Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi: “Part VI”-Review
Obi-Wan Kenobi closes on a high note in an emotional, satisfying finale that centers character and catharsis.
(Review contains episode spoilers)
With the Empire hot in pursuit, Obi-Wan, Leia, and the members of the Path quickly search for a way to escape to safety. Meanwhile, Reva clings to life and revenge in a desperate search to find Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker.
Despite its many faults, Obi-Wan Kenobi has always excelled at being a story about characters processing trauma. The climactic events that ended The Clone Wars left our principle cast emotionally and physically scarred. Reva fell down a dark path in the name of vengeance. Vader has become a monstrous amalgam of hatred and self-loathing. Obi-Wan spent the last ten years in a hopeless despair, focused only on the survival of Luke Skywalker. At the end of the day, Obi-Wan becomes a show about who is able to move on and grow from this trauma and who cannot escape the consequences of their actions. Like the best of Star Wars it shows how hope for the future can save those who are most lost and provide a guiding light in dark times.
Obi-Wan’s journey here is particularly cathartic and thematically well realized. Even if the road to this final episode has often been clunky and stop-gap, Obi-Wan’s triumphant final stand against Darth Vader and the quiet and emotional scenes that follow make up for most of the series’ missteps. This confrontation between master and apprentice may more closely meet the expectations of viewers than the brutal trouncing back in “Part III,” and it also looks significantly better. A generic quarry set is swapped out for a haunting, barren moon of towering rocky pillars. While Deborah Chow’s direction at times may be a tad too chaotic for the encounter, the duel between these two manages to capture the flash and spectacle of the prequel trilogy while still feeling like a fight and not an overly choreographed dance.
It also, like the best Star Wars lightsaber clashes, focuses on character just as much as laser swords. I appreciated the push and pull between both opponents and also how Obi-Wan’s escape from Vader’s impromptu tomb mimics the classic Master Planner saga from Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s original Amazing Spider-Man run. But the highlight of this encounter comes from Obi-Wan’s defeat of Vader, not only in its well choreographed spectacle but in the emotionally necessary discussion that follows. In the duel’s final moments, Obi-Wan slices away a portion of Vader’s ebony mask and for the first time in a decade master and apprentice finally meet eye to eye. The result is an emotionally gutting conversation and some of the best acting in the saga from both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. In perhaps the best moment of the series, Vader declares that he and not Obi-Wan is responsible for Anakin’s fate. It may come off as typical Vader loathing, but there is a small part of the interaction that reads like a twisted act of mercy. As if Vader is alleviating a weight from Obi-Wan’s shoulders, but only in the name of his own sick satisfaction. The look that Obi-Wan gives Vader in this moment shifts from shame and sadness to pity. The man he loves is truly gone, replaced by a monster.
It is a shame then that this moment is undercut by its almost identical similarity to a similar showdown in Star Wars Rebels. As emotional as McGregor and Christensen’s performance are, their confrontation can’t help but feel like a retread of an existing (and honestly better realized) sequence. The impulse is understandable, but the more Star Wars media tries to inhabit the same narrative ground as other projects, more toe stepping will begin to happen.
Given the climactic battle between Anakin and Vader, I appreciate the almost quiet way that Reva’s story resolves itself. Sure, there is the tense chase through the Lars Homestead, but it is Reva herself that decides to let her path of vengeance go. Her murder of an unconscious Luke does herself no good and doesn’t even come close to avenging her own suffering and the deaths of her friends. Its senseless violence and she finally is able to let go of the dark. And, in a welcome move, she lives. There is a future of this franchise that includes more of this shattered and tormented woman, who has walked both the light and dark. I really hope we don’t have to wait much longer before we see her again.
And while the final minutes of “Chapter VI” may give The Return of the King a run for its money in the number of fade-to-black false ends, the fact that Joby Harold, Hossein Amini, and Andrew Stanton’s script lingers on our protagonist is appreciated. Given that so much of this series has been about its title character finding peace and purpose once again, these moments of Obi-Wan finding direction for his future feel necessary. We get the meaningful goodbye to Leia, the quick first meeting of him and Luke, and the long awaited reappearance of his former master Qui-Gon Jinn as a Force Ghost. It shows a man that was shrouded in despair and cynicism embrace his past and future for a brighter future. It’s beautifully contrasted with a Vader who is only able to let go of his quest due to fearful loyalty to his master.
Thankfully, Obi-Wan closes out on a high note. Despite its sometimes awkward pacing and messy production, this series is among the most emotionally engaging material that the franchise has served up in quite some while. If Star Wars television always focused on emotion and humanity at the expense of spectacle, I think we’d be looking at a hopeful future.

There's a massive number of firings yesterday and thinking of just firing everybody they don't do any work anyways and they don't really care and they take it lightly all the stuff. Then they asked them and they decided to keep them on cuz they're in fighting and some of them said it.
-the neighborhood has been cut down to about 170 households of warlock and out of 300 that were here. They're not very happy about it but they don't think it's so big enough loss to be concerned
-the general populace percentage off island of morlock is now dropping rapidly it was 7.3 this morning it's now 7.1%, and that is before the evacuation and before major maneuvers occur that are planned for today some of them involv many trillions of people and they are going to fail as they always do add to that the fact that Star wars is beginning and they are going to wipe out their bases and those are the ones that are remaining and after that they will start swarming on the independent basis what's your mix and which rmx and Stan will have to defend them and right now Stan is mobilizing his fleets in positioning them to intercept it is. So these two are saying we're going to get wiped out and we're going to go after you so he sent this offspring after him both of them and they're dead.. and they tried to say stuff but they died too quick and we killed them all out there for saying that they're going to do that. Is now hitting the idiots they're trying to get there anything she can hit them coming and going eventually just be his. The starting is approach there are 10 very large bases overseas and 200 small he's going to wipe out half the small ones and is going to concentrate on the big ones and right now it's working and his people are cleaning out the idiots from inside. This is the beginning of the Star wars saga and it is a New Hope which is the first movie. And he plays Obi-Wan Kenobi but it's really running that portion of the empire fleet and bja goes up and starts hitting his own people and they kill him and it's because the stand went into the museum and at that time Biden begins running the empire fleet and it's under scrutiny and suspect of being the museum curator eventually they figure out his role and it's not as bad it's because Tommy f is doing the museum
-and yes it is the beginning of Star wars the space symphonic orchestra and it is a massive massive genre there's so many people wearing it and running around as it it's not even funny Queen have a Dollar too and they're saying it's Hera and it's really Sarah it is a massive massive movement it has started it's well past the morlock well past it. Huge numbers of Star wars cosplay coming out they want a son at the Tampa Bay one coming up and he doesn't have any money to go there and he doesn't have any cosplay money and it doesn't have any transportation money and you have to pay for entrance fee transportation cosplay food probably a room and has none of that it's like 500 bucks or 700 and there's nothing I can tell you this is so hot and he's got cosplay and he looks up he's got a rebel suit on for some reason he looks up and he sees Ken and he's got the Han Solo costume on but as Frankie the Pena.
We published now this is huge and several famous battles are coming up today we can see it happening in Star wars the motion picture and the series and the TV series and the cartoons series all of them are forming up it is a humongous day

cut his own padawan braid after qui-gon’s death
even though he almost left he order for Satine, he WOULD have if Anakin asked
was lowkey devastated that anakin did not give him his padawan braid after his knighting during the clone wars (no clue what’s canon anymore? but i grew up on the 2003 clone wars, and anakin gives it to padmé and i’m still having feelings about it)
is the council’s baby, in that everyone on the council either saw/helped him grow up, or grew up with him.
while canon says he could never kill anakin, he would have killed vader to protect luke

Me seeing someone on Twitter saying that they hope that Vader gets an entire standalone episode in the Kenobi show and that it will "finally show fans on the screens that Vader and Anakin are two personalities fighting for the same body and they fight constantly for control":
#like okay first of all Vader and Anakin are the same person and that's literally the entire point of his character#and second of all there are nine movies that are literally called the Skywalker Saga and Obi-Wan gets only six episodes#and you want to take an entire episode away from that to focus solely on Vader?!?!?!#please I'm begging you can one thing not be about Anakin for once#like I understand that he's going to be in the show and that makes sense#because his relationship with Obi-Wan is a huge part of Obi-Wan's character#but Vader doesn't need to be having his own little side adventures in this show#it's the KENOBI SHOW#and whatever he does better serve OBI-WAN'S story not his#!!!!!!!!#I have so many feelings about this#not gonna tag this with the characters because I don't want stans coming after me#kenobi series#personal

11) Which planet would you want to call home?
If I liked heat at all, I’d say Tatooine since it’s my absolute favourite planet ever!! It’s just?? So fascinating??? I adore all the legends/canon lore and I have a bunch of headcanons, too :)
However I, unfortunately, do not handle hot climates very well. So Imma have to go with Alderaan! They’re very environmentally conscious and have an interesting (if not very canonically developed) culture! They also seem to be a very morally good people? Just- everything about the people and the planet is so incredibly idyllic. I wouldn’t mind living there as long as it doesn’t involve any Death Stars. :)
24) Would you want to be human, or from another species?
I’d definitely want to be a Zabrak!! They’re my favourite humanoid species (besides Tusken Raiders, but like....i don’t actually want to BE a Tusken Raider..). It’d SUPER SUCK if I came from Dathomir but alsooo those sweet tattoos??? 👀👀👀 (But for SOME stupid reason female Dathomirian Zabraks DON’T have horns so I’d have to have to just..not have be cis female which is A-OK with me! ✨) I just love their horns and they’ve got super cool lore! Plus two planets which is even cooler!
40) If you could make your own Star Wars trilogy/series, what would it be about?
Oh GOD I would 10000% go straight for Nomi Sunrider!!! One of my all time fav SW characters!!!! You can find her in the Tales of the Jedi comics (specifically: The Saga of Nomi Sunrider, The Freedon Nadd Uprising, Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith War, and Redemption). Of course, I own all of these, bc I Needed all the Nomi Sunrider Content in my life. Here I’m gonna spam you with pics:
She lived around ~4000 BBY, during the time of the Great Sith War (which she was HEAVILY involved in!!) I STAN Nomi Sunrider (née Da-Boda) not only bc of her cool name but because:
1) Look at that GORGEOUS receding hairline!! Love a powerful woman who OWNS her looks and doesn’t give into traditional beauty standards!
2) She was married to a Jedi before she became one. Her husband constantly told her she was powerful and would make an AMAZING Jedi (yay for marrying a man who LOVES and SUPPORTS his wife!!) but she was too humble to become one.
3) She is a MOTHER!!!!!!!
3) Her husband DIES. Objectively terrible for her, but 1000% amazing for US!!! Because then she takes up his lightsaber and absolutely DESTROYS his murderers.
4) She immediately feels guilty and vows never to take a life again (which.....she might go back on at some point, I honestly don’t remember, but I ADORE her for all of this)
4) She is now a SINGLE mother and we STAN single mothers in this house!!!
5) SHE IS A SINGLE MOTHER AND SHE STILL BECOMES A JEDI!! REPEAT!!! SHE IS A SINGLE MOTHER AND BECOMES A JEDI!!!!!!!!!! SHE RAISES HER DAUGHTER WHILE SHE IS A JEDI!!!!!!!!!!! How can I NOT fucking adore her??
6) She mistakes her new Master for a fuckin HORSE basically. A giant, bulky horse. Also, she rides him around all the time. It’s great. Nothing like letting your Master carry you around like he’s a beast of burden. Like Yoda in reverse.
7) She’s got her own funky droid called A-D3O (ThreeDee) and they consider each other FAMILY!!! FAMILY!!! They worry about each other all the time and ThreeDee plays instruments! Three Dee also has a weirdly humanoid face and I LOVE him. I think he also uses a blaster at some point I don’t remember. Anyway, I Fully Support droids using blasters to kill the villains.
8) Also, okay, wiki says she’s human, but I 10000% do NOT believe that. maybe near-human but not fully human. I need more non-human female main characters in my life, please and thank.
8.b) This is turning into Nomi Sunrider Loving Hours but I will take ANY opportunity to scream about her and how much I want to marry her or just- be her friend. Or let her step on me. I’ll take anything at this point, really. I’m Begging.
9) She ends up becoming part of a TRIO with two brothers. They are 1000% her sidekicks and no I am not taking any other opinions on this matter.
10) She shacks up with the objectively Worse brother, but I support her coming to terms with the loss of her husband and finding new love and happiness in her life. At least she’s got a bro to complain about her stupid bf with.
10.b) Unfortunately, her stupid bf is ACTUALLY Stupid Beyond Belief and Nomi Sunrider is in for a lot of heartache.
10.c) There are some SUPER COOL parallels between the brothers and Anakin&Obi-Wan so I’m always here for that.
11) Nomi Sunrider KNEW it was a Stupid Idea for her bf to infiltrate the Sith to “take them down from the inside.” She KNEW and she TOLD HIM. She is a fucking SMART WOMAN. But does he LISTEN?? NO. HE DOESN’T.
12) Nomi Sunrider is actually??? One of the most powerful Jedi EVER???? Like, she completely SEVERS her bf’s connection to the Force (bc he is a Stupid and Kills his brother and she is DISTRAUGHT) and also is able to create a giant Force-shield she uses to defeat Exar Kun. She is HUMBLE and INTELLIGENT and POWERFUL BEYOND BELIEF.
13) May I gently remind you that she STILL is a single mother and successfully raising her child during all of this??? Through training and adventures and a fucking WAR, Nomi Sunrider is KILLING IT with the parenting and her daughter LOVES her.
14) Nomi Sunrider BECOMES GRAND MASTER OF THE JEDI ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15) Gonna say it again: NOMI SUNRIDER BECOMES GRAND MASTER OF THE JEDI ORDER!!!!!!!!
16) Need I say more??
So like, not only would we get an INCREDIBLE female lead who I think would actually be a fucking AMAZING influence culturally (that representation babaaay~), it would also take place during a SUPER interesting time in GFFA history?? It’s a relatively new but still well-established Jedi Order that ISN’T based on Coruscant quite yet (OSSUS OSSUS OSSUS). We’d get TOOONS of alien species, a shit ton of culture/history and lots of new planets!! We still get some ~spicy~ Sith conflict, and we get to see how it plays out in an intriguing way that sort of parallels Anakin?? OH AND!! We get to see a very different Jedi Order!! The dude who interpreted the Jedi Code as we know it lived during this time, so it’d be really really really cool to see different philosophies and cultures within this time period! (things like marriage not being frowned upon or even encouraged, etc. etc.)
I dunno, I just love this time period and I would die for Nomi Sunrider, so. GIMME A NOMI SUNRIDER TRILOGY PLS

Ben Solo/Kylo Ren: a character analysis
OK, first things first: THIS ISN’T A STAN OR ANTI POST. This is a character study, and if you can’t handle this character getting impartial concrit, just don’t read. If, however, you don’t agree with some of the points I’m going to make and want to have a healthy discussion about it, then I’m all ears. I don’t think my opinion is the only valid one, so feel free to try and change my mind.
And second things second: I tried so hard to love the sequel trilogy, but when it became clear after TROS that the studio had no plan other than making money, it became very difficult. I’m aware that the main problem for all the characters is the lack of general planing in this whole mess of trilogy, so keep this always in mind while reading this post: the first problem of this character was that the studio didn’t even know what to do with him.
1. Does Ben Solo becoming Kylo Ren make sense?
I checked the comics to get his background better. He had a happy childhood traveling a lot with Han and Leia, but when she discovered about the First Order, she sent him to train with Luke while Han and Chewie ran undercover missions for her. This is important: up to this point, he had a good relationship with his family, even if he was already being pulled by the dark side of the Force. It was during his adolescence that he started to be really seduced by Snoke, hearing the voice he thought belonged to Darth Vader. After the Luke incident, he did explode the cabin and thought he had killed his uncle, but he was not the one who killed all the other students and destroyed the temple: that was Snoke’s thing. He did kill some of his fellow Jedi apprentices later on, though. So, his turning points were Luke’s treason and Snoke’s coordinated abduction. And I would like to point out: the Sith training involves torture and brainwashing, so the first wrong impression I would like to correct about this character is that he was not simply a dick and revolted teen who ran away to join a cult.
BUT, there are some huge problems here. The first one is that when you watch the movies, you don’t learn anything about that aside from Luke’s part. In the way he’s presented in TFA, he’s Leia and Han’s son who betrayed his family, destroyed his uncles’ dream and joined the dark side for no reason. OF COURSE half of the audience wouldn’t like him. That wouldn’t be a problem if they just wanted him to be a villain like Darth Vader was, but it’s very clear that there was a plan (at least for one director) to make him a supposedly redeemable character. And how can we sympathize with his character like that? Even after we get to know what Luke almost did, the next question is simple: ok, so why he didn’t go back to Han and Leia?
And here is the second huge problem: we learned that after Ben leaves Yavin IV, Luke vanished, and Han and Leia broke up and went back to smuggling/leading a rebellion. And I can’t stress this enough, this doesn’t make any sense. The sequel trilogy killed Luke, Han, and Leia’s characters. These three characters that we have known for years would never, ever, had abandoned Ben Solo. Leia F*cking Organa and Han shot-first Solo would have brought their son back or die trying. Luke Skywalker is not a coward, he wouldn’t go into hiding and abandoned his only sister to clean up his mess during another war, let alone close himself to the Force, knowing full well he wouldn’t be able to feel if she was in danger. Just remember Han risking his life to save Luke in Hoth; or Leia leaving the rebellion to rescue Han from Jabba; or Luke straight-up disobeying ghost Obi-Wan and ghost Yoda to save Han and Leia, even if that costed the war. They were older and different, for sure, but we are talking about the quintessential things, the things that make these beloved characters themselves.

So no, in the way it was done in the movies, Ben Solo becoming Kylo Ren doesn’t make sense to the audience, and that’s a huge problem. A friend of mine suggested once that instead of being a rip-off of ANH, TFA should have been a movie about the beginning of the First Order (because after we defeat the Empire on episode VI, episode VII starting with ANOTHER all-powerful evil government already dominating the galaxy and exploding planets just throws away all the previous movies’ efforts) and about how Ben Solo becomes Kylo Ren. Just imagine if Rey, Finn and Poe had interacted with Ben Solo before he becomes evil: the stakes would have been so much higher, and it could have been well done. It would have made this character more human and likable.
2. Kylo Ren’s motivations: what does he want?
If the OT was about hope, I think we can agree that the ST’s themes are legacy and belonging. Having their protagonists, Rey and Ben/Kylo representing two apposite sides of those things was one of the best ideas for the new saga. Rey looks for belonging in the past she doesn’t know, while Kylo wants to abandon Ben Solo’s past and find his place in his future as Kylo Ren.
In that sense, his character arc was somehow solid. In TFA, it’s clear he’s still struggling with the dark side and feels the temptation of the light: he loses control easily, and he’s not doing anything unless Snoke orders him to. Ok, but why? Why is he clinging to Darth Vader’s ideals and staying in the sith path? Basically because he thinks it’s too late, and he has no other options. Which brings us back to the problem with Han and Leia: his parents didn’t go after him, they chose to go back to their old lives – of course he would think there’s no going back for him now. “But he is an adult man and could make his own decisions.” It’s a fair point, but again: sith training corrupts you and even if he had escaped, the only thing that would happen would be Snoke finding him again. It’s kinda like leaving an addiction: you supposedly can do it by yourself, but it is so much easier if you have help. Not a simple promise or offer, but actual, constant, and present help. I can not stress this enough, but I insist that one of the main problems with the sequel trilogy was not explaining in a satisfactory way HOW and WHY he turned to the dark side and stayed there.
3. Han Solo
Okay, I will admit: maybe my opinion on this specific topic is biased, because Han Solo is my favorite SW character. You may call me out as a fangirl if you don’t agree, but my point is: making Kylo Ren kill Han Solo was a bad idea. They basically killed the character for half of the audience, with zero chance of redemption.
It’s because it’s fratricide. Unless your father is Satan, the Emperor, or someone as equally villainous, fratricide is just that bad. It’s not easy to redeem a character who commits murder, but one that kills his own father? Who happens to be one of the good guys? And one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the franchise? There were other options to give Kylo Ren a tipping point, a conflicted moment that didn’t involve killing Han Solo. But they did, and he killed him. And now he’s no longer a villain we can sympathize with: now we think he’s a monster.
4. His interactions with Rey in TLJ
(I’m not wearing shipper goggles for this. I don’t even own shipper goggles when we are talking about Star Wars.)
Kylo Ren is conflicted after killing Han Solo, (and I will make a small pause here to reinforce how good Adam Driver’s acting was. He’s the only responsible for all the likable parts of Kylo Ren, especially in this movie). Kylo is once again unstable and Snoke is displeased with him, and for a moment we think he finally turned completely to the dark side, until he pauses before shooting Leia’s ship.
The force bond was the most interesting part of the movie. I don’t agree that he used it to manipulate Rey: if anything, he was completely harsh and blunt and kind of a dick to her, but he didn’t lie. He told her things how he saw it, with so much conviction that she started to see his side of the story. And since she was probably the first person in years that actually listened to him, his decision of murdering Snoke and inviting her to join the dark side makes very much sense.
We are talking about motivations and his are simple: let the past die, forge a new path. When he kills Snoke and no longer has a master, he only has one option: to become the master. That’s why he takes over the FO, and wants Rey to be his apprentice. Does the character suffer from sith-tunnel-vision? Definitely. But it makes sense. His decision-making is not overly complicated: he feels alone, and he wants a purpose: he decides that the solution for both is Rey joining him in the dark side. When she refuses, he still has one purpose: the FO.
This is, however, the point where he turns his back to the light completely: on Crait, he orders the FO to explode the Rebel Base and kill everyone, knowing full well his mother was in there. He orders them to exploded the Falcon out of the sky, once again knowing that Chewie and Rey are on board. When facing Luke, he repeats that he will kill Rey and the rebels. His transition from conflicted sith apprentice to the new villain of the franchise was actually well done.
And exactly because of that, the next topic pisses me off so much.
5. The continuity problem between episodes VIII and IX
Introducing Palpatine here was bad for so many reasons: backtracking Rey’s arc, making us think about Palps’ sex life, insisting on beating a literal dead horse when there were new things to explore, etc etc. And it was also bad for Kylo Ren’ arc. As I said before, the way they finished episode VIII, everything pointed to Kylo becoming the final evil Rey would have to face, and that would have been awesome. We didn’t need Palps, or ANOTHER all-powerful evil army ready to conquer the galaxy with exploding-planets-tech (seriously, is Alderaan a joke to you, Disn*y?).
But, in the third movie, they went back and decided they didn’t want Kylo Ren to be the ultimate villain anymore. They wanted him to be redeemed. And that’s not bad per se, but an actual redemption arc needs to be planned, and I think we can all agree, there was no planning in the sequels. And again, FRATRICIDE. So they introduced an old, more powerful evil to make Kylo Ren less evil and less of a threat in comparison. And evil so definitive, and with such a bullshit connection to Rey, that it makes Kylo reconsider his previous promises of killing the last jedi and going back to the plan of making her turn.
And so, his character spends the movie going after Rey, to tell her the bullshit truth about her parents, to convince her to join him. At least his arc is still somehow solid, because once he’s decided on his path, he doesn’t lose control like in the previous movies, and his body language is more firm and lethal. Which, honestly, thanks Adam Driver, he knew the character way better than the director at this point.
He finally comes back to the light when Leia dies. Although it was rushed, I agree that, at that point, it was literally the only thing that could have made him turn. Rey reminding him that he wouldn’t be alone if he hadn’t chosen the dark side helped, too. It was clear that the moment with Han Solo was supposed to be with Leia, but I’m really glad Harrison Ford agreed to come back to fill in the role for his old friend.
6. Ben Solo
Okay, there’s so much to unpack here. When Ben Solo finally comes out to play, it’s very good. We can finally see some things that explain Kylo Ren better – it’s so obvious how awkward he was in his own body trying to be an evil sith lord when he is clearly a natural disaster. He still suffers from tunnel vision, but at least now it’s Skywalker-do-or-die tunnel vision. It’s like a weight was lifted from his shoulders, and the way his actions scream Han Solo makes me, once again, wish the first movie had been about him, and not the whole “find a map/ Star Killer base was ANOTHER ridiculous idea / I know R2’s alignment is chaotic bastard but COME ON”.
Star Wars has a notorious story with pulling Force powers out of nowhere, and I’m not going to pretend to be an expert in SW lore, so I won’t complain about the dyad thing (and the weird stuff with the light sabers). I honestly liked the concept. There’s a lot I have to say about the final battle against Palpatine, but I think it would fit better in a future character study about Rey (God, that’s going to be another long ass post). I just want to add that after Luke insisted on her taking both light sabers to Exegol, and after all the crazy stuff Ben did to get to her, they should have, you know, actually fought side by side against 85% dead Palpatine? Aren’t these two idiots supposed to be stronger than that?? I’m not complaining about Rey bringing him down “alone” since she is the protagonist yada yada, I just wished that Ben had done something, instead of being thrown into a hole.
(Palps did that out of spite because of his grandfather? I bet he did.)
I won’t say I didn’t cry hearing the voices of the past jedi talking to Rey, because I definitely did. If anything, it was great to see so many beloved actors getting a chance to honor such iconic characters. But are you freaking shitting on us? Where were ANY of those assholes when Luke, Leia and Ben needed them, like, ten years ago?? “Well, force ghosts should not be used as ex machinas, and they don’t see the future” Tell that to episodes IV, V and VI. Anakin, Obi Wan and Yoda can show up for Vader weird funeral/party with ewoks but they can’t send a jedi signal for the Skywalkers to warn them about Sith bullshit about to happen? “They were probably ahead in the world the comes next and they didn’t have a way to come back, they just talked to Rey because Exegol is a Force nexus and-” And so is Ach-To. And so is Yavin IV. And so is Dagoba (Yes, Snoke sent Ben there for training). Look, I have no problems with Force Ghosts, I love them bastards. I’m just so freaking mad with the lack of coherence in this trilogy. If they did not talk to the Skywalkers – and I’m sure at least Luke and Ben asked Obi Wan/Anakin to show themselves A LOT – they should not have talked to Rey. It was a crowd please moment, for sure, but it was another gigantic middle finger to Ben Solo (before he becomes Kylo Ren).
And then Rey died, and Ben brings her back. I know how many funny jokes are going around in the fandom about how resurrecting Qui-Gon or Padme would have saved the galaxy so much trouble, but again, I’m okay with that. It was previously established that since they were a dyad, they had this living Force between them (although it was rushed in the final like everything else). And it does make sense Ben doing that: he had just come back to the light, and his parents were both dead. Han and Leia were gone because of him, the last time he saw Chewie was as his captor, and before that, he got shot by him, etc, you get the idea. He had nothing else, only this: the chance to make it right by a person that genuinely cared for him. Exchanging his life for Rey’s was nothing: he knew that his family would be waiting for him in the world that comes after.
So, did I like the Bendemption? It. Was. Not. A. Redemption. It was the right choice, and it made things right between him and Rey, because she forgave him for everything. But that’s it. He did not face the consequence of any of his previous actions. “But he died for her!” And we just established that it was not a difficult choice, considering that he had literally no reasons to stay alive if Rey was dead. If you want to see an actual redemption arc, go watch Avatar the Legend of Aang.
And finally, the kiss and the death. Okay, I know I’m digging my own grave by addressing that, but my mama raised no coward. Here it goes: it was fan service, pure and simple. It’s there to make part of the fanbase happy. Good for you, reylos, but to us, not shippers, it came out of nowhere. And I’m not questioning if they had feelings for each other or not: I’m talking about pacing and characterization. I’m not 100% convinced that Rey, as a character, as she was presented to us so far, would have done that. It felt out of place, and it broke the immersion of the scene. I was emotionally invested on what was going on, I was happy to see Ben smiling at her and everything, but then suddenly they were sucking faces and the “FAN SERVICE” alarm was so loud in my mind that I immediately lost interest. If they wanted that in the movie so much, there was probably a better way to do that.
It makes sense that Ben had to die to bring Rey back: one life for another and everything. I still think that, story-wise, it would have been better if none of them had died a ridiculous death, and Ben had faced the consequences of his actions as Kylo Ren, but okay, moving on. The main problem here is what happens after he dies: nothing. Absolute-effing-nothing. He dies, he disappears – which, again, I won’t question because Leia was involved and Skywalkers do whatever they want with the Force and I’m no expert – but that’s it. Rey, the same Rey that had just jumped his bones fifteen seconds earlier, doesn’t even mourn him. She doesn’t cry, she doesn’t do anything for him in the end, she just goes to Tattooine because it makes sense to the Skywalker saga to end where it started. She sees more of those Force Ghosts who never appear when they freaking should and that’s it.
Why is it bad? Well, first, like it or not, Ben Solo/Kylo Ren was one of the main characters and he deserved an actual final. Finn and Poe too, but those are long posts for another day. And second, it makes the fan-service in that kiss scene more evident. You can’t have the girl kiss him and in the next scene act like it didn’t matter at all. “Ok, then it was a thank-you kiss and there were no real feelings of loved involved”. But that makes it worse, it would be even more completely out of character for Rey – who avoids physical contact with people on the regular – to just kiss someone as a thank-you. Do you see how the math does not compute? If she had feelings for him, and therefore kissed him, she should have mourned him. If anything, she should at least miss her other part of the dyad thing. And if she didn’t mourn him because she didn’t have actual feelings, then she should not have kissed him. A little consistency, it’s all I’m asking.
7. Conclusions (aka tl;dr)
He was a somehow consistent character, but the lack of plot for the sequels was a huge problem. If the trilogy had been about Ben Solo becomes Kylo Ren – Kylo Ren kills Snoke and becomes the real villain – Rey faces Kylo Ren and she either saves him or kills him, it would have been so much better than the mess the studio did.
His story in the comics is so much more complex than what it is shown in the movies, but what they did to Han, Leia and Luke was a crime.
It was clear that one director had a vision to give him a redemption, and the other to make him the ultimate villain.
Adam Driver did what he could to make this character solid and somehow likable, let’s thank him for that.
There was no reason to bring Palps back,
Rey’s actions in the final are contradictory,
He should have stayed alive to face the consequences of his actions,
and the studio is charged guilt for getting our hopes up just to crush them with their lack of interest in doing something descent for the fans.
But again, that’s just my analysis of this character. Feel free to disagree with me, I would love to see what other people think about Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.

I believe it is a bit difficult to believe, but after seeming so many posts about "you ship JonRya/Jonsa, you probably wanna sleep with your brother"
This is uwwww. Wrong.
I've seen tons of shows and movies, and actually, I believe of all the ships I have ever had(and it is really a lot), just two were actually incestuos.

YuMe(Vampire Knight Manga/Anime)
All the other fandoms, I don't ship incest because everything I see is pure platonic love? No chemistry at all? Includding Supernatural with the called "Wincest". I don't like it, and by all the logic of why I love JonRya /one dying for one another, the longing, co-dependence, a bit of non-healthy obcession/, I should also ship Dean and Sam. But no. They are brothers for me, and for me, they will always be brothers. Destiel have my whole heart and soul. Even being in JonRya fam for so long, I was truly surprised that there were people that shipped Wincest. Kind of: Nop. Nop. That is gross and not for. Creepy. (IK it is a bit hypocrite, but I truly don't care. It is the way I feel.)
Another incest(Pevensie x Pevensie) I was traumatized after seeing this tag on ao3, and accidently reading on ff.net believing was just a sister-brother bond fluff. Really traumatized.

Anakin x Ahsoka? I actually got nauseus after seeing this, because even not being related, they loved one another as siblings too, and they never showned anything else. Anakin was like Ahsoka's big brother. Also guys, AniDala is life and tragedy, and I really have drawned with this ship. (All the tears, omg.)

Obikin? For me, both Anakin and Obi Wan would be ashamed seeing those, because Obi Wan was basically a father figure in Anakin's life, and Obi Wan called him brother.

There are contless anothers, but those ones I'm focusing now are because they are the ones I'm more into the fandom recently.
I truly believe all the incest ships, actually needs a background to start being shipped wildly or actually, that we start shipping at all.
In ASoIaF for exemple, there are countless Incest relationships, and not just in the Targaryen family(there are in the Lannisters, not being only Cercei x Jaime, it is in the Stark family as well, but not between siblings, probaly with the Arryns, Tyrrels, Martells and Tullys too, but Im not sure) and it is an open thesis through out the whole saga, what makes the readers more open to the idea of something happening between relatives than in any other fandom.
Like Jonarya, Jonerys and the worst: Jonsa.
I believe that with being a part of the fictional world where the characters live and it is all the time being showned on paper, we just put aside the familiar bond, and start just looking if a future relationship would be "healthy" or "toxic" with the same standards we analyse other couples that are not related and the characters toughts about anothers can become much more than just familiar.
Exemple: "Beneath all this furr she could be as skinny as Arya"
It is a question of enviroment of the world building, how our brains deal with the information and with wich couple we are more syntonized, that atracts us more. Like: From Childhood friends to lovers being truly sweets, protectives towards one another, or the enemies to lovers of great leaders joining to one another for a greater cause becoming an incredible power couple, or just... Well... The hot guy with the hot girl kind of thing.
This why I feel that is really dumb to actually criticize pointing problems for someone else's real life just because they enjoy something in fiction.
Do you judge someone who actually stan the Joker, for exemple? Batman? Dark stories? Someone that enjoys horror movies? Shooting games? Do you believe those people will actually take a blade and snipers and become serial killers, vigilants, just because they enjoy fiction?
There are studies of psychology about it, and is really something interesting to study.
Im just talking and talking and I believe this is getting confusing, but is just a theory.

Sudden realization I had today as I rewatched the Clone Wars because my neurotic ass can’t just watch the new Mando episode with Ahsoka and needs to watch all of Clone Wars and Rebels to see what she’s been up to in the mean time.
I...I think prequel stans and Anakin stans might stan the prequels and Anakin because of how good the Clone Wars series is at giving him personality and the story depth? Like, I’m of the genuine opinion that the prequels aren’t as bad as many point them out to be, but that they’re still bad movies with bad acting, bad story telling, and just...below average movies that do a bad job of telling the story they’re trying to tell and a bad job of depicting Anakin as a relatable character with any depth. But the Clone Wars series, whether it be the episodes that show Anakin with the Clones under his command, the episodes that show him and Obi-wan going off and doing stuff together as friends and a team, the episodes that show him struggling with his destiny, the episodes that show him training Ahsoka. Any of them do such a better job of showing him as ‘the best fighter pilot in the galaxy’ or ‘one of the most powerful with the force’ or just...as a person that conveys human emotion. I dunno. My point here is The Clone Wars series is great and if you want quality Skywalker Saga prequel stuff? That’s the place to get it.

Guys...they did the impossible. I liked Rise of Skywalker! They ended it well, and there were a bunch of parts that I REALLY liked (and really only a few parts that I was "meh" about).
SPOILERS UNDER THE READ MORE!
So! Let’s go through the main reveals/plot points and then I’ll go into more specifics. Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter - I’ll be honest, I did NOT expect that. I think after TFA came out, I reblogged a gifset that included all of the Rey parentage theories, and I was like, “lol what? who the hell thinks that Rey is a Palpatine? wtf?” And now it’s canon? Honestly, it’s the same kind of batshit reveal that I’d expect from Star Wars, so I’m kinda okay with it.
Kylo Ren’s redemption was...not as terrible as I thought it would be. As y’all know, I am very anti-Kylo and anti-R*ylo, so I thought I was going to Suffer in this movie. But I was surprised by how I felt about it - only mildly irritated instead of bursting with rage. I still think he doesn’t really have a personality other than 1) whiny 2) manipulative and 3) emo, but I did like the scene where he hallucinates Han and repeats his line from TFA (”I know what I have to do but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it”). That being said, it is still highly questionable to have Kylo’s redemption built on Leia’s death/sacrifice for her son (it reads a little too much like fridging a woman to save a male character), but I will excuse the filmmakers for that because they didn’t have much footage of Carrie Fisher to work with, so there wasn’t too much they could do if they wanted to commit to not digitally reconstructing her (which I am glad they did not do).
I digress (I’ll talk about Leia in the next paragraphs). I did like that Kylo just showed up to the final fight with Palpatine in like, a henley and slacks. It seemed like a very Skywalker thing to do, lol. Also, thank God that he died. Like, damn - I see all these Kylo stans being so upset at his death, and I’m just like? His character purposefully paralleled Vader - a parallel which I think was weak, at best, but still, a parallel - and you thought that he wasn’t going to die? Also, what would have happened if he had lived? Oh right, he would’ve gone to prison for the rest of his life and not gotten married to Rey and have kids, lol, what universe are you living in? As it was, I think that they did his death well - like Vader, they had him sacrifice himself for somebody that he loved (although the bond between Rey and Kylo is, once again, much more questionable to me than the bond between Luke and Vader/Anakin). And like Vader, he turned back to the Light because of his family (Leia and Han). Thinking about the 2 other ways Ben’s character arc could’ve gone (1) he doesn’t turn back to the Light or 2) he turns back to the Light but doesn’t die), this was the only satisfying way to end his arc (at least in my opinion).
That being said, I REALLY could’ve done without that kiss. Like, really? You just had to force it into an unnecessary romance? You couldn’t have just had them hug or cradle each other, platonically? Both of the climactic emotional moments of the previous trilogies were completely non-romantic, and both focused on love of FAMILY - Luke cradling Anakin, his father, as he dies, and Obi-Wan being forced to “kill” Anakin, his brother. It would’ve been so much better if they had ended this one with Rey cradling Ben, her brother, as he died. But no, we can’t have nice things because heteronormativity exists. *sigh*
But, we’re moving on. I thought that they handled Leia’s character really respectfully - I think Carrie Fisher would’ve been proud. I’m still bitter and sad that we only got one scene in the entire sequel trilogy with Luke and Leia (the OG Skywalkers and you only had them in one fucking scene together? Goddammit), but that force ghost scene at the end with the two of them made me happy - it was a bittersweet happiness, but happiness all the same (also, since it is canon that force ghosts get to chill and rest and be happy in the afterlife, I am more than happy with that ending. It also makes me want to write a ton of fanfiction. Stay tuned for that). I also burst into tears when Leia died and Maz stood near her bedside and whispered, “Goodbye, Princess.” Wow, that did things to my heart!
Ian McDiarmid continues to be a goddamn delight to watch as Palpatine, and he was genuinely creepy and horrific in this movie. I still feel like bringing Palpatine back to life (albeit in zombified form) was a real slap in the face to the perfect ending of ROTJ (and it especially cheapens Anakin’s role as the Chosen One, which is really a slap in the face for me), but they did it as best they could. I think I would’ve preferred if Palpatine was in spirit form in this movie, trying to come back to life by using Rey as a conduit or a body? Something like that would’ve honored the end of ROTJ a bit more while also bringing him back as the big villain.
All in all, I liked TROS much more than I hated it, especially since I had pretty low expectations going in. I’ve talked about the big “reveals” and moments so far, but I really liked the little things in this movie! For example:
Rey, Finn, and Poe were a full-on OT3 trio in this movie, and I loved it! The mission to find the wayfinder in the desert? Adventures! Chase scenes! Exploring! Jokes! I loved it - it was definitely giving me “Tatooine in ROTJ” vibes. They all kind of wandered apart in the second half of the movie, but they came back together at the end for that hug!! Which made me cry buckets!! (Poe holding Rey’s hand as they both hug Finn??? Wow, OT3 goals, they are so in love)
Chewie and Lando were great! Lando felt a little random in this movie (no explanation as to where he was? No mention of Han’s death?), but I always appreciate Billy Dee Williams, so I’m not complaining.
In that same vein, WEDGE CAMEO!!! They got Denis Lawson back, and right after I got back on my Wedge/Luke wagon! Damn, I wish we could’ve seen more of him (maybe there are some deleted scenes??? Listen, I neED MORE WEDGE IN MY LIFE).
And again in the same vein as cameos, um, that Jedi voice scene??? Listen, ok, hearing Hayden’s voice again was more than I ever thought we would get, I was sO EMOTIONAL, I heard him and almost immediately burst into tears. And they got Ewan and Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson(!!!), and the voice actors for Ahsoka and Luminara and WOW I am super emotional, that was hands-down the best scene in the movie for me. I was so happy to hear all of them - the acknowledgement of the prequels and the rest of the Jedi, FINALLY, after 2 previous sequel movies that didn’t give a shit about them. FINALLY we got this. And you know what? I would’ve been even happier if they had shown their faces, but I will take it. I will fucking take it. (That being said: Oh, Disney Gods - please let Hayden return for flashbacks and/or hallucinations in the Obi-Wan series. Please. It’s all I want in life).
The confirmation that Leia trained as a Jedi and had a lightsaber - I almost full-on clapped in the theaters at that scene. And I loved the training sequence/flashback that they had with Luke and Leia - they actually showed them sparring and I loved it so much! It was amazing - why couldn’t they have included that earlier? (Cue me singing: “We could’ve had it allll!!!!!”).
Luke’s Force Ghost appearance really redeemed his character from the beating it got in TLJ. It was a short scene, but it felt so much more like the Luke Skywalker I know and love, and I’m glad that they gave Mark Hamill a chance to really play Luke again.
The end scene with the Resistance coming to help. It felt a little Endgame-ish to me (then again, that was arguably the best scene in Endgame), but we definitely came full circle from TLJ, where the Resistance was basically abandoned on Crait and nobody answered their distress call. In TROS, everybody answered their distress call.
I also like that C3PO had a bit more of a role! I really love R2 and C3PO, and I like that they kept to Lucas’ original vision of the two of them being the only ones to be in all 9 films. I also deeply appreciate R2 being with Leia when she died - that felt incredibly moving and appropriate, and also coming full circle from Leia’s first scene with R2 in ANH.
Finn being confirmed as Force-sensitive! Finally! Fucking 4 years since TFA and we finally got it - hallelujah.
I think that’s about it! Honestly, I’m just so high off of the endorphins of hearing Anakin and Obi-Wan and all of the Jedi again! That scene made the entire movie worth it for me.
But this is the end of the Skywalker Saga, and that makes me really sad. The one thing that I am really upset about with regards to this movie is that it literally ends the Skywalkers. At least if you end the original 6 movies with ROTJ, the implication is that Leia and/or Luke will continue the Skywalker lineage, and they will continue to be leaders and jedi and heroes - but when you add in the sequel trilogy...it just ends. Anakin’s grandson turns to the dark side and ends up (indirectly) killing Luke, Leia, and then himself. And THAT’S how the Skywalkers end? After the tragedy that was Anakin (and Padme’s) life, history just repeats itself and the family line ends? That’s...depressing. But I think that the sequel trilogy, in a way, is still very distant from the other 2 trilogies - in a way, it reminded me of a weird, high-budget delve into the EU that is technically canon, but doesn’t feel like it’s canon???
Either way, I’m happy to accept the sequel trilogy as pseudo-canon, but still apart from the original 6 movies. I’m glad that we got to see some, if not all, of the OT characters again. I wish we could’ve gotten more - out of the old and new characters - but what we got was okay, and I enjoyed the ride.
And now, I’m just going to go cry over the Skywalker family and read force ghost fanfiction :’)

Happy National Star Wars Day, everyone!
Last year, I commemorated this day by beginning a 14 week-long project, in which I reviewed all existing Star Wars movies. Of course, since Episode 9- Rise of Skywalker won’t be out until December, it will be a while longer before I can review that one.

FULL ENDGAME REVIEW
6.5/10 was ok but could’ve been a lot better in my opinion and by a lot better i mean
tony should’ve lived
-the russos are war criminals for what they did to tony alone. he had a family to go back to, JUST like clint. but i guess self sacrifice is cool, right?
-ever since iron man 3, tony’s story has essentially a dark twist to the “great power great responsibility” trope: the hero internalizes the motivating phrase (“don’t waste your life”), and let it interfere with their ability to take care of themself/open up to others. it started strong in iron man 3, got undermined in aou, got slightly more prevalent in the context of civil war, FINALLY got foreshadowed in infinity war. his arc was ultimately about letting other people HELP him with the responsibility he feels like he needs to carry
-until endgame threw it under the bus again. in an objectively cool way, yeah, but it still got thrown under the bus and i’m mad
-so now tony stark’s story is ultimately a tragedy. and i fucking hate it, man. he had happiness (but not really, because peter’s not there) for 5 years and that got snatched away from him too! he underwent so much trauma since his goddamn origin story and he had a few moments of peace, sure, but he died before he could fully reunite with his loved ones. and it SUCKS.
-god this is . this is like. if obi-wan kenobi went through All That but got really close to luke before he died and also never got any closure with anakin as a force ghost
-the russos have said, like outright, that thanos was a symbol of what tony’s been fearing of since 2012, the being that symbolized the root of his anxiety and ptsd. so what does tony do to defeat it? uhhh idk he dies i guess. but it’s okay! he can finally rest now!
-really great message there for the kids, right?
-also there was a whole sequence about him talking to his dad about not abandoning his kid and being there for her. but now he CAN’T be there for morgan because tony stark is fucking gone and dead and i can’t fucking handle this he deserves so much better
-also also not to be a DudeBroGeek™ but he totally got nerfed during his fight scenes

-my whole theater laughed at him being . fat. and i was SUPER SUPER SUPER uncomfy the entire time
-he has a PANIC ATTACK and people LAUGHED i mean way to treat more of your mentally ill characters like shit, russos! sure! just devaluate thor’s suffering by saying “oh he’s fat so it’s funny now! hehe!” FUCK you
-i mean, yikes, i can’t believe we went from iron man 3 (where mental illness is one of the major problems the protagonist clearly struggles with, where tony’s panic attacks are disturbingly real and in no way funny) to THIS SHIT
-don’t even get me STARTED on his arc. like from thor 1 to dark world it’s about putting aside his arrogance for the good of his people. for ragnarok it’s finally stepping up and finding his powers while taking up the responsibility as king. in infinity war i was able to turn a blind eye to it, but it’s so prevalent in endgame how little the russos care about thor’s journey in his movies
-in the end he passes off the responsibility he took up in ragnarok to val and just straight up fucked off to space. like what the hell, man?
-ALSO . loki said the sun would shine on them again but the sun DIDN’T fucking shine on them and i feel robbed. i feel like the russos broke into my home and stole something important.
-the brodinsons deserve better.
-how can taika even be there, like physically. i mean. the thor from his movie got entirely retconned

-so why did he go back in time when two full movies were dedicated to him adapting to the future

-i don’t actually have much to say about steve, i’m not as attached to his character as tony and thor but it still rubs me the wrong way. maybe it makes more sense to steve stans but from what i’ve seen they’re PISSED even though out of the trio he got the most time to shine in battle lmao

-nat wasn’t there for the admittedly cheesy but still sort of nice girl-power shot
-wong did nothing until the final battle. like him surviving the snap did nothing to impact the story
-why was okoye even on the poster? she should’ve gotten a bigger role imo
-WHAT was dr strange even doing holding back the water
-my brother (who watched the movie with me) thought that the lgbt rep in the movie was “america’s ass” rather than the gay russo in steve’s support group, which just goes to show that the lgbt rep is SO small and the media should really stop hyping it up. not really salt towards the movie itself but it’s still salt
-fortnite
general saltiness out of the way, i’m going to list what i did like about the movie
-those posts going around about how knowing the spoilers take away from the movie are actually really, really wrong. i went in knowing more than half the plot including who lives and dies and i still found it entertaining, to say the least. the movie had a lot of effort put into making it and it really shows. if you ignore the parts you don’t like, you can actually kick back and have a relatively good time
-also the action was really, really good. throughout the entire movie. it’s an avengers film, so the action has to be good, but the fights were still super awesome and a lot were actually a cut above the rest of the mcu (especially the melee fights)
-the final battle was amazing. up until the end, i was on the edge of my seat, because even though it’s another “big final battle against an army of cgi monsters” i actually really really liked it. pretty much everything was perfect about it, and it was so fun to watch the theater go ham whenever a hero did something badass.
-the score. god, the score. alan silvestri did so good with calling back motifs from other solo mcu movies (something marvel should’ve been doing the entire time). ant man’s theme after scott pops out of the quantum realm, captain america’s march when tony hands the shield back to steve, the reprise of “even for you” from infinity war during clint and nat’s mission to vormir, captain marvel’s theme when she blows up thanos’ ship? beautiful
-the actors did a superb job with everything they were given (which probably wasn’t that much). since the russos were paranoid about spoilers apparently no one knew who they were talking to which sucked? because the marvel cast is pretty good at improv lines. but the actors still did a REALLY good job despite this (and really do carry the movie). i felt in my BONES tony’s frustration and anger at steve during the wheelchair scene, thor’s pain and self-loathing when he reunited with frigga, and peter’s DESPAIR when he watched tony die (i will never be okay ever)
-the callbacks to previous mcu movies were fanservice, yeah, but it was the GOOD kind of fanservice in that it was really really cool and served the fans. it’s a great way for the last movie in the infinity saga to end, by revisiting some of the iconic places it touched on before
-tony and nebula! they were only together for the first scene of the movie but the scene with paper football was really soft and nice
-the civil war conflict was glossed over save for that one scene of tony going the fuck off on steve and i couldn’t be more grateful
-MORGAN STARK. god if i had the capacity to cry i’d be sobbing through writing this entire post. morgan and her soft dad made my heart MELT into pieces i love them 3000
-they still deserved better though
-scott. like in general. he was one of the highlights of the movie. his reunion with cassie was :’)
-carol’s haircut
-by the way a lot of people complained about her makeup in her first scene with the avengers shown in the trailers but it literally wasn’t a problem for any other carol scene in the movie (because that was the only scene in the entire runtime where she was wearing noticeable lipstick/eyeshadow or whatever)
-professor hulk. i actually didn’t expect to like him, but he made a lot of actually funny jokes and i liked his personality contrast with 2012 hulk. also he made scott tacos! he’s really wholesome and i’m willing to ignore the part where he dabbed
-the mark 85 is one of my favorite iron man suits now, even though it didn’t get a lot of screentime
-speaking of which it’s REALLY great how most of the time when tony saves the day it’s because of his smarts. it brings back the main theme of the character: tony stark, the human, plays ball with gods, aliens, and monsters just by being quick witted.
-the entire sequence of tony, steve, and scott getting the scepter and the tesseract was PURE gold. (it’s my favorite part of the movie honestly)
-tony: ok scott to create a distraction i need you to put my past self into cardiac arrest. \ scott: uhh. uhh ok dude?? \ tony: my self loathing is this strong
-rhodey and nebula! they were an awesome teamup and i really really liked their friendship/dynamic
-PEPPER IN RESCUE ARMOR. WE DIDN’T GET ENOUGH OF THAT BUT IT WAS SO GOOD I LOVED IT HER ARMOR DESIGN WAS REAL GREAT
-tony reuniting with peter. i teared up. legit. i teared up.
-thanos: *headbutts carol* \ carol: *doesn’t even move an inch*
-wanda was so badass in her 10 second scene. i just thought it was really cool
-peter using instant kill mode
-tony using the gauntlet was badass. i hated it but it was SO amazing at the same time i wanted to cry and cheer at the same time so i ended up in a semi catatonic state for the rest of the day
-the little wreath with the first arc reactor, morgan craving cheeseburgers, tony’s last message.....;-;
-i love you 3000.....:((((((
-SAM GETTING TO BE CAP. (this was one of the best parts of the all-new all-different avengers comic) even though i still don’t like steve’s ending, i love that sam is going to take up the mantle (and i’m super excited to see the falcon winter soldier show now)
-the movie ended with the soundtrack of tony building the mark 1 solidifying that none of this would’ve happened without iron man. good thing endgame credits said that maybe tony stan lives do matter
-a rat is responsible for saving half the universe and i find that REALLY funny. my favorite theory is that the rat was loki the whole time and that doubles the hilarity
tldr: the movie had an ending that didn’t really fit the characters, but the rest of it was fun to watch: the action scenes were great, the interactions between the characters were mostly good, and it’s overall pretty entertaining as a film by itself. as a closing to the infinity saga it feels unsatisfying, but as a movie it’s enjoyable

tlj: first (and prob last) impressions
man, it was disappointing. where’s the structure? is this a sequel? I saw no cohesion between tfa and this “praised risk taker”. even less continuity if you take the whole saga into aspect.
in case anyone cares, people will probably assume I didn’t like “the new empire strikes back” cough that’s a joke they should’ve included because of a few well-used assumptions.
a) I can’t embrace anything new. um, wrong, I’m not an OT stan or anything. tbf, I’m not that big or long of a star wars fan overall so my take on this movie was quite objective and “unnostalgic”. tfa pretty much made me interested in the franchise, the one you call “a reboot” (but the movie that was probably a shoe in to star wars for so many younger generations).
b) you’re not a real star wars fan if you don’t like it. wow, ugh, just wow. have you ever heard of preference? +if you can’t criticize or see the ups AND downs in a franchise you love and want to be as well made as possible, you don’t truly care for it...that’s just me. (although I do think sw fans are too belittling and toxic toward the content, I’m talking about non-extreme critique and not nitpicking)
c) your theories or speculations didn’t come true. nah, I don’t really care about what happens, just how and why it happens, and if it actually serves the story or not. but seriously did I know rian was gonna come up with this I deffo would’ve linked him to few selected tumblr/reddit posts that can use the past, present AND future of the saga creatively, without it seeming like delusion or a fanfilm.. a cringy vibe I got so many times watching tlj.
I would write a whole review but I’m sort of seeing it as an impossible task considering this movie consisted of 1h unnecessary content...a bit difficult to take anything seriously when there’s slapstick every 5 min. oh also, hard when there are so little scenes that stuck out to me from it (mainly yoda/luke and the poor sister sacrifice in the beginning ho ho). oh and maybe the extremely fanfic reylo ‘force bond’ which SHOULD’VE been handled in a completely different way and went into ep IX. they completely butchered the grey jedi and went back to old ‘good vs evil’ - what. the. fuck. wow, that’s risk-taking indeeeedd.
other inclusions were: a complete disregard of rey’s /previous/ personality and development (maybe it was her clone), an annoying af poe, a dora the explorer adventure with finnrose, a suicidal luke, a laughable snoke who got a stroke, a sidelined general leia, a predictably irrelevant phasma, an unrelatable crylo ren and last but not least A VERY UNDERAPPRECIATED HUX. is it bad I’m rooting for the nazi at this point?
on the other hand, mark/kelly/dohmnall/adam had the best performances with the weird script they were given.
geeez I’m just missing obi-wan, glad he wasn’t included though cause he would’ve been handled just as badly as most of these characters... I’ll be waiting for that oscar-worthy solo film in 2020 blESS.
