I'm writing some extras for So Much to Say, thought I'd drop a link here. I felt like there were some blank spots left, those and some topics that I still wanted to explore, so after thinking for a while I decided to give it a go. Mind that this is established relationship and is, in fact, cheesy. At least to some extent. And maybe a bit specific, too, because I feel like Grimmer would never cease to prode and poke at Runge, and would lash out on him for being such a rock or, on the opposite, weirdly trying not to be such a rock, effectively trapping him between, well... a rock and hard place. That came out a bit too literal than I intended.
I wrote the initial work in Russian, translating it to English afterwards, and it was very time consuming and tiring for me. I still need to fix the translation on that, the semi-automated method sucks, man. So this time, I decided to make it easier for myself and write these one-shots directly in English. I'm sorry if that upsets anyone. Another thing is, since this content is cheesier than the rest, I kinda wouldn't want to post it on the local Russian-speaking platform anyway. Due to the laws and stuff. You know.

What Humans call the "Thousand Yard Stare"
As more and more Humans interact with and integrate within Coalition stations, reports, closer to hushed whispers really, began to circulate of some Humans being... discomforting... to be around.
Initially we thought it was just rudeness or passive aggressive behavior or any number of subtle actions or choice of words, no matter how advanced or civilized there will always be some assholes.
However, when some of these "offenders" were presented to us peacekeepers, we found them to be perfectly polite and reasonable. As our conversation continued and shifted topics, whenever there was a lull or the focus was on another speaker for a longer time, the Human's gaze drifted somewhat.
Sometimes she would look to the side and it was harder to tell what her exact expression was, but every so often she would be looking at one of us, but... not. It was as if she was staring at something behind us, through us even. Beyond the walls of the station, it even felt as though beyond space and time itself.
It was one of the most unnerving and chitin-chilling feelings we've ever felt, but then the Human seemed to notice our change and became that friendly and cheerful person once again:
"Sorry, my mind drifted there for a bit. What were you saying?"
And the conversation continued as if nothing was out of the ordinary for the Human.
Upon our return to our office, one of the Human peacekeepers heard about our impromptu assignment and offered this explanation after we told him what happened:
"Oh yeah, I think that person was a retired firefighter or rescue worker of some kind. Professions like that can be dangerous and you'll eventually encounter something horrible at a disaster site or crime scene. Probably saw someone die, or a person they rescued later didn't make it, or it was a kid... It's the toughest when you're the last one a child sees before..."
There it is again. That look, but with a tinge of sadness this time. We didn't know he was carrying such memories. The untimely death of anyone is a difficult time for those that survive, especially when it is the young whose life was still just starting. It seems Humans with their heightened senses and sensitivity to the feelings of others these kind of experiences imprint a far stronger memory than for most.
"Anyway, we've got a bunch of names for such things, but typically we call it the thousand yard stare. It's an old measurement unit, don't worry about it. I think the meaning may have changed a bit over the years, but basically some people go through traumatic stuff and they decide, consciously or not, to sort of... detach themselves from reality. It's a coping mechanism.
A few people thrive on horrible things, but they're the exception. Most of us would go crazy or depressed or any other infinite bad possibilities our brains can go in if we don't find a way to separate ourselves from certain realities. It can get real bad otherwise. It's rare, but a few go truly nuts and try to inflict their pain unto others. Most end up suffering alone for a long time. And some can't take it anymore and decide to end it themselves.
Thankfully therapists and support options are widely available, so those kind of scenarios are really rare, like... suicide accounts for about three out of a hundred thousand deaths last time I saw those charts. Plus drones and automation take care of most of the dangerous tasks, leaving the vast majority of cases to be caused by interpersonal relations actually. A broken heart is one of those traumas we'll never get rid of it seems. That's just life, I guess."

I say this in the kindest way possible, but I think this style of prose is more appropriate for a personal account rather than an update account. I have no idea who's being talked about half the time. 🥲
[ Tumblr meme via @mikaikaika ]
#QSMP#Philza#Edited#Phil#Let me know if this needs an additional tag#I don't think this necessitates a discourse or neg tag or whatever because I'm being silly but I'm happy to add one if folks need it#I won't post this one on Twitter I don't think because I genuinely don't want to hurt anyone's feelings#but. I feel very strongly about this. It's not helpful#I say this as a fan and as a professional writer (who also worked in the Marketing and Communications field for far too long)#The prose is nice! It's very whimsical and they're having fun! But I don't think it's appropriate for an updates account#I recently turned off notifications for QsmpEN and I'm considering muting them because half the updates just aren't helpful to me#I want to be able to speed read through the update thread I don't want to spend an additional 30 seconds trying to decipher who's who#I don't like posting complaints so I tried to make it a funny complaint#because I do think feedback is good! And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way#but at the same time: these update writers ARE volunteers#(As a side note -- I personally think anyone running a large social media account should be paid)#(I did that for a few years and it was hell. I can't imagine doing that and NOT getting paid for it)#But anyways#They're all volunteers so I don't actually wanna go all pitchforks and torches on them (which I wouldn't do anyways even if they WERE paid)#I'm just venting my frustrations in what is (hopefully) a funny way#but you're welcome to disagree! That's ok too#Portfolio

Grian hums, cackling quietly to himself as he puts the finishing touches on the netcode. He has some proper admin friends who check it over for him, of course—just because he knows he has a sense of fair play doesn’t mean everyone else does—but the game’s set. A bit brutal, of course, but what fun’s an ordinary game?
“Okay, names. Gotta have a good one for the game. Something—something life, I think, since those are the central mechanic… I’d say third, but that seems… wrong somehow.”
He steps across the room, thinking. “Last? But no, that’s too bleak. Too on-the-nose! Something to do with the twist, then,” he mutters. “Something to do with the twist. Something to do with…”
There’s an intake of breath in the back of the room. Grian whirls around. “Excuse me, I’m doing secret gamemaster things—Tim?”
There, in the chair, is Jimmy. He’s reading a book. He’s leaned against the back of his seat, like he’s been there for a while. Yellow feathers are stuck to that stupid blue jacket he has; funny, Grian doesn’t remember those.
Jimmy turns a page of the book.
“What on earth are you doing here? You know, if the Rift was acting up, you’re supposed to tell someone, not go through. You could get trapped, and trust me Tim, no one wants that.”
No response. Jimmy turns a page of the book.
Grian huffs. “Even if you were allowed to be here, and missed me that much—can’t say the same, really—no one’s allowed in here. There’s a sign and everything. This is a secret plotting room. You’ve got to respect The Rules, Tim, you know this.”
Jimmy turns a page of the book. Grian stares for a moment, taking a step forward.
“If you’re trying to prank me, trust me, it’ll backfire. We’ve done this dance before. You might be able to get away with calling yourself the Law at home, but you know my respect for rules that aren’t…”
He trails off. Jimmy turns a page of the book. Something dark crawls down Grian’s spine. He steps back again, and then another.
“You aren’t Timmy,” Grian says.
“No I ain’t,” Death says.
He turns another page. Grian steps back until he realizes he’s against the wall.
“You’re not—why do you look like Jimmy?”
“I don’t choose these things,” Death says. He pauses at something on a page and chuckles. Grian’s heart pounds. Something spins in his head. He reaches for a weapon in his inventory, then thinks better of it. It won’t work. Not against this, not now, not like this—
“It’s not time,” Grian says.
“Don’t you worry,” Death says. He looks up from his book at last. He shrugs. “That’s why I brought a book.”
Grian stares. “What?” he says hoarsely.
“Finish namin’ it and don’t worry so much about me,” Death says, gesturing back at the world Grian had been setting up to play in. “Go on. Trust me; I can wait. You’ll know when I’m done readin’.”
“No, you—you have to explain. Why are you here? It’s not—it’s just a game. Why are you here?” Grian exclaims.
Death doesn’t respond. He just turns another page in the book.
Grian tries to speak again, but before he can, he hears someone at the door. He panics. “No, don’t come in!” he shouts, turning to the door, heart racing but certain he can’t let anyone else into the room with—
He turns back. Death is gone. There is a feather on the chair; it is white.
Grian’s heart is still pounding.
“I’m putting too much work into this,” Grian says, finally slumping against the wall to the ground. “I’m hallucinating about it. You know, no one’s going to let me hear the end of it. At least it’ll be perfect.”
The words echo back oddly, like three more distorted copies of themselves, all layered on top of it. His voice sounds different in each one. Grian’s hands are clenched so tightly that his knuckles are white and his palms are bruising.
“I can name it later,” he says quietly, and this time, there’s no echo at all.

"I didn't tag this thing because I wanted more people to see it" "I tagged this thing that isn't even in the post because I wanted more people to see it" I am shaking you by the shoulders. Stop it. Tags are not here to make more people see, that's just a nice side effect. Tags exist to let people see exactly what they search for, and to ensure people don't have to see something they don't want to see or something that's genuinely outright upsetting/triggering to see. Tags exist to be followed and blocked. Tags exist to organise and categorise. You are doing yourself more of a disservice by not tagging appropriately. Stop letting clout culture ruin fandom experiences.

Yours was the first bottom Alastor fanfic I ever read and I was like woah, a whole new world… But I was wondering if you’re planning on ever writing Alastor indulging Vox and actually topping him? (He’d probably overheat and reboot at least twice during the ordeal)
Gonna be totally honest, probably not - and if I do, probably not the way you'd expect if you're a person who has specific top/bottom dynamics expectations!
Alastor's general progression in this fic series has been a slowly decreasing willingness to engage in more "lots of intimate body parts involved" sex acts because the more he tries them out, the more he realizes he could take or leave a lot of them. So I'm really unlikely to write him doing that unless it's with toys or something, purely because the way this fic series has progressed, he doesn't really have an interest in it!
To Vox's eternal regret, pfft. I'm kinda tempted to eventually take a hack at the subject, at least, regardless of how far along they get, and mesh that together with Alastor's extremely rudimentary understanding of what it means to be trans.

You approve of Yukio even after he threatened to kill people and tried to kill Rin and Ryuji?
I have answered this question at least three times now, and I know you're just trying to bait me, but woooowwwwww I must have missed something in the manga. When did Yukio try to kill Ryuuji? If you're referring to the moment when Yukio points his gun at Ryuuji, that wasn't trying to kill Ryuuji. A dead Ryuuji would not have been a Ryuuji who could talk, and that was what Yukio wanted. Answers. Ryuuji wasn't threatened with death in that moment, and Ryuuji -- the only injured party in that scene -- has forgiven Yukio and worked with an armed and loaded Yukio since then, so I think they've both moved on. Ryuuji had also kind of helped lead to one of Yukio's sort of adoptive uncles dying a few days earlier, so I think Ryuuji mostly thinks that was earned. (It was a very messed up little while in that section of the manga.)
I feel like every couple of months everyone in aoex needs to remember that none of these characters are real and none of these situations are real and that they are story devices and plot devices and that they are young teenagers in the canon story and teenagers make stupid choices. Especially when they're tired, stressed, and being made feel like they're older/more mature than they are. (IE, when they're given jobs and responsibilities for others life's well beings.)
I could talk about Yukio being a mentally ill character who has been living in some form of fear since he was born. I could talk about him knowing he was Satan's bastard son for his entire life and knowing that his twin was a ticking time bomb of awakening into a possibly massively deadly demon, but likely no one will care and they'll already know that.
I could talk about Yukio being brilliant in pretty much every way but reading emotions, but people will still assume that any time a gun appears on screen that it is loaded with the most lethal of bullets and wielded entirely with the intent to murder. (And yet not make the same assumption about the flames of Satan that have killed vastly more people than we've seen shot on screen.) And they will assume that Yukio intended to kill instead of intended to interrogate or frighten or slow someone down.
Again, no one would really care about that and they would realize it if they read the manga because it talks over and over about the kind of bullets Yukio uses not being particularly harmful to Rin who seems to take Yukio's bullets like they're the kind in a nerf gun.
I could point out that no matter what Yukio does -- even when he unloads every Armumhael bullet in Rin that they have and he makes Rin entirely human for a few minutes -- that Rin is still the more powerful party. That Rin is the dangerous one in the situation. That one thing we should all be getting in this current arc is that Rin is a god next to these exwires. He got disintegration and disembowled and ripped apart and destroyed in a horrifyingly large number of ways and just kept on going like it was a big old nothing. He can go toe to toe with Satan so I feel like mortal Yukio and his little pistols probably can't do a damn thing against Rin even if Yukio wanted to.
I could talk about the fact that literally the most avid Yukio haters will never loathe Yukio as much as himself or the fact that Rin thinking he wasn't the most incredible person on the planet never even occurred to Yukio as a possibility despite the fact that Yukio thinks of himself as not worth being alive and can't see the way he's admired by a lot of people.
I could talk about the fact that the only person we've really seen Lewin comfort is Yukio, which means that even "I have no empathy for others" Lewin Light could tell that the boy was drowning under the weight of his own self-loathing and endless guilt, or that Shura has been watching him crack, or that Toudou, Lucifer, and Satan all picked him to be the one they tried to manipulate and crack and even pulled Renzou in on their drive to do that, and that Mephisto has also been manipulating and toying with him to try and push him to his own ends. Yukio just might be the most manipulated character in the entire damn manga.
But at the end of the day, the manga is there and people are capable of reading and looking at it themselves and I'd rather just read it and write my stories and draw my pictures and just. Be okay with a well written character who has acted pretty damn human in pretty much every scene he's been in. Who has fought with his super human brother and loved his super human brother and hated himself and is trying to make amends and still hates a lot about himself but is loved by his friends and is trying to save his world from his horrible extended family.
And once again, who is a fictional person that has committed fictional crimes and fictional acts of kindness. Drink something warm and soothing and touch some grass since Yukio and co are stuck in the frozen arctic and can't. (And fictional.)
