No hate to jimin, I love him to death, but I do find him quite boring too, music and stages aside cause they are always great. I find it funny that people call him it boy and he’s always number 1 in that influence ranking or whatever that is, when he doesn’t care about social media and his style outside the stage is quite basic (not every clothing ofc, and there’s nothing wrong with basic, i’m a basic myself). And I think part of this high standard people put him is due to the way his solo stans see him, not to be patronizing but I think a lot of them only see him as this sexy guy and don’t care about one word he says or sings, as long as he’s making numbers and being their it boy.

right like. like i don’t necessarily agree with all your point like his styling - i think jimin has a rly fun and leisurely sense of style that’s yeah not super flashy but he knows how to dress and what looks good on him - but like. jimin is one of my biases yes but im also rly comfortable admitting that he’s BASIC as HELL and that’s FINE. he’s the It Boy of my heart but the guy obviously seems to want as little social presence as possible. hes never on social media, he keeps his private life to himself, he doesn’t share what he’s into save for the very rare occasion he shares something offhandedly. n there IS this weird expectation and assumption of casual and continued social presence from fans that simply isn’t there….. like sure he has the influence of what would make an It Boy but that really only comes from how popular he is rather than any remarkable or sustained presence. and again, its totally fine! privacy and normalcy are obviously things that are really important to him. this too i think goes back to what jimin has spoken abt on his relationship with fame and identity and whats reflected in most of his work so far. and like. i don’t wanna be a downer and pretend i know anything about what he thinks. but if it were ME putting my all into my work like he does and the only thing my fans took away from it was a minimal interaction i had with my coworker and how it was proof we’re fucking or smt or every time i went online i see ppl talking about how ugly they find me like YEAH i wouldn’t want to share much about my life on the internet either and id probably have a really warped and fractured sense of my personhood. idk its very much in the same lane of kpop stans claiming their fave is buff or has an ass like he DOESNT he doesn’t and its OK you don’t need to lie to urself …. why not pay attention to the stuff that they actually do or the way they actually are instead of treating this like fanfiction. i think some fans DO need to be patronized tbh bcs the way they view their faves is itself patronizing even if they might mean well.

I'm surprised people see Tadashi as the victim in his relationship with Ainosuke, when it's Tadashi the one who time and time again takes away Ainosuke's agency, without being able to see that he is throwing him unto unhappiness. I can't help but think that if Tadashi was not working at Shindo's house, Ainosuke would have maybe left or broke with the family. But he can't do that if he wants the relationship with Tadashi going on, seing how Tadashi is set on enforcing the family rules...

Hmm.. I def agree with the fact that Tadashi is not what most fandom makes out of him, my man (I mean, Adam’s man) is a 100% Slytherin. But I disagree with blaming him for this, after all the revealed info. The environment they were both raised in made their situation complicated.

I like Tadashi a lot, he’s probably my fav thing about this anime, bc he’s a dark horse, and I’m once again surprised, that so little ppl see him for who he really is, portraying him as an innocent puppy, which he is definitely not.

Now to why I think both Tadashi and Adam are victims of the dad and aunties in this situation.

We can of course say “if only they told each other how they really feel...”, but like we can say it about any love story really. Every author knows it’s no fun. The truth is that yes, they both hurt each other, and yes, if they were honest about their feelings things would’ve been different, but as I’ve already wrote under that “toxic” commentary on YT, lets look at the whole situation from both of their point of views:

We know that Adam when he was little always treated Tadashi as an equal, he never ever thought of him as someone lower than him and after their fall out, the only reason for this “harsh” treatment (well, besides their confirmed kink) was that Adam tried to get a reaction out of him, so Tadashi would stand up for himself, bc Ainosuke got mad about Tadashi caving to his dad’s wishes and abandoning him, when he needed him the most.

But now, knowing the fact that Tadashi was his dad’s secretary and was under his control, let’s see it from his perspective: Tadashi wanted to stay by Adam’s side, Adam’s dad implied that if Tadashi did say smth, he’s gonna be.. well, dismissed and they won’t see each other ever again. That’s what caused Tadashi to stay silent in that moment. Ainosuke instead saw this as a “he’s not on my side” thing, well, because. Tadashi won’t tell him his problem, bc dad and aunties control everything, so even if he does tell him, what a teen would do really? He didn’t have any powers back then to make his dad do anything.

And that’s when it all gone to shit, since they both were hurt for their own reasons. It’s easy to say leave the family, but 1stly nobody explained to Adam still that he’s physically and psychologically abused by his family, he sees it as them “loving him” and sadly also loves them, bc nobody told him, that love wasn’t supposed to be like that really. He definitely feels that smth is not right and feels emotionally exhausted there bc of this treatment, but did he ever consider leaving? I really don’t think so. He feels obligated to be worthy of a family, who “loves” him.

Do you think, for example, that Akashi Seijuro hates his dad for what he did to him? No. Does he understand that he wasn’t at fault for what happened to him and that his dad instead of comforting his child after his mother’s death, who was his only safe haven, made everything worse? I don’t think he does. Like his mom gave him basketball, an escape from all that family’s obligations and strictness. After her death, it was the only thing left that brought him joy, but his dad ruined even that, saying that if he’s gonna be bad at it/lose, he’d take it away from him too. Does Akashi see this as emotional abuse? No, he sees it like “well, I have to be the best bc I was born in such powerful family, so if my dad says that I must be best at everything, then I must.”

I personally hate such parents a lot. To me it doesn’t matter if Adam’s dad didn’t know about aunties hitting his child. Like if he was too busy to notice this and have no time for his kid and made his childhood miserable, it doesn’t make it any better really.

Same as with Akashi’s dad. Some are like “he was probably also grieving about his wife”. Emm? He was like this from the beginning, bc he treated Akashi not as his son, but as his heir. And yes, that’s different things. Same with Endeavor and Todoroki. Your child is not your post production thing.

2ndly they were too young, even if they knew about each others feelings and he didn’t feel obligated and told everyone to fuck off, they’d be on the streets now, but also Adam’s dad doesn’t seem like a guy who’d leave them alone really. Also eloping seems very romantic, but I don’t think it is, esp when you’re teens. Did you want him to sell some expensive watch and go live on Hawaii or smth? Bc finding a decent job there would be difficult at this age, esp with everyone knowing who your dad is. Chen Ke from “Antidote” survived bc he was 27 and had connections and some great friends. Adam was in high school, where would he go exactly?

Now let’s go back to now. Obviously all this time it didn’t even cross Tadashi’s mind that for Ainosuke he comes first and that he would throw everyone under the bus to make Tadashi stay with him. As we see at the end, he legit believed that Adam was planning to send him to jail and didn’t get that he said it just to shaken he up and that he knew who he’d set up for this from the beginning.

To Adam obviously it doesn’t matter whether they’re in a quarrel or not, he would never him go. Yes, he’s mad at him, he’s angry and hurt, but Tadashi’s still the person he needs the most, he’s still the person who brightens his days, even tho he deliberately behaves like he annoys him. He always looks at him and looks at him and looks at him, but then hisses smth to hurt him. Bc he knows that he needs him, but he also hates that he needs him, bc he thinks it’s unrequited.

And that’s how their classic romance goes in hellish circles. No one wants to talk as usual. Adam is mad Tadashi is like that bc his dad turned him into a slave with no opinion, while Tadashi is scared that Adam would be taken away from him bc of his ugly family.

Now I still think that no one and I mean no one can take Tadashi from Adam now, he is his precious. So my plan is... if Tadashi made aunties do smth against him or to get rid of him, aunties will go for sure. The problem is Tadashi still doesn’t get that he comes first, so we’re stuck in this hell still.

So anyways, my point is Adam’s heart basically sings “you got a hold of me, don’t even know your power” to Tadashi, but he doesn’t hear it, bc of his insecurities, the way he was raised and his status. But yes, he holds all the power. He’s both Adam’s sanity and insanity. No matter how cheesy it sounds he was basically his only ray of sunshine in the darkness, if you take it away, that’s what it leads to, that’s why Ainosuke-sama needs more ppl who care for him. I don’t want anyone to die next time, just cause Tadashi and Adam fought about where to put their new couch lmao. I’m kidding, but you know what I mean. And kill the aunties, pls seriously, we need to be free.

Also ppl need to remember that like lots of animes/characters are parcially inspired by some other animes/characters, also the chosen seiyuus are also very important, there are lots of stuff like jokes and references, that creators use, from characters being fully inspired by smth like “Assassination classroom” characters based on KNB, to little stuff like Levi dressed in Akashi’s uniform in chibi AOT bc Hiroshi Kamiya. Utsumi already said before stuff like she sometimes think of a perfect voice for the character and then fully forms him, we also know her clear love for sports animes. So yes, I doubt Tadashi/Kuroko thing is a coincidence and even tho someone was like “zone? is this knb or smth?” I was like no, zone is actually a common thing in sports, even tho most associate it with KNB including me, it’s not like its their invention, but there were things inspired by this for sure, and from other sports animes too and no, I don’t mean the basic sports anime tropes, I mean, like way too specific things, some character designes, too. And yes, Langa appearence and personality wise is a rinharu child for real, I can literally split his scenes in “that’s Haru”, “that’s Rin”.

That’s why I’ve said that this situation in fandom reminds me of Kuroko/Akashi situation a lot, bc same as here in KNB ppl for some reason automatically thought that Kuroko is this innocent sheep and Akashi is the wolf (but also like it was Akashi who chose to dress as red riding hood, while Kuroko was a wolf lmao), not even seeing who is in reality more dangerous and who can easily control who. It just buffles me bc it’s not some deep analisys really. I mean once again there’s a reason for the saying that the sub holds all the power over the dom.

And like just bc someone yells or threatens ppl constantly doesn’t necessarily mean he is a psycopatic killer, and just bc someone is quiet and doe-eyed, doesn’t mean he isn’t. I didn’t think we needed to explain this to someone, but aparently we do?

And it honestly kills me just how superficially ppl are watching things these days. It really gives me war flashbacks to stuff like the last mdzs s1 episode, where ppl started to comment things like “how LZ can be so heartless” lmao. Or that anonymous ask “do you think haru misses rin?”. Like you don’t see thing at all? Grey substance no needed, while watching things?

P.S. I also would die to see Adam vs Tadashi race just bc I for some reason can bet all my money, that it’s the same situation as with Akashi refusing to ankle break Kuroko, no matter how mad he is. I just can’t imagine Ainosuke hitting Tadashi in the face with a board. Like 100% sure he wouldn’t even try tbh.

i remember a while ago you made a post about ppl romanticizing george moving to florida and at the time i was like george will be fine. but i just saw this post that was talking about how dream grew up around ultra conservative view points and it got me thinking about how george would get along with dream’s family because apparently his mother is always there cooking and cleaning??? and i think it really hit me that when george moves there he really won’t have anyone besides dream and sapnap. it’s not like europe where he can get on a train and see his other friends. he can’t visit his own mom who he seems fairly close with. all his friends in america live on the other side of the country. they might as well live in europe because he’d have to fly to see them and he can’t drive. he won’t be able to go anywhere independently. the cultural difference is stark. and idk there’s something that creeps me out about dream’s mom coming over to cook for them. i don’t know why. it’s just so weird. like, do they live right next to each other??? is george going to have to sit through dinner every night with dream’s family??? his supposedly ultra conservative family. i’m suddenly getting horror movie vibes where george is just trapped in their house with dream and sap never come out of their rooms and george keeps running into dream’s mom who passive aggressively comments on how dainty his wrists are and starts asking him he supports national healthcare. and it’s just this nightmare where everything starts to fade together for george and he can no longer discern the days of the week. it’s like suburban hell.

sorry that really got away from me. i just got some weird secondhand anxiety thinking about it and i don’t know why i got fixated on dream’s mom taking care of them, but the more i thought about it the weirder it became.

bingqiu and headpats - an essay

or something... this is just me word vomiting after rereading chapter 49, have fun :)

so, for context, this is the chapter when luo binghe kisses shen qingqiu after shen qingqiu pats him on the head and there are some important points to make.

now there’s a whole ass paragraph in there going on about how much sqq loves to pat ppl on the head and there’s one sentence that’s something like “don’t touch a man’s head or a woman’s waist” and it barely makes sense tbh but it’s sqq, shit barely ever make sense in his head. what’s important here is three things:

1. shen qingqiu loves patting people’s head 2. he got the idea that he’s not supposed to pat people’s head 3. luo binghe always let him pat his head

there we need to clear one thing up:

what are headpats?

headpats are the most affectionate things in the world. based on the gay content i consumed, i’ve come to the conclusion that headpats are an “i like you” in gay. unfortunately, not everyone is aware of that (maybe it’s not even true but it makes sense if you consider that quote above) but i can 100% guarantee you that you can make a person’s heart flutter if you pat their head a lot more than a hug could ever do.

headpats not only make one’s heart flutter but also give comfort. it also means “you did well” and i know for a fact that this sentence could make many stressed af people cry (imagine a lbh who lost the only person who ever loved him and then gets him back... yeah...). usually the older is the one giving comfort to the younger bc parental instincts or whatever so it’s also extra heart fluttering when the younger gives it to the older uwu. anyways, headpats don’t only give comfort, they could also provide safety.

most importantly, it suggests that the person’s palm is resting on top of your head, the highest point of your body which calms you down and keeps you grounded. good for anxiety (if the person can be touched, please don’t touch an anxious/panicked person if they don’t give a sign that it’s ok you could alert them and make it worse) and easing nerves.

next, headpats from luo binghe’s point of view:

we have our white lotus precious sunshine half demon child who suffered through every shit possible before finally meeting this man whose attitude took a 180° turn. as said before, sqq LOVES patting people’s head and sqq always thought that binghe is a very cute boy so how could he resist just patting his head and ruffling his hair all the time? he can’t. he won’t. luo binghe is both touch starved and affection starved so this man is not only the first person who treated him well but also probably the first person who touched him with affection instead of beating him.

imagine this long suffered, touch and affection starved 14 years old luo binghe having his head patted by shen qingqiu for the first time. yes. i would fall in love on the spot too.

and after that, shen qingqiu keeps doing it because it’s what he does and luo binghe thinks he would get used to it by the time he’s 17 or smth but no??? it’s always the same fluttering feeling he gets in his heart, and it warms his whole body up and fills him with happiness and god, he never wants sqq to let go of him :(( it calms him down, comforts him, encourages him, makes him feel cared for and loved........ *cries*

moving on to the most interesting part, headpats from shen qingqiu’s point of view:

so shen qingqiu LOVES giving headpats and he finally found this adorable, enthusiastic little boy who lets him pat his head for all he wants (see the never wants him to let go part above). but sqq has his doubts because should he really pat the head of this half demon boi who would cut off his whole arm later on? yes. he keeps doing it anyways because yolo (his words not mine).

at first, he pats binghe’s head because “good little baby protagonist, grow strong, kill ppl, get women uwuwu shizun supports you pls remember not to kill me later”. and he doesn’t even notice it but he grows super attached to this kid, like the novel didn’t mention but i’d bet money that when he ditched binghe to the abyss, he would stare at his open palm and imagine what binghe’s head/hair felt like beneath his palm/fingers. because he did give him a lot of his love and affection so of course, he wouldn’t come out of this unscathed. headpats affect the giver too. everytime he patted binghe’s head, sqq would look at the way lbh’s eyes lit up and he relaxed under his touch because he trusted him so much, and hhhhhhhhhh shen qingqiu had no chance either, he’s just dumb af.

therefore!

at that moment, when shen qingqiu saw the sad and lonely grown up luo binghe and his arm moved automatically to give binghe his headpats that was not only because it became a routine born out of something he enjoyed doing. it was also from his strong desire to protect him (which we can see a lot in the second half of the novel), see his eyes bright and twinkling again instead of piercing and cold, to see a thoughtless and happy smile on his face again, to make him feel loved and cared for instead of lonely, to give him comfort, affection, whatever just to not see him like that anymore.

at that time, shen qingqiu’s arm moved to pat luo binghe’s head because he loved luo binghe very much (even if he didn’t realize it yet or if it wasn’t to that extent yet) and hated to see him so miserable, especially after knowing full well what luo binghe had to go through ever since he was born.

and at that time, luo binghe really couldn’t help but kiss him because even if that was only his own delusional dream, he could feel the real sqq for a moment, he could feel the same kind of warmth and comfort and affection that he fell in love with, and since shen qingqiu moved unconsciously, the movement came from his heart so it reached directly luo binghe’s heart who responded with his own.

actually, shen qingqiu patting luo binghe’s head at that exact moment like that truly felt like a love confession, it must have felt like that to luo binghe.

I'm a rather fidgety person, fingers always have to be doing something, I can also have rather terrible memory sometimes with things and can forget.

I have low self confidence and self worth, usually struggle to be optimistic and can be rather emotional, also often an absolute empath when it comes to fictional characters for example.

I can be a workaholic and can be terrible at taking care of myself, I easily lose track of time and can forget to eat at times, also have a fuzzy appetite so sometimes I might not want to eat anything at all. I care alot about other people's well being though, for me appearance doesn't matter, I care for the personality and think everyone is beautiful in their own way. I am a short chubby brunette with a boy haircut and brown eyes, my hair is often thick and poofy and sometimes hell to take care of, due to some health reasons I have an itchy scalp and have to often scratch my head. My fashion depends on just if the clothes are comfortable to wear in the moment, that's it. I wear glasses due to a bit of a negative in my sight.

I sometimes struggle to have a balanced sleep schedule and am often stressed.

I hold a strong love for animals and the nature around us. I especially love cats and reptiles and own a cat and a leopard gecko who I would die for.

Fiction is an important part of my life, the moment I get interested in in some show or franchise you can expect me to become an absolute nerd for it, (good example is Pokemon.) I am the type to analyze characters and really care about everything. Books, shows, movies, theatre, anything goes. I really also love music, 60% of the time you can find me listening to music somewhere, maybe even singing, I multitask alot too. My music taste depends on what connections I make to fictional media, especially that of my own, aka stories and characters I've created. My mind is always going like a 1000km/h with all types of thoughts, my own fictional universe only keeps expanding which I wish to share with the world. My dream is to become a writer one day, which I'm very passionate about, and another thing I really want to do one day is travel the world. I also do some art and animation, but intend to keep it as a hobby on the side.

I'm an ambivert, shy and hesitant around new people especially those of higher authority and importance, but incredibly outgoing with the people I'm familiar and comfortable with, never getting tired from them. Affection starved, expect lots of hugs, not that much into PDA tho. For me first impression matter, on my part, I am quick to think that people hate me or are annoyed with me.

Even with my fuzzy appetite I do like food, especially of strong flavour, I tend to seem to like asian or Italian food alot. I'd say I'm decent and cooking but not very good at baking.

Minimalistic, not very demanding when it comes to anything, it's basically like "Better than nothing." would be the type to live in a rather small house one day. Somewhat organized in my own way, sometimes I can act a little OCD though when something is out of place in a manner that it's just - no.

I can be rather talkative, when getting in a conversation with me expect to talk for hours about all types of things, wherever the conversation goes. Even better when it's over a cup of tea or a long walk somewhere outside.

I usually try to be as polite and kind as possible, though I sometimes struggle, I always try to have hope for the world, despite my incredibly pessimistic mindset.

For a partner, I look for someone I can geniuenly be happy and comfortable with, someone I can be open with and not worry about being lied to. I would be incredibly loyal to them and I'd hope them to be as well, of course, I don't get jealous or worked up if they're hanging out with friends. I want them to also be happy, someone I feel like I could spend the rest of my life with. Someone who'd be okay with traveling and seeing the world with, someone I can just have a moment to relax with, sometimes just talk and listen to eachother. Okay first things first I think we need to change your level of confidence my friend. tfw bkg could actually be seen as the weak one for giving in to societal views of quirkless ppl while izuku still tried his best to prove everyone wrong no matter how much they shoved him down . KATSUKI BEING PHSYICALLY STRONG AND PRAISED , YET WEAKER IN A MORE MENTAL ASPECT . . IZUKU BEING PHYSICALLY WEAK BUT MENTALLY STRONGER . I’M OUT . bkg having so many expectations shoved upon him by others but izuku was constantly pushed down and told his dreams were unattainable and that he wouldn’t amount to anything i’m so sad , the side by side comparison of izuku and katsuki despite literally growing up together hurts so bad . the fact they both got let down so badly by hero society . katsuki grew up being told that the strong are better than the weak and he needs to be the best and live up to everyone’s expections , and izuku grew up thinking he was worthless not only because of kacchans bullying but bc of how EVERYONE treated him .

they could’ve been such good friends if it hadn’t been for society literally pulling them apart because one is weak and one is strong . like. izuku and katsuki were shown hanging out just the two of them, before izuku was diagnosed quirkless. katsuki was a bit of an asshole (as most kids are) but they got along!! it’s mainly when katsuki’s other friends were around that he hurt izuku and mocked him more , he probably felt like he had to treat izuku like that in front of other people . imagine being peer pressured into bullying your best friend at age 5 . “even nowadays hes still more aggressive to izuku when around others rather than when its just them and im not good” (jordyn) WHEN THEYRE ALONE HE’S JUST. FAR LESS AGGRESSIVE I HATE IT HERE , LIKE AFTER THEIR FIRST FIGHT DURING TRAINING. HE JUST WALKED OFF?? BUT COMPARE THAT TO LIKE.. THE MOVIE, WHEN IIDA HAD TO STEP BETWEEN THEM . he got pissed bc izuku was on i-island and started threatening him , iida stood in front of izuku and izuku was hiding behind him 🥺 . honestly it’s been 12 years at this point he’s so used to treating izuku like shit when around other ppl bc izuku is weak and he’s strong tbag it’s just second nature at that point . when it’s just them he’s grumpy and moody but never physical . except for deku v kacchan 2 ofc .

kinda fucked up how katsuki thinks it’s normal to treat ppl weaker than him like that bc it was encouraged in school, but now he’s in high school and no one else is encouraging him like his old friends did and he’s just. Well . now izuku has all the praise and all the friends and bkg isn’t treated like gods gift to the earth anymore . that’s gonna be a SHOCK tbh , to go from how it was in middle school to high school . his whole personality in school before centred around being the best in the class and treating izuku like shit, always getting away with doing what he wants . and NOW WHAT? izuku is trailing behind him in grades and iida & momo are higher than him. the teachers don’t let him get away with shit he used to (like threatening izuku and standing on the desk in chapter 1) .

bkg has a tough first few days in hs because it’s not what he’s used to and now their roles have switched, izuku being the prodigy liked by everyone while bkg is given weird looks by their classmates. **attempts murder** . on some level tho his angry reaction is understandable, bc he would have seen it as some sort of attack on him bc his views of izuku are so flawed beyond repair . “ thinking abt it yeah that was probably the first time he violently lashed out when his emotions became too much to handle like in their second fight but on a cOMPLETELY DIFFERENT SCALE ” (jordyn) deku v kacchan 1 and 2 summaries: **kacchan feels an emotion and doesn’t know how to deal with it. takes it out on izuku** . their relationship is so fucked up there is so much co-dependency in these boys even if they don’t want to admit it. they literally wouldn’t know what to do with themselves if the other wasn’t there !! not to mention izuku still views kacchan through rose tinted glasses and admires him, he has such an unhealthy attachment going on . their dynamic is. so unhealthy for the both of them oh my godddddd

you should always decide your opinions on others based on how they treat and speak to you, not ideas of how they could be / projections or assumptions based on astrological stereotypes that are heavily dependent on levels of development, other placements, progressions, transits, etc!! 🤍

regardless of any gemini stereotypes, or even traits that are frequently true, if he doesn’t exhibit those traits than he just may not have them, it’s as simple as that. i always urge people to use astrology as a tool of discovery and growth, better understanding themselves/others, etc but not a tool for negative judgment or for deciding whether or not to interact with someone!

any person is capable of being a heartbreaker. if he’s sweet to you, and seems genuine, than why not go for it!! that is my advice, pay attention to how him and anyone else you interact with treats you and how they speak to and about you. that is what will always matter and what you should pay attention to! when deciding if you’re seriously compatible with someone, astrology of course can point towards strengths/weaknesses, potential issues, potential blessings, etc; but really, the best thing you can do is get to know a person on a deep level and discuss important topics that pertain to your future as a couple 🥺 not to sound old and mom-like but 😭 for me when i date someone now, full scorpio, i ask them early on about intentions, views on long-term things that are important to me (ie: having children) cause i hate talking to someone for months to find out our future plans are incompatible, and we have nothing in common interest wise or personality wise.

uhh I def think their relationship was toxic but I don’t think it was abusive as lots of people like to imply; for abuse to occur there has to be a pretty big power imbalance & i don’t think that was there between them. like, I think a lot of people personify Brian as a cold manipulative person simply bc he was more popular as an artist & more business oriented as a person but not once do we see him actually lording that over Curt or bending him to his will with it.....the one time it’s even brought up in the film Brian is obviously trying to protect him from Jerry & the machinery of the music industry. like tbh I’m more concerned with Curt’s outbursts; his rages are not only inappropriate but unhealthy. there’s no excuse to scream & break shit bc ur not getting your way, it’s at best embarrassing & at worst terrifying. I think the anger is actually supposed to be directed at Jerry in that scene, but it doesn’t really excuse the way he’s treating Brian, who obviously is being used as a puppet bc his fear of failure causes him to listen to anything Jerry says.

Like.........Tbh I think in their pre-break up scene Curt rlly was just not reading the room, but at the same time I don’t blame him bc as Mandy says, Brian was projecting a fantasy onto him instead of trying to love & understand a real person. I think a lot of suppressed aggression & existential fear was coming out, deeper than losing Brian I’m sure he was worried about what his career was turning into & where he would go without Bijou Music to pay for him. Also I’m sure by that time, due to both drugs & his huge ambitions, Brian had become distant with him in a way he couldn’t handle; I think that Curt was truly really in love with & grateful to Brian for taking him in and Brian was just a bit too self centered at the time to understand the importance of that. I’m sure the feeling was mutual, but also I totally get being more attached to your career than your boyfriend, it’s a pretty normal part of being a young adult no matter what ur aspiration is. However, Curt isn’t like Brian in that regard- I don’t think he’s really interested in being a pop idol & I don’t think he lives off attention in the same way. He can’t handle feeling abandoned by probably the only or one of the only people who’s ever been genuinely loving & kind towards him and it seriously psyches his shit out. I don’t think it’s dramatic to theorize that Brian is the first person he’d ever fallen in love with and I definitely think that Curt was the most serious & mutual love affair of Brian’s life.

I’m not sure how anybody can rlly argue that they weren’t in love with each other, I just think like. it wasn’t the right time and I’m not sure how a relationship CAN be healthy when it’s actively being marketed and monetized to sell records & concert tickets. I’m not sure how it can be healthy when it’s only Allowed because it boosts Brian’s image, & when a third party is calling the shots on whether it’s sustainable. like, their various faults & traumas & obsessions aside, that’s not something that can genuinely become deep & long lasting unless it’s taken apart & put back together in a different & more human setting.

like idk. I’m really tired of the way most ppl who like VG view their relationship bc I do Actually think they should’ve been the endgame couple in the whole thing and it’s sort of skeevy to romanticize Curt & Arthur instead, tho I don’t think Curt & Arthur’s relationship ITSELF is skeevy. It’s just that Curt and Brian are the proper ages for each other, with similar faults and backgrounds, they have the same vocation, and I think it’s easy to play off their nostalgias as missing their fame but to me it was always pretty clear that they miss each other. like i literally can’t work Tommy Stone into my interpretation of the film bc I think it’s such a disgrace to the character of Brian to write him that way, but despite interpretation Curt is still going to his gigs even if they’re against everything he probably believes in as a gay punk artist during the Reagan era. & it’s not bc he misses the past, it’s bc he misses Brian. & Brian showed up at Death of Glitter & it wasn’t just bc the macabre appealed to his dramatic bitch side, he showed up bc Curt came back to London. & half of Bittersweet is in German & Curt defected to Germany. And Curt’s following blue headed teenagers around the streets of Berlin. Curt hooked up with Arthur bc Arthur was dressed like Brian- It’s written into the Script that Arthur has the same hopeful eyes that Curt remembers from a long time ago.

I’m just kinda gushing abt this now but I think the function of Curt in Arthur’s life wasn’t to be his soulmate, I think it was to continually liberate him from the conventional life he’s just not built for, which is the reason he gives him the pin. I just think it’s sort of a misread to think they got together because I’m not sure that was the lovestory at hand here. I think it was always Curt & Brian.

so like can the relationship be fixed.......yeah I totally think it can. My Fan Theory (which y’all are free to steal & write about) is that Brian Slade actually left for Paris after death of glitter & took a hiatus to write plays there bc it was the city where Oscar Wilde was buried. Curt probably continued to have substance abuse issues into the early 80’s, when I like to think he moved from Berlin to New York & then back to Michigan, where he lived in rural isolation for a while, writing acoustically & drinking like a fish. At some point around 1990(when the world probably would’ve been up to speed with Curt) Jack would’ve fished him out of there and released his folk masterpiece, panned at the time but a classic by 2020, yknow, and I think Brian probably would’ve returned to music sometime in the 80’s bc he’s just a naturally poppy person & it would’ve been a good decade for him. It could be that Brian’s return is what jonsed Curt back into society, idk, but I think after they both return to their passions they probably would rebuild things.

ok so, i don't like devin grayson. i don't like her writing at all, i don't think she gets the characters at all, and hot take: if you dislike a character who's super important part of dick's life, and helped him come into his own and be who he is, you shouldn't be writing that character. (i'm talking about kory here, but tbh if you dislike any of the characters who dick interacts with frequently and are a huge part of his life - especially his love interests, and his family - you shouldn't be writing dick.) so i'm not going into this story with high hopes. however i've seen ppl talk about this story as being really good so i hope i'll like it too

this is def some of grayson's better work, but it suffers from the same thing all of her stories do. she doesn't fully understand all the characters. if one character is off it affects the whole story. a lot of her stories have good ideas and poor execution, and this one definitely doesn't have awful execution but there's still something missing and as someone who loves the titans it's just sad. i get why people like this story - it made me tear up at the end ngl - but the rest of the titans are just as important as dick and it feels like the writer doesn't understand that. (i get this is a dick comic but it's still a titans story.) (it does however make me want to write a fic expanding upon this moment and the aftermath bc the idea of the titans all coming together to cheer dick up is so goooooood. are they gonna have a party celebrating dick's parent's lives? are they gonna eat junk food and watch a comfort movie? are they gonna just sit and talk?? the possibilities are endless!!)

the art is gorgeous as all of jimenez' art is, i love his style so freaking much!!

1. As a SA I agree with u that sex is something we dont discuss and we never even touch the topic until we think we're grown up to talk abt, even with friends. I love it when western ppl try to discuss and dissect asian content with their own values and upbringing. So I dont really think lwj or wei ying are asexual at all, the story in the novel starts at a tender age of 13 or 14 and most asian kids at that age are really kids, No 13 year I knew was confident abt dating at that young age.

2. But I disagree u on one think I loved the way the author wrote lan zhan, coz this boy has hidden away from any human emotion. He locked himself in the library or used to practice what he learned, he never even learned the art of simple conversation and suddenly him realising that he might have fallen in love must have made his life unstable. Him telling his brother that he might be in love just tells u how much wei ying affected him, he just didnt have the tools to express the need and love

3. Lwj was smitten and even wrote a song just for them, he wasnt confident enough and didnt know enough to make a move, when he did wei ying forgot and so lwj kept thinking he was reject but still stood with him. Lwj is basically the longing and wwx was disbelief. Wwx never believed he was worth anything, he might have gotten a house to call home but the way the lady of the house treated him made him have issues. Love wasnt the only thing which made him give his golden core to jc.

4. It was also the sense of duty that these ppl helped me now I have to sacrifice myself for them. Even with lwj he keeps thinking hes ruined lwjs white cloths everytime they end up fighting someone or thing. He felt guilty for his feelings coz he wasnt sure that he would be ever accepted anywhere. Wen for him became a mission coz he lived as a dirt poor kid, he knew how they felt.

5. So yep I dont think lwj or wwx were written badly it's just the cultural thing coming in abt relationships. I seriously am loving this writers another novel coz they write the relationship like normalised relationships. Couples are made when one person is persuaded by the other. Never have I seen both ppl fall in love at the same time. P.S. sorry for the rant, it just makes me angry when white ppl think that us asians live their kind of life style

I chose this song bc it’s abbout being sad, but the tone is upbeat and happy. Something I’ve noticed abt Tim is that he is (usually) functionally depressed. Like, I read an article about high functioning depression, and it said that a lot of people who have it have a hole in their life – that they can have a job (and Tim does, being either CEO or Red Robin or both), a partner (who I like to think of as Kon), and be part of a family, maintaining this happy/upeat facade, but if you ask them what they do for fun…they usually can’t answer that. And I don’t think Tim can. When he was younger, he could, but what now?

I’m of the opinion that Tim getting fired from Robin was the right choice and that Dick wasn’t being cruel or anything like that at all, but I also think that Tim probably saw it that way which is valid. So it’s like, to him, Dick was his big brother who was basically always there for him, and then suddenly… he’s not. And everything else going on in his life starts to suck dramatically, and not having his big brother makes it worse, and he feels betrayed. Meanwhile Dick really is on his side, life is just also terrible for him too so they can’t be as close as they were when Tim was Robin. It can also be about Bruce or Kon tbh – just, wanting one of them to be there and they’re not.

Basically my thoughts here are: 1) everyone looks to the Robins and sees how much they do and it’s just A Lot, 2) Tim knows Jason died and so he probably thinks that’s in his future too even if Dick survived, and 3) Tim is doing a lot and feeling a lot and trying to protect himself and his feelings, which is hard work especially for someone so young

Someone on twitter already pointed, for all his haters complain a redemption would be "too easy", Goro himself is rejecting that very idea by rejecting the dream world. He's a determined character and can put it to good use. One difference I've noticed with Japanese fandom is how a lot of his fans mention liking him because of how hard working he is and that that coupled with the desire for acceptance from a society that rejected him was relatable.

yeah, it’s a completely different cultural lens over there. western fans seem to think of things in dichotomies. “soft vs edgy” “pure vs problematic” etc etc etc without giving a singular thought as to whether something is actually compelling or not. western fans wouldn’t even think to categorize akechi as “hardworking” and see it as a virtue, because that’s not one of our normal categories for media consumption. it’s not how we view society or ppl’s places within it.

it is kind of interesting that akechi’s appeal of “desire for acceptance from a society that rejected him” is kind of universal, though. serious akechi fans like myself and mod krist and others definitely resonate with that part of his character. he’s an abuse victim, sure, but he’s also living in a society that wholeheartedly rejects the very nature of his existence, which is wildly powerful across all cultures.

i think where antis get their wires crossed is their inability to accept anyone who falls under this umbrella that’s not role model material. and that’s a damn shame tbh. not every portrayal of this oppression should be a fucking role model. sometimes it’s just as important to see the suffering effects of said oppression and what it can push a person to do. if we don’t confront that reality, then it’ll never seem real at all to the people who actually need to understand it.

Mod Krist addendum: Last year I wrote up a long post about the Japanese foster care/orphanage system and how that could have played a part not only in Akechi’s development, but his possible appeal to the audience. I think it’s an important and worthwhile read for folx who don’t know about these background details from the culture.

I see people go on about how Akechi was treated by Shido, and rightly labeling it as abusive, but I also can’t help but feel like that’s a small part into what’s really hurting Akechi. Akechi can’t even see himself as a current victim of abuse; he can’t even think that far ahead because being a bastard child and then an orphan in Japanese society is his major defining pain and point of shame (despite it being nothing to be ashamed of). That’s what hurts him. That’s what he confesses to Ren in Leblanc. That’s the crux of his heart’s distortion: society treats people like him like they’re subhuman, and yet he’s so desperate to be loved and accepted and have his worth acknowledged and embraced by that very society. Western fandom antis reducing Akechi’s problems to how his father treats him (aka “daddy issues”) overlooks the more relevant problem of how Japanese society treats orphans and children abandoned by their parents.

I also think that some people in the western P5 fandom who like Akechi hone in on the abuse, as if the abuse alone is sufficient explanation for Akechi’s behavior, and… I’m not sure I agree. I think the whole “I’m an unwanted child with no place in this country and no legal rights and no ability to care for myself because technically I don’t exist if I’m not attached to a parent” is pretty goddamn damaging alone. And when you add in the whole “and now I have to reach out to the piece of shit father who abandoned me and my mother in order to have any hope of surviving” element, the problem is only made even worse.

oh boy anon i’ll sure try!! idk if im the best person to talk about it tbh and ive confused a lot of people trying to explain my views before ahfjkfh but ill try REALLY hard to keep my adhd ass in check lmfao. if theres anything i said thats confusing & you need cleared up feel free to @ me againi dont know how long gender critical has existed as a concept, but i wouldnt be surprised if it was developed as a reaction to a certain VERY vocal part of the trans movement/trans rights activists

(so when you talk to people (trans ppl) about gender i think people usually break it down into several a few categories: gender identity, gender roles, and gender expression. i think most trans people are aware of & separate their sex from their gender identity, the identity being something innately part of every person, the roles generally speaking the bullshit that society expects & should be rejected, and gender expression really just being the traditional “feminine” or “masculine” behaviors/dress you use regardless of your innate identity.in trans circles/lgbt (merch, lol) sites i’ve seen the phrase passed around “gender is a social construct.” i think trans people who do/used to say that meant it kind of like that since gender was created by societies so it doesn’t matter how you identify/why not expand the understanding of gender (ergo, non-binary genders getting popularized). i think this fell out of popularity because it was transppls attempt to validate ourselves and conservatives cant wrap their mind around social constructs are/the distinction between sex and gender and so it wasnt really working out lmfaobut now there’s been some scientific studies getting popularized that have Suggested the existences of male & female brains and that trans ppl have the brain of their identified gender, therefore the disconnect between their brain and their body manifests as gender dysphoria. (i think the transmed community has especially taken to this idea esp because of kalvin garrah discovering these studies & now kind of preaching them as facts & science. with this comes him, his friends, and all the transmed ppl who stan him ryan and london saying that Gender Isnt Socially Constructed)then theres the posts circling around here saying Transwomen Are Women/Real Women + when the women’s march happened in america after trump got elected, i saw quite a few things on facebook where ppl were saying that all the talk of vaginas and shit were transphobic and trans-exclusionary and they should keep in mind that not all women have vaginas, etc etcthen u have what i believe (or at least hope) are outliers in the trans community being dug up (usually transwomen) who say........ The Most ridiculous shit imo. like saying theyre more of a woman than ciswomen (i’ll use cis strictly to mean not-trans in the context of this post), transwomen claiming theyre having a period, and just in general perpetuating “cotton ceiling” stuff like lesbians just needing to get over their transphobia to be with a pre-op transwoman. (again i would like to reiterate i DO NOT believe this is what the majority of transpeople believe, its just a vocal minority thats gotten attention from receipt blogs IMO.))**sorry that this post is already becoming an essay and if its derailing from the question, but this is what i think gender critical stuff is meant to react toso kind of in opposition to mainstream ideas of what gender is, i think radfems/gender critical people dont really break down gender into the different things like identity, roles and expression. from my understanding, gender was socially constructed based on sex stereotypes. i think we can all agree that stereotypes are Bad, so why should we identify with some set stereotypes?

the gender critical beliefs is that there’s not right or wrong way to be male or female (male and female in this post meaning to strictly refer to biological sex). gender is holding us back by continuing to subscribe to sex stereotypes and is counterproductive to building a society where people are free to express themselves however they like. (a lot of gender critical ppl equate gender identity with personality, and while i think this can sometimes be the case w nondysphoric people & mogai genders, it isn’t always and usually isnt, because as i mentioned before, a lot of ppl know enough to say that gender expression is something independent of gender identity.)as for my personal take on it & how it plays a part of my life (apologies that this is going to get super anecdotal):this all is related to my own transition. since questioning being trans, i fluctuated between different non-binary identities. i didnt think i was Trans Enough to call myself a transmale because i didnt want to kill myself over not having a penis (or even trans enough to call myself trans at all lol), so i thought i needed to stay as being nb. then i realized they/them pronouns did...... nothing for me. the whole time i had she/they/he or they/he in a profile i was always secretly hoping someone would just call me he lol.

but i felt like i was an insult to REAL transmen. it took me a while to realize that i didnt care too much about the specifics, i just needed to do what made me happy. that happiness was being read as male & using he/him pronouns.

but even then id still struggle. id have moments of thinking that i was just copying my best friend (who had a similar nb -> binary transmale path as me), or that i didnt even feel like a boy, that i was STILL faking being trans, that i should feel more of x y & z, that id made a mistake with starting testosterone, etc. reading radfem/gender critical stuff used to trigger the fuck out of me lmfao.i think what i eventually realized for myself and the sentiment other gender critical transppl share is that i was setting up an expectation/standard for myself that was impossible to attain. with mainstream gender theory, a cisman and i share our gender identity, our gender is the same (”cis” as its used to “identifying with your biological sex”). the thing is though, in terms of sex/gender, theres nothing i find that i have comparable to a male. i dont act like a “man” because im not one, im a TRANSman. ive lived most of my life so far as female and being socialized that way has been significant to me. i relate a lot to women and its always felt wrong to me how suddenly because im transitioning it felt to me like i was expected to revoke my right to speak on feminism/womens experiences. way before i discovered gender critical things i was pissed off at people trying to be “allies” to transpeople saying shit like “all men are trash transmen are real men so theyre trash too uwu!” like. fuck that. and fuck you for insinuating i would EVER treat a woman the way that men do.

like i know there are transmen (and just transppl in general, for that matter), who try to overcompensate with misogyny/misogynistic ideas because they think itll help them pass better but fuck

anyway. im proud of being a natal female and being socialized that way. being trans isnt exactly a party but im glad i could get the insight i have into the treatment of women and so forth. and the thing is, this isnt a contradiction to me being trans at all. once i let go of whether or not i was “male enough” of “valid” as a boy, i could once again just focus on the very concrete evidence in my life: i was EXTREMELY dysphoric about my chest. i’ve been on hrt for almost two years now and ive had top surgery. my dysphoria is almost non-existent since ive had surgery. i dont mind & even get excited about all the changes coming from being on testosterone. (dont like that i cant sing like i used to and that i’ll probably end up balding at least by my 50s if my dads head is any indication, but cismen have this problem too so whatever)

also ive never felt quite right when i was calling myself gay (exclusively attracted to men). i share some issues that gay men might, i Can be affected by homophobia because i Do pass as male, but its still not 100% the same experience and i think that distinction is importantmy concerns & how being gender critical is important to me:

me coming out as trans was a process over time. using the usual trans rhetoric, i was having difficulties explaining myself to people. specifically im thinking about my mom. when i said i was uncomfortable with being seen as a girl, she said she was uncomfortable too. she liked dressing more like a boy. some other shit she said too that i dont remember, but my basic takeaway: cispeople, particularly ciswomen, arent necessarily enthusiastically identifying with their correlated gender to their sex, because..... no reasonable person likes gender roles.

and i get worried about people like my mom who might be encouraged to identify as nonbinary just because theyre gender non-conforming. the identity itself wouldnt be much of a problem except that it seems to me like its being pretty normalized for nonbinary people to just kind of....... experiment with medical transitioning to try to achieve some Ideal androgynous form that would be.... Very difficult to achieve. i worry about people not thinking medical transitioning is a big deal and just kind of.... disregarding all the potential health consequences, how powerful testosterone is as a hormone, and so on. with the permanent changes that come people THEN end up experiencing dysphoria and life is.... really pretty difficult for detransitioned women from what i can tell, and a lot of people talk about how theres been a spike of people detransitioning lately.

i think part of the problem is 1. transmed/truscum people harassing & bullying nondysphoric trans-identified people, so they feel the need to medically transition to Prove Themselves and 2. just in general the aforementioned idea that everyone has a gender identity. i think itd be very uncommon for people to “identify” as cis, and so you get this whole mess of people thinking they need an androgynous body to match their androgynous identity......... etc.

bonus: my mom crying on her birthday because she said she didnt think shed be able to ever see me as a guy. “nonbinary, maybe, but you dont act like a boy.” problem solved, i dont act like a guy, i act like a transguy!!

also again, need to reiterate that i cant relate to men. i can never Become Male, not with our current technology. i was not socialized as male and thats okay!! its okay because im just doing what i need to in order to be comfortable with my body and myself. i dont need to worry about my dating pool seeing me as a Real Man because they can see me fully as the transman i am and my relationship with being a natal woman and just, shit like that. ive gotten a lot more comfortable with even being called she when it does happen (by accident by family members). its not a swear word to me and ive let go of a lot of expectations i thought i had to meet with being uncomfortable talking about my female organs and my past as living as a woman etc etc. im not trying to Be anything anymore. im just trying to live as myself

some of my issues with the gender critical community just as a disclaimer:

i have a lot honestly and im not going to be able to name them all off the top of my head

makes sense that it would be, but i think the community is rampant with transphobia in the sense of flattening transpeople to the “transcult” stereotype where they just..... dont seem to think of us as individuals. they think we’re all genderists getting triggered by misgendering & demanding our pronouns. they think all of us are “delusional” about our natal sex. they think we’re all gender conforming. they dont take dysphoria seriously in general, ESPECIALLY males experiencing dysphoria (i get that your feminism doesnt have to be concerned with “men” but come on). misgendering is just disrespectful to me (idgaf about rapists, whatever use whatever pronouns you feel the need for those people.)

just in general some people dont get that trans people can still exist in a post-gender world? and you can still be critical of gender while respecting people’s pronouns? by their very nature i think the transmed, radfem, and especially gender critical communities are attractive to bullies so you have those flocking to it, and thats an issue but... yeah.

this answer has gone on long enough and im really sorry anon im sure you didnt sign up to read a 13 page essay. i just got lost in my thoughts and felt like i had a lot of explaining to do. i think my feelings are both simple and complicated so idk if i even really answered your questions, i hope i did..., ;;
