this might be a mix of personalities + (english) voices but 2021 smurfs feel like they have more prominent age differences? whereas 80s smurfs felt more or less the same. not major gaps just enough you can clearly sort them into older - middle - younger categories (like siblings). anyways i haven't thought of everyone but
older: hefty, farmer, smurfette, chef
middle: jokey, vanity, poet, handy
younger: greedy, painter, timid

*twirls hair* hiii bestie, are you watching the rings of power/will you watch it? 👀👀
I'm still reading the silmarillion because I haven't really had the time to read much since college started and the book is Dense, lol, but I did watch the first episode and I didn't... like it?
I mean. It doesn't feel like a show that had a billion dollars invested in it (except for the fact that the cgi is very good). It felt very empty and ordinary, I guess - that's the only way I can describe it.
the girl hobbits (technically harfoots, but you get the idea) were very fun though, lol <3
(Is there a reason why all the old guy elves have wrinkles while galadriel doesn't. Interesting that women aren't allowed to have wrinkles, I guess. Please do not come for me if I have my facts wrong from canon, I barely know anything.)

Have you watched breaking bad?
I've watched... circa three and a half seasons? I got back into it after I started watching Better Call Saul with my father (I haven't finished that one either). I can't remember what last happened in either of them, if I'm honest; it's been months. they're obviously well-made shows on all the technical levels, I appreciate them a lot while I watch them, and there's a handful of great character in each show. but I don't continue thinking about them when I'm done, so you'll rarely, if ever, see much about them here.

looking back on everything that’s happened wrt james somerton, part of me has got to wonder what hbomb’s and his viewers’ *real* problem with him was. when you see stories like this, and maybe I’m just cynical having been on the internet for too long, most people who get cancelled like this are kind of weird in some way. or people just don’t like them.
idk if you’ve ever watched “the traitors” before, but often the people who get voted out early don’t make eye contact or are slightly a bit weird. and people make up all sorts of conspiracy theories about why they can’t trust them, and blah blah blah. but it’s actually just a kind of “ick” fundamentally. these stories can be that, or they can be a kind of professional jealousy, or they can be “who’s the most marginalized in the marginalized pile”, or they can be smurfette syndrome (“there’s only room for there to be one gay disney youtuber, and by god, it’s gonna be me”). and beyond all that, it’s fun to be part of a mob.
maybe this is just growing pains on my end realizing that I used to have that tendency and over-indexing in the other direction. I’m weirdly sympathetic to villains. but john ronson points this out in his book, that the internet never doles out the correct amount of punishment. all things considered, plagiarism is a misdemeanor. ripping off articles and YouTube videos is a sin, but it’s a venial sin. he may have harmed people, but he didn’t hurt people if that makes any sense.
there’s a very good piece by malcolm gladwell in the New Yorker archive from like 10 or 15 years ago about how he doesn’t personally believe plagiarism to be that big of a deal. it’s very interesting and basically the lynchpin of his argument is that there isn’t any copyright on ideas. it’s not about the ideas, it’s the execution. think of that scene in the social network when jesse eisenberg says to the fucked up looking winklewhatever twins, “if you were the inventors of Facebook, you’d have invented Facebook”
lot of this seems to be prefaced on the idea of people making money that they “don’t deserve”, which is a philosophical question beyond the scope of this post.

King Arthur 20th anniversary celebration, 1-7 July 2024
King Arthur turns 20 on 7 July 2024! This is an interest check for a potential celebration event to be held here on Tumblr and on AO3 in the week running up to the anniversary - please let me know if you're interested! I'm thinking of a week of prompts, much like other themed fests, with a few prompts per day (home, love, loyalty, etc) and some alternates.
If enough people are interested I'll make an event blog, and if anyone fancies helping me mod the event, that would be great. Also, if anyone out there with graphic skills would like to make some banners, that would also be awesome, since (as you can probably tell) I have the graphic skills of a brick.
There is already an AO3 collection for the anniversary, run by the lovely sasha_b, so if anyone wants to post anything there outside the first week in July please feel free!
And if you're not familiar with the movie - if you like angsty OT3s, ride-and/or-die brothers in arms, badass women warriors, a lot of UST and a good bit of snark, this may be the movie for you! It's not exactly faithful to the legends, it suffers from Smurfette syndrome and doesn't get anywhere near even a Bechdel test pass, and it does have its wobbly story issues and a good few daft plotholes, but it's enormous amounts of fun and has so much scope for fannish interpretations, transformations and extensions. The cast includes Clive Owen, Keira Knightley, Ioan Gruffudd, Joel Edgerton, Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Winstone, Ray Stevenson, Stellan Skarsgård, Til Schweiger and Ken Stott, many of whom went on to much bigger things...
So...come and join the little fandom that could as we celebrate TWENTY YEARS of our beloveds!
Please reblog and signal boost - and if you were in the fandom when the movie was released please come and say hi! I was going by another name at the time (trinityc) and I'd love to get back in touch!

So I saw a few people do there own Smurfs au and I thought to myself why can't I? So this is based on a dream I had but what if Smurfette wasn't created alone. And what if Vanity, Jokey, Clumsy and Brainy were also Smurfettes created by Gargamel.
I mean Smurfette represents Lust
Vanity is Vain
Jokey is a Pranskter
Clumsy is adorable innocent but destructive
And Well Brainy he is known for a lot of trouble.
All these qualities can make them Naughties as well. Now this au is a Blend of the Cartoon and live action movie. Not the lost village.
Without further ado here are the girls
Tumblr media
Vanity Smurfette
Second Eldest right after Smurfette. Gargamel named her after she wouldn't stop staring at herself in his mirrors. As a Naughty her Vainess is 100%. To the point where she would call her own Sisters ugly. However deep down she had some insecurities. This all changed when she was forced to hang out with Farmer. At First the Naughty hated working in the fields. However Farmer always treated her like a lady. And she had to admit to herself that he was very attractive. Because of his Kindness towards her she decided she wanted to become a real Smurfette.
She has a crush on Farmer but isn't to sure he actually notices her. ( He does he just to shy to approach a beautiful woman)
Her phobia is 🐍.
Favorite color Purple 💜

Jokey Smurfette
Like her actual male canon character this girl loves Jokes and playing pranks. Even on her own Father Gargamel. Third Sister in line she sometimes felt completely invisible so she would do pranks to get attention. She suffers from Middle child syndrome definitely. When she gets to Smurf village she is helping her sister Smurfette wreck things in the village. However she still tried to make them laugh. She would exceed at almost all of them except a certain grump. No matter how hard she tried he would not laugh. This frustrated her. However she decided to make it her life goal. To make Grouchy Smurf laugh. It wasn't until he cracked a tiny smile that she decided she wanted to be a true Smurfette.
She has a crush on Grouchy, however she feels he will never feel the same way. ( He does his ego won't let him show it)
Oh and to Vexy and Grouchy shippers 😔. At first I shipped them too but now I feel the romance was rushed way too fast so I'm Pairing her with Marina. ( Vexy x Marina)
Phobia= 🤡 ( ironic I know)
Favorite color= Yellow 💛

Tumblr media
Clumsy Smurfette
Probably the most innocent thing in the entire world. Even when she was a naughty. Gargamel called her a mistake because of her innocent nature. When she arrived at Smurf village she didn't really want to cause trouble however trouble just seemed to follow her. She would accidentally wreck everything in sight. Being second youngest also meant her sisters were a bit protective of her. Of course she was always hurt by Vanity mean words ( she apologized once they all became true Smurfettes) To her surprise Handy seemed to like having her around cause even after accidently broke something she was willing to fix it immediately. When The Smurfs found out the Smurfettes were all Naughties. Hefty and Handy took it the hardest. Seeing Handy cry make Clumsy want to be a real Smurfette
She has a crush on Handy but is too shy to pursue it. She held it back when He started Dating Marina but when Marina broke up with him and starting Dating Vexy she fell in love with him again ( Handy did like her but he just fell for Marina he fell for Clumsy later though)
Phobia= 🕷️
Favorite color= Green 💚
Now for my personal favorite
Tumblr media
Brainy Smurfette
She is the youngest of the Smurfettes something her older sisters minus Clumsy who she is very close to do. Because of this from the beginning she tried to act older than she was. Like Clumsy she was often bullied by Vanity however unlike her she didn't take it lying down. Her sisters were pretty overprotective of her at First. Now when she was created she was blind at first. She got her name through her personality not her glasses. Because of her blindness and brash personality she was causing the most trouble. Papa smurf however could tell something wasn't right and after the Smurfette collided with Gutsy Smurf even though she was right in front of him he relaized want was wrong. He gave her glasses so she could see. After that Brainy came to respect the village leader and even was interested in the magic he did. Because of Papas kindness and totally not cause she didn't want to be left out or cause she had a teeny crush on the Smurf she fell on she decided she wanted to be a real Smurfette
She has a TEENY crush on Gutsy Smurf. If you ask or tell her she loves him be prepared for a hours long speech on how there not compatible ( she is obviously lying of course 😊)
Gutsy likes her too but like Brainy don't tell him unless you want to be smurfed out of the village)
Phobia= 🌑
Favorite color= Red ❤️
And that's there story everything else plays out the same In the cartoon and movie with a few exceptions of course.
I decided to make there Birthday Smurfette debut.
Nov 21 ( not sure what year the smurfs took place)
There zodiac is Scorpio ♏
Thanks so much for reading ☺️ I hope you like them.
Smurfs don't belong to me and neither do these actually there just an Au version of them.

My Beef With Barbara Gordon
I'll start off by saying this isn't any hate post to the character, merely an analysis because although she's never really stood out to me, i believe she's an interesting character and I'd like to share my point of view and if possible hear others' takes on her too
the basics, babs is the daughter of commissioner gordon and the first batgirl, later taking on the mantle of oracle (usually because of the killing joke thing, which I'll address later on)
usually the reason i don't get along with most representations of babs is because she's mostly written to be "the girl bat" instead of "the bat girl". I've only seen some clips from btas but i can mostly tell that's the case. it's a smurfette syndrome classic. i apologize if I'm getting the wrong idea out of it, though, as i said, I didn't watch the series.
when she's not written as such, she can be a good character. i love her version of the harley quinn show, i think it fits what I'd usually expect out of batgirl//oracle, a computer nerd who wants to help people and might be a little impulsive, but means well. though there's not much media of her where she's like that.
and although she's not exactly like that in the lego batman movie, i think that version is also pretty good (not when she's introduced, i think she gets better when she shows bruce that she's batgirl and yk, badass and such). not a computer nerd and also a bit older, but i think she's pretty neat.
I'll admit the fact she gets with bruce in the timmverse (specifically in the timmverse) pisses me off... age gap things are not my thing and it feels like grooming, i believe that's why it's not a very popular ship for either but the fact it's official in at least one dc media makes me sweat (cough cough and they say superbat is a stretch cough cough /j)
like i just mentioned with the lego batman movie, i have no problem with it when they're about the same age or, idk, at least he doesn't meet her as a teen or whatever. I'm not crazy for finding this weird, right?
and there's the fact she dated dick on the timmverse as well, which makes me even MORE uncomfortable. if it was me dating my father's previous lover, for example, I'd probably take that as a weird thing. dick is already traumatized enough, thank you very much.
and also she's bruce's friend's daughter? that's not so weird, i myself have friends who are way older or way younger, but it be creepy af to see one of them dating someone my age, specially if it was someone close to me, I'd be very concerned and it'd take a while for me to get used to it.
but yeah, if it's an au or multiverse shenanigans, it can be alright.
and then comes the killing joke thing... honestly, I don't know what to do out of it. I'm a new dc fan, I've been for nearly six months now, and I can't really decide how to feel about it.
on one hand, oracle is badass and shows that it doesn't take superpowers or immense dexterity or inhuman strength to be a hero. i respect her a lot, and when she's written well like in wfa, i appreciate her character as is.
but the killing joke itself... it doesn't make much out of barbara, and focuses more on her father and personally i think that sucks. i know it must hurt for a dad to see his daughter paralyzed, but joker using it as a means to make him snap doesn't seem, idk, very jokery. even with the picture things, i think babs in that situation is used more as a plot device than as a character and it makes me uncomfortable idk.
and then they made her able to walk again...? honestly that's where i lost it. there are too many versions of batgirl//oracle in my head already and that just made me more confused??
so the reason I don't like her as much is because she lacks consistency, every time I'm reading about her i gotta guess which version is it and every single piece feels more like au fanfiction of itself. like, okay, i do enjoy those, but if I'm seeking something official it's hard to understand where it's at.
but i still love her with every cell in my body when she's written like the true sarcastic girlboss that she is <3

I thought I'd make one of these to see if I find more like-minded writers ^-^
I want to read stories that put the focus on women. By personal inclination, it’s what I’m interested in, both in regards to reading and to writing. I seek new stories with a central female lead that gets to be writing as a lead, as the subject in the story –NOT as the object of desire or obsession of a male love interest that steals the limelight from her. I, in particular, want to find stories about women, plural. The Smurfette Syndrome is something I find more and more irksome each day that passes, so what I want to read most are stories about relationships between women. These can be of any kind: sismances, romantic relationships, psychosexual obsessions between enemies, messed-up family dynamics... you name it.
When it comes to genre choices, I diversify more when it comes to reading than to writing. But in the end, my one true love remains the fantasy genre. I’m particularly interested in high fantasy, in stories set in fictional worlds of your invention, but as long as the premise interests me, I am game for any subgenre you can name. I like sci-fi, mysteries, and horror, as well as other subgenres I’m a bit more particular about, like comedy or non-fiction (although I’d be surprised to find that in tumblr; if you have a non-fiction WIP, you’d probably get me hooked by the sheer novelty).
Although there’s nothing wrong with an everywoman getting thrown to the deep end in a supernatural plot, and I’ll gladly read those stories if they catch my eye, I like my special snowflake protagonists. All kinds of creatures, witches, political leaders, goddesses, (in)famous outlaws, etc. I like grandiose stories, and they usually come with the territory.
Give me your unlikeable women. There’s nothing I crave more than stories that allow their female characters to behave in truly awfuly, ugly ways.
I don’t necessarily mind romance, if it’s well-written and it doesn’t come with tropes I despise or find annoying on the long run (oblivious mutual pinning, relentless pursuers, super macho dom guys paired with meek shy submissive girls incapable of standing up for themselves...). But my preferences at this moment are a.) little to no focus on romance, or b.) tragic romance, especially between women.
I am looking for stories geared towards adult audiences. This doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be super sexually explicit or violent; people often confuse those two things (and for the record, I’m very comfortable with high rated content. Give me some warning if you truly think it’s necessary, but otherwise, if I need to put something down I’ll do it myself just fine). What I want is stories that, well. Treat me like an adult xD
I love descriptive, atmospheric, quasi purple prose, but it’s not a requirement. I’m just putting it here because if this is what you veer towards, and feel self-conscious about it, I’m your gal.

better call saul’s smurfette syndrome is so bad. this is an unpopular opinion, but while i obviously wouldn’t call either show feminist, breaking bad was much better when it came to writing women.
I think the (veeeeery few) prominent in each show are well-written (all like. three of them...), and those more secondary are effective, even if they obviously don't have as much depth... but with Better Call Saul I've literally had the thought "they don't even have enough women to fridge them 🙄" before. so xDD
