i’m not obligated to draw anything i don’t want to, and i’m not obligated to force myself to draw things to please people. it took me a while to learn this and so i’m keeping the lesson with me.

My gf and I have talked about hypothetically opening up our relationship at some point in the future which would make me very happy as a polyamorous person, but I just realized that if that actually happens and I have to go back out on the dating scene I'm gonna have some trouble bc now that I'm more outwardly butch people are gonna expect me to make the first move and I have never made a first move in my entire life

In all of my relationships but two the first move was made by the other person, and I wasn't even the person who made the first move in the other two. In the first one the girl chickened out on her plans to ask me out and then our mutual friend who didn't realize that that had happened outed her by asking me what I said afterwards, and in the second one me and the other person both went to the same friend on the same day to talk about our crushes on each other and then she made us talk about our feelings

I met my current girlfriend on a dating app, and the first time she tried to ask me on a date she wanted to take me to the theater so she asked me if I had seen the new beauty & the beast movie and then instead of realizing that she was asking me on a date I said that I'd already seen it and gave her a negative review of the movie. And then when she asked me on a date again a few weeks later I had to ask to make sure it was a date when I got there 😭

...And that reminds me of another event in high school where a girl I liked took me to the mall and we walked around holding hands the entire time and then afterwards I had to get one of our mutual friends to ask her if it was supposed to be a date bc I was too nervous and also stupid 😭 Another girl that year asked me to skip class with her and told me that if I flashed my pretty smile at the teacher I could probably get away with it and I had to show the text to my friend to ask if she was flirting. I'm gonna die out there on my own 😭

So I finally watched Nimona (during that date) and it was not worth the hype. The animation was beautiful and I did love how expressive the characters were. But damn, Nimona the character in general was annoying.

Her backstory was really cool, how it was all integrated and revealed stuff. But just eh, was not a fan of her. I really dislike misunderstandings esp when characters just don't talk to each other or walk in on shit out of context. I get what they were trying to do and say with Nimona. But at the same time, I also see exactly how some people will think they relate to how persecuted Nimona actually is to their life when they live a pretty privileged life. And yeah thats not the movies fault, but eh.

I guess overall it wasn't bad, but just not as good as everyone said it would be. And I knew that going in, just bc I know people overhype stuff, but even with my expectations lowered it still was just meh.

hi im the og anon about the oliver interview — you basically hit the nail on the head. im of the belief that eddie has known in some capacity he has feelings for buck and just compartmentalizes it because he didnt think buck swung that way (until now) and even then just doesnt want to touch it because hes repressed and thats A LOT to unpack even if he is aware of it. i want him to just embrace himself.

i saw a different interview after 705 that lou said he wasnt sure if he was in any episodes past 706 so im starting to think that we might have buck get some feelings realization for eddie SOON and buck pining in season 8 perhaps. ik tim says he writes as he goes but i find it hard to believe there wouldnt be some sort of overarching game plan AT ALL for a show like this. maybe the way theyre going about it changed (i think having buck date another guy first is a great idea tbh) but i still think thats the long term plan

yes, everything you said! i don't really have a lot to add except that i think it's important that eddie learns how to let himself want things and actually voice his wants, so i'd genuinely like to see him let go of the pressures of dating seriously with a specific goal in mind (finding a co-parent, etc) and see him kinda casually date around, actually figure out what he likes or wants in a relationship, etc. meanwhile buck can do some serious self-reflection while being single. (this isn't to say that i think both of them should be magically fixed from all their traumas, etc before they get together—that's never gonna happen, and saying something like that has some very messed up implications. but i do think there are a certain number of things they need to do first before being ready for a relationship with *each other* so that it doesn't implode in their faces.)

Anything about Rey tbh. I may not be a big sequels person but anytime the fandom tries reduce her to an overpowered female Luke and say she's unoriginal I roll my eyes.

Like they are nothing alike. Luke got to live comfortably taken care of by his aunt and uncle. He never had to scavage scraps just to be able to eat. And before anyone comes for me, I'm NOT ripping on Luke. He had what anyone should have.

What I'm saying is Rey didn't get to have guardians or a comfortable house or regularly even be able eat. She was abandoned and did what she had to to survive. As for the overpowered thing like she's able to fly ships or fight back, like come on. I repeat, she. was. a. scavanger. She got to know ship parts and as for fighting, she's had to fight dickheads like Teedo and probably worse to keep food, homes, etc. After rewatching TFA, i notice she learns from OBSERVATION. She mimics what others do around. This is a survival skill she had her whole life.

Of course Luke is going to take a little more time to learn things. He was never put in that situation where it was do or die (as any child shouldn't). Rey was and however fast she was at learning a skill is a result of basic survival instincts.

She and Luke ENTIRELY different characters and to say she's a female version of him cuz she's from a desert????? Reductive and a big lack in media literacy tbh.

14. What's the most egregious example of fridging in canon?

God which one? 😅 Fridging is probably one of Star Wars biggest crimes. Leia is the first that comes to mind because she died to redeem her piece of shit son that she did not deserve.

But then again, Anakin's turn to the dark side is also due to fridging with his mother and his wife. Especially with Padme since there's an old version where she actually gets to live a little bit longer with the Rebellion and tried to kill Anakin.

I may not be a big Satine person, but that's fridging too to give Obi Wan angst and more Maul animosity.

I'm still going to say Leia in the sequels though as the most egregious. Because it was so out of nowhere (yes I'm aware that Carrie's death was probably the reason but I don't care. There are better ways to kill off/write out a character than fridging). Her death served no purpose other than Kyle Ron no accountability. Like what in "Jesus died for our sins" is this bullshit? Why must Star Wars' most iconic woman have to go out for a man that did nothing but hurt and betray her? It's insulting tbh.

Edit: Luminara's death was fucking awful too. Like ain't no reason to have it be so horrific. Sigh... can Star Wars like not hate women for once.

Romantically that is a tough one. Honestly I'm coming up short with this one. Can't say Han and Leia cuz we only see their rocky start and end and nothing in between.

Maybe Kanan and Hera but their relationship kinda got ruined for me when suddenly at the end, he wasnt aware if Hera felt the same about him??? I just thought they were basically married and I'm supposed to be believe they haven't even had that conversation by THAT point in time??? Plus the ghost baby thing creeped me the fuck out. With the way we can suggest certain things that might influence the OG timeline (like suggesting to Luci where to hide Goldie), do you think us being here is creating some sort of a time loop paradox? Like the Exchange program was highly influenced by MC's future-past self in OldTimey Devildom, but OldTImey Devildom wouldn't have existed without Exchange Program MC and it's all just a huge timeline mess (or, as Nightbringer put it, like mud).

Plus if that's the case, then us going back to our "regular" timeline probably erased the boys' memory of us.

Anyways I'm just imagining MC making it back to their normal spacetime and having to explain what happened to their demons (and maybe them unlocking their memories of OldTimey us, idk) and I'm curious what your thoughts are

i wasnt sure how to answer this in writing (like a oneshot or smth) but I CAN reply with my own thoughts i hope that's okay :D i put in a cut so its not so long

ok im not very far in but i can tell you this

personally, i'm not a huge fan of time travel tropes. its a lot to wrap my head around but i do think from a timeline standpoint its gonna change things and that can be fun to think about. i just gotta wrapp my head around it for a sec 😅

i think the boys would all have different reactions do it. considering/assuming they have memories of og obey me events and nightbringer, i think everything would make more and less sense at the same time.

mc is probably going to be incredibly confused (when aren't they tbh) and the boys are going to think everything happened. linear-ly.

from mc's perspective, they got to the devildom but were sent back in time later. according to the demons & co. (solomon, simeon, etc.), they met mc, then they left (?), and diavolo brought them back from the human world because of the exchange program without any memories of the demon world. however it's mc's actual first time in the devildom. maybe this erases the boys memories too.

i believe, knowing what we do about barbatos, that he's the one at fault for all the time travel stuff and he's the unknown person at the beginning of nightbringer. maybe im wrong. idk i think its the only reasonable explanation based on the characters we know so far.

there's a lot of ways this could go, but lets assume no one loses their memories when they come back to the "present", mc's memory is gonna be a lot different than the boys because they did things out of order. i think this is where i get to finally your question (I tend to ramble, can't you tell 😂)

i think lucifer takes it the best. he knows barbatos is powerful and figures this kind of magic isn't out of the question. he's glad to have you back, though to him it didn't seem like you were gone at all. he also apologizes for any way his past self might have treated you since it was directly after the celestial war.

mammon is a different story. he gives up on trying to understand time travel and when he makes the connection that was YOU, HIS mc, he gets all sorts of defensive. feels your face all over and makes sure you're still his mc and that you're still normal and that time travelling didn't change you any (if anything, it could have changed him, but you don't mention that. probably would freak him out more)

levi thinks about it like a video game. he understands, but pulls you aside later and begs for you to explain everything and anything that happened because now he believes he should pitch this to some animator friends he made online to see if it could be a new up and coming anime.

satan is pretty quiet. mostly, he's just happy that you're okay. he waits for all the chaos to settle and makes sure you're physically fine, then swears he'll hurt whoever sent you back in time and away from the rest of them. he also apologizes if he ever hurt you int he past that he may not remember distinctly. please reassure him its okay.

asmo is the first to pounce on you for a hug. immediately. you explain that you were gone for what felt like forever and he's SO happy to have you back!! insists that he gives you a makeover and you do a self care day for you to unwind after having to deal with their antics when they first got to the devildom.

beel low key wants to take you from asmo (and almost does) when you suggest you'll spend the whole next day with him and belphie. beel's idea of quality time is eating food & watching movies with people, so when you agree to do that, he agrees to not argue with asmo about who gets to make sure you're okay first. he's not really sure about this time travel business, but he knows he cares about you a lot and the thought that he (or him at the moment) wasn't there to protect you makes him feel a bit guilty.

belphie is more or less on the same lines as beel. he takes a bit more convincing to not pummel asmo (he's worried about you in his own way). however, he wants to spend the whole day learning about your adventures and trying to figure out how you remember everything versus how he does. his best way to think about it is like a weirdly-specific and realistic dream, but actually in reality. it's strange, but its the best way to wrap his head around everything.

⛧ tbh idk if zakk would straight up “hey, wanna fuck?” or get to know you just to get you to fuck you but then accidentally really like your traits and personality, but for the sake of keeping these not too sexual, we will do for the second.

hi i read a classicist saying that in the Greek myths Helen never chose her husband, they said she didn’t chose Menelaus and she was raped and miserable but i can’t find a source for that? i thought Helen chose Menelaus as her husband when she was asked, didn’t she? is there any source for Helen hating Menelaus and being forced to marry him? I thought Menelaus was a good husband :c

EEEEEEE i wasnt gonna answer this. there's a lot of stuff here that i don't usually touch with a ten foot pole because i have no self control and am an opinionated asshole. THAT BEING SAID. i will give you .... the 'big three' traditions on how menelaus/helen came about and my own personal thoughts on them. why they work. why they don't. why i choose to .... follow certain ones and not others. okay? okay.

as i said, there are three BIG 'storylines' as to how menelaus and helen were coupled up, basically. they are fragmentary, they are not detailed. but they're all we have. or at least. they're the three you usually see playing out.

first is. HESIOD. and his CATALOGUE OF WOMEN. (all fragments). he says in fragment 68:

(ll. 11-15) ((lacuna) . . . and as many women skilled in blameless arts, each holding a golden bowl in her hands. And truly Castor and strong Polydeuces would have made him their brother perforce, but Agamemnon, being son-in-law to Tyndareus, wooed her for his brother Menelaus.

(ll. 21-27) And from Ithaca the sacred might of Odysseus, Laertes son, who knew many-fashioned wiles, sought her to wife. He never sent gifts for the sake of the neat-ankled maid, for he knew in his heart that golden-haired Menelaus would win, since he was greatest of the Achaeans in possessions and was ever sending messages to horse-taming Castor and prize-winning Polydeuces.

(ll. 52-54) . . . sought her to wife. And after golden-haired Menelaus he offered the greatest gifts of all the suitors, and very much he desired in his heart to be the husband of Argive Helen with the rich hair.

so this is a combination of the 'menelaus had the nicest shit and was picked either by helen's brothers or her father for her because they wanted nice stuff' and the 'menelaus?? wasnt even??? fucking there??? and aga did??? the flirting for him????' narratives.

i personally take issue with the 'menelaus gave the nicest gift and was chosen' narrative sIMPLY BECAUSE. why would he have the nice stuff?? it's agamemnon's. mycenae is agamemnon's kingdom. not menelaus'. the stuff??? not his. he is a couch-surfing-brother at the moment. he doesnt really have??? anything?? just a CONNECTION to aga. YES if he's picked for helen he will get sparta and all that good stuff. but at the time???? it wouldn't be his. i'm not saying aga wouldn't loan him this cool stuff to show off with, but compared to dio and ody and the others - he actually has nothing. just a brother with a kingdom. at least ody is a king and dio is set to inherit a lot when he comes of age. so this is out, personally for me.

i can honestly dig the 'aga flirts for menelaus' narrative though. that one always cracks me up and is not used enough. we don't know??? why menelaus isnt there??? and aga is??? even though aga is the one with the kingdom and THE JOB??? but it's just funny. just aga tryna hype up his baby bro to the most beautiful woman ever so she'll pick him. that's funny shit. i can dig this version.

next is APOLLODORUS. who doesn't give us much tbh. he just says:

[E.2.15] But the nurse took Agamemnon and Menelaus to Polyphides, lord of Sicyon, who again sent them to Oeneus, the Aetolian. Not long afterwards Tyndareus brought them back again .......... And they became the sons-in-law of Tyndareus by marrying his daughters, Agamemnon getting Clytaemnestra to wife ......... while Menelaus got Helen.

[E.2.16] ... And Menelaus married Helen and reigned over Sparta, Tyndareus having ceded the kingdom to him.

all this really adds is that menelaus becomes king because tyndareus steps down. he doesn't die. which i know a lot of people are '?????' by. but there's nothing here to emphasise how the marriage is arranged or goes down. which gives people a lot to play with. ig.

lastly. is HYGINUS. who says.

TYNDAREUS: Tyndareus, son of Oibalus, by Leda, daughter of Thestius, became father of Clytemnestra and Helen; he gave Clytemnestra in marriage to Agamemnon, son of Atreus. Because of her exceeding beauty many suitors from many states sought Helen in marriage. Tyndareus .... gave Helen leave to put a wreath on whomever she wished to marry. She put it on Menelaus, and Tyndareus gave her to him in marriage and at his death left him his kingdom.

and here is the 'helen chose menelaus' narrative. tyndareus left the choice to her and she put the wreath on his head. so, for this version he was there and it's never stated that she chose him because of his stuff??? (again he doesnt HAVE ANYTHING). so. we can assume she just??? liked him best. YES i am biased to menelaus/helen forever. i adore them. but even then THIS makes the most sense to me. it works with apollodorus' brief account too. and idk hesiod's just. doesn't make sense to me.

BUT these are three ancient accounts that we have. there is no ONE CANON. there is no 'this happened and this didn't' it's what tradition makes sense to you. i've tried to explain why i don't think hesiod's political spin on it would work, but for someone, it might.

in terms of her marriage being forced??? if she chose menelaus, clearly not. if her brothers or her father chose for her?? thats tricky. in the context of her time? helen would have known she would have to marry. she was a princess of a powerful kingdom. it just. would have been. its a tricky grey area.

i will say, though, in terms of her being 'raped and miserable' i do not know a source for that. again, you can interpret Certain Events as her being unhappy. she did leave with another man after all. but i think there's more TO it then that. a lot of events in the HCU are never black and white. and that's kinda the point??? they emphasise choice and fate and control and complexities of life and what we choose to do in it.

MY overall opinion? helen chose menelaus. and for a long time. she was happy. but menelaus is not without his baggage (you don't come out of the house of atreus unscathed). and that would put a strain on any relationship. and aphrodite and fate struck when that couple was at their most vulnerable. and it tore them apart. i dont think they ever stopped loving each other, though. i think deep down they always did and they needed certain events and time to realise it. i think there's a huge gap between the iliad and odyssey 4 in which they heal. they talk and they heal and they learn and they listen and they try to understand. it's why i scream about the menelaiad so much because john barth fills that gap. in a very beautiful and very human way. but he is a reception piece, so i respect not wanting to squeeze him into the narrative.

but this is just my thoughts. and i'm just a menelaus simp on tumblr so like.
