agony and he just wants the world to disappear, wants all the good things gone so the bad things don’t seem too bad anymore. He wants to swallow the light and cast the world in eternal darkness so he will never have to see his body again, distorted and hurting as it is.
He screams and groans and whines and thinks for a second that maybe he swallowed the world instead and took on all of its pain.
“Eddie.”
There’s a voice, steady like an anchor, but Eddie feels like he’ll rip the ship into the abyss if he clings to the anchor. He rolls away from Steve, pushes and kicks to turn the pain into energy, to turn the flashback into something real, to twist reality just a bit in his favour for once.
“I don’t— I don’t know if you can hear me. How to get it through to you, but… I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
I’m here. I’m here. I’m here.
Like a compass it guides him back. Like breaking the surface of reality, Eddie gasps a heaving breath.
“Just like that, Eddie, breathe for me. Good. I’m not going anywhere. We’ll get you through this.”
Eddie isn’t inclined to believe him, but Harrington does stay. Even when Eddie falls asleep again he’s there, holding his hand in a secure grip. An anchor. And when Eddie wakes, he finds he didn’t tear the ship apart, didn’t sink it, didn’t give the abyss another thing to destroy.
“Not going anywhere,” Steve says, and Eddie does believe him this time. Squeezes his hand.
~*~
Then it’s a confession.
“You know, it’s just… I don’t know, it’s stupid.” Steve shrugs and paces his chin on his knees, looking up at Eddie from where he’s sitting on the floor in front of the couch that has become Eddie’s home for the past few weeks.
“What’s stupid?”
“I feel like, see, I’m not going anywhere. My life, it’s just stagnant. And it’s stupid to feel that way because we literally just saved the world, but… What do you do when you’re done being the hero? What happens when the world needs you to just be a person but you never learned how to do that?”
And Eddie stares a bit. Is that why Steve never talked about himself? Because there’s all this guilt, all this failure of conventional expectations that weigh so heavy on him? Clearly he has given a great deal of thought to this, because there’s resignation lacing his voice, and the questions aren’t exactly casual. Not exactly great conversation starters.
“I don’t think that’s stupid,” he says at last. “Jesus, you all deserved better than what you had coming for you.”
“Says the one who almost died,” Steve retorts, but it’s with a small smile that Eddie feels ridiculously victorious over.
“Hey, I get to be nursed to health by Steve Harrington, don’t think it gets better than that.”
It’s meant to be a joke, but then there’s a blush on Steve’s cheeks and he sort of hides his face in his knees by looking away from Eddie. It’s cute. Ridiculously cute. Eddie finds himself wanting to comfort the boy. Run his fingers through his hair and tell him he’s not stupid. He’s still a hero.
What he does is reaching out a hand for Steve to take — which he does, rather immediately. Eddie tries not to think too hard about that. Steve meets his eyes again and Eddie just holds his hand for a second, watching the tension fall from his shoulders.
It does something with him, knowing that Steve trusts him. Knowing that he can make this happen.
“I’m not going anywhere either. Not for a long time, so, I don’t know. We can be pathetic company and sulk, or something.”
“Or something,” Steve chuckles, before giving him a grateful smile. “That sounds pretty good.”
It does. Or something.
~*~
At last, it’s a promise.
They’re lying on the floor, side by side, because this time it’s Steve who’s having a bad day and Eddie can finally return the favour.
He reaches out and tentatively wraps his fingers around Steve’s, because that’s apparently what they do now. Steve snaps out of whatever void he was stuck in and looks over, almost surprised to see Eddie here. Still here. Because it’s been three hours.
But Eddie just smiles. Steve shifts to look down at their hands, then back up at Eddie, a silent question clear in his eyes.
“Look, I don’t know how to get it through to you, Harrington. But I’m not going anywhere.”
And the little smile that breaks the frown makes Eddie glad that he didn’t swallow the sun, the light, the good things. He smiles back and then Steve shifts closer until their sides are touching and their heads resting together.
Neither of them is going anywhere. They know.

Thank you for letting me ask you questions about your new hades fic. I really really appreciate it. I’ve always loved Greek myth and the paganism religion as a whole, it’s pretty much the only belief that’s felt somewhat natural to me. So, when I saw that you’re writing a hades fic, I think I pretty much shit myself in excitement. Lately I’ve been a really soft cod girl and frankly it’s leached into my other fandoms and I’m not 100% why it did but I’ve been having issues with myself where if I read a Fic and I can’t tell if they love each other or not I literally cannot stop thinking about it. Last time with dramione I think I only slept 2 -3 hours a night when I couldn’t get it out of my head. (I’m autistic, I promise I’m working on it. Fml)
I would like to apologise if any of my questions come off rude as that’s definitely not my intention.
One of the tags is bad bdsm etiquette and I was wondering if you can share if they are doing it ‘bad’ on purpose or is it more of a they will learn along the way type of thing? It’s obvious that she likes pain but that can always be done correctly (is that the right word?) and not badly? Or do they not realise they are doing it badly and will learn to still give pain but better?
(I think I’ve confused myself!)
Another question I had is if you think they truly love her and will see her as their equal as a wife? Or will it always be them and then + her?
If you can share , I’d love to know your thoughts and feelings. Thank you again for letting me ask questions.
Have a good day/night. ♥️♥️
Hi! This didn't come off as rude at all, don't worry! I'm happy to answer your first question, but I can't answer your second question because it's plot relevant and I don't do spoilers for my own fics. I'm sorry! I hope you understand.
Bad BDSM etiquette: At the club, Aselgeia, it's inferred that Simon is engaging in non consensual voyeurism.
John infers it here:
“We’ll decide what ye can take, when we get there.”
And then Simon appears here: “Beautifully done, darling.” Somewhere far, far away, in the last sliver of your sane mind, you realize it’s a different voice, a voice echoed in gemstones, ruby and emerald and pearl, before that too, slips into space, and you drift deeper inside the luxurious praise. A warm bath. A sunlit meadow with thousands of Narcissus dotting the hill, soaking up every ray. A golden fawn, taking her first steps to freedom.
And then John confirms it here, using we again:
“We need a yes.” He murmurs, cupping your cheek. “Persephone.”
which is terrible BDSM etiquette considering it was never negotiated or discussed. Bringing in a third without permission is a no no, for obvious reason, and they use subspace to essentially trick her into saying yes. Persephone craves pain, so giving it to her is not bad etiquette.
After that, everything goes downhill in second spanking/smut scene because proper BDSM etiquette is abandoned.
I felt like it was important to tag due to the nature of the initial scene, being in a club and what not.

How do you think Prince sidon would deal with having a crush on a Hylian and he gave them a romantic gesture of protection. Crush does not realise this. Nobody told them. They thought it was because theyre friends and didnt know this was a part of Zora culture. They end up splitting apart because crush has to go elsewhere, but when they meet up again, crush still has it With them. Crush finds out this time that its a romantic gesture and they apologise to him for not realising, but they offer to continue having it even after they realise because they like him back if hes still interested?
Sidon Having a Crush on a Hylian Reader
Gn! Reader, omfg yes this is an amazing idea, I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun writing out a request, general fluff, I used the idea of the Zora Princess’s armor that Link got but for Sidon instead because well, there’s no more princess
CIS Women and Female Aligned people, please DNI, this story and all of my others are for non-binary, masculine aligned and male readers!
Oh
My
Hylia
First and foremost I mentioned this above but I feel like Sidon would make armor to show his like proposal to (y/n)
Would definitely resemble what he wears, similar style to his waist guard and collar
Luminous stones are imbedded into the metal and while Mipha’s was blue for Link, Sidon might want to make it more personal and choose a fabric color closer to his skin/scales
He makes sure to give it to (y/n) as soon as it’s done
“(Y/n)! I have something for you!”
“Oh Sidon, hi! What’s that?”
“It’s something I made for you, it should fit perfectly”
Not knowing that it was a literal proposal and declaration of his love, (y/n) just put it on and thanked the prince for the gift
Sidon was upset over the fact that there was nothing more than a thank you
He never showed his disappointment outwardly, but it did hurt to be half turned down by the person he hoped to be with for as long as they could be
The next day he was looking around for (y/n) but couldn’t find them
He began asking around to see who might’ve seen you, and heard the worst thing he possibly could’ve
“Yeah I’m pretty sure they were sent off on a mission with a few soldiers”
“I thought I saw them and three of the soldiers walking out of the domain”
“Mhm, (y/n) was heading out to get something, don’t know how long they’ll be gone for”
Hearing three different people confirm (y/n) was nowhere near the domain made Sidon panic
Had he driven them away at his proposal?
Did he cause this?
We’re there really soldiers with them or did they just tell everyone that there would be soldiers accompanying them?
How far were they going?
So many questions raced through his mind
But the one thing he could answer himself was that he caused this, him making the armor was a bad idea, and in the end it drove the love of his life away
That of course isn’t true but he didn’t know any better, they didn’t know any better
On the mission (y/n) began asking questions about the armor, why Sidon made it, what it stood for, things along those lines to the Zoran soldiers accompanying them
“Oh, the armor is made by Zoran heirs to the person they want to marry and mate with.”
“Wait, so it’s a proposal?”
“Of sorts, it’s for Zoran royalty only, a sacred art only they take the time to learn.”
“Oh Hylia I’ve fucked up, we need to finish this quickly, c’mon!”
And so from then on they refused to take more than a week to finish the mission, it was supposed to take a fortnight at minimum
The group made it to their destination the next day, receiving the needed materials and items from the area, and began their trip back home
As soon as the domain came into view, (y/n) started sprinting as fast as they could into the city
They had to find Sidon and apologize
Once crossing the final bridge into their found home, (y/n) asked around to see who knew where Sidon was
“Have you seen Prince Sidon anywhere I need to find him”
“I thought I saw him going to the reservoir, he might still be there”
“Thank you!”
The Hylian once again took off sprinting, this time towards the reservoir
“Sidon! Sidon where are you?!”
(Y/n) screamed as loud as they could into the lake, hoping to find him somewhere swimming in the vast waters
“(Y/n)? What are you doing here, I though you were on a mission?”
“Sidon! I-I was, we just got back, I’m so so sorry for what happened when you gave me this. I had no idea it meant so much to you I didn’t know what it stood for and why you gave it to me, but I do now. And- and I, I love you too, I want to be with you”
He simply stood there, shocked by everything he just had to take in
Processing it all as fast as he could he soon began smiling
“You didn’t know why I gave you the armor, that makes so much sense, why would you know you’re Hylian- who told you?”
“On the mission I asked one of the soldiers why you gave it to me, what it meant and why it was important. And then all of a sudden I felt awful, I just said thank you and left the next morning, I’m sorry Sidon, I can’t make up for what I did but I at least hope you can forgive me.”
“Why wouldn’t I? You’re the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and I still do, if you’ll accept my proposal…”
“Of course”

"that ability to just modify your perspective and step into the context someone else is wrestling with and listen, that's such an upsettingly rare skill for knowledge workers and healthcare workers... if you ask people why they're struggling, you can fix it and build a better process!"
You might be interested to know that when I was in pharmacy school, those patient interviewing skills mentioned by you and clockworkcrow in that reblog chain about provider burnout were taught to us as a set of techniques known as "motivational interviewing." It's not really in the scope of the personal vs systemic interventions that that reblog chain is about, but one of the revelational takeaways that I got from learning them was the idea that the healthcare provider cannot assume that their goals for care line up with the patient's; sometimes, the patient really doesn't care about the treatment or its outcomes because they have different goals of care in mind, and eliciting those goals during interviewing (because a lot of the time people are not at all articulate about what they want out of life) is a kind of ongoing step one.
I'm also curious if you or the MDs in this discussion have ever encountered ambulatory care pharmacists practicing the approaches that clockworkcrow talks about? I ask because listening to patients, identifying patient-specific blocks to care, and addressing them was something we were taught to do in pharmacy school (because our program pushed us toward ambulatory care). But since I didn't go into ambcare after graduating, I'm unsure both how much of an impact it has/how widespread such practices actually are, and whether ambcare practitioners actually, on the whole, put their money where the educators' mouths are. Can ambcare clinics actually make a systemic difference?
Oh! I had no idea they taught y'all those skills, but then I don't actually think I've ever had a conversation with a pharmacist about meds beyond a perfunctory question about whether I know what side effects there are. In general I am not used to pharmacists, doctors, or other medical professionals like psychiatrists taking a lot of time to really listen to me. Some of that is probably that all my main health complaints are things that feel normal to me and some is probably that I am a chronic minimizer--like I said in that discussion, it's a coping method.
I have never heard the term "ambulatory care" -- oh, it's outpatient care. Yeah, okay, let's use a specific physical issue: I can't run for more than about two to three without finding myself unable to breathe. This has been a thing for essentially my entire life, and in middle school we did running with heart monitors, so even apart from the physical experience of not being able to breathe and having to stop and take great heaving breaths of air, I was aware that objectively my heart rate was going up very fast no matter how hard I tried.
(We are talking "run until you start getting black spots in your vision, then walk until you can just barely breathe again, and then run, rinse and repeat. Literally the only kid slower than me was excused entirely from running because one leg was an inch shorter than the other.) No one around me seemed to think there was anything unusual about this or that I was anything besides just physically lazy, so I kind of wrote it off until my mid twenties. I mean, I'd been visibly struggling with extended physical exercise my whole life, and no one had called it remarkable yet, but friends were telling me it wasn't normal to experience those kinds of breathing issues, so...
I presented myself with this complaint to a nurse practitioner who basically told me I was just fat and needed to exercise more. I pushed past this and was grudgingly scheduled for an ecg (normal) and a peak flow test (astoundingly poor). There was no explanation presented for the peak flow except that I was out of shape and needed (guess what?) more exercise. Tried a pulmonologist, who confirmed it was not exercise induced asthma (which I had been sort of hoping, because there are fixes for that) and told me I was basically fine.
I more or less gave up until a dentist idly mentioned that my airway was very, very small and told me that micrognathia was something I should look into: my airways might be occluded. So I went to an ENT, who also immediately tried to tell me I was basically fine but did grudgingly agree to scope my airways... and discovered major blockages from my tongue (insufficient room in my jaw, so it gets shoved backwards over the airway), my nasal turbinates (swollen almost completely shut), and I forget what else. It was incredibly exciting to have a reason.
Okay, I say, what do I do with this? Exercise more? But I want to do that, I just can't breathe. I was aware that there is a surgery to artificially extend the jaw; it involves breaking the jaw and encouraging it to heal while maintaining space between the halves. So I brought this up. He was very dubious about this. I asked for a referral anyway and was referred to a plastic surgeon. The surgeon was perplexed by what I wanted to talk about and had clearly expected me to have come in for a cosmetic procedure like a nose job. Eventually I got too exhausted to follow up further; I've been meaning to resume this thing for like six years now.
Generally, my experience of doctors is that they have been trained to be suspicious of patient accounts that don't fit a very specific narrative, and that they are impatient to get on to the next thing unless you are very proactive about your own care. If you don't have a condition in mind that you can point them at without making them decide you're med seeking, they are quick to tell you that you are just making things up in your head. There are a few exceptions but I cannot underscore enough how rare I have found them to be.
And they will all tell you to exercise and lose weight as a first line of response. Not that I'm bitter.
Now, actually working in healthcare, @scientia-rex or @clockworkcrow might have more relevant commentaries than I do. But my experience in this field has not been, to put it mildly, great. Let's not even talk about my history of psychiatric care.

at this rate ima beat this jack frost all black and blue with how much trouble it is to write something im happy with. sighs. anyway, i got some asks to answer! some of them got a tad too long so its all under the cut!
tw / tags: heavy heavy beastfolk lore/worldbuilding talk, momster talks too fucking much, breeding mentions, implied noncon, multiple pregnancy mentions, long post, beastfolk / beastfolks characters mentioned: revius, zedrik, cerelos (brief), sea witch, adoxi, and velarius
Tumblr media
Beast folk idea I have! How about a male kangaroo that is of course some type of famous professional athlete (aside from boxing, he could be a martial artist, sprinter, etc.) that has been a play boy all his life (based off of how male kangaroos flex their muscles in real life to females). He never I guess had any “moment” in his life with any females, where he felt right actually wanting to be with them and love them whole heartedly (whether beastfolk of his own species or those not). So then one day someone he knows (close friend or maybe a work professional) takes him to an exclusive private party where the beastfolk have “rented” some humans to do it with. (I don’t know lore wise how legal this is, if at all, but it happened some how). I guess it’s so private because some of the guests there are secret human efers, those in denial, or just haven’t found the “right human” yet and would like some hands on sampling before purchasing them. And so, that’s how the kangaroo meets us his adorable darling. And I’d really like this to be very sweet and fluffy (before becoming mouth watering smutty of course), with kangaroo just having a “zing!” moment with us. We were the female he needed to feel complete in regards to love, and he plans to take GREAT care of us. (It’d also be funny to show how overprotective he is of reader from the start, by him unhesitatingly outbidding some of the other party guests who’ve also taken interest in reader). Of course it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, as reader has trust/abandonment/attachment issues. So finding out that her new kangaroo owner is (was) a MASSIVE play boy isn’t helping her fears. Now it’s up to kangaroo to do damage control, learn how to be a much better beast man, and show his sole love/devotion to reader. Making sure she’ll never question his love/loyalty to her ever again! He wants to make her the envy of his past flings, other beastmen, and just everybody really, since she’s the center of his universe. (Kangaroo also wants to really make her his permanently by getting her knocked up/wifey too). I don’t know if you’d like this idea/concept, but I thought it’d be very cute. I just love the trope of a Casanova finding their soul mate, and having to fix all the damage they’ve caused themselves by their own consequences. Cause it really is a self conflict, and great for character growth arcs. (I also just wanna be spoiled/doted on endlessly by a man who’s capable to throw hands literally and figuratively 24/7 to protect me). Thanks 🪭 —anonymous
hmmm, a bit -too- overdetailed for me to write this one since i like some breathing room to apply my own spins. tbf, it sounds like you already got it started! all you needed to do is to write it~if you write this one, link me! i wouldn't mind reading it and supporting fellow writers <3
while it is -my- au, i especially love seeing what it inspired in others and see their interpretations of it! while the worldbuilding remains mine (STILL chewing on starting a book/series on it someday, but the thought of publishing anything is scary af), it's literally just (semi-realistic) furries mingling with humans with extra history/political dramas included.
so, as long as you keep your worldbuilding somewhat different and source the inspiration to me, have at it. write your own beastfolk world!
anyway, on the finer details (for my AU anyway), as long as those humans are 'beastfolk-owned' and not green card/independent humans, they're essentially viewed as property to do whatever with albeit with responsibilities to ensure their well-being. as long as they're fed and have open access to water, have sufficient shelters, are clean, and their health is regularly checked, their owners can do whatever they want, really. the court won't interfere as long as the humans are safe and healthy—and mind you, the beastfolks are very slow on the uptake about the mental health, less so with their humans'.
that said, this can also depend greatly on what region they're in. some areas have far more human rights than others, being more liberal, while others may be more conservative and views humans as, well, livestock, essentially. humans in these places sometimes have the same rights as actual animals (if they're lucky). that said, the more rural it is, the fewer rights the human pets have.
of course, money DOES talk too.
so, you can just easily say that your characters are either in one of those conservative regions—or have shady connections and/or have an insane amount of money where the laws would just look the other way. just don't make it public and you're good to go, pretty much.
auctions would probably be a common sight in certain black markets, depending on where you are and when you are on the timeline. the zoo breakout to the early post zoo eras sees many of those events. on the most parts in the later era, those auctions are then transformed into whole new events entirely (aka, sports), which is the logical next step since they used to be the aftermath for when the bidding was ending in an outright war between several bidders and was used to solve the issue. instead of bidding, you'd complete for the human you wanted (i'm not clear at how the human would end up there yet since i don't feel any reputable shelter would align with those events for the 'adoption war' or that the adoption is the only way. still debating on this--in any case, the darling ends up there when there are more than two beastfolks fighting over them) and prove your worth while treating the unfortunate human like a rat bait (see: the maze headcanon i wrote a while ago—and am planning to write a whole piece of it to properly thank a very kind supporter when i'm able. some details had been changed since then, but it mostly still hold up).
in a lot of ways, the auctions were rather kinder to the humans as they wouldn't be put in outright danger right then. :/ the (new) spectator sports, such as the maze race, exploits multiple legal loopholes, since they involve no money (not outright anyway) as the auctions were (publicly) banned for "unregulated monetary transactions and the unpredictability of bid outcomes".
if anything, a good amount of these sports are...purely for "adult entertainment", if you get what i'm implying. ahem. the laws are actually pretty behind regarding the 'adult content/sports', especially with the open access of internet around then on that timeline. the large part of that had to do with encouraging the beastfolks to procreate with the humans though, so any form of sex between both races are simply not regulated outside the acceptable age range and limitations on physical violence/abuse and this includes the "entertainment" aspect.
it's fucked, but that's how they gets away with such things.. i'm rambling, but this can be a good alternative for you to think about too, to add on that extra drama flare and to further traumatize the human.
this is a super cute idea though and i sincerely hope you'll expand it yourself if you can! this is a very nice starting point too, if you're not used to writing. as for me, i'm not sure i can write all of this for you unfortunately, since i tend to go TOO long on just one scene and i have multiple ideas i wanna work on as well, aha. but you did give me room to talk the worldbuilding to help expand similar events like your idea so thank you for that. i can most definitely tell you that your poor fella is definitely not an isolated example.

Apparently penguins kidnap other penguins’ children to try and raise as their own. Was watching nature utube vids on this and it’s so sad! The desire to be a parent is so intense for some couples that they’ll take away another couple’s baby! How’d this play into your beast verse? What measures would government and organizations take to help combat this extreme phenomenon? And think about being a human parent and having your Penguin spouse come back with a random baby 💀💀💀 Even worse is if you’re in a Penguin community and have to fight off other penguins casually when you have your baby. On the streets, home break ins, etc. —anonymous
ngl featheredfolk (penguins are flightless but they're still birds and have feathers still so they count as one) is a bunch of odd birds with cultures other beastfolks often struggle to understand, especially with the dramas that often follow. children theft in general with the featheredfolks is complicated and tends to only involves the similar peers to sort it out, because outsiders (humans included, if not one of 'theirs' via being the spouse or the child/ren) would just get frustrated with their fucked logic to the point of being angry about it.
so, no, penguins wouldn't be the only birds that deal with this mannerism, but is the most common one to do so.
that said, they tend to have big enough noggins not to involve anyone who isn't a featheredfolk (and to an extent, wingedfolk), because they're still mostly prey in nature. skittishness towards the predator kind is basically ingrained in their dna.
but that's not to say such incidents never happened though! usually, it only happens when the community is actually quite small, that they have to 'outsource' to another beastfolk. it's a very dangerous thing to do though, since beastfolks are naturally very overprotective of their youngs. in cases where they do succeed with the kidnapping and escapes unscathed, it normally doesn't take long before the one they took the child from to track them down due to using their superior senses.
it's 50/50 on how it may end though and the laws would still side with the victims regardless of the outcome. hopefully, someone else would call the laws first to deal with such matters though and to calm the angry parent/guardian.
that said, i do imagine that the government would get around this annoying instinct by advertising adoptions as another option from the featheredfolk's early age in their school. they'd push it so much that the featheredfolk tends to feel like they were being singled out for it too.
...honestly, i'm not even sure how to answer this one fully. i should treat this as a serious question with a serious answer, but i can't.
the featheredfolks are legit viewed as the clowns of the beastfolk world already because of how...simpleminded most of them can be (not a bad thing!) 😭and now this. the birdbrains....still, i hope this somewhat answers your question(s)...?

Maybe I’m just blind and stupid, but did you touch up on beastfolk courtship rituals for some species? Ex- Birds may decorate, dance, or sing to court another. Hooved/fanged folk may literally fight each other to get rights to begin courtship with x. I’m just so curious to see what animal behaviors transfer to your universe! :) —anonymous
uhhhh, i don't think i really expand on those yet, no! the 'traditional' courtship rituals are more commonplace in the past than the 'modern' era, tbf, if between beastfolk and humans.
if it's just between two (or more) beastfolks, then yeah, 'traditional' courtship rituals are common.
in the present, it's a common understanding that the humans may not always understand their actions, so the beastfolk tends to adapt the best they could for 'the best of both worlds' kind of ritual—sometimes to the extreme mean though (lol).
for example, with the featheredfolks, for being a species with brittle bones, they're rather sturdy so they're often happy just living in a large treehouse and staying steady no matter the weather and season. it's more like an old cabin, with a lot of drafts. but, the thing is, neither (or more, i don't judge those in the poly relationships lol) would care, because the one doing the courting built it just for their love interest—and later built it better together for their upcoming new family members.
but for a featheredfolk genuinely interested in a human, would have to outright learn how to build a modern house—and that is far more complicated than just putting together a log cabin in the tree. they're very adaptive folks though and if they're sincere about the human, they'd go that far to at least attempt to build the foundation single-handedly. thankfully, the bird community is often tight-knit, so others would step in once the basic foundation is done and rally in.
(unlike our irl, everyone in that AU can at least afford some ways to build their own home and not be buried in the debts for the rest of their life. this is mainly because some specific beastfolks having an instinctive needs to build, that the common government would offer to offset some of the costs to abate those instincts from turning destructive.)
in their cases, even if the courting failed, the featheredfolk learned and can actually apply it to their lifeskill/career path/etc. for birdbrains, you'll see a lot of them in the engineering and architecture fields. (funny how that works!)
as you pointed out, yes, hoovedfolk and fangedfolk are more violent with their courting, but that's generally only in the cases where the love interest have more than one (alike) suitor vying for their affection. i'm not really sure how common that is in the more liberal areas tbf, but i do imagine it's a daily thing in the conservative/rural regions since those usually have a lot of, hm, predominant 'single-species' community? sorry, i'm not really sure how to word it.
since strength is what they consider their worth and humans rarely understand the point of physical violence, they'd probably show off what they're capable of instead—from lifting a car to carrying all the groceries at once for the human they're interested in. endurance too, so if the human is into, say, a sport or likes to run, they'd compete to show off just how good they are with either (though, i do like to think they'd carry their human on their back while running five more miles when the human gets tired--just to say, 'look at me! i'm not even tired yet and i'm carrying you!'). unlike the featheredfolks, fangedfolk and hoovedfolks are much milder about their courting.
whiskeredfolks are much more sly, but they like to show off how much they can provide (which is also something fangedfolk likes to do, but the former is often more subtle). usually involving money (and management) and ordering things their human hadn't realized they needed yet. things like that. they really likes to bring home food too, lol. since they can't exactly show off their hunting skills and bring home a bloodied deer carcass, providing is the next best thing with their human love interest.
there's more, but i'll stop here, but their courting rituals for their humans are basically 'modernized', with some species (obviously and hilariously so) trying harder than others.
tbf, parts of the birds' rituals were inspired by that tumblr meme on 'if men were like birds'. can't find that now though.
hope this answered you some?

Question:Revius and Zedrik- What’s family life with them now if you were to have 2 children (1 from each)? Just wondering how dynamics would change, what the children’s personalities would be like, etc. Sea Witch (octo man)- Can we have babies with him? And if we did would it be a multiple pregnancy since female octopuses (I know we are a modified human) technically lay hundreds of eggs. And how would family life be from there out? —anonymous
hm, i can't comment on the childrens personalities (and any other details, really) since that's kinda something i leave to the readers to decide.
honestly, both revius and zedrik would fall deeper in 'love' with their darling for enduring both of those difficult pregnancies, that they're rather clingy to them more so than to each other. though, granted, both knew how capable each other would be so it's more on how 'frail' their darling really is in comparison. zedrik is more openly emotional than revius is though, but revius is certainly more of the nagging type like a strict, doting mom might be. personally, i feel they'd butt heads more often after their children are born, (but never to the point of separating [imo anyway, they'd been together for some times before they decided to...'pursue' the darling]), because of how different their parenting styles were.
let's just say that cerelos' darling has an easier time wrangling with the emperor than their darling did with those two.
otherwise, they're both pretty devoted as fathers. i do imagine their kids would've been confused by their upbringings a bit though due to, again, differing parenting styles. the darling does their best though! but it's kinda hard to raise children double, triple your size lol
as for the sea witch, that's implied! i wanted to let the reader to decide on their own if they're going to have kids with him or not, rather than outright branding 'breeding kink' on the piece. but, yes, there'd be oviposition going on, had you wanted to imagine that storyline.
not sure if i understood you about the multiple pregnancies though, so i'll refrain from answering that one. instead, yes, the darling would probably carry multiple eggs and, well, egg laying. i do imagine the sea witch would've found a way to make that not at all a painful process (probably quite the opposite, tbf).
as for the family life, i'm...not at all sure. i'll leave that for you and other readers to decide. i honestly see the sea witch just enjoying the pregnancy, because to him, his darling is now ruined and marked with his seed (or, eggs). afterward? not sure if he'd enjoy the fatherhood too much, especially with multiple 8-legged kids running about.
he might be an excellent father
or he might genuinely be a shitty one.
his personality is kind of confusing in that regard, so i'll just let yall to make that call and we'll go from there.

I've really gotten into your beastfolk universe but I want to ask: Does adoxi exist within that universe or is he in a separate universe? —anonymous
nope! he's too human-looking to be a beastfolk--and is too healthy, pretty, and (mostly) sane to be a hybrid. thats why hes not in the beastfolk masterlist.
initially, he's from his own universe, where humans are living in ignorance of the existence of inhuman beings like adoxi, but i've been chewing on the possibly of him being a descendant of my other character, the cursed god. it'd explain why he's looking fairly human yet not (the 6 arms isn't genetically inheritable fyi, since the priest ripped them off from unfortunate souls to replace the ones he lost).
but that's only me chewing on it and isn't 'official' yet, since there are couple details that wouldn't make sense (but is workable). still thinking about it.
hope this answered!

God I love how you write snakemen like Adoxi and Valerius. They act like bastards but good lord I would get on my knees for them so fast! —anonymous
hee~snakes are so fun to write, ngl. imagining being wrapped around in his coil is a guilty pleasure. glad you're enjoying my depictions! <3

there's a few more, but they're requests i'm hoarding in my inbox for now lol but man who let me talk??? anyway, sorry that i took a minute to answer your asks hhhh life just keeps on happeningggg. sighs. anyway, hope yall are doing well and as always, my inbox is open for (mostly) anything. <3 love ya~and take care of yourself!
